So, today the site "Comfort in the House" presents to your attention wonderful flowerbeds of stumps, below you can study suitable photos, and also learn about the secrets of creating such flowerbeds.
Unusual stump beds.

How to make a flower bed from a stump.

For a start, it is worth making a reservation that to create such an impromptu flower bed, an uninfected stump should be used, inspect it, it should have a clear structure, without fungal formations, without settlements of ants, bark beetles.

So, the stump has been examined, you can proceed directly to the recreation of the flower bed. We arm ourselves with a small hatchet, and cut a hole in the center of the hemp, adjust the depth yourself. For example, if a flower pot with a plant will be installed in a stump, then the depth of the hole should correspond to the height of the pot, if the plants will be planted directly into the stump, then, in principle, it is not necessary to "gut" the stump very deeply. In addition to the hatchet, you can use a pickaxe, as well as a chisel.

When the desired recess is recreated, it is necessary to treat the stump with an antiseptic, and also varnish it on all sides. Now we put gravel stones for drainage, soil enriched with minerals into the depression, and plant the plant.

Suitable plants for old hemp flower beds.

It is better to plant plants with a shallow root system in such a flower bed, thus suitable: marigolds, geraniums, petunia, pansies, cornflowers, periwinkle, loosestrife, saxifrage, thyme, bells, hosts, asters, spirea, irises, heathers, geychera. And also any flowers suitable for recreating miniature gardens, you can read about it here.

How to decorate a tree stump in the garden.

Sometimes one planted plant is not enough to fully satisfy the perception of the composition, so all kinds of ceramic figures are also used, it is better not very large sizes, and garden lights working on solar powered... In addition, a stump flower bed can also be supplemented with decorative soil - colored pebbles or whole tiny compositions, popularly referred to as tiny gardens. The essence of which is to recreate in a container, imitate a full-fledged garden with dwarf trees, flowers, miniature benches, houses and other elements.

Well, for even greater effect, you can also decorate the adjacent area around the stump by planting climbing plants, recreating the effect of a dry spring (a flowerpot lying on its side with flowers seemingly pouring out of it), creating a small pond, installing a fountain or recreating a rock garden. In this matter, it is very important to show all your creative potential, and then the stump, and the entire territory around it, will be perceived as only 5+.

Where such a flower bed will look good.

Perfectly the best place for a stump-based composition, the most viewed area is considered, so it will be great if the stump is located next to the gazebo, playground, garden swing, barbecue, garden furniture, swimming pool. But an improvised flowerpot from a stump should in no case interfere with movement around the site, if it needs to be bypassed every now and then, someone has stumbled through it more than once, then it clearly does not belong here, and accordingly, efforts must be made to irrevocably remove along with the root system. Better let the stump be part of a large full-fledged flower bed, and will be located either next to it, or even on it, somewhere on the side or in the center. By the way, so that the stump does not get out of the composition, the designers recommend planting the same plants that you planted in it around it.

How to make a flower bed from a stump

To make the stump look beautiful in the country, remove the core from it. It will be good if the core is rotten enough. If not, drill a few holes with a drill and add a stump remover (potassium or sodium nitrate). Fall asleep in the fall and tie it with polyethylene. But here you need not to overdo it with dosages, otherwise you will destroy not only the core of the stump, but also its entirety.

After removing the core, cover it with fertile soil and plant flower seeds. It can be either. Tulips in stumps look great.

Children will be very interested to know what kind of gnome lives in their dacha in a hemp. Such a stump on garden plot they will be very pleased.

Spring irises always come in handy.

They are planted in a flowerbed from a stump in the fall, and in the spring they enjoy the beauty.

There comes a time when a tree that has been bearing fruit for many years or simply delighted you with its spreading crown has to be cut down. As a result, an unsympathetic stump is formed in its place, with which you need to do something. You can, of course, uproot it, but often such work requires serious physical effort. After all root system the old tree remains branched and very strong. If you also do not want to dig a pit to extract the root, you just have to figure out how to decorate a stump in the garden with your own hands.

Of course, the old tree stump will not bloom by itself, but this does not mean that flowers cannot grow on it. This really happens if you plant low annual flowers, herbaceous or even ornamental plants... Their presence will greatly ennoble and revive the saw cut of a tree.

All these modest flowers look very impressive in a single bouquet, which, like a vase, holds the simplest stump.

To bring this idea to life, you need a minimum cost. We level the surface of the stump, after which we make depressions in the stump. They should be such that the root system of the plant you have chosen can develop unhindered. A landmark can happen, for example, a flower pot.

You can simply make one indentation in the stump by removing the core from it. This is easy to do when we are dealing with rotten hemp. From tools we will need a saw or chisel with a hammer. If the stump has appeared on your site relatively recently, it is better to use the core burning method.

Surely such a stump will become a real decoration of your garden at the very beginning of the last spring month and on the eve of summer

A hole must be drilled deep enough in the center of the stump so that kerosene can be poured into it. Side surface at the same time, it should not be less than 7 cm so that after the removal of the core, our structure remains intact. Fill with kerosene and plug the hole in the hemp with a stopper.

After about half a day, add kerosene and plug the hole again tightly. Leave the tree stump alone for one to two weeks. Then remove the plug and light the core of the stump. When it burns out, the resulting flowerpot should be treated with an antiseptic so that the flower bed will last longer.

Drill holes inside the recess to eliminate stagnant water. Now we put inside garden soil mixed with nutrients, after which we plant seedlings or bulbs. When a lush cap of flowers forms on the stump, it will not look old and unsightly at all.

If you are not sure about the strength of the walls of your new flowerpot from the stump and are afraid that they may begin to crumble, you can reinforce them with a net.

Most different variants what you can do with your own hands from a stump in the country you can see in this video:

Idea # 2 - tree stump as garden furniture

To make some interesting thing out of an old stump, for example, a piece of furniture, you need good tool and some skills of similar work. But tools are not a problem today. And about skills, you can say this: all great masters were once apprentices. So let's try at least. What are you risking in the end? Only with an old stump.

Option # 1 - stump as a chair

Let's say you just mapped out a tree for a saw cut. It would be nice if he had a thick trunk. We remove the branches, moving from the thin upper ones to the stronger lower ones. Now that you have a trunk in front of you, you need to mark it out.

If we want to make a chair, it is more convenient to place the seat at a height of 40-60 cm from the ground. Let's say it will be 50 cm. We put a chalk mark at this height. But the chair still has a back. Add another 50 cm to it.At a height of 100 cm, we also put a mark with chalk. A cut will pass along this mark, which is best done with a chainsaw.

It is difficult to say to what extent the chair shown in this photo is of natural origin, but it is this that illustrates well the result of the work described in this section.

Now we will shape the back of the chair. To do this, we need to make a horizontal cut at the level of the seat. That is where our first chalk mark is. We make a cut to a depth of 2/3 of the trunk. We saw through from the side into which the chair will be turned in the future.

To form the back, we will make a vertical cut from above until we reach the previous, horizontal one. We remove the piece of the trunk cut in this way.

The basis is created, you can proceed to decorative finishing... For this work, we will need different devices from grinder to the chisel. It all depends on how you decide to decorate the resulting chair. In any case, it will no longer be a stump sticking out in plain sight, but a comfortable chair, sitting on the seat of which, you can have a good rest.

Option # 2 - the original table

When you made the chair, you chose not to part with the bark. Now we have to do garden table, the leg of which will be the stump itself. And this time it is better to get rid of the bark. For this we can use a chisel or chisel. We will work as carefully as possible: after all, we do not want to damage the wood at all.

This photo clearly shows how exactly you need to nail the holders to which the tabletop will be attached in the future.

On side part we fill the stump with two perpendicular wooden planks. We fix on them in pairs perpendicularly fastened to each other four holders. We make the tabletop from boards, and fasten them together with planks.

The table top can be made round. To do this, it is enough to draw a circle, using an impromptu compass made of a pencil, rope and nail for this purpose. We drive a nail into the center of the tabletop, to which a rope with a pencil at the end is tied. We outline a circle and delete everything that went beyond its borders.

The table top, fixed on a leg that was once a stump, needs to be processed with special protective compounds, and for the winter it is better to close such a table

We nail the finished tabletop to the holders with nails or fasten it with self-tapping screws. Ready product must be sure, which will prolong his life.

Idea # 3 - funny compositions

Implementing the following idea is not at all difficult. And now the dry skeleton of your tree is being sawed by little men, similar to green grasshoppers. It is easy to make such babies yourself, using wire, pieces of tin or plastic for this purpose. Similar fairy-tale characters can be purchased in a shop selling souvenirs and toys.

The figures are very cleverly made, and the whole composition leaves an amazing positive impression: the people must be fixed securely so that they are not damaged by bad weather.

These funny figures can be screwed to the trunk using self-tapping screws, wire or clamps. Such a comic composition will decorate your garden and attract the attention of your friends and neighbors.

Option # 2 - decorative fly agaric

If you think that making a fly agaric from a tree stump is easy, then you are absolutely right. All that is needed for this is an old enamel or iron bowl and aerosol. The bowl needs to be cleaned and painted with red spray paint. After it dries, on a red background, draw white rounds, exactly like the specks on the cap of the fly agaric.

Numerous other objects can be placed next to the handsome fly agaric, which help to revive the composition, to make it complete

The stump also needs to be painted in White color... It would be nice to draw a funny grinning face on it. But here's how fantasy tells. It remains only to put on an elegant hat on the leg and boldly declare that the fly agaric is ready! By the way, it is not necessary to make a fly agaric. It could be White mushroom... It's just that the fly agaric looks more elegant.

To complete the picture, we suggest that you put stones, for example, green, at the foot of your mushroom. They, like a picture frame, will create a border for your work. However, you can do without them.

These porcini mushrooms are also made from hemp, only in a completely different way: both the leg and the cap of the mushroom are cut from the wood of the stump itself and painted in the appropriate colors

Option # 3 - fabulous teremok

If a person is not deprived of imagination, then even from a dry stump he is able to make a whole work of art - a fairy-tale castle or a small house, inhabited by the most amazing fairy-tale characters. Such a craft can become a source of pride for the owner of the site, if you work on it with soul.

Nice house, made in japanese style, complemented by a small hut, most likely intended for a traditional tea ceremony

The stump itself can serve as the main part of the castle, on which the entire additional decor... In order not to miss anything, we propose to make a sketch of the future structure and subsequently try to follow it.

Decorating details can be cut from a piece of fiberboard or plywood. They should be attached to the stump with self-tapping screws. All components must be impregnated to protect them from decay. In addition, they can be painted in desired color.

The material on creating plywood crafts for garden decoration may also be useful:

Children will really like such a cute house with figures, who will undoubtedly immediately adapt it for their fun games.

Sometimes in the trunk of a dry tree, very low from the surface of the earth, there are hollows, growths. All these details, despite their natural origin, are easily used in the composition. For example, small toy ladders with funny gnomes on them can hang from the hollow. And on the growth, you can place a toy grand piano with a squirrel pianist.

Do not forget to pay attention to the roof of the building. For her, an old leaky bucket will do. By the way, artificial or live plants knocking out of the hole in the roof of such a structure will look very attractive.

This video focuses on a wide variety of characters made from tree stumps:

Idea # 4 - decorate the tree stump with potted flowers

We have already described how you can decorate a stump with flowers that are grown in it, but there is another option for such a decoration. If several branches have survived on the stump, you can hang the same flowers on them, but grown in pots. They can look very impressive.

Even if there are no branches, the flower pot can be placed on the stump itself or around it, creating a special aura of flowering and continuing life. Hemp looks great as a decorative stand for plant pots when sanded well to allow the wood to show its texture.

Despite the simplicity of this composition, it looks very impressive and emphasized in a rustic way: for the country style it suits perfectly

But at the same time, do not forget that the tree located on open area, needs protection - impregnations that will resist decay.

Idea # 5 - garden sculptures

Everyone can create garden figurines from tree stumps, but real artists produce wonderful works of art that are striking in their realism. If you are driven by the desire to simply decorate your site, then you can create a simple image that does not require special skills.

Surely this gorgeous deer who speaks in the spring forest is expertly carved from a regular tree stump by a high-level professional.

Making a simple figurine from a tree stump is not at all difficult. Those who sculpted snowmen in childhood can apply the accumulated experience in this case. The role of the hands will be performed by twigs, instead of a nose and mouth we will attach knots, Eyes can be made from brown bottoms from plastic bottles... The cork from the same bottles will play the role of the pupil.

All this is attached to the hemp with self-tapping screws. On the horizontal surface of the saw cut, you can simply spread pine cones that will imitate hair. Here is such a garden caretaker that we made on hastily, ready.

But any schoolchild can make such a funny watchman for a summer residence, and it is for this that such a garden sculpture is appreciated

If it so happened that a whole row had to be cut down country trees, do not be sad. This situation also has its positive side. But now you have a large number of stumps located close to each other. And this is not bad at all. Make them a fabulous country for your kids, putting into practice all the information that you have already received in this article.

It will be simple wonderful place for games. First, you have to peel each stump from the bark. To do this, you need a chisel and a hammer. The chisel must be inserted between the bark and the trunk of the tree, and then gently knock on it with a hammer. The bark will move away from the trunk and soon the stump will completely lose it. Now it can be carefully sanded using for this purpose sandpaper with medium grain.

Such an owl could easily become a companion of Baba Yaga herself and settle in her hut, flying out of her from time to time to hunt

Be sure to wipe off wood dust formed during work with a damp cloth. The tree prepared in this way should be treated with an antiseptic, which will protect it from decay.

Now you can start decorating the stump. Let's choose a big tree stump to turn it into a real Baba Yaga's house. Let's take chalk and outline the location of the future windows and doors of the grandmother's hut. Recesses in wood for doors and windows can be made using a chisel and hammer.

We need pieces of boards from which we have to make doors and shutters on the windows. These details of the future structure can be painted right now, while they are not yet nailed into place. Doors and shutters should be nailed to the places indicated on the stump with nails, from which the caps have been bitten off. Completing the decoration of the hut, you can collect twigs and snags in the area unusual shape to stick them around Baba Yaga's house. Let them portray the dense years.

On smaller stumps, you can depict heroes of a wide variety folk tales or funny cartoon characters. You can decorate these stumps and draw the planned characters on them using paints for outdoor work. The images on the outside will wonderfully complement the flowers planted right inside the stumps. How to do this was described in detail at the beginning of the article. You can also limit yourself to pots with plants.

Another great composition by a professional artist and sculptor creates great mood, inherent in a small fabulous corner of your garden

Let's turn a couple of stumps into children's chairs. For this, we will not even cut out a massive back. If you still have old chairs, take their backs for this work. They should be carefully freed from the varnish, and then, using ordinary nails, nailed to the seats from the stumps. The finished chairs only need to be painted in bright colours that kids will surely love.

Just turn the small remaining stumps into a flock of fly agarics, using bowls or basins of the appropriate size as their hats. Now you know exactly how such fly agarics can be made. Everything, the improvisation on the theme of a fairy tale is ready.

Idea # 6 - "green monster"

Another idea of how you can ennoble the stump may also interest you. For this purpose, you need a hefty stump with a powerful root system, which is lurking in a shady place. If you have one on your site, you can consider yourself lucky.

A large moss-covered tree stump looks mysterious, as if it got into your garden straight from Twilight or some other saga

Buy a moss variety from the store that suits your climate. You need to plant the moss on a tree stump. To make it start, you will periodically have to spray it with water. Now it is important that the moss grows. When this happens, you will be able to fully appreciate the grandeur of the resulting creation.

Summer residents most often begin to think about how to decorate a stump in the garden with their own hands after trying to clear the area of unnecessary trees. On the site, there may be ugly stumps of trees, hemp, which will need to be disposed of.

A flower bed made from an old stump can be a key element of decor in landscape design dachas.

Usually, getting rid of stumps is carried out by uprooting them from the ground. If there is no need for a flat area, sometimes a decision is made not to remove the remains of trees, but to turn them into decorative items. Particularly interesting can be the elements made in kindergarten in the form of fairy-tale characters and other funny gizmos.

Use for decorating hemp flower pots

Decor cuts with original figures, purchased or homemade.

You can grow flowers not only in front gardens and flower beds - vertical ridges and pots are suitable for this.

Try to decorate an ugly stump that you really don't want to remove from the site with potted flowering plants... Place a suitable pot on the saw cut, set a few pieces around.

If the stump is very gnarled, with twists, bends, it is possible that in some of them it will also be possible to strengthen containers with plants.

Potted flowers can be planted or re-grown.

The stump is additionally decorated with moss, it is nice to add a fabulous theme to it - bright large flowers, perhaps even artificial, fern, place animal figures next to it. This will help transform a relatively small space into a fairy forest.

Decoration with ready-made decorations

Gardens and suburban areas, lawns and even vegetable gardens are beautifully decorated with products purchased in the store, specially designed for this. Products can be funny, bright and may well be used to decorate stumps in an interesting and beautiful way.

To transform a stump into a fly agaric, it is enough to take an old basin, paint it with paint in the appropriate colors and put it on the stump.

If, when cutting down the stump, you get an extensive area, you can sit on it garden figurine- frog, hare, cat. Paint the stump itself in any suitable color... You can make complementary decorations with your own hands - it can be flowers from lids from plastic bottles and cans nailed to a tree, or just a mosaic of multi-colored lids.

The classic option for transforming an old tree stump into something prettier or more useful is to make a fungus out of it. It can be a fly agaric, boletus, or just a blue-white-yellow miracle that will look beautiful in the middle of the site. If there are several stumps, it is easy to arrange a whole mushroom clearing.

Such decor will require preliminary preparation. Pick up a few shabby basins - they can be full of holes, it's not scary. The basin will play the role of a mushroom cap, the stump will become a leg.

Turn the basin over to a saw cut, fix it on nails, paint in the color that seems most suitable for you. Color the stump leg. The mushroom can be left in this form, those who wish can add decorative elements, fresh flowers.

Decorating a sawn tree using homemade figures

Even if a person does not know how to handle tools, he will be able to decorate an unnecessary stump using figures made by himself or purchased in a store. A wooden snag looks funny, on which lumberjacks made of tin are planted. Give them a tin saw in their hands and place them so that it is convenient to look at them. In the right places, you can fix the lumberjacks using nails, self-tapping screws, or simply screw them with wire.

How to turn stumps in a summer cottage into chairs?

If you are good at using tools, try to make a resting corner from the area decorated with stumps. It is not difficult to convert the stumps into comfortable chairs for sitting and relax in them, and it is not at all difficult to put a table next to it.

If the old tree stump is big enough, it can make a whole chair with a back and armrests.

An old tree stump is a great garden seat, and thicker ones are best. Ideally, the chair should be planned even when the tree is just about to be cut down. Branches are removed - thinner upper ones, then thick lower ones. When you finally free the trunk from the branches, you need to work on the size of the future thing.

For a standard seat, a height of 40-60 cm is suitable. At the same time, do not forget that the chairs must have backs (if you are making a chair, and not a stool, for example). It is better to take the following dimensions: make the first cut with a chainsaw at the level of half a meter from the ground, the second at a level of one hundred centimeters. This will be the seat and back.

After that, cut the trunk with a chainsaw at the height indicated for the seat. The depth of the cut should be approximately two-thirds of the thickness of the trunk. It is performed horizontally on the side to which the chair will be turned.

Next, a vertical cut is made, reaching the horizontal. This is done in order to remove excess wood from the seat formation. All work must be carried out with preliminary marking, observing safety precautions.

It turns out a rough version of the chair, which is subject to further finishing. For her, tools such as a mallet and a chisel, a hacksaw, a hammer, a grinder are useful, sometimes more professional devices are required. After finishing, you will have wonderful furniture for a summer residence of the most natural materials... In order for a hand-made chair to serve for a long time, it is additionally treated with special chemicals.

Castles and stump houses

An old tree stump can be used as a basis for a fabulous decoration: a mill, a gnome's house or a sorcerer's castle.

From an unrooted stump, you can build a whole fairytale castle that will decorate and revitalize your estate. No special work is needed here - it's all about imagination. First, on a piece of paper, draw a structure that you would like to receive at the end of the work. The subsequent actions will depend on the completed sketch.

The work is easiest to do according to the following principle: the stump itself will serve as the skeleton of the product, to which the decorative elements will be attached.

For example, from pieces of fiberboard or plywood cut along the required line, the base of the lock is made, which is attached directly to the stump using self-tapping screws. Details must be impregnated with varnish - to protect against decay, or painted in the desired color. In the same way, other parts of the structure can be strengthened on the basis.

If the stump has natural holes, hollows, the stairs attached to them look funny. On horizontal platforms, you can place toy animals, furniture from children's sets.

An old bucket is also suitable for installing a roof - it can be painted in a bright color, and if there is a hole, fresh or artificial flowers are released through it.

"Blooming" stump in your area

Compositions of fresh flowers and natural materials look great - if you decorate an ugly tree stump with flowering plants, it always looks beautiful and does not go out of fashion. Plants can be herbaceous, annual flowers look good, as a last resort there are big choice ornamental plants.

To start the design, make a hole in the cut of the stump. Its size must be chosen depending on the agrotechnical characteristics of the plant - the root system should feel as comfortable as possible in such a hole. The hole can be as large as a standard flower pot.

In the prepared bed for the root system, it is poured nutrient substrate or soil with added fertilizers. After that, the plant is planted. If desired, the stump can be additionally decorated by arranging a fence around or attaching windows made of branches painted in bright colors to it.

The stump makes wonderful garden figures... Come up with an image first - it could even be a cartoon character if you can bring it to life with a few details. They should be as simplified as possible. For example, a tree stump decorated with flowers growing at the top can be continued to decorate. Flowers and grass play the role of hair on the head, below you can attach eyes from can lids, mouth and nose from scrap materials, and you get a cheerful face of a garden elf.

Put on a tall, gnarled stump in an old shirt, put a bucket or hat on the "head", make eyes and a mouth - you will get a scarecrow or a pretty guardian of your lands.

By creating such figures, you will not only have a pleasant and useful time in the country, but you will also be able to effectively apply seemingly unnecessary things.

Instead of throwing old clothes and utensils in a landfill, figure out how you can use them in your garden decor.

If there is no time for laborious work on the decor of the stump, it can be decorated in simple ways... For example, you can remove the bark, sand the surface with sandpaper and paint it with different bright colors.

Painting is suitable for uprooted stumps as it must be done on dried material. Before starting work, you need to prepare a saw, sandpaper, brush, paint and varnish.

The procedure for decorating a stump is as follows:

  • First, you need to clean the surface of dirt and bark. After examining the workpiece, you should remove areas of loose and rotten wood from it.
  • With the help of a hacksaw and chisels, you need to give a stump, depending on the surge of your imagination attractive shape and leave it to dry outside. Direct exposure to ultraviolet radiation on the workpiece is undesirable, since its wood can crack.
  • The stump will dry for at least a week, depending on its size. Then the future element garden design must be carefully sanded using sandpaper. Moreover, at the beginning of processing, it must have a large abrasive grain. In the process of work, it is worth gradually moving to a fine-grained abrasive to create an absolutely smooth surface on the workpiece. For large areas, you can use a sander. This will speed up the process and reduce its labor intensity. However, this tool is not suitable for sanding narrow areas of the stump.
  • Now you need to choose a material for painting the dried and sanded workpiece. If the color natural wood does not matter in principle, you can take a textured paint with a pigment, for example, "Aquatex". In addition to the pigment, this material contains an antiseptic that prevents wood from rotting. If you need a natural shade, the stump can be covered with ordinary varnish, having soaked the product with linseed oil in advance.
  • After painting with textured material, the stump must be transferred to dry in a warm, shaded place, and after a few days, start varnishing the product. To obtain a glossy finish, it is recommended to apply at least two coats of varnish to the stump. When it is dry, it can be installed in the desired location.
Another interesting option- glowing stump. Here it is necessary to pass the cable through the groove previously made in the surface. Then you need to install a light bulb on the cut. A similar goal can be achieved by painting the tree stump with fluorescent paint.

You can also cut flowers from plastic bottles. After that, they should be painted and fixed with glue on the saw cut and the sides of the stump. If you plant plants around it, this composition will take on the appearance of a magical forest.

Stump decor options in the garden

Due to the whims of nature, a wooden stump can have both an ordinary and the most intricate appearance. All this opens up an unlimited flight for imagination. The most popular options for creating an element of country decor from an ordinary stump include decorating it with moss, transforming it into a stand, a piece of furniture, a fabulous sculpture, etc.

Tree stump

Thanks to the perfect combination natural materials the stump will look special when used as a flower bed. To translate this idea into reality, you will need plants, earth, as well as a hammer and chisel.

Such a stump decor in the country must be performed in the following order:

  1. First, you need to remove part of the core from it. The hollow space will serve as flower pot... This procedure can be performed with a chisel and hammer, methodically deepening and widening the hole in the stump.
  2. There is a more radical way of making such a cavity - this is burning it with kerosene. First, you need to hollow out the core of the stump to a shallow depth, keeping its wall thickness at least 7 cm. Then kerosene should be poured into the resulting cavity and left for 12 hours to absorb. Then you need to add fuel, close the stump tightly with a lid and wait a couple of weeks. After this period, the lid can be removed, and the kerosene can be set on fire. The burned-out cavity must be cleaned and filled with earth.
  3. After that, you need to select planting material... The dark surface of the stump will work well with brightly colored flowers. In the process of planting them, it is worth taking care of a sufficient amount of fertilizer and moisture. Excess water can be drained out of the stump through a hole previously made on the side in its lower part.
  4. The stump flower bed will be perfectly decorated with multi-colored stones that can be laid out in the form of patterns around it.

Planting moss on a tree stump

Using moss, it is easy to make the decor of the stump with your own hands "semi-antique". This will not require significant money and time. However, you should be aware that for such a stylization, the stump must be located in a damp and shady place.

In order for the moss to take root well on the surface, after planting it must be watered with buttermilk and then constantly moistened. Then it will grow more intensively.

Since the moss is prone to slipping, it is recommended to plant ornamental climbing plants near it.

Stump decoration in a fairy-tale style

If you are smart, you can decorate one or more stumps so that they become a favorite place for children to play, decorated in the form of a fairy corner. For work, you will need crayons, a hammer, an emery cloth, a chisel, boards, linen tow, glue and materials at hand.

The order of work is as follows:

  • First, using a chisel and a hammer, you need to free the stump from the bark. After that, it must be sanded with a medium-grained emery cloth. The resulting wood dust should be removed with a cloth, and smooth surface treat with an antiseptic.
  • Then the stump needs to be painted in Brown color... After the paint has dried, the workpiece can be stylized as a "goblin". To do this, you can glue tow on top, which will imitate the hair of a fairy-tale character, and chestnuts, denoting his eyes, to the side of the stump.
  • Below, horizontally, you need to glue a knot imitating a mouth and paint it with red paint. The whites of the "eyes" on chestnuts can be made from white caps removed from plastic bottles. A little lower, you need to make a recess in the wood and insert a "nose" knot into it. Our "goblin" is ready.

How to make a table from a tree stump

For artistic creation you will need furniture wheels, a chisel, a pry bar, a plane, a grinder, a chisel, a building level and an abrasive cloth.

The whole process looks like this:

  • If the stump is dry, use a pry bar and chisel to remove all the bark from it.
  • After that, you need to horizontally align the future table. Building level the bottom plane of the stump should be checked. Eliminate the detected distortions by grinding the edges with a planer.
  • Then the surface of the stump must be sanded. For this it is recommended to use a coarse abrasive. When the plane of the saw cut becomes smooth, the stump must be placed and its side surface must be sanded.
  • If there are cracks in the stump, they should be cleaned of dirt with a knife, trying not to disturb the texture of the tree, since original view knots and cracks will give the future table. Vacuum off any debris from sanding and cleaning.
  • Then, furniture wheels should be screwed to the lower plane of the stump, they are sold in any hardware store... They are required not only for the convenience of moving the table, but also to ensure air circulation under it.
  • After that, the table must be varnished. When its first coat is applied, it is worth waiting 30 minutes and treating the surface with a fine-grain abrasive paper # 320. To extend the service life, apply at least four coats of varnish to the table surface. Each layer must be left on certain time to dry according to the instructions of the material manufacturer.
  • At the last stage of work, the table must be wiped with a soft abrasive. This will save it from excessive shine. Now the table can be used for its intended purpose.
The above procedures and uprooting does not require a simpler kind of table from the stump. In this case, it remains in its place, but a tabletop of an arbitrary shape, made with one's own hand or purchased, must be attached to its saw cut with screws.

Instead of a tabletop, you can fix a bird feeder on the stump or make high chair... To do this, take a seat from unnecessary furniture, cover it with varnish and nail it to the cut of the stump.

Making a chair from a tree stump

If you have the skill of owning carpentry tools, you can make an original resting corner from several stumps on the site. It is easy to turn them into comfortable chairs, and it is even easier to install a small table next to it.

A good armchair can come from a thick tree stump. It is advisable to plan its production even before the tree is cut. After freeing the trunk from the branches, you need to think over the dimensions of the future chair.

For a seat, a height of 40-60 cm will suffice. However, remember that the chair must have a back. Based on these considerations, the first cut of the trunk with a chainsaw should be made at a height of 0.5 m from the ground, and the second - 100 cm. This is how the seat and back will be outlined.

The depth of the first cut should be 2/3 of the thickness of the trunk. It must be performed from the front side of the future chair in a horizontal direction.

After that, a vertical cut must be made before joining with the horizontal cut made earlier. These actions are aimed at shaping the seat of the chair and removing excess wood. The work is recommended to be performed with preliminary marking of the product elements and compliance with safety regulations.

After all the manipulations with the chainsaw, you will get a rough blank of the chair, which should be subject to fine processing. For subsequent work, instead of a chainsaw, you will need a hacksaw, a hammer, a chisel or more professional tools, depending on the conceived idea.

To make a chair carved from a stump with love more durable, it should be treated with an antiseptic before painting. Finished furniture can be varnished, emphasizing the texture of the wood, or painted different colors in bright colors.
