The pantry in the apartment often serves as a warehouse for unnecessary things. It is customary to store old clothes, empty boxes, broken electrical appliances and other utensils that are not suitable for use here. As a result, the room looks unkempt and cluttered. But these few meters can be turned into a full-fledged room!

How to design a pantry for the benefit of all family members? We offer to consider the most practical ideas for landscaping with photo examples.

The first thing to do before decorating the pantry is to throw out everything you don't need. Do not feel sorry for worn things and faulty appliances; for sure, no one will use them anymore, and they take up a lot of space. After a complete "sweep" you will be surprised how much free space can be used wisely.

Since this little room is usually hidden from view, its decoration can be the simplest. The most suitable wall materials are wallpaper, plastic panels and drywall sheets. It is enough to level the ceiling and paint it, or finish it with the same drywall.

The best option for the floor is ceramic tiles. It is distinguished by good wear resistance and can easily withstand heavy loads (laden boxes, bedside tables, racks). Linoleum is another practical and more affordable flooring option for a utility room.

When designing a pantry in an apartment, it is worth considering that this room is devoid of natural daylight. So that you can easily find the necessary thing, it is recommended to organize a mini-system of artificial lighting. For very small spaces, one high power lamp in the center of the ceiling is usually sufficient; multifunctional storages are best equipped with additional lighting - for example, built-in lamps in racks or above shelves with clothes (see photo below).

Regardless of the purpose of the utility room (storage of food, clothes or household appliances), designers strongly recommend taking care of high-quality ventilation. High humidity provokes the appearance of condensation and harmful fungi that can ruin stored utensils. If ventilation is not possible, do not neglect regular ventilation.

When designing a pantry design, another question reasonably arises: should you keep the old door, remove it, or replace it with a new one? To save space in small apartments, a standard swing door can be replaced with a sliding or accordion door. This solution does not take the passage, and it looks modern.

The easiest option is to hang a beautiful curtain that is in harmony with the overall style of the apartment.

5 ideas for a pantry in an apartment

How to properly manage the space in the utility room? The most practical ways to use non-residential square meters are the arrangement of a home office, food storage systems, a dressing room, a workshop / household or a multifunctional room.

Study. Many owners complain that in a typical apartment there is absolutely no place for work / study and personal space. A pantry can solve this problem: decorate the walls in a calm color scheme, put a writing (computer) table, hang shelves or put up a bookcase - the home office is ready! How a study in an apartment looks like in practice can be seen in the photo of the design of the pantry room.

Storage for products. If the utility room is located between the kitchen and the corridor (bathroom, living room), it is reasonable to organize storage for pickles, canned foods, cereals, spices and other food in it.

To decorate the interior, you will need shelving or makeshift shelves fixed in several rows. It is recommended to store heavy containers on the lowest shelves (for example, bottles with homemade preparations, large pots); on the shelves above - bulk products, canned food, kitchen accessories.

Wardrobe. Residents of small apartments (especially families with children) often face the problem of storing clothes. Where to hang a seasonal coat and evening dress, where to put winter shoes and where to hide an obsolete sweater? The answer is simple: convert your pantry design into a walk-in closet.

As a rule, to equip a dressing room, you need a lot of shelves, hanger bars, shoe racks, baskets and drawers for accessories. On the lower tiers of the structure, seasonal shoes are usually stored, on the middle shelves - frequently used items: laundry baskets, umbrellas, belts, various accessories, etc. The uppermost compartments are reserved for storage of rarely used items: suitcases for clothes, cases.

If possible, equip a folding ironing board in the pantry and hang a mirror (if the space allows you to organize a mini-fitting room).

Domestic premises. The number of household appliances only increases every year, but the area of the apartment, alas, remains the same. So that the vacuum cleaner, kitchen appliances and other appliances are not an eyesore, it is recommended to allocate a separate room for them. You can even run plumbing and connect a washing machine here!

The design of a pantry in an apartment can be completely unexpected. For example, here you can organize a workshop, a small library or an “interest club” (for example, storage for fishing tackle, travel, sports equipment, etc.).

Multifunctional room. The main purpose of the pantry is to store non-essential items. In view of this, the utility room can be used for any purpose. The main thing is to keep all the contents in order, which will help you with a variety of mechanisms and storage systems.

The photos of the pantry room design presented below are clear evidence that objects of different purposes can coexist on several square meters. Mops and buckets, drawers and collapsible furniture, tools and sports equipment, pet food, clothes and shoes can all be placed in the pantry, freeing up additional living space.

A pantry in an apartment can be used for storing supplies, conservation, dish sets, cleaning products, etc. Many of these items should be stored separately: cereals - in tightly closed containers where pests will not penetrate; vegetables - in well-ventilated boxes; detergents - away from food. Therefore, the design of a small pantry requires careful organization. Each item must have its own specific place. How to achieve this when the size of the room leaves nothing to be desired? Find out more with a selection of 10 pantry ideas and 20+ photos!

1. High shelving for a pantry room

Tall metal and wood shelving doubles the usable pantry space and makes food storage more manageable. A movable ladder or stool will help you get things from the upper shelves under the ceiling.

2. Small closet design with built-in furniture

3. Wall shelves in the pantry

Shelves in the pantry are an easier option that you can do yourself. Note that they do not solve the problem of organization, but they allow the use of walls from floor to ceiling. Here are a few examples of how you can use wall shelves in the pantry, in the photo:

4. Corner solutions for small spaces

Corner shelves allow you to make the most of the space in a small pantry. Especially worth considering is the installation of a rotating corner block, which makes it easy to reach deeply hidden objects.

5. Sliding doors to the pantry

Choose a compartment or ordinary sliding doors to the closet if you want to save space not only inside this room, but also outside.

6. Overdoor equipment for the storage room

Are you looking for swing doors that will open into a corridor, kitchen or other adjoining space? Then why don't you equip them with additional shelves?

7. Baskets and boxes for storing vegetables

Metal mesh boxes and wicker baskets are ideal for storing potatoes, carrots and other vegetables. They are well ventilated and do not allow moisture to accumulate, which leads to decay. To ensure a smooth surface and ease of maintenance, it is recommended to cover the bottom of these boxes with organic glass, cardboard or plywood.

8. Organizers for a small pantry

Spices in one place, cereals in another, preservation in a third, etc. We adhere to this rule every time we put things in order. But over time, everything gets mixed up again. The next time we clean, we find long-expired cans of condensed milk, moldy cheese, and the source of an unpleasant smell in the form of a missing head of cabbage. How to solve this problem once and for all?

Special organizers will help you with this - shelves and boxes with strictly defined sizes and shapes, which are designed to store specific items. Keeping a small pantry clean and tidy is pretty easy when there is only one place for each category of things. Examples of such solutions are in the following photos:

The design of a small pantry in an apartment - 10 best ideas updated: December 14, 2016 by: Margarita Glushko

Some newly minted owners of an apartment with a pantry are in a hurry to expand their living space by demolishing it. But is it right? Even if your family has only two members, every year the number of things will increase, and with the birth of a child, they will grow exponentially. Where to store all used household items, how to place them in order to save living space? In the closet, on the balcony, or on the open shelves in the bedroom? Of course, the pantry is the best option of all. It is about the design and design of the pantry in the apartment that we will talk today, and also see photos of the pantries along with the Dream House website.

In fact, the importance of the storage room can hardly be overestimated - seasonal items are stored here (umbrellas, scooters, sleds, skis, and even), household appliances (vacuum cleaner), construction tools, cans with blanks and even clothes. But in order to streamline the placement of all items and not turn the pantry into a source of trash, you need to work a little on its design, which we will do now. But first, let's see where you can organize a storage room if it is not provided by the builders?

Where can I make a pantry in the apartment

Even those who are not lucky enough to have such a functional room should not be upset, it can always be built using some unnecessary or secluded corner of even a small apartment. So, where and how to make a pantry in the apartment:

 1. In a niche - in this case, redevelopment is not even needed, we make shelves and close it with a beautiful door. That's all, the storage room in the apartment is ready!
 2. At the dead end of the corridor - ideal if your apartment has a long corridor. A few square meters in its dead end is fenced off (possible with the help) and a door is placed.
 3. Above the door - the option is not very good, but it is suitable for the most extreme case, if there is no other place in the apartment. As a rule, such structures are built in the kitchen and used to store conservation.
 4. In the closet - in principle, in itself plays the role of a small pantry, its spacious shelves allow you to store often and little-used household items.
 5. In one of the rooms - in this case, you will have to reduce the room by several square meters. If you are ready to make such sacrifices - go for it!

Making repairs in the closet

Before you start renovating your storage room, you need to think in advance what you will store there. Will it be a tool cabinet or a place to store household appliances? Or maybe all at once? In any case, in order to correctly think over lighting and ventilation, as well as to make the design of the pantry room the most functional, it is advisable to draw a plan for this little room.

It is better to decorate the walls and ceiling with durable materials, so that repairs are not made here every year due to peeling or falling off wallpaper. Perhaps the best option for walls and ceilings can be considered plastic panels. Drywall for painting can also be considered, but experience shows that it fails earlier (worn and chipped corners are confirmation of this).

It is better to put non-slip material on the floor, as a rule, the floor in the closet is made the same as in the adjacent room. and linoleum for these purposes are ideal.

As for the door, it should not stand out from the overall design of the room. From the point of view of practicality and space saving, it is better to make it sliding. Sometimes the door to the pantry is made mirrored, but most often the same doors are ordered for the entire apartment (including the pantry).

How to equip a pantry in an apartment

Now comes the turn of the most interesting lesson - dividing the pantry into sections. Let's see how to equip the pantry in the apartment in terms of functionality. To rationally use a small area, it is better to use every centimeter and every corner. Below, as a rule, they make open shelves for seasonal shoes - in boxes or without them, shoes and boots will wait in the wings safe and sound. Here it is necessary to clarify that ordinary shelves can be used to store shoes, or special ones can be installed, which are installed at an angle for ease of use and space saving. Also, at the bottom of the pantry, do not forget to take a separate section under.

The middle shelves are reserved for frequently used items. Drawers for clothes, shelves with tools can be placed here - in general, all the things that are needed in everyday life are placed at arm's length. The recommended depth of the shelves is about 40 cm, but this value can be adjusted depending on the area of the pantry. Make sure that you are comfortable and, at the same time, all things are laid out in their places, because there is no place for clutter in the pantry.

One of the walls can be taken under the wardrobe by installing rods and hooks for hanging clothes. Agree, taking a clean and ironed dress off the hanger is much more pleasant than pulling it off the shelf, and then wasting time ironing it. Even in the smallest pantry, you can allocate space for installing a hanger bar.

And finally, we got to the upper shelves, on which little-used items are placed. To get to them, you have to stand on, but you don’t need to do this every day, because there are stored various boxes, children’s things that are already small for a child, and all unnecessary trash that is waiting to be thrown away.

Even a small area comparable in size to can be turned into a pantry. For example, in the kitchen, such a closet is used to store household chemicals, mops, buckets and a vacuum cleaner. At the same time, in order to save space, mops and brooms are stored vertically on the door, and a roll of napkins is hung on a special holder (also on the pantry door).

If the area of the pantry allows, then do not forget to provide a folding one. And here you can equip shelves for storing conservation. An interesting option is the “pantry in the pantry” design - one of the walls is taken under the shelves for conservation and closed. The rest of the space is arranged as you like. Thus, it becomes possible to combine the storage of preservation and clothing without fear of spoiling it.

Some people deliberately refuse storage rooms in the apartment, increasing other rooms at the expense of them. But it’s better not to do this, because the pantry gives the apartment additional functionality and helps to maintain order in the house. However, the interior space of the pantry must be organized in such a way that each thing is in its place, otherwise the useful room will turn into a warehouse of forgotten trash. Well, the design of the pantry deserves special attention.

What is the closet for, and where can it be located?

The pantry is a very necessary room in the apartment! Here you can store old newspapers, repair tools, sports equipment, outerwear, conservation, household appliances, kitchen utensils, cleaning supplies, seasonal items and many other necessary things that you do not use every day. This is a standard, but far from the only use of the pantry. In addition, the pantry can be turned into a dressing room, laundry room, linen room, workshop, library or home office.

If the area of your pantry is very small, then you need to thoroughly work on its arrangement, applying the main principle: each thing has its place! If there is no such room in your apartment, it should be done.

The first option for creating a do-it-yourself pantry is to separate in the corner of the largest room of 2–4 square meters using plasterboard partitions. The second option is the arrangement of an existing niche. The third option is to cut unnecessary space at the end of a long corridor. The required area is fenced off with plasterboard sheets, a door is cut through one of them. From above, you can create mezzanines, and place shelves, racks or hangers inside, depending on the functional purpose of the pantry.

The main principle of the pantry: each thing has its place

An alternative to a full-fledged pantry is to equip shelves above doorways. Here you can store conservation, books, dishes and other items. Also in the role of pantry can be a spacious closet. If there is still space left after placing all the clothes, use it to place tools or small household items.

When you clean your house, think that you are shining on your soul.

Storage room equipment in houses of various types: Khrushchev, Brezhnevka, etc.

The most common housing are "Khrushchev", "Brezhnev", "Stalinist" and panel houses. In small-sized "Khrushchev" storage rooms were nevertheless provided. True, they were more like a closet in size. But this is a great reason to make a dressing room out of such a utility room!

The dimensions of the pantry in the "brezhnevka" are approximately 2.5x1x3m. From such a room you can also make a dressing room or a place to store household supplies.

From the pantry in the "brezhnevka" you can make a dressing room

In "Stalinka" often there are not one, but two whole pantries! Unfortunately, very often they are simply dismantled during repairs. But with a competent approach, these rooms can be equipped with a laundry room, a mini-garage, an office, and a dressing room.

A pantry, or a closet in a panel house, can be used both for its intended purpose, that is, for storing various things, and converted into additional living space by arranging a mini-study here.

Design options depending on the purpose

The pantry room can be used for various purposes: arranging linen, placing clothes, household chemicals, detergents, organizing a workspace, storing food, etc. Depending on the purpose, various materials are used for pantry equipment, but they must be budgetary and durable (painted plaster, plastic panels, paper wallpapers, linoleum, laminate). And the design direction of the utility room should match the style of the adjacent rooms.

Doors are best made sliding, hiding in a box, or like a compartment. Such doors will help save space inside and outside the premises. But if a hinged design is used, additional shelves, hooks or special holders for storing clothes, mops, kitchen towels, etc. can be placed on the inner surface of the door.

Some items common to pantries for any purpose will help you use this place with maximum convenience. Such items include shelves and racks, which are very easy to make with your own hands, as well as a mobile ladder or stool for getting things from the topmost shelves located under the ceiling.

Laundry closet layout

If the bathroom in your apartment is not large enough, but there is a pantry next to it, turn it into a laundry room by placing a washing machine, dryer and ironing board there. By the way, a folding ironing board can be placed on the door.

To finish the walls, floor and ceiling in the laundry room, it is better to use inexpensive moisture-resistant materials: linoleum or floor tiles, water-based paint for the ceiling, PVC wall plates.

Proper placement of the washing machine and ironing board in the pantry

Storage of clothes, linen

The pantry, located in the corridor, is best turned into a dressing room. Since this room is small, but still a room, it is recommended to use materials such as laminate, wallpaper, plastic panels for its decoration. The door of the pantry-dressing room should fit into the interior of the apartment. To save space, you can equip it with a mirror.

All things will fit in the pantry-dressing room

Storeroom-workshop

From the pantry, located in the far corner of the apartment, you can make a home workshop. To do this, you need to build a worktop here, equipped with various devices, and place small cabinets and drawers for storing spare parts and hooks for hanging hand tools on the walls and doors.

As finishing materials, you can use wooden or plastic panels, tiles or linoleum, finishing plaster or paint, paper or vinyl wallpaper.

Your workshop will be completely different!

With the right approach, a small pantry can be turned into a cozy and stylish home office. To do this, you need to organize a workplace with a table top and a chair and take care of good lighting. To accommodate and store office supplies, a place under the ceiling, all kinds of organizers, cork and magnetic boards, and open shelves are used.

It is better to finish the office storage room as a living room: put a laminate or parquet board on the floor, paste over the walls with wallpaper or decorate with wooden panels, the ceiling can be whitewashed or painted. Small paintings or wall panels will help decorate the utility room-study.

In the pantry next to the nursery it is convenient to store the child's things. It can be outerwear, old toys, some pieces of furniture, such as a folding desk. For the design of the pantry used to store children's things, the same finishing materials are suitable as for the dressing room.

If the pantry in your apartment is located next to the kitchen, then it is best to use it for storing food and kitchen utensils, equipping it with high metal or wooden racks. But when turning the pantry into a place to store food, remember the following:

 • cereals and other bulk products should be stored in tightly closed jars to exclude the possibility of pests entering;
 • vegetables should be stored in well-ventilated boxes to prevent mold;
 • Detergents should be stored as far away from food as possible so that the food does not absorb the smell of chemicals.

To finish such a room, it is better to use practical and wear-resistant materials: linoleum or floor tiles, water-repellent paint, PVC or MDF wall panels. They are easy to install and very easy to clean.

Cereals and other bulk products should be stored in tightly closed jars.

If the pantry is located next to the hallway, you can make a mini-garage out of it. Of course, not for a car, but for storing bicycles, scooters and sledges. Personal vehicles are usually placed on the floor, and spare parts, various accessories and tools are stored on the shelves. It is possible to provide a structure on a steel base, which, if necessary, can be easily disassembled or extended.

How to equip an apartment with a universal storage room

But most often the pantry in the apartment is not functional, but universal. This means that everything is stored in it: from old suitcases to stocks of toilet paper. To equip such a room, the following elements are required:

 • corner shelves for seasonal shoes located at the bottom;
 • a section for a vacuum cleaner, suitcases, bags of cereals, bottles, buckets and other bulky items in the lower part;
 • medium shelves no more than 40 cm deep and in drawers for frequently used items (linen baskets, tools, household items, clothes, dishes, etc.);
 • segment with a bar for storing outerwear;
 • upper shelves for storing rarely used items (old children's things, toys, boxes with Christmas decorations, etc.);
 • mesh boxes for storing groceries;
 • hooks for rollers, scooters, sleds.
A movable ladder will help you get things from the upper shelves

Any inexpensive but wear-resistant materials are suitable for finishing such a room: linoleum, wallpaper, water-based paint, etc.

Ventilation, humidity, lighting

Ventilation, lighting and moisture control are important factors in the arrangement of the pantry.

Ventilation

Since pantries usually do not have windows, it is necessary to organize competent ventilation in this room. This can be done with a ventilation system that will help prevent bad odors and damage to things as a result of high humidity. To prevent insects from entering the vent, it should be covered with a mosquito net.

The ventilation system will help prevent unpleasant odors and damage to things.

Humidity

Moisture often accumulates in the pantry, which can spoil your products. Therefore, carrots, beets, potatoes and other waxes are best stored in metal mesh boxes. They are well ventilated and do not allow vegetables to grow moldy and rot. To ensure a flat surface, it is recommended to cover the bottom of the boxes with plywood, cardboard or plexiglass. Instead of boxes, you can use wicker baskets.

Lighting

An important element of any pantry is lighting, since this room, as a rule, does not have windows, and natural light does not penetrate into it. In this regard, it is better not to save on pantry lighting. Lamps with a power of 150 W will help you easily find the right thing. Good to see the contents of all shelves in all corners will also help LED strip or built-in spotlights. The original lighting will make the utility room more comfortable. You don’t have to worry about energy costs, since this room is not used so often.

Universal pantry in a niche

A pantry or storage room is a necessary and useful space. Unfortunately, it often happens that the owners simply turn it into a warehouse of old and unnecessary things. But if you do not want to repeat the mistakes, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with how to repair the floor in a storage room or pantry with your own hands (useful information is accompanied by photos and videos that will help you visually understand complex processes).

In a room such as a pantry, you can store household items, household appliances, cleaning products, etc. Well, if it is equipped with shelves and racks. They won't allow cluttering up the pantry. But, of course, you should not rely only on them, therefore, so that a lot of unnecessary things do not accumulate in the closet, it is necessary to clean 3-4 times a year, thereby freeing up space for the necessary ones.

Undoubtedly, the presence of a pantry in an apartment or house significantly improves the life of the hostess. It is perfect for storing household chemicals, preparations for the winter, various seasonal items (skates, umbrellas, skis, etc.), tools, etc. And if in a spacious apartment you find a place for all this, using additional wardrobes, then a small apartment cannot do without a pantry.

How to repair the floor in a storage room, pantry with your own hands: photos and where to start

First of all, you need to free the storage room from old things, up to various shelves, hooks and temporary nails, which, as a rule, are installed in haste. Before us opens up a fairly spacious room for a dressing room about spaciousness, which we did not even suspect. For a competent arrangement of the pantry at the initial stage, it is necessary to bring the floor, walls and ceiling to an acceptable state and replace the door. Moreover, the repair of the floor in the pantry should be carried out last. For it, a self-leveling floor is often used with further laying of carpet.

Regardless of what materials you decide to use when renovating your pantry floor, you should stick to the same goal - to make the dressing room dry and bright. To maintain a favorable microclimate, ventilation holes are mounted in the storage room. As a rule, there is no lighting in the old pantry, so for a full and comfortable dressing room you will need a light source.

Do-it-yourself floor repair in the pantry (clothing room): photo and floor leveling

In the modern world, a huge number of building materials are offered, through which you can easily level the floor. Therefore, the process of leveling the floor has become quite real.

Before you start any work, you need to decide how much the floor will deviate from the norm, if you notice significant shortcomings, do not rush to destroy everything around. It is important to say that floor leveling technology is very different, a variety of building materials can be used. For example, leveling a wooden floor does not imply tearing off the old coating, but simply leveling the floor with special boards applied to plywood.

Another method should be used to level the floor for tiles and linoleum - in such cases, special mixtures are used. These mixtures are used if it is necessary to level the concrete floor when a screed is made, but in small sizes.

When choosing materials for repairing floors in the pantry with your own hands, it is important to consider their advantages and disadvantages, as well as to make the right preparation. Do not forget that leveling the floor takes a lot of time, so take your time, because your careless actions can ruin everything. This is directly related to the fact that the leveling compounds dry out for a rather long time, which can cause distortion of a flat surface.

To complete the job, you will need equipment such as special leveling beacons, which allow you to achieve a perfectly flat surface.

For the restoration of the floor in the clothing room, mixtures are not always used. For example, leveling a wooden floor with plywood is also considered an effective method, but it is not used so often.

Leveling compounds on the market offer many advantages. For example, they allow installation on any surface and have high strength. Although there are disadvantages, such as a difficult pouring process and a long drying time. Due to the fact that floor repair is a laborious and complex process, not everyone will be able to do it. We recommend that you evaluate your abilities and, if necessary, contact specialists.

Do-it-yourself floor repair in the storage room (pantry): the choice of floor materials

Tile or linoleum is often chosen as a floor covering for a storage room or pantry. Parquet or laminate will not be appropriate here. The very technology of installing floor covering directly depends on which type you have chosen. For example, when using a tile, its installation can be performed on a finishing layer of a cement-sand mixture. In some cases, such tiles are laid with liquid nails or glue on the surface of the finished floor. In addition to the floor, tiles are laid on the walls and ceiling of the storage room. Having decided to use parquet, you can fix it on the base of the floor using special glue. For pantries it is worth buying a special class of linoleum. When repairing the pantry with your own hands, in accordance with the rules indicated above, you will not have problems with the shelf life of food, but at the same time it will save your family budget. In addition, by adhering to the rules and regulations, you can increase the duration of use of the premises, reduce the number of repairs that will be needed to improve technical operation.

Attention! Floor materials for the pantry should be durable, budget-friendly and harmoniously combined in design with the rooms nearby.

So, the advantages of certain materials for the floor in the pantry:

 1. Ceramic tile.

Today, ceramic tile is often used in pantries and is a suitable flooring material for such a space.

Advantages:

 • hardness (many types of tiles are able to withstand loads of several thousand tons);
 • long service life (about 50 years with good handling);
 • moisture absorption, the tile does not slip if it has a resistance of 8 points;
 • resistance to chemicals and temperature extremes;
 • hygiene (microbes avoid tiles, you don’t have to worry about the formation of fungus);
 • ease of maintenance.

Flaws:

 • coldness (although it is unlikely that you will go into the pantry too often);
 • high strength does not guarantee its complete safety, and if handled carelessly, you can easily cause significant damage to the material.

How is laying tiles on the floor in the pantry

To correctly lay the tile, you need to correctly perform the base for it. We will show you instructions that can easily perform such care.

 • Ceramic tiles are laid on a fairly thick layer of adhesive (although you can get by with a thin layer with a perfectly smooth floor). Do not dilute too much glue mixture, as it may disappear. First, apply glue in the corner of the room to a small area and lay a few tiles, wait until the glue hardens.
 • Tiles are laid on one level. To do this, divide the floor into small sections, and then separate them with wooden slats. Tiles must be laid level, the layer is measured by the thickness of the mortar (approximately 3 cm). The accuracy of laying must always be checked by level, removing excess glue before it hardens.
 • Lay tiles on the floor before everything is filled in, apart from the thin strips.

You can step on the tiles only after 2-3 days, but upon completion of laying, do not forget to lay the extreme rows and fill the seams.

 1. Linoleum.

We can say with confidence that linoleum, which is often called PVC coating, is one of the most common floor coverings in a storage room.

Advantages:

 • ease of care and unpretentiousness in operation;
 • cost savings (artificial linoleum is sold at affordable prices, which makes it especially attractive in the repair of storage rooms);
 • high moisture resistance;
 • low slip;
 • high-quality PVC coating is not afraid of scratches or dirt, it has good wear resistance;
 • linoleum almost does not fade, the colors remain saturated for many years;
 • no need for a special protective coating.

Flaws:

 • an unpleasant smell when laying linoleum within two weeks after laying it;
 • when walking in shoes with black soles, traces and stripes can remain that are difficult to remove, and sometimes even impossible.

The disadvantages include the need for floor screeds, but today almost none of the modern floor coverings can be laid on an unprepared surface.

Laying linoleum on the floor in the pantry

Installation of linoleum on a wooden base can take place in the following ways:

 • without fixing - a suitable option for placing a small area. Linoleum is fixed by means of skirting boards around the perimeter of the room;
 • using double sided tape. This method is ideal for small spaces such as a pantry. First, the fixing material is glued with one side to the wooden substrate. On top of the adhesive tape, linoleum is laid in the form of a roll, with one edge of the coating remaining free. As the roll unwinds, the protective paper is removed from the top of the tape. Each glued area is pressed as tightly as possible to the floor;
 • glue landing. This method is the most reliable and guarantees reliable fixation of linoleum. You can choose an adhesive based on the class and type of flooring substrate.

Flooring is carried out only on a well-prepared floor, high-quality parquet, which in the future lost its decorative characteristics, but retained its former strength, as well as on plywood flooring.

Nowadays, these are the two most common options for finishing floors in a pantry or storage room. Carefully read the advantages and disadvantages of flooring, as well as technology, and make the right choice.
