Christmas trees can be big or small, beautiful and not very beautiful, but they are always put on the main squares of cities all over the world. What is the largest tree today?

From year to year, the highest floating Christmas tree in the world remains in Rio de Janeiro with a height of 84.7 meters.

It's not really a tree, but Christmas decoration in the form of a Christmas tree, which is installed on a floating platform in Rio de Janeiro. The Christmas tree stands on special pontoons that keep it afloat. 105 km of colorful garlands adorned the unusual building. They have so many different colors that the Christmas decoration can take on any color. Today this building is the main pride of the inhabitants of Rio.

In second place is the Christmas tree in Grozny, which is located in the city center on Prospekt im. A.A. Kadyrov, next to the complex of high-rise buildings "Grozny City".

In addition, the 6th line in the world ranking of the largest Christmas trees is occupied by a Christmas tree on Red Square in Moscow - 32 m.

But, New York reaches only 24.3 m, in Prague - 21.9 m, in Paris - 21.3 m, decorated with Swarovski crystals.

Rounding out the list is the 21st holiday tree in Sydney, Australia.

But this is far from full review. Here are some more trees that have become famous for their growth over the years.

The largest tree is from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which has reached 112 meters in height. She was once the absolute champion and even entered the list of records in the Guinness book.

A 67-meter beauty that a few years ago adorned the main square of Washington, USA. Despite the fact that this record has long been broken by representatives of other countries and cities, the Washington green beauty is still among the most-most

But that's not all!

An entire mountain in Italy has been turned into a Christmas tree.

Few people know that world's largest christmas tree is lit every year in… ancient city Gubbio in northern Italy.

The inhabitants of Gubbio are lucky, the Christmas tree decorated for them can be seen from anywhere in the city, because this is not a traditional tree, like ours, but a huge light installation located on Mount Ingino. It covers an area of 130,000 sq. m. (these are almost three football fields), the height of the New Year's beauty is more than 650 m. When creating it, 300 green light bulbs are used, placed along the contour, and another 400 multi-colored light bulbs that serve as decorations. At the top, a star-comet of 250 light bulbs is installed, the area of \u200b\u200bwhich is 1,000 square meters. m. To connect all the bulbs, about 7,500 m of cable of various capacities are required. The scope of the Italians was appreciated, and in 1991 their offspring fell into Guinness Book of Records.

An unusual tradition appeared in Gubbio in 1981, since then, on the eve of the Day of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary on December 7, illumination has been lit every year. Throughout the month, the "tree" pleases local residents and numerous tourists. By the way, well-known politicians, actors, businessmen light the Christmas tree, and in 2011 Pope Benedict XVI fulfilled this mission, for this he clicked a virtual switch from his computer in the Vatican.

The cable that outlines the outline of the Christmas tree is constantly on the mountain, for three months before the holidays, a group of volunteers checks its serviceability, screw in the light bulbs and installs special lighting batteries.

In the New Year, we surround ourselves with bright, unusual objects and strive to celebrate it in the company of our loved ones. And the main attribute of the winter holidays is the New Year tree. Artificial or real, small or large - it doesn't matter. The forest beauty serves as a symbol of goodness, beauty and prosperity. It is not surprising that people have long tried to make their Christmas tree special - the very best.

It turns out that the Guinness Book of Records has a special section dedicated to achievements in the Christmas tree field. True, every year the champion title, as a rule, goes to a new forest beauty. But this does not mean that there are no absolute champions among Christmas trees.

The very first Christmas tree in the world

It is believed that the very first Christmas tree was installed in Riga in 1510. Evidence of this is not only the documents found in the archives of Riga, but also the world's oldest Christmas decoration. True, there are still disputes about where exactly the first Christmas tree appeared - according to some sources, it was installed somewhere between Riga and Tallinn, according to others - it was in Tallinn. But in 2010, the prime ministers of Latvia and Estonia agreed that the first New Year's forest beauty was still installed in Livonia. Unfortunately, very little is known about the first Riga Christmas tree. It is known that it was installed in front of the famous house of the Blackheads. She was dressed up with slings in black caps. But after the holiday, the tree was burned.

Attributing to itself antiquity and Russian roots, banned and rehabilitated, the Christmas tree again adorns cities and villages. And again, at children's Christmas trees, everything will go according to the recipes recommended by pre-revolutionary teachers for the holiday of orphans, with ideological inserts from later times. It is worth figuring out where and why the Christmas tree came to Russia.

We only add that in Russia the custom of celebrating the New Year with a Christmas tree in the house was introduced by Peter I. However, everywhere in Russian Empire Christmas trees began to be installed only in late XIX century, and this tradition was observed until the revolution. In the USSR, at first, these trees were considered a bourgeois attribute and were banned. But in 1935, the taboo was abolished, and since 1949, January 1 was declared a day off.

The most expensive Christmas tree in the world

Record holders in this category are constantly changing. So, in 2008, a jeweler from Singapore created a precious spruce from 21,798 diamonds with a total weight of 913 carats and 3,762 crystal beads. The cost of the tree exceeded one million dollars. But in 2009, this record was eclipsed by a Japanese Christmas tree installed in a closed club in Tokyo and costing more than $ 11 million. She was not even shown to the public - a six-meter tree, dressed up with jewelry and wrist watch, demonstrated only to wealthy guests of the institution and journalists. The Christmas tree served not just as an element of the decor of the hall. All decorations from the tree were allowed to be redeemed, and the record holder was melting before our eyes. And after the end of the action, the Christmas tree was presented to one of the orphanages, having previously replaced the remaining jewelry with toys and sweets.

In stores, spruce can be bought without waiting for the opening of street outlets. Local prices have long been determined: the smallest Christmas tree, up to one and a half meters high, can be purchased for about one and a half thousand rubles, further, of course, more. But sellers often offer not native spruce near Moscow, but imported, Danish, which costs twice as much. But she, they say, costs longer, and crumbles less, and looks neater.

But this record was also broken. In 2010, in the United Arab Emirates, the most expensive Christmas tree in the world was installed in the lobby of the seven-star Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi. According to hotel director Hans Olbretz, the tree is adorned with 181 precious stones. Its height is almost 13 meters. The cost of the tree itself is about 10 thousand dollars, but its jewelry - diamonds, pearls, emeralds and sapphires - cost 11.5 million dollars. In addition, the tree is strewn jewelry(bracelets, necklaces, rings).

The idea to decorate the Christmas tree in this way belongs to the hotel's marketing group, in order to increase hotel visitors, as well as sell jewelry. And they succeeded. There is no end to visitors, everyone is trying to take a picture next to this unusual Christmas tree. It is impossible to steal decorations from the Christmas tree, because the tree is under continuous video surveillance.

The tallest Christmas tree in the world

Until recently, Brazil was ahead of everyone in this nomination with an 85-meter Christmas tree. But in 2011, the honorary status of the state that established the highest New Year's tree passed to Mexico. The height of the Mexican spruce was 110.35 meters, the diameter was 35 meters, and total weight its metal structures and decorations reached 330 tons.

Of course, Vasily believed in Santa Claus and that a snowman brings us a living Christmas tree from the forest. I bought a Christmas tree and collected snow in a plastic bag. She put the Christmas tree right under the door and scattered snow along the landing. She rang the doorbell and left in the elevator. Vasya opened the door, a Christmas tree fell on him. He saw that the entire site was covered in snowdrifts. Our neighbor was seriously afraid for her mind, not understanding why it snowed on the site ...

About 200 workers have been working on the creation of a giant Christmas tree in Mexico City since the end of October. They decorated it with numerous toys of impressive size and electric garlands, for which they needed 80 thousand meters of cable. The grand opening of the New Year's tree, the height of which is equal to a 40-story building, notified the population of the Mexican capital about the beginning of New Year's Eve celebrations and festivities, in which, according to representatives of the mayor's office, about 3 million tourists will take part, as well as a significant part of the 19 million population of the capital

By the way, the highest Christmas tree and the largest Christmas tree are two different nominations. And the record for the size of the Christmas tree was set in Italy, not far from Milan. There, for many years now, they have been laying out with light bulbs the silhouette of a Christmas tree 445 meters high and almost 300 meters wide. This composition flaunts on the mountainside, playing with colored lights.

The world's largest floating Christmas tree

In Brazil, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, the world's tallest floating Christmas tree, 85 m high, is installed. Mounted on solid platforms, it adorns the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon. The weight of the beautiful Christmas tree is 530 tons. At the top of the spruce is a star resembling a cross, and two small angels symbolizing the world. The tree is covered with 2.9 million light bulbs, which are connected by light wires with a total length of 52 km. The illumination of the Christmas tree is controlled by a computer, thanks to which various lighting effects are created.

The smallest Christmas tree in the world

Another evidence of the approach of Christmas was the appearance of whole spruce forests on the squares of Moscow. This opened the sale of Christmas trees. At the beginning of the 20th century, forest beauties were traded only in two places: on Voskresenskaya and Teatralnaya squares. But they didn’t stand on the Theatrical Christmas tree, as before, but lay, because December turned out to be snowless, and there was no crust, where sellers usually stuck the bases of trees. Instead of Santa Claus with Christmas trees on their shoulders, delivery boys walked to different parts of the city, contracting for 10-15 kopecks to deliver the purchase to the right address.

A few years ago, a Japanese craftsman created the smallest Christmas tree that could only be seen under a microscope - its length was only 5 mm, and the branches were decorated with a scattering of the smallest emeralds and diamonds. The work of art itself was made of white gold. With a multiple increase, one could see the amazing skill of the master - each golden needle is carefully polished, each gem equal to the previous one in shape and size.

But this record lost under the onslaught of the Russian "left-hander". A Christmas tree measuring only 1.5 mm, decorated with pure gold balls, was exhibited at the Vrubel Museum in Omsk. This New Year's masterpiece was created by our famous microminiaturist Anatoly Konenko. We also note that the Christmas tree miniature was made by a craftsman on a poppy seed. A bunny 0.8 mm high sits next to the Christmas tree.

The most sustainable Christmas tree in the world

Ecology is the most relevant topic for styling Christmas trees. To determine here the undisputed leader, perhaps, is impossible. We will describe only the unconditional contenders for victory in this nomination.

A Christmas tree made from bicycles handed over for recycling by the owners was installed in Sydney. It took eight weeks and one hundred bikes to assemble and install. The height of the tree exceeds seven meters. To give the tree more natural look, bicycle frames were painted green, and the wheels were painted in different colors, turning them into a kind of Christmas tree balls. At the top of the Christmas tree, according to tradition, a star, also assembled from bicycles, was installed. We also note that in the same Sydney, eco-friendly Christmas trees were previously installed from empty plastic bottles and old office chairs.

There are many other examples of sustainable Christmas trees. So, in Madrid there is a Christmas tree in the style famous game Pac-Man made from thousands of LED bulbs. In New York, a men's clothing store shocked visitors with a Christmas tree of trendy and expensive ties.

The most romantic Christmas tree in the world

A 15-meter Christmas tree, which lights up from kisses, is installed in one of the shopping centers in central London. The romantic effect is achieved by 50,000 LEDs that use the energy of a kiss to burn. In order for the Christmas tree to flicker with white and red lights, it is enough for lovers to stand under a sprig of mistletoe, which is part of the exposition, and, holding on to it, kiss. An electronic scoreboard is installed under the tree, which shows the number of kisses.

The most military Christmas tree in the world

In 2010 year South Korea lit a giant Christmas tree near the North Korean border. The New Year's tree was a 30-meter metal structure with 100,000 colored lights. It was installed at an altitude of 165 meters above sea level in such a way that it was perfectly visible to the residents of the North Korean city of Kaesong. Pyongyang immediately accused its southern neighbors of a "propaganda war" and threatened with an "armed response." South Korean Defense Minister Kim Gwang-jin said that "the possibility of provocations from the north always remains," therefore, in the event of a possible shelling of the Christmas tree from the DPRK, South Korea "will commit an act of retaliation by suppressing the source of artillery fire." Fortunately, the New Year's tree still did not lead to bloodshed.

The most delicious Christmas tree in the world

In Belgium, the capital of chocolate and confectionery, in 2010 a twenty-meter-high Christmas tree was put up. It would seem that nothing unusual ... if you do not know that the whole tree is made of sweets. For example, the trunk of a Christmas tree contains black and milk chocolate with nuts, needles are made of marmalade and marzipan, toys are made of marshmallow, sweet cheese and apple strudel. The only thing that was inedible in the decor was a garland consisting of several million tiny lanterns.

The most fragile Christmas tree in the world

In 2006, Venetian craftsmen from the island of Murano made the world's largest blown glass Christmas tree. The height of the Christmas tree, designed by the famous master Simone Cenedese, was 7.5 meters and weighed 3 tons. The artist's creation has become an interpretation of modern holiday traditions and symbols. Local craftsmen carefully keep the secrets of its production. However, this time, the manufacturers of the “record holder Christmas tree” admitted that they themselves turned to architects for help in order to design a sustainable structure.

In Italy, a ceremony was held to light the world's largest Christmas tree. On this occasion, we decided to review the largest and most famous symbols of the New Year.
