Thus, experts agree that what more quantity slats, the better. However, we note right away that 30 slats will be enough for a double bed. For one bed their number is halved.

Quite often, you may encounter a situation where there are only 20-25 slats on a double bed, this is the manufacturer's savings on consumable. The design with a decrease in lamellas becomes less durable, not flexible enough.

The distance between the lamellas should not exceed the width of one plank, as for the thickness, then standard size equal to 8 mm. The length of the lamella depends on the width of the bed.

These points are important to consider and know not only when choosing a bed, but also if during its operation it became necessary to replace the slats.

Methods for attaching lamellas

Fixation is carried out using a tip holder, the manufacture of which can be made of:

  • rubber
  • plastic;
  • polypropylene.

The holder is fastened with rivets, brackets. Also, in some cases, it is provided for fixing in special pockets made at the base of the frame.

The main causes of lamella breakage

  • Exceeded permissible load. The lamellas bend in the opposite direction too much, they break;
  • Marriage, substandard. The lamellas can break if the production used low-quality wood with an uneven structure, or poorly dried.

In any case, regardless of the cause of their breakdown, it will be necessary to replace them; broken lamellas cannot be repaired.

If a repair is needed? How to change them

To dismantle the bar, it is bent towards the bend until it comes out of the groove, after which it is shifted to the side. This may be required if the bed frame needs to be repaired. If the lamella is broken, it is not recommended to glue it, it will be correct to replace it with a new one.

To dismantle the lamella, which is fixed with special holders, you will need a hammer, pliers, a screwdriver. Removing the holder is easier if you first remove the damaged lamella. Dismantling is carried out based on the type of holder and the method of its fixation. It may be necessary to remove the fixing pins, remove the brackets, unscrew the screws.

Contact us, we will advise, help you decide on the choice of lamellas, taking into account all the requirements for restoring the comfort and convenience of a bed.

Traditional beds with a mesh base are practically not used today. They do not provide proper support for the spine, which leads to the development of diseases of the musculoskeletal system. Modern beds are equipped with an orthopedic base, the springing ability of which is the key to a comfortable sleep. The metal frame of the base is filled with slats for the bed, which can be of various widths and lengths. The plates have a curved shape, are elastic and durable.

Modern mattresses require the most even base, so that the sleeping person feels comfortable. The orthopedic bed frame with a rigid structure significantly extends the life of the mattress. On the sides, the design has small sides that fix the position of the mattress. The central part of the metal frame is filled with special curved boards, which are called lamellae or armor.

In the manufacture of bed slats, only high-quality, well-dried wood is used. In production, the array is sawn into layers, which are impregnated at a certain temperature adhesive composition and become slightly curved. An important characteristic of finished products is their elasticity, which is possible due to the uniform arrangement of wood fibers. Therefore, not any wood is used in production, but only beech, birch, ash, maple, poplar. For additional protection against moisture changes, the products are varnished.

The thickness of the plates varies in the range of 1-10 mm, the width is 25-120 mm. When laying them in the base, the distance between the products from each other can be 2-6 cm. In the designs for double beds, there are two rows of slats, separately for each sleeper.

More frequent laying ensures maximum reliability, which allows even a person with significant weight to use the bed. The maximum distance between the slats is chosen for small loads on the mattress. The standard for the base of a double bed 160x200 cm is a design with 30 crossbars. A smaller number may not provide the necessary strength. The minimum value is 22 lamellas for a double base.

The main functions of the rack base include:

  • Ensuring good ventilation of the mattress. A lot of air enters the gaps between the slats, thanks to which it is maintained optimum temperature at the point of contact between the body and the mattress;
  • To fix the plates, special holders are used, which ensure the noiselessness of the structure;
  • The flexibility and elasticity of the rails allows the mattress to take the most physiological position, which ensures good dream and full recovery;
  • Decrease and uniform distribution load on the mattress, which significantly extends its service life. The probability of reproduction of pathogenic microflora inside the mattress is reduced;
  • Products have a low cost, they do not greatly affect the final cost of the bed;
  • The high base makes it easy to clean. Garbage under the bed can be quickly swept out.

When choosing a bed or base for it, it is important to explore the possibility of buying accessories in case of breakage or damage to any parts. Bed accessories include not only slats, but also transformation mechanisms, lat holders, gas lifts for lifting mechanisms. If the orthopedic base was damaged during improper use, then it is possible to replace the damaged slats for the bed with your own hands. Breakage of lamellas often occurs when the air inside the room is too dry, when the wood dries out. In this case, it is recommended to clean the surface of the planks regularly with a damp cloth.

Characteristics of wood species

A beautiful bedroom with mirrors and a large comfortable bed is the dream of any person. After all, it is in a dream that we rest and restore strength. The quality of sleep largely depends on the bed. Maximum comfort and durability of the bed base can be obtained by using a good mattress and support battens made from the right wood. The most popular breeds from which they make wooden slats for the bed are:

  • Birch - has white wood with a slight yellowish or reddish tint. An array aged 15-40 years is going into production. The high decorativeness of the texture is due to the confusing arrangement of the fibers with their high even density. Birch products are distinguished by good strength indicators, they are easily bent and subjected to other processing;
  • Beech - refers to expensive materials. array white color with a reddish or yellowish tint, annual layers are clearly visible. Wood is highly resistant to deformation, firmly holds fittings. It is often used in the production of bent products due to its natural elasticity. It tolerates changes in humidity and temperature. It has an average degree of resistance to decay. Beech slats are made for expensive beds;
  • Ash - has an elastic and durable wood. Products from it are difficult to split. The array has a light color, heart-shaped rays are absent. Qualitatively dried material practically does not deteriorate under the influence of external negative factors, easy to handle. The material has a low thermal conductivity, which allows it to be used near heating appliances. The cost of solid wood products is high, they are used in exclusive products. An additional decoration can be a lamp above the bed or a carved headboard;
  • Poplar and linden - have similar characteristics. Their wood has a low cost, has medium strength, softness. The dried array is easily processed, stained. Products from poplar and linden impregnate protective equipment, which make it possible to operate in conditions of high humidity;
  • Maple - belongs to the noble varieties, is actively used in furniture production. From it you can make a frame, headboard, slatted base. The strength and density of the material depends on the variety of maple. The elasticity and viscosity of wood allows you to process products in different ways, fasteners and accessories are held securely in it due to the significant hardness of the wood.

The optimal ratio "price-quality" have slats made of birch raw materials. Solid beech and ash slats significantly increase the final cost of the bed.

The production of lamellas and frame bases is carried out at furniture enterprises. But you can also make armor at home using suitable boards. Before making lamellas from boards, they must be pre-treated with an adhesive composition. Self-tapping screws are used as fasteners, dense edging tape or special fasteners - lato-holders. You can install the lamellas with your own hands in the grooves that are formed when special wooden bars are fixed to the frame.

An alternative to wooden rack bases are metal lamellas. Unlike wood armor, they do not change their rigidity during the entire service life, but they have significant weight. Metal slats practically do not bend under the mattress, which reduces its orthopedic properties. But when using a welded metal base, there will be no problem: the lamellas creak, what to do. From this problem, the owners will be insured.

When choosing steel with an anti-corrosion coating, the base can be operated in conditions of any humidity and temperature. Metal crossbars will require less than wooden ones. For a single bed, 8-10 pieces will be enough, while wood products will need 14-15. Cast welded bases do not require an additional central guide. Metal armor is rarely used in beds with a lifting mechanism, as they have significant weight.

What are the holders

All armor can be divided into 2 types depending on their width:

  • Wide slats (50-70 mm) suitable for latex springless mattresses or products with spring blocks. They are installed at a distance of 4-6 cm from each other. It is convenient to use wide lamellas on the tape, then they can be brought closer or removed when changing the length of the base frame;
  • Narrow bars (30-40 mm) are used for mattresses with independent springs, the density of which is high. A lattice with frequent narrow slats can be used for cribs, folding beds or transforming beds. The distance of narrow strips from each other should not exceed their width.

Modern orthopedic bases are rarely equipped with a rigid body mount lat. Preference is given to special fittings - lato-holders. Special tips are put on each rail. Then the slats are inserted into special slots on the frame. The flexibility of the rails allows them to be slightly bent during fixation.

Such mounts for lamellas are made from the following materials:

  • Polypropylene - the material has high strength, elasticity, serves for a long time;
  • Plastic - the cheapest products with a short service life, low strength;
  • Rubber - it is recommended to use holders made of this material when it creaks wooden bed. Rubber elements prevent unpleasant sounds when the elements rub against each other. They have a high price.

Special lat holders allow you to adjust the rigidity of the base. This is achieved by moving the cursors along the bar. If a person has serious problems with the spine, then blocks with double or triple armor are used. Such bases improve the orthopedic properties of mattresses, increase rigidity in the lumbar or cervical area.

The holders are fixed to the battens with furniture brackets, wood screws, rivets, or using built-in plugs that are installed directly on the frame. When a wide model range orthopedic bases, the offer of latto-holders has expanded, which differ in the type of fastening:

  • overhead;
  • For fixing on round holders;
  • Shooting;
  • For lateral fixation 53B or 63B;
  • Internal;
  • Thrust 53UP or 63UP;
  • Double rubber LPDA-2-38 or LK-38.

Fasteners are purchased for complete set lamellas or by the piece. If you need to repair the beds, then the broken armor and holders are easily replaced with new ones. Installation of new elements is simple and fast, no skills or expensive equipment are required to change. If you previously used a bed without slats, then you can replace the solid base with an orthopedic slatted one.

Dimensions and parameters

All armor can be divided according to several parameters: width, thickness and length. The standard thickness of products is 8 mm. If necessary, you can choose thicker plates that can withstand people of considerable weight. Quality armor has the same radius along its entire length, which allows you to shorten long slats or cut them into several pieces. Orthopedic properties of products do not deteriorate during shortening.

The allowable load on the bases depends on the width of the plates. For light cribs, 38 mm wide plates are used. Designs for adults include the use of plates with a width of 53 mm or more.

The most popular lat sizes are:

  • Small 38x8x890 mm, 50x8x990 mm, 53x8x990 mm;
  • Medium 63x8x910 mm;
  • Large 63x12x1320 mm;
  • Wide 83x8x1320 mm.

The optimal bending radius of products is R 4000-8000 mm, it is used by all major manufacturers. Finished goods polished and coated with a special adhesive composition with heat treatment. In the manufacture of bases for sofas with a "French folding bed" transformation mechanism, large armor is used, which makes the sleeping place comfortable for sleeping.

If you need to buy or make a new bed with your own hands, you should formulate for yourself a number of main requirements that it must meet.

  • In the first place are always orthopedic properties. After all, such furniture should provide an opportunity to fully relax, recuperate after have a hard day.
  • In second place is the build quality of the product, the materials used. Having spent your energy, time, money, you must be sure that the purchase will be reliable, safe, and will last for a long time.
  • And only in the third, fourth, etc. positions - appearance, design, etc.

The orthopedic qualities of the beds are determined by the presence of a special base for the mattress in them. Due to its elasticity, the ability to smoothly bend is achieved physiologically correct position spine during sleep, the body is relaxed and can fully recuperate.

Lamella base under the mattress

Special slats, slats are installed on the bed frame, which, in combination with the mattress, create the conditions for a “quality” sleep. Moreover, the effectiveness of the slats is maintained not only with orthopedic, but also with conventional products. What are lamellas used for?

  1. They reduce the load on the mattress, enhance its quality, prolong its service life.
  2. They have springy qualities and elasticity, in which the load is distributed correctly.
  3. The spine takes the correct position during sleep.
  4. Special holders are used as fasteners, which is why the bed does not make noise and creak when moving.
  5. Their location provides natural ventilation of the mattress.

Professionally made lamellas, or latoflex, are wooden elastic planks made of bent glued plywood. The thickness of each part is 0.8 cm, and the width can be in the range from 5.3 to 6.8 cm. As a rule, their shape is slightly curved. Latoflex is installed across the base of the bed at a distance of 2 to 6 cm, but not more than the width of the plank used.

For a single bed, 15 slats are required, and for a double bed, respectively, 2 times more. Moreover, in the latter case, an additional middle supporting bar should be installed, and the lamellas are attached in two rows. Thus, one bed provides two orthopedic beds.

What can lamellas be made of? Traditionally, latoflex is made from the following types of wood:

  • ash,
  • Birch,
  • maple,
  • oak, etc.

The slats are attached to the bed frame with the help of lato-holders, which can be made of plastic, polypropylene or rubber, tape or metal coasters.

For the manufacture of planks of the orthopedic base with your own hands, you can use boards right size after appropriate processing. Masters who make their own beds offer different ways their attachment to the frame:

  • The generally accepted option is for self-tapping screws.
  • The original shock-absorbing method of fastening the lamellas with the help of a dense edge tape.

  • Install the lamellas in the grooves created by attaching specially prepared bars to the frame.

Bed do-it-yourself repair

Subject to all assembly rules, the only thing that can cause a sleeping place to become unusable is a breakdown of the lamella or lat holder. Even an inexperienced master can fix the bed with his own hands.

New holders of low quality have the appearance and quality of rubber, but over time they lose elasticity and break. As a result, the creak of the bottom is heard, the lamellas often fall out of the mounts. In this case, a repair is necessary. Replacing damaged base elements will give a short-lived effect, since other, equally low-quality parts will break after them. The best way out is to improve the method of attaching the lamellas with your own hands.

Preparatory stage

You will need special tools and materials. Make sure you have:

  • construction stapler with staples;
  • screwdrivers;
  • chisels;
  • roulettes;
  • electric drills with drills 4-5 mm;
  • bolts M4 / M5, engravers, nuts - 4 pcs. everyone;
  • 4 furniture fittings;
  • knife
  • 2 strong edge tapes, which have a width of 20-40 mm, a length of 2 m.

Repair procedure

  1. Dismantle the damaged tips by prying off the plastic parts with a chisel.

  1. Use a screwdriver to adjust the loose connections of the bed frame.
  2. On the freed frame, lay the slats down with a bend, repeating their previous placement.
  3. Attach the end of the edge tape with two stapler clips to the first plank, stepping back 5-7 cm from its edge.
  4. Lightly stretch the edging tape and staple it to the subsequent planks in the same way.
  5. You need to do the same on the other side of the slats, using the second tape.
  6. At the end of the work, fold the resulting canvas from the slats, turn it over. Then lay it again on the frame with the tape down.
  7. Mark the location of the first lamella on the frame. Drill holes on both sides of the frame with an electric drill.
  8. Bolt the fittings in the prepared holes. They will act as limiters that fix the position of the first bar.
  9. Install the first bar in a fixed position, slightly stretch the slats. Put the same marks near the last bar.
  10. Prepare holes, install futorki.

Such repairs, made by hand, will not take much time, will not entail large expenses. But you will be spared the problems of poor-quality fasteners.

Get a double bed

A double bed is a necessary and desired piece of furniture for every family. Its purchase is always associated with a long choice, as well as spending a lot of money. But you can make comfortable furniture for sleeping with your own hands, and there will still be money for a mattress and beautiful linen.

The bed that we will make is not just comfortable. It is beautiful, has the dimensions of a bed 1800x2000 cm, is equipped with a lifting mechanism and, accordingly, provides ample storage space.

Prepare everything you need

Materials and tools will be used in the work:

  • sheets of polished chipboard 16x1750x3500 mm for the frame;
  • a sheet of 8 mm birch plywood FK 1525x1525 mm, from which we will cut lamellas;
  • 2 fiberboard sheet 2.5x1220x1440 mm will go to the bottom drawer;
  • 18 m of timber 50x40 mm will strengthen the design of the bed;
  • sheets of foam rubber 30x1000x3000 mm for finishing the headboard, 10x1000x3000 mm for finishing the frame;
  • interlining 1.6 m wide - 5 m;
  • chenille 1.5 m wide - 5 m for front trim;
  • lifting mechanism equipped with gas shock absorbers;
  • electric drill, drill;
  • metal corners;
  • grinder with attachments or sandpaper;
  • glue;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • 8 mm bolts with washers, nuts, self-tapping screws;
  • furniture stapler with paper clips.

The dimensions of the parts in a reduced form are shown in the diagram below. In accordance with them, make a cut with your own hands or order at the place of purchase of lumber.

Work description

  1. Pre-try on the prepared parts. Make a partition from chipboard (20 cm high), which will be installed in the center of the structure. Attach a bar cut to size to it.
  2. Place the bars at a height of 20 cm from the bottom of the side panels. Fix with self-tapping screws. On them and the middle partition will be located the base under the mattress.
  3. Assemble the bed frame on the screws: a beam that is located along the headboard, sidewall beams, footboards. Check the angle of connection of the parts 90 degrees.
  4. Measure and mark the center of the head and foot boards. Focusing on the marks, install the bar of the middle partition.
  5. Additionally fasten everything inside corner connections with metal corners.
  6. In the middle of each of the two berths, install 1 additional bar with self-tapping screws. They should be on the same level as the side ones.
  7. Lay the headboard on the foam rubber, outline the outline. Cut a piece 15-20 cm larger for the hem on the sides and top. Lubricate the surface with glue. Then lay the foam rubber on the headboard blank, using a furniture stapler, fix the foam rubber in several places on the front part. Slightly pulling, you need to do the same on the wrong side of the part.
  8. Open and sheathe the front of the headboard with chenille. Fasten the fabric on the back side only.
  9. Do the same for the bed frame.
  10. Assemble the outer case on self-tapping screws, strengthen the connections with corners.
  11. Install the bottom of the box, carefully placing the structure on its side.
  12. So that the transverse beam of the frame does not rub against the partition during the operation of the lifting mechanism, a notch must be made in it.
  13. Adjust the position of the parts, then attach the lifting mechanism to the frame and sidewalls.
  14. Immediately below it, install horizontal support and vertical support bars on the sidewalls using self-tapping screws.
  15. Adjust the plywood lamellas to the desired length - they should lie freely on the bars. Then sand the cuts so that the sharp edges do not damage the mattress fabric.
  16. Screw the slats onto the bars. This method of installation will ensure a long service life of the slats and reliable support and ventilation of the mattress. The slats must be securely fixed, as the bed will rise / fall.
  17. Cover the back of the headboard with non-woven fabric, hiding the attachment points decorative material, as well as the inner part of the sidewalls.

It remains to place the mattress and enjoy healthy sleep on a new bed. You can rightly be proud of the result.

Lamellas are flat, wooden, slightly curved planks of beech wood, which consist of several layers.
Usually there are 5 such layers, side view.

Lamellas differ in width, there are 35 mm (rare), 53 mm and 65 mm.
The distance between the installed lamellas in the frame can be anything, often it is: 25-30 mm, 45-55 mm, 70-80 mm.

Lamel 53 mm, distance 25-30 mm, the most best option.

Lamella 65 mm, distance 20-25 mm, reinforced version.

There are several types of mounts: on flexible rubber suspensions, inside metal profile and on top of the metal profile (frame), the most popular option is the third one.

This option of fastening the lamellas is the simplest, cheapest and optimal, the lamellas are inserted into plastic pockets fixed on a metal frame. The only drawback is that plastic pockets can have sharp edges that can ruin the mattress cover, but such a defect is extremely rare.

In the photo, the “upper” method of attaching the lamella (some kind of handle was fastening the pockets)

Is it possible to break the lamellas?

You can, if you really try, I didn’t succeed even though I tried.

For the purity of the experiment, we will use a living bed with slats (Venice Lux bed)

For such an experiment, a human leg is best, it is better to use someone else's leg, but I only had my own. We put our foot on the lamella, press it with force in anticipation of a characteristic crack.

Contrary to expectations, the lamella did not break, it bent in the opposite direction and jumped out of the mount.

We bend with an arc, I managed to bend about 20 cm in height. Such loads are easily tolerated by the lamellae.

It turns out that even at maximum loads, “bending” in one direction or another, it is difficult to break beech lamellas.
The marriage that occurs most often is the delamination of the lamellae, the presence of knots / defects, or the bending of the lamella in the form of a propeller.

Bitch, I would even say bitch!

Propeller, one end of the lamella fits exactly on the table, the other end of the lamella does not fit very well

Why do you need a lamella frame?

You can talk for a long time about the benefits of such lamella blocks, but I see the advantage that these boards are able to take part of the load on themselves, thereby extending the life of the spring block or springless filling of the mattress, the mattress is also perfectly ventilated on the lamellas, and this important point mattress in use.

What to do if a leg / arm is stuck between the lamellas?

I can’t imagine what needs to be done for this, but still, if this happened, then you will need the help of a more sober comrade, otherwise you risk “getting stuck” there together.
If the child somehow fell into such a “trap”, then simply bend the lamellas into different sides, one up and one down, and remove the stuck body part.

How to replace a broken lamella?

Replacing a broken lamella is simple, bend it by squeezing it from both edges, and insert it into the mount. It may not work the first time, if you buy spare slats in our store, then we will give you the opportunity to practice on our beds 🙂

What are slats made of?

The slats are made of wood!
The main material is beech, sometimes birch (softer), pine (less durable).

On this I will finish.
If you have questions to which you did not see the answer, write, call.

P.S. I don’t have a photo with a stuck leg between the lamellas

Beds with springs have long sunk into oblivion and have been replaced by modern models with an orthopedic base. Their design is like two drops of water similar to each other and it consists of wooden box, metal frame and one or two rows of lamellas - curved panels. The latter are responsible for the orthopedic properties of the bed and take on the weight of the mattress and the person resting on it. What are the slats for beds and what are their advantages over the spring - let's figure it out in the article.

What it is?

Lamels are wooden plates, panels that make up the base of any modern bed. Their feature is a curved C-shape and the ability to withstand big weight mattress + person. Reiki can be made from:

  • Birches - plastic and available material;
  • Lindens - an inexpensive analogue;
  • Beech;
  • Ash;
  • Maple.

Birch lamellas, or lats, are the most popular and affordable orthopedic slats. Beech and ash parts will cost more and are usually installed in 100% solid wood beds.

Why are they needed?

The orthopedic base of the bed is assembled like a puzzle - from a couple of dozens of slats and a common metal frame that holds them together. Wooden strips create a slatted bottom on which an orthopedic mattress is laid. Modern models mattresses do not tolerate uneven and questionable surfaces and are quite heavy in their weight, and the lamellas, in turn, provide:

  • Natural ventilation for the mattress due to the small distance between each of them;
  • Reducing the load on the mattress and on the bed frame;
  • Increase the anatomical effect of the mattress, that is, complement its orthopedic properties;
  • They create a light springy effect due to their curved shape, so such a base does not creak or make other annoying sounds;
  • They extend the life of the bed, because they completely take on the weight of the mattress.

It is not for nothing that the slatted base of the bed is called orthopedic: it evenly distributes the load on the spine of the resting person, providing him with a high-quality and full sleep.

The slats allow the mattress to “breathe” and remove moisture from it. Each new mattress we wrap in a waterproof mattress pad that can create a real Greenhouse effect inside it. The slatted bottom eliminates this problem, and the orthopedic "friend" continues to serve us faithfully for decades.

In what form can you buy?

The slats are sold as part of an orthopedic base in the bed and separately - by the piece. Like any other element of the bed, they are subject to stress and can break. Experts do not recommend sleeping on a bed even without one slat: firstly, the load on the other parts of the bed increases and their integrity is questioned, and secondly, the orthopedic properties of the mattress and the base are reduced, which are designed to evenly distribute the load on the spine and ensure healthy sleep.

The slats are sold individually or as a set according to the size of a bed or sofa, so if one plank is cracked or completely broken, it will not be difficult to replace it, it remains only to choose the right replacement for its thickness and width. A set of slats can be sold on a tape if your bed uses this system for attaching rails (by the way, it is already outdated). Additionally, you will have to buy spare parts for attaching the rail: a cap-holder (internal or consignment note). There are accessory caps that hold the lamella and are attached to the metal base of the bed without "intermediaries".

Which ones are better?

There are two types of lamellas: wide and narrow:

  • Wide slats about 900-1000 mm long are installed in one row on the grate and are often used in single or one and a half beds. The slats across the entire width of the bed are suitable for springless mattresses and models with "bonnel" springs.
  • Narrow(700-800 mm) are located in two rows - each for one bed. This type of slat arrangement is recommended for mattresses with independent springs.

If we talk about the number of elastic panels, then the best option is 26-30 pieces for a double bed. For a single bed, the number of slats is half as much - 13-15 pieces. The more slats, the better: this number of slats ensures optimal flexibility of the bed base and can withstand more weight.

The lamellas differ from each other in thickness, length, width and the distance that forms between them. The optimal thickness of the rail is 8-10 mm, the width is 5-7 cm, the length can vary from the width of the bed (140 cm, 160 cm, 180 cm - each of them will require slats of different lengths). Between the lamellas there should be a distance no more than the width of one of them - about 4-7 cm.

There is one more important classification- according to the type of lamella holders. Modern manufacturers attach latoflexes to special holders made of:

  • Plastic;
  • rubber;
  • polypropylene.

Lamellas on a tape or fixed on a metal frame also move to the side, making room for a practical and easy fastening, which, in the event of a rail breakage, allows you to replace the latter yourself.

It is impossible to say which lamellas are better. If we talk about their fastening, then it is better to choose rubber or polypropylene holders - they are stronger and better than plastic counterparts.

Dimensions

The beds differ in the size of the bed, and each of them will require a different length of the slats. For a double bed 180x200 cm, slats 880 \ 885 mm wide are suitable, for a single bed - 900-990 mm, provided that the slats are arranged in one row, and 500 mm - for a pair of rows of slats. The slats can differ in size and even in the angle of bend, so before replacing and buying a separate rail, it is important to measure the length and width of the parts already installed in order to choose exactly the same.

The slats differ in width - 40, 50, 70, 80 mm, but their thickness is practically unchanged, the ideal is 8 mm.

How to choose?

When buying a bed with an orthopedic base or slatted bottom, pay attention to the number of those same slats.

The more, the better, according to experts. And the wider the bed, the greater the number of planks should be at its base.

The optimal number of slats on the bed rail is 20-22 pieces for a bed 190-200 cm long. If there are more slats, then such a bed will be softer, more plastic and more functional, it will withstand a greater weight of the mattress. Reiki differ not only in quantity, but also in the material from which they are made.

The most affordable is birch, which is not inferior in strength to harder woods.

Birch slats are usually installed in economy and middle segment beds. At the base of solid wood beds, beech lamellas are placed - durable and solid slats. Give preference to rubber or semi-propylene rail holders; plastic ones wear out quickly and are not as practical to use.

When choosing a slatted bed base, pay attention to the distance between the slats: it should not be more than the width of the plank. If it is large, then the springless mattress will fall into these “holes”, and the lamellas themselves will soon come out and fail, because they will not be able to withstand a lot of weight.

When buying a double bed with a width of 140 cm or more, choose a model in which the slatted bottom is divided into two halves. So for each bed will be created its own slatted base. It is logical to assume that shorter slats are used in this type of stock.

The slats, lined up in one row, are suitable for a single and one-and-a-half beds, a folding bed and a sofa when there is no heavy load on the base.

How to do it yourself?

For the production of lamellas is used natural wood- suitable birch or poplar. Making an orthopedic bed base and slats with your own hands has a great advantage - you can choose the number of slats yourself. This will require:

  1. Mounting rails or birch plywood 1.5-2 mm thick;
  2. Mounts for lamellas - rubber or foam;
  3. Cutting tool.

The process of creating lamellas begins with a drawing and cutting planks of the same size according to it

To make the job as easy as possible, choose a smooth 100% birch plywood without knots or roughness so that you do not have to additionally process it.

How to insert?

Lamel is attached to metal frame beds as follows: a special cap is put on it and in this form they enter the hole (nest) at the base of the bed.

To remove the lamella or replace the damaged part with a whole one, bend the bar and remove the fastener from the socket. Remove the intermediary caps from both sides and replace the latter with a new whole bar. Put the caps back on, insert one end of the lamella into the socket, bend it and place the other end into the hole on the other side of the frame.

To attach the part to the frame correctly, you will need to make a little effort and bend the bar: it will not break.

Grid or solid bottom?

Beds with slats at the base have practically replaced the usual spring models and a bed with a solid bottom, because have a number of significant advantages:

  • The slats evenly distribute the load on the human spine during rest and sleep;
  • Strengthen the effect of an orthopedic mattress;
  • Take on its weight (which is sometimes very heavy). Do not think that it is the body of the bed that is subjected to the greatest load, no. It is taken by the same orthopedic base made of metal case and a number of lamellas;
  • The slatted bottom allows the mattress to “breathe”, that is, it ensures proper air exchange and prevents it from “suffocating”. When buying a mattress, we often put a waterproof cover on it, which does not allow moisture or air to pass through, and the slatted bottom saves it from direct death and ensures the evaporation of moisture and “breathing” in general;
  • The arcuate shape provides a slight spring effect when loaded;
  • The base with lamellas does not creak even under heavy load (due to their shape and number);
  • Reiki can be changed individually if suddenly one of them is cracked or broken;
  • The slatted bottom is affordable and of higher quality than a solid counterpart.

Manufacturers of orthopedic mattresses advise choosing a slatted bed base, because it further prolongs the life of the mattress. Depreciation, which "give" the bed curved slats, has a positive effect on the health of a person and his spine.
