The rocking chair is a fairly popular piece of furniture in the home and garden. On such an armchair it will be pleasant to relax, sitting on the terrace. You can buy it today in almost any furniture store However, such a product is expensive, so it is better to make it yourself.

To do this, stock up on high-quality material that has moisture-repellent properties. It is important to remember that plywood in processing provides for the need to comply with certain rules. And you will also need tools for work, for example, a cutting tool that has fine teeth.

Chair materials

In the conditions of the factory, such models are made of different materials, it could be:

  • rolled steel;
  • solid wood;
  • plywood.

The latter is suitable for independent work as well as possible. An array of wood is also used - the chair as a result is aesthetically attractive and durable. It can be entered into the interior of the apartment and the exterior of the garden. Rocking chairs have been made from plywood relatively recently. Factory options are much cheaper, but they do not look as attractive as those made from natural wood.

Is plywood worth it?

If you are wondering how to make a rocking chair, then you must decide whether to use plywood for this. The described material is a canvas of thin layers of wood different breeds. At the production stage, a thin layer is removed from the log, which is repeatedly glued together using a special composition into a separate slab.

Plywood has a high margin of safety, and its texture is similar to natural wood. Before you make a rocking chair, you will need to select the material. Preferring plywood, you can save money, as well as ensure the convenience of processing the material. In addition, plywood has a fairly attractive appearance and high strength.

On sale you can find canvases of different thicknesses, which allows you to choose best option for a certain type of structure and load. Do-it-yourself plywood rocking chair is made quite often. If you also decide to follow the experience of the masters, you should also learn about the shortcomings of this material.

Disadvantages of plywood

The disadvantages of the material are expressed in low moisture resistance and weakness of the ends. If you do not treat the canvases with a special composition, then it is better not to use them for the manufacture garden furniture who will spend most of their time on fresh air. Over time, such a chair will certainly deteriorate. As for the instability of the ends, they will also need to be protected, otherwise the material will delaminate over time.

Preparation of tools and materials

If you will be making a rocking chair for giving, you can be sure that the assembly work will not be difficult. However, you will first need to stock up on some materials, including:

  • plywood;
  • a set of fasteners;
  • wood glue;
  • cardboard.

A rocking chair made of plywood with your own hands cannot be made if you do not take care of having a set of tools. For cutting and assembling a piece of furniture, you should prepare:

  • electric jigsaw;
  • chisel;
  • ruler;
  • pencil;
  • file;
  • a hammer;
  • square;
  • roulette.

As for the most important material - plywood - you will need three sheets. Their thickness should be equal to 20 and 15 mm - this difference will come in handy, because you will be making different elements, each of which is subjected to a certain load.

It is better to purchase sheets of standard sizes, which are 1520x800 mm. When a rocking chair is made, drawings must be prepared. But work cannot be started not only without them, but also without wood screws. But to connect the blanks together, carpentry glue is useful. It will be used where self-tapping screws cannot be used.

To make a set of patterns, you need to purchase cardboard. According to the patterns, you can apply the contours of the details to the surface of the plywood. A set of files must be attached to the jigsaw. It is better to prefer files with medium or small teeth, because the material being cut has several thin layers, and large teeth will simply tear the edge.

Chair making

A rocking chair for a summer residence should be carried out according to a certain pattern. It provides for the assembly of a product that consists of a frame. It will be based on two parts:

  • sidewall;
  • cross bars.

After manufacturing, you can supplement the design itself with a soft mattress, which will make this piece of furniture more comfortable. When making the sidewall, you should give it the shape of a boomerang. This design will fit into the room with any design. Cross bars are made from the same plywood, they are required to connect the two sidewalls. These elements for assembly will need 14 pieces.

Stops are needed to install the cross bars. They are made from a bar, the cross section of which is 20x40 mm. The bar must be sawn into separate blanks of 50 mm. The height of the chair will be 1 m, its width and length should be equal to 0.6 and 1.2 m, respectively.

Work methodology

The dimensions of the plywood rocking chair were mentioned above, but you can design the design yourself. In any case, the order of work will remain the same.

Manufacturing should begin with the preparation of a template that will determine the size and shape of the side parts. The template should be drawn on a piece of cardboard. The boomerang should have a large lower radial part - this will allow the chair to swing without jerking.

Once the contour lines have been drawn on the surface of the cardboard, you need to cut out the template using scissors. Now the master has to transfer the marks to the surface of the plywood sheet in order to make two parts from one canvas with a minimum amount of waste. Once the contour has been applied, you can start cutting out the side parts.

When a rocking chair is made of plywood with your own hands, at the next stage, the ends of the parts must be processed using sandpaper. It is important not to leave burrs. Now you should cut out the transverse strips - this uses 15 mm plywood. There should be 14 of these strips, their length and width will be 600 and 40 mm, respectively. After completion of work, each plank should be sanded with sandpaper.

Now you can prepare the stops for the cross bars. They are made of timber, the cross section of which is 20x40 mm. There will be two stops for each cross bar. On each side part, markings are made for persistent bars. The line should repeat the top end. AT this case It's about the attachment line.

It is important to pay attention to the step between the bars - it should be the same. As soon as the line for installing the bars has been applied to one sidewall, the marks should be transferred to the other side. If it is carried out, then it will be necessary to fix the persistent bars. They are attached with wood glue. It is applied to the surface of the bar and sidewall. In order to ensure high reliability of fastening, wood screws should additionally be used.

The two sidewalls must be fastened together with transverse strips. First, the first and last are installed, after which you can move on to the rest. They are fixed to the persistent bars with glue and small self-tapping screws. Before screwing them in, holes should be made in the bar so that the material does not split. The finished frame is processed at the final stage protective agent. It is covered with stain in two layers, after which you can start applying varnish.

for a rocking chair?

Quite often, home craftsmen are wondering how to bend plywood at home. You can give the desired bend to almost all types of this material, no matter how thick they may be. Such manipulations may be necessary if the plywood is installed not across, but along the frame.

In general, flexible plywood is sold in hardware stores. Usually it has a small thickness (within 4 mm). She's great for different designs. The part is cut to size, and then fixed with screws to the frame. The best combination of quality and price is plywood made in China. It is quite flexible and has acceptable performance characteristics. If the work is to use a more rigid type of material to be bent, then combinations of several methods can be used, among them:

  • gluing;
  • stabbing;
  • steaming.

Steaming plywood

If you will be making a rocking chair, the drawings of which are presented in the article, then it may be necessary to bend the material. To do this, it is better to use the steaming method. You will need a container of boiling water or an iron that has the function of uninterrupted steam supply.

The sheet can simply be wetted - the soaking time will depend on the thickness of the material and the direction of the bend. After the part has been soaked, you should fix it on the template and fix it, holding it until it dries completely. The maximum allowable bending is possible when bending across the fibers. If you have to work at home, then it is better to combine moisturizing and steaming. Only the place that should be curved should be steamed, only moisten upper layer veneer.

DIY collapsible chair

If you will be making a collapsible rocking chair made of plywood, then you will have to act according to a different technology. For this, the frame is made of solid wood, as it will withstand more high loads. The inner part, which will look like a chair without legs, can be made of plywood.

The two parts of the chair will be connected to each other using special hooks that can be purchased at the hardware store. In this case, the piece of furniture will occupy less space after disassembly. A pattern for a rocking chair made of plywood in this case is also depicted on cardboard. The side parts will look like two racks different size with a crossbar that connects these two elements. The lower part is also made in the form of a boomerang.

Reading time ≈ 5 minutes

This article is step by step instructions on self-production of rocking chairs made of metal, which also presents photos and videos. Thanks to detailed explanations, you will not make a mistake with the choice of materials, and you may also gain new skills that will be useful in future projects.

Materials for making a rocking chair with your own hands

The first thing you need to do is to purchase metal parts for the future rocking chair. You may need to seek help from someone who will make for you exactly the shape of the frame that you need. If you work together with a professional, he will be able to give helpful advice, help with the choice of materials, etc.

Ideal for the frame of a homemade rocking chair made of metal will be a 20 mm (in diameter) steel rod. If you think the rod is too heavy for the frame, you can use steel pipes.

As a result, as you can see in the photo, you should get a set of rods of the following sizes (pay attention to the drawings):

  • A: 4 x 650 mm
  • B: 2 x 268mm
  • C: 2 x 867mm
  • D: 2 x 600 mm
  • E: 2 x 896 mm

Of course, you can change the dimensions of a rocking chair made of metal, but be careful in the calculations.

Fitting metal rods

In order for each steel element of the future frame to fit snugly against each other after welding, their ends need to be adjusted (to understand exactly how to do this, watch the video presented on the site). This will be easy to do if you have a desktop . As a result, you should get the following:

  • Rods ‘A’ ground at both ends
  • Rods ‘B’ ground on one side
  • Rods ‘C’ ground on one side
  • ‘D’ stems do not require grinding
  • ‘E’ stems do not require grinding

Welds

Start by connecting the rods of the two sides of the rocking chair (B, C, D) as shown in the photo. It is better to do this on the floor in order to ensure a perfectly even design. If you have a magnetic welding square, use it. Otherwise, use a cinder block to achieve a 90º angle.

After welding the two sides (B, C, D), connect them with rods A.

Shaping

It takes a little imagination to figure out how to bend a 20mm diameter steel rod. Especially if you don't have any special tool like pipe bender. You will need a pipe and a tree with a forked trunk (as you can see from the photo, the trunks should be close to each other). Place the rod between the trunks and put the pipe on it. By holding on to the latter and applying pressure, gradually you will be able to give the rod necessary form. Try to keep the 'E' parts as similar as possible.

Attach Curves 'E'

A sturdy do-it-yourself metal rocking chair frame is almost ready. Now you need to weld the ‘E’ parts, after the ‘D’ and ‘B’ parts (most likely, they will need to be adjusted quite a bit to fit the curved ‘E’). The hardest part of the journey is over!

Sling test on frame

If one of your loved ones has sewing skills, entrust the creation of a cover to one of them. You can use an old blanket or a durable blanket, from which you will need to cut a 600 mm strip. It should be sewn to the top two rods ‘A’ so that you get a kind of sling in which you will sit. Very simple and great!

Cleanup

If your welds turned out similar to those shown in the photo, you must admit that such a rocking chair will not have the most attractive appearance. Grinding the seams will take some time, but the result is worth it.

Painting

This is probably the most enjoyable part of the whole job. But first, thoroughly clean the frame of the chair with hot soapy water from dirt and grease. Then rinse with clean water and let dry completely.

Hang the frame wherever you like. It is better to paint on a warm, not too windy day. The first and second layer will be a primer (ground base). But the second is applied a few hours after the first. Next comes two layers of the main primer (third and fourth), which are applied 24 hours after the primer. It is better that the last two layers are gray color. As a result, the appearance of the finished rocking chair will be much more spectacular. After that, apply a matte varnish.

Choice of sling color

What color your rocking chair will be is up to you. It is desirable that it be a durable material made of 100% cotton. By the way, if you already have a piece of light fabric, you can only purchase a special dye and, following the instructions, give it the desired shade.

Sling tailoring

In terms of dimensions, you will need a piece 1200mm wide and approximately 1300mm long. It will need to be folded in half, so that the result is a rectangle of 600x1300 mm. The two long sides of the rectangle are sewn together, and the resulting sleeve is turned inside out. Each end of the sleeve is also sewn with cut edges inward (as in the photo) in order to prevent the sling from wearing out soon.

A rocking chair can be made from metal, wood, plastic or plywood. However, if you are going to build a rocking chair yourself, then in this case, preference should be given to plywood. This is because it will be easiest to draw up a drawing for a plywood rocking chair.

Advantages of plywood

  • moisture resistance;
  • durability (a plywood product will not lose its attractiveness even after 10-15 years);
  • environmental friendliness of the material;
  • in special care does not need;
  • easy to cut;
  • low cost;
  • the material bends well.

Blueprints

If you are going to build a rocking chair yourself, then preference should be given to a simple model, which consists of two sidewalls and transverse components.

First, stencils are made from a cordon, along which details will be cut out of plywood in the future (bars, support strips and sidewalls). To do this, you need a sheet of glued veneer, about 17 mm thick.

Important! Special attention should be given to the measurement of the sidewalls, since they form the basis of the entire structure (sidewalls have a curved shape and not a constant width, so calculations can be difficult).

A cardboard template is drawn "by eye". Standard sizes transverse components 0.7 m in width and 0.6 m in length. However, if desired, the size can be changed. The standard support length is 0.07 m.

After the stencil is made, it must be tested, that is, it must be installed on a flat surface and shaken. This is necessary in order to understand how the original will look like.

What will be needed for work?

For work you will need:

  • plywood sheets about twenty millimeters thick;
  • iron rims, nails and self-tapping screws;
  • "sandpaper", masking tape;
  • electric drill and electric jigsaw;
  • glue, foam rubber, leatherette;
  • paint, stain.

Making the base

Process:

  • Draw a stencil on plywood. Then the part is cut out according to the mark. Thus, the first sidewall is obtained. The second is made identically to the first.

Simple chair model (cell scale 1:10)

Important! Both sides must be the same size.

  • The cut element is polished with sandpaper.
  • Supports are attached to the sidewalls with glue. Then the parts are fixed with screws.

Important! The bars should be parallel to each other. In the future, the back will be attached to them.

  • With the help of self-tapping screws, the first bar is attached to the upper bars. The rest of the bars are installed in the same way.

Finishing

The process of finishing rocking plywood:

  1. The outer side of the product can be painted with stain in one or two layers.
  2. The inner parts of the sidewalls and ends can be painted with black paint.
  3. After the paint dries, the ends are reinforced with iron rims.
  4. To give the chair softness, it is necessary to use a leather substitute. The leather is first trimmed back backs.
  5. Nails attach leatherette to the frame.
  6. For the manufacture of the soft part, foam rubber is used (thickness 8 mm), which is cut to the size of the back. Then it is placed in a leatherette case. With the help of glue, the mattress is attached to the back.

If the drawings were drawn up correctly, then the result will be an attractive and comfortable rocking chair. It is worth noting that this is not the only option, there are other more complex models.

How to make a rocking chair from plywood with your own hands - drawings and assembly instructions are attached

A comfortable and beautiful rocking chair made of wood in a store is not cheap. However, it is not necessary to buy such furniture, because everything can be done with your own hands. Read in this article about how to make reliable and inexpensive furniture from plywood for a comfortable stay.

Advantages of a homemade plywood rocking chair

The use of plywood as the main material for furniture assembly guarantees the following advantages:

  • Making furniture with curvilinear shapes. Plywood, unlike solid wood, can be bent in different directions, giving products complex curvilinear shapes.
  • Ease of manufacture. Most You can make plywood furniture with your own hands using the available tools from your home workshop.
  • Affordable cost. Finished products will cost less than similar, but solid wood products.
  • Great look. Plywood is glued from veneer with a solid pattern, and therefore the finished furniture looks no worse, and sometimes even better, than similar products completely assembled from wood.
  • Strength and durability. Due to the special arrangement of the veneer in the board, plywood exhibits higher fracture strength compared to similar indicators of solid wood.
  • Environmental Safety. Multilayer plywood is a product made from natural raw materials - wood, and therefore this material is safe for humans.

Types of rocking chairs

What chairs can be made from plywood? There are many options, consider only the most interesting.

How does it swing

The review shows that in terms of the device, all rocking chairs are of 3 types, namely, models with curved skids, models with a pendulum and hanging models. But regardless of the modification, the principle of swinging all rocking chairs is pendulum.

The seat in all of these models moves due to the forced displacement of the center of gravity relative to its original position. Subsequent displacements occur by inertia. As you swing, the inertia weakens and the pendulum stops until you set it in motion again.

Drawings of plywood rocking chair

Choosing a chair model for self assembly, we give preference to those drawings that will be easier to translate into reality. I offer several such drawings.

model on the drawing upholstered furniture, assembled on solid sidewalls, cut out in the form of curved runners, turning into armrests. To connect the sidewalls, you can use transverse inserts made of plywood or planed board.

The supporting frame of this chair is assembled from plywood parts. Cross bars are stuffed over the frame. The lower part of the sidewalls is reinforced with a bent strip of skids. Such a design will be an excellent element of the surroundings of a country terrace or a personal plot.

Puzzle Rocker translated from English means "a rocking chair assembled from mosaic fragments." 4 fragments shown in the diagram are cut from multilayer plywood. Then these fragments are put together without the use of fasteners and the chair is ready. If necessary, the rocking chair is easy to disassemble.

Design requirements and dimensions

Dimensions plywood furniture are selected so that the overall dimensions correspond to the thickness of the material used. That is, the larger the chair, the thicker the plate should be, from which the details will be cut. The preferred option for any chairs is plywood with a thickness of 25 mm or more.

What you need to work

The most important tool for working with plywood is a jigsaw, which will ensure sufficient accuracy of the cut.

Required materials and tools:

  • Multilayer plywood - thickness 30 mm.
  • Fasteners self-tapping screws for wood and other hardware for furniture assembly.
  • Joiner's glue.
  • Paints and varnishes for decorative and protective finishing of furniture.
  • Electric jigsaw.
  • Screwdriver with a set of drills and bits.
  • Clamps for wood.
  • grinder or hand grater with replaceable sandpaper.

Chair making process

Making furniture from plywood is not much different from making chairs from other board materials. The process is step-by-step and all steps are performed in the following sequence:

  • Cutting the material in accordance with the selected drawing.
  • Preparation of parts - chamfering, drilling holes, forming grooves, etc.
  • Furniture assembly.
  • Finishing, including grinding and processing with paints and varnishes.

Let's consider the above points in more detail.

If the material is purchased for subsequent painting, simply select the sheet desired thickness, not paying attention to the texture of the fibers. If the finished furniture is supposed to be varnished at the end of the assembly, we don’t save money and get the plywood that initially looks good.

We try to purchase the material that was stored correctly - we are talking about moisture and the absence of sheet curvature. The purchased material must be even and dry. We pay attention to the cut line, all layers must be tightly glued together without peeling.

Preparation of plywood and general rules for working with it

Plywood is a board glued together from sheets of natural wood veneer. On the one hand, the layered structure of the material simplifies the work, since plywood can be bent.

On the other hand, this feature makes sawing difficult, since an improperly selected tool and unprofessional cutting lead to the fact that the layers of veneer along the cutting line of the slab crack and crumble. That is why, when assembling plywood furniture, we follow the instructions and recommendations proposed in this article.

How to prepare material for subsequent sawing? You don't need to do anything special, just make sure the slab is dry enough and free from curvature. If there is curvature, lay the plywood on the bars so that the sheet curves in the opposite direction of the curvature.

Pattern making and drawing transfer

After we decided on the choice of the drawing, it remains to mark the plate in accordance with it. That is, you need to transfer the drawing to plywood, while increasing the scale of the image to natural size. If the design of the furniture to be assembled does not have complex shapes, the drawing from the paper is transferred along the ruler and square.

If you plan to make furniture with complex shapes, for each part, patterns (templates) are cut out of thick paper or cardboard, which are subsequently traced on a sheet of plywood.

Cutting plywood into pieces

For a curved cut, it is preferable to use a jigsaw, as the tool is available. If possible, blanks are sawn on a band saw, provided that a fine-toothed blade is used.

Construction assembly

The chair is assembled according to the drawing. The strength of the finished product largely depends on the choice of fasteners. To achieve maximum reliability, we use self-tapping screws only in unloaded connections. In areas with a high degree of load, we use fasteners consisting of bolts and nuts.

The advantage of bolting when assembling furniture is that the nuts can be tightened during operation and thus eliminate backlash and creaking.

Final balancing

How to balance skids for smooth rocking? Make sure there are no ridges or flat areas on the skids that could impede rocking. If there are such areas, round them off using a sander with sandpaper.

In addition, for smooth rocking without sticking, use the chair on a flat hard surface. If the furniture is to be used on personal plot, it is preferable to make the skids wide so that they do not imprint into the ground.

How to bend plywood for a rocking chair

How to make curved parts out of plywood without cutting out their contour from a single sheet, but by bending the strips along a given radius?

Illustrations How to bend

Steaming and bending. This is classical method, in which the part is soaked in boiling water, and then molded and fixed according to the template. After drying, the workpiece retains the specified radius.

The method is relevant for plywood of small thickness.

Cutting and bending. By inside of the intended bend, cuts are made on ¾ of the thickness of the sheet. After that, the workpiece bends.

To fix the radius, glue is poured into the cavity of the cuts and a strip of veneer is glued over the cuts.

This method is preferred for materials with a thickness greater than 25 mm.

How to make chair pads

Properly assembled furniture looks good on its own, but soft lining will make it more comfortable. The easiest option is to make pads in the shape of the seat and back on ribbon ties. You can make these patches yourself, or you can buy them ready-made.

Summing up

Now you know how to make a plywood rocking chair yourself. If after watching the video on choosing a design and assembling furniture, you still have questions, ask them in the comments to the article.

One of the components of a comfortable stay is comfortable furniture. The rocking chair makes it possible to quickly relieve tension after labor day, it is good to relax, indulge in pleasant memories or reflect on upcoming affairs. The simplest model is relatively inexpensive - within 5,000 rubles, but it is not a fact that it meets the wishes of the buyer in terms of individual parameters (dimensions, shape, finish).

By designing and assembling a simple plywood rocking chair with your own hands, you can not only make it the best option, based on the installation site, but also get real pleasure from the process itself.

By type

The author has looked at several sites dedicated to the topic self-manufacturing rocking chairs made of plywood, and I did not find an explanation on the question of which particular variety of plywood it is advisable to use. Anyone who thinks it doesn't matter is wrong. If you focus on moisture resistance and an affordable price, then there are few options -.

What's the Difference? The main thing is in the adhesive composition, which holds the layers of veneer together. In the manufacture of PSF sheets, phenol-formaldehyde resin is used, which releases toxins. It is for this reason that this plywood is only recommended for outdoor use. Therefore, in relation to a rocking chair (as well as any other piece of furniture), one should focus on the modification of the FC. Of course, if you think about own health and well-being of loved ones. From the point of view of "environmental cleanliness" there are no complaints about this plywood.

A more expensive modification of plywood is FOF. The surfaces of such sheets are laminated, so if the rocking chair is intended for installation outside the building (porch, open veranda, country gazebo or recreation area), it is better to purchase them. Yes and problem external design will fall off by itself.

By size

Do-it-yourself manufacturing also implies reasonable savings on everything, including material. It makes no sense to explain that the thicker the plywood, the more expensive its sheet. What is recommended?

  • For load-bearing structural elements (side supports, racks, etc.) - from 15 mm or more, depending on the expected load. Why is that? Some models of rocking chairs are made for the simultaneous use of not one, but two or three people. Especially when it comes to children. This is what should be taken into account when designing.
  • For all other details (for example, backrest trims, decorative elements) you can put plywood on 10.

By wood veneer

In principle, the choice is not so great. If the rocking chair is made exclusively for the home, that is, indoor installation, then it is better to use birch plywood. In other cases - pine, as a breed less prone to decay.

The very process of making rocking chairs with your own hands is not very difficult (plywood is a material that is quite malleable both for cutting and processing), but drawing up a drawing requires a competent approach. First of all, special engineering knowledge. If you focus on finished goods, using them as a prototype, you can make mistakes, for example, when determining all linear parameters. And few people will take measurements from a rocking chair right in the furniture store.

It is advisable to use the drawings available on the site. According to them, if you remember what scaling is, it is easy to draw up your own scheme and even somewhat modify the factory model in relation to the conditions for the further use of a rocking chair.

Examples of engineering solutions and drawings of a rocking chair

Rocking chair - manufacturing instructions

Stage 1. Drawing

It has already been said that it is better to take it ready-made, and then, if necessary, slightly modify it. When choosing a drawing, it is desirable to pay attention to next moment- the fewer points (lines) of connections in the design of the rocking chair, the better. Despite the sufficient strength of plywood, one should not forget that it is a multilayer gluing. Unlike a monolith (solid wood), a sheet is more susceptible to destruction from dynamic loads.

Stage 2. Pattern

On a format sheet (graph paper), in compliance with the scale, the scheme of the rocking chair is transferred from the drawing. But this applies only to the simplest options, with a minimum of structural elements. If a rather complex drawing is taken as the basis, then you will have to make a pattern for each part separately.

Stage 3. Plywood marking

At this stage, the main task is to lay all the prepared paper fragments as tightly as possible in order to reduce the amount of waste when cutting the sheet into parts. That is, you will have to experiment a little with the patterns, placing them in different positions. But the meaning of the work is clear.

Stage 4. Cutting plywood

The only recommendation is to use . With it, you can achieve the most accurate cutting. Otherwise (when working with a conventional file), you will additionally need to even out all the “roughness” on the cut line. And taking into account the fact that plywood consists of several glued thin layers of wood, it is extremely difficult to do it neatly with your own hands. As a result, individual parts will have to be rejected and their production started again.

Stage 5. Processing rocking chair elements

Smoothing the edges of plywood.

The main purpose of this technological operation is to remove the smallest fractions of wood from plywood, which will certainly remain after sawing the sheets. Visually, they may not be visible, but if the edges of the blanks are not smoothed out, then splinters (and permanent ones) when using a rocking chair are guaranteed.

Special processing.

Hoping that she is in a dry room is not worth it. Liquid droplets are always present in the air, regardless of the purpose of the room. And even more so on the street. But if solid wood (monolith) is relatively easy to bleach during the development of a fungus, then problems will arise with plywood in this regard. Therefore, it is not necessary to neglect this stage in the manufacture of a rocking chair.

Stage 6. Assembly

The specifics of this work is largely determined by the selected drawing. But some general recommendations will not be redundant.

One glue for the articulation of the elements, given the load on the rocking chair, will not be enough. To strengthen the structure, self-tapping screws (small, for wood) are used. Since the plywood sheet is not so thick, the fasteners must enter it strictly vertically. To do this, the primary canal is pre-drilled with a thin drill. Even if it goes at an angle, you can try again by moving the tool a little.

But the second penetration can already be done with a drill with a diameter slightly smaller than that of the screw leg. It will take more time for such a thorough preparation of mounting sockets for fasteners, but the error is completely eliminated.

The "tops" of all self-tapping screws must be recessed into the plywood sheet - this is self-explanatory. Therefore, you will need another drill, with a diameter approximately equal to the head of the fastener. Well, it is easy to determine the sufficient depth of the chamfer after the first drilling.

How to fix these "points" is decided based on general design rocking chairs. Mastic (sealant) of the appropriate shade can be selected. By the way, in specialized stores there are plastic plugs, which are just designed to mask fasteners in furniture.

Everything else is at the discretion of the master. For example, further finishing of rocking chairs. Everything is used - from paints and varnishes to foam rubber and fabrics. With your own hands it is not difficult to improve some of the drawings of standard models. For example, fix the springs on the supporting parts of the rocking chair.

If the manufactured chair sways with insufficient amplitude (balance is disturbed), and this does not suit the user, then you can try to increase the weight of its back. For example, connect the ends of the skids metal strip or a small channel. If necessary, add weight. Actually, fantasy itself will tell you the best way out of the situation.

It is best to foresee the possibility of quickly shifting the center of gravity of the chair. Then both adults and children can swing comfortably in it.

The article discusses the easiest options for making with your own hands and easily implemented technological operations. Experienced craftsmen they also assemble more complex structures, often using not individual sheets plywood, and gluing from them. But this is the next stage of professional growth.
