However, in the US and Europe, individual manufacturers make them 1–1.22 meters wide.

Production process

The process begins with the fact that in a special device - a pulper, a substance of a liquid consistency is mixed. It is called pulp and is made up of cellulose fibers and liquids. The main liquid is water, and additional - chemical elements. The proportions of fibers and liquids are strictly observed so that the product retains its unique qualities at the output.

The liquid pulp from the pulper after cleaning enters a kind of table-conveyor several meters long. While she "floats" on this table, excess moisture is removed from her. It turns into a plastic dense mass.

The remaining water is squeezed out of the mass by passing it through the press shafts. The press rolls the substance into uniform, still plastic sheets of great length. Further, these sheets of neutral color are stained with special compounds that penetrate deep into the sheet and improve its waterproofing.

The pigmented sheet material enters the next conveyor, which gives it a relief shape. After the formation of the corrugation, the already wavy ondulin is sent to the drying chamber.

Inside the chamber there are devices for supplying natural gas. The air temperature in it is 270 degrees. Such an atmosphere hardens the sheets and finally dries them. From there roofing material is sent to the production guillotine, where it is cut into fragments of standard width and length.

The final (and most important) stage is the impregnation of the finished euroslate fragments. To do this, the sheets are immersed in a pool several meters long, which is filled with hot bitumen. The solution temperature is 200 degrees.

Impregnation lasts a quarter of an hour, and it is this procedure that makes ondulin absolutely waterproof.

After impregnation in a bituminous pool, the sheets of material are cooled by irrigating cold water, and then sent along the conveyor to cool naturally. Sheets are delivered to laying machines already cooled down to 50-60 degrees. Then they are kept in the warehouse for 3-4 days until completely cooled and sent for packaging. During this time, bitumen becomes a full-fledged part in the composition of the material and serves as a reliable waterproofing.

This results in a lightweight, durable and cheap material for long-term operation.

Composition and properties

Raw materials for the production of euroslate are multicomponent. It consists of a base of fibers, liquids, mineral dyes, plasticizers, impregnation.

The basis is cellulose fibers and fiberglass. To make a pulp out of them, cellulose is soaked in water with the addition of chemical or mineral components (each manufacturer has its own secrets) and processed. The mixing process resembles the rotation of a centrifuge, and the cellulose is cleaned of all unnecessary substances, therefore, in production, the pulper is often called " washing machine". Various resins are used as hardeners and hardeners. The coloring of the material occurs due to mineral dyes, and protection from harmful effects environment provides bituminous impregnation.

Euroslate, which is made according to all the rules in compliance with the technology, has standard specifications.

  • Overall parameters. These are the width, length and area of ​​the sheet, as well as the height of the corrugated wave.

    Sheet width - 0.96-1 m, length - 2 meters. The area is 1.92 m2, the wave height is 3.6 cm. The thickness is up to 6 millimeters.

Decking and ondulin have many similarities.

Both materials support combustion. However, ondulin sheets simply melt, releasing bitumen vapors that are unpleasant to the smell, and the slate begins to explode.

Onduvilla is a type of roofing material similar to ondulin in terms of technical characteristics and composition of raw materials, but differing in appearance. It does not imitate the surface of a slate, but the surface of a tiled roof.

Onduvilla is not produced for as long as euroslate - about 10 years. But she took all the best from the technologies for the production of ondulin, which are improving from year to year.

The useful area of ​​​​one sheet of euroslate, like its weight, is not a universal characteristic. Many European manufacturers offer 4 types of ondulin: classic, compact "Smart", "Diy", each of which has its own characteristics and overall parameters.

  • Ondulin is plastic, but in no case should the sheets be stretched wide. Even if it is harmless at first glance 1-2 mm, the roof will be damaged.
  • The sheets are overlapped. Vertically - to a width of 1 or 2 waves, horizontally - by 10-20 cm.
  • For cutting sheets, not a ruler is used, but a narrow piece of ondulin.
  • It is recommended to cut the sheets with a wet hacksaw for wood.

Sheets are laid according to the universal scheme.

  • The first sheet is applied to the bottom corner with allowances in length and width. Usually to the left, but if the prevailing wind direction is from the right, then to the right. The allowance in length will cover the eaves, and in width - the wind board.
