Brief Russian-German phrasebook (German language tutorial for beginners)

Preliminary remarks

1. In German, spelling is quite simple, so words are often read as they are written. However, I would like to give some rules for reading German words:

a) To correctly pronounce the sound “o”, round your lips as when pronouncing the sound “o” (the tongue lies flat), and try to vigorously pronounce the sound “e” without changing the position of your lips.

b) To correctly pronounce the sound “u”, round your lips, as when pronouncing the sound “u” (the tongue lies flat), and try to pronounce the sound “i” without changing the position of your lips.

c) The letter “a” conveys a sound similar to the Russian sound “e” in the word “eto”.

d) The letter “s” is read as the sound “s” at the end of the word and before consonants (as, for example, in the word “Moskau” - “Moscow”), as the sound “z” before and between vowels (as in the word "Saft" (zaft) - "juice") and as the sound "sh" at the beginning of a word or root before the letters t and p (as in the word "Stunde" (stunde) - "hour").

e) The combination of letters “ch” is read as “хь” after i, e, a, e, u (as, for example, in the word “ich” - the pronoun “I”); as "x" after a, o, u (as, for example, in the word "Woche" - "week") or as "k" before s (as in the word "sechs" - "six") .

f) The combination of letters “ei” conveys the sound “ai” (as in the word “nein” - “no”).

g) The combination of letters “sch” conveys the sound “sh” (as in the word “Schweiz” (Schweiz) - “Switzerland”).

h) The combination of letters “tsch” conveys the sound “ch” (as in the word “Deutschland” - “Germany”).

i) The consonants “b”, “d” and “g” at the end of words are deafened.

2. In the transcription below, the stressed vowel is highlighted in bold. Compound words have two stresses.

3. German nouns are always written with a capital letter.

4. Although there are many dialects of the German language, the official language, Hochdeutsch, is understood everywhere. Learn at least a few basic phrases, this will be especially useful if you are traveling in small towns where English is not always understood, especially in the eastern part of unified Germany.

The fastest way to master a spoken language is by teaching Russian to foreigners, and also by translating Russian classic literature and Russian educational literature into foreign languages. To do this, you need to have a good knowledge of the Russian language and Russian literature.

It has been noticed that many people do not know the basic rules of the Russian language, for example:

1. The number of quotation marks should always be even, like parentheses in mathematics.

Adjacent quotation marks can be of two types - "..." and "..." (paws and Christmas trees).

These errors are even in the names of large companies and some articles and books.

2. If there is information in brackets at the end of a sentence, the period is placed after the brackets, not before the brackets and inside before the closing bracket.
