All more people in our country are beginning to be treated as a group of "potential tourists". People's incomes, though slowly but steadily, are growing, gradually smoothing out the difference with some Western countries. There are more opportunities to earn additional income. Tourism is gradually ceasing to be shuttle-shopping, becoming civilized - leisure and sightseeing. Travel agencies began to multiply by leaps and bounds, not only in megacities, but also in provincial territories. People flocked to them en masse. Now no one is surprised by the number of countries visited. Foreign tourism is encouraged by the absence, or only the initial stage of development of tourism infrastructure in places of potential recreation in our country. And there are enough places. The coast of the Black Sea, one of the places for Russian beach holidays, due to well-known political and economic factors, was temporarily forgotten, and is being revived only before our eyes. So far, the comfort of rest, its price factor, are turned towards foreign countries.

However, since not very long ago, all large quantity tourists began to think about the independent organization of their holidays abroad. I'll try to bring you main advantages and cons of independent rest in such a wonderful country as Greece. I worked on this issue and successfully implemented it for a vacation on the Greek island of Rhodes.

Since Greece is a visa country, which is part of the circle of countries united by the Schengen Agreement, the issue of obtaining a visa must be taken very seriously and responsibly. To apply for a visa on your own, you will need: a questionnaire, 1 photo, a certificate from work, a certificate of purchase of foreign currency, a copy of insurance if you are traveling with a child, a copy of the child’s birth certificate if you are traveling without a father, a copy of the father’s consent for the child’s trip. All documents must be notarized. But, as it seems to me, at least you should have the Consular Section of the Embassy of Greece available to you. Moreover, prepare for repeated visits to it. From the beginning, the documents will be accepted without verification, if they find something that is not clear, they will call, ask to come in for clarification. Come, explain the reason (by phone - no), bring the corrected again. And, without a queue, most likely they won’t let you in, the magic phrase does not work here: I was already here yesterday, I just have to give ...

If the Consular Section is not available, then you will have to trust professionals from the Internet (I would not), or use the service travel agency, some provide such services without purchasing a tour. What documents will be required here, everyone will say on the spot. Everything depends on them.

Now consider the advantages of independent rest.
Of course, this is savings. From our trip, we exclude the services of numerous freeloaders, oh, excuse me, intermediaries. And these are travel agencies, a carrier, that is, you yourself choose the airline, its discount promotions, exclude the price of booking a hotel. You can easily find a holiday hotel directly. To increase the savings, you can try to stay in small private hotels. Some of them offer Various types nutrition. They, of course, do not have beaches and, as a rule, are more remote from the sea. If the legs are young, this will not become a special obstacle, but even diversify your rest. The next plus is your mobility. You can not pre-pay for the entire stay at the hotel, and if you don’t like something, you can change the hotel, or even the city. If the tour is purchased through a travel agency, no matter how disgusting the hotel is, you are simply doomed to relax in it. I think this is the biggest plus!

Now, about some of the negative aspects, the so-called "cons". We have already talked about independent paperwork. I will not repeat. The next disadvantage is the language of the host country. If you speak at least English, it's already easier. If not, you will have to learn sign language, acquire a phrase book. In a purchased tour, if the hotel staff does not understand you, this is the concern of the hotel and the guide assigned to the tourists. In your case, saving a drowning person will be the work of the drowning person himself.

And last but not least, I'll highlight this in a separate paragraph, HEALTH INSURANCE. With independent rest, its registration is a must. The prices for medical services in Greece are very high. Even the treatment of a banal dislocation can result in a tidy sum. I'm not talking about something more serious. Of course, pah-pah over the left shoulder, but hope in God, but don't make a mistake yourself.

Greece is famous all over the world primarily for its beautiful beaches, wonderful nature and rich history. Here you can bask in the sun and swim, then go to see the most interesting sights, and then go through the many shops, and all this is in every resort town in Greece. The prices will please anyone, in Europe it is one of the most inexpensive countries, but the level of comfort and safety is at its best. This is a real paradise for relaxation, so more and more people go to Greece on their own, without travel agencies.

The season in Greece begins in mid-May and ends at the end of October, and the peak of the influx of tourists falls on July-August, during these months most of the hotels are packed to capacity, the beaches are crowded, and prices for everything rise significantly. But if you carefully approach the choice of a place to stay, you can find a picturesque town or urban-type village with a minimum of vacationers, low prices and clean beaches even in the most popular months.

If you want to relax in Greece on your own at the lowest prices and without the ubiquitous crowds of tourists, then it is better to go to this country from early September to mid-October. At this time, prices are significantly reduced, hotels are half empty, shops offer goods at huge discounts, and the sea is still warm and comfortable for swimming. You can also go from May to mid-June, however, the water in the sea will be quite cool, but it will not hurt to see the sights and go shopping.

Independent holidays in Greece compares favorably with the offers of travel agencies in the following ways:

  • I travel on my own, only you decide when and where to go to rest
  • You can create your own interesting and memorable sightseeing program, which will not look like boring standard excursions "for everyone"
  • You can save a lot by going to independent travel in Greece, however, for this you need to follow certain rules budget holiday
  • You can travel all over Greece by car and see the most Beautiful places who have not yet managed to "trample" millions of tourists
  • It is independent travelers who get much more positive emotions and interesting acquaintances, and they also have an amazing opportunity to get to know the mentality better Greek people, which in itself is fascinating and promises many adventures that will be remembered for a lifetime.

Flights

It is better to buy tickets to Greece in advance, so you will save a lot of money, because 3-6 months before the date of the flight, prices are minimal. Of course, you can wait for "burning" tickets, but they do not always happen, and the chance to stay without rest at all is very high, because. during the season, tickets to Greece sell like hot cakes.

You can buy tickets at. I myself am looking for air tickets only on Aviasales, the functionality of the site is completely satisfied, the purchase process is simplified as much as possible, and the prices are low. Thanks to this site, I have already saved so much money that I could afford to take another trip around the world.

Most flights to Greece depart from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kyiv. The most popular route is Moscow - Athens (Moscow - Athens), the plane will reach the destination in just 3 hours 15 minutes (the fastest direct flight). The price of a round-trip ticket from Moscow starts from 200 €. The cheapest way is to take tickets with transfers, but then the travel time will increase by several hours.

It will be useful for some travelers to learn how to travel to Greece by car on their own. You can find out about traveling by car in Europe at. Please note that such a vacation requires much more time and effort to organize it, and in terms of money it comes out more expensive than an “airplane” one.

Hotels

Prices for hotels in Greece depend on the month (in July and August they are the highest) and on the popularity of the resort (in Athens and Thessaloniki they are the highest). But everyone who wants to get to Hellas (this is the "root" name of Greece) can find housing on his wallet. The most expensive rooms will cost in coastal apartments.

Greece is one of the top three popular summer destinations, but in the spring and autumn seasons, here it is slightly inferior to other countries. Why is the country so attractive for tourists?

Hellas, glorified by the ancients, beckons not only with the wonders of the world, monuments of architecture and history that have survived to this day, but also with beautiful beaches, most of which have been awarded a distinction. The nature of mainland Greece, as well as the island, gives the impression of discreet, but unique beauty. Rocky shores, grottoes, caves, secluded beaches and olive groves - cannot but touch your soul.

And whoever tasted the natural, tasty and healthy Mediterranean cuisine will forever remain its fan.

It remains only to choose when and where to go. And in this we will try to help you.

Weather

Going to Greece, it would not hurt to know that due to its large extent and diverse landscape, its territory can be divided into several climatic zones, weather which often differ significantly.

The northern part of the country (Macedonia, the north of the Central part and Thessaly) is located in the mountainous temperate climate. This is where the famous ski resorts, because the snow cover is stable from the second half of December to mid-April. In summer it is warm up to +27°С.

It is warmer in the north-east of the country (Thrace and Eastern Macedonia), in the temperate European climate zone. It is hot here in summer, there is practically no precipitation, and winter, on the contrary, is characterized by an abundance of rain and cold weather.

The Mediterranean climate extends to southern part countries (eastern Peloponnese, southern Central Greece, Cyclades, Crete and Dodecanese), i.e. to the seaside resorts beloved by tourists. The local summer is hot and dry, you can swim from the beginning of May until the very end of October. In some regions, strong winds spoil the weather. Winter is warm and rainy.

As you can see, you should come on excursions before the peak of the beach season, when there are not so many tourists yet and the temperature is not too high, i.e. April-May or September-October. June-early-September is traditionally the beach season, which peaks in July-August, which means crowds of people and high prices. What month is the warmest? As for lovers of mountain slopes, they are expected in Greece in January-March.

You can plan your vacation time based not only on the warmest sea, sunny and non-rainy days, but also on the ripening of seasonal fruits. After all, being in warm countries, you should not deprive yourself of the pleasure of tasting a real storehouse of vitamins. Do you know which months ripen in Greece?

How to get there

The main transport for tourists going to Greece is the plane. Regular traffic connects Moscow and St. Petersburg with Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Santorini and Zakynthos. In addition, many charter flights will allow you to get to Corfu, Kos, Rhodes, Patra, etc.

A minimum of time spent, accessibility and comfort make most tourists choose air travel and not look for other options, which are not so many. Because since recently there is no railway connection with Greece, then the only thing left for aerophobes is a bus that regularly cruises between Kyiv and Athens (or Thessaloniki) or Chisinau and the Greek capital.

Popular resorts

Thanks to the fact that nature has generously endowed Greece, the country can offer holidays for every taste and every requirement. It remains to choose.

For a beach holiday, resorts of 3 coasts are chosen: the Mediterranean, the Aegean and the Ionian. And if the first is traditionally chosen for families with children (because it is warmer), and the second is the longest and replete with resorts, then the coast of the Ionian Sea is not so popular, because. the swimming season here is the shortest. It remains to choose on one or another coast.

If you are young and cannot imagine your vacation without noisy parties, discos and incendiary parties, then Mykonos, Faliraki on Rhodes, Malia and Hersonnissos on Crete will suit you.

For a rich excursion program, which in Greece can always be combined with a beach holiday, you should go to Athens, Thessaloniki, Katerini and the Peloponnese.

O. Corfu offers an elite holiday, although here you can find holidays at fairly reasonable prices.

Islands are often chosen for holidays with children: about. Rhodes, oh Kos and of course the warmest one is Crete, where you can advise Paleochora, Panormo and Plakias. Chanioti enjoys a good reputation as a family resort on the Chalkidiki peninsula.

Do not forget health. If recovery and spa treatments are offered at almost every resort, then the resorts of Euboea, Samothraki, Loutraki (where, by the way, there is one of the largest casinos in Europe), Platistomo, Edipsos and Picrolimini have gained popularity as really healing resorts.

And although many do not imagine that there is snow in Greece, the country can offer a ski holiday. high level. Equipped with modern lifts, slopes different levels difficulties and even illuminated for extreme night skiing - resorts are becoming more and more popular. Here are some of them: Parnassus, Falakro, Kaimaktsalan and Vasilitsa.

Hotels

The country's hotel industry is different from the usual European one. There are no stars here, the category is denoted by the letters Deluxe, A, B, C, where the first one corresponds to a 5-star hotel, and the last one is a 2nd category hotel.

Usually hotel C has a small area without a pool and sports grounds. Its rooms are small, simply furnished with the essentials. However, even in them, tourists are waiting for air conditioning and a TV. Breakfast is usually included in the price.

Category B and A indicate that the hotel rooms will be spacious enough. The infrastructure of such a hotel is represented by at least a luggage storage, laundry and often a tour desk. The meals offered correspond to half board.

But just as a category C hotel can be a great place to relax with friendly staff, a small but cozy area, a category A hotel can be a place where you want to come only to sleep. We recommend that you check the rating of the hotel on well-known booking sites, set by the tourists who have been there.

Greece hotels offer several types of food:

  • half board;
  • boarding house;
  • all inclusive.

Deluxe class hotels usually allocate more “premium all inclusive” and “ultra all inclusive”, which differ from the usual in an expanded range of services: from elite drinks to free towels, sports or even massage. Everything will depend on the specific hotel. In C-B hotels, only breakfast is usually provided. Category A hotels most often offer half board, this is breakfast and dinner.

Most hotels provide for accommodation with children, for whom there is a special menu and high chairs, there are clubs where they are looked after by qualified educators, and animation. However, such services are provided only during the season.

Being with children means having fun. Numerous water parks, which are located in many resorts of the country, will help you with this. The largest water parks are the following:

Worldwide stores in Athens, Thessaloniki, Crete and Rhodes: Zara, Marks & Spencer, Oysho, Levi's, Lacoste, Burberry, Trussardi, etc.

But for fur coats known to our tourists, you should go to Kastoria, where there are factories for sewing fur products.

But the real paradise for shopaholics are Greek outlets, where you can buy goods with significant discounts. The largest outlet is located in the center of Athens and occupies an entire street - "Athen Designer Outlet". The shopping centers "The Golden Hall" and "The Mall Athens" deserve attention.

In the suburbs of Athens, there is an outlet village "McArthurGlen", on the territory of which there are more than 110 stores.

  • The middle and end of summer is the high season, the scorching sun, crowds of tourists and expensive tours and the overpriced stay on the island itself. At the beginning and, in some resorts, in the middle of autumn, prices are not so high, there are not so many visitors, and the weather is great. At this time, it is better to choose Rhodes, Santoniri, Kos, Corfu and Santorini for relaxation.
  • Starting in November, the cold snap comes, winds and rains. At this time, it is better not to come here if the purpose of the trip is not to see local attractions, which Greece is certainly rich in. In November, it can only be good here in Crete, Rhodes and Santorini. Other resorts at this time are no longer ready to receive guests.
  • The winter months are the low season, and it is only in December that you can have a pleasant vacation if you come to Kos or Crete. However, the last resort is not as comfortable as the others during the summer months. The best choice would be and .
  • As for spring, the tourist season opens in Greece in March only in Crete and Rhodes. The rest of the resort areas are ready to receive guests from April and May. In some places, the water is not warm enough even in June, and lovers of swimming in the warm sea will have to wait about a month.

Resorts of Greece: TOP 6 best places to stay

Crete

Perfect service in hotels. Best to go in September and October.

The tourist season in the northern part of Crete lasts. In the south, it lasts from November to November, so you can still enjoy the warm water in the sea throughout October. Therefore, if you decide to go to Crete in the middle of spring or autumn, choose the southern part of the island.

However, May is also characterized by heavy rainfall. In June, the precipitation stops, it becomes warm, but the water in the sea is not pleasant on all coasts - we advise you to go to the coast of the Cretan Sea, since it is still cold in Libya at this time.

The hottest months in Crete are July and August. At this time, it is better to spend your holidays only on the coast, where the strong heat is not so noticeable due to the sea breeze.

The best month and October is the velvet season. The heat is not so strong, and the sea is warm - about 26 degrees. There is no rain. The downside is the peak of tourist activity, which is unlikely to please anyone. However, you can avoid many troubles if you book the tour in advance.

In winter, Crete will be comfortable for those who travel to Greece not for a gentle, even tan and warm sea, but to get acquainted with history and rich architecture. At this time, the average temperature is 17 degrees, there are not so many tourists.

Rhodes

A sea of attractions! The best time for holidays from June to October.

The tourist season in Rhodes begins in March and continues until November. Beach lovers can go to the Aegean or the Mediterranean Sea - the first is rough, stormy, the second is calm and beautiful. Surfers often go to the Aegean Sea.

Most of the tourists prefer to plan their vacation in Rhodes in the summer - at the peak of the season. Prices at this time, of course, are high, but all entertainment venues are open until the morning.

When the low tourist season comes, some hotels start to close. This happens at the end of November, and traces of past fun and the influx of tourists can no longer be found. This lull lasts until April.

The beach season almost repeats the tourist season in time. You can already enjoy sea water, however, some especially impatient people plunge into it at the beginning of spring.

The velvet season in Rhodes falls, as in Crete, at the beginning and middle of autumn. Sometimes it also covers part of November. At the same time, not only the weather is good at this time, but also reduced prices.

In November, however, it starts to rain, and many restaurants and summer cafes complete their work before the next season.

Many will be interested in the famous Colossus of Rhodes, Rhodes Acropolis, Archaeological Museum, Rhodes Fortress, Filerimos Monastery, Theraklos Fortress and Mount Ataviros.

Santorini

Interesting city architecture fresh air and sea.

In Santorini the tourist season starts in mid-spring and ends in October. Its peak is in the summer - the sun shines incredibly strongly at this time. Throughout the day, you can enjoy pleasant live music from taverns located on the coast; in the evening, tourists visit nightclubs. In the summer months, we advise you to book hotel rooms in advance - the influx of tourists is unusually large.

The low season in Santorini starts in November and lasts until March. During these cold months, it is windy and humid, and ferries between cities are rare.

The velvet season begins at the end of September, when tourists gradually begin to return home. Those who are lucky enough to have a vacation in mid-autumn stay and get the opportunity to enjoy pleasant warmth and peace. The velvet season continues until the end of October.

If you are interested in festivals, in Santorini they are most often held on religious holidays. In July, for example, “Agios Ionnis” is celebrated in Monolithos, and at the end, the memory of the patron Profitis Ilias is honored. In mid-August - the 15th - the day of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated.

Kos

Rich Mediterranean fauna, accessible beaches.

Kos is not as famous as other resorts, but it is also very good here - the infrastructure is excellently developed, the weather is warm. The tourist season, like on other Greek islands, lasts from April to October.

The peak is in July, August and the first weeks of September. The temperature at this time rises above 30 degrees, and there is a possibility of getting burns, especially being near the water, which reflects the sun's rays well.

The low season falls on the winter months, capturing the last days of November and the whole of March. At this time there are heavy rains, cool. There are practically no tourists, so the ferry service between the islands is very weak.

People start going to the beach about a month after the opening of the tourist season. You can swim in the warm sea until October. The velvet season starts from the second half of September and lasts until the end of October. The sun at this time pleasantly warms without burning, the water in the sea is warm, prices are falling.

We advise you to visit the Ancient Agora - this is a historical area with many ruins of buildings belonging to completely different eras. Also interesting are the Archaeological Museum, the village of Zia, Palio Pili, Asklepion and Kefalos, a city located in the south of Kos.

Corfu
