Then tear off a few leaves from a bunch of leaves. lower leaves, clearing the barrel by three to four centimeters. Dry the top prepared for planting, and then immerse it two centimeters in water until the roots appear. After the roots appear, the plant must be planted in a pot, the diameter of which is slightly larger than the plant itself. Any soil will do. Watering should be moderate. For a couple of months, pineapple does not need to be disturbed, rearranged and fertilized.

A pineapple photophilous plant. After two months, the plant should be watered rarely, but plentifully, pouring water directly into the leaf outlet. Also, this exotic needs constant spraying. The best fertilizer for pineapple is mullein. When using mineral fertilizers, their dosage should be reduced by half. After a year, the plant can be transplanted into a larger container.
Optimum temperature for pineapple in summer it is considered 22-25°C, and in winter 16-18°C. It propagates by lateral shoots, which are cut at the moment when they have roots. Especially if before sowing she managed to lie down and dry. Therefore, it should be kept for a while wet soil or sphagnum, in a warm place without drafts. The air temperature should not fall below 20°C, and the ground should be warmed up to 25°C. Otherwise, the bone will die.

For planting kiwi needs to be proper training planting material. Seeds selected for planting should be well washed from the pulp. You can facilitate this process if you leave them together with the pulp on a flat dish for two days at room temperature. The pulp that has begun to deteriorate will more easily move away from the seeds. Then the planting material must be dried a little and planted in grooves 1 cm deep. The seedlings that have appeared must be thinned out, no more than two seedlings should be in a container with a diameter of 9 cm. After they grow up a little, they are transplanted again, already planting the plants in separate pots, substituting a support for each.

And this plant begins to bear fruit no earlier than the 3rd year.

How to grow pomegranate at home

Another plant that can be grown in the winter garden is punica. In other words, a room pomegranate. The tree can grow up to 1 meter tall and bloom every year. The time has come for planting, the migration of seedlings from the windowsill to the garden and painstaking worries about the future harvest. Fresh, without unnecessary additives, fruits delight much more than purchased ones. And for those who do not have their own plot, Bright Side advises not to be upset, but to try to grow fruits directly from the seeds at home or even at work.

Of course, the fruits will have to wait, and in some cases for more than one year. However, growing fruit is a good anti-stress, as well as an occasion to get closer to colleagues.

Citrus

Citrus fruits, which include lemon, tangerine, orange, grapefruit, etc., have a rich aroma and can be experimented with almost all year round. The seeds for sowing must be fresh. Planting them is quite simple: we wash the seeds and plant them in a moistened mixture of garden soil, peat and river sand or special soil for citrus fruits. It is best to immediately plant each bone in a separate pot or cup.

It is very important to provide the plants with sufficient lighting, but protect them from the midday sun, as well as dry air. In addition, in winter it is necessary to keep citrus fruits at a temperature of 12-16 degrees.

Date fruit

Even from the seed of a dried date, you can grow a palm tree. Before planting, it is better to pre-soak for a few days. Plant it in a mixture of peat and sand and don't forget to moisten it with a spray bottle every 2 days. In about a month, the future palm tree should sprout. Like citrus fruits, dates require plenty of light and a cool winter.

feijoa

The seeds of this exotic plant should be selected from a ripe and soft fruit. If the purchased feijoa is not yet ripe, you can put it in a warm place and wait a few days. Seeds should be washed from the pulp and dried. Without digging deep, we put the seeds in the ground with sand.

The plant can sprout and germinate fairly quickly. Therefore, do not forget to plant the sprouts, pinch the main root and transplant, together with the old soil, into a larger pot.

figs

To grow the unfig fig tree, you need to do the same as with feijoa seeds: rinse, dry and put shallowly in moist soil. Sprinkle the soil a little with sand and cover with a film. For figs, you should find a warmer place. The first shoots will be in about 3 weeks, if you regularly moisten the ground and ventilate the room. In the warm season, keep the temperature at least 20 degrees, and in winter - no higher than 14 degrees.

passion fruit

If you plant passion fruit seeds, most likely, not a fruitful tree will grow, but a liana that will delight you with its luxurious flowering. However, who knows, maybe you will be able to achieve a juicy fruit at home. Passion fruit loves everything that pleases tropical plants: bright light, plenty of air, heat and high humidity.

Avocado

There are two ways to grow this storehouse of vitamins from the bone. In the first case, we remove the shell from the bone, plant it with a wide side to a depth of 2-3 cm, so that the tip protrudes above the surface. The second method is called open: we leave the shell and drill 3 small holes at an angle of 120 degrees at the level of the middle of the bone. 3 matches are inserted into them, which will be supports along the edges of a glass of water. The water level must be maintained exactly under the bone. As soon as a sufficient number of roots appear, the bone can be planted in a pot.

Before the leaves appear, the plant needs an air temperature of about 18 degrees, and in winter, avocados like coolness.

A pineapple

Pineapples don't have seeds, but you don't need them to grow them. It is enough to cut off the top from it with 2 cm of pulp and plant it in wet sand, for example, river sand. Pineapple loves water and will need to be watered frequently. In a winter garden, this fruit does not always produce the same fragrant fruits as its southern comrades. But growing it at home is quite realistic.

Pomegranate

A win-win option is a dwarf pomegranate, which bears fruit even in mid-latitudes. He will calmly endure aridity, but not a lack of heat. A dwarf pomegranate will delight with flowers and bear fruit almost all year round already with a growth of 40 cm. The average yield is 7–10 edible fruits up to 5 cm in diameter.

Many novice gardeners know that same feeling when a fragile sprout suddenly sprouted from a seed planted by your hand.

A fragile sprout breaks into the light from the seed

For some, there is a feeling of a miracle and involvement in Nature. Others turn on God Mode. But in a closed space, and even in winter, both often result in uncontrolled botanical ecstasy, and the seeds of all the exotic fruits found in the area are sent to the ground in generous handfuls.

“If you plant this seed, you will grow a whole peach tree, all hung with juicy peaches.” Photo from the site choklingtersar.ru This is understandable: growing a lemon, pomegranate, or even a peach from a seed is much more interesting than buying a finished plant or getting it from a cutting. Let's try to find out which fruit seeds can be planted and what such experiments can lead to at home.

From pits to citrus

Mandarin, orange and their hybrid clementine, lemon and lime, grapefruit, pomelo (sheddock) and their sweetie hybrid (oroblanco), mineola (a kind of tangelo - a hybrid of mandarin and grapefruit), kumquat (aka kinkan or fortunella), limequat (kumquat hybrid with lime), orangequat (hybrid of kumquat with unshiu mandarin), calamondin (citrofortunella), etc. - representatives of the genus Citrus are beautiful, fragrant, many-sided and available for experiments almost all year round.

Representatives of the genus Citrus are beautiful, fragrant, many-sided and available for experiments almost all year round. Seeds selected for sowing should be as fresh as possible: without additional moisture, their germination decreases every day.

General recommendations landing quite simple: wash the seeds and plant them in a well-moistened mixture of garden soil, peat and river sand (or in a special soil for citrus fruits). As soon as the sprouts have 1-2 true leaves, they need to be seated. And it is better to immediately sow them in separate pots or cups.

Citrus seeds are interesting because you never know what will grow out of them: they seedlings, especially hybrids, usually do not retain varietal characteristics your parents. A wildling will grow from a citrus seed, and you may have to wait 10 years for your own harvest. Therefore, if your goal is to collect lemons or oranges directly from the windowsill, it is better to find cuttings of the right varieties and plant your seedlings. This can be done one and a half years after landing.

If your goal is to pick lemons or oranges right from the windowsill, it is better to find cuttings of the right varieties and plant your seedlings.

Excellent rootstocks grow from the seeds of a lemon, orange or grapefruit - healthy, strong and originally adapted to home conditions. But kumquats, tangerines and various hybrids are more capricious and are not suitable for rootstocks: their root system is not so powerful.

Despite the generic "community", citrus fruits behave differently when grown from seeds. Tangerines, for example, are "slow" in growth, but not so demanding on the composition of the soil. The first shoots from mandarin seeds may appear in 3-4 weeks. A kumquat planted at the same time will “think” for up to 2 months. Each citrus has its own timing of flowering and fruiting. But they have enough common enemies: dry air, spider mite, scale insect, aphids, etc.

The most popular "supplier" of material for citrus experiments was and remains lemon. O personal experience growing lemons from seeds you can learn from this article.

Lemon on the windowsill

BUT general rules Home citrus garden care is outlined in the article Tame the bright fruit.

Persimmon from the bone

Diospyros, or persimmon, is a "divine" fruit from the Ebony family, which is rarely seen on windowsills. Meanwhile, it is also quite possible to grow it from a bone. It is done like this:

  • Washed and slightly dried persimmon seeds are planted in moist soil, covered with foil, glass or trimmings. plastic bottle and put in a warm place;
  • We periodically remove the "greenhouse", ventilate and moisten the soil;
  • As soon as sprouts appear, the shelter can be removed.

Waiting for shoots is not long: just a couple of weeks. But if during this time you have not seen them, then they are unlikely to appear at all. However, persimmon germination is not bad. For example, out of three seeds planted by me on 11/23/14, two successfully sprouted. Here is one of the shoots today:

Persimmon seedling 2 months after planting. Photo: herbivicus And here is a funny time-lapse of how this happens:

I also have two plants at first quietly coexisting in one pot. But then the leaves began to turn yellow, so the seedlings had to be planted urgently. At first, transshipment will be required more than once or twice, because. persimmon has a powerful root system that develops rapidly and requires free space. And moisture. Persimmons need regular watering and spraying. Therefore, we carefully monitor the soil, avoiding either overdrying or overflow.

Experienced persimmon growers advise twice a month to feed the plant with fertilizers (mineral and organic alternately). As soon as the "tree" grows to 20-30 cm, you can begin to form it by pinching. In summer, it is better to take the persimmon outside or onto the balcony, gradually accustoming it to the sun. But she needs to provide a cool wintering (+5 ... + 10 ° C): for example, in the basement. If a tree lives at home from November to March, sooner or later it will die.

AT room conditions persimmon grows up to only one and a half meters. If a tree is grafted (by a cutting into a split in winter or by a bud at the end of summer), then it can bear fruit in 3-4 years. Otherwise, the harvest will have to wait for the same amount (and not the fact that it will be).

Read more about the types and varieties of persimmon, as well as how to care for it and where you can get hold of material for planting and grafting, read here.

Dried fruit date palm

I always loved dried dates, but last year these guys surprised me: I didn’t know that something could grow out of them.

Palm trees can be grown from date pits

It turns out, how! Drying dates not subjected to heat treatment. So, their seeds do not lose their germination. And from them you can try to grow a palm tree. Only the bones are better to pre-soak. Although this is not necessary if the product is fresh, i.e. came from his homeland to our shelves recently. But just in case, I played it safe and soaked the date seeds for about a week, changing the water every day. True, she did not scarify and did not suit other dances with a tambourine. I stuck them vertically in a mixture of peat and sand and moistened with a spray bottle every other day or two as needed. About a month later, my future palms sprouted:

date shoots

And here's how they grew in another month:

Date palms 2 months after planting

It’s too early to think about the harvest) Although no one will forbid us to dream, at best, such a miracle in feathers will grow from a date “feather”:

Date palm. Photo from dachnicam.ru

This is provided that she has enough light and space, and I have patience. And, alas, I have not yet come across evidence that she is able to bear fruit in room conditions.

Date palm care consists in regular watering (without overdrying the earthy coma, and watering is minimized in winter) and spraying, airing, providing enough light and conditions for a cool winter. In addition, in the first "five-year period" the plant needs an annual transshipment into a larger pot. But how cool, probably, in the evening to sit down under a palm tree to drink tea!

mango mango

Huge bones are hidden in the fruits of this large Indian guest. "Mango" is even translated from Sanskrit as "great fruit". Its seeds are extracted from ripe fruits, opened, the core is taken out and germinated in a light and loose substrate ( suitable soil for cacti or succulents). Expanded clay drainage is placed at the bottom of the pot - as, indeed, in all other cases.

Mango The middle of the already opened seed is planted immediately. The unopened one is carefully opened (if she is ready for this) - as in this video:

If it is impossible to push the wings apart without effort, the bone is first kept for a couple of weeks directly in the water (the water is changed every other day) or wrapped in damp cotton wool / towel. At the same time, it is extremely important prevent drying out. After the emergence of seedlings, they will have to be sprayed regularly: mango is sensitive to air humidity, as well as light and heat. It does not tolerate cold at all, and even at + 18 ° C it begins to feel uncomfortable. Well, if everything suits him, soon you will grow something like that.

Having decided to grow mango from the stone, be prepared for the fact that you will have to wait for flowering for 5 or even 10 years at best. However, this does not mean at all that the matter will end with fruits: the flowers of this exotic guest are very difficult to pollinate even in vivo, what can we say about the windowsill in foreign latitudes.

feijoa

In the case of feijoa (which is also called acca and belongs to the Myrtle family, which, translated into the language of flower growers, means some difficulties with wintering), the situation is approximately the same as with citrus fruits: varietal characteristics with seed propagation are almost not preserved, which means that the seedlings will have to be grafted. If this does not stop you, keep in mind that the seeds for planting should be taken from a ripe and soft fruit (it will ripen perfectly in a warm place). Small seeds should be carefully washed from the pulp and dried. Sowing should be carried out superficially, without deepening (you can mix the seeds with sand).

If the seeds have enough light, heat and humidity, they will germinate in about a month. In the first months, akki seedlings develop rapidly, so they need

pick

and transshipment, and then pinching to form a compact

Fig tree (fig)

Seeds of figs (figs, or ficus carica) for planting are “extracted” in the same way as from feijoa: they must be carefully washed, dried and sown superficially in moist, loose soil. Then lightly “powder” with sand, cover with a film and find a warmer place for them. They germinate in about 3 weeks, all this time they need to be regularly moistened and ventilated.

Sometimes there are difficulties with fruiting, but some gardeners manage to get

fruit from three to four year old seedlings.

Passion fruit (passiflora)

Passion fruit, also known as passionflower, is actually a tropical vine from the Passionflower family.

Passion fruit, aka passionflower

The fruits of this evergreen beauty from South America are edible whole, including the crispy seeds. However, if you plant them, there is a chance that you will grow a liana, and someday you will admire its luxurious flowering without leaving your home.

Passion flower Just remember to provide it with bright light and Fresh air, warmth, space, high humidity and "enhanced" nutrition.

Lychee

According to legend, one Chinese emperor ordered his gardeners to be executed because they failed to grow this sugary miracle.

Hasn't it since

considered one of the most problematic candidates for growing from seed at home? But this is true, if only because the "Chinese plum" is one of those rare plants, which needs

mycorrhiza

Otherwise, this is a very cute creature with narrow pinkish leaves.

coffee tree

In order to grow such a handsome man from a grain, it is easier to immediately go to Africa, Asia or South America and collect fruits there coffee tree. Seeds ordered in an online store are unlikely to germinate: they lose their germination very quickly (I say this from my own sad experience, it is quite possible that I am wrong, and you will be more lucky). In loose slightly acidic soil and greenhouse conditions with good lighting a coffee bean will eventually turn into a wonderful tree.

coffee tree

What else can be grown from seeds? A lot of things, there would be materials and a place for an experimentarium! For example, our colleagues successfully grow kiwi, medlar and even pepino from seeds. And soon you will find out what happens if you plant avocado and pomegranate seeds.

Growing seedlings is exciting, sometimes even too much.

In general, growing seedlings is an exciting activity.

But over time, you realize that this is a thankful job - for patient, caring and responsible "testers". Eat fruit, plant seeds and wait for sprouts - this is so, the candy-bouquet period. And here the most interesting begins further. After all, the fruits of labor will have to wait for years. And in the literal sense, you can’t wait for the fruits at all (in the case of avocados and date palms, that’s for sure). At the same time, no one canceled the care of the pet - watering, fertilizing, light and thermal conditions. The main thing is to remember that we are responsible for everyone who was planted in a pot of soil and forced to sprout from the seeds. And if difficulties do not frighten you, friendly shoots and generous harvests!

Have you tried growing anything from a bone? Let's share our experience!

Are you ready to replace your favorite begonias or common ivy in your kitchen, living room or office with other, more exotic flowers? The world of indoor plants is much wider than the selection at your local store. Huge flower centers make you believe it. Thanks to online plant suppliers and good, well-coordinated work of employees flower shops who are constantly monitoring remote areas looking for new specimens for our homes, you can grow specimens that are normally found only in places like Madagascar or South Africa. Although these specimens are unusual, even rare, they are no more difficult to grow indoors than any other. houseplants.

desert rose

In the desert regions of Africa and the Middle East, a beautiful desert rose grows. The name says it all: it thrives in hot, dry conditions. Although the plant is shaped like a bonsai tree, it has a wide trunk that stores water in case of drought. Make sure that the flower is in the light, and the pot has good drainage. In winter, plants enter the so-called dormant period, so do not worry if the rose leaves fall off. Keep the flower in a cool, sunny place, and when the temperature rises above 22 degrees outside, expose it to fresh air to stimulate growth.

banana bush

The banana bush is known for its sweet tropical aroma, but it has nothing to do with the herb that produces the well-known fruits. Magnolia brownish belongs to the Magnolia family and forms typical cup-shaped flowers on compact bushes. The latter usually grow no more than a meter in height. Banana shrub can be safely grown at home. All you need is to provide it with partial sun, moderate watering and average room temperature. It will bloom peacefully.

curly bovia

This specimen is an excellent example for those who are still completely new to growing indoor plants, as this flower is able to withstand a wide variety of conditions and will endure even poor care. In spring, the bulb pushes out vigorous shoots with lacy foliage, and in autumn the flowering process weakens. In order for the plant to develop better, you need to install a lattice that will support the foliage. Try to place it in a dry and sunny place.

club moss

This is not a very tall plant, but it fits perfectly in modern houses. The clubmoss grows well in low light conditions, but requires a moist environment. This is an ideal plant for a mini terrarium, and it will also decorate the windowsill throughout the year.

A coffee tree

Arabica coffee is the product that produces the regular coffee tree. This is a drink that keeps you on your toes. Although you can get headaches from waiting for enough berries if you have one on your windowsill. The tree has beautiful glossy foliage and is a member of the Rubiaceae family, so you can expect the fragrant white flowers to precede the red berries that produce the grains.

Coffee plants need moist conditions and moderate light. They are able to grow quite quickly, you can cut them off and they will grow back within a year before flowering.

Guernia

This is one of the most bizarre plants you can have in your home. The wax flowers look artificial, but they are real and come from South Africa. Like other members of the Kutrovy family, guernias need sandy soil and scorching sun for best growth. Keep small plants on a windowsill where you can admire their odd anatomy.

Titanopsis

It is small and very unusual plant which needs rocky soil and in large numbers light, conditions should be as in South Africa because it comes from there. If you are lucky, your specimen may even bloom with small yellow buds, but they only please a couple of days.

Mimosa bashful

Not surprisingly, this flower supported the belief that plants have nervous system and feelings. Although we now know that the sudden movement of leaves in response to touch is actually the movement of water in plant cells, the reaction of the bashful mimosa still fascinates the observer. This plant is considered a weed in tropical areas. Lots of sun and moderate watering are the best care for this unusual indoor specimen.

Tacca

This is perhaps the only flower of its kind with gloomy dark petals and long hanging shoots that are classified as bracts. They are thin threads growing from a flower. If you can grow an orchid, then you can grow this exotic specimen. The flower needs good lighting, high humidity and excellent air circulation.

So if you find yourself in mall or visit an online store, do not look closely at familiar plants. It is better to pay attention to the exotic, which will please the eye.

Yes, yes, you can arrange your own exotic plantation. Some fruit crops, atypical for the flora of our climatic zone, can be grown at home directly from the seeds.

This is familiar to many beginner gardeners. The same feeling that you experience when a fragile sprout suddenly hatches from a seed planted by your hand.

I stuck them vertically in a mixture of peat and sand and moistened with a spray bottle every other day or two as needed. About a month later, my future palms sprouted:

And here's how they grew in another month:

It’s too early to think about the harvest) Although no one will forbid us to dream, at best, a palm tree will grow from each date “feather”.

Provided that she has enough light and space, and I - patience.

Its seeds are extracted from ripe fruits, opened, the core is removed and germinated in a light and loose substrate (suitable for cacti or succulents). Expanded clay drainage is placed at the bottom of the pot - as, indeed, in all other cases.

The middle of the already opened bone is planted immediately. The unopened one is carefully opened (if it is ready for this).

If it is impossible to push the wings apart without effort, the bone is first kept for a couple of weeks directly in the water (the water is changed every other day) or wrapped in damp cotton wool / towel. At the same time, it is extremely important not to allow drying out. After germination, they must be regularly sprayed: mango is sensitive to air humidity, as well as light and heat. He absolutely cannot stand the cold, and even at +18 he begins to feel uncomfortable.

Having decided to grow mango from the stone, be prepared for the fact that you will have to wait for flowering for 5 or even 10 years at best. However, this does not mean at all that the matter will end with fruits: the flowers of this exotic guest are very difficult to pollinate even in natural conditions , what can we say about the windowsill in foreign latitudes.

feijoa

In the case of feijoa (which is also called acca and belongs to the Myrtle family, which, translated into the language of flower growers, means some difficulties with wintering), the situation is approximately the same as with citrus fruits: varietal characteristics are almost not preserved during seed propagation, which means that seedlings will have to be grafted.

In the first months, akki seedlings develop rapidly, so they need picking and transshipment, and then pinching to form a compact crown.

Sometimes there are difficulties with fruiting, but some gardeners manage to get fig fruits already from three to four year old seedlings.

Passion fruit (passiflora)

Passion fruit, also known as passionflower, is actually a tropical vine from the Passionflower family.

The fruits of this evergreen beauty from South America are edible whole, including the crispy seeds. However, if you plant them, there is a chance that you will grow a liana, and someday you will admire its luxurious flowering without leaving your home.

passionflower flower

Just do not forget to provide her with bright light and fresh air, warmth, space, high humidity and “enhanced” nutrition.

Lychee

According to legend, one Chinese emperor ordered his gardeners to be executed because they failed to grow this sugary miracle.

Since then, has lychee been considered one of the most problematic candidates for pitting at home? But this is true, if only because the "Chinese plum" is one of those rare plants that require mycorrhiza. Otherwise, this is a very cute creature with narrow pinkish leaves.

coffee tree

In order to grow such a handsome man from a grain, it is easier to immediately go to Africa, Asia or South America and collect coffee tree fruits there. Seeds ordered from an online store are unlikely to germinate: they lose their germination very quickly (I say this from my own sad experience: it is quite possible that I am wrong, and you will be more lucky). In loose, slightly acidic soil and greenhouse conditions with good lighting, the coffee bean will eventually turn into a wonderful tree.

Growing seedlings is exciting, sometimes even too much.

Indoor orange is also a dwarf variety, and according to growing conditions it is close to lemon. There are only some differences - he does not like straight lines very much. Sun rays, so it is better not to put it directly in front of a sunny window. He also loves moisture very much - it must be sprayed in the warm season, but in winter - only watered. For an orange to have beautiful shape, it needs to be trimmed, it has a tendency to grow disproportionately. With fruits, it is somewhat more complicated than with a lemon - in order to get fruits, an orange tree must be grafted from another, already bearing fruit.

Indoor pomegranate is very decorative. The fruits, respectively, are also dwarf, and in order to get them, it is better to pollinate the flowers manually with a brush. The tree grows up to 1 m tall. In flowering, it is not inferior to the most beautiful indoor flowers. Light and heat (23 - 25 degrees) are his favorite conditions, he does not need special humidity. propagate it better cuttings but can also be grown from seed. The figs will be guaranteed to bear fruit in the room, and will begin fruiting as early as the first year. The figs are rooted with a sprig, which must have at least 3 buds, and this is done in the spring. In addition, fig seedlings can be found on sale. The conditions for caring for figs are the same as for citrus fruits, but there is one major difference: this is a deciduous tree. It sheds leaves around October, and then it needs to provide a dormant period for two months. This is not difficult: you need to put it in the coolest place in the apartment, and tighten it with a dark cloth (for this you need to build a kind of frame around the plant, on which the fabric will be stretched). If the cottage has a basement, you can transport the plant there. Rarely watered during this period. Then new buds will begin to appear at the tree, and it is again put on the windowsill.

You can organize your indoor fruit garden in different ways, but in any case, you need to group the rooms in one place, arrange them beautifully: higher ones in the background, lower ones in the front, and alternate them so that they are as different as possible next to each other. on appearance plants. In the selected corner of the room, you can put individual colored ceramic tiles, and put the pots on them, or put beautiful light stones between the pots - large pebbles, or large shells. Be sure to take care of fruit plants- for them it is best to choose ceramic containers. For citrus fruits, pots are especially suitable.
