On such a board, you can write which or whose (if there are several children in the house) toys are stored in one or another box.

The board can be glued to the box.

Bench with drawers

From several boxes you can make just such a shop.

Treat the boards and paint them if necessary.

Sandpaper (if needed)

Screwdriver and bolts

Acrylic or spray paint

Wheels (optional)

Small piece of plywood (for seating)

Filler

* A soft seat can be omitted, but it still adds charm to your product.

1. To make a seat, prepare plywood, attach a dense fabric to it from several sides along the edges, leaving room for the filler. Insert the filler and fasten the fabric to the end.

3. Attach the seat to the box with a screwdriver and bolts.

4. You can attach wheels to make it easier to move the seat.

* If you have extra plywood, you can make a drawer shelf out of it, which can be attached using corners.

What can be made from boxes: bookshelves

On the pictures you can see bookshelves from boxes. All of them take up an entire wall in the bedroom, but they all look very pretty.

Boxes can be processed and painted. They are connected with bolts, and if necessary, they can be attached to the wall so that they do not fall.

Do-it-yourself compact garden from boxes

From wooden cargo pallets and crates, you can create a multi-level garden where you can grow flowers and herbs, for example.

To do this, you need to fix a tight seal inside each box. polyethylene film. To make this easier, use a construction stapler.

Shelves for small flowers, books and other little things from plywood boxes

Small drawers can be turned into such cute shelves for small things. If necessary, the drawers can be processed with sandpaper, and if they are painted, they become even more beautiful.

Please note that the boxes were painted one color on the outside and another on the inside, which gives them a very nice look.

Such shelves are attached to the wall, but they can also be stored on the floor, in a closet, on a balcony, window sill, etc.

Kitchen table made of wooden boxes

If you have several large boxes lying around or wooden pallets, you can make a kitchen table out of them.

Treat the drawers with sandpaper and paint in a color suitable for the interior.

Coffee table from drawers

If you connect 4 drawers in a certain order, you can make a pretty coffee table.

Pay attention to how the boxes are connected.

It is also worth noting that it is desirable to process and paint the boxes with varnish or brown paint to make them look even more like a coffee table.

Wheels can be attached if desired, although this may require attach a few plywood boards(which will better fix the whole structure)to the bottom of the table and only then attach the wheels.

Purchased interior items can be practical and attractively priced, however, the more popular the brand and the lower the cost, the more likely it is that half of your acquaintances at home will have exactly the same lamp, chair or chest of drawers. That is why, many are trying to give a more attractive and original appearance factory furnishings. This article will help you transform cheap wooden boxes that you can find in the stores of the notorious Swedish brand IKEA. Let's try to turn a minimalist wooden IKEA chest of drawers for those who like to put everything in drawers into unique item for aesthetes.

Tools and materials for dresser decor

  • chest of drawers IKEA
  • oak panels (veneer, 4mm)
  • wood stain dark brown
  • acrylic paint beige
  • glues: PVA, double-sided tape, wallpaper glue (optional)
  • bronze handles with screws
  • piece of flax
  • decorative paper
  • felt sheet thin dense (optional)

IKEA dresser decor using improvised materials

To begin with, we need to have wooden chest of drawers IKEA or its equivalent from another store. We begin the alteration of the chest of drawers by sanding the skeleton of all drawers, since they are usually not processed very carefully. We remove all protruding fibers and especially pay attention to the edges and corners.

In order to paint the boxes in one go and put them quietly to dry, you can put them on a small object. Use ordinary tablet candles, then none of the painted sides touch the newspaper and you don’t need to fix something later.

The front of the drawers with their cutouts is too remarkable, this is already business card these dressers. Firstly, such a system of handles is inconvenient for me personally. Secondly, I've always liked drawers that fit tightly together. facade panels(almost seamless). That's why I ordered laser cutting oak veneer (4mm) of the sizes I needed (it cost about 500r, which is quite inexpensive). I took the dimensions with a gap between the panels and with allowances on the sides. I got 85 × 84mm, but it's worth measuring in place.

Oak panels are also stained with stain so that the color is the same for the entire box. Now we glue. The box is placed on an elevation of the desired height (in this case these are wooden rulers, 2mm) and only then the panel is glued. So under the box, when it falls into a niche, the lower gap is hidden.

At this stage, it already looks so good that there was a desire not to continue and leave the drawer opening system without handles.

We wax the entire body, facade and all edges of the drawers.

Advice: to paint the box, it is better to go to the store and buy one tube of very high quality acrylic desired color(about 250 rubles). This will help save time on endless tinting (especially if there is not enough paint), on the number of layers (this box is painted in one layer), on nerves and so on and so forth. To paint the entire box in one layer, just one tube of acrylic (60 ml) is needed.

We make all the drawers together and fasten the handles. You can also slightly tint the edges and edges of the drawers with a patina.

We make the bottom for the boxes. As planned, it should be upholstered with linen. To do this, we cut out a rectangle from cardboard, 2 mm less than the bottom of the box and fit it, bending the edges of the fabric to the other side. We fix all this with glue and double-sided tape, and then install it in place.

We glue the bottom of the drawers with designer beige paper from the outside. To do this, you can glue on wallpaper glue, after dipping a paper sheet in water. This method will give a perfectly even tension when the paper dries. You can do the same with PVA.

At the end, we age the paper around the perimeter with watercolors.

We do the same with the chest of drawers. I glue in the niches in the center of the Alice in Wonderland stamp.

And at the bottom of the box, so that it does not scratch the table and the surfaces of the shelves, we glue a thin gray sheet fert.

I sign the labels in the handles of the boxes, here I took purple paper and inaccurately put stamps with numbers.

The advantage of the design of these pens is that the tags can be easily changed (pulled out from above) according to my mood, for example, if I want to make ink strokes on a light background.

So far, the idea was to make a minimalistic, strict chest of drawers, in the color of my interior.

Even if you are just getting acquainted with decoupage, it will not be difficult for you to turn an ordinary storage box into a luxurious piece of furniture with the help of beautiful napkins and a couple of simple materials.

We have already described how to make a rack box with your own hands, and today in this photo master class you will learn how beautifully it can be designed. Yes, it is so beautiful that it would serve you not only as an organizer for storing things, but also become a decoration for your home.

So, you will need:

  • preparation of a slatted box and two wooden linings,
  • acrylic art primer (black),
  • acrylic paints,
  • decoupage napkin,
  • special decoupage glue or PVA glue,
  • acrylic lacquer,
  • flat synthetic brushes

Priming and painting

Sand the wooden surface of the workpiece, including the overlays, with coarse-grained sandpaper and cover with black acrylic primer. The black color will later show through the top white layer when creating the scuffed effect. Leave the painted surface to dry completely.

Paint all sides of the box, batten and trim with white acrylic paint. In this case, white chalk is used, which in this work can be replaced with ordinary building acrylic.

Let it dry for a while.

Do not leave the surface to dry overnight or more. long time, because during this time the paint will completely polymerize, after which it will be more difficult to create the effect of antiquity.

With a damp cloth, we erase the white layer of acrylic from some areas, thereby creating the effect of light scuffs.

Decoupage

In this master class, a printout on a napkin is used. The white background of the picture allows you to apply the application without cutting it along the contour. When sticking, the torn edges of the napkin will easily merge with the white surface and become invisible after drying. If you have a drawing on a napkin with a colorful background, then in this case the image must be carefully cut out.

Think over the location of the picture on the sides of the box and apply a little decoupage glue to the appropriate places - then the picture will lie flat and without wrinkles. Attach a picture (it is more convenient to use the file method) and with an almost dry brush press it more tightly to the surface, carefully soaking it in a layer of glue.

When the glue is completely dry, cover the surface with one layer of acrylic varnish.

Aging

As a patinating composition, use acrylic paints. Mix burnt umber and ocher colors in the palette, dilute them with drying retardant or water.

Patination is better small areas.

Apply the paint with a flat brush to the surface and rub in a circular motion with your fingers until it dries completely. Control the degree of darkness. If more patinas are needed, repeat. Excess can be gently wiped off with a damp cloth.

Let's add light splashes of black paint.

Finally, darken the worn edges of the box with bituminous varnish. To do this, moisten a piece of sponge in bituminous varnish, remove excess on paper and paint the worn areas of the surface with a semi-dry sponge.

Cover the finished work with 1-2 layers of acrylic varnish.

I decorated the overlays with milky lace. So the box for storing my paints became even more comfortable.

Secure the lining with screws or instant crystal glue.

Voila! Ready!

This box is very lightweight and easy to use. In the kitchen, it will serve you to store vegetables or jars of spices, in the children's room for toys, and in the workshop, as in my case, to store your favorite paints.

Foundation preparation

You can remove the old cover from the chest of drawers different ways: using washing liquids or a building hair dryer. Both options are quite effective.

Use of flushing fluids

To remove the old coating from the wooden surface of the dresser, it is convenient to use washes. This may be the well-known drug Antikras-Universal. Optimum temperature for work with composition from 8 to 25⁰C.

To remove grease, it is necessary to treat the surface with a solvent, and to free from dirt, it is enough to rinse thoroughly with water. After cleaning the surface from contamination, treat it with a remover, then leave for 5-15 minutes.

Using a building hair dryer

In order to get rid of paint with a building hair dryer, it is necessary to heat the paintwork layer, moving from bottom to top. Due to the hot air, the temperature of the paint will rise and it can be easily removed with a spatula. This must be done after the hair dryer until the surface has cooled down.

Putty

After you have cleaned the chest of drawers from old paintwork, it's time to start puttying. Wooden furniture often contains cracks, loose knots, chips and other damage. Such defects must be puttied, otherwise, after painting the chest of drawers, they will come out. Acrylic putties are best suited, and they can be applied with a rubber or steel spatula.

Grinding

After puttying, the surface will have various kinds of irregularities and roughness. For this reason, grinding is necessary, which will remove visible imperfections. Sandpaper No. 160-200 is suitable for this. If possible, it is put on a grinder, and if there is none, then the surface is manually leveled.

The purpose of the chest of drawers and its color

When choosing a design for a chest of drawers, it is important to consider in which part of the house you will put it: bedroom, living room, nursery or dining room.

Bedroom furniture should have many drawers different sizes, such models are presented in abundance on the Ikea website. As a rule, the upper compartments are small, designed to store accessories and linen. The lower ones are more impressive, you can put bedding in them. If you attach a mirror to the tabletop, you will be able to combine the chest of drawers with the dressing table.

The color of this piece of furniture for the bedroom is better to choose calm pastel colors. It can be colors: beige, pale pink, white, milky, cream.

Chests of drawers for the living room are more of a decorative function. Such furniture is decorated with beautiful carvings or all kinds of inserts made of leather, rattan and even precious metals. Color palette must fit under overall design rooms.

If the chest of drawers is designed for the kitchen, then models with opening doors are best suited, as well as drawers. The color should be in harmony with the rest of the furniture in the room and the tone of the walls.

For a nursery, a chest of drawers with large drawers is suitable, in which you can put toys, books, pencils and all accessories necessary for a child. This time you can experiment with the palette.

Plastic products are best coated with acrylic paints or other dyes on water based. Brushes to choose good quality. It is better to overpay and achieve the desired result than save money and end up with damaged furniture, the surface of which will be covered with brush hairs.

  • for a thorough painting of furniture parts, brushes of various widths may be needed.
  • even if you decide to work as a roller, small parts it is better to work with a brush.

Before starting the process, the surface must be coated with a primer. The compositions are best suited for acrylic base. When choosing a material, you need to pay attention to three points: drying time, the area of \u200b\u200bthe treated surface and the color, which must match the tone of the paint.

Apply the primer in a small layer and be sure to let it dry. After that, you can start applying acrylic paint.

Furniture varnishing

If the chest of drawers was made of solid wood, then its surface can be varnished in several layers. Coverage should be chosen responsibly, the result of the work will depend on it.

There are special varnishes designed to work with furniture. You should not take ship varnish or the one that is intended for the floor. These compositions can spoil the appearance of the interior.

There are two types of varnishes: water-based and solvent-based. It is better to choose the first option, since it does not have bad smell. This makes it possible to work without personal protective equipment. In addition, these compositions dry quickly.

  • transparent PVA glue.

From a sheet of wallpaper, you need to cut out a part with an allowance of 10 cm. Glue it on the facade of the chest of drawers, turning the edges inward. To avoid swelling of the wallpaper and the formation of wrinkles, the sheet must be carefully smoothed with a dry cloth or a special spatula. When the surface is dry, cover with clear acrylic varnish.

Waiting for complete drying inside, carefully make a hole for the handle. In the same way, linen or cotton fabric can be glued to a wooden surface.

Idea #2: Stencil Lettering
