Processing wood often involves removing a certain layer from it. This can be done manually, but it is best to use a special mechanism. If you like to make various products from wood blanks, you just need to purchase or design a household wood planer. Today we will deal with the second case.

Equipment Capabilities

What can be done with a planer:

  • different furniture for summer cottages and apartments;
  • fence;
  • ladder; (See also the article.)
  • prepare the cladding;
  • renew old wood that has darkened from time to time.

In the photo - one of the options for a multifunctional woodworking machine with a cantilevered placement of the engine from the side circular saw

We make a planer on our own

Like any equipment that uses rotating parts and consists of several components, it is quite complex to manufacture. It is very good if you have some experience working on it, which will be very useful in the design and implementation of the plan.

In fact, we will design a mini-complex where wood can be:

  • saw along and across the fibers, for which you need a circular saw;
  • plan;
  • grind and;
  • sharpen;
  • drill.

The equipment will consist of 2 machines:

  1. Circular saw with jointer.
  2. Turning and drilling.

In this case, the first will be a kind of support for the second. We are more interested in the first, so below in the article we will talk exactly about him.

Scheme

  1. An aggregate layout will be used - a circular saw and jointer knives are placed on the same rotor shaft.
  2. It will be possible to simplify the equipment as much as possible and increase its functionality.
  3. In this case, the placement of the main components and assemblies is as rational as possible.

Alas, it will not work to make a machine only from do-it-yourself parts, so you will have to involve professionals with their machine park. This mainly concerns the main shaft and seats for bearings.

But, no one forbids you to adapt the parts available on the farm to it, when they belonged to other mechanisms, for example, a frame from sewing machine. Moreover, it is often possible to do this without any special alteration of the latter.

Consider the hardware details:

bed You will need channel No. 5 with a wall thickness of 8-10 mm.

From it you will need to make:

  • crossbars;
  • kings;
  • distance pads.

You can make it and the frame collapsible using bolts, or make it monolithic using a welding machine.

Knives and saw For jointing, you will need special knives made of durable steel, which should be securely fixed with bolts in the grooves of the main shaft. Sawing boards and beams is carried out with a circular saw with victorious soldering.
Rotor The most important detail equipment. Knives, a saw, a milling cutter, a drill, a slotting or a polishing disc are attached to it. As mentioned above, it is better to entrust the manufacture of the part to a professional turner, who needs to be given a correctly made drawing.
Plates Three desktops are used:
  • two for jointing;
  • one for the circular saw.

The thickness of the tables is at least 5 mm. Gaskets are used for adjustment, but a threaded mechanism can also be attached. On the plate for the circular, a place should be prepared for the guide bar, which will greatly facilitate the cutting process. The width between it and the circular saw will be the size of the cut.

Tip: the nut on the rotor must be with a right-hand thread, then during operation it will be self-tightening.

Drive unit

  1. For the normal operation of such equipment, it is necessary to purchase a three-phase 380 V electric motor with a power of at least 3 kW.
  2. The work of the main shaft will be carried out using a two-ribbed wedge-shaped belt.
  3. You can attach the engine cantilever, fixing it inside the frame, which will solve the problem of the necessary belt tension. You should also consider the stationary method, but then you need to make a slide to adjust it.

  1. The higher the speed of the working shaft, the cleaner the wood processing will be. Therefore, two pulleys of different diameters should be used, and the larger one should be on the engine.
  2. Power the motor through a 4-wire cable, having carried out all the measures for grounding the equipment. Turning on the machine should be carried out using an automatic machine, which, in the event of a short circuit or overload, will instantly turn it off.

  1. Should be carried out periodically preventive work equipment:
    • extrude bearings;
    • check the reliability of fastening of knives;
    • evaluate the condition of the teeth of a circular saw;
    • inspect belts;
    • check the power cable.
  1. Do not forget that this equipment is dangerous during operation due to rotating parts, so they should be covered with a casing.
  2. During work, be extremely careful and follow the safety rules.
  3. In the process of planing and cutting, do not use excessive force to speed up the process.

  1. Install above the workplace good lighting, and do not litter the space near the machine with unnecessary things.
  2. Pay attention to the floor surface - it should not be slippery.

Tip: use rubber mats or a conveyor belt to prevent accidents.

  1. It is advisable to work together if you have to plan long workpieces - one at the feed, the second at the reception.
  2. If you have to cut a large layer, remove the chips from the table more often or use a dust extractor.

Making a jointer on a wooden frame

The instructions below will tell you everything step by step:

  1. Prepare the motor and main shaft.

  2. Draw the model on the computer or freehand.

  3. Draw the details of the equipment to scale.

  4. Prepare a place for the rotor bearings.

  5. Install the motor and rotor on the frame and connect them with a belt.

  6. Make a mechanism for the infeed table that can be raised and lowered.

  7. Install a birch plywood serving table.

  8. Attach steel plates on top.

  9. The machine is ready.

Conclusion

It is best to make a planer multifunctional so that you can not only plan the workpieces, but also cut them, drill, chisel, and also polish. The main element - the main shaft, should be ordered by a professional turner. The power of the electric motor should be approximately 3 kW at 1500 rpm, and for better processing of parts, pulleys should be installed on the motor and rotor of different diameters.

The frame of the machine must be massive and reliable, for which use channel No. 5 with a wall thickness of 8-10 mm, although it can also be wood. Be sure all rotating elements must be covered with a casing. The video in this article will provide an opportunity to find additional information on the above topic.

The logical continuation of the desktop concept homemade jointer based on an electric planer from Alexei Kuznetsov. had a number of shortcomings, which were successfully corrected in this one.

and from the reverse side.

For me, it turned out beautifully, I would have painted the frame black, it would have come out with a branded festul)))

The whole structure is attached to the workbench with clamps. Now let's go in more detail on the nodes and assemblies.

This is how the planer stand is attached to the table base with four bolts
The planer is fastened to the stand from the front through standard holes, at the back it is simply pulled together with a pin and the walls of the stand clamp the planer. Clamps, by the way, firmly, the planer does not fall.

The height of the front and rear tables is adjusted by shifting the bars cut to the bevel, which are clamped with wing nuts.

I screwed the tables to the adjusting bars using 4 self-tapping screws. The heads are recessed.

After the tables are adjusted, we fix the parallel stop. On the front table, we make holes wider so that there is free play when adjusting the depth of planing.

The rip fence is set exactly 90 degrees. If a right angle does not work out, you need to put lining between the stop and the side of the table. Higher or lower, depending on which direction you want to tilt the stop. (e.g. masking tape, duct tape).
Here, a request was made to extract the stand with a planer without dismantling the entire structure, and violating the settings. Then, during the subsequent installation, you will just need to adjust back planer on the back table and that's it.

The length of both tables is 500 mm. But as practice has shown, when processing workpieces 1500-1800 mm long, it is desirable to make the front table 800-850 mm long.

At home, you can independently make a thickness gauge or jointer from an electric planer. They will facilitate and speed up the work with wooden blanks. With the help of home-made machines, it will be possible to plan and adjust the thickness of lumber, as well as perform surface finishing and some other operations. The simplest option is to use an electric planer, which can be fixed upside down to the machine bed. For such models, the transformation into a planer or jointer is provided for by their design. In other cases, you will need to make special fasteners to securely fix the tool in the working position.

A thicknesser machine is a woodworking equipment with which planed flat planes of lumber before reaching desired thickness blanks. At the same time, only pre-prepared (planed) boards or beams are processed.

Preparation of materials and working tools

There are a lot of different options for creating structures that allow you to convert an electric planer into thicknessing equipment. To make at home relatively simple homemade machine you will need the following tools and materials:

  • screwdriver with a set of bits;
  • square or carpenter's corner;
  • tape measure or simple ruler;
  • screwdrivers with different tips;
  • spanners;
  • electric planer;
  • electric jigsaw or hand saw for wood;
  • plywood with a sheet thickness of 1.5 cm;
  • long screws with coarse thread (4 pieces);
  • bicycle chain and four drive sprockets for it;
  • wooden blocks (2.5 by 2.5 cm) and planks (1.5 × 1.5 cm);
  • nuts with M14 thread;
  • washers of suitable sizes;
  • screws 25 x 100 mm.

The electric planer will serve as the main mechanism of the machine being created. Screws can be replaced with wood screws of similar size.

Manufacturing algorithm

Drawings and diagrams will help to simplify the process of creating a thicknessing tool from an electric planer, but it is easier to make it from photographs. The equipment is made in the following order.

The created structure is installed onto a flat surface. For fixing to a workbench or table, you need to use suitable fasteners.

The presence of a drive mechanism makes it possible to set the required thickness of the workpieces to be processed.

When assembling the machine with your own hands, you should fix the cable supplying the power tool so that it does not interfere with work, and the wire is not accidentally damaged. To securely fix the electric planer itself on the work site, it is recommended to use bolts with nuts.

The measuring ruler is an obligatory structural element of the created self-made thickness gauge. With its help, the thickness of the lumber that is planned to be processed is set. A piece of plastic, wooden or metal ruler 8 cm long is suitable as a bar. An arrow pointer can also be made from similar materials.

Assembly of a jointer based on an electric jigsaw

The planer is designed to remove existing irregularities from the surface of the wood. The work process is one-sided planing of lumber on a plane. You can also shoot at various bevel angles. Thanks to the processing on this equipment, the bars or boards become smooth.

The design of the planer unit is simpler than that of the planer analogue. This allows you to assemble the installation yourself using available materials.

Jointer manufacturing procedure

To make a planer for processing blanks, do not large sizes, you will need an electric planer that can be fixed in a stationary position. The basis of the created aggregate can be piece of plywood, MDF or chipboard. A piece measuring 50 by 35 cm is enough. The thickness of the used sheet material should be more than 2 cm.

Assemble the tool for planing, performing the steps in the following sequence:

  • cut out the base for the machine from the existing sheet material;
  • with the help of self-tapping screws or screws, an emphasis for the workpiece is attached to it at an angle of strictly ninety degrees (a square is used to set it);

  • install ribs that will ensure the rigidity of the stop;
  • an electric planer is attached to the base using M8 bolts and nuts.

Before fixing the stop, a hole is cut in it for the nozzle and for cooling the tool's electric motor.

If it is necessary to cut large size blanks, then it is enough to increase the size of the created aggregate. In this case, the design will turn out, as in the photographs below.

In addition to the considered option from an electric planer, planer equipment can also be assembled in another design. The practical implementation of such structures depends on the available home master materials at hand and creativity. How to make homemade jointers of other designs is shown in the following videos:

Making a stand for an electric planer

When working with an electric planer all the time, it is recommended to have a special stand that is suitable for storing it and placing the tool on it immediately after turning it off.

The use of such a device is especially important when working with powerful, heavy electric planers.

The need for a special stand is due to the fact that the metal drum with blades, after disconnecting the supply voltage from the tool's electric motor, does not stop immediately, but after a while (about 6 seconds). Throughout this period, he moves by inertia. The inertial duration of rotation itself depends on the massiveness of the drum and the power of the equipment used. At the same time, it is impossible to put a power tool on a table or workbench with a sole, because you can not only damage their surfaces, but also get injured.

In order not to hold the tool in your hands all the time while the drum stops, you need to use a stand of a special design. The main element is a groove about 8 cm wide and 0.6 cm deep. It is necessary for the drum to rotate freely until it stops completely. The accuracy of the location of the electric planer placed on the stand (when the blades are above the cut groove) is ensured by the presence of a front stop from the bar.

The width of the groove and the distance from its front edge to the stop are determined by the dimensions of the power tool model used in the work.

Necessary tools and materials

To make a stand yourself, you will need the following tools:

  • electric jigsaw equipped with a file for cutting figures;
  • screwdriver with a set of bits;
  • drill with drills for metal 3 and 4 mm in diameter;
  • awl;
  • hand saw for wood with fine teeth;
  • ruler or tape measure;
  • square;
  • pencil or marker;
  • cutter for spherical wood;
  • sandpaper;
  • chisel (enough with a 3-4 cm wide tip).

To create a structure, you will need the following materials:

  • a piece of board up to 1 m long, 20 mm thick, and 140 mm wide;
  • wood screws - 2 pieces 4 by 45 mm;
  • plank made of wood 30 mm wide, 20 mm thick, and 140 mm long;
  • 4 self-tapping screws with large hats 4 by 15 mm.

Creation sequence

In the manufacture of a stand for an electric planer, the following algorithm is used:

  1. Cut off a piece of 50 cm long from the board with a saw or electric jigsaw.
  2. According to the diagram above, mark the bar with the board.
  3. Drill holes for screws (according to the marks applied at the right points) designed to fix the stop.
  4. The used model of the electric planer is tried on to the prepared stand base blank, noting the future location of the groove according to the location of the tool drum.
  5. According to the markup, a groove is cut with a saw, making it approximately 4 cm larger than this parameter at the slot for the drum. Files are made along the edges and in the center.
  6. With a chisel, wood is removed from the groove and cleaned.
  7. Saw off excess from the workpiece with an electric jigsaw.
  8. Attach the front stop with screws. 4 self-tapping screws are twisted around the edges, which will serve as the "legs" of the stand.
  9. Sand the finished stand with sandpaper to remove roughness.

The position of the stand is adjustable with self-tapping screws.

After finishing work, you should make sure that the groove is made of the desired width and depth: for this, just put the power tool on top of the stand and look at the drum location from the side. If necessary, you will need to deepen or expand the groove.

After turning off (when the drum still continues to rotate), the tool is set in the following way:

  • first, the front edge of the sole of the plane is supported at close range;
  • only then lower the power tool onto the stand.

Making a stand does not require much time, labor and Money. But such a device makes the job easier.

Thickness gauges and jointers made independently from an electric planer are much cheaper than their factory counterparts, but they functionality inferior to branded equipment. However, they are quite enough to perform the basic operations for which these devices are intended. Practical use home-made machines significantly speeds up wood processing, improves its accuracy and quality compared to manual application electric planer.

The jointing machine performs the functions of planing wooden edges, layers, boards, bars in order to ensure a smooth surface. The electric planer has a fairly simple principle of operation and a simple device, which allows you to assemble the unit with your own hands from improvised tools and materials.

Before you purchase a planer, or assemble this device with your own hands on the basis of an electric planer, you should learn a little about the device and the features of the unit.

  • A cutter shaft is located in the slot on the desktop, which moves due to electrical installation- electric motor;
  • The shaft is designed to perform the main function - planing;
  • The workpiece moves towards the knife shaft due to the roller assembly;
  • Supports contribute to the inclination of the workpiece at different angles;
  • By moving the workpiece up or down, you adjust the resulting thickness of the product;
  • The tabletop of the machine is divided across into two sections;
  • The front section is lower than the back;
  • The back should be flush with the highest points where the jointer knives are located;
  • The difference between the heights of the sections determines the thickness of the layer, which is cut from the tree by the knife shaft, that is, the knives of the machine;
  • The jointer SF 4, like most of its analogues, has a cast-iron tabletop;
  • To increase the level of comfort during work, guide measuring devices are installed on the jointer;
  • In addition to knives, in order to improve performance and increase functionality, additional devices are installed on the planer. This allows you to get a circular planer, grooving installation in one building.

As for the device, there are a few key points to highlight here.

  1. The shaft of knives can be single-sided or double-sided.
  2. The one-sided shaft of knives allows processing one wooden layer.
  3. The double-sided knife shaft has an important advantage - it can simultaneously process the workpiece in two planes.
  4. The knife shaft can have a different diameter. The larger the diameter of the knife shaft, the higher the quality of the workpiece being processed. This should be taken into account if you decide to make a jointer with your own hands.
  5. Knives on the machine are of two types.
  6. Single-edged knives are models that are subject to periodic sharpening. Due to sharpening, single-edged type knives can be restored, significantly extending their service life.
  7. Two-edged planer knives are single-use planing tools. In their case, sharpening is impossible.

Do it yourself

tables, knives, specifications electric planer, the requirements of a jointer, the possibility of sharpening knives with your own hands - all this makes it possible self-assembly similar equipment.

No one argues that Kraton 204 or Felisatti are wonderful factory models that have excellent technical characteristics, high-quality tables, and sharp knives. But the same Kraton 204 may well be replaced by a do-it-yourself analog if you need a machine to work at home.

It is impossible to promise a complete similarity of the home unit with the characteristics of Kraton 204. But it is possible to get closer to the capabilities of the sought-after Kraton 204 machine or its analogues by assembling the unit from an electric planer with your own hands.

We offer you two options for how you can assemble worthy machine models based on an electric planer and other auxiliary materials with your own hands.

First example

If you have a good electric planer, which has good technical characteristics, you can assemble tables in a few hours, install knives with the possibility of sharpening and get a decent jointer.

The electric planer has its advantages, but it cannot accurately joint. Therefore, it is necessary to somewhat correct its characteristics, modernize the device, turning it into a full-fledged jointer. Experts advise using an electric planer model that has sliding knife guards. When moving the workpiece on the machine, the fences are removed. An important detail is the fasteners with knives up, which come with the electric planer.

For work you will need:

  • quality boards;
  • Plywood "ten";
  • self-tapping screws;
  • Fasteners (nuts, bolts, washers).

If everything is ready, proceed to the assembly of the machine.

  1. The base for the jointer can be made from boards. You need to assemble a box that does not have a bottom and a lid. The length of the box directly determines how long the tables of your model, assembled by yourself, will have.
  2. Lay a sheet of plywood on top of the box with a hole made for the electric planer platform.
  3. A couple more sheets are laid on top. They will act as the front and back plates. For the take-up sheet, choose a material that is 2 mm thicker.
  4. Make sure the countertops are parallel.
  5. Process the edges of the plywood, sand it, fasten it with self-tapping screws.
  6. Fasteners for the electric planer, allowing you to install it with the knives up, fasten to bottom sheet. Install a tool on it.
  7. From the wood, make the ears, thread the bolts through them. With their help, the height of the electric planer will be adjusted in relation to the desktop.
  8. Fabricate and install side stop. It is made from a sheet of plywood.

Second example

If you want to get more weighty characteristics close to Kraton 204, you should pay attention to complex makeshift installations. The presented example is much closer to the previous one to the Kraton 204 model, it can have knives with a sharpening function, which will significantly improve performance.

  • To assemble such a unit, the characteristics of which are not far from Kraton 204, is capable of a master with a certain experience;
  • Be sure to arm yourself with drawings so that there are no problems during assembly;
  • For assembly, you will need an electric motor, the characteristics of which include a power of 1.5 kW;
  • The motor will be connected to the shaft with a drive belt;
  • Use disposable knives or knives with the ability to sharpen, it's up to you;
  • Weld the bed from metal pipes, corners and rectangular profiles;
  • A base plate, a pair of side rails and a base for the travel screw are welded to the frame;
  • The side rails are mounted so that the guide has free play. For these purposes, provide appropriate clearances;
  • The lead screw is installed on the support, after which it is welded with a welding machine;
  • The front plate will consist of a guide and a top. They are connected by sides;
  • Carefully measure the end elements of the plates, make sure they are parallel, after which they can be carefully sanded;
  • The knife shaft can be made by hand, or entrusted to a professional turner;
  • In order to make the sides identical, fold and grind them together, drill a hole, placing them side by side. After drilling, insert temporary studs, and when the sides and guides are welded, they can be removed;
  • Install a knife shaft with a diameter of up to 11 cm. The length of the knives can be 200 mm;
  • Raise the front table to the level of the shaft so that its edge is parallel to the axis of the shaft. Now mark out, make holes for the screws of the shaft supports. This is how the shaft is mounted on bearings;
  • Fix the back tabletop so that it is stationary.

The price of a Kraton 204 type machine will be from 30 thousand rubles. A unit with the possibility of sharpening knives can be assembled with your own hands for literally several thousand. The choice is yours.

For any work to be argued, it is necessary to have good equipment and tools. The same statement is also suitable for amateurs (or professionals) to "tinker" with a tree. Furniture maker or other wooden products always try to acquire various tools and devices that can help them in their work.

For example, a planer. This device significantly increases the productivity and quality of woodworking. But not all fans can buy it, because its price is quite high. How to get out of this difficult situation? There is a solution, and it is quite simple - this is to make a desktop jointer with your own hands. And the manufacturing process itself will be discussed in the article.

Why do you need a planer

A woodworking workshop can have a variety of machines, but the most commonly used (of course, except for a circular saw) can be called planer and planer devices. These two types of aggregates are somewhat similar in their function, but differ in the way they are used.

If you need to make a wooden blank in the form of a board, beam or shield, then it is better to use a thicknessing machine. Such a device, the main tool of which is the same knife, is able to cut the source material into two parallel parts. In this case, both of them will be adjusted to certain sizes.

Thicknessing machines are available in both single-sided and double-sided types. In the first case, only one side of the workpiece is processed in one pass. More productive is a double-sided thicknessing machine. Here, the output is already obtained almost finished part.

For thicknessing machines, the shaft is located above the tabletop. Moreover, the latter is made massive in order to smooth out large vibrations. In addition, the mechanism is equipped with a special casing, which is designed to absorb noise.

The jointer has a slightly different task. This device is used to create a smooth, without significant roughness, surface on the workpiece. Such a machine, like the previous version, is equipped with a shaft with knives, only in the jointer it is located under the table top.

The workpiece is fed to the working surface from one side, the exit from the opposite side is already partially processed. In this way, the desired evenness is achieved layer by layer. After processing on a planer, the part can be fed to a planer.

Basic concepts

In such equipment there will be numerous rotating parts. From this we can conclude that it will not be so easy to make such a machine with your own hands. Therefore, starting to manufacture it, you need to calculate your strength. If you already have some similar experience, then you will cope with the task.
It should be noted right away that to make a jointer completely from parts own production you won't succeed. Of course, perhaps in your "bins" there is a large assortment various devices, but this rarely happens. First of all, this concerns the shaft with knives and bearings. They, most likely, will have to be bought in addition or even ordered. But if everything you need is available, then you can safely proceed to the design.

Some parts for the planer: cutter shaft, knife bearings, you will have to buy or order

First of all, it is worth understanding what kind of “complete set” you want to receive. There may be several options here:

  1. just a grinder. It will only serve one function;
  2. set of jointer and circular saw. In this case, the functionality of the machine is doubled;
  3. equipment capable of performing the role of a jointer, and a circular saw, and a grinder, and a grinder and drilling machine. Such a device will be very useful for your workshop, but it will be difficult to do it yourself.

The most optimal and easiest option to perform is to make a jointer and a circular saw on one bed. Plus, both tools will rotate from one electric motor. This feature greatly facilitates our task.

Consider the main components of our future table jointer. It will include:

  • Bed. This design will hold the entire machine and equipment installed on it. For its manufacture, it is best to use durable channels, with a wall thickness in the range of 8-10 millimeters. The bed can be made both collapsible and capital. In the first case, all its components will be connected with bolts and nuts. If you do not need a portable machine, then the channels can be fixed together by welding. This option will be more reliable. You can do without a bed if its role is played by the desktop;
  • Work tool. This is one of the most important components of the machine. The jointer knives and the saw itself - it is with their help that you will saw and process the boards. Knives are firmly attached to the shaft. They must be made of reliable and strong steel. Circular saw with victorious soldering. Such a tool will serve you much longer;
  • Rotor - it is to it that all tools will be attached. Without this part, it is impossible to make any machine, thickness gauge or circular saw. Finding a suitable rotor can be quite difficult, so it is better to order it from a professional turner, after providing it with drawings;
  • Desktop. For a normally functioning machine, you will need three surfaces. One will serve as a desktop for a circular saw, and the other two for a jointer. The thickness of the material for the working surface must be at least five millimeters. For these purposes, multi-layer plywood or metal sheets. In this case, it is desirable to make a small difference in height for surfaces intended for jointing. The side on which the workpiece will be fed should be a couple of millimeters lower than the one to which the already processed side will go. Such a difference will facilitate the work and significantly reduce vibration.

Planer electric drive

And of course, do not forget about the drive. All mechanisms must rotate. This means that the drive will be the "heart" of the machine. Here are some recommendations for this design element:
- First of all, prepare the electric motor.

Planer motor

It is best to use a three-phase unit for these purposes. Of course, in this case you may have to redo the electrical network in your workshop, then it's worth it. Three-phase electric motors operating at a voltage of 380 V are capable of developing high power. In addition, the torque of such devices is suitable for our purposes. The minimum power value should be 3 kW, but the maximum is at your discretion;

  • to transfer torque from the electric motor to the working shaft, it must be carried out using belts. A two-strand wedge-shaped shape is best suited for these purposes. Such belts are more reliable;
  • the electric motor itself can be mounted on a cantilever, directly inside the machine frame. This method will help solve the problem associated with belt tension. If you want to strengthen the engine more firmly, then you need to add a skid to the design, with which adjustment will be carried out;
  • to increase the shaft speed, it is worth using two pulleys. One, of larger diameter, is installed on the electric motor. A pulley with a smaller cross section is mounted on the shaft.

Be very careful with the power supply of the machine. Three-phase current is supplied through a four-wire cable. In this case, reliable grounding must be organized. These requirements will help to avoid accidents when working on the machine.

Drawing. The main stages of creating a jointer

Bench Planer - Blueprint

Bench planer - drawing (part 2)

Planer, the simplest version of it without additional features, you can quite easily make your own hands. The general course of work in this case will look like this:

  • first prepare all the necessary parts, tools and materials;
  • we create a drawing of the future machine. Without this "document" it is impossible to start work. With the help of the drawing, you can calculate all the nuances and prepare for them. In addition, having such a plan will greatly facilitate and simplify the task;
  • further, we transfer all the dimensions of future parts to the workpiece and manufacture them;
  • a very important detail is the place to install the rotor bearings. It is made from several blanks.

When bonding, glue and clamp are used. The recess must ideally fit the size of the bearing;

  • Next, we install the electric motor. To do this, as noted above, you can use a cantilever mount, or install the unit on a skid;
  • the next step is to assemble the rotor with the bearing and install them in their place. At the same time, the connection to the electric motor is carried out using a belt drive. Check that the rotor rotates freely in the bearing;
  • further, the assembly and installation of the working surface is carried out. It will consist of two parts - serving and receiving. In this case, the second should be a couple of millimeters higher than the first. The work surface can be made from plywood, and for greater strength and an increase in service life, beat it with sheet iron.

After creating the system, turning the electric motor on and off, the machine is ready for use. But for your new tool brought only benefit and joy of work, it is worth exploiting it correctly and safely.

A rotary machine, like any mechanism, needs proper operation. If you do not comply certain rules, the device can quickly fail. And in the worst case, you yourself will get injured. Therefore, when using, you should follow the recommendations from experts:

  • In order for the machine to work reliably, it is necessary to periodically carry out preventive maintenance. Such a complex includes the following measures - checking the reliability of the location of the knives on the shaft, injection of bearings, checking the electric motor, inspecting the belt drive for sufficiency of its tension, checking all contacts, and so on;
  • rotating parts are always dangerous. And if they are also equipped with sharp blades, then the risk of getting herbs is very high. To increase the safety of operation, it is better to cover the shaft with knives with a casing. It will be revealed at origin wooden blank, and close again when idle;
  • Observe all safety precautions when operating the machine. This is especially true for the quality of workplace lighting. Hang a powerful lamp above the machine, and the very room of your workshop should be bright. Also pay attention to the quality of the floor. If it is too slippery, then it is better to install a wooden platform or a rubber mat;
  • do not use excessive force when planing or cutting material. Excess force will not speed up the work, but only spoil the workpiece or lead to breakdowns of the machine itself;
  • do not hesitate to invite an assistant when processing long workpieces. So the work will be done faster, better and safer for your health.

Of course, you should keep your desktop clean. After finishing work, with the machine turned off and de-energized, clean the device from chips. The same thing needs to be done periodically to perform large volumes. Turn off the machine and remove any accumulated chips from all mechanisms and surfaces. Cleanliness will make your job easier and help keep your plant running longer.
