See how to make a pergola out of old doors. From them you can make a gazebo, a washbasin, a tool shed, and a greenhouse will turn out of the windows.

The content of the article:

The new summer season has begun. Lovers of work and relaxation fresh air yearned for their hacienda for the winter, they are looking for new ideas for inspiration, they embody them with pleasure. In order to have enough funds for all ideas, use objects that have served their time as material. With the help of old doors you can make a pergola, a shed for inventory, a toilet, a gazebo, a washbasin.

How to make a pergola with your own hands?

If you do not know what this design is, then read about it right now. The word "pergola" comes from the Latin and Italian words and means "building", "canopy". It is created for beauty, so that climbing plants can freely trail along this structure, protect people from the scorching sun when they walk along this terrace.

The design represents sections of arches, which are connected into a single structure by transverse bars. Pergolas can be attached to buildings, they will decorate open terraces. Sometimes they are attached to arbors or pergola arbors are built.

If you have a lot of material, then you can make a large design. If you changed the balcony, interior doors, do not throw away the old ones, then give them the opportunity to decorate the cottage.

Such a pergola landscape design looks amazing, to make it you will need:
  • two doors;
  • White paint;
  • primer;
  • sandpaper;
  • tassel;
  • boards;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • screwdriver;
  • gravel.

To remove from the door old paint, use a special solution to remove such a coating. You can put newspapers on the surface, iron with an iron, after which the layer is removed with a spatula.

Sand the prepared surface, if it is not even, first go over it with putty on wood. Once dry, make the surface smoother with sandpaper, then prime the canvas, cover with 2-3 layers of paint.

Connect these prepared blanks with vertical crossbars. If you have a jigsaw, then decorate them in the same way as in the photo, if not, just saw off to the specified size. Make two notches on each side of these crossbars, put them on the doors, fasten them with screws on the side.

To make the construction more durable, connect the parts at the top with planks sawn off at an angle of 45 degrees. They and the horizontal rafters must also be painted. Such a pergola is installed on gravel, if you want to place it near the veranda, then attach it to a wooden floor.

Can be used as fasteners corner brackets. If you do not want to bother with the preparation of the door and painting, you can, on the contrary, artificially age it.

If you have roof elements from construction, then connect the doors with them. Below you can fix the pergola on wooden pallet using corners. Then she won't touch the ground, and wooden details won't rot.

If you want to not only admire such a structure, but also be able to sit there and relax, then take:
  • 4 door leaves;
  • four curly brackets;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • fixing metal corners;
  • white paint and brush.
Attach the upper canvas to the vertical ones with openwork brackets in a contrasting color, and in the center using the corners. Also, using the corners, fix the horizontal door as a bench. Such a structure must be installed on a concrete base or on gravel so that the lower door leaves do not touch the ground.

By the way, if you like an openwork design and don’t want to mess around with painting for a long time, see how to make a pergola using carved poles and balusters.

Each of the two pairs of carved pillars must be connected with railings and balusters at the top and bottom. On top is a small gable roof, which combines the right and left walls of the pergola. It is decorated with carved elements.

You can plant climbing plants outside one and the second wall or attach boxes, place flowers in them. The inner space can be used to make a small bench here. To do this, beams or corner brackets are attached to walls 1 and 2.

There are other ideas for using old doors.

How to make a washbasin for a summer residence from old doors?

To do this, take:
  • Door;
  • bars;
  • boards;
  • fasteners;
  • countertop;
  • hooks;
  • two curly brackets.
Manufacturing master class:
  1. Two bars will become the front legs of the washbasin. Choose from four boards for the base of the table. In the countertop, you need to cut a recess in the shape of the sink, put it here, put a container on the bottom, which will need to be poured periodically. Can be installed under the sink flexible hose, bring it to drain system or a ditch for water to flow into.
  2. Four boards are fixed on the lower parts of the legs, four more are stuffed on them, which will become the lower table. Attach hooks at the top to hang towels, small garden tools here.
  3. 2 openwork corners are attached even higher. A shelf is fixed on them, on which flower pots are placed.
You can stuff 4 beams perpendicular to the door to inner dimensions were the same as a large sink. Such a washbasin for giving will be spacious. Here you can wash not only hands, but also dishes.

The old door in the next photo also easily turned into a country washbasin.

If you don’t want to cut a hole in the countertop, put a washbasin, then make a convenient table with shelves out of the door leaf.

Behind this, it is convenient to do small garden chores: dive seedlings, plant flowers in pots. You can attach hooks to the door, hang small garden tools on them so that it is at hand.

It is not difficult to make a flower girl out of an old washbasin. After attaching it to the door, pour earth here, plant plants.

Such a door does not even need to be painted, it is enough to attach it to the wall, but for better fixation, you can make hinges at the top, drive nails into the wall or attach screws, put hinges on them.

If you also have an old window that is a pity to throw away, you can turn it into one of the sides of a table or washbasin.

The design of the gazebo of doors and wood

To create such a place of rest, you will need:
  • five doors;
  • floorboards;
  • hinges for doors;
  • metal corners;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • a small sheet of corrugated board;
  • 4 beams;
  • gravel.
Creation plan:
  1. Level the site for the future building, pour gravel here, make the base for the floor from 4 beams. Put boards on top of it.
  2. Connect two doors that will become the back wall. Using metal corners and self-tapping screws, attach two more canvases to it at an angle of 90 degrees. These doors will become sidewalls.
  3. These canvases are with glass, and for the top it is necessary to use a door without glass. It is necessary to lay it at a slight angle so that water flows and snow melts. To do this, either use side doors that are higher than those that became the back wall, or attach angled bars to these side elements.
  4. Fix a sheet of corrugated board from above so that it is slightly larger on all sides than a gazebo. You can also use another roofing material. At the bottom of the door can be attached to the floor, also using the corners.
This design of the gazebo allows you to use recycled materials, save a lot.

The next building is also created based on the door. 3 canvases are installed at the back and one at a time on one and the other side. Since this design is slightly larger than the previous one, you need to attach boards to the ceiling, but you can fix the rest of the doors here transversely, using them as the basis of the roof.

To stiffen the structure, a bar with a section of 100 or 150 mm is placed at the corners, the structure must first be fastened at the bottom with floor fixing elements, and on top? roof details. It is pleasant to sit in such a gazebo without doors in the heat, here you can hide from the rain, as the roof will not let you get wet.

Such a building will appeal to both adults and children.

By the way, the kids can advise the following design. Of course, the doors must first be well connected to each other or securely fixed near the fence.

They are nailed to various shelves, hooks, where children can hang and put their toys, belongings. And adults can fix flower boxes on such structures to decorate the site. Can be fixed slate board, write small messages to each other on it.

Even a lonely door, painted in White color, will become a wonderful design element of the cottage, if you attach a box to it, plant flowering plants in it.

Even if you only have the base of the canvas left, there is no longer glass and a plywood partition on it, such a door will still serve. At the bottom, the box is fixed on it, and on top the pots are hung on a hook.

Such vertical gardening perfect for a gazebo, as you can place flowers on the back of this structure. It's nice to sit in such a structure in the fresh air, admire the colorful colors of plants.

But let's get back to our topic to see what other gazebo design can be.

Four canvases will become the sidewalls and the back wall, and the fifth will turn into the roof of the lung buildings. As you can see, the doors can be left unpainted to give this corner of the cottage a slight touch of antiquity.

It seems that the next building is also on this site for many 10 years.

For its rear wall, it uses door panels, but for the side walls, old windows are suitable. unpainted board gray color it is stuffed as elements of the roof, while the first one needs to be nailed at the bottom of the slope, the next ones should be gradually attached from above, so that each one located higher goes on the previous one by 1-2 cm. Then the rain will not penetrate inside.

You can also make a small shed for storing tools from the doors. For it you will need:

  • four doors;
  • boards;
  • bars;
  • roofing material;
  • fastening tools.
Make a base out of four bars, put it on cement slabs, stuff boards at the top, put 3 door panels here, fix them in the corners and at the bottom with corners and screws. On the front panel, attach two bars vertically. Attach to one of them. door hinges, steam rooms need to be fixed on the door.

Nail four bars on top, fix the rafters on them, fill the boards, fix the sheet of the roofing element.

You will get a gazebo-pergola if you make such a design.

Doors can be used as side walls, a bench is placed inside, on which a mattress is placed in order to be able to sit on a soft one or lie down. climbing plants planted behind the side walls. This corner of the cottage looks amazing.

The next gazebo pergola is made in white and pink colors. Two doors without glass are suitable for her. If they have plywood on the bottom, leave it on; if not, stuff boards here. Laths are nailed to the top of the door at an angle of 45 degrees perpendicular to each other.

The gable roof is made of rafters, planks are stuffed on top. A bed is fixed inside. All this charm is covered with pink and white paint. It remains to fasten boxes with flowers outside, put on a bench soft pillows, hang two tulle curtains at the entrance.

From glass doors you can make a small garden greenhouse, look how amazing it looks.

Old windows make a wonderful reliable greenhouse. It is better to clarify this issue in more detail.

How to make a greenhouse out of windows yourself?

It will also require secondary material left after the repair. If you have glass doors, take them. If there are none, you can use door frame pinned inside the glass. Windows are perfect for the next mini-greenhouse.

Before you make a greenhouse yourself, see if you have available:
  • cement blocks or bricks;
  • bars;
  • sand;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • enough windows.

The evenness of the horizontal structure during construction must be checked with a level, if necessary, make adjustments.

  1. First of all, you need to level the site on which you will build. Remove the sod along the perimeter to a small height, pour sand here. Install blocks or bricks on top, it is better to connect them with cement mortar.
  2. When it dries, put the slats on top around the perimeter, fastening them with corners and self-tapping screws.
  3. Now bars are vertically attached to this wooden base, the distance between two adjacent ones should be equal to the width of the window. At the next stage, you will need to insert them here and fix them on the side with self-tapping screws.
  4. Now put the horizontal beams at the top, also connect them together. Do not fill in the small side wall on one side yet, as this will be the entrance.
  5. Mark on the upper horizontal beams where you need to make small notches for the rafters, make them. Fasten the roof base from above. For this, it will also be possible to use glass frames or durable cellophane. If you do not want to take it off for the winter, then it is better to fix transparent polycarbonate here. From it and from the frames you will make doors.
Here's how to make a greenhouse from improvised materials. You have learned how many ideas for giving can give old doors and windows.

In conclusion, look at the intricacies of building a greenhouse from window frames. This can be useful for gardeners.

Also, you will probably be interested in a video review, which tells how the construction of the gazebo is assembled alone.

Aluminum sliding doors for a gazebo are exactly the element that you will definitely need when building and designing a recreation area near country house. Thanks to this construction, it is possible to maintain a favorable climate inside the building, partially restrict access to the territory, if necessary, and make appearance adjoining plot more modern and practical.

In general, it should be said that aluminum partitions and doors are a very versatile tool for solving various kinds of problems. They can be used to organize inner space home, create a unique exterior or delineate square meters on the spacious terrace. Pergolas in this case are no exception. So if you're looking affordable way most competently build a place for outdoor recreation, then pay attention to this method.

Aluminum sliding door design

Aluminum sliding doors for the gazebo have a structure similar to the compartment system. Thus, the main operating mechanisms here are:

  • rollers with silicone or rubber coating;
  • guides made of durable alloys or steel of various grades;
  • stops and stops at the extreme opening point;
  • the sashes themselves, which can be made of different materials;
  • clamps, fasteners, closers and other fittings.

As you can see, the set is very standard, although if desired, it can be diversified with various additions in the form of electric drives, remote controls and other technical achievements of recent years. But the standard equipment is quite suitable for everyday trouble-free use for many years.

Aluminum Profile Sliding Door Materials

Aluminum sliding doors for gazebos are not only and not so much cold metal, which does not fit into the atmosphere in the most successful way surrounding nature, greenery and freshness. In order to harmoniously connect this element with the rest of the objects on the site, it is better to choose doors made of natural glass or wood. If the budget is significantly limited, give preference to plastic, PVC, plexiglass and other analogues with a more loyal price tag. These options also emphasize the decoration of the yard well and are combined with any other materials.

The door to the gazebo may not be the usual wooden or iron on standard hinges. At the moment, there are various modifications designed for any connoisseur. So don't stop at simple version, and decorate the gazebo with some unusual device.

Popular types of doors to the gazebo

There are many options for doors that can be equipped with a gazebo. They differ in designs and materials.

Did you know? The oldest door in operation today is in England. It is not known for certain who and when it was made, but according to the measurements made by scientists, it was produced in the 19th century.

Most popular example:

  1. Sliding (sliding) doors with aluminum profile. It is mainly used for large buildings, but can also be placed on small structures. It is mounted from several sections that converge in one direction.
  2. Doors folding accordion. Not to be confused with sliding ones, they do not move apart, but fold. Each sash consists of several sections that move from top to bottom.
  3. American. It is made in the form of hinged wooden doors in the style of American cowboy saloons. Suitable for non-glazed gazebos.
  4. polycarbonate door. This material is used, as a rule, in greenhouses. The option is budget, but if you approach this with the right skill, you get a decent design that you can do with your own hands.
  5. Radius. They are mounted on gazebos having the shape of a circle. Created from glass and curved rails. This option is expensive and they are placed on a curved door portal.

Sliding

This species has recently begun to gain popularity. It is mounted on glazed gazebos, as it has the ability to close tightly and not let in cold air.

There are several types of such portals:

  1. Tilt-shifting. The functionality of this design is similar to that installed in trolleybuses. The canvas moves in towards the opening and to the side. A similar door is equipped with a special latch that can lock it in any position convenient for the owner.
  2. Moving uphill. To open such a door, you must first lift it slightly up. It differs in that when closing, sealing mechanisms are activated that securely close the portal.
  3. folding. It has 2-3 doors that fold like an accordion. The good thing is that when closing, it completely frees the passage. Of the minuses - poor thermal insulation.

The price of sliding portals depends on:

  • material;
  • size;
  • installation (on their own or not);
  • Scenery;
  • types of structures.

Accordion (folding)

Folding portals differ in varieties and design options. By type of device, they are divided into:

  • consisting of narrow lamellas and a panel base;
  • with two guides.

If the first type of device has rollers at the bottom, thanks to which it opens and closes, then the second one is equipped with synchronizers that have the ability to move more smoothly and close better.

Important! Accordion-folding doors have one big plus - this is their compactness, so it is better to use such products in small buildings.

Varieties of such doors are divided according to the materials from which they were made:

  1. Wooden. The most environmentally friendly variety. In its manufacture, oak, veneer or pressed chips can be used, it all depends on the financial capacity of the owner of the gazebo.
  2. Plastic. There are two advantages to plastic products - low price and big choice. They can be any color and decorated as you like. In addition, they are quite durable and are not subject to weather and mechanical stress. But the sound and heat insulation of this material is not up to par.
  3. glass. Used to close wide portals. They look rich, can be matte or mosaic. Also, colored film or sandblasting pattern can be applied to glass surfaces. They transmit light well, which is suitable for gazebos located in a shady place. They are not capricious in care, but they have two disadvantages: a high price and a lot of weight.
  4. Textile. In arbors, they perform a purely decorative function. Even if the fabric in the sections is very dense, it performs noise and any other insulating functions poorly. The only thing it will do is not to let flying insects into the glassed-in room in the evening. This option can be used as a "temporary" option until something more suitable is purchased.

How to make a polycarbonate sliding door

Polycarbonate material is good because any type of portal can be made from it - sliding, hinged, frameless and frame. After selecting the desired option, you can begin to create it.

Important! When mounting doors to a polycarbonate gazebo, it is necessary to take into account the thermal deformation of this material. Without this, the canvas may deteriorate or tear in the winter.

The very design of sliding doors made of polycarbonate material is divided into a number of simple steps:

  1. Sheet cutting. It can be done with a circular saw or a regular construction knife. The main thing is to correctly measure the desired fragment of the canvas and close it around the edges with adhesive tape in order to avoid contamination.
  2. drilling. This work can be done with an ordinary drill for metal. But it must be new or hardly used. Holes should be made between the stiffeners. It is also necessary that they be at least 0.5 cm away from the edges.
  3. fasteners. Fastening of polycarbonate material is carried out with conventional self-tapping screws or thermal washers. The latter are more preferable, as they have a latch, which improves tightness during fastening.
  4. Sealing. Produced by perforation tape or aluminum self-adhesive. It must be done along the ends of the sheet to prevent contamination and condensation.

Necessary materials and tools

The standard set of tools and materials for the creation of polycarbonate sliding doors includes:

  • self-tapping screws and thermal washers;
  • electric drill with a set of drills;
  • polycarbonate sheet;
  • metal corners;
  • level and tape measure;
  • awnings;
  • wooden beam;
  • polycarbonate cutter.

Creation technology

To create a sliding door, you must perform a certain algorithm:

  1. Measure the material and the doorway.
  2. Mount the frame.
  3. Sheathe door leaf.
  4. Install awnings.
  5. Install portal.

Mandatory are the work on measuring the entrance opening, since they create the main canvas. Its corners must be even, to avoid distortions during further use. Before sheathing the canvas, you can paint it, but before that, you should polish the surface.

Installation Features

Mounting a sliding door should begin with the installation of a guide mechanism.

Did you know? The heaviest door the globe installed at the California National Laboratory. Its height is 2.5 m, and its weight is 312 tons.

Myself step by step process should be done as follows:

  1. Installation of the guide mechanism.
  2. Mounting rings on a polycarbonate sheet.
  3. Canvas coloring.
  4. Installation of the door structure to the rails.
  5. Carrying out soundproofing.

Doors in the gazebo may look different. At the moment, there is a wide choice of materials and designs for the door leaf. The choice depends on the preferences and financial capabilities of the owner.

Polycarbonate is positioned as building material which has been used relatively recently. Despite this, it is in great demand in the market and this popularity is constantly growing. In most cases, polycarbonate is used for the construction of gazebos, terraces, greenhouses and other buildings. In addition, such material is also used in the construction of individual building elements.

We are talking about doors or windows. And if before the door made of polycarbonate were relevant only for small street buildings, today such material is used for mounting residential doors.

Features of creating polycarbonate doors

The classification of polycarbonate doors is carried out according to various features. According to the method of installation, they can be sliding or hinged. According to certain design features, polycarbonate doors can be frame or frameless. Depending on their original purpose, they are divided into input and interior.

When creating doors, certain operational features of polycarbonate should be taken into account. Such material is able to last as long as possible, but only subject to certain rules. Resolving the issue of door installation will include procedures for cutting, drilling and attaching polycarbonate to other materials.

1. Cutting polycarbonate sheets

When cutting a polycarbonate door body, it may be necessary to use circular saw. In addition, you can resort to the use of other cutting equipment or conventional construction knife. At the same time, sawdust that was formed during the cutting process can be easily removed with a jet compressed air. It is very important at the end of this stage to close the ends with adhesive tape. This will help keep dust out.

2. Drilling polycarbonate

You can drill this variation of the material using a standard metal drill. You should first check that it is sharp enough. Drilling is carried out between the stiffeners. Implemented holes must be at least 40 mm away from the edge of the sheet.

3. Polycarbonate mount

Point fastening of polycarbonate is carried out by using simple self-tapping screws and special thermal washers. The latter consist of a plastic washer with a foot, a sealing washer and a snap-on cover.

The use of thermal washers allows for reliable and tight fastening, and also helps to eliminate cold bridges that form when using self-tapping screws.

4. End sealing

When cutting polycarbonate, one should not forget about the need for high-quality sealing of the ends. To solve this issue, it is advisable to resort to the use of self-adhesive aluminum tape or use a special perforated tape. This will prevent the formation of dust, as well as ensure a high-quality condensate drain.

Important! When creating external doors from polycarbonate, it is forbidden to carry out the installation of the structure without taking into account thermal deformation. Failure to comply with such conditions can lead to damage to the material and even to its rupture in the cold season.

What tools and materials might be needed?

At the preliminary stage of the installation work it is recommended to prepare the necessary set of tools and additional materials which may be useful in resolving this issue. Such a set will be formed depending on the specifics of the work.

In most cases it will look like this:

  • electric drill with drills;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • thermal washers;
  • polycarbonate sheets;
  • metal corners for tightening the frame;
  • measuring devices (tape measure, building level, square);
  • timber;
  • canopies.

Canopies are required for attachment to door frame. They will help create the most stable and reliable design. The polycarbonate sheet is selected depending on the size of the doorway. In addition, you can additionally take care of installing a partition.

Subject to the installation of a frameless variation of the door, you can limit yourself to the use of canopies and polycarbonate sheets. The door base is cut out and fastened using self-tapping screws.

Technology for creating polycarbonate doors

Frameless

The manufacturing technology of a frameless polycarbonate door is quite simple. This variation of the product has a richer appearance.

The whole essence of the work is reduced to the preparation of the door body required sizes in accordance with the dimensions of the doorway. To get the maximum exact dimensions you can use the old door structure by simply outlining its outline.

frame

If there is a frame, the door manufacturing process can be somewhat complicated. This is due to the need to create additional elements designs. The sequence of actions in this case will look like this:

  1. Carrying out appropriate measurements.
  2. Frame installation.
  3. Canvas painting.
  4. Frame sheathing.
  5. Installation of awnings.
  6. Door installation.

On the preparatory stage all necessary measurements of the doorway should be carried out. according to given sizes. When making it, it is recommended to ensure that the corners of the structure are straight. This will avoid distortion during subsequent operation.

If used as a basis wooden slats, it is best to first tighten the corners with metal corners.

Advice! The fabricated frame should be 1-1.5 mm smaller than the doorway. Due to this, the doors will be tightly closed during further operation.

Before sheathing the frame, you can resort to painting the surface or varnishing it. When painting, the door must first be sanded well.

Installation of polycarbonate doors is much easier than installing other door variations. This is due to the minimum weight indicators of the finished structure.

Cellular polycarbonate is used not only for the construction of greenhouses and sheds. Many interior decorations and design elements are made from polycarbonate sheets. A polycarbonate door is very popular - a colorless or colored translucent structure with low weight, but at the same time high heat and sound insulation characteristics. Moreover, not only classic doors are popular, but functional and easy-to-use sliding door systems.

It is enough to look at what has already been done assembled doors from polycarbonate do-it-yourself photos to fully appreciate their attractive appearance.

Advantages of sliding doors

Polycarbonate sliding doors are traditionally used in the arrangement of arbors, winter gardens and greenhouses. In addition, they can be used on verandas and self-built greenhouses as full-fledged doors or mobile partitions.

There are many advantages to this type of structure:

  • significant space savings. Door leaves of this type do not require space to open in front of them and behind them. The main thing is that the length of the wall is sufficient for the full extension of the canvas. But if a polycarbonate door accordion is installed, then this is not required either;
  • lightness, but at the same time structural strength. This is due to the unique qualities of the material itself. The polycarbonate sheet is significantly superior to glass in its performance characteristics;
  • simplicity and minimal maintenance design. The absence of hinges eliminates the risk of sagging sashes over time. The mechanism itself does not require adjustment and periodic adjustment during the entire service life;
  • high heat and sound insulation. Subject to all the rules of installation and use of high-quality fittings door leaves adjoin the opening and to each other as tightly as possible, preventing the appearance of drafts or the penetration of precipitation into the room;
  • versatility. From pieces of multi-colored plastic, you can assemble a real and spectacular stained-glass window not only for windows, but also for doors of any type;
  • possibility of ventilation. To create a draft, it is worthy to push the sashes a little. Unlike traditional swing structures, polycarbonate sliding doors look aesthetically pleasing and stylish in any position.

It will not be difficult to mount polycarbonate sliding doors with your own hands even for a person with minimal skills in the field of construction, decoration and installation work.

Benefits of using polycarbonate in sliding structures

Polycarbonate for doors in compartment configuration has a lot of advantages over conventional glass. All of them are due to the features of this polymer and its characteristics:

  • ten times lighter than glass and just as strong;
  • has a high light transmission, reaching 95% for a transparent canvas and somewhat less for a color one (depending on the specific shade and its saturation);
  • due to the cells filled with air, it has high sound and heat insulation qualities;
  • completely safe during operation, environmentally friendly and non-toxic, even when heated, does not emit environment harmful substances;
  • easy to handle standard set tools, does not require special skills and abilities;
  • resistant to temperature effects in a wide range, not afraid of temperature changes;
  • possesses high moisture resistance and is not subject to corrosion, does not pass moisture;
  • chemically neutral, immune to aggressive acids and alkalis;
  • safe. Even if it can be damaged, plastic, unlike ordinary glass, will not shatter into traumatic fragments;
  • subject to all installation conditions, it completely retains its original appearance and attractiveness throughout the entire service life.

Sliding doors made of polycarbonate look stylish and impressive, they are easy to care for. They fully retain their performance and aesthetic appearance for a long time.

How to choose polycarbonate for compartment doors?

Before you make sliding doors out of polycarbonate, you should decide on the type of wings. For the installation of sliding door systems, 2 types of polycarbonate leaf can be used:

  • monolithic polycarbonate. A door made of monolithic polycarbonate looks like glass, but at the same time it is significantly superior door structures from glass with its characteristics;
  • cellular polycarbonate. It is lighter, cheaper and more heat efficient than a monolithic canvas, but it has a pronounced cellular structure. An important condition during its installation, the ends are effectively sealed - otherwise moisture and pollution will accumulate inside the material, which will negatively affect the appearance of the canvas.

It is important to note that the doors, which include both cellular and monolithic polycarbonate, have common qualities: this is durability and external attractiveness that remains throughout the entire service life.

Types of polycarbonate sliding doors

Before you start making a polycarbonate door with your own hands, you should decide on its configuration. The most common options are:

  • parallel sliding models. Structurally, they represent two or more canvases moving along one guide. The closing of such a door occurs when the canvases close in the middle of the doorway. The most common and easy-to-manufacture option, on the basis of which both full-fledged doors and doors of various cabinets, partitions and other structures are made;
  • sliding-folding models - traditional "accordions". They also move along guides, the canvases in them consist of several parts connected by hinges. When moving, such door structures are folded.

In addition to the type of doors directly, it is also worth paying attention to the type of canvas. It can be:

  • frame sheets. They are based on a special frame, to which a polycarbonate sheet is subsequently attached. Wood, plastics or metal can be used as frame material - the choice is entirely up to you and depends on the project, operating conditions and personal preferences. Door systems of this type are usually installed in places with high traffic, since the frame ensures the safety of the polycarbonate sheet and its protection from mechanical stress. Inexpensive and fairly easy to implement option;
  • frameless canvases. To make a polycarbonate door of this type, it is necessary to use monolithic canvases of increased thickness: only they are able to provide a stable and safe work door system. The fact is that honeycomb plastic or a monolithic sheet of small thickness without a frame will be deformed, which will create certain difficulties in the operation of doors.

It is worth noting that it is better for a beginner to stop at the frame system, since it is easier to manufacture and does not require assembly experience. In addition, you can insert pieces of cellular polycarbonate of various colors that form the stained glass doors - it looks quite impressive and attractive.

How to assemble a door frame

It is optimal to use standard profiles for a polycarbonate sheet as a frame - they are made of plastic or aluminum.

The frame for canvases should be made only from the end profile. Moreover, it is better to dwell on the metal version - it is more mechanically strong, durable and reliable. It will not only give the panel the required rigidity for the door leaf, but will also hide chips and small inaccuracies that inevitably occur when cutting a polycarbonate sheet without proper experience. In addition, the end profile closes the ends of the leaf, protecting it from the penetration of dust, water and insects. This will allow the door to fully maintain its transparency and original appearance throughout its entire service life.

Before you make a polycarbonate compartment door, do not forget to also process the ends with a sealed tape. When choosing a profile, keep in mind that its height should be completely the same as the width of the polycarbonate sheet.

How to choose a sliding mechanism for sliding doors

Before you assemble a polycarbonate compartment door with your own hands, you should decide on a sliding mechanism. For a polycarbonate leaf, it is necessary to choose the mechanisms used for glass doors: they are equipped with clamping or point-clamping fastening configurations. The scheme of their work is simple:

  • in clamping systems, the strips cover the entire canvas along the upper edge, after which they are compressed, securely fixing it;
  • in point-clamping mechanisms, it is necessary to additionally drill one edge of the web to install bolts that tighten the mechanism slats. This option is more reliable, but requires the mandatory installation of a metal end profile on the sashes.

Sturdy but light door made of polycarbonate is equipped with a roller top mounting mechanism, which can be:

  • open type. In it, the guide is made in the form of a pipe, inside which a roller made in the form of a pulley moves;
  • closed type. Such a mechanism is equipped with roller carriages of a clamping configuration, with a decorative strip of the upper guide that is closed upon completion of installation work;
  • hinged type. In it, the carriages are mounted on the side of the canvas, while the guide is not directly above the sash, but slightly away from it.

There is practically no difference whether to make doors for a polycarbonate cabinet, for greenhouses or for a gazebo - the principle of their manufacture and operation is similar.

Door manufacturing procedure

To make polycarbonate sliding doors for a gazebo, greenhouse or greenhouse, you just need to follow a certain sequence of actions:

  1. Develop a drawing of the future design.
  2. Cut the polycarbonate sheet according to the previously developed drawing. For cutting, you can use a jigsaw or circular saw with speed control. Use a blade (or disc) with fine, frequent teeth as a tool rig.
  3. Carefully process the ends of the polycarbonate sheet with sealing tape.
  4. Mark, cut and install the end profiles on the canvas. For their reliable fixation, you can use transparent silicone glue.
  5. Assemble the sliding door mechanism in the door frame: install and level the guide.
  6. Install the rollers on the door leaf.
  7. Completely assemble the entire structure and check its performance.

Important! When orienting the flaps, it must be taken into account that the UV-reflecting side of the polycarbonate sheet must be located on the outside. You can recognize the “necessary” side by the glued protective film with the marking.

When assembling polycarbonate gazebo doors, remember that your ideas are practically unlimited: the polycarbonate sheet is produced not only in various thicknesses, but also in a rich selection of colors from the RAL catalog.

Unlike glass, polycarbonate canvas is easy to cut, bend and process. This is its main advantage, which has become the reason for such a high prevalence of the material.
