Such slate is laid on roof slopes, since it drains water well due to the presence of gutters. Manufacturers strongly recommend laying it, provided that the slope of the roof is from 12 degrees.   2. Flat. Compared to wave material, it lacks a characteristic relief. Also, the dimensions of the flat slate are different. Flat slate is made of asbestos cement in the form of a square or rectangle.   3. 7-wave. The dimensions and weight of the slate sheet are as follows: 850x1750 centimeters and 23 kilograms with a thickness of 5.8 millimeters. Due to the small area of ​​this 7-wave traditional coating and light weight, it is often used in private small-sized housing construction.
  4. 8-wave. The sheet parameters of this type of slate are 1130x1750 centimeters, and the thickness is 5.2 and 5.8 millimeters. Depending on the thickness, the weight of the slate is 23-32 kilograms. Due to its impressive dimensions, it is used in the industrial sector.

Slate is a durable coating - it is operated for at least 20-30 years, it is not combustible and can withstand temperatures from -50 to +80 degrees. The disadvantage of this material is the splitting of the sheet as a result of a point impact. This feature should be taken into account when transporting, laying and storing asbestos-cement products.

Not all manufacturers adhere to GOST, so the strength index of a particular product may depend not only on the thickness, but also on such parameters as the size of asbestos fibers, the fineness of cement grinding, and the density of the finished material.

Two types of asbestos-cement roofing are produced - a flat and wavy sheet with a number of ridges from five to eight. Wavy slate is divided into three types:

  1. VO - a sheet of a standard profile, rectangular shape 1120x680 mm;
  2. VU - reinforced, designed for use in the construction of industrial facilities, characterized by a size of 2800x1000 mm;
  3. UV - a material with a unified profile, medium format (most often 1750x1130 mm), primarily in demand in civil engineering.

Types and dimensions of slate

Private developers for arranging roofs usually prefer 7-wave or 8-wave slate. Roofing material differs in the height of the ridge and the distance between the top points of the ridge. Accordingly, popular profiles have the following parameters:

  1. 40/150 (crest height is 40 mm, wave pitch is 150 mm);
  2. 54/200 (ridge height is 54 mm, wave pitch is 200 mm).
The wave height indicator is indicated for ordinary waves and overlapping, while the height of the extreme, overlapped wave is 32 mm for type 40/150 and 45 mm for type 54/200.

If not so long ago, slate was considered the traditional and most sought-after roofing material, today it is a rather rare roofing option for new buildings. There are situations when technological errors are made during the installation of the truss system. The bearing units of the structure do not have sufficient strength and stability; during the increase in loads, they change their geometry and spatial position. As a result, large cracks appear on the slate sheets. If they are located on the upper ridges, there are no big problems, leaks are almost invisible and do not constitute problems for attic spaces. But cracks can also be located on the lower waves, and here, during the rain, a lot of water flows, it will definitely fall on the rafter system. As practice shows, it is useless to repair such cracks. There is only one way out - depending on the degree of damage, change several sheets of slate or the entire roof.

  3. Unsatisfactory appearance. Mosses and lichens can grow on slate roofs, which significantly worsens the appearance of the building. There are ways to mechanically clean the coating using electric circular grinders, but experienced builders strongly do not recommend doing such work. Firstly, it is very difficult and long, and the effect is unpredictable. Secondly, there are risks of damage to the roofing.

Depending on the condition of the slate and the skills of the craftsmen, the old coating can be reused or it has to be taken to a landfill for construction waste disposal. Currently, five- and six-wave slates are almost not produced, most companies have switched to the production of eight-wave slate, it is rare to find seven-wave slate.

Slate has regulated marking requirements, inscriptions are applied to the extreme wave from the front side. Material characteristics and dimensions

Today, the most common material, which includes asbestos, cement, mixed with water. The components are in the ratio of 85 to 11 and to 4. There are ACLs - wave and flat, each of which has its own modifications:

Another version of slate is bituminous, in the bituminous base of which synthetic fibers and a plasticizer are added. The mass is baked at a high temperature, then it is molded under pressure. The resulting sheets are similar to asbestos-cement only in form. As for the characteristics of the materials, they are very different, for example, bituminous ones are much smaller in weight, say, for one sheet of 2 m 2 it is only from 6.5 to 7 kg. This is an environmentally friendly material, easy to install, chemically neutral, resistant to the formation of fungus, mold and more.

Considering the large assortment of ACL, we will determine the parameters of the main varieties, in particular, how much slate weighs 7 wave, 8 and weight 6 wave. This parameter gives an answer to such significant construction questions as whether the structure will be able to withstand the entire mass of the coating, or whether it will cause excessive shrinkage.

A certain confusion in the state of affairs is introduced by the fact that sheets made by different manufacturers according to their own specifications may have some variation in length and width. Naturally, this must necessarily affect the final weight of the product.

Therefore, we consider the profiles made according to the requirements of the state standard 30340-95. In suburban construction, 7-8-wave profiles of size 40 by 150 are mainly used. As indicated in GOST, their thickness can take two values ​​​​- 5.8 and 5.2 mm. In the first case, the mass

  • an eight-wave product is equal to 26.1 kg;
  • seven-wave - 23.2 kg.

A thickness reduction of only 0.6 mm lightens the profiles by approximately 4–4.5 kg.

It is performed with an overlap of one or two waves with an adjacent sheet, which reduces the usable area. It is its value that is used when calculating the number of profiles required to cover a given roof.
When calculating, you can use the following hint: to cover 100 m 2, you need 64 eight-wave profiles or 75 seven-wave profiles.

Let us calculate the load exerted by the roofing of wave material per 1 m 2. For an eight-wave profile, the number of sheets (64) is multiplied by the weight of each of them (26.1 kg), after which the result (1670 kg) is divided by 100. As a result, we find that the eight-wave profile acts on 1 m 2 of the roof structure with a load of 16, 7 kg. For a seven-wave, this value is 17.4 kg.

A large load requires more floors, so for buildings with light foundations, eight-wave material is used, since it acts on walls and foundations with less force.

When developing a roof project, the load created by natural phenomena, say, snowfall, is additionally taken into account.
