Garden paths are an important attribute landscape design. It should be borne in mind that they should be not only beautiful, but also functional. And in this article I would like to consider the tracks to which you do not need to draw attention. Asphalt pavement is ideal for such garden paths.

Disadvantages of asphalt pavement

Firstly, chemical composition asphalt leads to the fact that in summer the asphalt surface sometimes smells unpleasant.

Secondly, asphalt is prone to cracking and warping. But more often this happens due to poor-quality paving or improperly selected weather conditions: it is best to lay asphalt in warm weather and on a carefully prepared surface.

What can be attractive asphalt garden path?
Asphalt is quite cheap! And most importantly, it is easy to clean. Asphalt is ideal for "inconspicuous" and extremely functional paths leading to the garage, shed. It can also be considered as an option for covering a broken concrete walkway.

Of the other positive aspects, it is worth noting that the asphalt is colored (there is red, green asphalt), which can be an excellent decorative solution. And if, when laying, roll pebbles into the asphalt pavement, then it may well look like a design element of the garden.

So, what do we need for asphalt laying?

Materials and tools:

  • sand
  • gravel
  • curb blocks or bricks
  • bitumen
  • rubble
  • hard brush
  • stroke
  • garden roller

Instructions for laying an asphalt garden path

1. First, prepare the ground. If this is not done, then the asphalt may crack over time, and the surface garden path will not be smooth and solid. A solid foundation will be obtained by mixing sand and gravel. The resulting composition should be laid out in a thick layer of 6 cm on hard ground. If the old path serves as the foundation, first of all, it is necessary to close up all the holes.
2. For good drainage, do not forget about a slight slope.
3. The most vulnerable areas of the asphalt pavement are the edges, which often begin to crumble. To avoid this, we strengthen the borders with curb blocks or bricks. Wooden blocks are also suitable for this purpose.
4. We pass to the most crucial moment - laying. We cover the surface with bitumen. First mix it, then pour it out of the container and apply to the entire surface using a stiff brush.
5. We fall asleep on top of the crushed stone (size 0.5-2 cm) and begin to press the crushed stone into the bitumen. Layer thickness 2 cm. Seal the surface properly to avoid air pockets.
6. We make several approaches with a garden roller.
7. We fill in the visible voids and go over the surface with the rink a few more times.
8. We fence the edges of the path with a curb. Bricks placed on edge are ideal for this purpose: in addition to a functional border that prevents the edges of the path from crumbling, their location will help make the path part of the design intent of the entire site.

Nowadays, the most popular road surface is asphalt. This is due to his high physical and chemical characteristics and features.

Benefits of using asphalt pavement for driveways and driveways:

practical;
- resistant to the influence of natural factors;
- resistant to loads from pedestrians and vehicles;
- easy to clean.

Properly executed asphalt laying will serve you faithfully for many years. And if you attach a little imagination, it will also play a decorative role.

Do-it-yourself asphalting of paths and the entrance to the house can be divided into several stages:

Excavation;
- preparation of the base for laying asphalt;
- laying asphalt pavement on the base;
- compaction of asphalt;
- Maintenance of asphalt pavement.

Excavation

First of all, it is necessary to assess the scope of work, draw up a diagram of the location of the paths and the entrance to the house. At the same time, it is necessary to take into account the location of underground utilities, the terrain - in order to properly develop drainage system, vegetation. big trees have huge roots, which over time can damage the integrity of the coating.

Asphalting the paths and the entrance to the house begins with the removal of the top layer of soil. Excavation can be done with a shovel or specially designed equipment (bulldozers, excavators, etc.). The depth of excavation can be different - it all depends on what your asphalt pavement is intended for:
- if this is a footpath, then it is enough to remove only upper layer land (about 10-30 cm);

If this is an asphalt driveway to the house, then it is rational to count on the weight of a truck (up to 10 tons), in case you need to bring something to the site or to the house. Therefore, for such a case, it will be necessary to dig deeper.

It is also necessary to provide that during rain water goes past the asphalted part into the drainage system, and does not accumulate under or on it. withdrawn fertile layer soil can be used for backfilling flower beds, beds. Excess land must be removed from the site (territory near the house), and not left in a pile near the finished road. The soil can be washed off by rain into the drainage system or washed onto the asphalt.

The prepared area for asphalting must be compacted. To do this, you can use a soil roller.
Substrate preparation for asphalt laying

In order to carry out high-quality asphalting of the paths and the entrance to the house with your own hands, you need to lay a solid reliable foundation for the future coating. The base for asphalt can be:

Non-rigid (sand, crushed stone, gravel);
- rigid (concrete slabs).

Since the loads on the coating will be non-intensive and small, then as a base it is necessary:

For the entrance to the house, pour crushed stone of a fraction of 40-70 mm with a thickness of 10-15 cm;

For asphalting the path, add crushed stone of a fraction of 40-70 mm with a thickness of 5-10 cm.

You can pour more, but it is impractical. After pouring large gravel, it must be leveled evenly over the entire area, and also compacted.

After that, the second stage of backfilling begins:

Crushed stone (fraction 20-40, you can also add another layer of screenings; the smaller the fraction at the top, the lower the likelihood of cracking on the asphalt) 10 cm thick;

Sandy flooring 10 cm thick.

This layer also needs to be evenly distributed and compacted. It is recommended to shed sandy flooring with water, so it settles better and the base will be stronger. Compaction can be done with rollers or vibro-compactors. The better the compaction will be carried out before asphalting the paths and the entrance to the house, the stronger the base will be and the asphalt coating will last longer.

The second option is the base for asphalt - use reinforced concrete slabs or fill concrete base manually. But this method is expensive and impractical.

Another option is also possible - laying the base of broken stone. To do this, rather large parts of the stone are used, which must be laid tightly to each other on the ground, forming a flat area with laid out stones on the surface (reminiscent of laying paving stones). Such a base will also be very strong and will be able to withstand heavy loads. The disadvantage of this method is that the process is very laborious and requires patience, since the stones themselves are heavy, and they still need to be firmly fixed in the ground and fit together as firmly as possible, laying out a stone square.

At the same stage of asphalting, it is necessary to install the side stone. It is essential for the durability of the asphalt pavement - it prevents spreading and maintains the integrity of the pavement within its laying. Borders play an excellent decorative role. When asphalting paths with your own hands, you can use small curbs - the aesthetics and convenience of such a solution are beyond doubt.
Laying asphalt pavement on the base

It is very difficult to properly prepare asphalt so that it does not lose its advantages and retains its characteristics. So best choice is to purchase ready-made hot asphalt concrete at the nearest highway or asphalt plant. The advantages of purchasing ready-made asphalt are obvious:

You will receive high-quality prepared material, which will be delivered directly to the place of work;

A ton of finished asphalt will cost about 860 hryvnias including VAT (1 ton of asphalt, when laid 5 cm thick, is approximately enough for asphalting 10 m2 of territory).

It should be noted that if all previous work could be carried out at any temperature, then the asphalting of paths and entrances to the house must be carried out at an air temperature of at least 5-10 degrees Celsius, preferably no precipitation. The presence of these factors leads to the fact that the asphalt will cool very quickly and it will not be possible to compact it well. This can subsequently lead to premature destruction of the coating.

Exists different types asphalt:

Coarse-grained;
- fine-grained;
- sandy.

Most the best option there will be a choice of fine-grained or sandy asphalt concrete, since the surface will be smooth, dirt from shoes, car wheels will settle on it less, cleaning will take less time. Crushed stone and gravel mixtures, in turn, are divided into types: A, B, C, D, D (according to GOST 9128-97).

Consider the implementation of asphalting paths and the entrance to the house with your own hands on the example of asphalt concrete G-4. It is a modern smooth road surface. Consists of crushed stone fraction 5-15 mm, sand, mineral powder and bitumen. These materials are mixed at a temperature of 175 degrees Celsius and delivered to the work site.

As soon as hot asphalt is delivered to you, you need to immediately start laying it. For this, an asphalt paver can be used at the entrances to the house. On the tracks, it is convenient to lay out the asphalt with an ordinary shovel and level it evenly over the entire area. Immediately, depending on the thickness of the asphalt, it is necessary to compact it manually or by self-propelled mechanisms. Since the loads on the surface will not be large, it will be enough to lay one layer of asphalt. The optimal thickness of an asphalted entrance to the house is 5-7 cm, and for asphalted paths - 3-4 cm.

asphalt compaction

The quality and timely implementation of asphalt compaction determines its service life. The compaction process can be carried out using:

Rollers;
- ramming;
- vibrations.

In order to compact the asphalt pavement yourself, you can use:

vibrating plate;
- two-roll manual roller;
- light vibratory tandem roller.

The optimum temperature for asphalt compaction is 105-120 degrees Celsius. The lower the temperature of the mixture, the more passes of the roller are needed. For example, at an asphalt temperature of 70 degrees Celsius, 3 passes of the roller are required. This is due to the increase in the coating compaction force.

To avoid sticking of the mixture to the roller, it is moistened with water. The roller must move smoothly, avoiding reverse movement and the same number of times in all paving lanes. For large cross slopes, compaction should always be carried out from the bottom up. Do-it-yourself stoppage of the skating rink when asphalting the paths and the entrance to the house on a hot asphalt concrete mixture is prohibited. When compacted with a roller, the occurrence of transverse seams is inevitable. They must be leveled by compacting perpendicular to the direction of laying the asphalt mix. The protrusion of the drum beyond the hot loose coating should be 10-20 cm.
Asphalt care
Asphalting walkways and driveways
Properly laid asphalt pavement will serve faithfully for many years. In order to maximize the life of the coating, you must adhere to some rules of operation:

1 - do not drive onto the asphalt with machinery that can damage the canvas (for example, caterpillar tractors);

2 - during extreme heat, the asphalt heats up and can deform under the weight of a heavy vehicle. The result is swelling, influxes, waves.

3 - it is necessary to monitor the condition of the coating. Cracks, small holes must be repaired as soon as possible using bitumen, cement or cold asphalt. This type of asphalt is very convenient for the repair of paved paths and driveways to the house, since work with it can be carried out at temperatures from -20 to +40 degrees, at any weather conditions. The repaired area will meet all the parameters of strength and endurance. The only negative is that such asphalt is more expensive.

Asphalt paths and driveways to the house have the following advantages:

This is a reliable cover;
- has a good aesthetic appearance;
- convenience in cleaning;
- Relatively small costs for materials and work are required.

Therefore, asphalt is competitive today, and will compete with other methods of landscaping in the future.

The main terms this material is crushed stone, ordinary river sand, bituminous resin, as well as polymer materials for laying on the surface. The last component is not always used, as it is expensive, they are mainly used in the construction of motorways and highways. Despite the fact that all the components can be found in the shed, it will be a little difficult to make a paving in the country. You need to seriously prepare for this process.

We need a container for mixing the “ingredients”, a hearth of fire (can be a fire) for 6-8 hours continuously, about 100 liters of water to cool the suspension, as well as one of the pastes so that everything is kept in a pile. Resin or bitumen (preferably) can play its role. Consider step by step instructions for manufacturing.

Step 1 We prepare the container.

The first step is to make a prototype of a concrete mixer, since “killing” is expensive and useful item will be irrational. For our purposes, a metal oil barrel or diesel fuel that sell branded products. If you don’t have one, you can buy it for a penny (or borrow it free of charge) from any farmer or from the company itself, which pours oil into retail containers. They are often thrown into scrap metal as a waste product. Close the lid, drill holes in the center from the bottom. We thread a metal rod (pipe, corner, square, etc.) and scald with inverter welding so that there is no leak anywhere. We weld an L-shaped twig to one of the edges, it turns out a “spit”.

Step 2 We mix the components.

We pour crushed stone into our “concrete mixer”, add a little sand (2: 1) there, mix everything thoroughly. Can't pick up wet Construction Materials- they will immediately stick together, and it will be very difficult to pick them off the metal walls.

Step 3 We heat bitumen and polymer additives.

In a separate container (it is best to take a 15-liter bucket), we need to heat the bitumen to a boil, for better elasticity, you can add shampoo to it. It then burns out, but it will be much more convenient to interfere. We also add polymers and plasticizers there.

Step 4 We mix everything together.

You don’t need a lot of imagination here, just take and add boiling bitumen to a preheated barrel with crushed stone and sand. Important: you can not mix if the barrel and all the components are not warmed up - the bitumen will quickly cool down and it will be unrealistic to stir. For convenience, you can first add 50 liters of water to a barrel and bring to a boil. After that, pour in the bitumen and stir until the water evaporates.

The boiling point of water is 100 degrees, exactly what we need for bitumen to make it fluid and sticky. Remember that you can not overheat this material - it ignites at a temperature of 170 degrees, so watch the water. Just finished - pour it out!

Step 5 We fill in the holes.

The area into which you will pour the asphalt must be thoroughly cleaned, preferably blown out with a compressor. After pouring the hot mixture, you need to take a roller or any other tool (rammer) and compact the material. Be sure to moisten the metal of the tool with water so that it does not stick to the bitumen during tamping.

If you follow the instructions, then making asphalt at home will be safe, fast and even very interesting!

What is cold asphalt and what is its feature

Quite recently, a rather interesting product, polymeric asphalt, came to the territory of Russia. Its peculiarity is that it can be laid absolutely at any temperature. Tests showed excellent viscosity and stickiness even at -20C, which makes it possible to repair roads or make an entrance to the cottage even in winter.

It includes fluid bitumen grade SG or MG 70/130, characterized by increased viscosity. It also contains special plasticizers and modifiers that act similarly to " cold welding". Due to this, it is possible even negative temperature receive excellent result. The paths will have increased strength and will last much longer than conventional asphalt. The technology has been introduced for more than 5 years in Russia, and now anyone can buy such material.

It makes no sense to look for a method of how to make asphalt with your own hands, since cold technology implies a high-tech manufacturing process under pressure and is not available at home. Its cost is much higher than usual pavement and therefore rarely used in industry. But every summer resident can buy right amount for making paths in the garden or a small entrance for the car. You can buy in a regular store. Installation does not require special knowledge: just pour the mixture into the right place and compact with any convenient way, even car tires.

How to make new asphalt from old pavement

Another very popular method to ennoble a site without much capital investment is to use the old pavement as the main raw material for the manufacture of a new one. To do this, we need about 100 kg of the old coating that is thrown away during the repair of the highway, fresh bitumen, 10 kg of resin for elasticity and a concrete hardener. Consider step by step what needs to be done.

we make a concrete mixer with the help of an oil barrel and a twig as described in the first section of the article.

Step 2 We grind the components.

With a hammer it is necessary to break all the large pieces left from the old road. Check that the fraction of all components is fine, up to 40 mm. Add some sand there, mix everything. We begin to heat the barrel with the old asphalt and sand placed in it, pour 60-70 liters of water, bring it to a boil and “cook the soup”.

Step 3 We prepare a solution for addition.

Now it's time to take care of the liquid term. Since the old pavement already contains some bitumen, we will need 50% less bitumen. That is, we take about 10 kg of bitumen and 10 kg of resin for 100 kg of material, heat it to a boil. Then pour it all into a heated barrel with other components, mix thoroughly with a metal rod.

Homemade asphalt from free components is ready. Now it remains to pour it into pre-cleaned pits or onto a site prepared for laying. Such material will serve you for more than one year and will be no worse than "branded".

Asphalt is a fairly reliable material used to cover roads. For high loads brands with the best performance, for example, M1200.

Less dense material (M1000) cannot withstand the loads from the mass of numerous vehicles, for this reason it is usually laid only when constructing sidewalks and paths.

First of all, it is necessary to plan the area on which the asphalt will be laid. Necessary work are planned taking into account the purpose of the coverage. For a "light" freeway, with a low flow of cars, it will be necessary to pour only 1 layer of crushed stone, and for the construction of a serious highway, a minimum of 3 layers is required.

The crushed stone fractions are arranged from maximum to minimum, after which they are carefully rolled with a roller. This is required to create a special cushion (base), on which the asphalt is poured. All work on laying asphalt is carried out taking into account the requirements of SNiP and GOST.

There are 2 main technologies for pouring asphalt:

  1. Cold way. They are most often used to repair asphalt pavements, since such material seizes in short term, and repaired asphalt can be used without restrictions;
  2. Hot way. Used to create new asphalt pavement. For this method, the heated bitumen-based mixture must be poured and rolled until it has cooled down.

The cost of repairing bitumen should not be less than 0.5 l, and when creating a new route, the material consumption must be calculated separately. In this case, it is necessary to take into account not only the dimensions of the asphalt surface, but also its structure, and possible additional factors.

During operation, you must use without fail a special thermometer that makes it possible to measure the temperature of the bituminous mixture. Permanent check This indicator is of great importance, because after the material has cooled down it can no longer be used for asphalt pavement.

Application of impregnation

Now 3 types of impregnations are used for this purpose:

  1. Based on acrylic polymer. Most expensive coverage, it is used only in small spaces, for example, on a tennis court. They create the most quality protection in addition, it is produced in several colors;
  2. Coal tar. Oil resistant coating. With the help of special components is achieved in addition to long term service, but outwardly attractive shade;
  3. asphalt emulsion. An affordable and popular material, but it is not able to provide the necessary protection of the coating, which makes it necessary to repair the asphalt canvas more often.

If cracks appear on the asphalt, a non-bituminous mixture can be used for repair. And it is better to use a sealant sprinkled with cement on top.

To ensure maximum strength of the pavement and prevent the formation of cracks, special grids are placed under the asphalt.

They create a high-quality coupling of the new coating, increase the operational characteristics of the asphalt and increase the time of its use.

Compaction is essential when laying asphalt pavement. It is produced with the help of special machines - a roller, an asphalt paver or a vibrating plate is used, this is not very mobile equipment, but it has a number of advantages over other rolling methods. For example, an asphalt paver can perform at least 2 types of work, and a vibrating plate is the most maneuverable among them.

Asphalt laying according to GOST

The components are mixed according to GOST 9128, the mixture is divided into 2 types, according to the laying conditions:

  • for use at temperatures exceeding +5 degrees;
  • for use at temperatures in the range of -25 - + 5 degrees.

Crushed stone, which is part of the mixture for asphalt laying, must be selected in accordance with the requests specified in GOST 8267, screening is normalized according to GOST 8736. As a binder component of the mixture, bitumen is used - BND 90\130 and BND 60\90, corresponding to GOST 22245.

Influence of the material on the quality of asphalt pavement

In order not to buy low-quality asphalt concrete, the seller must be required to provide a certificate of conformity for the product. There are a number of laboratories that perform asphalt testing and sampling. Asphalt analysis is carried out by examining a selected core (asphalt rod).

Improvement of asphalt pavements

Despite the practicality, asphalt canvases can be upgraded. One of effective methods is the use of mastics specifically designed to improve asphalt. They contain bitumen, and special emulsions for it, which include rubber and polymer additives.

Bituminous mastics, in most cases, are used heated, and emulsions without heating. Mastics close the pores and cracks on the surface of the asphalt, this does not allow moisture to penetrate under the asphalt and destroy its structure - moisture breaks the coating when it freezes, and creates water hammer when the vehicle passes.

Do-it-yourself asphalt paving

In your home or country house, asphalt pavements are suitable for pavements and paths, blind areas are made of them. In addition, such material can be used to create roofing.

Paths are laid in stages:

  1. Remove trash beforehand and remove the soil to a depth of 30 cm;
  2. After that, the curbs are installed, serving not only as decoration, but also as walls for bitumen;
  3. Next, arrange a pillow. A layer of crushed stone is covered by 15 cm, then it is compacted, a layer of crushed stone of a fine fraction is covered and rolled again. Sand is poured last, with a layer of 5 cm. The prepared pillow must be well shed with water and then rolled with a hand roller;
  4. Hot asphalt must be evenly spread over the area of the track. After that, the irregularities are leveled with a mop-engine, while simultaneously filling the resulting recesses with new portions of asphalt. Since the material cools quickly, the work is best done with 1-2 assistants;
  5. After the asphalt is laid and leveled, you need to compact it with a hand roller. Before work, the roller must be lubricated with diesel fuel, this will help create an even and smooth coating (asphalt will stick to a dry roller). It is advisable to lubricate all the tools used in the work with diesel fuel.

When laying asphalt, it is important to monitor its temperature. It must be maintained at a level of at least 120 degrees, the coating laid from cold material will completely deteriorate in a short time.

In addition, when laying, it is important to carry out only direct movements with tools, in no case should they be returned to themselves along the surface of the coating.

After completion of all work, it is possible to impregnate the coating by replacing the impregnation with a special paint intended for asphalt. With its help, you can get the shade you need.

asphalt repair

The structure of asphalt is destroyed not only from physical exertion, but also under the influence of the rays of the sun, which eventually destroys the bitumen and makes the surface brittle.

There are 3 main asphalt recovery technologies:

  1. The first way: sealing cracks in the coating with the help of tar. The surface to be repaired is pre-cleaned. Taking into account the size of the crack, it is covered with sand for 2-3 cm and then filled with tar, or with a small width of the defect, tar is used immediately. After 10-15 minutes have passed, the sealed asphalt must be leveled with a spatula. Do the same with the rest of the cracks on the surface.
  2. The second way: you can buy rolls with ready-made asphalt. This is an inexpensive and practical product and, importantly, it is convenient to use for small repairs. The rolls are rolled out, and by removing protective layer, are located on the surface with an adhesive surface. For a few seconds, you need to press the roll tightly, and the repair is completed.
  3. The third way: will make it possible to eliminate small holes and damage on the asphalt surface. The defect must be cleaned in advance, remove all debris and sweep out the dust. Densely fills all voids with bituminous composition. After 2-3 minutes, the sealed place must be leveled and tamped.

To prevent the destruction of asphalt, it must be renewed every 4-5 years, and the detected cracks should be sealed with water and chemically resistant sealant.

If the asphalt began to crumble, then such a coating must be completely changed. It is very easy to apply the sealant, pour it out of the container and brush the surface to be treated well with a stiff brush.

Asphalt repair in winter

To repair asphalt in winter, you will need to pre-prepare the place of work: clean the snow, chip off the ice and treat the defect site with a special compound.

Snow and moisture cool the asphalt, for this reason, in wet weather, laying and repairing thick layers of the canvas is not worth it.

In case of light precipitation, it is possible to perform work exclusively on the entire asphalt canvas, and it is impossible to pour asphalt at intervals, during snowstorms and during heavy rain. Otherwise, after a short time, the bituminous coating will require repair.

If you eliminate defects on time, repairing the most worn out places, then it will last much longer. The most important thing in repair is to carry out the milling correctly, which means to remove the layer of the old coating in the place of the defect using milling cutters.

A joint cutter is also necessary to remove the used coating layer, and to create seams. Heated asphalt is transported in a coher, it is designed to transport hot bituminous mass. To reduce costs manual labor, specialized enterprises use real automated systems.

For example, for the repair of highways, units are used to remove a layer of worn coating, which simultaneously perform cutting of defective material and milling.

patching

Complete asphalt repair is not always carried out, often using a pitting technique, which consists of filling in the detected defects, cracks and potholes with a bitumen composition. It is used only if the damage to the canvas is not more than 15%.

Before starting the repair, prepare:

Markup. It is necessary to mark, in addition to defective places, a small part of the whole canvas. If several pits are in the same radius, then they will need to be painted with one contour.

Dismantling. After that, the damaged asphalt is removed, for example, using a jackhammer. In this case, it is advisable to use the cold milling method, since it can be used to obtain even walls.

Cleanup. At this stage, crumbs and debris are removed from the coating, and the processing of defective areas with a bitumen composition can begin.

Material rating:

  • Asphalts used are the most environmentally friendly, when compared with similar compositions of previous years;
  • The cost is quite expensive;
  • Can be used for almost any coating. In addition, it can also be used in the construction of buildings;
  • The new asphalt looks quite attractive from the outside but over time it starts to fade. You can restore its color by painting the surface with a special paint;
  • It is impossible to prepare asphalt at home;
  • Requires in fast work and use of assistants, because after cooling it is unusable.

When should cold and hot asphalt be used?

Cold laying of this material is mainly used for repairing coatings. The main thing at the same time is the high-quality compaction of the material. A big plus of cold asphalt is the possibility of using it at any time of the year. The necessary work can be done even in winter.

There are 2 types of cold asphalt:

  • summer. When laying, the air temperature is desirable in the range of +15 - +30 degrees;
  • off-season. When laying, the air temperature is desirable in the range of -5 - +15 degrees.

But this material is not suitable for overhaul or a new coating device. Here it is better to use hot asphalt.

A wide range of repair and construction works includes the use of asphalt granulate - asphalt crumb. According to its composition, it is a secondary raw material obtained from asphalt concrete in the process of reconstruction of old roads. The cutting of the surface takes place with the help of a road mill, and then the material is crushed. Obtaining a fine, medium or large fraction is carried out by sifting. After that, asphalt crumb is applied in the country , for arrangement of territories around private houses, offices and other.

Affordable cost and high quality of raw materials determines wide application asphalt crumb. The composition contains bitumen particles, which, when heated, demonstrate high adhesion of the material to other elements. Therefore, asphalt granulate is ideal for:

  • – roads with low load;
  • – temporary pavement;
  • – Arrangement of parking lots and technological sites;
  • – creation of tennis, basketball and other sports grounds;
  • – backfilling of potholes and pits;
  • – Creation of reliable roadsides.

In practice, laying takes a minimum of effort and does not require the involvement of expensive special equipment. For small roads, sidewalks, paths - this is an ideal solution for price and quality. In addition, asphalt crumb coating looks aesthetically pleasing and looks harmonious in any landscape design.

There are several methods for laying asphalt crumb. In the first case, the ground under the road device is leveled and compacted, then geotextiles, sand and gravel are laid. This whole “sandwich” is well compacted and the asphalt crumb is already laid on top, taking into account its future compaction of 10 cm.

If you are interested in how to lay asphalt chips with your own hands while saving time and money, the second option is suitable. In this case, after clearing and leveling the land, crumb is laid, and then bitumen is poured onto the required area. After that, asphalt granulate is applied again and only then the area is compacted with a roller.

At correct styling, the road from asphalt crumb will please with the following advantages:

  • – Wide range of applications.
  • – Affordable price compared to gravel, crushed stone and asphalt.
  • – Durability of service in suitable conditions.
  • - Ease of installation.
  • – Resistance to negative atmospheric factors.

When compared with other paving materials, the asphalt crumb machine will cost much less. However, before carrying out the work, it is necessary to calculate how much asphalt granulate will be needed for laying.

If you are interested in the device of asphalt crumb, then determining the amount of material required is not as difficult as it seems at first glance. The optimal crumb layer should be 10 cm, however, it is worth considering compacting the asphalt granulate with a roller, which shrinks the material by at least 10 cm. Thus, we get a coefficient of 0.2. You can determine how much asphalt chips you need using the following formula:

  • – S x 0.2;

where S is the area of the future backfill.

Example: it is necessary to cover 200 sq. meters. We multiply the area by 0.2 and get 40 m3. If the compaction of the crumb is carried out not by a roller, but by a vibrating plate or machine wheels, then the coefficient will be 1.5. You can also find out how much asphalt crumb is needed in this case using the formula - it turns out that for backfilling 200 sq. meters of the road or plot will require 30 m3.

As a rule, the density of asphalt crumb depends on the fraction - it can be small, medium and large. Therefore, depending on the composition of the material, 1 cube of asphalt granulate can weigh 1500-1900 kg. And if you need to purchase KAMAZ asphalt crumb, then approximately 12 cubic meters will fit in the car.

And, finally, about the cost of asphalt chips. The total price of the material depends on the fraction, composition, presence or absence of additional additives to achieve the strength of the coating. If delivery is required, the price includes transportation costs, including services for loading and unloading raw materials. You can find out the exact cost of asphalt granulate by contacting the managers of the MSK-Region company.
