At present, it so happened that real garden strawberries are mistakenly called strawberries because of the size of the berries. On the territory of Europe, wild strawberries are almost universally distributed, with fragrant, but small berries. This plant has been treated as a medicinal plant for hundreds of years.

In the 17th century, virgin strawberries were brought from the North American state of Virginia. The berries of this species were larger than those of the wild strawberry, but they were much inferior to it in taste. Almost a hundred years later, a French officer brought five bushes of Chilean strawberries from South America, which was distinguished by even larger, but sour berries.

Quite by chance, one of the bushes of this plant was planted next to a strawberry from Virginia. As a result of spontaneous pollination, a plant with large and tasty berries was obtained. It was called garden strawberry. It is she who is very often confused with strawberries. It is from strawberries that housewives cook delicious and fragrant jam in summer.

For jam you need to take:

Pour the berries into a bowl or pan with a non-oxidizing coating. Add sugar there.

Leave strawberries with sugar on the table for two to three hours. When the berry gives juice, put it on the fire and heat to a boil. Gently, so as not to damage the berries, mix the contents once. After five minutes of boiling, remove the bowl with the berry from the heat and remove the scale.

When the contents have cooled completely, heat the berry again to a boil, boil for five minutes and cool completely again.

Repeat the procedure a third time. Fragrant strawberry jam with whole berries is ready.

Each hostess has her own favorite method, and I do it in microwave oven- wash the jars (volume 0.5 liters) in a soda solution, rinse and pour into each about 100 ml cold water. I steam in the microwave at the highest power for 5 minutes each. I boil the lids on the stove for about 5 minutes.

Then put on fire and bring the berries to a boil - it will take about 5 minutes. Gradually pour in the gelling sugar, constantly stirring the berries with a spoon.

After boiling again, cook everything together on a low-medium fire for just a couple of minutes. And that, in fact, is all - such strawberry jam is prepared very quickly, while the berries undergo a slight heat treatment.
