The super prefix added to different products often turns out to be just a marketing ploy, without fundamentally changing anything in performance characteristics. Super PVA glue is a product of the Soviet industry of the late 80s. True, it was then called differently and for its time it was very revolutionary.

From the history

GOST 18992-80, dated 1983, described the requirements and characteristics of a plasticized PVA dispersion, which one-to-one coincides with the same qualities of a modern product called “Super PVA D3 glue moment”.

But in the Soviet nomenclature, the marking was different - DF51 / 15V.

After decoding, it can be understood that the active substance is a high-viscosity PVA dispersion, with a volume fraction of 51%. 15% dibutyl phthalate is added as a plasticizer.

Characteristics and purpose

Of all the polyvinyl acetate adhesives, super PVA has the highest adhesive power, declared tensile strength, more than 50 kg / cm 2. The biological safety characteristic meets the increased requirements. Withstands up to 6 freeze/thaw cycles. The addition of a plasticizer in this volume made it easier to mix with water. In this case, the emulsion does not precipitate.

In descending order, here are the recommended areas of application:

  • wood;
  • shoes and leather;
  • cardboard;
  • polygraphy;
  • package;
  • repair work.

Yes, it is the tree in the first place. Woodworking companies often choose this adhesive as their main adhesive.

AT Soviet time DF51/15V was used in the tobacco industry(!).

Adding this glue to cement mortar, improves the waterproofing properties of the screed and increases adhesion when gluing tiles.

To get a transparent adhesive for polycarbonate, some manufacturers went to the trick. During the manufacturing process, they add ethyl cyanoacrylate to the emulsion. Small amounts of this additive increase the optical properties of the glue joint, but worsen its elasticity. Such a product is produced under the brand name glue moment super PVA. But according to an objective assessment, compared to other adhesives for polycarbonate, it wins only in price.

Instructions for use

Precautions should be observed only if you have an allergic reaction to a certain group of repellents. The fact is that the plasticizer, dibutyl phthalate, in its pure form is used to repel mosquitoes, and its concentration in PVA glue is super, quite high. To prevent possible reddening of the skin of the hands, we recommend the use of latex gloves. Otherwise, this glue is safe.

To understand how to glue with PVA glue with high quality, you must firmly master the following rules:

  1. The surfaces to be glued must not be dusty.
  2. Degreasing is the key to a quality seam.
  3. Reliable fixation throughout the day important condition for polymerization.
  4. Compliance temperature regime is the foundation of successful work.

After mastering the above rules, the instruction is quite simple. Optimum temperature for bonding 18-25°C. Please note that the parts themselves must have this temperature, and not just the air in the room. The surfaces to be bonded must be cleaned of all excess. This is best done with fine sandpaper. Moreover, the use of sandpaper will increase the surface roughness, which leads to an increase in the contact area and thereby improve cohesion.

The cleaned and sanded surface must be wiped with a volatile solvent. In addition to degreasing, this procedure will remove dust. The presence of dust sharply reduces the adhesion of glue to the part.

PVA dispersion is applied in a thin layer on both surfaces and left for 6-8 minutes. During this time, on each part, the adhesive penetrates into the thickness of the material by several microns and already begins the polymerization process. Then the glued surfaces are pressed against each other, and securely fixed. Please note that, unlike adhesives containing solvents, when working with PVA crucial has a fixation duration. The minimum time for reliable setting is 24 hours at a temperature of 20-25°C.

Important! Full polymerization of polyvinyl acetate takes place within 7 days!

Only after this time, adhesive line acquires the declared characteristics.

Of course, if you glue cardboard, then you don’t have to wait so long. But when working with furniture, compliance with the exposure time is highly desirable. When gluing wood, carefully following the instructions leads to a paradoxical effect - the glue line of PVA glue is super, it becomes stronger than the product itself. In other words, when the load is exceeded, the piece of wood itself will break, and not the glue line!

It is best to remove excess glue immediately after application. You can do this with a damp cloth. After drying and complete polymerization, only scraping with a knife or sandpaper. The action of household solvents causes swelling of the polymer film, and does not lead to dissolution.

Glue "Moment Joiner" is well known in the domestic market of construction chemicals. The composition is produced at the Russian production facilities of the German concern Henkel. The product has established itself as an excellent adhesive suitable for the repair and production of wood products, it is widely used in everyday life and in production.

Peculiarities

The composition of the "Joiner" includes a polyvinyl acetate dispersion with the inclusion of special plasticizers and additives that improve the adhesive properties of the material and increase the reliability of the connection. No toxic and poisonous substances are used in the manufacturing process of Moment glue, which makes the material environmentally friendly and allows it to be used in the repair of household items. The chemical safety of the product is confirmed by a quality certificate and certificates of conformity that meet strict European standards.

Thanks to special additives, the adhesive composition does not violate the structure of wood fibers. After drying, it is invisible. The scope of the tool is quite wide. Glue is successfully used when working with any kind of natural wood, plywood, chipboard and fibreboard, cardboard, veneer and laminate.

It is allowed to work with the composition at temperatures above 10 degrees and relative humidity not more than 80%. When working at low temperatures, the adhesive may lose its high adhesive properties, and the bonding will turn out to be of poor quality. The average material consumption is about 150 grams per square meter surfaces. The dried composition is compatible with all types paint and varnish products, therefore, if necessary, the glued thing can be painted or varnished.

Advantages and disadvantages

The high consumer demand for Moment Stolyar glue is due to a number of positive properties of the material.

  • The moisture resistance of the glue allows the use of objects glued by the “Joiner” in conditions of high humidity.
  • Due to its good heat resistance, the adhesive is able to withstand temperature loads up to 70 degrees. This is very convenient when working with veneered elements that require heating during installation.
  • Excellent adhesion and a short setting time allow you to quickly form a strong and durable joint. "Joiner" refers to express trains, so working with it significantly reduces repair time.

  • The time for complete drying of the butt joint is no more than 15 minutes.
  • Connection durability. Bonded surfaces will not lose their adhesion throughout the entire service life of the repaired product.

To disadvantages include low frost resistance of the composition and certain requirements for wood moisture: repaired products must be used at positive temperatures, and wood moisture should not exceed 18%.

Varieties

On the modern market household chemicals the lineup joinery adhesives is represented by five series, differing among themselves in composition, conditions of use, time of primary setting and complete hardening.

"Moment Carpenter Clay Express"- a universal moisture-resistant agent, produced on a water-dispersion basis and intended for gluing wood different breeds, as well as fibreboard and chipboard, veneered products and plywood. Full setting time is 10 to 15 minutes depending on the temperature environment and wood moisture.

The glue has high moisture-resistant properties, does not contain solvent and toluene. The product is suitable for working with paper, cardboard and straw, which allows it to be used instead of stationery glue for crafts and appliqués. After applying the composition, the working surfaces must be pressed tightly against each other. You can do this with a vice. Also, products can be pressed down with a book or other heavy object.

The product is available in tubes weighing 125 g, in cans of 250 and 750 g, as well as in large buckets of 3 and 30 kg. It is necessary to store glue in tightly closed containers in the temperature range from 5 to 30 degrees.

"Moment Carpenter Super PVA"optimal solution for gluing wood of various species, laminate, chipboard and fiberboard. The glue is available in red cans, has a transparent structure and is almost invisible after drying. The moisture resistance of the material corresponds to class D2, which allows it to be used in dry and moderately damp rooms. The carpentry composition is suitable for working with paper-laminated plastics, straw, cardboard and paper, which allows you to do crafts with children without fear harmful effects. Complete setting of the solution occurs after 15-20 minutes.

"Moment Joiner Super PVA D3 waterproof"- a universal mounting compound that can withstand repeated freezing and thawing, designed for gluing wood products and laminated surfaces. The water resistance limit is determined by the DIN-EN-204 / D3 index, which indicates the high water-repellent properties of the material and allows the use of products repaired with it in high humidity conditions. The product has performed well in repair work in kitchens, bathrooms, toilets, as well as an assembly tool when gluing parquet and laminate.

"Moment Carpenter PVA universal"– water-dispersion based adhesive, suitable for gluing elements made of any tree species, MDF, fiberboard and plywood. The tool has a short time full setting, transparent structure and does not leave colored and cloudy spots on the tree. The index of the initial strength of the primary setting is 30 kg per cm2, which characterizes the excellent adhesive properties of the product. The main condition is that the surfaces to be glued must be tightly fixed for 20 minutes. Adhesives on a water-dispersion basis have a strictly defined amount of water in their composition, therefore, it will not work to further dilute the agent to increase the volume, otherwise the proportions will be violated, and the mixture will lose its operational properties.

"Moment Carpenter Instant Snap"- a universal moisture-resistant agent, made on an acrylic water-dispersion basis, intended for any wood. The initial setting time is only 10 seconds, which refers to the composition of the second adhesives and requires careful use. The solution is easy to apply and leaves no residue. The product is excellent for gluing wood to metal, PVC to plastic, withstands up to five cycles of short-term freezing.
