Site arrangement

Nowadays, with a great desire, you can produce anything, with my own hands. There are plenty of sites necessary information, construction market saturated with a variety of tools and fixtures, the choice of material is also very wide. In addition, the cost of a hand-made product will be several times less than the market value.

It will not be difficult to make a door with your own hands, and we will try to help you with this with the help of some rules and recommendations. The first thing to decide is: the type of door, the material used and the availability of the necessary tools.

Advantages and disadvantages

Modern market building materials replete with a variety of products offered, including doors: entrance, interior, balcony, etc. For the production of doors, various modern materials are used.

Although metal doors are no less popular, they still remain the most popular. natural wood or its varieties. Wooden door leafs are used in residential, industrial, office, etc.

Door leafs made of wood undoubtedly have a lot of advantages, including:

  • high sound and heat insulation,
  • frost resistance and increased strength,
  • low expansion rate due to the influence of temperatures,
  • long service life provided good quality products,
  • environmental friendliness, and, consequently, harmlessness to health,
  • beautiful appearance and the ability to fit into any interior style.

However, there are also disadvantages of using wood in the production of doors:

  • increased hygroscopic properties, i.e. wood without pre-treatment absorbs moisture quite well, as a result of which this negatively affects the physical and mechanical characteristics of the product,
  • not the ideality of the raw materials used, since low-quality wood may have crevices, knots or resin pockets,
  • flammability and fire hazard of the material.

The main reasons for the appearance of deficiencies are poor quality materials and non-observance of the technology for the production of blanks. To make the imperfections less pronounced, the wood material should be thoroughly dried, steamed and treated with special impregnating agents.

Variety of door designs

During the period of knowledge of the process of self-construction of doors, one should consider some structural nuances of various door options and the rules for their production:

Entrance doors

In the manufacture of large door panels, for example, entrance doors, planed or tongue-and-groove boards are used, which are combined into one piece with diagonal or transverse lintels to securely strengthen the entire structure.

As the raw material used, preference should be given to wood with a dense structure and a textured cut image. For example, cedar, oak or larch.

To make and install a door to a room with high humidity(bath, steam room, etc.) it is possible to use less valuable breeds trees, such as pine or linden, but they must be treated with water-repellent agents and antiseptics.

Paneled doors

The paneled version of the door is produced by gluing lamellas from wooden beams and boards, which are then covered with veneer. As a result, the product has a neat appearance. The master can also show imagination and produce panels different configuration, or make beautiful glass inserts.

In high-quality production of paneled panels, it is very difficult to distinguish them from solid wood. Glued beams are used for the device of cross-sections. To fasten parts, spikes or dowels are used.

As interior doors, you can use hand-made panel doors.

Panel doors

Panel doors are considered the most economical, due to the use of chipboard, which is covered with laminate or veneer. The design consists of wooden frame and a shield made of MDF, chipboard, etc. In addition, the following types of panel door devices are distinguished:

  • One-piece structure filled with timber (edged or unedged), which is sufficiently firmly fastened.
  • The door, inside is hollow, consisting of wooden cross-sections along the panels and beams on the sides. Outside, the structure is finished with clapboard or fiberboard. The inner part may contain longitudinal and transverse bars.
  • Doors related to small-hollow doors are different in terms of internal occupancy.

If you use alder or linden plywood 4-8 mm thick when covering a panel door, the product will become much better, since the material resists deformation and is easy to decorate.

Features of the choice of material

When choosing a material, you should pay attention to the presence of:

  • knots, as their presence should be minimized,
  • humidity, no more than 15%. Well-dried material is considered ideal, which guarantees the quality of the future product,
  • flat board surface. It is checked for tightness by placing the boards close to each other,
  • certain thickness. For massive doors about 5 cm, for internal doors - 2.5 cm.

The types of wood used may vary. For front doors, noble oak or beech woods are used. For interior spaces- pine. The presence of resin provides protection against mold and mildew.

When making doors in a private house or in the country with your own hands, you can use the material at hand left over from the demolition of a wooden building, etc. But before using, be sure to check them for any damage.

Making a door with your own hands

The process of making a door with your own hands is quite simple. It is based on the reliable construction of a shield made of wooden planks. Appearance can be varied, depending on the purpose of the room and the interior itself.

For manufacturing, you will need fixtures and tools: a workbench, a milling cutter, a hacksaw, a planer, a set of chisels, a regular hammer, a mallet, a level, a simple pencil, measuring devices, a grinder or sandpaper, a screwdriver.

As well as materials and parts for fastening: sheet pile wooden planks, a set of self-tapping screws, glue for carpentry.

The wood must be well dried at +25 degrees (and not more than +50 degrees in drying chamber) for almost two months in a well-ventilated area. In order for the moisture to leave better, the boards must be shifted with spacers each separately. Otherwise, mold may appear and ruin your plan.

Making a door step by step using a tongue and groove board:

  • Marking and sawing the material in accordance with the required dimensions.
  • Its layout on the layout table with the arrangement of the pattern of tree rings in one direction.
  • Assembling the boards into a canvas and fastening them in a tenon-groove method for greater strength, you can use glue for carpentry.
  • Spike cut along the edge of the shield and end processing.
  • Clamping the canvas with clamps and drying it on the surface of the table.
  • After drying, milling and grinding.
  • In the case of strengthening the structure, the multi-layer boards are used by gluing them and compressing them with clamps. As a result, the product is massive and heavy.
  • Fixing the canvas with strapping using crossbars. To do this, it is worth preparing boards along the width of the canvas, trapezoidal in shape. Make markings for the crossbars. Make a mark of the depth and directly the grooves themselves. Lubricate them with glue and insert the crossbars with a mallet.

Door processing and decoration

Processing the canvas with sandpaper or a grinder.

Impregnation of the canvas antiseptic. After applying the product, dry the surface. Repeat the procedure twice. An antiseptic will provide protection against fungus, mold and microorganisms.

Putty canvas or primer, which will hide the bumps. The procedure is repeated similarly to the previous one.

At the end of the process, doors are painted using stain, varnish or paint. In one layer or several depending on the intensity of the desired color. At the same time, do not forget to dry the layers for almost 4 hours each. On the stain, you can apply varnish in two layers.

Canvas installation

  • Alignment of the opening by level.
  • Gathering the door frame in size and checking it for level. Checking the rigidity and stability of the structure.
  • Trying on the canvas and adjusting the dimensions if necessary.
  • Fixing the structure with self-tapping screws, the heads of which must be closed with appropriate plugs.
  • Crack sealing mounting foam and cash collection.
  • Preparing the canvas: installing the handle, hinges and lock. Marking the location of the loops.
  • Marking the location of the loops on the box and the opening for the latch. Groove preparation.
  • Canopy on hinges and door adjustment. Fixing the latch plate.

As you can see, the process is completely simple, it is enough to act calmly and carefully, and you will not encounter the problem that your door does not close. Keep it up and you will succeed! Otherwise, you can trust the professionals!

DIY door photo

Often people cannot choose the right door from the available range. Some buy what they have, while others decide to do everything themselves. To make wooden doors with your own hands, you will need some special woodworking equipment, tools and, of course, it is better to have carpentry skills. But still, if everything is not available, then along the way you can improvise and achieve necessary success. In addition, readers will learn how to choose and dry boards for a future door.

door material

Usually, pine is used for the manufacture of wooden doors, less often - spruce. It is bad to use it for products, because there are a lot of branches in its wood, which make work much more difficult. In addition, the fiber structure is inhomogeneous and often delaminates. For these reasons, the optimal type of wood to make wooden doors with your own hands is pine.

Choosing boards

To make the door beautiful and even, you need to carefully choose the boards. They must be without flaws, not have large branches, and also so that the structure of the fibers itself is even. If blue is visible on the surface, this means that the storage technology was violated and the material began to rot. It is better not to use such wood, because it will begin to rot in the future.

Drying purchased boards

In any case, to be completely sure of the material, it must be dried. Even if it looks ready for use, it is better to play it safe before making wooden doors with your own hands. Each board must be laid on spacers that will not allow the tree to come into contact with each other. This is necessary so that the moisture contained inside the fibers can freely exit. If this is not done, mold will form, which will spoil the material.

The place where the wood will be dried must be well ventilated and, preferably, the temperature should be above 25 °C. This process takes from one to two months.

The tree can be dried even faster by placing it in a special chamber for this. It creates a temperature of not more than 50 ° C. If you make it higher, then the resin can leak out, and it holds the fibers together. To made wooden Entrance door with their own hands was durable and served for a long time, do not rush in this process.

The drying chamber can be made in the garage, booth required size, or car body. The boards are laid, as in the case of drying in the open air, alternating them with spacers.

Materials and tools for creating a door

  • boards;
  • insulation;
  • glue - carpentry;
  • roulette;
  • level;
  • plane;
  • chisel;
  • drill;
  • milling cutter;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • loops;
  • a hammer;
  • nails;
  • sandpaper.

A good one with your own hands should qualitatively protect the home not only from intruders, but also from the cold, as well as noise. Therefore, one side is made absolutely even and the fiberboard is pasted over, on which the insulation is then placed.

On the inside, we set the dimensions of the door itself. In addition, you need to decide on the gaps and the lower clearance. When everything is ready, you can cut a rectangle from the fiberboard sheet, which will exactly repeat the shape and size of the door. It is worth paying special attention to marking and cutting corners. They should all be 90°.

So, we cut two boards, making them 5 cm thick and 11 cm wide. We will create wooden doors with our own hands for standard box 200 * 90 cm. In order for the canvas not to rub against the surface, and also to open and close freely, you need to slightly reduce its dimensions. Therefore, the doors will be 192 * 82.

Before designing and assembling the door, check the geometry of the frame so that its corners are clearly 90°. For entrance doors, five panels are most often made. This solution allows them to be made from whole pieces of material. So, you need to trim two boards 192 cm long, and four 72 cm each, this is taking into account 5 cm studs on each side.

It is better to place the panels symmetrically, but if you want to achieve an asymmetric shape, you can fix them as needed, this will not affect the functionality of the structure. It is worth remembering the grooves of 5 cm.

When everything is ready, the wooden front door is assembled with your own hands and everything is checked to see if everything is smooth. At the same time, they make sure that there are no gaps in the grooves, and at the same time, the spike enters freely. If everything is fine, then the door is dismantled, and then assembled back, but with glue. Since this is an entrance door, it will be affected by external environment. For this reason, it is better to strengthen the structure with dowels. They are 1 cm wide. Then we take a drill of the same diameter, and drill holes for them at the joints. They must go through the spike. After that, the dowels are coated with glue and driven in.

When everything is dry, you can trim the joints and grind off the protruding parts of the dowels so that the surface is absolutely smooth.

Choosing grooves

Now, to make a wooden door with your own hands, you have to work with a cutter. We put on the so-called window cutter. She needs to select the material for half the thickness of the web, to install panels in these grooves. The corners will be rounded, so they will need to be finished with a chisel.

Making panels

They are machined from solid parts of wood, they must fit snugly into the grooves without gaps. One side of the panel is made flat, and on the other side you can even cut out a pattern, everything is at the discretion of the master. Further, this part of the door is sanded for easier collection of all the components of the leaf. The panels must be flush with the surface. It is impossible for any part of them to protrude, this can subsequently lead to deformation of the fiberboard sheet, with which the door will be upholstered.

When everything fits perfectly, you can fasten the panels with self-tapping screws. They need to be screwed in at an angle from the side where the fiberboard will be. And, of course, not a single self-tapping screw should come out on the front. Therefore, their size must be carefully selected. Now it remains to nail a sheet of fiberboard and you can cover it with stain or varnish, whoever wants it. It describes in detail the manufacture of wooden doors with your own hands, step by step instructions.

Wooden door installation

Initially, they decide how many hinges the door will be attached to. Then they carefully mark out so that everything fits together, and with the help of self-tapping screws they fix the loops on the canvas and the box. Then to check how it opens and closes. If everything is done correctly, then, being fully open, the door will be in the same position as it was left. If there is the slightest distortion, then it will open or close. Adjusting and installing wooden doors with your own hands can be a painstaking process, but it must be done perfectly, because it depends comfortable accommodation in the house.

Wooden door insulation

So that external noise does not disturb, and the cold cannot pass through the canvas, it must be insulated. After all, if you cover protective layer only a wooden door, it will perform its functions well only in the warm season. And the sounds of the street will pass more. To improve the door, it is worth insulating it.

markup

To insulate a wooden door with your own hands, you need to paste over with foam rubber that half of it, which is covered with fiberboard. This should be done in such a way as to leave one centimeter of space free of insulation around the entire edge of the canvas. Subsequently, we will nail external material onto it. In the event that, nevertheless, the foam rubber crawled out of the frame, it must be cut with a sharp knife.

Upholstery material can be different, usually leatherette is chosen, less often fabric. To do everything qualitatively, it is better to use the services of an assistant. So the insulation of a wooden door with your own hands will be much faster and, most importantly, better. It is necessary to fix the material with the help of a centimeter wide area, which we did not seal with foam rubber. When the end is fixed, the material is leveled, and then work continues. The tension must be uniform to avoid creases.

When one part is done, go to the one opposite. To do this, one worker pulls the material, and the other fixes it with the same stapler. When the work is done, rollers must be nailed along the perimeter of the canvas, which will prevent cold air and extraneous sounds from outside from entering the dwelling.

We make rollers for the door

From the material with which the door is upholstered, the rollers are rolled up, they should be about a centimeter thick. Then they are nailed along the edges of the door with construction nails.

It is better to buy more upholstery material, because it will stretch over the foam rubber. And also it will be necessary to make rollers from it, so you need to carefully calculate everything.

Now everything related to the question of how to make wooden doors with your own hands, drawings, diagrams and subtleties in work, we have considered. From the images it is easy to understand the whole principle of what parts the canvas consists of. It is not necessary to make a door of the same dimensions as in the drawings, because the openings and the box are different. However, it will be much easier to create your own project based on them.

loops

In order for the door to serve for a long time, you need to choose the appropriate hinges on which it will be attached. There are many types of them, but the most common are hemispherical. Their design is simple, and if necessary, the owner can easily remove the door by lifting it up in the open position.

You can also hang the canvas using hinged loops. They are similar to the first, only the axis in them is unscrewed. Such a door cannot simply be lifted to remove.

Doors are made from boards furniture panels or bars according to previously prepared drawings. To understand what and how wooden doors are made of, let's get acquainted with their varieties.

Types of doors by design

The box from the array has the following advantages:

In the same time wooden canvas has the following features:

  • untreated raw materials quickly absorb moisture;
  • the presence of cracks and knots;
  • combustibility.

To reduce absorption, the board is dried, treated with hot steam and impregnations..

massive doors

Before manufacturing wooden doors, it is recommended to determine the features of the production process. The dacha can be protected from robbers by a massive canvas, for the manufacture of which thick tongue-and-groove or planed boards are used. The resulting structure is reinforced with horizontal or inclined lintels.

For the manufacture of massive door use dense tree

For the manufacture of a massive entrance door, cedar, larch or oak are used. Such wood is characterized by a dense structure and textured pattern.

If the project suburban area includes a bath, then linden, pine are used to equip the opening. The bath should be operated after wood treatment with an antiseptic.

Paneled doors

For the manufacture of paneled canvas, boards and beams obtained by gluing lamellas are used. Then the workpiece is covered with veneer. Before building a canvas, a drawing is prepared. It indicates the configuration of the panels. It can be the same or different. Instead of wooden elements glass can be used.

Panel doors are most often installed indoors.

To equip the vertical and transverse elements, you will need to glue the timber. Used to make canvas batten appropriate thickness. Spikes are used to fix individual elements.

Door Assembly Diagram

If a panel is used to make the canvas, you need to consider:

  • the reliability of the product is directly affected by the number of transverse;
  • a home-made box is formed from a bar, and a rail or plastic is used to make a panel;
  • bead is used to fix the panels.

Since the panel door has a small thickness, it is considered the best option to equip the interior doorway.

Panel doors

The shield box is made of fiberboard, veneer or laminate. The frame is assembled from boards. Used as a shield fiberboard sheets, MDF or chipboard.

Shield door design

The canvases under consideration are classified into the following types:

  • solid - filled with bars fastened together;
  • hollow - made from side and transverse bars. Lining is used for sheathing;
  • small-hollow - have different filling.

To independently create a high-quality canvas, the frame is pre-coated with plywood. The material is laid in 2 layers. The size of 1 layer is 24 mm. This technology prevents deformation of the coating.

Tools for the job

From the tools you will need:

  • to create grooves and holes, you need a milling cutter;
  • hacksaw;
  • to grind the ends of the doors, you need a planer;
  • chisels;
  • a hammer;
  • screwdriver

Standard set door making tools

To assemble the doors, you will need the following materials:

  • sheet pile boards;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • glue.

The acquired wood is additionally dried. The boards are laid so that they do not touch each other.

Choice of lumber

Before assembling the canvas, it is compiled individual plan upcoming work. Special attention given to the choice of boards. The following criteria are taken into account:

  • financial opportunities;
  • acquisition of “commercial wood;
  • residual moisture - 15%;
  • checking the evenness of the material;
  • board thickness - 25-50 mm;
  • array is polished.

Step by step instructions for making

Any step-by-step plan for the manufacture of the door provides for the assembly of the shield. If it is planned to install the canvas in the bath, then simple assembly shield. To fix the boards, transverse and longitudinal elements are used. The warm box for the house is made taking into account aesthetics. The assembled shield is polished.

Production of solid wood doors

AT step by step plan blade assembly includes the correct choice of consumables. To make a shield, you will need grooved boards with a thickness of more than 25 mm. Then consumable cut into pieces.

Tongue-and-groove boards must be even and without grooves on the front sides

When assembling the shield, it is recommended to take into account the direction of the annual rings. To connect the tongue-and-groove boards, a tongue-and-groove lock and wood glue are used. If the consumable is non-groove boards, then they are assembled with glue.

Work done on the surface large area. The assembled coating is pressed with clamps. If the shield is dry, it is processed with a milling cutter. In order to have good sound insulation, it is recommended to assemble a shield from several layers of boards. The resulting structure is clamped with clamps.

Traditional ways of dressing boards in solid wood doors

For strapping, crossbars are used, installed at the top, in the middle and at the bottom of the cover. On the canvas, markings are made for the grooves. The recesses to be made should be ½ the thickness of the consumable.

Assembly diagram

Holes are cut using a router. It is more difficult to cut grooves by hand. This will require a chisel. A rubber mallet is used to insert the cross member. If it is planned to apply a drawing to the resulting shield, its contour is first outlined with a pencil according to the template. A cutter is used for cutting.

Cutouts are milled according to a drawing previously applied with a pencil.

Then the canvas is painted with pre-treatment with an antiseptic. On the canvas and the box make markings for mounting loops. The same way markings are made for the handle and lock. The last stage is the canopy of the canvas in the opening.

Treatment with antiseptic and varnish

Panel door manufacturing

The instruction for the manufacture of a thyroid sheet allows the use of finely filled boards. Experts distinguish 3 methods of assembling such a design:

  • pre-assembly of the frame with subsequent filling of its internal space. Using this technology, you can create a solid or finely filled shield;
  • separate production of the shield with its subsequent fixation in the frame. The last stage is sheathing with finishing material;
  • the manufactured shield is mounted in a frame, lined.

To assemble the canvas according to the first method, primary strapping is carried out. She will determine the size of the future door. For the construction, a bar with a section of 30 × 120 mm is used. Consumables are cut according to the dimensions of the future structure.

The next step is to select the type of connection in the corners. Experts advise using the "half-tree" method. Accurate marking of future grooves - milestone shield assembly.

Scheme of connection of frame elements

All grooves are coated with glue. The connection of the beam is carried out on a flat, but large area. If the glue is dry, the joints are fixed with dowels. For this, through holes with a diameter of 8-10 mm are made..

For facing the frame, plywood or fiberboard is used. Marking is carried out, the frame is removed. The frame returns to its original place. She needs to be pressed facing material treated with glue.

For cladding, plywood or fiberboard is used

To fill in inner space, MDF is used. It is glued with bottom sheet finishing material. But first, the glue must dry well. In parallel, it is recommended to prepare consumables for the outer lining of the canvas.

Internal filling gives the canvas rigidity

If you need to glue 2 sheets, then the first sheet is fiberboard, and the second is laminated material or SHF. The resulting design is sent under the press.

You can sheathe the door with natural wooden slats. They are fixed to the frame. The holes made are filled with a mixture of glue and sawdust. If the surface is dry, it is treated sandpaper. All corners and ends are machined with a cutter. In the finished door leaf and,. The door is mounted in an appropriate box.

A frame door is made using a similar technique - the interior space is additionally reinforced with bars. But before starting work, accurate calculations drawing is being prepared.

Panel door manufacturing

To make a paneled door, you will need special carpentry tools and experience. The structural elements are made of plywood, massive boards. A drawing is preliminarily prepared, on which 4 panels are marked.

The frame is made from timber. It is pre-treated with a cutter. Then a groove is made on one side of it. Spikes are cut out on the crossbars, and the edges are processed with a milling cutter. Panels and mullions are inserted into the grooves.

The end part of the coating, which will go to the end of the canvas, must be even. Slots are made in the vertical elements to assemble the structure.

To make panels, plywood or chipboard is used. Some panel elements are replaced with glass. In this case, glazing beads are additionally used. Panels with a flat plane are mounted and framed with a glazing bead.

Otherwise, the panels are processed by a milling cutter. In this way, a relief configuration is created. Plywood is used to make panels. Each element of the future canvas is treated with an antiseptic and dried.

All parts are assembled into a single structure on a flat surface, and each spike is coated with special glue. Step by step assembly doors:

  • gluing the crossbars into the grooves of the vertical bars;
  • installation of mullions;
  • installation of the remaining panels;
  • gluing a vertical bar;
  • fixing glazing beads for finishing.

To install the spikes in the grooves, a rubberized hammer is used. The canvas is lined from the sides. Used to check angles building corner. The cover is compressed with clamps.

Markings are made on the canvas for installing hinges and handles with a lock. Installation of fittings is carried out after completion of finishing work. For finishing applied acrylic paint or . To get a dark finish, stain is used.

Warming and soundproofing

door insulation scheme

Painting

At the next stage, processing and decoration of the manufactured structure is carried out. In this case, it is recommended to adhere to the following plan:

  • processing the coating with sandpaper or a grinding machine;
  • impregnation of wood with an antiseptic. The first layer should dry well. Then the processing is repeated;
  • the canvas is covered with a special putty, which can be replaced with a primer. In this case, the canvas is processed 2 times. But each applied layer must dry well. This will take about 2 days;
  • for finishing coatings apply paint, varnish, stain. The stain must be applied over the primer. Taking into account the desired shade, the appropriate number of layers of stain is applied. It will take 4 hours for each layer to dry. To fix the result, the stain is covered with two layers of varnish.

For finishing the door, paint, varnish, stain are used

A well-made plywood door can be installed between rooms in an apartment or house, and at the entrance to a dwelling. To produce such a design with minimal financial costs quite real by hand. The technology of the process is relatively simple.

Any home craftsman is able to make a door with his own hands from plywood sheets. To do this, he needs to first decide on the type of structure that he plans to create. There are two options here. You can build a single-layer or frame structure. Single-layer doors are made from a single sheet of plywood, which is reinforced along the entire contour (and always on both sides) with wooden slats. Visually similar products are ordinary panel structures produced in the factory.

Plywood for making doors

Home-made single-layer doors are characterized by a small amount of heat and sound insulation. For this reason, they can only be used as interior structures.

Frame doors have more high level noise and heat protection. They are made in the form of structures sheathed with plywood on both sides. Moreover, stiffeners or a layer of insulation are placed between the sheets of wood material. Due to this, frame doors can be installed at the entrance to the house or to any outbuilding. Frame structures must be made of moisture-resistant plywood sheets. It is optimal to use materials marked with FSF. It is also allowed to use FC plywood, which is cheaper. Its resistance to moisture can be increased by impregnating the material with drying oil or PVA glue.

Having decided which door you will make, proceed to the drafting of the project. To do this, it is necessary to measure the parameters of the existing door frame and on their basis draw up a drawing of the future design. At this stage, you need to remember an important thing. The geometric parameters of the product being created are always taken a couple of centimeters. smaller sizes boxes. If this requirement is not observed, the doors will not close tightly after installation.

Door opening measurement

Now you can buy materials. You will need planks of wood 11-15 cm wide and plywood sheets directly, as well as insulation (if you will be making doors frame type from plywood with their own hands). Professionals recommend using as thermal insulation material expanded polystyrene or inexpensive in cost. It is advisable to take plywood sheets only of the first grade. Especially for cases where finished structure you plan to cover with a colorless varnish. It is allowed to use second-class material, but be prepared that the appearance of the door will not be the most attractive.

All construction work door structure done with simple tools. Need to stock up electric drill, sandpaper, a hacksaw (it is better, of course, to use a jigsaw, with it the process of cutting and fitting wood is much faster), a pencil, a screwdriver, a tape measure, wood glue, a screwdriver. It is also advisable to prepare an electric milling cutter. It allows you to make a nest for the lock in the door with the highest quality, as well as cut grooves and spikes for assembly into a single solid construction frame being created.

We make a single-layer product - subtleties for craftsmen

Interior plywood doors are made according to a simple scheme. It is listed below:

  1. Take a sheet of plywood 1–1.2 cm thick. Cut it according to the parameters of the door.
  2. Attach the slats around the perimeter of the sheet with wood glue or. Instead of rails, it is also allowed to use planks that are made of plywood.
  3. Make jumpers on one side of the structure. Add additional rails to the canvas to increase the strength of the door, and fasten them with furniture tongues or by means of a tongue-and-groove connection. Do the same with the second side of a single-layer product.
  4. With a milling cutter (if not, with a chisel), you make holes for installing door fittings (handles and locks).
  5. It is desirable to smooth out the transitions from planks to plywood by installing spacers (profiled). Then appearance products will be much more attractive.
  6. Grind the door made, putty it, paint it in desired color or varnished.

As you can see, everything is quite simple. With such a job purposeful House master able to cope in just a few hours (maximum per day). With a frame door, you will have to suffer longer. But the reliability finished product will be much higher.

Constructions from two plywood sheets are made longer. First you need to make the frame itself. It is made from wood bars and planks. You should end up with a solid frame with enough lintels. They are connected, as in the case of single-layer products, with wood glue or through a groove / spike. If the door will be used as an entrance door, it is advisable to take thicker planks and bars, fastening them into one structure with self-tapping screws and metal corners.

Plywood for frame door

After that, cut sheets of plywood according to the parameters of the canvas, fix one of them on the made skeleton with self-tapping screws. The next step is laying the insulation. Now you can attach the second plywood sheet and proceed to install the lock on the door. With a milling cutter (chisel), you hollow out holes for the handles and the locking mechanism itself. The door, in principle, is ready. Sand it, treat the self-tapping screws with putty, ennoble the structure with varnish and you can put it at the entrance to your house.

With patience and a great desire, you can easily make a plywood door yourself. The main thing is not to rush, to perform each operation carefully and responsibly. And then you will absolutely get a strong and beautiful door, which differs (and not for the worse) from standard (and, note, expensive) factory designs.

Starting repairs in the apartment, I want to not only update the wallpaper on the walls, but also completely change the interior of the rooms. Therefore, there is often a desire to change all the doors that are in the house. And put something unusual, comfortable and beautiful. Many go to the store and buy finished doors, but the most interesting thing is to make them with your own hands. Any home master will be able to engage in self-production, for this you need to decide on their design, select the material and purchase the necessary tools.

How to correctly calculate doors

All work on self-production begins with the implementation of calculations. First you need to freeze doorway in which the doors will be installed. The measurements of the opening are carried out sequentially:

Exist standard sizes door panels: 60, 70, 80, 90 cm wide and up to 2 m high.

But you can make your own door of an individual size if the opening or method of opening allows it: sliding or barn doors do not depend on the size of the opening, as they are located behind it.

Sliding doors are easy to use: they do not take up space when opened

When calculating the box, you need to decide whether to make a threshold or not. Typically, thresholds are installed in the bathroom and kitchen, but it all depends on the preferences of the owner. It is also predetermined with the design of the door - on one or both sides - the number of platbands depends on this, if the door is conceived with inserts.

The more inserts made of glass or other materials in the door, the more platbands will be required to secure them.

In addition, it takes into account required amount handles, hinges or other fasteners based on the opening design, as well as locking and fixing devices, if necessary.

Required Tools

For self-manufacturing doors you will need the following tools:

If there is a threshold, then the canvas is made on all sides by 2–3 mm less than the door frame, and if it is absent, a gap of 5–10 mm is left at the bottom so that the floor covering is not damaged when the doors are opened.

Material selection

It is important to decide: what to make the door from and what material to use for exterior decoration.

Basis for interior door may include the following materials:

  • natural wood - it is easy to work with it, the doors are strong, beautiful and durable. Disadvantages: heavy doors, wood absorbs moisture. Often only a frame is made of wood, and other materials are used for cladding;
  • MDF-plate - the door can consist entirely of plates, but if it is sheathed along the frame, then corrugated cardboard or other filler is placed inside. It's over cheap material, not afraid of moisture;
  • Chipboard - consists of pressed chips glued together with synthetic resins;
  • plastic, glass, aluminum or stainless steel- are usually used in production, and at home it is difficult to make a door out of them.

Most often, do-it-yourself interior doors are made of wood, so you need to determine which wood is better to choose. Consider different breeds:

  • pine - easy to process, but eventually dries out; differs in low cost;
  • alder - more porous and soft wood, easy to process, but unstable to decay;
  • birch - dense and viscous wood with a beautiful structure, but short-lived;
  • oak - durable and resistant to mechanical damage, but difficult to work with, as it cracks along the fibers;
  • beech - durable, but afraid of changes in temperature and humidity;
  • larch - with a beautiful structure, easy to process, durable;
  • walnut - with a homogeneous structure, strong and durable;
  • maple - resistant to moisture, easy to process and polish.

For decorative cladding door leaf and boxes are used such materials:

The choice of materials depends on the preferences of the owners and the design of the doors.

How to make a door with your own hands

Usually swing doors are made with their own hands, so let's consider the manufacturing sequence using their example. For self-manufacturing of interior doors you will need:

  • board: 40 mm thick and 100 mm wide, no more than 6 m;
  • Chipboard: will be used to insert inside the door leaf. Instead, you can take, for example, glass;
  • self-tapping screws (or wooden confirmation pins), glue, varnish or paint.

The manufacturing technology of such a door is simple. The work is carried out in several stages:

  1. Board preparation. By exact dimensions the board is cut into 4 parts: the top, bottom and sides of the door leaf. The grinder's grinding disc polishes wide surfaces. Ends can not be processed.

    Boards are first cut to size and then sanded.

  2. Milling. The ends of the boards are rounded with a manual milling cutter. At one end, a groove is made for installing chipboard. The groove must match the thickness of this sheet. It is usually made 16 mm wide and 15–20 mm deep.

    A manual router is used for processing the ends of boards and cutting grooves

  3. End trimming. The ends of the boards are cut at an angle of 45 degrees with a circular or hand saw. At the extreme points of the racks, the length should be equal to the height of the door leaf, and at the extreme points of the upper and lower boards, its width.

    It is necessary to cut the boards at an angle of 45 degrees so that the parts of the door leaf are connected to each other evenly, without gaps.

  4. Open the chipboard. Sheet width calculation: subtract the width of two racks from the width of the door leaf and add the depth of two grooves. The sheet length is calculated in the same way. For a door 80 × 200 cm, it turns out - width: 800–100x2 + 20x2 = 640 mm, length: 2000–150x2 + 2x20 = 1740 mm.

    You can cut chipboard yourself or order a finished sheet according to your size

  5. Pre-assembly. Hitting with a rubber mallet, chipboard sheet neatly put on boards. The tightness of the fasteners is checked. Then the boards are removed, holes for self-tapping screws are drilled in them at the corners. But it is possible to mount such a door on wooden confirmation pins.
  6. Insert of locks, latches and canopies. It is better to put them on the disassembled door, so as not to accidentally damage the insert grooves by pressing.

    It is better to mount the hinges, handle and lock on the door in a disassembled state so as not to damage the insert

  7. Painting and assembly. After painting and varnishing the boards, the door leaf is reassembled and fixed. The boards are fixed with grooves on the chipboard. If wooden pins are used instead of self-tapping screws, then they are lubricated with glue and inserted into the prepared holes.

An important step is decorating the door. If veneer or laminate coating is chosen instead of painting, then it is better to entrust this process to specialists.

Do-it-yourself door to the steam room

For a steam room, you can independently make a door from solid wood. The work is performed in the following sequence:

  1. Open the boards. You will need tongue-and-groove boards and timber 30 mm thick. To calculate the number of boards, you need to know their dimensions and the size of the door leaf. If the door is 2 m high, then the boards are sawn to a length: 2000–2x30 = 1940 mm.
  2. Assembly of boards. The boards are laid out in a row, leveled and glued together with furniture glue. They are tightly knocked out with a mallet and compressed with clamps until the glue dries.

    The boards are connected using grooves that are smeared with glue.

  3. Preparation and fixation of the beam. A timber sawn into two long and two short blanks is attached to the screws along the perimeter of the canvas.
  4. Door reinforcement. To reinforce the structure, two transverse strips are installed on top of the boards.

    To strengthen the door leaf, transverse strips are installed: they are mounted on self-tapping screws or glue

  5. Accessories. Hinges and handles are attached. For a couple are selected wooden handles because the metal ones get very hot.
  6. Treatment. Transparent compositions of deep impregnation are used, which reliably protect the tree and do not emit harmful substances.

    It is dangerous to use varnish or paint to cover the doors of the steam room

Main node sliding door- sliding mechanism, it can be purchased at any hardware store. You will also need special fittings for sliding doors. The design consists of an upper guide or is complemented by a lower one.

Sliding doors save space

The length of the guide bar must be twice the width of the door frame, otherwise the door will not fully open.

The main thing for a sliding door is the small weight of the door leaf, if it is attached only to the upper rail.

Manufacturing process:

  1. Creation of a door leaf. It is made of solid wood with inserts, but in a lightweight version so that the weight of the door does not disrupt the operation of the moving mechanism.
  2. Create a groove for the guide. A groove is made at the bottom end of the door for the bottom rail. It is cut in the center of the end of the door leaf to a depth of 3 mm.
  3. Rollers are screwed to the upper end of the web.

    The lower latch prevents the door from popping out of the guide

  4. Hardware installation. The lock is cut in and handles are placed.
  5. Mounting the guide profile. A guide is horizontally attached to the wall above the doorway. On the one hand, it should protrude by 5 cm, and on the other, by the width of the canvas.

    The top guide is installed horizontally: the accuracy is checked by the building level

  6. Stop fastening. A lower guide or stop is attached to the floor, along which the door will ride.
  7. Door installation. The door rollers are inserted into the upper guide and closed with stops, and the door is put on the lower stop with a cut groove.

The door-pencil case is similar in design to a sliding or sliding option. Its difference is that the door leaf is hidden in the wall.

If the wall is non-bearing, then it is dismantled, and in this place they make a three-dimensional pencil case, in which the door leaf is hidden.

The door leaf is hidden in the wall - it is convenient in small apartments

Stages of creating a door-pencil case:

double door

The design of a double-leaf door is no different from a single-leaf door. Only its overall size is larger, and the lock connects the sashes to each other.

These are two canvases installed in a common door frame. Double-leaf doors also open in different ways: as swing, sliding-retractable, pendulum or accordion.

A double-leaf plastic accordion door is convenient for the kitchen: it is rarely used, so it will last a long time

The width of a double-leaf door is usually in the range of 130–190 cm, which allows you to make wide openings.

The double door is perfect for Big hall and convenient for receiving guests

Features and installation sequence of a double-leaf door:

  1. The choice of sashes - wooden, plastic, glass, metal and other canvases are used for this design. You can buy them ready-made or make your own. The main condition is to determine the size of the door frame and divide it in half (or into 4 parts if the door is folding).

    A four-panel bi-folding folding door is the perfect complement to a country-style interior.

  2. If the door is locked classical style execution on it is set decorative element covering the gap between the canvases.

    Sliding doors are made without a lock, so they do not need additional element covering the central gap

  3. Installation - mounting the door frame and hanging the canvases is no different from a single-leaf design. But it is desirable to install a double door with a partner.
  4. Mounting of fittings - tie-in of locks and handles is carried out after hanging and adjusting the doors.

barn door

Barn doors help to decorate the room antique, easy to use.

The barn door is easy to install, takes up little space and is easy to operate.

They got their name because they used to be similar sliding structures were used on barns and wagons with grain. Modern door leafs are made in different styles.

Such doors are mounted both on sliding mechanisms, and on rails or butterflies.

Fasteners for the barn door are made in different stylistic designs so that you can choose them for your interior style

The barn door is beautiful in any design.

Transparent double-leaf barn door looks weightless and fills the apartment with light

Sliding barn doors have gained their popularity due to the following advantages:

  • take care of the place: the canvas goes to the side along the wall;
  • beautiful: often the barn door is the main element of the interior;
  • fashionable: moving doors are placed in modern dwellings;
  • ample opportunities: barn mounts are able to withstand a lot of weight; you can expand the doorway, increasing the open space; or separate the closet from the room with doors. And in studio apartments, such a door will also serve as a mobile partition.

It is good to use a barn door with translucent canvases as cabinet doors or a built-in dressing room.

It is easiest to make a barn door with your own hands from solid wood. The manufacturing process will be the same as for the assembly of the door for the steam room. But the difference is that the room door can be varnished or painted.

The barn door can be painted to match the color of the walls, and it will create a calm atmosphere in the home.

The roto-door combines a hinged and sliding design.

It opens both in one and in the other direction. Due to the fact that after plowing it also shifts from the center, it saves effective area rooms.

The roto-door is convenient in the layout of small apartments and walk-through adjacent rooms

For a roto door, you can make your own door leaf or buy a ready-made one. Since there is a complex opening mechanism here, you will have to purchase it in the store, you will not be able to do it yourself.

The roto-door combines a sliding and hinged design, which allows you to open it and move it towards the door jamb

Disadvantages of revolving doors: high cost, the opening mechanism does not withstand heavy weight. Therefore, the door is used for beauty and does not carry protective functions.

A large roto door is made of plastic so that the opening mechanism does not deform under weight

The revolving door is installed by professionals, but you can install it yourself if you follow the recommendations for the process. Roto doors are usually purchased at the time of the event. overhaul, since for them it is necessary to form a doorway. During the installation of a revolving door, the following nuances must be taken into account:

  1. Measurement accuracy. The design between the box and the canvas should have a gap of no more than 5 mm, so it is important to take measurements correctly.
  2. Correct installation. During the installation of the door frame, it is necessary to strictly observe the level of verticality and horizontality, otherwise the mechanism will jam, the door will not move well.
  3. Partition. Its thickness along the entire length must be the same, otherwise the operation of the door will be impaired.
  4. Adjustment. An important process: it is carried out in all directions of movement of the door leaf. After adjustment, it should move easily and close tightly.

If you decide to install a roto-door yourself, you must follow the technology for performing work, but the assembly rotary mechanism it is better to entrust the experts.
