By pursuing redecorating apartments, one of the rooms Alexander Zaitsev trimmed with fabric, and not only walls, but also partially furniture. Read what he did in this article.

When choosing a fabric, I settled on an inexpensive plain cotton fabric that resembles a canvas. This is the so-called double-strand.

Previously, he completely removed the wallpaper from the walls, moistening them with warm water and scraping them with a spatula. In order not to fiddle with putty and leveling the walls, I first glued the fabric on HDF panels 3 mm thick (you can use hard fiberboard), and then on the walls, which I had previously primed with diluted PVA.

I used liquid nails for gluing the plates. This method is, of course, more expensive, but more convenient. And the walls are smooth as a result. The method was tested on a small piece of panel (600 x 400 mm). First I glued the fabric in a "raw" way - on PVA and saturating the fabric on top with it. But, as it turned out, the double-thread does not shrink - and as it dries, the fabric began to wrinkle and gather in folds.

Therefore, the further sticker was made in a "dry" way: the panel was primed with PVA, after drying it was coated with glue again, covered with a cloth, which he smoothed with light hand movements (small blotting is not terrible, since PVA glue does not leave marks when it dries), and then ironed it with a hot iron before the glue cures. The fabric was glued to the non-laminated side of HDF. The color of the lamination does not matter, so I used the cheapest white coated panels. I glued the fabric with an allowance of 15-20 mm, which was then cut off with a clerical knife.

Here we need to focus on PVA glue. It is produced three types- carpentry (the most durable, but also the most expensive), versatile and construction. The latter in our business can be used for a primer, but it is necessary to glue or universal - this is the best option, or a mixture of carpentry (30-50%) and universal.

After gluing the panels to the walls, he decorated the joints between them with a wooden layout 30 mm wide, carefully gluing it with Transparent Gel glue, produced under the Moment brand. As a plinth and top curb, I used a 50 mm wide layout, planting it on "liquid nails".

Using the same technology, I pasted over two visible planes of the cabinet with a mezzanine - the doors and the right lateral surfaces... Only glued not on HDF, but on the prepared surfaces of the cabinet and mezzanine. For this I dismantled the doors and sidewalls. My wardrobe is of a classic design of the sixties of the last century with polished doors (mezzanine is homemade, made of veneered joinery boards).

Tape grinder with a rough sandpaper, he mercilessly ripped off the polish from the doors and sidewalls, having received an excellent rough surface for pasting. Everything decorated with fabric I trimmed the planes around the perimeter with a PVC corner 25 x 25 and 20 x 25 mm, cutting off 5 mm at one of the corner shelves. I did the same along the edges of the doors. The edge of the doors from the side of the piano hinges was trimmed with a 25 mm strip, which I received by cutting off one of the shelves at the corner.

Decorating walls and furniture with fabrics - the price of the issue

The cost per square meter of HDF panels is 60-80 rubles, of used fabric - 70-100 rubles. And the cost of industrial textile wallpaper(on a non-woven basis) - about 1,000 rubles. per square meter... Feel, as they say, the difference!

The door to the room (of a massive Soviet design - fiberboard on a frame, pasted over with a film), dismantled before finishing, removed the film without great difficulty, but - with top layer hardboard.

The result was a porous rough surface, which I primed twice with diluted PVA and, after drying, pasted over with a double-thread according to the already proven technology. The perimeter was also trimmed with a PVC corner 25 * 25 mm. In the same style, he designed the panel covering the sliding mechanism above the door.

He completed the work by making a screen for a heating radiator, into which he introduced decorative panel, covered with a double-thread.

One of the walls - with large quantity bookshelves and once decorated with panels under a light wood - I did not touch it: it blended well with the updated interior of the room.

Wooden interior details - layouts, cornices, baseboards, as well as elements of the radiator screen, covered in two layers water stain under mahogany and - after good drying - with three coats of colorless "Senezh Aquadecor".

I also decorated the plane of the window sill under mahogany - there was a back wall from the old bookcase, I cut it to size and glued it on "liquid nails".

Do-it-yourself wall decoration with fabric - work progress

One of the walls is occupied by a large one, which was not touched during the repair; when gluing the panels, cutouts were made in them to bypass the showcase

1. Finishing materials of the room - beige double-thread fabric and HDF panel (reverse side).

2. A wardrobe with a mezzanine combined with finishing into an ensemble. Color solution based on the contrast of light planes and darker stripes along their borders.

3. Sliding door. The upper suspension mechanism is covered by a screen.

4. Fragment of door trim. In the open position, the door protrudes 80 mm into the opening, so the handles are installed ordinary, not recessed.

5. Radiator screen. The grille is made of waste slats, the lower part is an HDF panel, covered with fabric, on a wooden frame.

6. Wall decoration with bookshelves during the renovation, it was decided not to change: it blended well with the new interior.

In search of inspiration, both designers and mere mortals often turn to interior decoration technologies that served our ancestors with faith and truth. Is one of these traditional ideas that can well be implemented with the help of modern materials and technology.

Why decorate the walls with fabric?

The fashion of the past is returning not so much for aesthetic reasons, but also for purely practical reasons. Why, with an abundance of modern materials, trend for wall decoration with fabric Doesn't it lose its positions at all?

  1. The fabric has many positive physical properties that provide useful consumer characteristics. The material, even with synthetic threads, has good vapor permeability, creating a favorable indoor climate. Matter has a certain coefficient of heat conservation, therefore it can act as an element of a heat preservation system in an apartment or house. The fabric is elastic, has a high coefficient of elongation, so it is not afraid of wall shrinkage, as well as accidental mechanical or shock effects.
  2. Aesthetically attractive appearance, and the wealth of options that fabric finishing allows is literally unmatched. Using a variety of materials, you can create, without exaggeration, any interior, from luxurious baroque to cute country, from strict minimalism to sophisticated ethnic patchwork.
  3. From the point of view of practicality of use, the fabric is criticized by many. Say, dust sticks to it, it is difficult to care for it. But to overcome the problem of electrostatics, there is a simple remedy - an antistatic agent. You can clean the fabric with conventional vacuum cleaner... On the other hand, the fabric perfectly masks the imperfections of the base surface, and the abundance of ways in which you can fix the selected option on the wall makes it possible for anyone home master try your hand at textile decoration. And not just experiment with it, but achieve complete success.
  4. Other bonuses include cleanliness of work, absence of construction debris, dirt and dust.
  5. Deserves attention and the opportunity to create a sense of a solid, seamless space, which is very much appreciated by many aesthetes.

After all, even a modern fabric, which is created with the addition of a large number of synthetic threads, has the environmental friendliness that is necessary to create a high quality of life.

What kind of fabric can be used on the walls?

Choice of finishing material depends entirely on your design preferences and allocated budget.

  • Natural fabrics - cotton, linen, jute, sisal - have many advantages. They have an absolutely natural origin, perfectly keep their shape, are easy to clean, have reduced static, as a result of which they attract less dust, provide air exchange in the room and retain heat well. Among the shortcomings, one can note a high degree of creasing, instability to ultraviolet radiation. Some of the natural fabrics are quite expensive. But they allow you to create magnificent interiors in ethnic or natural designs. They are especially often used in interiors of country, Provence, Californian and Mediterranean style... Traditionally, for example, jute and sisal decorate ethnic interior fantasies, and linen and cotton are actively used even in capricious modern styles.
  • Silk and satin are also exclusively of natural origin. However, neither the price nor the practical characteristics of the fabrics meet the requirements for finishing materials: these fabrics are too slippery, soft and difficult to work with. Artificial satin and silk, on the other hand, cost quite reasonable money, are well formed, and although they slide, nevertheless, they are much more suitable for use as wall decoration... They give the room an expensive and at the same time romantic, aerial view, real charm. Often used in girls' rooms, when decorating bedrooms and boudoirs, as well as to give a special, solemn and festive mood in rooms for the general gathering of the family - living rooms or dining rooms.
  • Heavy fabrics with a base of natural threads - jacquard, tapestry, brocade, and so on - perfectly help to keep warm and reduce the noise level in the room. They keep their shape excellently, and although they have quite heavy weight but they are quite comfortable to work with. All these materials can make a room very cozy, homely, warm, or solemn, even somewhat pretentious, especially if shiny threads were used in the manufacture of the fabric. The cost of these materials is quite high.
  • Light and airy cambric, taffeta, tulle, veil are perfect for wall decoration of part of the walls; it is not recommended to use them for massive decoration, since they are too susceptible to various negative influences: they easily get dirty, torn, melt. However, they cope with the creation of accents in the form of flowing shuttlecocks, canopies. They make very interesting compositions in combination with denser and more reliable fabrics. The use of light and airy fabrics in creating transparent marine interiors, as well as for decorating rooms in romantic styles.

How to properly decorate walls with fabric

Like any other finish, fabric has its own nuances, features and properties. What is correct wall upholstery algorithm?

  1. The prepared fabric must be wet and dry before work, and then ironed. This is done in order to avoid possible shrinkage of the coating under the influence of changes in air humidity. If the fabric is not prone to shrinkage, simple ironing is sufficient.
  2. Wall finishing work must be done starting from the corner. Moreover, the initial angle should be strictly 90 °, or at least, as close as possible to such an indicator so that, upon completion of the work, the edges converge exactly.

Exists several methods of attaching fabric to walls.

  • The simplest of these is gluing. The fabric is glued to a dry and clean wall. The material is cut into strips that resemble wallpaper, then the stripes are sewn together. At the same time, it is better if its own cloth is sewn for each wall, this will facilitate the work. The finished fabric is rolled into a vertical roll. The fabric is glued along the edges, greasing the strips 10-15 cm wide with glue and sequentially gluing the fabric to them. For additional fixation of thick fabrics, you can use temporary overhead strips, which are removed after the panels have dried.
  • Fastening with the help of special frame structures, in which the fabric is fixed with clips, has the advantage that to replace the interior, you just need to remove the fabric from the frame and pull on another. The downside is the additional costs for the purchase of such fasteners and their installation along the perimeters of the walls.
  • The fabric can just come with nails. The main thing in this technology is a good stretch. It's a good idea to practice on the furniture first.
  • Mounting the tack with special fastening strips will give a very special charm to the room. After all, this is how the walls were decorated many years ago. True, this method is only good for dense fabrics or leather. In addition, beautiful decorative nails-rivets are required.
  • The fabric can be attached to a flexible profile. This option opens up new design perspectives, because with the help of such a mount you can create amazing and unusual shapes by combining different fabrics or fabrics. You can create a real masterpiece of impressionism or modernism.
  • Fastening the fabric to the rail means that the rail is stuffed around the perimeter of the room, and the cloth is applied to it. The advantage of this option is that you can additionally use insulation - foam rubber, isoprene, even mineral slabs that are laid between the fabric and the wall.
  • The most modern and quick way to trim the walls with a cloth - use textile Velcro for this. The looped strip is attached to the wall - with glue, nails, screws, and the strip with grips is sewn to the fabric. It remains to simply fasten the two pieces of tape, and the cover is ready. The advantage of this method is the easy replacement or transformation of the design.

Decorating walls with fabric is not only an original interior idea, but also a fairly simple and practical way to update a room's design or adequately complete renovation and finishing work in an apartment.

Cloth wall decoration can be done in four ways: by pulling on the material, gluing, upholstery and by draping surfaces. Any of them improves sound insulation, allows you to hide wall defects and helps to retain heat in the room.

Any fabric can be used as a finishing material for walls, but it is desirable that it be dense enough. Synthetic fabrics have proven their worth - they are durable, easy to work with and do not require special care.

Another possible variant- fabrics used for upholstery. They are durable, resistant to mechanical damage, moisture resistant. For drapery, you will need a lightweight and well-shaped material.

You can choose the material and finishing method by first examining the photo various interiors using this technique.

It is important to remember that if there is high humidity in the room, this method of wall decoration will not work.

Stretching the fabric

The technology of wall decoration with fabric is quite simple.
You will need:

  • wooden slats;
  • dowels and screws;
  • construction level (hydro level);
  • nails and hammer;
  • tape measure, pencil;
  • screwdriver.

Between the wall and the stretched textile, a free space equal to the height of the used rail. If necessary, insulation or soundproofing material can be laid in this air pocket. To fix the material, special glue is used, while the joints are carefully sealed so that it does not leak onto the fabric.

When choosing a material, the properties of textiles are taken into account - for light ones, they choose insulation of the same color, the dark one will shine through.

Progress

Along the entire perimeter of the room, draw lines for mounting the rail using a pencil, tape measure and building level... The lines should be located at the same height from the floor and ceiling, while the distance between them should also be maintained so that the fixed fabric is stretched evenly, there are no distortions.

With the help of dowels and self-tapping screws, wooden slats are fixed on the marked line.

For further action it takes two pairs of hands. The fabric must be pulled evenly and firmly. In the places of attachment to the rails, it is tucked twice to prevent the appearance of breaks. It is nailed with the help of small nails, a piece of leather is preliminarily placed under each. Another possible way fixation - on furniture staples.

At the final stage, the places where textiles are attached to the slats are covered with plinths or decorative strips.

Gluing fabric

Gluing is the most popular, but rather laborious process.

Surface preparation

Before you start decorating the walls with a cloth with your own hands, you need to prepare the surfaces.

This will require:

  • putty knife;
  • plaster;
  • paper or newspapers;
  • sandpaper;
  • nitro varnish (for stains on the walls, if any).

Operating procedure:

1. Use a spatula to clean the wall surface.
2. All irregularities and grooves are sealed with plaster mortar. They wait until it is completely dry.
3. The entire surface of the wall is covered with paper or newspapers. When the glue is dry, sand the wall using sandpaper.
4. If after all these operations there are stains on the wall, they are treated with nitro varnish so that they do not appear on the fabric.

Preparing the fabric

Unlike wallpaper, textiles are glued to the wall not in cuts, but in a single piece. It is advisable to choose the widest possible cut so that there are as few joints as possible. If this is not possible, then the wall is measured, the strips of material are sewn together, leaving a margin at the top and bottom. The seams are ironed from the seamy side, the finished cut is rolled up.

The material is tested for shrinkage - a small flap is measured, immersed in water and then dried. Measure again, and if its dimensions are reduced, then the entire cut prepared for work is soaked, dried and ironed.

Operating procedure

Furniture glue can be applied immediately to the entire surface of the wall, other adhesives are applied at intervals, to separate areas so that it does not dry out.

Work begins from the upper section of the wall. The fabric is applied and pulled. For this operation, 2 people will be required - one will hold the roll, the second will glue the finishing material and carefully smooth it with a roller so that it lies evenly and tightly.

The fabric is temporarily fixed with small studs. Align and at the same time secure by ironing with an iron, leading the device from top to bottom. When heated, the glue will solidify, fixing the textiles securely to the wall. It is required to iron the entire surface of the wall several times so that there are no missing areas.

When the work is over, the excess linen on the ceiling and near the floor is carefully cut off, taking care not to fray the edge of the material. Places of cuts are additionally coated with glue.

The process of complete solidification of the glue takes about 3 days. After this period, the fabric is carefully inspected, if air bubbles are visible on the surface, they are carefully pierced and ironed with an iron.

The final stage is the decoration of the edges with molding, plinth or baguette.

Drapery

Drape walls with fabric will require the involvement of an assistant.

For finishing, you will need a large canvas, the width of which is significantly greater than the perimeter of the room - this is necessary to create folds.

The work does not imply fixing the fabric over the entire surface of the wall, most often the textiles are fixed on a strip located at the ceiling, and below it falls freely.

Materials and tools that will be required for drapery:

Preparing the walls

Before draping the wall with textiles, the surface of the wall is cleaned with a spatula, wiped with a damp cloth to remove dust. Large and small cracks are covered with plaster. After the solution has dried, they are passed over the surface. sandpaper, then dust is removed again.

Preparing the fabric

In order for the material to lie in even, identical folds around the entire perimeter of the room, you need to prepare it. The easiest way is to mark the folds with pins, and then sew the entire length along the top edge. In this case, you get a ready-to-work canvas with already made folds. It is much more difficult to form them at the stage of nailing the fabric to the wall, and the end result may not satisfy.

Operating procedure

Using a level, a line is drawn along the entire perimeter of the room on which the rail will be installed.

The canvas is folded along the edge, fixed along the outlined line with the help of studs. On top of the fixed textiles, the slats are fixed with self-tapping screws and a screwdriver. Fasteners are placed no further than 30 cm from each other.

After mounting the slats around the entire perimeter of the room, they proceed to fixing the fabric from below. To understand all the subtleties of the work, it is recommended to watch a video in which the process is filmed in detail.

Upholstery

To upholster the walls with cloth carriage coupler, you will first need to install a special frame. It will not be easy to cope with the task on your own, but if you wish, you can do this too.

For upholstery, you will need a dense and durable fabric that is breathable and resistant to sunlight.

You will also need to create a sketch with which you can calculate the amount of material and fastening ties. The width of the cut should be greater than the height of the wall (by about 10 cm). The screed can be made in the form of squares or rhombuses, a specific pattern is achieved by the location of the fastening strips (vertically or diagonally).

The fastener itself can be made of the same fabric as the upholstery, or it can be contrasting.

Operating procedure:

  1. The surface of the wall is pasted over with heat and sound insulation. The degree of relief of the finished finish will depend on the thickness of the layer - the larger the layer, the more spectacular the walls will look.
  2. The textile material is marked along the entire length (marks are made in which the fabric will be fixed with nails to the wall). Errors during work must not be allowed - every puncture will be noticeable, it cannot be removed.
  3. An assistant is used for work. The upper edge of the canvas is glued along the ceiling. Nails are driven into the marked places, acting from top to bottom, placing the material evenly, making sure that there are no distortions.

Upholstering or pasting walls with fabric is an effective way to decorate a room. Using this method, it is easy to mask the flaws in the walls and communications. However, it is worth remembering that a large number of dust, therefore it is necessary to regularly look after it: vacuum and remove stains in a timely manner.

For wall decoration, cotton and linen fabrics, burlap, furniture fabric are used. From artificial - viscose, polyester, polypropylene, polyacryl and polyamide, mixed - natural fabrics with viscose or others. Fabrics are also used to create style and individuality in various interiors, below we will tell you what fabrics are used for wall decoration in interiors of various styles. We offer you to look at a photo-selection of interiors in which decoration with fabric is done in various ways.

A bit of history
The chambers of Indian nobles were decorated with fabrics as early as the 3rd century BC. V Ancient Greece draperies were used with fabrics of walls, windows and beds. They initially performed a protective function, but with the advent of dyes for fabrics and the creation of the simplest patterns on them, wall decoration with fabrics began to play an aesthetic role. The art of interior drapery came to Europe only in the 15th century. At the beginning, the windows were curtained with fabrics, but over time, exquisite Burgundy and Flemish tapestries of extraordinary beauty gained immense popularity. Later appeared different styles decor with the fabric of the room.

Byzantine- this method uses both thin, flowing and soft fabrics, and heavy, nap, with a complex ornament.
Romanesque- it is characterized by the use of woolen fabrics, as well as silk, cotton and taffeta. The canvases contain geometric patterns or ornaments of the heraldic type.
Gothic style- fabrics with gold threads and printed designs are used. Wool or leather is used for decoration. The prints are dominated by stars, crescents, shamrocks. In this style, the concept of a headset first appeared - the use of matching fabrics for curtains, furniture and bedspreads.
Renaissance Style- the use of fabrics such as silk, lace and velvet.
Baroque style- velvet is used for wall upholstery, furniture is upholstered in velvet or satin with a large pattern, and windows are decorated with heavy curtains with fringes and tassels. The palette of colors: dark blue, pink-red and wine-green colors.
Rococo- characterized by the use of silk for upholstering walls. The main palette is pastel colors, curl prevails in the pattern on the fabric.
Style Classicism- the use of fabrics of red, yellow, white, gray and pistachio color is characteristic. The fabric of curtains with lambrequins must be combined with the fabric of furniture covers.
Russian style draperies are characterized by the use of various fabrics to decorate all objects in the house: walls, tables, chests, windows, doors.

Fabric decoration methods
There are several ways to decorate walls in an interior. Walls can be decorated with fabrics along the perimeter, in fragments or only on one wall.
Cloth upholstery
With this method, the preparation and leveling of the walls is not carried out, since the textiles will be fixed only along the edges of the wall.

Wall drapery
In this method, textiles are used in the form of conventional curtains along blind partitions and walls. You can also imitate light draperies, create lush multi-tiered designs, or apply the principle of Japanese curtains.

Sticking fabric on the wall
This method is similar to wallpapering the walls. For this method, only lightweight fabrics, such as tulle, are used. The surface of the walls must first be leveled.

Finishing part of the wall with fabric
Fabrics, like wallpaper, can be used to trim only a part of the wall, creating a color contrast or accent on a specific place on the wall. Such fragments can be framed with wooden planks, or molding. Such fragments can imitate art panels or paintings.

The fabric on the walls should be in complete harmony with the rest of the textiles used in the design of the room.

Cloth wall upholstery is one of the most modern ways finishes, allowing not only to create a unique design in the room, but also to hide some imperfections on the surface of the walls. Wall decoration with fabric is in special demand among owners of suburban housing, whose rooms are distinguished by high ceilings and large area walls. It is beautiful, durable and very original finish, which has become an excellent alternative to all existing finishing materials. The execution of the work is no different high level complexity and does not require the participation of qualified craftsmen. To be successful, it is important to strictly follow the rules of the technological process and choose the right fabric that is most suitable.

Ka choose fabric

Cloth wall upholstery is performed using artificial and natural materials, which can be purchased at specialized trade organizations... When choosing fabric for walls, you should first of all pay attention to:

  • jute;
  • jacquard;
  • cotton.

It's not only natural materials, they also have a number of other advantages. So, for example, by fixing such a fabric on the walls instead of wallpaper, you do not have to worry about the correct direction of the thread and how daylight will fall on the surface. Mixed fabrics, which include natural fibers and viscose, are very popular. To carry out work on finishing the premises, the form of release of such material is very convenient. These are rolls from 140 to 280 cm wide and 100 m long fabric.

Artificial materials are used in cases where the walls are decorated with a cloth with their own hands. Viscose and polyester, polyacrylic and polyamide attract the attention of those who want to change inner space their homes in that they are perfectly stretched, easily take any desired shape, and do not lose their attractiveness for a long time.

Before proceeding with the work, you need to correctly choose not only the fabric intended for wall upholstery, but also the very place of its fixation.

Such decoration is not performed in the kitchen and hallway, walk-through area and rooms with high humidity... The photo shows exactly how you can decorate a room using bright expressive canvases of fabric.

Fabric wall decor is performed in strict accordance with technological process designed specifically for wall decoration with fabric. Compared to wallpaper, the material for decoration is more durable, easy to use and durable. Fabrics for such decoration are easy to clean and do not accumulate household dust.

Synthetic fabrics are dense and moderately stretchable. They fit perfectly on any surface and hide existing imperfections and small defects.

Fabrics made of synthetic fibers are distinguished by a high level of moisture resistance, are suitable for creating draperies, and keep their shape throughout long period time, do not succumb to the negative effects of ultraviolet rays.

All these qualities are taken into account when choosing a fabric for use in the interior as a decorating finish for walls.

Stretch

There are several ways that you can quickly and efficiently sheathe the walls with fabric yourself, without resorting to the help of qualified specialists. To pull a synthetic canvas with your own hands, you need to prepare the appropriate tools and fasteners:

  • wooden slats;
  • dowel nails;
  • hammer and nails;
  • drill and screwdriver;
  • building level.

You will need a pencil and a ruler to measure desired distance and make notes. The advantage of this decoration method is that noise-insulating material can be laid in the space between the canvas and the wall formed during the work.

The process begins with the installation of a kind of frame. A horizontal rail is attached to the entire perimeter of the room under the ceiling using a dowel of nails. This design is also assembled along the baseboards.

Fixing the fabric is carried out using furniture staples, but when using a fairly dense canvas, you can use a hammer and furniture studs. The entire area of the sheathed surface must be covered with a canvas. It is important to stretch it evenly, avoiding sagging of the fabric.

If furniture brackets are used for fixing, then it is quite enough just to tuck the edge of the fabric, but when performing work with nails, a small piece of genuine leather should be placed under the head of each of them.

These measures will help to avoid tearing of the fabric during stretching:

  1. The first attachment point is in the middle of the ceiling strip. Trying to evenly stretch the fabric, fasten it to the end of the rail in the direction in one direction, and then repeat all the steps in the other.
  2. After the completion of the operation, they begin to fix the tissue to the lower rail fixed along the floor. They also start from the middle and gradually move away from the first fixation point in both directions at the same time.

During work, you need to constantly monitor the degree of tension in order to prevent sagging or tearing of the fabric. At the end of the process, all attachment points are covered with moldings and baseboards. The photo shows that strict adherence to the rules allows you to achieve a positive result.

Cloth wall cladding will not only hide defects on the wall surface, but also create additional heat and sound insulation.

Pasting

Before sticking the fabric on the wall, you need to prepare the surface for the upcoming decoration. The use of such a design method in the interior of even small surfaces allows you to radically change the perception of the surrounding space. A wall covered with a spectacular fabric is a real decoration of a room, but in addition, this decoration method allows you to clearly define the boundaries of a certain area when zoning a space.

First you need to thoroughly prepare the wall surface:

  • remove the remaining old coating;
  • if necessary, putty or plaster is partially or completely renewed;
  • the wall surface is processed primer deep penetration;
  • all metal parts found on the surface of the wall and protruding through the plaster are coated with nitro enamel to prevent rust stains from appearing on the fabric.

After that, the work on the preparation of the wall to be pasted can be considered complete, and it is time to start marking the material. When starting to decorate the walls with a fabric that will be fixed on the adhesive composition, you need to accurately measure all surfaces that are to be pasted over. The fabric canvases will also have to be measured accurately.

It is quite difficult to glue one large canvas covering the entire wall at once. To simplify the task at hand, you can divide the fabric into several small canvases. Having chosen an adhesive composition, you need to prepare it, stir it, let the glue brew and start applying it to the wall surface. Preparatory work with fabric are visible in the photo.

If you have to paste over the entire wall completely, then stick a solid canvas. It is rather difficult to do such work on your own, and the master will need the participation of assistants. Before you can start cutting the matter, a small cut is placed in hot water to check the fabric for shrinkage and color fastness.

After 10-15 minutes, the flap is taken out of the water, dried, ironed and measured again. If all the parameters remain the same, then the fabric does not shrink and you can attach it to the adhesive. Furniture or casein glue is considered the most convenient for working with fabric. It dries and gains strength when exposed to high temperatures when the decorated surface is heated. With this glue, you can cover the entire surface of the wall at once, without fear of premature drying.

They begin to glue the fabric, like the wallpaper, from above. One of the workers holds the canvas, and the second, pulling it, rolls it with a roller, achieving uniform pressure. For a more reliable fixation, furniture brackets are used, which, if necessary, are later removed. Pressing the fabric with a roller against the treated adhesive composition surface, it is best to iron it with a hot iron, but in some cases you can use a hair dryer (not necessarily a construction one) in order to achieve complete drying of the glue and material as soon as possible.

Iron the entire surface of the wall several times. After 3 days, it is necessary to check the tightness and the absence of air bubbles under the fabric. If such are found, they are pierced with a needle and the entire surface is ironed again with an iron. When exposed to high temperatures, the fabric adheres firmly to the wall. Excess material under the ceiling and above the floor is carefully cut off and the edges are covered with moldings, moldings and baseboards.

No less popular is such a way of decorating a space as draping with fabrics, but such finishing works are often carried out in country cottages... On the walls modern apartments glued cloth or stretched fabric looks better.

The order of work is shown in the video, which may become detailed instructions to perform the listed works.
