Design - the thing is important absolutely for any customer. Millions of styles and color solutions are scrolled in his head literally in a matter of days. And now comes the moment to complete the perfect picture of your cozy home, it remains only to order a decent staircase. But the trouble is a metal gloss of the frame is badly combined with the rest of the dwelling. However, there is a solution - paint the ladder!

Fortunately, the modern market of paints and varnishes is really huge, which makes it easy to choose ideal both from the point of view of the company and from the budget. It is also very important that you can choose not only the desired color, but also the special characteristics of the paint: whether it is a hardness of the coating or resistance to moisture and fading in the sun. There are several options:

Hammer paint
Hammer paint is great for finishing furniture, designs (including stairs) and special equipment. Interestingly and important for a good appearance is that when applied to the surface, its structure resembles a hand forging. In a solid picture, this gives the volume of railings and walls.

Do not pay attention to the name, the paint has nothing to do with the tool, with the exception of the picture on the bank. It is used when there is a need to paint metal structures. Hammer paint has high anti-corrosion characteristics. This feature allows you to apply it directly to the paint without additional processing or priming. However, this does not mean that it is used only for metal: the tree is perfectly combined with it. It is also important that hammer paint has good indicators of resistance from the threats of the external environment. Therefore, even on the street, she will show himself perfectly.

Oil paint
Oil paints are no less popular when painting metal stairs and fences. They not only give a saturated color, but also perfectly protect against moisture, which is necessary for metal. It is also unusually important that the color range of this kind of paint is impressive. Find the desired shade will be easier than simple. Even the most arrogant designers will be happy.

Rates of painting stairs can vary fundamentally. You can buy an inexpensive paint that will be quite well to perform your function, and you can spend and not worry about quality. Budget options will cost approximately a few hundred rubles, the expensive will rise several thousand. Choose the option you like and refer to us! After all, the "vertical" can make a staircase on a metal frame, and immediately paint it. Write, call!

Forging for metal at all times was considered severe and revered art. It is the art, since one thing is to simply welcome two glands to each other, and quite another to make something beautiful and pleasing eyes.

But to create a real masterpiece, the skills of one blacksmith little, the finished product is still needed to paint, and how best to do it is, we will talk in this article.

Features of painting forging

Someone can say that the coloration of the forged product is no different from painting, for example, a wooden table top, but it is far from that. First, it is certainly special paints, which will be discussed slightly below. And secondly, the way to paint, especially if there was a need to perform painting work with your own hands, but there are no skills in this matter.

Interestingly, with an incorrect approach, even the most expensive and high-quality paint will be powerless to protect the product from corrosion.

If we talk about painting methods, they can be the most diverse:

  • Brush.
  • The pulverizer (see pick up a paint sprayer).
  • Tampon.
  • Fake.

Important! Working with the paintopult, it should be remembered that the thickness of the paint consistency, the harder it is to spray it and the more powerful pressure must be exhibited on the compressor.

But it should always be remembered for complex places that are always in writhing products. For example, it may be welding locations, the fact is that during the forging process, the metal is exposed to strong heating and weakens himself, and the welding is even more burning the protective film, which is always formed on the surface.

It is in the places of welding, corrosion begins first of all, and already from there diverge throughout the product. Another important nuance, which should be remembered is a stripping of the product, no, not from possible rust, since it safely copes the paint for forged products three in one, and to clean the metal from Okalin and stratifying metal.

Stripped and prepared for painting the product

The fact is that at the time of the calcination, the inhomogeneous parts of the metal begin to be peeling, during a fluid inspection it can not be noticed, but it is enough to carry out a metal brush along the finished product, as the particles resembling scams immediately begin.

Cleaning a metal brush must be carried out in the event that the product has already been previously painted, and now you just need to update the coating. The paint for metal has a very high adhesion with a painted surface, but it can get dried from the old coating.

Paints for forging

Game on color contrast, ideally looks in wrought gates

If with a question how to paint forged products yourself, everything is more or less clear, then here are like paints, this question is much more complicated and extensive. If you do not give proper attention to him, then it will have to renew the product every year, especially if it is located on the street.

Today, the paints of specialized metal on metal (see species of paints on metal: what to choose), and each of them has its own unique set of qualities, and such a variety is only even more confused by an inexperienced person. We will not dwell on the whole range presented in modern building stores.

And we will talk only about the most popular and as a consequence of quality materials designed specifically for metal surfaces, taking into account the fact that the product will be operated on the street, and constantly undergo negative impact.

Hammer paint

Hammer paint, or paint with a hammer effect (see paint with a hammer effect: the features of use) is named so for the similarity of the coating with the crystal from the blows of the metal. The embossed surface of the paint perfectly hides all the shallow flaws and flaws, which inevitably happen on a wrought product, especially if we are talking about a real handmade forging, and not about stamping on machines. Instructions for applying hammer paint involves working with any convenient tool.

It can be:

  • Kraspopult.
  • Roller
  • Brush.
  • Tampon.

It all depends on personal skills and preferences, the quality of the coating from this does not suffer at all.

The stairs are very sensitive to negative environmental impacts. And even if they are located inside the premises, they are still regularly exposed to differences in the levels of humidity and temperatures, besides, the owners usually use detergents that also have their negative impact on them. Therefore, in order to extend the life of the structure, it is necessary to protect its surface with a reliable coating.

The most reliable and proven protection method is painting. Moreover, it needs every staircase, regardless of the material from which it is made, be it metal, wood or concrete, as they all have their weak parties.

However, so that the painting really coped with the tasks set in front of it, it is necessary to correctly choose its type in each case, since there is a large assortment of coatings on the market and they all differ in their properties. This article is dedicated to this article.

Basic paint requirements

When choosing paint, first of all, attention should be paid to the material from which the staircase is made under what conditions it is operated which requirements are presented to the coating, and what kind of design you want to see the design ultimately.

As a rule, the coating for the staircase must have the following properties:

  • Good adhesion with the base;
  • Water resistance;
  • Resistance to temperature drops;
  • Wear resistance;
  • Resistance of radiation;
  • If the design is located on the street, then frost resistance is also important;
  • Anticorrosion properties (for metal stairs).

In addition, other requirements are sometimes presented to the paints, for example, flame retardant properties are sometimes important. In this case, specialized formulations are used, such as fire retardant paints in metal polystyl.

Types of colors

So, for painting stairs today, as a rule, the following types of LCP are used:

  • Alkyd enamels;
  • Water-dispersion acrylic;
  • Polyurethane;
  • Oil;
  • Transparent varnishes.

Of course, there are other types of painting compositions, however, the above-mentioned views are recently the most popular. Now let's consider the features of these coatings.

Alkyd enamel

This type of dyes is one of the most universal. Painting the stairs with their own hands alkyd enamels can be performed, regardless of the type of material from which the design is made.

In addition, the coating also has other some advantages, in particular, enamel data differ in their decorative properties.

These compositions are based on an alkyd varnish, which add various solvents, fillers and coloring pigments. The filler is usually granite or marble crumb, as well as quartz sand. It should be noted that the filler is much smaller than ordinary sand.

Sometimes manufacturers are added to the paint additional substances that give it a one or another property. For example, antiseptics can be included to protect wood from the formation of fungus and rotting.

In addition to the fact that these coatings comply with all the above requirements, they also differ in the following properties:

  • Elasticity;
  • Durability;
  • High drying speed;
  • Do not crack;
  • Do not sit down.

Thus, alkyd enamels are excellent protection for metal, wooden or concrete surfaces. Moreover, the painting of the staircase can be performed both indoors and outside.

The only disadvantage of the coating is a strong toxic smell, which gradually decreases with paint drying.

Tip!
You can use White Spirit to dilute thickened alkyd enamels.

Acrylic paints

Water-dispersion acrylic paints recently enjoy the greatest popularity. Their main advantage is environmental friendliness. The composition absolutely does not smell, since conventional water is used as a solvent, and acrylic resins are the binding link.

Thanks to this, before painting the staircase in the house, your loved ones do not even have to leave the dwelling.

In addition, acrylic compositions have other advantages:

  • Excellent covering ability.
  • Quickly dry - the process of frosting lasts as much as water evaporates.
  • After the composition is frozen, a plastic coating is formed on the surface.
  • It is originally white, which allows you to achieve any shade with the addition of the addition of the colors.
  • The composition does not fade and does not fade in the sun.
  • It has good moisture resistance, resistant to temperature drops and frost resistance, due to which it can be used for external stairs.
  • Acrylic paint can be painted with their own metal, concrete or wooden staircase.

Note!
Before buying acrylic paint, it is necessary to clarify its application, since these compositions are usually narrow.
This information contains an instruction that is available on the package.

Polyurethane coatings

Polyurethane coatings are also very popular, which can be treated with both wooden and metal surfaces. Due to their good resistance to mechanical loads, painting stair marches is usually carried out by these compositions.

When paint drying, the basis of which there are polyols and hardeners, a durable coating is formed on the painted surface, which has high resistance to atmospheric influences. Due to this, polyurethane formulations can be used for external work.

Among other advantages of the coating, the following points can be distinguished:

  • Resistance to the effects of mineral and organic oils, acids, gasoline and oxidizing agents.
  • Excellent adhesion based on.
  • After drying, wear-resistant, elastic, and at the same time solid film is formed on the surface.
  • The composition is not toxic.
  • Does not fade in the sun.
  • It has good frost resistance.

Therefore, if the staircase will have high patency, you can stop your choice on polyurethane paints.

Tip!
To cover the outer metal stairs, the electrically conductive paint Zinga is an excellent option.
It provides a high level of corrosion protection and is distinguished by a long service life.

Oil paints

This type of paints is used more and less often, since it gradually crowded out of the market more "advanced" compositions that we have considered above. But, despite this, and now you can find the use of oil paint. For example, the painting of the staircase from pine can be made in such a composition, especially if you are not sure that the wood is well dried.

This is due to the fact that the oil paint and the resin, which is distinguished by coniferous wood, have almost the same composition, due to which the coating will well hold on, unlike many other paints. In addition, oil paint can be covered with outdoor, metal structure.

True, before painting the metal staircase, it needs to be treated with primer so that in the near future it is not encountered with the appearance of corrosion. Another advantage of these paints is the low price. They are much more affordable than the above.

Transparent varnishes

Finally, I must say that when processing wooden stairs, transparent varnishes are very popular. Like paints, they can have different characteristics to be paid attention to when buying. In addition, some of them contain pigments, which allows you to give the surface a certain shade and emphasize the texture of the wood.

As a rule, such coatings are used for internal work to preserve the natural type of stairs.

Output

To date, there is a large selection of paints, which allows you to choose the composition in accordance with all the requirements that are covered. Therefore, before making a choice, we need to well consider the conditions of operation of the ladder.

The right choice of paint will significantly extend the life of not only finishes, but also the design itself. Additional information on this topic can be obtained from the video in this article.

The price of staining staircases is sometimes very high, so many are solved to carry out this procedure with their own hands. The high cost of such works is explained by the serious technological requirements that need to be clearly observed during painting.

In this case, the result will be durable.

Just once enough to acquire an indisputable experience in this area. And over time, when the staircase requires its coverage, fulfill these works for you will not be difficult. In addition, the process of selecting the desired shade of paint and varnish is very exciting and will not take you a lot of time and effort.

On wooden and metal stairs have a negative impact external factors.

If this impact is long, the staircase may be quite quickly able to come into disrepair:

  • Permanent walking on the steps and holding a person for handrails products affects the state of these design elements: the steps are erased and dirty, and scratches and stains appear on the handrails.

Note!
Staircases should be covered with finishing coating especially carefully.
From how you paint the stairs, it will depend on its use without restoration work.

  • It is also worth considering that even the design placed in the house is subjected to drops of humidity and temperature, which cannot but affect some time at its condition. For example, direct sunlights are capable of overpowering the stairs, so these items of the product are required to protect against drying.

Choose high-quality coverage

If you think about painting the stairs in the house, then it will not be superfluous.

An important point when choosing a staircase is:

  • the tree of wood from which it was designed;
  • timber color;
  • features of the project product.

For example, pine can be separated by resin, which significantly worsen the adhesiveness of the material with paint and varnish coating. This does not happen to larchs.

Also, the complexity of staining of the needle is that it absorbs the liquid part of the paint coating is quite inhomogeneously. Therefore, the instruction on the application of paints and varnishes to such a surface states that it is necessary to apply at least 2-3 layers.

Paint

Choosing, how to paint a metal staircase or wood product, you need to try to choose such a shade of paint to as much as possible to the natural type of construction.

After you decide on color paint, you can move to the selection of its type:

  1. If the staircase is located in the house, and you think the better to paint the stairs in the house, it is better to choose an oil paint made on an artificial olive. Indeed, in this case, negative factors affecting the product is much smaller, whether it is located on the street;
  2. In the case of an outer design, paint will be needed solely on the Olife of natural origin.

Tip!
Pigmented finishing materials are a good option.
They are able to hide the shortcomings of the design, which manifested themselves in the process of its assembly.

Do not forget before applying such a coating, the ladder defects can be putty. However, at the same time, the staff can hide some advantages of the tree structure.

Experts advise to acquire alkyd paint Tikkurila Empire, because it can cover the surface with a brush without unnecessary difficulties. High quality has both paint for wooden products (stairs, including brands of Bethlarux and Pesto. They fall exactly and do not leave the lifettes.

For example, the urethane-alkyd paint Betholux fits already painted surfaces, but it does not differ in high wear resistance at constant use, therefore it is not used in crowded rooms. And the alkyd paint Pesto is of greater durability, so it is used even in the raw rooms that you often need to wash (the example is children).

Varnish

When looking for an answer to the question than to paint the staircase, experts will answer: "Colorless varnish!". And indeed, it is good because it does not mask, but on the contrary, it highlights the wood texture.

It is also characteristic of almost instant drying and ease of use.

Varnishes can be manufactured with the addition of alcohol or nitrocellulose;

  1. The first option is a resin dissolved in a solvent of organic origin. It is used only in the case when the staircase is located in the house, because when the coating is frozen, there is not enough frost and moisture-resistant film;
  2. If necessary, it is necessary to paint the design under the open air, you will need to use a nitrocellulosic coating. It contains substances such as colloxylin and plasticizers that can significantly strengthen the coating.

The most qualitative are the brands of paintwork materials Parade and Trae Lyx.

The products of the German manufacturer Parade is characterized by:

  • special resistance to wear;
  • ease of use;
  • ability to dry instantly;
  • she does not have an unpleasant smell, which is often found from products from other manufacturers.

The solid part of their composition is 35%, which causes their use for staining the stair structures of public buildings.

This material has a number of benefits:

  • babeless;
  • smoothly falls into the stained surface;
  • does not change the degree of his shine.

However, he has one substantial minus: to finally dry by such a coverage requires a fairly long time. Use the staircase after staining with such a means will really be in a week.

Polish

How to paint the staircase in the house so that it looks complete? For this, after staining, the product is covered with politics. Then it sparkles and overflows in the sun.

The color of the material must match the color of the tree, and not dow it. And the coating is applied with a brush or veosh, after reading the surface.

Enamel

In order for the lifting design to become an unusual accent in the whole interior, think about how to decorate the staircase in the house. To do this, you can use enamel. This material is able to give the staircase necessary shade, and at the same time, protect the product from destroying factors.

Enamel is a gel-like substance - a mixture of colorless varnish and pigment, which is sprayed over the surface with an aerosol. Before use, the agent is cooled well by shaking, and it turns into a liquid.

Experts argue that the Emal of the SIRCA of Italian production is characterized by excellent properties. Swedish products of the Synteko brand has good quality. It is most environmentally friendly due to the fact that the manufacturer does not use NMP polymers, especially harmful to human health and domestic animals.

Impact

Impregnations by type of veneer or pinoteks have an antiseptic and fire-repellent effect. On top of this means you can apply a layer of any finish varnish.

Staining technology

Staining the stairs produced in several stages:

  1. Preparatory. To begin with, the surface will be needed to be aligned by spiteling and grinding. After that, it is necessary to apply a solution of the primer twice;

  1. Staining. The process of painting the stairs occurs in 2-3 layers. Moreover, the new layer of paint is applied along the fibers of the tree.

And it can be done solely when the previous layer is dry, which should be applied across wooden fibers;

  1. Opening with varnish. A tree is applied to the wood with a sprayer when you need to paint the wide parts of the stairs, and with a thin brush for narrow staircases.

Pre-surface is cleaned and polished. If you have any visible defects, you can use the putty in the color of the tree. (See also Article: Choosing paintwork materials and technology)

Output

We told the instructions on painting the stairs and about the materials that can be used. We hope that this information will be useful for you, and you can independently choose a suitable paint and make painting with your own hands. In the video presented in this article, you will find additional information on this topic.

The staircase in the house is an important part, especially if the building consists of several levels. With it, you can not only climb the next floor. It should become a unique element of the interior. Therefore, to know how to paint the staircase, it is necessary to each owner of a two- or three-story private house.

To give the stairs of the completed species, several types of paint and varnish coatings are used. These are varnishes, impregnation and paint actually. The first emphasize the structure of the tree (toning) or fix the result (transparent), the second also emphasize the beauty of the wood pattern, but need additional consolidation. Paints allow them to paint the staircase as a soul.

Staining make not only aesthetic purposes. On the floor most often used a pinned board of pine. Despite its strength, no open tree is extended 5 times faster. This is due to the fact that the pores are clogged with dust and grains, which eventually destroy the structure of the flooring. Take the staircase from pine or any other tree with varnish or paint with your own hands, you extend her service life.

Morilka

Morilka is one of the cheapest stair coverage makeup. Impregnation is different colors. It is designed to protect wood and give it some shade. But it is better not to cover the staircase only by the verse - after drying, you should use varnish.

The primer is made to use before applying a varnish or paint, since it improves the adhesion with wood and makes the structure of the tree more homogeneous. If the primer is a little tint, then you can emphasize the characteristic woody pattern. Also in the primer contains substances that do not give a tree to rot.

Transparent / Toning Wooden Varnish

Laco covers steps, bales and railing. The colorless composition does not hide the texture of the tree. It is very important that grinding of all elements of the stairs was performed at the highest level. Transparent varnishes are several types:

  1. Latex. Non-toxic, safe for humans and animal material. When applied to the tree, it forms thin, durable, water-resistant layer. It has the properties of the antiseptic - protects the tree from mold, rot. Used both indoors and outdoor work.
  2. Water based or acrylate. It does not have an unpleasant odor, non-toxic, forms a sufficiently strong coating, resistant to mechanical damage, prevents aging of the tree.
  3. On synthetic resins. Such varnishes will quickly dry, resistant to aggressive media (alkalis, acids), are used only for internal works. Do not use varnishes on synthetic resins for staining steps. For Balyasin and railing they will fit.
  4. Yacht. There are different species, depending on the basis - alkyd and its varieties (Uretan-alkyd, alkyd-urethane) and acrylate. Toxic, so applying it inside the residential premises, put on the respirator, otherwise the probability is poisoned amounts to 99%.

Ladder Cover Paste

Pasta is considered an unconventional type of coating. It consists of linseed oil and beeswax. The hardness of the tree depends on which the consistency of the paste. If the tree is solid, then linen oil should be four times more than wax. For soft breeds, two parts of the oil on the wax are taken. The paste can be prepared independently or buy in the store.

Surface treatment is pretty simple: the paste is simply rubbed, for this you need to use natural fabric without a pile - from this surface of the stairs will be a little matte, with a silky glitter.

What to pay attention to

The criteria for choosing a certain type of LKM for the wooden staircase are as follows:

  1. Load on the floor. If the staircase on the second / third floor is used often, it means that wear-resistant coating are selected.
  2. Wood breed. Pine floor can and need to paint, larch boards have a beautiful drawing, so it is better to choose a colorless or tinted varnish.
  3. The presence of ventilation. The staircase, as a rule, is located near the entrance zone, it means that there should be no problems with ventilating problems. Therefore, you can choose any LCM.
  4. Cost. The issue of saving is especially important if a lot of funds spent on repair or construction of the house. In this case, you can choose LKM for the ladder cheaper, but not to the detriment of the quality of the finished coating.

Staining technology

Painting of a wooden staircase takes place in 2 stages. This is the preparation of the foundation and, directly, opening the lacquer or paint rail, baluster, steps. The first stage is very important, it is impossible to do without it if you want to get a beautiful and smooth staircase.

Preparation of the foundation

The solution will require a solution for, putting on wood or alternative methods of sealing slots (wooden chips, wood dust, mixed with colorless varnish), primer-antiseptic, iron brush, spatula, sandpaper - 80, 100, 120, 180 - 220, 120, 180 - 220, 240 - 320 and zero.

The technology of preparing the foundation with your own hands is simple:

  1. Remove trash on the stairs and wash it with water. Then rain full drying.
  2. Treat the steps to the agent to remove the old paint. With a spatula, remove the swollen coating. What did not rose, join the iron brush.
  3. Clean the steps, balusters and railing by sandpaper, and better two - first 80s, then 100 cow, remove the dust with the brush, the steps are additionally spent.
  4. Get the slot. Spaklyka will last long if the staircase is actively used. Try to close the gap with a wooden chip. Pick up a piece in the size of the hole, lubricate the PVA glue and put into place. Another way to seal the gaps: Mix the wood dust with a colorless varnish, the resulting composition of the gaps and let it dry.
  5. Once again, we walk out, now 120-ki, remove the dust and complete the operation of the zero. Ideally and steps, and balusters, and the railing should be smooth "like an egg."
  6. Treat the staircase with a primer-antiseptic. Use for this roller. Watch that the makeup fell into all the excavations and decorations (if any).
  7. Wait for the primer drying.

Now you can proceed to the final stage.

Paint coating

This is a responsible moment. The appearance of the stairs and how harmoniously it will fit into the interior of the house, depending on the quality of the coating. It will take paint and brush / roller. You can use the paintopult (it is significantly more expensive than the usual tools for applying the LKM).

Collecting paint technology with your own hands:

  1. Open the jar. With a long, durable wooden stick, mix the paint thoroughly. It should not have any lumps.
  2. If the composition is excessively thick, dilute it with solvent.
  3. Dry the brush or roller in the paint. Start staining. All movements should be along the fibers. After the primer, the paint should not be absorbed too quickly. If noted that the composition goes into a tree as a sponge, paint the entire staircase and wait for the first layer to dry.
  4. Apply the paint reuse. Especially attention is paid to the joints of the Balyasina / Paul, Balyasitsa / Railings, as well as various recesses and strokes (if there are curly elements on the stairs).

Tip! After drying the paint, we open the staircase with a colorless varnish. This will increase the strength of the coating. As an option - paint only the steps, and the balusters and the railing, open with varnish.

Laco coating

Preparatory work before such a finish is somewhat different. Grinding is carried out only once before the first opening. This is due to the fact that the lacquer will inevitably raise all the veins on the surface. The interlayer grinding will be required (stacker 180 - 220), and for the first layer it is better to use a special primer varnish.

Note. After stripping the primer varnish, the staircase always represents a pathetic sight. It looks an order of magnitude worse than after removing the old paint. Do not be afraid. The second layer of varnish, laid on the properly prepared surface, will make its job.

Painting the stairs is carried out in steps:

  1. Prepare a colorless varnish (if it is a two-component, interface it with your own hands according to the instructions).
  2. Dry velor roller in varnish.
  3. Take a coating by conducting a roller along the tree fibers.
  4. Let the layer dry. This is about 3 hours.
  5. Make another interlayer grinding. Use fine sandpaper (240 - 320).
  6. Apply the second layer of varnish. The third and more layers are applied only after complete drying of the previous one.

If you do not like the natural color of pine, larch or other wood, use the staircase to make the staircase darker. You can apply oil lacquer based on the desired shade. What is better to solve you.

The dying period of the stairs depends on the number of layers of varnish. After a day, you can go through it in socks or knitted home slippers without rigid soles. On average, the coating is gaining working strength after 7 - 10 days. To put the ladder in order with your own hands and do not spoil its appearance, it is necessary to have minimal skills to work with paints and varnishes. Act exactly according to the instructions, and then the result will correspond to expectations.
