Landscaping and planning

Parquet is quite in demand as decorative coating gender. For many, the decisive factor is its aesthetics and environmental friendliness of the material. At the same time, wood is more susceptible to external influences than others. For example, over time, he may begin to publish unpleasant sound- creak. There are several reasons for this, but whatever it was, it was extremely unpleasant. Let's see why the parquet creaks, what to do.

Why the parquet board creaks: the main reasons

What to do so that the parquet does not creak? First of all, you need to find out the root causes. Let's take a look at the most common ones. Mostly they are associated with installation errors.

The source of the sound is found first. It can manifest itself after walking on the floor or with changes in temperature and humidity. The latter indicates incorrect operating conditions. Before laying, you must familiarize yourself with them and strictly observe them.

There are several reasons for the appearance of noise. Their careful analysis will help to decide how to get rid of the situation:

 • Insufficient evenness of the subfloor. Due to poor leveling of the base, the parquet sooner or later begins to deform, which results in its mobility. The result is a creak. The material is usually laid on a base of plywood or fiberboard sheets. In its absence or loose fit to concrete floor a creak also appears.
 • Cover has expired. Over time, the tree begins to dry out, change its shape and density. Which leads to a violation of the geometry of the plane - some planks swell;
 • Tight fit of the floor covering to the walls. The absence of gaps interferes with the standard expansion of wooden dies, does not allow straightening. Hence the creak.
 • Incorrect lag device or their deformation. Among the errors in laying the lag, we note the absence or violation of heat or vapor barrier, too small or large step. This leads to loosening of the lag. Deformed, they bend and set the planks in motion. Rubbing boards emit an unpleasant creak.
 • Other causes of parquet creakiness in violation of moisture or temperature regime indoors or errors at .

No matter for what reason it creaks, repair is a must. Even with small extraneous noise, it is necessary to take actions to eliminate them. The problem will not be solved by itself - it will only become larger.

If the room initially has special operating conditions (high humidity, sudden temperature changes) - you should choose the right type of decorative coating. Its properties can be found on the packaging or in the manufacturer's data sheet.

What to do: troubleshooting options

Let's say you have established why the shield parquet or board creaks. What to do? The answer to the question lies in the very reason. Let's figure out what to do different situations. Let's dwell on the most common sources of the problem.

uneven base

The most common mistake is the unsatisfactory level of preparation before laying the decor. The minimum installation requirements must be observed, in particular, the rough surface must be leveled.

The floor boards are locked together or pressed very tightly. When the floor is uneven, voids appear between the decor and the base. As a result, under load, friction occurs wooden surfaces between themselves.

The floor, unfortunately, will have to be dismantled and start all over again. After filling the irregularities on the cleaned base, it is poured with a new DSP or.

The height difference on the surface of a new subfloor must be less than 2 mm for every 2 m2. Otherwise, after a while the pattern will repeat itself.

For better and more reliable results, it is recommended to cover the screed chipboard sheets, but here you can expect pitfalls.

Thus, after taking measurements and revealing that the old parquet creaks precisely because of this, they dismantle it. This is the only way out of this situation. Depending on the material of manufacture of the rough base, the following methods of leveling it are chosen:

 • Concrete screed. Pouring leveling compound. It is important to choose the right type and prepare the solution. The thicker it is, the higher maximum height fills;
 • wooden base. To align it, install sheets of fiberboard, chipboard or plywood. The lag level is preliminarily adjusted.

After dismantling the decorative coating, check the condition of each die. Their geometry and shape are controlled. Re-assembly is carried out according to standard technology. To improve the appearance, you can do cycling and re-opening with varnish.

Most effective way solve the question of why the parquet board creaks. However, due to the complexity, most often the problem is solved locally, in a certain part of the floor.

If, due to the loose fit of the chipboard to the concrete base, the parquet in the apartment creaks, how to fix it?

Most likely, it will not be possible to get rid of a creak in this situation without cardinal intervention. However, if the floor defect is local, you can use the method used by the craftsmen.

Of the tools you will need:

 • chisel,
 • drill with 10 mm drill with drill,
 • DSP, prepared in a ratio of one to three,
 • syringe.

Find the places where the sound is coming from. Remove some boards. Drill a hole in the opened area and pour in the solution with a syringe. Repeat the process in a day, and after another one, restore the boards in their places. In this simple way, the problem will be solved.

Humidity mismatch

If you notice that this unpleasant sound occurs only in certain months, say, in late autumn, then this is most likely due to a sharp change in the moisture content in the air. Over the summer, the plates seem to accumulate moisture, and when it starts heating season the boards begin to give it away and dry up, hence this sound.

Getting rid of it is very easy.

 • Get a hygrometer and constantly check the humidity level. For this indicator, the humidity should be above 50-60 percent.
 • Properly care for the floor: it is impossible to wash such a coating, because, firstly, the dice absorb moisture very quickly, and, secondly, water, getting into the cracks between them, contributes to swelling and subsequent deformation of the dice. If necessary, just wipe the floor with a damp cloth.
 • The conditions under which also play a certain role: the moisture content of the parquet should be about 9–10 percent, and the installation itself should be carried out at 15–20⁰.

The old coating peeled off

 • Mark all “squeaky” places with chalk or a marker. This area is marked with small pieces of masking tape, arranged in 20 cm increments.
 • According to the marking, holes (Ø 2 mm) are drilled in depth to the very concrete base.
 • Using a medical syringe, squeeze out a little glue there and let it dry. This takes about an hour.

On a note

In the process of drying, the glue begins to foam and, most likely, will partially come out. That is why adhesive tape is needed, it protects the parquet from damage. If adhesive nevertheless gets on the surface of the coating, it can be removed using a solvent.

 • Masking tape along with the remaining glue is removed.
 • It would be nice to press down the repaired areas with something heavy, say, bags of flour or sand.
 • Then, the floor is restored. You can use pieces of crayon from wax in the color of the coating.
 • You can walk through the repaired areas in a day.

Lack of required gaps between floor and walls

One of the most common mistakes in laying parquet is the lack of a thermal gap between the decor and the walls. As a result, when the dies expand, surface tension is formed. Extraneous sounds appear.

The only way out is to make the temperature gap yourself. If it is found out why the parquet board creaks and what to do, it is necessary to choose the right tools. Also being developed technology system coating upgrades.

For the formation straight line cutting off excess material will require a jigsaw. It is desirable that it be with a built-in chip collector. You will also need spacers that will fix the material along the wall. But their elastic material will compensate for the expansion of the tree.

The procedure for repairing parquet to eliminate creaking is as follows.

 1. Dismantling skirting boards.
 2. Marking the future cutting line. The distance from the decor plane to the wall should be 2-3 mm on each side.
 3. Cut edge of boards.
 4. Installation of elastic pads. The optimal distance between them should be 5-7 cm.
 5. Re-assembly of plinth.

It is advisable to level the decorative floor with a special hammer after making the cut. Only then can you proceed with the installation of linings.

During the execution of the work, it is necessary to ensure that the front sides of the extreme dies are not damaged. Protective tape is recommended. After the repair is completed, it is easily removed.

If the area of the room is large enough, it is necessary to dismantle part of the parquet to remove surface tension.

The gaps between the lamellas and the base

Even with a flat floor, air gaps can occur between it and decorative material. It is due to the natural process of drying the dice, changing their shape. Especially often observed for old material.

In no case should only one part of the coating be rigidly fixed. This will only help to temporarily eliminate the creaking of parquet in the apartment. Over time, the problem will reappear. The main thing is to find out the causes of the phenomenon. Only after that you can start repair work.

It will take wooden lath, hammer and wood glue. The height of the rail must be 0.5 mm greater than the thickness of the decor. Having determined the "problem" place, the following work is done.

 1. With the help of several hammer blows, the planks are pressed against the base. Be sure to form a gap between the dies.
 2. Installing the rail in the slot and fixing it with an adhesive solution.
 3. With the help of a planer or a sharp knife, the general plane of the floor is leveled, removing the excess height of the wedge.

This method can only be used if the cause of the noise in the parquet is a change in the geometry of the planks. Similar defects are observed when the coating is incorrectly installed. But to solve them, you need to use another technology.

On a note

When gluing the rails to the ends of the dies, make sure that the glue does not get on the outer part of the decor. If this happens, it should be removed immediately with a damp cloth.

Shrunken parquet

Speaking of defects in the parquet floor, swollen dies are often mentioned. However, to no less negative consequences leads to drying out of the boards. To eliminate the creak in such cases, various methods are used.

 • Old and varnished, which penetrates into the pores of the wood and the gaps between the planks. He "tightly" fixes the boards between themselves and to the base, and the creaking stops.
 • Squeaky boards are removed and replaced with new ones. If the removed dice retained their appearance, they can be reused. Clean the cavity that has opened, cover it with a piece of thin cardboard and nail a die on top of it. Hide the nails under a layer of wax or putty and buff the area to be repaired.
 • Between individual boards, wooden pins can be hammered in in a special way. To begin with, a hole is drilled between them (Ø 8 mm). The drill should make an angle of 45⁰ with the surface of the coating. Thin pins are lubricated with carpentry glue and driven into the prepared holes. The excess is cut off from the outside, for example, with a chisel. Flaws are sealed with putty and polished.

Loose fasteners and lags

To begin with, open access to the required area of the base of the floor. Then additionally fix the logs in these places with one or two self-tapping screws. If the loose area is large, a wedge can be hammered in and secured across the joist. The protruding edge of the wedge must be sawn off.

Violation of operating modes

Like any natural material Wood is very sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity. This causes the fibers to swell. What to do if panel parquet creaks in a room with special operating conditions - a bathroom or kitchen?

The most correct solution is to install the appropriate material. But he, over time, can lose his geometric dimensions. Therefore, a number of restoration works should also be carried out for moisture-resistant parquet.

First, the state of each plate is analyzed. They should be even, without curvature. If such problems were identified, a replacement will be required. First you need to pick up identical boards for replacement.

Further actions are carried out according to such regulations.

 1. Dismantling of damaged plates. In some cases, it will be more convenient to cut out some of them.
 2. Installing new ones. You can use glue or nails. It is important that mounting nodes are not visible on the front of the coating.
 3. Check for gaps. If they are observed, hide them using the technology described above.

If questions arise, the parquet creaks, what to do - it turns out the cause of the appearance of extraneous sounds and draws up optimal scheme for their elimination. One of the most reliable ways is to disassemble the coating to the defective part and re-install it.

Now you are fully equipped and know how to get rid of this unpleasant sound.

The content of the article:

Parquet creaking is an annoying sound that accompanies the friction of weakened wooden floor elements among themselves. Everyone has probably faced such a problem either at home or in a public place. It can accompany the operation of the coating, annoying residents for many years, if drastic measures are not taken. Our today's material is about how to eliminate the creak of parquet without resorting to the help of specialists.

The main causes of creaking parquet floors

It should be said right away that usually only the old parquet creaks. Due to the fact that natural wood is used in its manufacture, the creak of the coating can be considered a kind of retribution for the environmental cleanliness of the floor. Indeed, after all, natural material does not contain absolutely any chemical substances, which could prevent shrinkage of parquet elements over time.

Before eliminating the creak of such a floor, it is advisable to find out the cause of the extraneous sound. Its sources may be parquet laths, underlayment adjacent to the base, or wooden logs. Let's look at what needs to happen with all this in order for the parquet to begin to "play music":

The creak of parquet can appear when the wooden plates are peeled off from the base, which can be a concrete screed, plywood sheets or bituminous mastic. For the characteristic sound of the floor, the friction of the released dies between each other is sufficient, even with their minimal movement. The cause of delamination may be uneven evaporation of moisture from parquet wood with the formation of cavities between the floor covering and the base. It is in such places that the floor dies begin to shift. Over time, dust and small debris accumulate under them, which complicates the problem.

Among other reasons for the occurrence of a parquet floor creak, the following can be distinguished: splitting of wooden planks, their drying out, breakage of a crest or groove of a single board or several, loose nests of screws or fastener nails, lack of a deformation gap between the walls and the parquet flooring, movement of the log or ends of the boards relative to each other to friend. All these floor defects cause friction of the plates between themselves, on the base, on loose fasteners, provoking the appearance of a creak of the old parquet.

Such defects are caused by floor device errors, which can be conditionally divided into technological and operational categories.

The first include violations of the rules for the installation and drying of wood parquet boards:

 • Uneven floor base;
 • Loose fit of plywood or fiberboard substrate to it;
 • Incorrect location, insufficient fasteners, violation of dimensions and deformation of wooden logs;
 • Incorrect fastening of floor tiles and skirting boards, lack of temperature gaps;
 • Lack of vapor barrier protection of the floor, which leads to wetting of the parquet from below;
 • Inconsistency of the moisture content of the original floor wood with accepted standards.
Errors in the operation of parquet include unacceptable loads on it in the form of mechanical and chemical influences, as well as violation of the temperature and humidity conditions.

Preparatory work before parquet repair

An impressive list of reasons for the creaking of the parquet floor encourages you to know its design, installation method and the fasteners used. In this case, it will be easier to choose a way to eliminate the creak of parquet with your own hands, while saving a lot of time.

It is not difficult to identify a creaking area of the floor. To do this, it is enough to walk around the room and, if extraneous sounds are found under your feet, stop in time and mark suspicious areas of the parquet with chalk. After completing the “bypass”, you need to carefully examine the marked places on the floor, determining visible to the eye defects. If they are not identified, the problem may be hiding under the flooring. In this case, its partial or complete replacement.

After determining the causes of the creak, you can begin to eliminate them by repairing the parquet floor. For work, you need to stock up on the following tools and aids: electric drill, drills with a diameter of 2 mm, a medical syringe, polyurethane glue, dowels, rags and masking tape.

Technology for repairing parquet when it creaks

The cardinal measure of getting rid of parquet creaking is the complete replacement of the flooring. It is associated with the removal of all parquet slabs, proper preparation of the base, followed by laying the dismantled floor elements, scraping the finished coating, sanding it and painting it with varnish in several layers. This procedure is usually used when identifying large areas of delaminated parquet, and its implementation entails significant time and financial costs. But with a local floor creak, you can use narrowly targeted methods to eliminate it. Let's take a look at them.

Removal of potholes and cracks in parquet

When the parquet, when walking, emits not just a creak, but also a loud crack, this is a sign of low humidity or high temperature in the room, since the floor slabs, laid wet on the floor, dry out and become cracked under such conditions.

Small gaps can be puttied to match the parquet, and potholes can be repaired with a mixture of wood, choosing the appropriate color. Instead of putty, you can use an adhesive casein composition, including sawdust. After processing the problem areas, they must be carefully sanded and then varnished on wood.

It is useless to close up wide cracks, they will not hold the binder solution. In this case, the damaged parquet board will have to be replaced. To perform this work, it is necessary to choose a plank that matches the size, color and type of wood to the rest of the parquet slabs.

Its recovery in this case is performed in the following order. The dried-up plate must be split into pieces with a hammer and chisel, and then removed from the floor in parts, starting from the middle along with the adhesive base. The resulting cavity should be carefully cleaned and its base carefully leveled.

Then, from the new plank, you need to cut off the comb, and grind the cut point with a planer. If necessary, grooves and ridges can be cut from adjacent floor dies. When replacing several planks located side by side at once, they should first be fastened together into a single riveting. Before doing this, it is recommended to make sure that it fits perfectly to the location of a number of old damaged dies.

Then, on the cleaned and leveled base of the floor recess left after removing the damaged dies, pour bituminous mastic heated to 160 degrees or a suitable glue. A riveting should be laid on the treated surface, and then the excess adhesive composition squeezed out by it should be carefully removed.

On the updated section of the parquet floor, you need to put some kind of load for a while. When the mastic or glue under the riveting is dry, it should be sanded with fine-grained sandpaper, remove wood dust from it and paint with varnish.

Parquet floor repair

It is performed in cases where an absolutely flat floor creaks. There are two options here. One of them involves the creation of an intermediate lining of the parquet floor from sheets of plywood 12 mm thick. This will allow you to get rid of the squeak for a long time, but it is impossible to guarantee that it will never resume with this option of parquet repair.

Repairing the base according to another option is much easier, but in this case you need to know what the parquet was attached to. If it was laid on bituminous mastic, then the elimination of parquet creaking can be done as follows. Prepare a building hair dryer and use it to heat the parquet slabs to such a state that the bituminous mastic melts under them. The main thing in this method is not to overdo it, so as not to damage the front of the parquet. After the mastic is ready, the dies above it must be pressed with some kind of load until the adhesive has cooled.

Installing wedges between parquet planks

If the floor plates are poorly fixed to the logs or beams, then as a result of walking on such a coating, friction of its elements against each other occurs, accompanied by a creak. To prevent such friction, wedges are driven between the beams and parquet boards. If there is no access to the bottom of the floor, the joists can be attached to the logs from above.

Parquet creaking can be eliminated by driving wooden wedges between the flooring boards, maintaining a distance of 15-20 cm between them. It is important to ensure that the wedges do not protrude above the floor level. They can be carefully hammered with a hammer and a piece of metal bar.

Pouring adhesive under parquet

Before removing the creak of the parquet in this way, it is necessary to mark points at the centers of the problem areas of the floor with a distance of 15 cm from each other and stick masking tape on them. Then you need to drill through holes in the dies according to the marks and pour glue under the parquet through them. The holes should be 2 mm in diameter, and a syringe should be used to fill through them.

Thereafter parquet flooring must be pressed with a heavy load to the base. After an hour, the glue will dry, after which the adhesive tape can be removed. If glue accidentally gets on the parquet, it can be removed with a solvent that is used to work with mounting foam.

Wax crayons should be matched to the color of the parquet in advance. A day after the completion of the repair, with their help, you need to fill the holes through which the glue was poured. The work is completed by polishing the parquet with a rag.

Using anchors to repair parquet

If the base of the parquet floor is a concrete slab, metal anchors can be used to eliminate its squeak, which will have to be fixed manually.

First, a small hole is drilled in the coating, a metal shell is inserted into it, into which a pin is then screwed, tightly tightening the parquet with a concrete base.

This method is very effective, but also the most expensive, since on average about 200 anchors may be needed to repair parquet sections, and each of them costs 10-15 rubles.

Tightening parquet with screws

If the parquet creaks in places where it comes into contact with the joists, this problem can be eliminated by tightening the floor boards to wooden beams. The only problem that may arise here is the search for lag under the cover.

The repair procedure consists in additionally fixing the parquet board to the beam with two or three screws. Previously, a hole for fasteners is drilled from the side of the die in the log. After screwing in the screws, their hats must be drowned in the wood of the board, the resulting recess should be sealed with putty, and then sanded with sandpaper.

Stretching parquet floor

This procedure is quite laborious, but at the same time cheap. Its essence lies in the fact that in order to eliminate the creak of the parquet floor, it will be necessary to replace all the nails that serve as fasteners for the dies with screws. They are devoid of the main drawback inherent in nails - creaking in areas of contact with wood.

A nail driven into wood usually holds its layers tightly around the metal. But over time, the metal rusts, decreases in diameter and weakens the fastening. Then a backlash appears, which is accompanied by a creaking sound.

After replacing the parquet fasteners in problem areas of the floor, the recesses from the screw heads should be repaired with wood putty, and then sanded.

How to eliminate the creak of parquet - look at the video:

Usually, measures to eliminate the creak of parquet are combined with other related work, for example, varnishing or waxing the floor. Together, all this will extend the life of the floor for many years, even considering its already considerable age.

AT big cities works great amount construction stores that are full of variety floor coverings. However, consumers most often prefer the good old parquet, on which even our grandparents walked. But still, parquet floors have their drawbacks. Such a coating sometimes reminds of itself with a slight creaking, quiet, but terribly unpleasant and causing incredible discomfort to all residents.

Causes of parquet creaking

Parquet, although it belongs to the elite class of flooring, but, unfortunately, there are certain inconveniences that reduce the quality of floor operation. The most common problem is the creaking of parquet, which appears with years of use. Many are interested in how to eliminate the creak of parquet. But, first of all, it is worth finding out the reason for the appearance of this sound. It should immediately be noted that this appears with the old parquet.

Since parquet is made from natural wood, the creak can be considered a payment for the environment. After all, the wood material in itself does not contain any chemical additives that prevent the shrinkage of the material. The creak of the parquet appears in the case when the parquet planks are detached from the base (bituminous mastic, concrete screed, screed with plywood sheets), while there is still friction between them. For the sound, which is called the creak of the parquet, to occur, only minimal movements of the parquet plank are sufficient.

AT separate places due to the fact that moisture evaporates unevenly from the solid parquet board, cavities can accumulate between the base and the parquet itself. It is in such places that parquet begins to “play”. Over time, small debris and dust accumulate there, which aggravate the situation. What other causes of creaking are known besides the detachment of parquet boards from the base and the accumulation of moisture?

Among the reasons for its occurrence, there are also the following: parquet drying out, splitting of parquet planks, breaking of a groove or ridge, loosening of screws and nails, screws and nails coming out of their sockets, movement of the ends and lag of the boards in relation to each other and the absence of a gap near the walls. Thus, the source of the creak is: the friction of the plank on the nail with which it was nailed, the friction of the parquet boards among themselves and the flooring under the parquet flooring.

In order to avoid the creak of parquet of any kind, there are many different ways. However, to begin with, you still have to find the place where the parquet creaks. To do this, walk along the parquet, while remembering the places of the creak. Mark points in the center of each creaking area so that you can later pump glue there.

Usually, the procedure for eliminating the creak of parquet is usually combined with other restoration work, for example, waxing or varnishing. This will allow parquet floor serve more long time, even though the coating could already be used for ten years.

Dismantling of parquet flooring

You can radically remove the creak of the parquet floor by completely replacing such a coating. In this case, it is necessary to carry out a complete dismantling of the parquet strips with the preparation of the base and the next laying of the dismantled parquet, and then carry out sanding, grinding and varnishing.

Such a solution is possible when all the dies or their a large number of. But this process is, of course, at great expense financial and temporary. But with a local creak, it is worth using other "narrowly targeted" methods.

Elimination of cracks and potholes

If the parquet when walking does not just creak the parquet, but a loud crack is heard, this indicates a low level of humidity in the room, or a high temperature - just when laying the wood was somewhat damp, and now it has dried out. It is recommended to putty cracks well in the color of the parquet, and cover the potholes with a large piece of wood putty and apply wood imitation on top.

You can also use a casein adhesive with sawdust. After such simple actions, the parquet flooring should be well sanded and covered with wood varnish.

It is useless to putty on wider cracks - they will crack anyway. Therefore, it is necessary to replace the parquet plank. To do this, select boards that match in color and size from the same wood as the entire parquet.

Restoration of the coating in this case will be as follows. Chop a cracked plank with a chisel or chisel into several pieces. Next, you need to take them out, starting from the middle, and remove the adhesive base. The depression that remains after the removal of the parquet must be carefully cleaned, carefully leveling the base.

Prepare a new plank, cut off the comb from it, carefully grind the cut with a planer. If necessary, it is necessary to cut ridges and grooves from adjacent parquet. If you have to replace several boards that are located nearby, then they should first be fastened together to form a single riveting. You should first make sure that the new plank fits perfectly in place of the old planks.

After that, on the base, which is freed from parquet, pour bituminous mastic, heated to 150-170 degrees, or suitable adhesive composition. Place the riveting on top, remove the excess mastic or glue that flows out. After that, you need to put some kind of load on a new plank. After the mastic or adhesive base has dried, the restored area of the parquet must be sanded, dusted and varnished.

Parquet base repair

If a flat floor creaks, then you need to lay plywood sheets on top of the base on the glue, which has a thickness of 12 millimeters. It is recommended to lay these sheets at an angle to the direction of the main laying of the planks. It is impossible to argue that an unpleasant creak with this option of floor repair will never resume, but it will allow you to get rid of the creak for a long time.

I would like to offer you another option on how to get rid of parquet creaking. However, in this case, it is necessary to take into account what was the base under the parquet. If you laid the parquet floor on bituminous mastic, then in order to eliminate the creak, you can do the following. Take a building hair dryer and use it to melt all the parquet dies so that the bitumen melts under the parquet. Of course, choosing this method, the main thing is not to overdo it, and at the end of the procedure for melting the mastic, you need to firmly press the dies.

Wedge padding

The main reason for the formation of an unpleasant creak is poorly fixed planks to beams or lags. When a person walks on the floor, an unpleasant sound will appear as a result of the friction of the planks against each other. To prevent this friction, it is customary to drive wedges between the board and the beam. If you do not have access to the bottom of the floor, the boards need to be fixed to the joists from above.

If the reason for the creaking of the parquet is the friction of the boards among themselves, you can drive wedges into the cracks, maintaining a step of 15-20 centimeters. It is important to ensure that these wedges do not protrude to the floor level. For this procedure, you will need: wooden wedges (of course), a hammer and a piece of metal bar or punch. There is another technique to eliminate the creak of wooden floors - to fill the gaps between the boards with talc or graphite powder.

Filling with adhesive

To eliminate the creak yourself, you will need the following tools and materials: an electric drill, a drill that has a diameter of 2 millimeters, a medical syringe, masking tape, rags, wax crayons, dowels and polyurethane glue.

Fastening with glue is as follows. Mark the points in the center of the defective places of the parquet that will be 15 centimeters apart from each other, and stick masking tape on them. Make through holes in the planks with a diameter of about 2 millimeters in the marked places and pour glue between the parquet and the floor base through the holes using a syringe.

Then you need to let the glue dry for an hour, after which you can remove the adhesive tape. If traces of glue suddenly get on the parquet, you can use a solvent intended for mounting foam. Press the parquet to the subfloor with a heavy weight and try not to walk on the repaired areas.

In advance, it is worth choosing wax crayons to match the color of your parquet and a day after the repair work fill holes with wax. Complete the work by polishing the parquet floor with a rag.

Use of cement mortar

Drill a hole with a diameter of 1.6-2 centimeters in the floor with a perforator, and then pour cement mortar or heated bitumen into the middle in such a way that the creaking bar “leans” on the solution. It is again necessary to hammer the cork into this very hole and paint over it so that traces are not noticeable.

The same way to remove the creak of parquet is effective if the hole is drilled against the lag: at the same time, a solution of cement milk is poured into the hole from a ratio of 1: 1 (cement - water), and after a day a wooden pin is glued into the hole so that it ends got the floor slab. You can remove the remnants of the pin by leveling it with the parquet flooring, clean it, apply putty and paint over it.

You can also drill holes slightly smaller than the first time, and use liquid nails instead of the used dowel with a screw. This allows you to glue the planks to the base in such a way that they stop creaking, but in this case you should also putty drilled holes with wood putty.

Douche in the parquet floor

Another method of eliminating the creak of a parquet floor is the use of a lubricant composition made on the basis of wax with the addition of a certain amount of a special solvent. A similar technique involves the introduction of a substance under the parquet with the help of micro-holes by means of douching. In addition, there is another way, which is associated with the use of water lubrication, which will also be supplied under pressure into the cavity under the parquet.

Pouring polyurethane foam

As a rule, the underground space has a height of approximately 9 centimeters, therefore, to eliminate the unpleasant creaking of the boards, you can use mounting foam - after expansion, it will stiffen the flooring. However, the foam can slip during operation, and then collapse, which will provoke the resumption of creaking. Thus, this is a rather costly way to remove parquet creaking, and not very effective.

Use of metal anchors

If the parquet floor is based on a concrete slab, you can use metal anchors, which are attached exclusively by hand. First, it is customary to drill a small hole, install a metal shell and screw in the anchor stud. This method, of course, is effective for eliminating the creak of a parquet floor, however, it is also costly, because repairs may require up to 200 anchors at a cost of 10-15 rubles each.

Broach with self-tapping screws

Enough effective method the fight against the creak of parquet, which occurs directly at the points of contact between the floorboard and the log, is broached with self-tapping screws. The most problematic thing with this technique is finding the lag.

You must determine if there are any communications under the defective floorboard. The whole procedure is a twisting of 2-3 self-tapping screws into the board. Using a drill, a hole is drilled on one side of the floorboard into a beam or log through the board. You need to drive a nail into it or, much better, screw in a screw of the appropriate size. At the same time, pay attention to the head of a nail or screw - you need to drown it in the board.

Stretching parquet floor

If you have not yet decided what to do when the parquet creaks, try paying attention to the following procedure. Contraction, although it is a rather laborious process of eliminating a defect, is at the same time cheap. This method involves rechecking the state of the lag and the entire floorboard using the method of enumeration. If defects are found, the boards must be corrected or replaced.

The effectiveness of the method lies in the replacement of all nails with self-tapping screws - this procedure is called "tightening". Self-tapping screws are deprived of the main drawback that is inherent in nails - a creak in the areas of their connection with the tree.

The nail in the wood will be held by its split layers, tightly covering the metal. But over time, the metal, due to the weakening of the grip, begins to rust and decrease in diameter. As a result, a backlash is formed and, as a result, a sound appears. That's why the parquet creaks. Thus, replacing nails with self-tapping screws successfully solves all the problems of parquet floor creaking.

After the completion of these manipulations for fixing the parquet, it is necessary to sand the puttied areas and cover them with wax or varnish, which match the color of the rest of the parquet flooring.

All of the above methods to eliminate the squeak of the parquet floor are quite simple, but if all your attempts fail, and the parquet continues to creak, then you will only have two options: call a special company that can help get rid of the creak of the parquet, but this is for you it will cost a lot, or choose the second option - dismantle the old parquet floor and lay the planks again.

Parquet is considered the most popular material for flooring. Many choose it due to aesthetics, environmental friendliness. However, wood is more susceptible to environmental damage than other floor coverings. So, for example, over time, it may begin to make an unpleasant sound. And then the question arises, what to do if the parquet creaks?

The main reasons for the appearance of a creak on the parquet

Wood is considered a fairly durable material, but is extremely sensitive to changes during external environment. Later certain time the parquet begins to emit an unpleasant creak.
Many reasons can affect this:

 • defect in the base of the floor;
 • use of too thin shock-absorbing substrate;
 • defective parquet beams.

Errors when laying parquet

Failure to comply with the parquet laying technology is considered the most common cause of parquet creaking. This usually results from the lack expansion joints, namely, a small gap, the distance between the wall and the parquet. Some of the most common parquet flooring mistakes include:

 1. Uneven base. Most often, a cement screed is used to subfloor. Before laying it, it is important to ensure that the floor is carefully leveled, all debris must be removed from the surface.
 2. Defects cross beams and their location. This is the frame of the future floor, so the logs must be strong. They require careful installation.
 3. Lack of vapor barrier. It protects the wood from harmful effects condensate. It is placed between the screed and the substrate.
 4. No backing or using the wrong backing material. Intermediate material is used to avoid contact between the coating and the floor. Otherwise, you will be annoyed by an unpleasant crunch, constant creaking or other extraneous sounds. The use of a thick substrate can lead to backlash, parquet board locks are not designed for such a load.
 5. Shrinkage or swelling of the parquet board from high humidity. Wet or dry boards warp on their own. Therefore, when buying flooring material, it is important to monitor the quality of the packaging.
 6. Failure to comply with the required humidity regime in room. A tree tends to change shape over time under the influence of changes in temperature and moisture. Because of this, parquet planks may increase or decrease in size. If during the laying of the flooring you do not leave gaps or make them too small, then the parquet that has swollen from moisture will begin to rest against the wall. This will cause an unpleasant creaking with any pressure on the flooring.
 7. Laying in violation of the basic requirements on the formation of the structure. Often referred to here too long distance between the elements, rare fasteners, poor-quality support, lack of waterproofing. To correct this error, you must completely dismantle the floor and look for the causes of the creak.

In addition, creaking can cause parquet with end latches. During the laying process, the rows of such parquet are displaced due to the snapping of the locks. As a result, the planks begin to rest against the wall and make an unpleasant sound.

wood properties

Parquet is not suitable for every room. Often it starts to creak due to the wrong type of wood. So, for example, if you plan to lay the material in a room with high humidity, then it is recommended to choose larch or ash.

If it is planned to install a heating system under the coating, it is highly undesirable to use beech or maple for this purpose, since such wood is most actively deformed. According to the manufacturers themselves, this is the most common cause why the parquet in the apartment creaks. You should also monitor the level of humidity. In winter, when the heating is turned on, the level of moisture in the room decreases, the planks dry out and begin to creak. AT this case you should use special humidifiers.

Parquet wear

Over time, any coating ages and requires replacement or restoration.
As a result of long-term use of parquet:

 • wooden planks dry out and twist out, supporting logs and plywood are destroyed;
 • lining material sags;
 • elements of the old parquet are peeled off;
 • fasteners of nails, studs, self-tapping screws are loosened and fall out.

Methods for eliminating parquet creaking

If the coating was laid in a floating way, then eliminating the creak is quite simple. If you ask what to do so that the parquet does not creak, then for this you need to dismantle the skirting boards and remove the material. The next step is to repair the base. Places where depressions are found must be leveled with cement or a quick-drying mixture. And places with an elevation must be carefully cut off.

Wedge tapping method

For this, wooden wedges are used, which are knocked out at the bottom, between loosely attached beams and boards. This method prevents friction between them. To work, you will need a hammer, a doboynik and wooden wedges. If the old parquet creaks due to the friction of the boards with each other, drive wedges into the cracks, keep a step of 15-20 cm. Make sure that these wedges do not protrude above the floor level.

Mounting foam

This method will also help solve the problem of how to eliminate parquet creaking indiscriminately. Mounting foam is poured into the coating. But this method is resorted to only if the underground space occupies no more than 9 cm. The voids of the floor covering are filled through the cracks. Penetrating inside, the material expands, then hardens, the planks are thereby glued, and the unpleasant creak of the parquet is eliminated. This method increases the rigidity of the floor.

This method is not the most economical, since mounting foam is very expensive. Besides that, it's not the most practical solution problems, since the foam only works for a certain time. Over time, under the influence of loads, the material begins to sag, which again raises the question of how to remove the creak of the old parquet.

Broach with self-tapping screws

This option is considered the most budgetary. They resort to it if the parquet board begins to creak at the point of contact between the boards and the log. At the same time, it is important to find the lags and make sure that there are no means of communication under the defective floorboard.
The process goes like this:

 • in a defective floorboard, a hole is drilled through the board into the beam;
 • then a self-tapping screw of the appropriate size is screwed into it.

Important: When screwing in a self-tapping screw, the screw head must be recessed into the board.

Formation of expansion joints

When laying parquet, the expansion joint must be at least 10-15 mm. Its absence or small width can lead to the fact that the parquet planks, expanding under the influence external factors will begin to press against each other and cause an unpleasant sound. Such a violation of laying technology is quite easy to eliminate.

Remove the plinth around the entire perimeter of the room, cut it off with cutting tool the edge of the lamella to the required width (up to 10 mm). If there are swollen areas, boards with damaged locks must be replaced. Or it is allowed to partially sort out the floor by adding fixing elements. The main thing is to do it in a timely manner, until the dies are severely deformed.

douching

This method allows you to get rid of the creak of parquet without the need for parsing. This douching will require a lubricant composition based on liquid wax and a special solvent. The finished substance must be injected with a syringe under the creaky parquet using micro-holes. You can also use water based lubricant. It must be injected under pressure into the cavity between the base and the parquet.

Squeak prevention

Instead of repairing the flooring, it is better to try to prevent damage to it. Parquet is based on natural canvases, so they initially require special care and installation. If you follow the instructions and technologies at each stage, you will preserve the quality and service life of parquet for a long time:

 1. Strictly and step by step follow the installation instructions. The floors must be perfectly even, it is necessary to take into account waterproofing, thermal insulation, a layer between the concrete base and parquet, provide 4 protective layers.
 2. Choose only quality material. There should be no cracks or knots on the surface of the selected parquet. Before buying, you should measure the level of humidity in the planks, request a certificate for the products. Buy parquet only from trusted major sellers. Choose an adhesive and backing that meets all regulatory requirements.
 3. Almost any floor covering is made with technical gaps from the walls. Pay close attention to this step before you start fixing the baseboards.
 4. Observe the conditions of the microclimate in the apartment. This will prevent drying and swelling of the floorboards. If the air level in a room with parquet flooring is too dry, a humidifier should be installed there. In cold seasons, provide a heating system.
 5. Once every three months, it is required to carry out grinding and updating the varnish layer.
 6. Do not allow moisture to enter the floor surface. In case of spillage of liquid on the floor, it is necessary to immediately get rid of it with a dry cloth.
 7. Clean the room with a damp cloth, not a wet one.

The classic never gets old. Despite the fact that you can now find a huge number of modern flooring in stores, many people choose ordinary parquet. It has many advantages, but it is also quite difficult to care for it. The most common problem with parquet is abrasion (treated by sanding and varnishing) and creaking. We will tell you about the main causes of creaking and how to restore old parquet so that it does not cause discomfort.

Parquet is considered one of the most beautiful and practical floor coverings. But over the years, it wears out and begins to creak. Do you want to fix this problem? Determine what is causing the creak.

You can eliminate the creak of parquet by filling the cracks

Wood tends to dry out. Over time, excess moisture comes out of it and the boards become smaller, as a result of which gaps appear between them. Under pressure, the lamellas slightly bend and rub against each other, as a result of which a creak occurs. Also, parquet can creak due to a loose fit to the surface. Especially if you use plywood or concrete screed as the base. In order for a creak to appear, a gap between the materials of half a millimeter is enough. The surface begins to play, particles of sand fall into the cracks and the creak becomes stronger.

Another reason for the squeak is a broken plank (even a non-through crack is enough), breaking the lamella crest, unscrewing the fastening screws and nails.

Note:parquet can creak due to improper installation. The most common cause of creaking is the lack of a thermal seam along the perimeter of the room and uneven heating (in the case of a warm floor or a fireplace in the room).

You need to define the squeak area - usually it is not very large. Highlight it with chalk, find the center of the creaking area and evaluate the condition of the parquet in this place.

Parquet dismantling

If the parquet bad condition(started to rot, infected with bugs, swollen from moisture or worn out by a few millimeters), it is best to resort to a radical method and dismantle part of the coating, replacing it with a new one. Remember that when dismantling, you will have to scrape the entire surface and re-varnish the entire room. This method is usually used when overhaul floors in apartments and houses, as it is associated with serious costs.

You need to remove the die in parts, splitting it with a chisel

Removing small potholes

How to remove the creak of parquet if it has only small cracks and dents? Very simple - putty the surface with a special putty for parquet or wood. It will fill all the cracks and the lamellas will no longer rub against each other.Another option for filling cracks is casein glue mixed with sawdust. It is poured into all problem areas, and after drying, they putty well and cover the surface. protective varnish. If the gaps between the panels are more than 4-5 mm, then pouring glue is useless - it will dry out anyway. In this case, you will have to remove the lamella and insert a wider one in its place.

Note:the insertion of new lamellas is also practiced in case of local damage (in places near the door, under the batteries, etc.). Choose boards from the same type of wood and the same color as the existing parquet.

Before laying, you will need to cut the comb from the lamella and try it on the existing hole. It should fit snugly into it without any gaps. Then apply hot bituminous mastic or glue to the base and lay the plank. After a day, sand the surface and varnish it.

How to repair the base

If the creak occurs due to the punching of the subfloor (boards), then you cannot do without repairing the base. It is done in the following sequence:

 1. Remove all existing parquet.
 2. Tighten the boards with screws or nails.
 3. Treat the boards with an antiseptic and flame retardant.
 4. Lay plywood with a thickness of at least 12 mm treated with an antiseptic on the base.
 5. Fix it to the boards with self-tapping screws, sinking their heads by 2-3 mm. It is recommended to lay sheets at an angle of 30-40 degrees to the future location of the parquet.

If the parquet board was laid on mastic, then the creak can be eliminated with a building hair dryer. Warm up the problem areas thoroughly - the mastic will soften and tightly wrap around the boards.

Note:when heating with a hair dryer, be prudent. Bitumen melts at a temperature of 160 degrees, and the hair dryer gives out up to 600. After warming up, be sure to press down the dies so that they get stuck in the plastic mass.

How else can you do elimination of parquet squeak on a poor basis? A creak can occur due to the fact that the board does not fit snugly against the log. If you can get to the joist, drive a wooden wedge between it and the board. If not, then screw a few additional screws into the beam, pressing it as tightly as possible. If the boards creak from friction against each other, then this situation can be corrected by pouring talcum powder between them.

You can strengthen the creaking parquet with nails or studs.

Use of glue

The most common way to eliminate creaking is considered to be glue. It is well suited for both parquet and subfloor. You will need the following set of tools:

 • drill;
 • drill with a diameter of not more than 2 mm;
 • masking tape;
 • rags;
 • syringe;
 • polyurethane adhesive.

Circle the creaking places with chalk. Find their center, seal the surface with adhesive tape, and then, in increments of 10-15 centimeters, drill holes in the lamellas at an angle of 40-50 degrees. Then draw glue into the syringe and inject it into the holes until it is completely filled. Remove excess adhesive immediately with a damp cloth. Drill marks can be removed with regular wax crayons and polish.

Use of foam

This method can be useful in apartments - where on concrete slab logs are laid and boards on top of them. Usually, a gap of 5-7 cm wide remains between the concrete and the boards. To insulate the surface and remove the causes of the creak, you can fill this space with ordinary mounting foam. To save money, you can invite specialists who are engaged in the insulation of houses with foam. This option will come out 3-5 times cheaper than using conventional cylinders. The foam, solidifying, increases in volume and supports the floor from below, filling all the cracks. As a result, you will get a very warm and strong base that will not creak when walking.

Pulling parquet slats

We dealt with the repair of the base in the examples above. Now let's look at what to do if creaking parquet. There are two options:

 1. Pull off the creaking lamellas with special studs (nails without a hat).
 2. Drill the lamellas and pour glue under them.

After repair work, scrape and varnish the parquet

Pulling is more efficient. To do this, you need to take a drill with a diameter 2 times thinner than the stud and drill a hole with it in the end of the die at an angle. Then, using a hammer, carefully drive the pin into the hole until it stops and deepen it a little with a tip. This will press the lamella and it will stop playing. But if the plank is loose and loose, then it is better to remove it and insert a new one in its place.
