- what a joy! I thought, rubbing my hands in anticipation of a quick application of plaster and a new interesting experience. What happened in the end? Read more…

A plaster shovel does not work without a compressor - this is understandable. Which compressor to take and where are the first questions that appear. As written in the instructions, this tool requires a compressor with a capacity of up to 400 l / min with maximum pressure at 6 atmospheres. To be honest, I already forgot which one I rented - yes, it turned out to be easy to find a compressor for a day, there are enough ads - but during work it seemed that there was a little lack of power. As soon as the solution became a little thicker, it reluctantly began to fly out of the holes of the shovel. But a more liquid consistency was splashed out instantly!

Construction mixer and diluted plaster Typhoon Master No. 28 in an ordinary household can (turned out to be 2 cheaper than building black trays :)

Actually, the fact that loading a shovel is really enough for 3-4 seconds is written in the instructions. They also offer to work with a plastering station, which provides a continuous supply, well ... But the fact that up to 10 kg of plaster can be loaded into a shovel is a myth. In reality, it won’t work out that much, both because of the weight (it becomes difficult to hold it), and because the mixture begins to actively flow out even before the lever is turned on.

plaster shovel Russian production from Promtechosnastka (aka bucket, hopper, etc.) lies in the scaffolding

But something I ran ahead - after all, not everything turned out to be so simple with the connection to the compressor! When we arrived to rent it and tried to connect it on the spot, the coupling (or whatever it is called :) turned out to be of a different diameter. The distributors did not have adapters, so I had to go to construction market and look for this garbage, which will connect the shovel to the compressor. We walked around the whole market and found only in one place ...

What else is in the instructions? Well, for example, that in an hour this shovel can process up to 50 square meters working area. Is it so? How much faster is it than manual application? And is it faster? The last question may arise, because the consumption of plaster with this shovel still turns out to be more than if you do everything by hand, but you need to knead it, serve it up, pour it into a bucket and then in a circle ...

Plaster shovel - top view

I must say that it is still faster to work with it even in this mode described above. The volume that I did about 6 hours with this plastering shovel turned out in about 4. I can be wrong now, because. I didn’t write it down exactly, but there was a strong feeling that the process was still going faster :)

The first layer of lime plaster on straw wall made with a plaster shovel

Well, the moment that must be taken into account: a shovel is good for creating the first layer of plaster, when you need to do a lot and quickly, without thinking about quality, and when working “under a fur coat”, when finishing plaster does not align. Then it saves time. Otherwise - think for yourself what is called ...

P.S. I found where you can buy crushed stone cheaply - just what you need - and only then I realized that it was far from me and in another country in general. What is the insidious Internet doing))

P.P.S. Write what else you would like to know about this shovel - I will answer. Well, if someone needs to rent - contact us too.

To optimize finishing processes and speed up work several times, a tool such as a plaster shovel is often used. And although this device is quite popular, many masters do not have sufficient information about the features of its use.

In our article, we will try to eliminate this gap in knowledge by describing the device of this device and the method of its use when leveling walls and ceilings.

Description of the mechanism

Design features

In most cases, a small plaster spatula - a trowel - is taken to apply the mortar to the prepared surface. However, in this case, the work will take quite a long time, since a very modest portion of the leveling compound can be put on the trowel blade at a time.

When processing large areas as an alternative to manual application, special devices are used - hopper buckets. Otherwise they are called plaster shovels.

What is this device?

  • The basis of the device is a steel container of considerable volume. This container is intended for laying a large portion of the plaster, which will be applied to the surface to be leveled.
  • The plaster is applied to the wall or ceiling through special nozzles. Some models are equipped with one nozzle, while others (of course, their price is higher) can work in three or four streams at once. This significantly speeds up the work.
  • The supply is carried out by entering the hopper with a solution compressed air. The hopper bucket requires a compressor to operate.

  • To ensure an even supply plaster mixture, the pressure in the system should be maintained at 4 atmospheres. However, some masters recommend setting this figure at 5-6 atmospheres, especially when working at a distance from the compressor. This allows you to compensate for pressure losses when air moves through the hose.

Note! Here are the average operating pressures. As a rule, the instructions for each specific model contain more detailed information, and it is necessary to focus on it.

  • Solution flow can be adjusted using special valve. By pressing on its lever, we increase the pressure, which leads to an increase in the speed of plaster spraying onto the wall.
  • For convenience of work hopper buckets are completed with long handles. For high-quality models, the handles are equipped with overlays made of porous material, which makes it easier to hold a rather heavy tool in your hands and makes work more comfortable in the autumn-spring period.

It should also be noted that today plaster shovels are produced in two modifications - wall and ceiling. The main difference between these types of device is the location of the hopper: it is oriented so that the solution does not spill out during operation.

Hopper Bucket Application

The method of using this device with your own hands is quite simple:

  • We prepare the surface for plastering by performing mechanical leveling with a perforator and applying a primer.
  • kneading plaster mortar, selecting the consistency in such a way that the resulting mixture passes unhindered through the hopper nozzles.

Note! When mixing, you should be guided by the recommendations of the bucket manufacturer, but still required skill only comes with experience.

  • We load the solution into the container and apply pressure until the nozzles start to work.

  • Stepping back from the wall to a distance of half a meter and increasing the working pressure to the maximum, we spray.
  • After the base layer has dried, we cover the wall with plaster from a distance of 15-20 cm. At the final stage, move the bucket 3-5 cm for a more dense application and eliminate voids.
  • Next, dry the solution and perform its grouting.

After finishing work, the plaster shovel should be cleaned:

  • We remove the remains of the solution from the bunker with the help of .
  • We release all the air, remove the container (if provided) and thoroughly rinse all parts.

Advice! May be required mechanical cleaning nozzles clogged with the remnants of the solution.

  • We assemble the device again and blow the system several times to remove liquid and plaster particles.

Advantages and disadvantages

As for the advantages that the use of a hopper bucket provides when working on, they are as follows:

  • Firstly, the speed of work increases at least twice compared to the manual method of application. This time estimate also takes into account the preparation and cleaning of the bucket, so in fact the savings will be even greater.

  • Secondly, when applying the mortar using a plastering shovel, the loss of material is minimized. This is due to the formation of a thinner, denser and more continuous layer. Thus, we significantly reduce the cost of finishing the building.
  • The quality of the finish is also improved, as the increased impact force ensures that the finish adheres more firmly to the substrate.
  • Another an important plus of this device is ease of use. Any worker can use the hopper bucket after a brief briefing.

As for the disadvantages, they include:

  • Rather high cost of the instrument itself. Of course, there are also budget models on the market, but in any case, a high-quality bucket will cost much more than a set of trowels, trowels and spatulas.
  • The need for a compressor. Not only is the compressor itself expensive, but it requires either fuel or electricity to operate. So savings in solution are usually offset by energy costs.

However, when it becomes necessary to perform a large amount of work, these shortcomings are not paid attention to. For private construction, the most rational solution would be not to buy, but to rent a hopper.

Conclusion

A plaster shovel is a device with which a leveling compound can be applied to walls much faster than traditional method. The use of this device allows you to optimize Finishing work and reduce labor costs for leveling large areas. The technology of use is shown in more detail in the video in this article.

This section presents pneumatic equipment "hopper", the principle of which is to apply plaster and building mixtures on the treated surface under high pressure compressed air. Classification of equipment is carried out according to the principle of the sequence of work - hopper buckets - for the initial application of building mixtures to the surface (primary rough finish) and texture hopper guns - for decorative finishes(application decorative plaster, putties, thick paints, liquid wallpaper, primers, drying oils and mastics), which we have included in this category.

Hopper bucket - simplest way to mechanize the processes of plastering surfaces.

Principle of operation: Ready solution it is scooped up with a hopper bucket from the tank, the bucket is brought to the wall at a distance of 2-5 cm. By pressing the handle, air from the compressor is supplied through the hose to the hopper bucket and the solution in the hopper is sprayed under high pressure. Application speed - 120 kg of dry mixture for 4 minutes.

Advantages of using a hopper bucket:

2. Ergonomics (assembly/disassembly speed of the unit - less than 10 minutes).

3. Solution savings of 30-40% (due to greater adhesion than with manual application, rolling and falling of the material from the wall, as well as its spillage is almost zero).

4. The quality of application (due to the impact of the mixture on the wall during application, its adhesion to the surface increases, as a result of which the density increases finished construction, the possibility of cracks disappears).

5. Operation of the compressor used to supply air to the hopper bucket from a 220V network (none of the existing stationary plastering stations are designed for single-phase connection, all other stations operate only from 380V).

6. One of a kind compressor. Peak power among 220V compressors!

7. No need to purchase additional consumables and spare parts. parts.

8. Plaster hopper bucket applies all existing mortars, both ready-made and own cooking! There are also no strict criteria for the formulation of the solution, density, water content, plasticity - you adjust it yourself.

9. The speed of application of the material is increased by 4 times compared to manual application!

Plastering HOPPER BUCKET - how does it work?

The ready solution is scooped up by a hopper bucket from the tank. The air from the compressor is supplied to the nozzles located at the base of the hopper bucket, and the mixture is sprayed onto the treated surface. The emptying speed of the bucket capacity, weighing 9.5 kg, from 3 to 5 seconds.

The technology for applying the mixture with a hopper bucket on the finished surface is quite simple:

1. Initially, beacons are set (at the discretion, depending on the characteristics of the surface or application technology);

2. In the case of shotcrete work, a reinforced mesh is installed:

3. The solution is being prepared (because the process of applying the hopper bucket takes place with high speed(consumption is at an average tamp - 2 bags of 30 kg of the finished mixture for 3-4 minutes of bucket operation), we recommend using mortar mixers for ready mixes or concrete mixers for DSP, clay and other mixtures with a low water content;

4. Directly applying the material to the surface (depending on the nature of the material, it is necessary to choose the optimal throw distance - an average of 4 - 6 cm from the wall);

5. Alignment of the applied plaster with the help of a rule, grouting irregularities after drying.

6. Washing the hopper bucket after operation (just dip upper part bucket hopper into a bucket of water and blow out the nozzles by pressing the trigger, then remove the remaining solution from the surface of the bucket).

IMPORTANT! If it is necessary to take a break in work, the hopper bucket should be dipped into a bucket filled with water, the nozzles should be blown out by pressing the trigger and left until the work is resumed in order to facilitate the cleaning of the hopper bucket after work.

Using the Hopper Bucket with compressors of our company, you can get the following features and benefits:

Affordable price for a separate Hopper bucket (plastering shovel), as well as a better price for a set (mini plastering station assembly)

Payback hopper bucket - in just one day!

Simplicity and convenience of operation of the hopper equipment

Simple structure and interchangeability of bucket hopper parts, favorable maintenance

No mechanism

Reliability and durability, high quality Ruhopper hopper buckets, full control at the production stage

Working with a Hopper bucket is available to anyone, and without professional skills. So, one worker can plaster 60 square meters. meters in a layer of 1-2 cm per hour.

Time for plastering work is reduced by 3-4 times.

The impact force of the mixture on the surface is much higher than with manual application, therefore, the quality of the applied concrete increases.

Thanks to this technology of applying plaster, the consumption of the mixture is significantly reduced for two reasons:

Thin applied layer;

Reducing the consumption of material on waste.

By the nature of my occupation, I learned almost everything in this life, and up to a certain point I considered myself an expert. To some extent, this is true, because by the nature of my activity for more than 10 years I have been engaged in repair and plumbing work. Sometimes we take the object on a turnkey basis, sometimes we get only one type of work. The situation is familiar to my colleagues. You have to be a jack of all trades. Therefore, when they say you need to lay tiles - lay tiles, paint - paint, plaster - plaster. Naturally, all works have different costs, different labor costs, but for some time now this statement has not been entirely true.

The trick is that this rule was established in those ancient times, when rates were approved uniform throughout the Soviet Union and average working conditions were taken as a basis, simply the classic manual labor. Which, for the most part, he still is. I will undertake to show by my own example that any work can be equally profitable if one treats one's time with respect.

In a word, at a fairly large construction site, it's time to plaster the domestic premises for the subsequent laying of tiles. In addition to ours, there were two more brigades. When hiring people, the customer proceeded from his experience and the time period that he allotted for plastering work.

In a word, the entire scope of work was divided into three parts. This greatly facilitated our task, since we did not have to wait for the entire object to be ready, the calculation could be obtained by handing over our part of the work. A couple of months before this event, one of my acquaintances showed me a certain hand tool - a plaster shovel, which he brought from abroad as a commodity for trade. I appreciated it, but now the time to try it has come only now. My comrades in the shop know how expensive it is now good tool and how much you need, so I didn’t buy it for the future, but then I got worried - is there any more. It turned out there is. A compressor was required for the shovel, since the principle of its operation is from a jet of compressed air. I will not hide, I did not succeed in persuading the brigade to immediately bear such expenses. We agreed on a compromise - we buy for common ones, but if it does not justify itself, I will reimburse. They said they did it. After 2 days, questions about the compensation of the purchase could no longer be.

Now about the tool. I will not describe the classic technology of plastering, I will only say that the plasterer’s hand should be “stuffed” and not everyone can plaster well, so we have a clear division of duties and two out of five people plaster, three for give - bring, although their work not easier. I will not talk about preparatory measures, since this part, regardless of the plastering technology, must be completed.

I'll start right away with the plaster itself. The tool itself is a “shovel” or a hopper bucket, a fairly simple device with a handle and a bucket for the mixture.

Bucket capacity 9.5 kg. A hose from the compressor is connected to one side of the handle. Inner diameter hose 18-20 mm. You can work. They plastered lighthouses. I won’t describe how to set up beacons either, there are no differences in this classic process. Let me tell you about my first impressions. On the first day, we ordered 0.5 cubic meters of solution (usually we take 0.75-1.0 cubic meters if the surface is prepared) and, in fact, smoked all day, because they laid the entire solution by one person in an hour and a half. The solution is delivered to the facility once a day, and we almost lost that day, almost because we managed to drive for the second shovel. The next day they asked for 1.5 cubic meters. We were immediately warned that the frozen solution was at our expense. In excitement, they worked it out until three hours without lunch and gave the rest of the day to themselves, it was Friday.

All subsequent days they ordered 2.5-3.0 cubic meters, as a result they received the nickname Stakhanovites. At the intermediate stage, we got an unexpected result, it turned out that by 1 square meter we have a solution consumption of 10-15% less, the answer was found simply, nothing falls off the walls, 100 percent of the solution goes into action. The division of labor with us is a thing of the past, helpers were put on the shovel without risk when they got tired of bringing the solution. Quality and performance did not suffer. On the video you can see how the process went.

Have made experiment. They plastered a dry sheet of plywood, placed vertically. The solution lay down. It's almost impossible to do it manually.

In the process, they plastered in places in 2 and even 3 layers, since the walls were terrible. Between the application of the layers gave a gap of about three hours. Other walls were being prepared or plastered at this time.

In a word, we finished our part very quickly and already had another order, much larger.

Now more about the shovel. This is a completely ready-to-use tool. You just need to connect the hose and you can start working.

Switching on is carried out by pressing the handle of the air cock. I was very pleased with the quality of materials - stainless steel and bronze. The quality of workmanship also did not cause any complaints. Very comfortable rubberized handles allow you to work without stress, besides it is convenient to operate.

Nozzles optimal size, and does not flow and pebbles 5-8 mm do not clog. Gypsum mixes also tried. Works without issue. For more liquid mixtures, bushings were placed in nozzles with a smaller opening. Productivity decreases, and the thickness of the applied layer too, but it works confidently. The main thing on gypsum mixtures is to wash the ladle every hour, otherwise it increases, the capacity of the ladle decreases. The walls of the bucket are thin, so it is advisable to avoid impact method cleaning it.

In addition to shovels with horizontal nozzles (wall) there are ceiling shovels. We did not have to use them, but I think that there will be no problems with them either.

Photo of a ceiling shovel.

Photo of a ceiling shovel.

Photo of shovels from above - ceiling, from below wall.

The photographs show the main distinguishing feature: for wall bucket located to hold the solution in the horizontal plane, for the ceiling in the vertical.

In conclusion, I will say that with this tool it is possible to obtain smooth plaster, textured "Fur coat", with the help of wooden slats (rectangular or special, "seam" profile) it is possible to obtain the texture of masonry from natural stone torn or hewn.

In the following articles I will try to tell you how, using other tools from the “take it and work” series, you can reduce the consumption of the plaster mixture, speed up and simplify the laying process tiles. Everything will be given own examples with mandatory photo and video reports.

The main goal of my stories is to show, using my example, the expediency of using simple tools that greatly increase labor productivity without sacrificing quality, and often even quality.
