There are situations when you need to find out the exact model of a video card or any other component. Not all the information you need can be found in the device manager or on the hardware itself. In this case, special programs come to the rescue, which help not only to determine the model of components, but also to obtain a lot of additional useful information. In this article, we will look at several representatives of such software.

Both advanced users and beginners will be able to use this program. It helps not only to get information about the state of the system and hardware, but also allows you to carry out some tuning and check the system with various tests.

Everest is distributed absolutely free of charge, does not take up much space on your hard drive, has a simple and intuitive interface. You can get general information right in one window, but more detailed data can be found in special sections and tabs.

AIDA32

This representative is one of the oldest and is considered the progenitor of Everest and AIDA64. The program has not been supported by developers for a long time, and updates are not released, but this does not prevent it from properly performing all its functions. With this utility, you can instantly get basic data about the condition of the PC and its components.

More detailed information can be found in separate windows, which are conveniently sorted and have their own icons. You don't need to pay anything for the program, and the Russian language is also present, which is good news.

AIDA64

This popular program is designed to help diagnose components and conduct performance tests. It contains all the best from Everest and AIDA32, improved and added several additional functions that are not available in most other similar software.

Of course, you will have to pay a little for such a set of functions, but this will only need to be done once, there are no subscriptions for a year or a month. If you cannot decide on a purchase, then a free trial version with a period of a month is available on the official website. For such a period of use, the user will definitely be able to draw a conclusion about the usefulness of the software.

HWMonitor

This utility does not have such a wide range of functions as the previous representatives, but it has something unique about it. Its main task is not to show the user all the detailed information about his components, but to allow him to monitor the state and temperatures of iron.

The voltage, loads and heating of a specific element are displayed. Everything is divided into segments to make it easier to navigate. The program can be downloaded absolutely free of charge from the official website, but there is no Russian version, but even without it, everything is intuitive.

Speccy

Perhaps one of the most extensive programs presented in this article in terms of its functionality. It combines a variety of information and ergonomic placement of all elements. Separately, I would like to touch upon the function of creating a system snapshot. In other software, it is also possible to save the results of tests or monitoring, but most often this is only the TXT format.

All the features of Speccy simply cannot be enumerated, there are really many of them, it is easier to download the program and view each tab yourself, we assure you that learning more and more new about your system is a very entertaining business.

CPU-Z

CPU-Z is a highly targeted software that is focused only on providing the user with data about the processor and its state, conducting various tests with it and showing information about the RAM. However, if you need to get just such information, then additional functions are simply not needed.

The developers of the program are the CPUID company, whose representatives will be described in this article. CPU-Z is available for free and does not require a lot of resources and hard disk space.

GPU-Z

Using this program, the user will be able to get the most detailed information about the installed graphics adapters. The interface is designed as compactly as possible, but at the same time all the necessary data fits on one window.

GPU-Z is perfect for those who want to know everything about their graphics chip. This software is distributed absolutely free of charge and supports the Russian language, however, not all parts are translated, but this is not a significant drawback.

System Spec

System Spec - developed by one person, freely distributed, but there have been no updates for quite a long time. This program does not require installation after downloading to your computer, you can use it immediately after downloading. It provides a large amount of useful information not only about the hardware, but also about the state of the system as a whole.

PC Wizard

Now this program is not supported by the developers, therefore, no updates are released. However, the latest version can be used comfortably. The PC Wizard allows you to find out detailed information about the components, track their condition and run several performance tests.

The interface is designed quite simply and clearly, and the presence of the Russian language helps to quickly understand all the functions of the program. You can download and use it absolutely free.

SiSoftware Sandra

SiSoftware Sandra is distributed for a fee, but for its money it provides the user with a wide range of functions and capabilities. Unique in this program is that you can connect to a computer remotely, you just need to have access for this. In addition, it is possible to connect to servers or just to a local computer.

This software allows you to monitor the state of the system as a whole, to find out detailed information about the hardware. You can also find sections with installed programs, various files and drivers. All this can be edited. The download of the latest version in Russian is available on the official website.

BatteryInfoView

A highly targeted utility, the purpose of which is to display data about the installed battery and monitor its condition. Unfortunately, she can't do anything else, but she completely fulfills her task. Flexible configuration and a number of additional functionality is available.

All detailed information is opened with one click, and the Russian language allows you to master the work of the software even faster. You can download BatteryInfoView from the official website for free, there is also a crack with installation instructions.

This is not a complete list of all programs that provide information about PC components, but during testing they showed themselves quite well, and even a few of them will be quite enough to get all possible detailed information not only about components, but also about the operating system.

The free utility AIDA32 has long been the best program for collecting information about the system, and had no worthy analogues. She provided complete information on almost every hardware and software. It also allowed checking the network environment and performing memory performance tests.

However, in March 2004, the developer announced that the development of AIDA32 would be frozen and the main development would be moved to another company. Where later the development of AIDA32 was continued, but already as a commercial product called Everest. When Everest was acquired by FinalWare in 2010, development of the Everest product was discontinued. Nevertheless, the product itself continued to exist, but under the name AIDA64, which still exists today. Unfortunately, this product has only trial versions.

Review of free programs for collecting information about the computer

AIDA32 aka Everest Home for collecting information about the computer

However, you can still find the old version. And there is still a free version of Everest called. The older version of AIDA32 performs better at collecting environmental data on the network, while Everest covers more modern hardware. So even though they are essentially the same product, you can use both products at once to get the maximum effect.

Belarc Advisor program analogue of AIDA32 for collecting information about the system

If you need to take an inventory of the hardware of an individual computer, then this will come in handy. This program is free for non-commercial use. Of course, in terms of its coverage it is inferior to AIDA32, but it has one important advantage. It is actively developing. So the time will come when the program will overtake AIDA32.

As a child, we asked each other: "What is your Pentium?" Most answered that they had a Pentium IV computer, but there were always children who wanted to be the best and already owned a Pentium V, which was never released by Intel.

But let's not condemn them. Then none of us had any idea how to find out the technical characteristics of our computer. We used the information received from the parents or the seller during the purchase. Now you can also get by with these authoritative sources of information, but when it comes to technical specifications, it is better to look at them yourself.

How to find out the characteristics of your computer

Boot information

When you turn on the computer, a black screen with some icons appears for a moment. On it you can see which buttons to press to enter the BIOS, launch the Boot Menu.

There are very few PC technical parameters here. The screen fades too quickly to be overwritten, so perfect photographic memory is essential. Although they say that if you press the Pause Break key, the download will freeze. To make it "die" back, press Esc.

Properties of the system

The most that you can find out from the boot screen is the BIOS version and the processor model. This is not enough to say that you know the characteristics of your computer. Therefore, after Windows boots up, delay starting the browser. First look at the system properties:

There is already much more interesting information here. As you can see, I have a "seven", and the "hardware" is not fresh. If it were 2008, my computer would be a beast machine, and in 2016 it looks more like a quiet office clerk: Word, Excel, Internet.

If the information that you found in the properties is not enough, then use another Windows tool called "System Information".

Here already the eyes run up a little from the abundance of characteristics. CPU, motherboard, BIOS version, graphics card, RAM size, paging file size, even the time zone that doesn't matter anymore. If you want to know even more about the motherboard, then see a separate article on how on a computer. After reading this data, no one dares to accuse you of not knowing the technical parameters of your PC.

You can use other Windows tools as well: for example, Device Manager or the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, which I already mentioned when I told you how to find out what is on your computer. These system applications also display a lot of information about the system and accessories, so you will know exactly "which Pentium you have".

Monitoring programs

Lacking features? Want to know how much RAM # in CAS # (tRCD) latency is in RAM, or does the CPU support parallelization (we bet you couldn't read this word the first time either)? Then forget about the uninformative Windows tools and use special software for monitoring your PC.

The first program that comes to my mind when I hear the word "monitoring" in relation to computer hardware is Speccy. I talk about it so often that Piriform already has to pay for advertising. But this is a free utility, so I can't wait for a reward.

Launch Speccy and wait for the program to get acquainted with the PC components. When the hardware is presented, Speccy will generously "pour" all the information it receives, including the temperature of the processor, motherboard, video card and storage. If there is little general information, take a walk through the tabs. You will have to google half of the values, but you will learn a lot about your computer.

Speccy isn't alone. There is also the AIDA64 program, which also tells everything about the computer, and utilities for components - GPU-Z for a video card, CPU-Z for a processor, motherboard, RAM, etc. AIDA64 used to be called Everest and it really is the pinnacle of monitoring.

One problem is that the program is paid, it only works for a month in demo access. But it shows even more information than Speccy, although the product from Piriform is also for real computer geeks.

It was always interesting for me to dig into the characteristics of my computer, even those in which I did not understand anything. It was interesting to test, "drive the computer". What for? The goals can be different: to compare the components of the computer with the original list, to download the necessary drivers, or to sell the computer. In this article, I'll walk you through three easy ways.

System Information Utility

The built-in utility is called System Information. Go to the menu "Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information", or just write in the search bar of the Start menu: "information" and also run the program.

Here you can find out only basic information about the hardware, such as the motherboard model, processor type, BIOS version, amount of RAM and some others. If you walk along the "tree", you can find even more subtle characteristics of the computer.

For example, in the "Components" section there is information about the CD / DVD drive, sound card, which video card is installed ("Display"). But in general, this tool is very beloved and is intended for technical specialists to debug a computer. I recommend using it if you don't have anything better at hand.

Without detailed characteristics, but much more convenient, the list of devices can be viewed in "". To open it just press the combination "Win + Pause". In Windows XP, it will open immediately, and in Windows 7/10, the "System" window will first open, in which you can immediately see the installed and how much RAM. From here we launch the device manager.

Or open it from the control panel. Here you can already see what devices are installed in the computer: sound chip, video card, network card, hard disk model, optical drive, monitor and others.

DirectX Diag software

Another standard program is the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. It is mainly used for testing audio and video systems. To start it, you need to press the "Win + R" buttons and write in the line:

It also contains the main characteristics: model of laptop or computer motherboard, video card, sound card, keyboard and mouse.

The described methods are suitable when you need to quickly find out general information about the computer, but if you need more detailed information, then you cannot do without additional programs. One of my favorite programs is AIDA64, she is.

Very simple. Moreover, there are many ways to view the technical parameters of a PC or laptop. First, Windows 7, 8, and 10 have 4 built-in tools that you can use to find out the properties of your computer. Secondly, there are special programs that show absolutely all information about a PC or laptop. Therefore, below we will consider the simplest ways with which you can find out what kind of video card you have, RAM, processor, etc.

Why is this needed? Most often, you need to know the characteristics of your laptop or PC to:

  • installation of games (to understand whether they are suitable in your case or not);
  • updating drivers for the video card (you need to know its model);
  • buying new RAM (it is recommended to set the same bar that you already have);
  • sales of an old PC or laptop (to provide the buyer with all the information he needs).

You can view the properties of a computer without special programs and utilities. Fortunately, Windows itself has many simple tools for this. Let's start with them.

The methods described below are shown on the example of Windows 7. But you can also use them in Windows 8 and 10.

System information

As you can see, the main characteristics are indicated in these two tabs. If you need other parameters, look for them in the remaining sections.

Control Panel

The second method is also very simple. To find the specifications on a computer in Windows 7, go to Start - Control Panel - System (or right-click on the "My Computer" shortcut and go to "Properties").

A new window will appear, which will indicate your processor, the amount of installed RAM, the version and type of Windows. However, the information is again incomplete.

Device Manager

Another way to view the properties of a computer on Windows 7 is through the Device Manager. To open it, go to Start - Control Panel - Device Manager.

The next window will appear, where you can view the required technical parameters. For example, a processor, video adapter (this is the name of a video card), etc.

DirectX Diagnostic Tool

And the last way to see the properties of a laptop or PC with built-in Windows tools:

All of these methods have one common drawback - they show too little information about the PC. Plus, the parameters are scattered across different tabs (you have to look for them).

Therefore, below are 3 more useful utilities with which you can view the system characteristics of your computer or laptop.

Programs for viewing PC parameters

I note right away that such utilities work on all operating systems - Windows 7, 8, 10, and even XP. In addition, they do not care what brand of laptop you have: Asus, Acer, Samsung, Dell, HP Pavilion, Lenovo, etc. In a word, these programs are universal. Therefore, you can safely use them on any computer or laptop.

Piliform Speccy

Speccy is one of the best programs for viewing PC specifications. After all, she:

  • free (there is a portable version);
  • Supports various computers, laptops and netbooks;
  • completely in Russian.

And most importantly, this utility shows all the technical characteristics of the PC:

  • model, frequency, temperature of the processor;
  • OS version;
  • the amount and frequency of RAM;
  • complete information about the motherboard;
  • video card model;
  • monitor resolution;
  • full name of the hard disk and its size.

And all this in one tab. And if necessary, you can get more detailed information about the components by opening the desired section in the left menu.

AIDA64 Extreme

Another great program with which you can view the characteristics of a laptop or computer. It is paid, but there is a 30-day trial period (for most cases, this period is sufficient). Plus there is a portable version (no installation required).

Shows absolutely all PC parameters down to the smallest detail. For example, if you want to buy additional RAM, then in AIDA64 you can find out everything about it: full name, frequency, etc. Similar information is displayed on the processor, video card, monitor.

By the way, among other things, this program also shows the temperature of the components (in the "Sensors" tab). This is very useful when your PC or laptop suddenly starts to glitch badly, and you need to check if the processor or video card is warming up.

PC Wizard

And the last program on this list, with which you can analyze the characteristics of a computer in Windows 10, 8, 7 - PC Wizard. In terms of functionality, it is one of the most powerful and is on a par with the paid AIDA64. It also shows absolutely all system characteristics about your PC.

The only negative is that he thinks too long. The program slows down a little, responds slowly to user action (sometimes you have to wait 10 seconds), and this is annoying. Although if it is rarely used, then this drawback does not play any role.
