We create the world with our own hands

How to make a garden in a bottle This question opens the way for you to one of the exciting activities. To create a flowering masterpiece in specialized stores, you need to buy:

  • glass container;
  • drainage, a couple of sheets of cardboard;
  • packaging of tablets activated carbon;
  • priming;
  • plants;
  • decor items.

The more unusual the vessel, the better.

One of key points- choice of capacity. It can be an unusually shaped bottle with a wide neck and a tight-fitting lid. You can choose a tall bulky glass, a decanter, a vase, a jar, and even an old aquarium - any container from clear glass.

We give the aquarium a second life

Drainage, in addition to its direct purpose in the bottle garden, carries a large decorative load. It should be chosen taking into account the general design ideas and aesthetics. Coarse sand looks good, shell rock looks original, you can use expanded clay or brightly colored decorative stones.

Soil for flowers should be bought in a minimum amount. The container is only a quarter full. Activated carbon - good antiseptic, it is useful for compositions planted in a closed vessel.

When choosing decor items, we are limited only by our own imagination. Most often, stones, shells, sand, branches, moss, decorative figures of people and animals are used.

Special attention - "planting material"

Plants for the garden in a bottle choose by the following parameters:

  • small root system(the place in the closed space is limited);
  • minimum dimensions;
  • love for high humidity;
  • unpretentious.

It is better to give preference to decorative leaves. Flowering plants require the removal of wilted flowers and fallen leaves, which is quite difficult to do through the narrow neck of the bottle.

We think over the composition for a mini-garden

The most impressive in glass containers looks Variegata, calamus cereal. Its height is 25 cm, it grows slowly, tolerates the lack of moisture perfectly. Its creamy green leaves will brighten up any mini landscape.

Look good in glass varieties of begonias royal s small leaves. Plant height 15 cm, it is placed, as a rule, in the center of the composition.

An ideal plant for mini-greenhouses is graceful hamedorea. This beautiful, slow growing palm tree with graceful leaves and slender stems will brighten up any garden.

For small containers, bromeliad cryptanthus is ideal. Its height is only 8 cm, while it has beautiful rosettes of leaves, green with small white patches at the bottom.

Often, a low, slender Sander dracaena is used for a garden in a bottle. Its unusual narrow leaves with large white spots immediately attract attention.

Different varieties of fern look good in undersized compositions. Especially popular are pteris xiphoid Victoria, maidenhair Ruddy, round-leaved pellet, and fine-haired maidenhair. Their beautiful greenery is ideal for creating "out of this world" landscapes.

Fittonia Verschaffelt is another plant that loves moist air and feels great in a closed glass vessel. She has unusual leaves: olive green with red veins. Her "friend" silver-veined Fittonia has white streaks on bright green leaves. Both beauties are very miniature: the height is only 7.5 cm.

Capricious arrowroot in a mini-greenhouse feels great. Its creeping stems and black-spotted green leaves look great behind glass.

You can use Spetchley ivy, Little Diamond or Tre Coupe. Its tiny leaves are very decorative in vertical gardening mini garden.

Pellionia beautiful is also often found in florariums. Its creeping reddish stems combined with dark green beautiful leaves look very unusual.

Pilea Kadie has a dwarf variety - Nana. It is valued for its unusual silvery specks on green leaves.

For decorative coating soil, you can plant Salaginella Krausa. Its small leaves resemble moss from afar. Against its background, the whole composition looks exceptional.

Other plants can also be used. The choice depends on the overall design idea. However, it should be remembered that only undersized varieties are suitable for growing in a limited space of a glass vessel, the height of plants should not exceed 20 cm. In addition, the “pets” you have chosen should love a humid “climate”.

Mini greenhouse tool

To make a garden in a bottle with your own hands, you can’t do without an improvised tool. After all, all the work will have to be done through a fairly narrow neck of the bottle. We will need:

  • a teaspoon fixed on a long handle will act as a scoop;
  • a sharp blade fixed on a handle of a suitable size - the plants will need to be cut;
  • "press" for compacting the earth - an empty spool of thread, mounted on a convenient handle;
  • two long sticks - for picking up, transferring, planting plants;
  • a sponge for wiping the vessel from the inside;
  • small sprayer.

Technology for creating a florarium

We take a glass vessel. The more original it is, the more attractive the composition will turn out.

Pour drainage at the bottom. If an uneven “relief” is conceived, then a mouthpiece from a thick sheet of paper should be placed in the neck of the bottle, with the narrow end inward. With it, you can easily form hills and even real hills.

Now we pour a thin layer of charcoal or lay out activated charcoal tablets, this will protect our mini garden in a bottle from pathogenic bacteria, mold and waterlogging.

Now add a layer fertile soil. In order to be sure that the plants receive all the necessary nutrients, the soil should be bought ready-made in specialized stores, based on what flowers you will plant. Soil volume - directly depends on how deeply the plants you have chosen are rooted. In any case, drainage, coal and earth should not occupy more than ¼ of the vessel. We level the layer, slightly “tamp down” using the “press” - an empty spool of thread on a long handle. You need to work as carefully as possible so that the walls of the container remain clean. If it doesn’t work, wet the sponge, attach it to a comfortable handle and wipe the glass thoroughly. Its purity is the key to good plant growth. And the beauty of the composition, of course.

We proceed to the most important thing - we plant flowers and place decor elements. For planting, we use an ordinary fork and spoon. We make indentations with a spoon, transfer the plants with a fork and bury the roots. Don't be discouraged if you don't succeed on the first try. A little patience - and you will succeed. little secret. If the roots of the "seedlings" are too powerful, they should be ruthlessly cut off. This will stop the growth of plants, and also allow them to be planted with minimal losses. "Landing" and the soil is wetted from the spray gun. We make sure that the spray is microscopic, in no case do we use jet irrigation.

We wipe the walls of the container with a sponge, close it tightly with a lid.

Most often, the florarium compositions are made up of 1-3 plants. If you want to plant more, take a larger vessel. For example, an old aquarium. See what the garden in a bottle looks like in the photo below.

Caring for a mini-garden in a test tube

Flowers in a bottle garden do not require special care. Abundant condensate sometimes appears on the walls of the vessel. This is fine. Be sure to open the lid and dry. Strongly overgrown plants need to be cut from time to time so that the composition does not lose its aesthetic appearance. Due to the fact that a special ecosystem is formed behind the glass, watering should be kept to a minimum. In most cases, the moisture that the leaves evaporate is enough for plants.

For growth and proper development plants need light. If the florarium is located in a poorly lit place, additional light sources should be considered. The best solution- Fluorescent Lamp. She doesn't give great warmth, which means it will not dry out the garden "residents".

A garden in a bottle is a great alternative to growing indoor flowers on the windowsill. It is beautiful and unusual, besides, thanks to the closed ecosystem, it calmly “endures” the long absence of its owner.

Growing at home tropical plants can sometimes be a daunting task. Many "exotics" require high humidity, warmth and lack of drafts. It was this feature of the tender ferns, which were incredibly popular in 19th century Europe, that led the British to look for ways to artificially recreate the climate of the humid tropics. And the solution was found! It turned out to be Ward's box, which is a box with walls made of sheet glass connected by metal strips. sunlight perfectly penetrated the Ward box, which cannot be said about the air, the access of which was limited. Due to the fact that the water in a closed vessel did not evaporate to the outside, but settled on the walls and plants, a constant high humidity. This allowed the enterprising English to grow many exotic plants: ferns, orchids, bromeliads, etc.

The invention of Ward's box turned out to be so successful that it has not been forgotten even now. Modern florists, wanting to grow whimsical tropical plants, place them in transparent vessels - florariums. Such a composition is called a "garden in a bottle", although the container used is not necessarily an ordinary bottle. Is it possible to make a garden in a bottle with your own hands? Yes, easily - just arm yourself with a suitable vessel and pick up plants for the composition.

When looking for a suitable vessel, you can give free rein to your imagination. Any sufficiently capacious container with a tapering neck and an expanding bottom will do. It can be a large bottle of wine or chemical liquids, a round aquarium, a jar for bulk products. For plants that prefer maximum humidity, you should select a container with the possibility of hermetic clogging.

In this case, the narrower the neck, the more humid the microclimate can be achieved. However, the neck should allow you to perform procedures for caring for the internal contents - loosen the ground, remove dead plants or their rotten parts. Inside a non-hermetic florarium (an aquarium or a bottle without a cork), the humidity will be lower due to constant ventilation.

It is easier to grow plants in open florariums - constant ventilation reduces the chances of decay

Choosing plants for the garden in a bottle

When looking for plants for a mini-garden, preference should be given to small, non-growth-prone species. Otherwise, after a few months, the large-sized unit will outgrow the capacity and will either have to be cut or replaced with a new one.

Since a garden in a bottle serves as a decoration, it is undesirable to fill it halfway. soil mixture. The soil should occupy no more than ¼ of the volume of the bottle, and even less is better. Therefore, florarium plants should have a small surface root system that does not require a lot of soil.

Moisture-loving violets with a small root system - a good choice for the garden in a bottle

In a glass greenhouse, regardless of whether it is completely closed or not, the air humidity is increased. This means that only moisture-loving plants accustomed to tropical rains or marshy soils can feel good in it. Obviously, it would be reckless to grow desert cacti in a bottle garden - the probability of their decay is too high.

The easiest way to cultivate decorative leafy plants in an airtight bottle. flowering species it is worth growing in a container with an open neck or a round aquarium without a lid, removing faded flowers in a timely manner so that they do not start to rot. Among these flowering plants for a garden in a bottle, orchids and saintpaulias have already become traditional. Fittonias, ferns, ivy, chlorophytums, pellets, royal begonias, bromeliads, some dracaenas and dwarf ficuses, mosses, etc. are also suitable for "green" compositions.

Making a mini greenhouse under glass

Step 1. We prepare the substrate for planting

We lay a drainage layer 1-2 cm thick at the bottom of the selected container. It can be expanded clay, small pebbles or crushed stone. Then we pour the soil substrate mixed with charcoal (activated carbon can be used) with a layer of 5-10 cm. Coal is needed as a disinfectant, antiseptic to prevent root rot. As for the substrate, it should be light and breathable. No clay and heavy soils! The roots of plants in a bottle garden need to "breathe".

Step 2. Planting plants

Using a teaspoon, fork or spatula, we make indentations in the substrate and carefully plant the plants. If the neck of the bottle is too narrow, then it is most convenient to use large medical tweezers to place the plants.

Between plants, you can place several unusual stones, ornate snags, suitable for composition garden figurines. Such an imitation of the natural landscape will make a mini garden in a bottle a full-fledged alternative to a real garden.

Step 4. Caring for a garden in a bottle

After the plants are planted, it's time for the first watering. Spill the soil carefully - in this matter, it is important to observe the measure so that excess water does not stagnate for a long time in the drainage layer.

Close the sealed bottle garden with a lid or cork. After some time, condensation may form on the walls of the vessel - this means that waterlogging has occurred. Drops on the walls should be wiped off and the lid of the vessel should be opened for a while. Once the condensate has been removed, the bottle garden requires virtually no special care. Sometimes (in the summer - about once a week) the lid will have to be opened and the plants sprayed. At the same time, the humid climate will be preserved.

If the bottle garden does not close, then it will have to be watered more often. In any case, with the right composition of slow-growing plants, a bottle garden will retain its decorative effect for a long time with little or no effort on your part. Of course, florarium plants will not be as unpretentious as artificial ones. plastic flowers from bottles for the garden. However, you can afford to leave for a week, without fear that the plants will die without watering.

Bottle garden options

We have selected for you a few examples of how you can decorate a garden in a bottle (photo) - we hope they will inspire you to create your own mini greenhouse.

Florariums in the design of the living room

How to make your room original, how to revive the interior? The task becomes even more difficult if the room is not too spacious. One of the solutions to this problem will be bottle garden. Such mini-greenhouses are also called "florarium", "garden under glass" - compositions of fresh flowers placed in various glass containers. Creating a miniature garden under glass can be not only a pleasant pastime, but also a stress reliever. In addition, growing plants in glass containers can turn from a hobby into a profession. After all, mini-greenhouses are currently in demand. If you have ever failed to fulfill your dream of becoming landscape designer then the time to do it is now! The only difference is in the area of the created composition.

Making a bottle garden is easy

Choosing a container for our garden.

Here you can use whatever comes to your mind. Of course, think in advance - where the florarium will stand - it can be suspended, table or floor. Based on this, choose a vessel. It can be a glass of champagne or a huge aquarium.

How more unusual form vessel, the more interesting your composition will be.

If you decide to make a greenhouse in a bottle with a narrow neck, then get ready for the fact that caring for the florarium will be a little more difficult.

So, take a look around - maybe a decanter or a flask from a chemistry room is empty in vain?

What tools will you need to create a garden under glass?

  1. Long tweezers - for a florarium with a narrow neck.
  2. Scalpel or very sharp knife (sometimes you need to prune the flowers).
  3. Spoon or other device for creating holes.
  4. Mini - rake, or fork for leveling the ground.
  5. A device for compacting the soil (a spool of thread or a wine cork, mounted on a long stick)
  6. Sponge to wipe the walls of the vessel.
  7. Spray gun for irrigation of florarium.
  8. Prepare long sticks or knitting needles to which you attach your mini-tools to make it easier to reach the target if it is impossible to reach your hand into your garden.
  9. In the event that the greenhouse is completely closed, then you need to take care of the hygrometer and thermometer.

Preparing the soil for the florarium

The most important thing is drainage. Here you can use expanded clay, fine coarse sand, shell rock. Keep in mind that our container is transparent, and drainage can also serve as a decor.

The soil for the garden can be different - it all depends on what plants you will plant. It is best to purchase ready-made soil for flowers in a specialized store. It is poured in a layer of 5 to 10 cm.

If you plan to create a garden in a bottle with a very narrow neck, or completely closed, in this case it is necessary to prepare activated (charcoal) charcoal (1 cm above the drainage is enough). He will eliminate unpleasant odors in case of excess condensate.

It is possible to use hydrogel balls instead of soil. In this case, it will not be necessary to water the plants, respectively, there will be no need for a drainage layer.

Selection of flowers for the bottle garden

Here you need to take into account many nuances:

For example, several color options for our greenhouse.

** Shade-loving: forest cactus, fern, Decembrist.
** “Loving the sun”: bromeliads, orchids (but you can’t put it under the direct rays of the sun!)
** Moisture-loving: violets, graceful fittonia.
** In the "dry" garden we plant: cacti, succulents, jade, agave.

One of the favorite plants for a greenhouse in a bottle are azalea and begonia with small leaves. Their huge variety will help decorate any florarium. Usually capricious arrowroot, grow well in the garden under glass.

You can be original and create a real terrarium - plant carnivorous plants - sarracenia or sundew, just do not forget to feed them with live insects. Such flowers are ideal for greenhouse conditions.

** Any bottle garden can be decorated with grass calamus or graceful hamedorea.

** Salaginella Krausa will help imitate moss.

All plants for a mini-garden in glass share the same parameters: unpretentiousness, shallow root system, height up to 25 cm, slow growth.

If your greenhouse is of considerable size, then the flowers can be displayed in pots, creating for them different levels in height.

If you have already decided that bottle garden- this is it, then take into account a few ideas for themed decoration:

1. For a high florarium, prepare more pebbles, stones to build alpine slide in miniature. Ivy will be a wonderful decoration.

2. If you choose moisture-loving plants, you can create a real jungle in the middle of your apartment. The garden container is fully planted. The main plant can be a palm tree, in addition, a coleus, a pilea.

3. Subject composition. There is no limit to fantasy here. It all depends on what decorative elements you will find for a bottle garden. These can be animals on a farm, birds and insects in a river or swamp, small houses and gnomes, boats, wells ... etc. The size of such a garden can be different.

4. Garden for one plant. This flower can be brightly blooming like a violet or an azalea, or it can look like a "ship of the desert" when planted in sandy soil one cactus, sansevier or stone flowers.

Creating a garden under glass does not take much time. Caring for him is also no more difficult than for. Such a bottle garden even has its advantages: in the created microclimate, it will perfectly survive your long absence.

And, of course, the florarium is a real highlight of any interior!

Now watch this video tutorial from experienced designers on how to create a garden under glass.

Let's focus today on those that have one general detail: they do not grow in a pot and not in a flower bed. "Home" for these gardens are any glass (rarely plastic) containers, from a glass to a window showcase. These are florariums, unusually beautiful compositions from flowers in transparent vessels. About them and about their varieties - our material.

Florariums are of two types - open and closed. Let's say right away that it is closed - these are real florariums. But open - not quite. Strange as it may seem, but by placing the plants in a glass vessel, it is not only possible, but also necessary to close the lid. And this is the essence of the florarium, in fact, a mini-greenhouse. Plants grown as indoor plants, for the most part, are guests from the tropics. So, you should not be surprised why they die on the windowsill in direct sunlight, in a draft and above the radiator.

Most topical plants need a temperature of at least 20-22 ° C, lighting up to 12 hours of light per day without direct solar radiation. And most importantly, the humidity of the air is not lower than 65%, and much higher is better. All these conditions can be obtained in a closed florarium ecosystem.

Historically, florariums were glass boxes used to transport tropical plants to England in the early 19th century. They are called "Ward boxes" after the inventor, Dr. Nathaniel Bagshaw Ward. It was he who first noticed that ferns do not take root in the British climate, but feel great in a closed glass container. Then the fashion for showcase windows began, inside which real tropical gardens grew.

A modern florarium in the form in which it is offered by specialists is also glass showcase any size - from an aquarium to a whole interior partition. Usually in such containers, plants are planted in pots separately, and the space between them is filled with peat or moss. The width of the base of such showcases is usually 50-80 cm. To maintain a constant temperature and air humidity, florariums are equipped with at least a fan, artificial lighting, heater. As a maximum - "smart" climate system, which allows you to remotely control the level of illumination, temperature and humidity in your home or office "jungle".

It is much easier from a technical (and material!) point of view to create with my own hands a mini-garden in a small glass vessel - a small round aquarium, a flask, a vase, a jar, a bottle, even a test tube!

How to create your own small florarium?

Garden in a bottle

The smaller the neck of the vessel in which the plants are planted, the more interesting and surprising the florarium looks. But the more difficult it is to create and care for him. With a garden, for example, in a wide vase, everything is clear. Bottled mini-gardens raise much more questions.

The first thing you need is to get the tools. You will need gardening Tools in miniature, equipped with elongated handles (as an option - sticks from a Chinese restaurant): scoop - can be made from a teaspoon; narrow and long knife for cutting shoots; two wooden sticks to move plants inside the vessel; a device for cleaning glass - a cotton swab, a sponge fixed on a long handle; tool for compacting the earth (wooden coil); a watering can with a long spout and a small spray bottle.

1. Ground preparation
There should not be much soil in the florarium - about a quarter of the vessel. It consists of three parts: drainage, a layer of charcoal, flower soil. The ratio of the drainage layer to the flower soil is 1:2 or 1:3.

Fine gravel, expanded clay, shell rock, coarse coarse sand, brightly colored stones are suitable as drainage. For individual cultures, perlite, vermiculite, hydrogel are used.

The next thin layer is charcoal or simply crushed activated charcoal tablets. Coal has excellent disinfecting properties, which is very important in a closed vessel with high humidity.

Fertile soil is the main layer. Flower soil is best purchased ready-made, based on the plants that you intend to plant.

It is better to fill the soil in a bottle with a paper funnel. Then the soil layer is compacted.

2. Selection and planting of plants

After the soil is ready, you can plant plants. This should be done with long sticks. First, small holes are dug in the ground with a spatula-spoon.

Most main question beginner mini-gardeners: what plants to plant in the florarium? There are a few basic requirements here:
- small size of adult plants - no more than 20 cm;
- small root system;
- love for high humidity;
- unpretentiousness.

It is better to dwell on decorative leafy plants - fallen flowers cause unnecessary trouble. You can combine tree and creeping plants in one composition. You should not plant cacti in the florarium - they will not tolerate air humidity close to 100%.

Ferns, arrowroot, calathea, caladium, fittonia, cryptanthus, selaginell, calamus, royal begonia (small-leaved), dracaena, weaving saxifrage, cryptanthus, guarantor, peperomia, pilea, common ivy, dwarf ficuses, senpolia and dieffenbachia, alocasia are ideal for the florarium , bromeliad, azalea, cyclamen, graceful calamus and other plants. You can decorate the florarium with one plant, for example, an orchid. Then it will be called an orchidarium.

Florariums can be decorated to your liking, like others miniature gardens creating extraordinary compositions. For example, make paths from stones, put miniature lanterns and furniture, arrange figures of people and animals.

4. Garden care

Caring for the florarium is very simple. After planting the plants, you need to water the garden a little with a watering can with a narrow and long spout and close the lid. After that, condensation will definitely appear in the bottle. Then the lid must be opened and the vessel ventilated for some time. The lid is then tightly closed again. Do not be afraid that the plant will "suffocate" - it produces the optimal amount of oxygen for itself. And he has enough moisture.

In a closed vessel, a natural cycle of water occurs: at night the vessel cools down and it is quite normal if condensation is noticeable on the glass in the morning. During the day, moisture falls into the soil. But the absence of condensate with an increase in air temperature around the florarium is a sign of a lack of moisture. So you need to water the florarium every few months if the condensate has stopped appearing on the walls of the vessel. It is better to water with melt or rain water. Also, do not forget to wipe the walls of the vessel, remove diseased plants, cut off extra centimeters of trunks and leaves.
By the way, if you take care of your “bottle” for several decades, then you may well get a mini-planet no worse than this gentleman!

Swamp in the house

Since we are talking about gardens behind glass, it is impossible not to talk about paludariums. Translated from Latin, it means "a vessel with a swamp."

What, immediately a terrible image appeared before my eyes - mud, duckweed, frogs croaking? .. But they didn’t guess!

A paludarium is more of a homemade rainforest, a place for growing aquatic, coastal and terrestrial plants. However, frogs are not forbidden either. As well as turtles, lizards, insects, molluscs, fish and other inhabitants. Paludarium is often confused with aquaterrarium. The principle of their arrangement is really similar - a combination of water, land and air in one place. But an aquaterrarium is more of a habitat for fauna, and a paludarium is a place for growing huge amount diverse (and very beautiful!) representatives of the flora.

Equip paludariums in large aquariums. Ideally, if the lid is closed. True, this will require the cost of installing ventilation, otherwise the walls will constantly fog up: the water evaporates too quickly.

A paludarium is a place where it is warm, humid and full of light, but there are no direct sun rays. So, most likely, you will need more aquarium lights and heaters. The temperature of water and air should be 25 - 34 °C. You also need an aquarium pump for easy filtering and mixing of water. In general, as in the case of florariums, there are practically no limits to the technical improvement of paludariums.

Usually paludariums are designed in the form of a reservoir surrounded by vegetation. All aquarium plants are suitable as a “population” of water. Tropical moisture-loving plants can grow on the banks - the same as in the florarium. Well, the “highlight” of any home “swamp” is coastal amphibian plants that “leave” the water in the process of growth: anubias, echinodarus, alternator, hygrophila, microsorium. They can be planted in two ways - directly into the ground (peat-based substrate) or in separate ceramic or plastic pots. Of course, the second method is more convenient.

Caring for a paludarium is, of course, more difficult than a simple jar of flowers. The more diverse its world, the more difficult it is to create conditions suitable for each inhabitant. But... isn't the result worth it?

Many people want to grow real tropical crops at home, but this is often simply not possible. Almost all plants of this group are demanding for care, they do not need drafts, they need the highest possible humidity. Because of this feature, the British, back in the 19th century, began to look for a way to recreate such conditions, because they really wanted to grow amazing plants. The solution to this problem was a glass box, more like an aquarium with a lid. Light passed through it perfectly, but the air was closed.

Due to the evaporation of moisture in a closed space, the "aquarium with a lid" always kept the same humidity. This method made it possible for the demanding British to grow most exotic crops at home.

Such a box not only turned out to be an excellent invention, it even migrated to our century. However, it has been improved a bit. Today's florists plant exotic plants in transparent closed containers, which are called florariums. Another name for this amazing art is a garden in a bottle. But as practice shows, not only a bottle can be a container.

Perhaps you think that such unusual miniature compositions are bought in a special store, but it is impossible to make them yourself... This is a real delusion! To make a florarium with your own hands, you need to stock up on the right vessel and suitable exotic plants.

What capacity is suitable for creating a florarium?

Here you can use your imagination. For this purpose, a different container is suitable, the main one is that it is rather big, with a wide bottom and a narrow neck. She can serve a bottle from under alcoholic beverages, various vessels, an aquarium or a jar for cereals. If exotic plants prefer maximum humidity, then opt for a vessel with a hermetic seal.

The smaller the throat, the more moisture there will be. But do not overdo it, as the neck should completely allow you to care for the crops in the florarium. Inside a non-hermetic container, ventilation will be regular, so the humidity in it is low.

How to choose the right plants for your garden in a bottle

Buy only those plants that do not grow. Otherwise, you will have to transplant cultures to another florarium, and you will lose time and extra money.

Do not forget that this container with plants plays a decorative function, which means that it does not need to be heavily covered with soil. It should be only at the bottom, even 1/5 of the capacity is a lot. It is for this reason that plants in the florarium should not be with a wide root system.

Only moisture-loving cultures will feel comfortable, because in a glass container there will always be high humidity. This means that plants should love moisture and marshy soil. It’s not even worth saying that growing cacti in an airtight container is the wrong thing to do, the plant will simply die.

It is best to cultivate decorative and deciduous plants. Flowering crops are best grown in open-necked containers, as it is simply necessary to remove faded flowers. These include: saintpaulias and orchids. Other compositions in the mini-garden can be made from dracaena, dwarf ficuses, royal begonias or pellets.

How to make a florarium with your own hands

1. Preparation of high-quality fertile soil. At the bottom of the bottle we lay 2 centimeters of drainage (expanded clay, small pebbles, crushed stone). After that, the soil substrate + activated or charcoal is poured (about 8 centimeters). Coal acts as a disinfectant, it does not allow the appearance of rot on the root system. Separately, the soil substrate should be distinguished; it should not contain clay and heavy soils. The earth is allowed only light and breathable. A garden in a bottle must breathe, only in this case it will grow and flourish.

2. Planting plants. Using a small cutlery, we make a recess in the substrate, we carefully plant an exotic culture in it. If you cannot do this because of a very narrow neck, then use tweezers.

3. Garden decoration in a bottle. You can use a couple of unusual snags, stones, or any miniature garden figures. This similarity will make a garden in a bottle a complete replacement for a living garden.

4. Caring for the florarium. The first watering is carried out immediately after planting exotic crops. The soil must be watered very carefully, as the water should not stagnate for a long time. Water is poured along the walls of the container.

Do not forget that airtight bottles should be closed with a cork, after a while condensation may appear on the walls of the vessel. He says that there was waterlogging. Wipe off these drops with a dry cloth and open the lid for a short time. Once you get rid of the condensate - special care outside the garden in a bottle is not necessary. AT summer time years, once every 10 days, the lid is opened and the plant is sprayed. By observing all these conditions, you will notice that the humid climate persists.

If drops appear again on the walls of the vessel, then it must be ventilated.

For example, you chose not closed, but outdoor garden in a bottle - then you will have to water it much more often.

It doesn't matter what capacity you prefer, if you choose the right slow growing plants, they will retain their decorative effect for a long time. Naturally, a garden in a bottle is not as unpretentious as simple artificial flowers, however, you can easily leave them unattended even for a week! And not every grower can afford this.
