Beanbags are the best furniture product, as they provide for practicality and ease of use. Contrary to the belief that they are a "dust collector", bean bags are much easier to clean, since removable covers can be easily machine washed. Simple maintenance, safety make the product in demand and relevant. Over time, the filler can be added to the required volume of the chair.

Among the most significant advantages of furniture without a frame are:

  1. Mobility. Frameless furniture provides a small weight in comparison with armchairs, sofas with a wooden frame.
  2. Environmental friendliness. Natural fabrics and hypoallergenic filling make such furniture environmentally friendly.
  3. Safety. The elements do not provide for corners, which allows you to secure the space for children.

  5. Durability. High-quality filler does not absorb moisture, dust, keeps its shape.
  6. Convenience, comfort. Frameless furniture adapts to the curves of the body, spine, creating comfortable conditions for relaxation.

This type of product will help you relax after a hard day's work, they will perfectly serve as children's furniture.

What you need to make a bean bag chair

Before you make a bag chair, you need to prepare the materials.

You need to understand that to create a large-scale product, many components will be required:

  • fabric for creating inner and outer covers;
  • two large zippers for convenient use and maintenance of the chair;
  • scissors;
  • threads;
  • filler;
  • a sewing machine will simplify the process of work, providing a neat seam.

The volume of materials is determined by the desired dimensions of the product.

How to sew a bean bag chair - a step by step description of the process

When deciding to make a furniture element on your own, you need to competently approach the preparatory work. It is important to make a pattern, calculate the amount of materials for tailoring the product. We will consider each item that will help in creating a bean bag chair. There are many types of product design, which will make a stylish furniture element suitable for the interior.

Creating a pattern + ready-made patterns

It will help to make an even chair bag pattern. You can draw a diagram yourself by calculating the size of the chair. Initially, it is necessary to determine the type of binbeg, and then select the appropriate drawings. Different designs require different basic components.

The scheme of the drop chair mainly consists of a common main part (back, side elements), a seating area and the bottom of the product.

A round product, as well as a pear chair, is formed from wedges. Their number is determined by the required dimensions of the seat. In addition to the side elements, there are two circles for the upper and lower parts of the chair. We must not forget about the allowance for stitching the components.

Filler selection

More often, expanded polystyrene is used as a filler. Round granules allow you to create a light, comfortable product that will not be subject to liquid absorption, will become a breathable, hypoallergenic interior component. Balls do not absorb odors, dust does not settle on them. At the same time, expanded polystyrene has excellent thermal insulation.

Over time, foam balls can lose their shape. You can update the chair by adding polystyrene foam.

In addition to it, in the production of bean bags, the following are used:

  • wood shavings;
  • cereals;
  • down, feathers;
  • holofiber, synthetic winterizer.

When choosing natural materials, it is necessary to take into account allergenicity, the ability to absorb moisture, dust. Hollofiber, synthetic winterizer, foam rubber roll faster. Grains and shavings do not withstand wet exposure. Down and feather fillers provide for the possibility of allergies, are not very convenient to use.

The choice of material for the cover

There are a lot of options for using fabric for the outer cover. It is desirable that it be dense, easy to clean.

Often products are sewn from a material called "Oxford", reminiscent of jacket fabric. Tents are also made from it. The advantage is water resistance.

When choosing a more “cozy” fabric, you can pay attention to dense textiles - flock, chenille, microvelvet, eco-leather is used. Suitable gabardine, twill, jeans.

It is advisable to choose a material that will not stretch.
For the inner cover, a dense spunbond is used. It provides holes for ventilation, does not absorb liquid. But you can buy an ordinary dense fabric, while being breathable. If air is not supplied, the polystyrene balls will crumple.

Cover tailoring

The do-it-yourself pouffe chair is made on the basis of a pattern, a drawing.

To stitch the components of the cover you need:

  1. Transfer the pattern pieces to paper and then cut them out.
  2. Spread the material for making the inner cover on a flat surface.
  3. Attach the pattern components to the fabric, circle with chalk with an allowance of about 2 cm.
  4. This method creates the elements of the outer cover, only the allowance is taken about 4 cm.
  5. Cut, baste, or pin the wedge elements.
  6. Sew them on the machine and the wrong side for the inner cover. Then reinforce the seams on the outside for the outer bag.
  7. The side seams must be ironed.
  8. We must not forget about the place for lightning. Leave about 40 cm for sewing the lock on the upper back of the product.
  9. Baste and then stitch the zipper.
  10. Attach the bottom of the product to the workpiece.

It is better to make the outer cover a few centimeters larger than the volume of the inner bag. After filling the product, you can stitch the top of the binbag.

Filling with polystyrene foam is carried out by pouring the elements through the lock. For convenience, you can cut off the sides of a half-liter bottle, place it in a case, pour foam balls. The edges of the bag can be sprayed with antistatic agent.

Other popular models and techniques for sewing bean bags

We looked at the most popular and simple methods for assembling parts for making a beanbag. Round frameless pouffes become convenient products for children's rooms, gardens, as their dimensions can be varied, children can easily move them, they provide maximum safety.

Drop chair

As a comfortable place to relax at home and in the office, drop-type chairs are often used. They provide a more rounded shape. Such products are relevant not only for use by adults, but also by children, because frameless furniture is considered universal for creating a comfortable interior design. They provide a compact and neat design.

Stylish drop chairs are made according to the principle of stitching the main element, including the back, sides, seats, lower component. No need to prepare a large number of wedges.

Pear chair

This type of beanbag provides for larger dimensions. It contains a high back. Features of tailoring are the need to prepare several wedges, the upper and lower parts. Comfort and convenience guarantees the presence of the back. The pear chair is actively used by children, young people, as well as the elderly.

The shapeless design makes the element comfortable for relaxation, as it adapts to the shape of the body as much as possible. Often it is used by pregnant women, as it allows you to fully relax.

Bean bag chair made from old jeans

A budget, but at the same time spectacular, interesting option is the use of old materials to create a stylish case. Denim is the most suitable type of fabric, as it has excellent durability, fits any interior design, looks stylish, and is resistant to damage.

The difficulty in making such a chair lies in the fact that it takes more time to prepare the pattern and stitch the elements together. Since denim clothing often does not have sufficient dimensions to make up large chairs, it is necessary to sew wedges from small fabric components. The production of drops and round seats, poufs will be optimal. They require less material, but at the same time look quite stylish, practical to use.

Today, the stores offer a wide selection of bean bags of various shapes and colors. But the price, unfortunately, may seem too high for such, in fact, simple and unpretentious. So why not sew a bean bag chair with your own hands, especially since nothing special is required for this.

Both comfortable furniture and a great toy for children - that's what a bean bag chair is.

A bit of history

Bean bags (bean-bag), sacco, pear, ball, bag - as soon as they do not call frameless chairs, which are rightfully considered one of the most unusual types of furniture. The history of bean bags or sacco, which in Italian means the same bag, began in 1968. It was then that Cesare Paolini, Franco Teodoro and Piero Gatti came up with frameless furniture, simply transforming an ordinary bag stuffed with leaves and hay.

The Italian industrialist Aurelio Zanotta undertook to bring the idea of the designers to life, who decided to invest in the mass production of bean bags and did not lose. The furniture novelty received several design awards and became an exhibit of museums as an example of art and a new word in interior design.

Today, bean bags are popular in various countries of the world, they are actively used in the design of office receptions and public places, cinemas and halls of student dormitories, children's and living rooms.

On average, the price of a finished frameless chair is $ 90-100 and depends on the quality of the filler, the fabric chosen for the cover and the popularity of the manufacturer's brand. The price of genuine leather products can exceed $1,000, and a regular ball chair, so popular in decorating children's rooms for boys, costs an average of $120.

The price, of course, is not so high, but why spend far from extra money if you can buy inexpensive filler, fabric, threads and make a bean bag chair with your own hands?

Bright pear chairs and balls can become a real highlight of the interior and are quite a popular option in both residential and public spaces.

What you need to create a bean bag chair with your own hands

So, you have decided that you can handle it on your own and are ready to start sewing a bean bag chair yourself. First of all, you need to take care of the availability of the following materials:

  1. Scale-coordinate drawing paper, that is, a simple graph paper, which will be needed to create a pattern.
  2. Inexpensive, but durable fabric for the inner bag, which will be filled with filler. The most common natural blended fabrics are suitable, for example, satin or tisi (fabric for sewing workwear), mattress or raincoat textiles, durable, water-repellent and at the same time lightweight polyester material. The size of the fabric cut depends on which chair you want to sew. For example, to sew a pear chair 120 centimeters high and 90 centimeters in diameter, 2.5 meters of fabric 115-122 centimeters wide are required. This chair can easily withstand weight up to 100 kilograms. If you want a slightly larger chair - you will need at least three meters of material, a maximum of three and a half, unless, of course, you are sewing a small sofa.
  3. Fabric for the outer cover. The cut will need the same size as for the inner cover, but the choice of fabrics is much wider here. You can use flock, velor, jacquard, chenille, artificial leather or fur, tapestry or artificial suede. It all depends on how much you want to spend on sewing a bean bag chair and the desire to create a bright and at the same time durable thing. It is believed that flock is ideal for a child seat-ball or pear - water-repellent, non-fading and at the same time very soft, pleasant to the touch material.
  4. Two zippers from 30 to 100 centimeters long, depending on the size and type of bag. On the outer cover, the zipper can be replaced with Velcro. The zipper on the inner cover is necessary so that in the future you can pour the filler, and sooner or later you will have to wash or clean the outer bag. In addition, if you wish, you can sew several external covers to change the appearance of the chair, surprising guests every time.
  5. Pencil for building a pattern.
  6. Meter line.
  7. Chalk to transfer the pattern to the fabric.
  8. Scissors.
  9. Strong reinforced threads for secure seams.
  10. Filler. How to fill the bean bag - you choose. Initially, the creators of this frameless furniture filled it with water, but then this idea had to be abandoned. Such "water" chairs turned out to be too heavy, and no one canceled the danger of a flood. Straw or hay is not a very convenient option and it will be uncomfortable to sit in such a chair. In addition, straw and fragrant hay do not like high humidity, and such a filler will have to be changed every 6-12 months. Buckwheat husk or rice - the chair, again, will turn out to be too heavy, clumsy and expensive, but we really want to save money. Scraps of fabrics, synthetic winterizer, cotton wool - all these fillers sooner or later clog, fall off and the chair will become uncomfortable. The ideal option is polystyrene foam balls with a diameter of at least 0.5 and no more than 1 centimeter. Styrofoam balls that are too small will make the chair quite heavy, and large ones will not be able to evenly distribute on the chair and it will be uncomfortable to sit. For our standard chair, you will need from 200 to 300 liters of filler. Remember that such a volume of filler weighs only 1-1.5 kilograms - do not buy, for example, ten-kilogram industrial packages - they can take half a house. It is believed that imported polystyrene balls are better than domestic ones, but they also cost a little more. Do not try to replace the finished filler with "crushed", that is, recycled defective foam. This is a cheap option, but a chair with such a filler will not provide comfort.
  11. Sewing machine.

Now let's calculate the costs. We hope that you already have a sewing machine, scissors, a ruler and a pencil, and you can replace the chalk with a bar of soap. A bag of filler with a volume of 100 liters costs from 200 to 500 rubles (depending on the manufacturer), and we need three of these packages. The cost of fabric for covers depends on the type of material. Let's say we chose tisi fabric for the inner bag (from 85 rubles per meter), and flock for the outer cover (from 190 rubles per meter).

Filler today can be ordered online or purchased at a hardware store, fabric - at a specialized outlet or also online.

As we remember, we will need about three meters of each fabric (we will take with a small margin). So: 600 rubles - filler, plus 255 rubles - fabric for the inner bag, plus 570 - material for the outer cover. Total - 1425 rubles. Yes, a skein of reinforced thread also costs money - about 9 rubles. As you can see, even in the case of using a fairly expensive upholstery fabric, the cost of a hand-sewn bean bag chair is about half lower than the finished options.

To create such a standard pear chair, you will need about 2.5 meters of fabric for the inner and outer covers.

Bean bag design options

Frameless chairs can take the most bizarre and unusual forms. Below we will give patterns for the three most popular options for creating such furniture, but before dwelling on one of them, think about where your bean bag chair will be located and what function it will perform in the interior.

For example, if you are planning to place a frameless chair in a nursery, then your imagination in terms of colors and shapes is limited only by the predilections of the child himself and your financial “ceiling” in terms of buying fabric for the outer cover.

It is more difficult to place a bean bag chair in the living room, since the general style of the interior design of the room can contrast sharply with such an unusual item. We note right away that it is difficult to fit a frameless, actually shapeless chair into a classic interior.

Such furniture is more suitable for the style, which is characterized by bizarre shapes and the absence of straight lines, as well as modern interiors.

In any case, remember that the color of the outer cover of the chair should be in harmony with the overall color scheme of the room.

The three-color bean bag chair fits perfectly into the interior of this bright children's room.

The neutral beige tone of these frameless chairs allows them to become a harmonious part of the modern interior.

The process of creating a bean bag chair

Let's proceed directly to sewing a frameless chair:

  1. First of all, we determine the shape and size of our product and transfer the pattern to graph paper. The pattern is transferred to paper according to the specified scale. You can create your own version by calculating the dimensions that are required for you, and if the chair is intended for a child, simply proportionally reduce the width and length of the wedges, as well as the dimensions of the remaining parts.
  2. Next, according to the prepared paper patterns, we cut out the material, not forgetting to leave an additional 1.5 centimeters on each side for an allowance. You should have six wedges for the main part, two bottom parts and one top part if you are sewing a pear chair. For the ball chair, you will need a lot more details - 20 large hexagons and 12 small pentagons. For a rectangular chair, you should cut out the bottom, two side, front and front parts, as well as the back.

Yes, do not forget - this is only the inner cover, then you will have to do the same, only on the fabric chosen for the outer cover of our chair.

  1. Then, for convenience, all parts are fastened together with needles and basted manually. Similarly, at this stage, zippers should be swept into the bottom of each cover so as not to spoil the appearance of the chair.
  2. Now we sit down at the sewing machine and securely sew each seam with a reinforced thread, and remove temporary seams - we don’t need threads sticking out anywhere.
  3. To make the chair durable and last for a long time, you should additionally impose a second line or process each seam with an overlock, having previously bent the start we left.
  4. Now we turn the resulting “pouch” and proceed to filling the inner cover with polystyrene foam balls.

Before filling, we advise you to remove small children and pets from the room, as light balls tend to become electrified and fly around the room with lightning speed. Getting a small ball into the respiratory tract is very dangerous, and swallowing them is strictly not recommended. If the balls managed to scatter, use a vacuum cleaner to collect them.

It is much more convenient to fill the filler through a large watering can, which is inserted into the neck of the inner case, a paper funnel or just a cut plastic bottle. It is impossible to fill the inner cover “to the eyeballs” - by about two-thirds, in order to leave the chair the opportunity to adapt to the person sitting.

  1. Now it remains to iron the outer cover (if the selected textile requires it) and put it on the inner, already filled one.

By the way, you can put one cover on another immediately, and then pour the polystyrene foam balls inside - as you prefer.

  1. For convenience, you can also sew a strap, for which you can carry the chair from one place to another. Although, in the case of a ball-chair or a rectangular model, the strap will be clearly out of place.

One more nuance: if you use artificial leather for sewing the outer cover, you should leave a few eyelets (holes with special metal round inserts) to allow air to pass through. That's all, it's not that difficult, right?

This is what the bean bag chair looks like inside

To begin with, we advise you to try your hand at sewing a small pear chair for a nursery. If the experiment is successful, and the chair turns out to be beautiful and comfortable, you can start sewing an adult model - after all, you most likely still have the filler.

Experienced bean bag makers can afford to decorate their product with applique or embroidery, turn a child seat into a cartoon character, animal or futuristic object. In addition, pockets for small things and toys can be sewn to the chair to make it not only comfortable and beautiful, but also a useful interior detail.

Today is about how to sew a bean bag chair with your own hands. A bean bag chair comes in different shapes, but most often it is a pear chair or a ball chair, in terms of comfort they do not compete only in your preference, patterns of a bean bag chair of various shapes, as well as a bean bag chair for children in this post. What does a bag chair look like in the interior of an apartment?

Benefits of a bean bag chair

The bean bag chair belongs to frameless furniture, it is comfortable, it is pleasant for adults and children to relax in it.

One of the advantages of a bean bag chair is that it is mobile, it can be easily moved from room to room, placed in any part of the room, and even taken outside, into the garden, to relax in the shade of trees.

The bean bag chair is filled with polystyrene foam balls, so it is very comfortable to sit in such a chair, because. the chair takes the natural curves of the body and the spine relaxes, because. the load is removed from it, even in such an armchair it is warm to sit, and this is especially desirable in the evening - relaxation and warmth.

The bean bag is safe for children, because. it has no hard and protruding parts.

The bean bag is easy to keep clean. it consists of two covers, the inner one is padded and the outer one is removable and machine washable.

Bean bag in the interior

Some difficulty lies in the fact that not every interior fits a bean bag, the only room in which a bean bag will look, in almost every house, in its place is a children's room. I see a way out of this situation in the following, the bean bag needs to be “settled” in the children's room, and since it can be easily moved, use it where you want, and then return it to the nursery. So that the bean bag does not seem like something foreign in the room, sew it from a fabric that is in harmony with the color of other furniture and / or textiles, it is not desirable that the chair merges in color with the wallpaper in the room, but isn’t that just a disguise)

You can buy a bean bag chair in a furniture store, and on the Internet more often stores specializing only in bean bags of various shapes. The beauty is that in such stores you can buy pear chairs, ball chairs, etc. with different funny prints, a Mickey Mouse chair, a banana chair, etc., but this complicates the situation even more, such a chair in the interior may look like a foreign body.

How to choose a bag chair in a store

If you decide to sew a bean bag chair with your own hands, you will have some advantage in the choice of fabric, color, add to this some savings in the family budget and the scales will shift to the side: sew a bean bag with your own hands!

How to sew a bean bag chair with your own hands

Sewing a bean bag chair with your own hands is simple from a technical point of view, it can be a little inconvenient, due to the size of the chair.

By and large, the bean bag chair consists of two covers. The inner cover of the bean bag chair must be made of durable fabric, because. the load on the chair will be substantial, and if you sew an inner cover from dilapidated fabric, such as old curtains, sheets, tablecloths, etc., then there is a high risk that such a cover will tear and all the filling will spill into the top cover, pouring it is not an easy task . For the inner cover, it is good to use mattress fabric, it is not very easy to find, but this fabric is elastic, adds softness and improves the appearance of the chair itself. Or at least a waterproof fabric and durable like polyester, if you spill a drink on a bag chair, the filler will remain dry and you won’t have to fool around to dry it, just wash the top cover.

It is preferable to sew the inner cover of the chair from a light fabric, in case the top cover is translucent. The top case also needs to be made of durable fabric, for obvious reasons.

What fabric to sew a bean bag chair from: so that the bean bag chair lasts for a long time, choose good quality furniture fabric, for example, leatherette, oxford, thermo jacquard, etc.

What is the bean bag filled with?

Expanded polystyrene balls are used as a chair filler, 2/3 of the filler should be poured into the inner cover. If you fill the filler into the inner cover, then pulling the upper cover will be problematic. Over time, the expanded polystyrene balls are crushed by weight, their volume decreases, then they need to be refilled. For one chair, you will need about 200-250 liters, depending on the size of the chair, you can buy balls at a hardware store. It is better to choose balls with a density of 10 kg / m3; they will last longer. wrinkle less. In order to sit comfortably in the chair, add 500g to the filler. synthetic down (holofiber)

From this video you will learn how polystyrene foam balls differ and which ones are more practical to use as a filler for a bean bag chair, how to pour the filler into a chair cover and how to remove spilled polystyrene foam from the floor. Practical Tips!

Bean bag in the interior photo, good examples

The bag chair in the interior can look very harmonious and has the right to be in the house, but it is important that the color and style of the chair be in harmony with the rest of the items in the room. Use the color combination rules.

In recent decades, frameless furniture has gained popularity due to its light weight, ability to retain body heat, ergonomics, and benefits for the spine. Another feature of this solution for the interior was the simplicity of its manufacture. Even inexperienced tailoring people can do it. If you choose the right materials and filler, you can make a bean bag chair with your own hands in one day. Such an experiment will reward the owner with several bonuses at once: a new design object will appear in the house, the problem with a comfortable stay in a sitting position will be solved, the owner will gain experience and a sense of satisfaction from a useful thing created with his own hand.

Creative people who value comfort and individuality have come up with many design options for making a bean bag chair with their own hands. For example, there is an original solution when an easy chair is sewn in the form of an open glove, where the seat is a palm, and 5 fingers play the role of a back. But four forms have become the leaders of frameless seats:

  1. Pear - maximally reproduces the classic configuration options for upholstered furniture. The pear chair consists of 6 side elements resembling this fruit in shape, and two more parts - for the base and top with a hexagon contour. This model allows you to comfortably lean back in the chair, having good support for the head.
  2. The ball is most in demand by young men, sports fans. A baby bean bag for a boy can have the same shape, which is easy to make with your own hands from black and white pentagons sewn together. If you choose leatherette as an outer cover, then a soft ottoman will look like a big football attribute. Basketball fans construct a seat from two semicircular orange spheres with a dark stripe. What's more, fans can decorate their accessory with stickers or team name embroidery.
  3. A drop is an option that looks like a pear chair, but looks more futuristic. The side walls can be made in four or six pieces, resembling a teardrop but with a flat base. The bottom, respectively, is made in the form of a square or a hexagon. Due to the absence of the upper part (cover), the back of the soft chair looks like a cone, which is easy to hold and move the seat to another place.
  4. The oval is the last of the classic fashion solutions offered by factory designers. This chair is a bit like a bed, as it can be located in any position, even lying on your back. The shape corresponds to the name and consists of two large oval parts. A wide ribbon is sewn between them, which regulates the selected height for the pouffe chair.

The configuration of a frameless chair can be whimsical (in the form of an open flower, a crown or a funny animal - a penguin or a kangaroo), but the most important criterion will be the ease of use. The soft seat should not have hard folds, buttons or decorative elements that will create discomfort.

Materials and tools

To sew a bean bag chair yourself, you need to decide on the choice of materials and filler. In addition, you will have to pick up strong threads, as well as decide which fastener is suitable for the convenience of removing the cover.

It is better to sew an external cover for a bean bag with your own hands from practical material. After all, he will be subjected to regular pressure of body weight and often come into contact with clothing. For this, it is necessary to make two covers. The upper must be wear-resistant so that it can be washed and cleaned without compromising the internal filling. In addition, the material should not fade, stretch, shed or shrink when washed. You can determine how much fabric you need from the drawing after choosing the configuration. The inner cover is usually sewn from cotton or cheaper, but durable synthetics, since its function is to securely hold its shape. The ideal option would be polyester with a water-repellent impregnation.

The most common filler is polystyrene foam (styrofoam balls), which has an extraordinary lightness, which will allow you to sew an ottoman with a small mass for a small child. The kid will be able to rearrange such furniture independently. A more budget option would be foam rubber or old things that can be cut into shreds. The cleanest option, from the point of view of ecology, is filling with legumes (peas, beans) or buckwheat. Small round seeds perfectly adapt to the shape of the body, but such furniture will be much heavier and stiffer.

When filling the chair with expanded polystyrene balls, it should be borne in mind that over time this filler is crushed, so it will need to be added periodically. The service life of expanded polystyrene depends on its density.

Sequence of work

For the successful completion of the project to create an ottoman bag with your own hands, the sequence of actions is important, which is almost the same for any form. The pattern for a ball chair or a drop differs only in the size and configuration of the parts. For example, a step-by-step instruction for a do-it-yourself chair will be described, which will reveal the process of manufacturing a pear-shaped version.

Preparation of materials and tools:

  • selection of a pear chair pattern of the optimal size (maximum XL);
  • sewing machine, scissors, threads matching the color of the fabric of the upper cover;
  • work surface for cutting (a large table or part of the floor without a carpet);
  • ruler, pencil, graph paper, compasses to get a pattern with dimensions;
  • two types of fabric with a width of at least 150 cm, the density of the matter should be medium so that the machine can sew 2-3 layers at the same time;
  • zipper according to the color of the fabric with a length of at least 0.5 m;
  • filler.

The list and quantity of tools and materials may vary depending on the selected product model.

Size selection

For experienced craftsmen who often sew, a pattern for a bean bag chair can be made directly on the material. The most economical option is to use fabrics with a width of 1.5 m and a length of 3 m. This area freely fits 6 wedges, which will be the sides of the furniture and two hexagons (bottom and top).

The dimensions of the parts will be as follows:

  • a small upper hexagon has the same sides of all edges - 20 cm each;
  • large lower - equal sides of 40 cm;
  • each side wedge has a height of 130 cm, the upper and lower platforms - respectively 20 and 40 cm (coincide with the edges of the hexagons), at the widest point the width should be 50 cm.

Beginners will need step-by-step instructions and a pattern for a bean bag on graph paper.

The layout of parts on canvases, where the height of the fabric is 1.5 m and the width is 3 m, is as follows:

  • starting from the upper right corner, 2 wedges are sequentially laid out on the fabric (bottom on the right, top on the left), the first block is completed by a small hexagon;
  • the next strip also consists of two wedges, but they are turned upside down (the top is on the right, the bottom is on the left), the second block is completed by a half of a large hexagon, which is divided into equal parts with an acute angle at the top;
  • in the last row, the side parts are laid out similarly to the first, at the end the second half of the hexagon is placed.

When drawing constituent elements on the material, an allowance of 1.5 cm is required for the seams around each part. If the fabric is dark, then it is convenient to draw a drawing with a thin bar of soap. When using crayons or markers, it is important to remember that the bright color may be visible on the light fabric outer cover.

Tailoring

A sewing machine will allow you to sew a bean bag chair as accurately as possible according to the pattern. Hand stitching is very time consuming and can only look good with true craftsmen. In order for the work with covers to be convenient, it is important to follow the sequence of connecting parts.. In this case, a detailed pattern with the correct dimensions will be indispensable.

The work consists of the following steps:

  1. First, two parts of a large hexagon are connected. It is important to sew the halves so that the total length is 40 cm, and also equal to the rest of the sides.
  2. 6 side faces are sequentially sewn together without joining the extreme sides.
  3. Large and small hexagons are attached above and below.
  4. A zipper is sewn into the open side wedges, which will allow you to remove the top cover or open the inner one to fill the pouffe. Inserting the lock requires a lot of attention, as its ends must be hidden inside the case.

It would be best for beginner needlewomen to start working from the bottom shell in order to take into account possible mistakes and not repeat them on the outer one.

Filler stuffing

If the pear chair, sewn by hand, is ready for filling, then the stuffing process will depend on the material chosen. In the case of choosing lightweight polystyrene foam, soft bean bags will require at least 450 liters of raw materials, as they are designed for a maximum size XL. When filling a pouffe bag with foam granules, you will have to be very careful, as weightless balls often crumble.

To avoid excess debris, it is better to connect the neck of the bag with loose contents and the hole in the inner cover, which should fit snugly against the package. It is also recommended to spray the fabric with water to reduce the electrostatics of the foam. The best solution would be stuffing with filler in four hands.

The same method of connecting containers is suitable for bulk biological bases (legumes and buckwheat). When using old things, they are not just cut into small pieces, but they also use the layering method so that the lumps do not bulge on the sides and do not protrude under the cover with irregularities. The most comfortable simple filler is a synthetic winterizer, as it is light in weight and fits in even layers.

decoration

If you managed to sew a bean bag chair, then it is important to pay attention not only to convenience, but also to the aesthetic part of the new piece of furniture. A do-it-yourself bag at home can be made a real design art object. For example, if old jeans are chosen as external protection, then in addition to native pockets, you can sew on several additional ones - from bright fabrics.

An easy way to sew a puff pouffe and make it an individual personal gift is to sew a “photo print” of a family member on the back of a plain chair and make each tenant their own ottoman bag with your own hands.

For bourgeois oval empire-style large pillows made of plush or velvet, the addition of luxurious fringe is appropriate. Bows and ruffles are perfect for colorful pastel chairs with a reference to Provence. For a children's frameless product, you can sew a "cognitive" cover with multi-colored letters of the alphabet and numbers. A preschooler will visually memorize symbols, which will facilitate the learning process.

Caring for frameless furniture is easy. A cushion chair filled with Styrofoam may shrink over time, as the foam filling will gradually lose air due to stress. The problem is solved by a simple addition of padding. It is better to place frameless furniture filled with bulk materials away from heating appliances, and also not to keep it in the sun for a long time, because due to the gradual evaporation of moisture, the filling will decrease in volume, and the contours will deform.

If it is decided to sew a bean bag chair for children, like a comfortable high chair, then it is important to wash the outer cover correctly, especially if it is multi-colored. For regular cleaning of the surface, you can use special wet wipes. Gentle substances without chlorine are used as a laundry detergent, preferably a liquid consistency.

A variety of options and shapes of the bean bag chair can bring comfort and mood to everyday life. For lovers of new experiences, it is enough to sew several outer covers on one pouffe and change them according to your mood. Frameless furniture is a great way to decorate the interior.

Modern people value their own coziness and comfort. They do not want to clutter up their apartments with uncomfortable and bulky interior items. Therefore, frameless furniture is now at the peak of popularity. It is lightweight, able to provide the necessary level of convenience, and it can be placed even in a small room. One of the brightest representatives of such interior decorations is a pear chair.

Figure 1. The frameless pear chair has become popular because it is comfortable, does not take up much space and looks original.

As a rule, such furniture, made in the factory, is not cheap. But even a novice craftswoman can make it on her own. This does not require any special skills or expensive materials.

Materials and tools

In order to sew a chair, you must first prepare the materials and tools that you will need in your work. These include:

Figure 2. An example of a finished pattern with dimensions.

  • paper for making patterns (tracing paper or graph paper);
  • fabric for covers;
  • 2 zippers (length 45 and 65 cm);
  • filler;
  • sewing machine;
  • sewing accessories (needles, pins, zipper foot, thread);
  • measuring instruments (measuring tape, ruler).

The bag chair consists of 2 covers, inner and outer. Its appearance is shown in Figure 1.

For the interior of the chair, it is necessary to choose a dense and sufficiently strong fabric. Otherwise, the filler may come out and the chair will become an inexhaustible source of garbage in your room. The choice of fabric for the outer cover depends entirely on your tastes, preferences and overall interior design. It can be furniture materials, such as tapestry or velor. Looks good faux fur, velvet. For a children's room, a bright chair, decorated with bright patterns, is suitable.

When choosing a material, it is worth remembering that the bag chair is located on the floor. Therefore, it is worth giving preference to non-staining, easy-care fabrics or sewing spare covers. For a product intended for an adult, you will need approximately 3.5-4 m of each type of material. In this case, it is worth considering that the outer cover should be slightly larger than the inner one.

Foamed foam is suitable as a filler for a chair. It will need approximately 0.25 m 2. When choosing and purchasing material, it is worth remembering that it is sold in very bulky packages (about 0.5 m 2 each). Therefore, it is more reasonable to order the delivery of the filler.

pattern making

The pattern for the chair consists of such details as:

Figure 3. The layout of the pattern on the fabric

  • wedges - 6 pcs.;
  • top detail - 1 pc.;
  • the middle part of the base - 1 pc.;
  • side elements of the base - 2 pcs.

An example of a finished pattern with all the necessary dimensions is shown in fig. 2.

First you need to prepare a pattern of wedges (since they are the same). In the example diagram, the height of the parts is 1200 mm, and the width of the bottom is 450 cm. The width of the upper part must match the length of the side of the hexagon, which is the “lid”, that is, in this case it is 210 mm.

In order for the bag chair to turn out symmetrical, the pattern can be made half. Only one part of the part is built on paper (the element seems to be cut along), and the left and right sides are alternately drawn on the fabric.

The bottom consists of 4 parts. It is necessary to prepare a pattern for the upper and middle parts of the bottom. Moreover, 2 separate upper parts are cut out (in mirror image). But the middle part can be cut as 1 element (first the left, and then the right part).

We match all the marked points arbitrarily, connecting them in turn with a smooth line.

Cutting fabrics and sewing

The bag chair should be sewn sequentially. That is, first cut the inner cover and only then take on the outer one. So you do not get confused in the blanks.

Spread the fabric wrong side up on the floor. Lay out all the details of the pattern. An approximate diagram of their location is shown in Fig. 3.

When planning the cut, do not forget about the seam allowances.

Since they will all be inside the product, they can be made equal to 1.5-2 cm. Next, all the details of the pattern need to be circled. To do this, use a piece of chalk or dry soap. Do not forget that some elements need to be flipped and mirrored.

If you have a good eye, then the wedges that make up the bag chair do not have to be cut out separately. You can fold the fabric 6 times and cut it with equal allowances. In order for the pattern not to move, pin it with pins.

When cutting the top cover, follow the direction of the grain thread and the pile of the fabric. You cannot turn the pattern in different directions, otherwise the product will turn out to be deformed, and the pattern of the material will be located in different directions. Then your bag chair will look sloppy.

In order to sew a chair, you will need only 3-4 hours. First, the details of the inner cover are ground. The details of the wedges are chipped in pairs, with the outer side inward, and grinded. In one of the seams, it is necessary to leave a pass for sewing in a zipper.

Then the bottom of the bag is formed and stitched to the base. The last thing you need to fix the "lid". The finished product is turned inside out and the clasp is sewn in. The most convenient way to do this is with a special foot for sewing machines. The upper cover is made in the same way.

For the final formation of the product, you need to fill the inner cover with filler. It does not need to be tamped or laid too tightly. The bag chair should be soft and easily take the shape of the human body. If desired, the product can be decorated. Beautiful braid, fringe, brushes and the like are suitable for this. The child seat is decorated with sewn-on applications, embroidery or small soft toys.
