The STAR air handling unit is a compact recuperative device designed to supply, clean and remove exhaust air in small spaces. Heating and humidification of air is carried out without additional expenses of the electric power. This happens due to a plate-type membrane-type heat exchanger, which extracts heat and moisture from the utilized air and transfers them to the incoming air from the street. Installation of the unit can be carried out directly in the served room and suspended ceiling.

Design

Standard units are equipped with supply and exhaust fans, supply and exhaust filters, plate heat exchanger and system automatic control with remote control remote control. The innovative type of heat exchanger allows to heat and humidify the supply air, while the special membrane of the heat exchanger transfers only water molecules from the exhaust air, leaving all impurities in it.
The fans of the units are equipped with high efficiency impellers with forward curved blades and asynchronous motors. Sealed ball bearings in the motors are maintenance-free and provide extended service life. Fan motors are protected by built-in thermal contacts with automatic restart at 125°C.
The unit has two fan speeds, the ability to control an external electric heater (supplied separately) and electronic heat exchanger frost protection.
If there is an extended network of air ducts, additional fans of the back-up air (supplied separately) are installed sequentially in the supply and (or) exhaust air ducts.
The unit is designed for mounting directly to round air ducts.

Extremely user-friendly devices from Electrolux, which are STAR EPVS series air heat exchangers, differ from other devices in their efficiency, quiet operation and high economy. They are used to utilize the latent and sensible heat of the air, that is, the supply and exhaust air receive almost the same temperature and moisture content. The recuperators use a special material that allows the supply air to be dried and cooled in the summer, and humidified and heated in the winter due to the exhaust air. The material used in recuperators is distinguished by its selective permeability to numerous gases. This feature of it gives water vapor the opportunity to freely pass through the walls of the heat exchanger, and pollutants (ammonia, carbon dioxide) to linger.

Basic Description

The supply and exhaust units presented in our catalog are designed for supplying, as well as cleaning and removing exhaust air to rooms with small area. This equipment allows you to heat and humidify the air without additional energy consumption due to the plate-type membrane type heat exchanger. Installation of air handling units is allowed both in the manned room and behind the false ceiling.

Standard equipment includes supply and exhaust fans, filters, plate heat exchanger, automatic control system with a remote control (RC).

The fans are equipped with high efficiency impellers with backward curved blades, asynchronous electric motors, built-in thermal protection by means of thermal contacts with automatic restart. Sealed ball bearings ensure a long service life for this type of air handling unit.

The Electrolux STAR EPVS air handling unit is designed to supply fresh air to the premises, purify the supplied air, and remove the exhaust air. All STAR EPVS air handling units are equipped with a membrane-type plate heat exchanger. The plate heat exchanger can significantly reduce the cost of electricity for heating and humidifying the supply air. It happens like this: Fresh air, passing through the heat exchanger, raises (or lowers) its temperature, exchanging heat and moisture with the exhaust air. Fresh and exhausted exhaust air do not have direct contact, do not mix, thus the incoming air remains uncontaminated. The special membrane of the heat exchanger passes only water molecules from the exhaust air, leaving all impurities. This type installations is ideal for creating a ventilation system for an apartment or country house.

The power of the heaters is calculated for maximum air flow rates. If the flow rate is less than the maximum, then the heater power is determined as follows:

N \u003d -0.33 × (T + 15) × L,

Where N is the heater power, kW

T - estimated minimum air temperature for this region, ° С

L – air consumption, m3/h

Electric heater connected to the appropriate terminals, through a magnetic starter (contactor). The unit controller gives a signal to turn on the heater at an outdoor temperature of -10°C. Until the specified temperature is reached, the supply air is heated by the heat exchanger. In the Electrolux STAR EPVS air handling units, a plate heat exchanger is used, the efficiency of which is from 85% (STAR EPVS 200) to 90% (in all other sizes).
Calculate what air temperature will be after the heat exchanger using the formula:

t=(t 1 -t 2 )*k+t 2

Where:
t - temperature after the heat exchanger,
t 1 - indoor temperature,
t 2 - supply air temperature to the heat exchanger (outdoor air temperature),
k - efficiency of the heat exchanger.

For example, in a ventilated room, the air temperature is 20°C, the outside air temperature is -5°C, the air ventilation system is built on the Electrolux STAR EPVS-350 air handling unit, the heat exchanger efficiency of which is 90% (max).
That. according to the formula, the air temperature after the heat exchanger will be equal to:

T=(20-(-5))*0.9+(-5)=17.5°C

This calculation is approximate, because the actual temperature will depend on many parameters and will be lower than the calculated one.

Electrolux STAR EPVS air handling units can be operated without a heater, but only up to an outdoor temperature of -15 °C. When the supply air temperature is below -15 °C, the air handling unit will switch to emergency mode and stop working for 15 minutes. If after the specified time the air temperature does not increase, the unit will remain in emergency mode.

One of the most important parameters of this series of air handling units with heat recovery is its high energy efficiency due to the transfer of thermal energy from the removed warm air supply cold.

The efficiency of modern membrane heat exchangers that are used in these units reaches 70%.

The use of Electrolux EPVS-1100 air handling units with heat recovery is especially important for our climate, when winter period year lasts 7-8 months a year.

According to the experience of our research and calculations, the payback period for air handling units with recuperation, on average, is 1.5-2 years of operation. When compared with equipment that heats the supply air with electricity.

High recovery efficiency is achieved by modern technology use of a membrane-type heat exchanger-recuperator with the possibility of transferring part of the heat with moisture through the surface of the recuperator.

However, recuperation alone is not enough for full heating, so it is necessary to install an auxiliary heater, although its power is already much less than what would be needed to heat the same volume of air without using recuperation.

Control

The management of this model of equipment is absolutely simple. Switching on / off and regulation of the necessary parameters is carried out using the control panel:
