Landscaping and planning

Drapery of walls with fabric is one of the most ancient ways of decorating rooms, which was used by architects in the Middle Ages.

With the help of drapery, you can not only decorate the walls, but also hide their irregularities and defects.

The popularity of the method

Recently, designers are increasingly using this decorating technique in modern interiors. This is due to the fact that this method of designing a room has many advantages over others:

Methods for decorating walls with fabric: a - fastening the fabric to the wall, b - checking the verticality of the folds using a plumb line on a cord.

  1. Walls pasted over with fabric have a more stylish, “rich” look.
  2. This method of decorating allows you to hide all the shortcomings of the "rough" finish (make the unevenness of the wall invisible, hide the wiring).
  3. Wall cladding with fabric is easy to do with your own hands.
  4. The use of textiles allows the walls to "breathe".
  5. Ideal pre-preparation of the walls is not required, as for painting.
  6. Additional protection against noise and low temperatures is possible.
  7. This type of finish can be done in a new room without waiting for it to shrink, since the elasticity of the material will not allow it to deform.
  8. A sufficient amount of textiles with a variety of widths are now being produced, which makes it possible to make the decoration of the room seamless.
  9. Works on decorating walls with fabric are characterized by the practical absence of dirt and debris.

All these advantages, as well as the ability to sheathe the walls with your own hands, make this method of finishing more and more popular.

Textiles, which are used for wall upholstery, can be very different. It can be natural materials and synthetics, different in color, texture, pattern and density. The most popular viscose, which perfectly combines best qualities natural and synthetic material.

By combining textiles of different colors or textures in one room, you can achieve a visual separation of it into functional zones. With the help of decorating the walls with a fabric with your own hands, you can give the room the effect of comfort and warmth.

Basic rules to follow

In order to perform such a decoration method yourself as wall upholstery with textiles, you must follow a few rules:

  1. For work, you need to use durable matter that allows air to pass through and does not fade in the sun, otherwise after a while the wall upholstery will lose its original appearance.
  2. In a room that is decorated with textiles, it should not be very hot and humid, as this can lead to stretching of the fabric, after drying it can be deformed.
  3. You should start with pre-treatment of the material, it must be wetted and dried. Most likely, it will shrink a little, so you need to measure the fabric only after wet processing. In addition, it is desirable to treat the fabric with dirt-repellent impregnations.
  4. If it is possible for you to finish the walls with fabric seamlessly, you need to start from an absolutely even corner or a place where the seam obtained at the junction can be decorated.
  5. Ideally, the width of the material should match the height of the walls.
  6. Textiles for decorating walls must be purchased with a margin, since this material is still short-lived and, most likely, restoration work will be required after a while.
  7. The adhesive is applied to the wall, not to the material.
  8. Wall attachment points can be closed ceiling plinth or decorative strip.

There are three options for decorating walls with textiles. This one may seem complicated at first glance, but it's actually much easier than just wallpapering the walls.

Fastening the material with glue

This method requires accuracy and a little experience. For this type of work, the walls must be prepared very high quality. They must be absolutely smooth and dry. It is best if the only joints are the joints of the pieces of material in the corners. If this is not possible, then it is necessary to cut pieces of fabric in advance, required size. As a rule, glue is applied only at the edges. First, a strip 10 cm wide is applied to the left edge of the wall, the material is applied and smoothed with a roller. Then glue the top side and only after complete drying attach the remaining two sides. In the design process, you need to remember some subtleties:

  1. The fabric on the wall should not be stretched, because the adhesive used for these works, even after warming up, can change its shape. The fabric may form a wrinkle.
  2. On the edges of the glue you need to use a little more. This is necessary in order to fix the fibers of the edge of the fabric, which may begin to unravel over time.
  3. Watch carefully for air bubbles. You can fight them with the help of small punctures with a needle and re-ironing the fabric in this place.

Wall decoration with fabric can look so chic that it becomes difficult to understand why our compatriots have not yet made this solution the most common among all others. You can even make such repairs with your own hands, and most importantly, the design will be completely atypical! In a way, the finished result will be something like a wallpaper, but it is, figuratively speaking, like a 3D movie with glasses compared to the usual 2D.

Wall decor with fabric for many is a real novelty, so you should carefully consider whether it is worth taking on such a design. Like any other design decision, it has both positive and negative sides.

Advantages

Decorating walls with fabric is:

  1. Unique chic, underlined by soft features - no other material will give anything even similar.
  2. The special comfort of the room, in which all the bumps and sharp corners are smoothed out.
  3. Lack of preliminary preparation of walls that do not need to be specially leveled, unless it is a question of gluing fabric instead of wallpaper.
  4. Protection from most mechanical damage - the material simply stretches under load, without forming breaks or cracks.
  5. Increased, in comparison with paper wallpaper, sound insulation.
  6. Material with textured surface can replace decorative plaster without losing the rest of its positive qualities.
  7. Wall fabrics are available in a wide variety, which allows you not only to choose from a variety of finishes, but also to combine the color and texture of the walls with curtains or linens.

Textile wall decoration is elegant and cozy, however, when deciding on such a finish, you should know all the pitfalls

Difficulties

There is nothing absolutely perfect in the world yet, so wall decoration with fabric also has a couple of dubious points that claim to be shortcomings:

  • The fabric on the walls is able to collect on itself great amount dust, which is especially important in big cities and close to trails. Developers have already created materials that repel dirt, but the price of them remains quite high.
  • Textiles are not among the most durable materials. More precisely, it can be preserved for a long time, but it appearance quickly loses its original freshness. No matter how hard the manufacturers try, the material is still quite easy to stain or wipe to such an extent that it becomes noticeable. As a way out, it is not recommended to attach fabric to walls in narrow aisles, and ideally it is generally better to fix it in such a way that it can be removed and washed.

Material selection

If, despite all the difficulties, a decision was made in favor of textile design, it remains only to decide on a specific type of material. Theoretically, there are no restrictions on the choice at all, and the owner of the premises is free to choose what he likes. If we focus on practicality and durability, then the fabric used for wall decoration should be strong and elastic so that there is no constant need to replace damaged material. If you buy fabric for furniture upholstery, you will definitely not be mistaken, because in terms of performance it is approximately the same. If the material was originally intended for finishing, then surely the manufacturer has already properly processed it, and it will be more convenient to work with it.

It should be noted that when focusing on do-it-yourself repairs, the choice of material should be given Special attention, because the method of fastening depends on it, and they differ in complexity.

Methods for attaching fabric to walls

Each type of textile has its own characteristics, which makes the craftsmen fasten the fabric in different ways. Deviations from the norm are possible, but most often it is better to stick suede, velvet and velor, drapery of walls with fabric suggests thinness and lightness of the material, and so on.

pasting

In this variant, the result obtained, perhaps, will most closely resemble expensive wallpapers. Pasting walls with fabric is relevant literally everywhere, even aprons for kitchens are made using this technique, just the material on top is either varnished or covered with glass. Any towels, tablecloths, curtains and other items sewn from the same textile allow you to create a harmony in the design of the room.

The process of gluing walls with a cloth is somewhat similar to gluing ordinary wallpaper, however, is more complex and requires more precision

Sticking the fabric directly to the walls is perhaps the most difficult of all the other options. Since we are talking about an analogy with ordinary wallpaper, then the wall, firstly, must be properly prepared - cleaned, puttied, primed. The gluing procedure itself also requires great care - in general, it will be better to trust the professionals.

If, nevertheless, it is decided to carry out repairs with your own hands, then first you need to check the degree of shrinkage of the material. To do this, a small piece is cut off, soaked in water, then dried. The dimensions of the piece are measured before and after the procedure, and if there is not much difference, then you can start gluing. If shrinkage is obvious to the naked eye, then you will have to wet and dry the entire roll. Material preparation also includes pre-ironing.

Unlike wallpaper, the fabric is not glued in strips, but immediately on the entire wall - for this, the strips pre-cut with a margin are sewn together. To keep the seams as small as possible, it is better to take a wide cut. Before the final gluing, the seams are once again carefully ironed. Although such a sheet is usually attached only at the edges, at least two people will be required for this procedure. It is desirable to start from the side, continue from above. If the material is heavy, on top of it, already glued, small slats are carefully stuffed, which are not removed until the glue dries. The surface of the wall in the process is carefully smoothed out with a roller. At the end of the work, the excess fabric at the edges is carefully cut off.

Upholstery

Only at first glance, upholstery with fabric seems to be a simple task, which anyone who has ever held a hammer can do with their own hands. The problem is that for the perfect evenness of the resulting woven surface, the upholstery of the walls with fabric is carried out not on the walls themselves, but on top of a special frame, by analogy with stretch ceilings or drywall. To cope with such a task on your own is quite difficult, but possible.

Wall upholstery with fabric construction companies, who, however, are also ready to help those customers who want to try to do the work with their own hands. You can buy fastener parts and a seamless fabric that does not need stitching from them. This method of fastening is good because there is no need for preliminary preparation of the wall, and the void can be filled with sound or heat insulation, and electrical wiring can also be hidden there. A ready-made mounting system, purchased from a specialized store, makes it relatively easy to remove installed textiles for replacement or washing.

Wall upholstery with fabric using removable wall structures allows you to remove soft panels for cleaning procedures

upholstery

Draping the walls with fabric is the easiest way for those who want to get off with a minimum of effort. Such a finish usually does not imply a full-fledged fastening of the fabric to the walls over the entire surface; it falls freely, in folds. Wall drapery, which is always performed with folds, involves only fixing textiles on a horizontal bar hidden under the ceiling.

The cut with which it is planned to drape the wall must be much wider than it, otherwise the folds will not work.

Fabric in the form of an original exception can be attached immediately on four sides of the cut. Frames made of wood, plastic or metal can act as a basis. In this case, the folds must be thought out in advance, it is better to immediately highlight them with small seams, otherwise it is not possible to predict exactly how the roll will develop after the walls are draped.

Wall drapery with fabric is used to create either an oriental or European aristocratic style. This arrangement is appropriate for living rooms or living room, as well as in public places.

Decorating the walls with carpets and fabrics began many centuries ago. In the East, the tradition has survived to this day to hang a tapestry instead of partitions or paint the walls and paint them with gilding to imitate expensive embroidered material.

Drapery of walls with cloth adorned palaces in Greece and Rome. Even when the first paper tapestries appeared, the interior of the living room looked more luxurious with drapery with expensive fabrics. Wallpapers were glued by low-income people, the nobility and wealthy merchants preferred to drape the walls of the house with fabric.

Methods for decorating walls with canvas

long time upholstery with fabric was an expensive pleasure, accessible to a few. Gradually, the quality of the fabric changed; relatively inexpensive textiles appeared that met modern requirements interior. Kirill was interested in handsome wall material, suitable for any style and turning into a decor. Now my assistant wanted to know how to decorate the walls with fabric with his own hands. There are several technologies for finishing fabric on walls instead of wallpaper:

  • Drapery.
  • Wallpaper.
  • Seamless pasting under the rail.
  • Finishing with frames and frames.

By analogy with the walls is done stretch ceiling. The material must be prepared to size, create a pattern, wet it and pull it onto the prepared frame, attach it with clips around the perimeter and glue it with moldings or a ceiling plinth. Fabric wall decoration is better than paint:

  • Luxurious and unique interior design.
  • Suitable for any style.
  • Enhances the sound-absorbing effect of walls.
  • Keeps warm.
  • Quick change drapery, washable.
  • No need to level the walls and eliminate minor defects.
  • You can quickly glue the room without a single joint.

There are disadvantages, for example, the kitchen, with its dampness and smells, is not suitable for covering with absorbent material. Lining is possible in the dining area, but it is desirable that it be leather or upholstery impregnated protective compounds. Textured and loose material traps dust on its surface, absorbs dirt and moisture.

Drapery - elegant walls of banquet halls

Decoration with soft falling waves is used in halls for celebrations and banquets, in living rooms, in preparation for the holiday. The photo shows a fabric decor that can be replaced quickly by repeating simple steps step by step with the already finished material. The fabric must be prepared:

  1. Sew a solid canvas, the width is greater than the wall, since the finish should hang in waves.
  2. Hem the top and bottom, maintaining the height of the partition.
  3. Starch and smooth.
  4. Fasten to a plank or bamboo cornice.

The advantage of this method is that you can quickly clad the walls, give the hall a decorative and festive look. Then for a short time change the style and theme, decorate the room for the next celebration. The decoration does not need to be glued, it is enough to temporarily hang a soft drape material.

The advantage of drapery is the ability to quickly change the design, wash the fabric, use any finishing option in turn, inexpensively creating a stylish and elegant look. This option did not suit Kirill and me, since we are doing overhaul residential buildings and apartments.

Pasting with stripes according to the type of wallpaper

Instead of paper wallpaper strips of fabric are glued to the wall. The texture is selected dense. The technology is partially different from the method of gluing with a roll finishing material. We had to stick fabric with a luxurious pattern in the living room with our own hands.

Before finishing, it is recommended to check a piece of fabric for shrinkage. I prefer to soak all the fabric that is taken for finishing. Industrial dust and oil from the equipment are washed from it. At the same time I dissolve salt in water, fix the paint, make brighter colors fabric base, I make the material non-combustible. The texture of the fabric is thickened. Now it fits better on the wall and attracts less dust. I had a large work table on which the fabric was smoothed before cutting. The stripes are narrow, so they were glued like ordinary wallpaper.

  1. Cut into pieces with an allowance along the length. We checked the pattern match.
  2. Glue was smeared on the wall, and starting from above, the panel was fixed.

The top edge can be fastened with carnations, then trimmed using lace or fringe.

Seamless pasting and the complexity of its implementation

The height of the children's wall made it possible to glue the fabric across. We did a seamless wall covering.

  • We prepared the fabric, soaked it with salt and smoothed it well, rolled it up face inward.
  • Starting from the corner, the surface of the wall was smeared with casein glue, paying special attention to the perimeter.

  • Fixed the left end. Kirill unfolded the cloth and straightened it, I ironed it with a hot iron, melting and fixing the glue.
  • A hole was cut in place of the switch, and when they reached the opening, they cut the fabric in fact.

It’s hard for me alone to fit the walls and smooth them out. We dealt with my nephew quickly. But I already have experience, and several times finished the walls with fabric in this way.

Covering on and under the rail

The bedroom was next in line. We used the seamless method, fixing the viscose fabric wallpaper for the walls under the plank. The width of the cloth made it possible to cover the entire wall. I prepared the fabric and, with the help of my nephew, wound it into a roll. Then we acted according to the instructions.

The procedure can be seen in the video.

  1. Secured the upper left corner of the fabric with a nail.
  2. With the help of Cyril, he pulled the cloth up along the intended horizontal line and secured the right corner. The wall is long, so for convenience, I hammered a carnation in the center, so that it sags less. I usually don't do this on short spans.
  3. The two of us were cramped, but comfortable. I tucked the fabric under the bar, Cyril twisted the screws. I made potam in advance, at a distance of 15 cm. We moved out of habit from left to right.
  4. Finished at the top, moved down. They pulled and fixed the corners, then screwed the bar.
  5. The corners were made simultaneously with the adjacent wall, securing 2 panels with one bar. glue textile material no need, just pull evenly.

To close the rail, you can stick a fabric border, put moldings on glue or decorate with braid, lace, paint. The idea of finishing can be any. The main thing is to do it carefully and in accordance with the style of the interior. In place of the socket and switch, I cut through the fabric, made a hole with an allowance of 2 cm per side and fixed it around the perimeter with the same rail as the entire panel. The office needs silence for work, so the fabric was attached to a rail, a thin layer of foam rubber was laid.

  1. They marked out the level and plumb and attached the rack frame.
  2. Then they began to cut and glue foam rubber on the wall.
  3. They began to fit from above, by analogy with fastening under the rail.

You can pre-glue the frame from the rails to the size and sheathe them with a cloth. The insulating substrate is inserted into the frame. Sheathing is done imperceptibly with carnations on the reverse side. Ready-made sections are mounted on the walls with glue. It remains to mask the joints of the frames.

Advice! The method of frame covering is convenient if it is necessary to frequently replace the lining with another one. Or update in places where the surface is quickly wiped and smeared, for example, in hallways and corridors.

Insulation with foam

A beautiful finish is obtained by creating a relief surface. The underlayment is installed on the frame. A thick layer of foam rubber is attached to it. Everything is covered with fabric. The fabric is cut out with an allowance of 10 - 15 cm. It is fixed with a stapler from the back. Then, on a convex surface, along the markings, a fabric with foam rubber breaks through to the base, resulting in a recess. Fragmented decoration perfectly decorates the walls at the head of the bed, zones soft corners in the living room.

The fabric on the walls should be in complete harmony with the rest of the textiles used in the design of the room.

Wall upholstery with fabric is one of the most modern ways finishing, which allows not only to create a unique design in the room, but also to hide some imperfections on the surface of the walls. Decorating walls with fabric is in particular demand among owners of suburban housing, whose rooms are distinguished by high ceilings and large area walls. It is beautiful, durable and very original finish, which has become an excellent alternative to all existing finishing materials. Work is no different high level complexity and does not require the participation of qualified craftsmen. To succeed, it is important to strictly follow the rules of the technological process and choose the most suitable fabric correctly.

How to choose fabric

Upholstery of walls with fabric is carried out using artificial and natural materials, which can be purchased at specialized stores. trade organizations. When choosing fabric for walls, you should first of all pay attention to:

  • jute;
  • jacquard;
  • cotton.

These are not only natural materials, they also have a number of other advantages. So, for example, by fixing such a fabric on the walls instead of wallpaper, you don’t have to worry about the correctly chosen direction of the thread and how daylight will fall on the surface. Mixed fabrics, which include natural fibers and viscose, are very popular. For work on finishing the premises, the form of release of such material is very convenient. These are rolls with a width of 140 to 280 cm and a fabric length of 100 m.

Artificial materials are used in cases where do-it-yourself wall decoration is carried out with fabric. Viscose and polyester, polyacryl and polyamide attract the attention of those who want to change inner space their homes by the fact that they stretch perfectly, easily take any desired shape, and do not lose their attractiveness for a long time.

Before proceeding with the work, you need to choose the right not only the fabric intended for wall upholstery, but also the very place of its fixation.

Such decoration is not performed in the kitchen and hallway, passage area and rooms with high humidity. The photo shows exactly how you can decorate the room using bright expressive fabrics.

Wall decor with fabric is performed in strict accordance with technological process designed specifically for decorating walls with fabric. Compared to wallpaper, decoration material is more durable, easy to work with and durable. Fabrics for such decoration are easy to clean and do not accumulate household dust.

Synthetic fabrics are dense and moderately stretchy. They perfectly fit on any surface and hide the existing flaws and small defects.

Fabric fabrics made from synthetic fibers have a high level of moisture resistance, are suitable for creating draperies, and keep their shape for a long time. long period time, do not succumb to the negative effects of ultraviolet rays.

All these qualities are taken into account when choosing a fabric for use in the interior as a decorative wall covering.

Stretch

There are several ways, using which you can quickly and efficiently sheathe the walls with fabric on your own, without resorting to the help of qualified specialists. To stretch the synthetic fabric with your own hands, you need to prepare the appropriate tools and fasteners:

  • wooden slats;
  • dowel nails;
  • hammer and nails;
  • drill and screwdriver;
  • building level.

You will need a pencil and a ruler to measure desired distance and make notes. The advantage of this method of decoration is that in the space between the canvas and the wall, formed during the work, soundproofing material can be laid.

The process begins with the installation of a kind of frame. A horizontal rail is attached around the entire perimeter of the room under the ceiling with the help of a dowel of nails. This design is also assembled along the skirting boards.

Fixing the fabric is carried out with the help of furniture brackets, but when using a fairly dense fabric, you can use a hammer and furniture studs. The entire area of the sheathed surface must be covered with a cloth. Stretching is important to perform evenly, avoiding sagging of the fabric.

If furniture brackets are used for fixing, then it is quite enough to simply tuck the edge of the fabric, but when doing work with nails, a small piece of genuine leather should be placed under the head of each of them.

These measures will help to avoid tearing the fabric during stretching:

  1. The first fixing point is in the middle of the ceiling rail. Trying to evenly stretch the fabric, it is attached to the end of the rail in the direction in one direction, and then repeat all the steps in the other.
  2. After the operation is completed, the fabric is fixed to the lower rail fixed along the floor. They also start from the middle and gradually move away from the first fixation point in both directions at the same time.

During operation, it is necessary to constantly control the degree of tension in order to prevent either sagging or tearing of the fabric. At the end of the process, all attachment points are covered with moldings and skirting boards. The photo shows that the strict implementation of the rules allows you to achieve a positive result.

Sheathing the walls with fabric will not only hide the defects on the surface of the walls, but also create additional heat and sound insulation.

sticking

Before sticking the fabric on the wall, it is necessary to prepare the surface for the upcoming decoration. The use of this method of designing even small surfaces in the interior allows you to radically change the perception of the surrounding space. A wall pasted over with a spectacular fabric is a real decoration of the room, but in addition, this method of decoration allows you to clearly mark the boundaries of a certain area when zoning the space.

First you need to thoroughly prepare the surface of the wall:

  • remove the remaining old coating;
  • if necessary, putty or plaster is partially or completely updated;
  • the wall surface is processed primer composition deep penetration;
  • all metal parts found on the surface of the wall and appearing through the plaster are coated with nitro enamel to prevent rust stains from appearing on the fabric.

After this, the preparation of the wall to be glued can be considered completed, and it's time to start marking the material. When starting to decorate the walls with a fabric that will be fixed on the adhesive composition, you need to accurately measure all the surfaces that are to be pasted over. You will also have to accurately measure the canvases of the fabric.

Gluing one large canvas covering the entire wall at once is quite difficult. To simplify the solution of the task, you can divide the fabric into several small canvases. Having chosen the adhesive composition, you need to prepare it, stir it, let the glue brew and proceed with its application to the wall surface. Preparatory work with fabric are visible in the photo.

If you have to paste over the entire wall completely, then stick a whole canvas. It is quite difficult to perform such work on your own, and the master will need the participation of assistants. Before you can start cutting the fabric, a small cut is placed in hot water to test the fabric for shrinkage and color fastness.

After 10-15 minutes, the flap is taken out of the water, dried, ironed and measured again. If all the parameters remain the same, then the fabric does not shrink and you can attach it to the adhesive composition. Furniture or casein glue is considered the most convenient for working with fabric. It dries and gains strength under the influence of high temperatures when the decorated surface is heated. With this glue, you can cover the entire surface of the wall at once, without fear of premature drying.

They begin to stick the fabric, like wallpaper, from above. One of the workers holds the canvas, and the second, pulling it, rolls it with a roller, achieving uniform pressing. For more reliable fixation, furniture brackets are used, which, if necessary, are removed later. By pressing the fabric with a roller to the treated adhesive composition surface, it is best to iron it with a hot iron, but in some cases you can use a hair dryer (not necessarily a building one) to achieve complete drying of the glue and material as quickly as possible.

Smooth the entire surface of the wall several times. After 3 days, it is necessary to check the fit and the absence of air bubbles under the fabric. If such are found, they are pierced with a needle and the entire surface is again ironed with an iron. Under the influence of high temperature, the fabric is firmly glued to the wall. Excess material under the ceiling and above the floor is carefully cut off and the edges are covered with moldings, baguettes and skirting boards.

No less popular is such a way of decorating space as drapery with fabrics, but similar Finishing work often carried out in country cottages. On the walls modern apartments a glued canvas or stretched fabric looks better.

The order of work is shown in the video, which can become detailed instructions to carry out the above tasks.

We continue the "series" about ways to decorate walls. There are already quite a lot of them, and now they are all placed

And this is a new gallery about a fairly well-known in history, and now fashionable way - decor with fabric. We will talk a little about history, modern fashion and suggest ways original solutions without ruining the budget.

By the way, do you know that it was the fabric that was the great-grandmother modern wallpaper? After all, it was with it that the walls in the houses of the nobility were covered, while ordinary citizens simply whitewashed the walls. Well now the real ones fabric wallpaper- one of the most expensive lines, and it is found only in suppliers who have been producing wallpaper for at least 100 years, and environmentally friendly processing technologies are kept secret. But the high price does not scare off true connoisseurs who have sufficient funds: decorating walls with fabric is an indicator of good taste and the ability to appreciate natural materials.

However, the high price of fabric compared to economical wallpaper is not a reason to deny yourself the pleasure of seeing this beauty on your walls. We (once again) prefer creative solutions that are economical, but at the same time look very original. We act locally - we create “pictures”, collages, panels and draperies from fabric, and then decorate the walls in our house with them.

There are two situations and several solutions to each of them:

Situation 1: you like the pattern and / or texture of the fabric, and you want to see it as a wall decor.

Original Solutions:

  • stretch the fabric on a special frame (sold in Ikea) (photo 1, 11, 32, 33);
  • create a beautiful drapery or hang a small piece pre-cut along the edges on a short cornice (photo 8 and 16);
  • insert a fabric rectangle into the picture frame, attaching it to a rigid base (the fabric should be relatively thin!) (photo 2, 18, 19);
  • strengthen a whole even canvas on a part of the wall and beat around the edges with molding (photo 3, 10, 15, 20);
  • fasten a long, even canvas to the top of the wall and leave it hanging freely, like Japanese panels(photo 4 and 5);
  • you can see ideas using an embroidery hoop (photo 13).

Situation 2: you are interested in getting a certain combination of fabrics different colors(shades of the same color) or attracted by fashionable needlework techniques.

Original Solutions:

  • fabric collage (flat - something like an appliqué (photo 30) or a three-dimensional version (photo 31, 34) or drapery, reinforced on a rigid base (photo 29);
  • quilting technique (quilt), a modern revival of patchwork, but more elegant drawing up of a pattern from polygonal details - as a result, a real carpet picture is born (photo 6, 7, 9, 14, 17, 21, 28, 35);
  • use any of the solutions to situation 1, combining different fabrics.

And a couple of tips before viewing the pictures:

  • the color of the fabric should be clearly different from the color of the rest of the wall space, even when viewed at a distance of 3-4 meters, choose harmonious combinations and do not be afraid to use contrasts;
  • the more diverse the fabric pattern, the more uniform the surrounding wall should be;
  • fabric decor can be an excellent color accent or “support” other interior items in the same colors;
  • if you need to combine several pieces of furniture with different upholstery, look for these (or similar) fabrics on sale, create a collage of them, and then place it above the largest piece of furniture (for example, above the sofa).
