"The knight takes a breath and asks God for help"

This card means the meaninglessness of the fight. Minor Arcana Tarot card Four of Swords means stagnation; solving problems by confronting other people is currently impossible. In this article we will look at the description and meaning in relationships of an upright and inverted card, interpretation and combination with other cards in layouts for love, health, career and work.

The Four of Swords advises you to calm down and relax; your attempts to change something will still lead to nothing.

Description of the map

The image of Arcana is a knight lying on a gravestone with his hands folded in prayer. The three swords above it correspond to the fourth, fifth and sixth chakras - in accordance with Masonic tradition.

Their points point downwards, pointing to the head, heart and throat, corresponding to the wounds of the builder of Solomon's Temple, Hiram Abiff. These three directions correspond to the traditional formula of repentance: “thought, word and deed.” Here a person learns what he lacked: harmony, justice, a correct assessment of what is happening.

General meaning of the Four of Swords card

The card symbolizes peace and detachment, the absence of fuss. The Four of Swords of the Tarot is isolation and solitude, delay and withdrawal. No progress in business. A person should use time to rest, analyze the situation, restore strength and health, and plan for the future.

The card indicates incapacity, including for medical reasons. Therefore, the Four of Swords is not a particularly good card. A person constantly needs a flow of knowledge and events, vanity, some kind of adventure. But each Arcana brings its own lesson, in this case the card marks the “squirrel in the wheel” that fell out of it.

Most people experience shock and dissatisfaction, only occasionally they want to abandon all matters and be alone. However, this is a necessary break in order to rethink what is happening. You can plan actions for the future alone, prepare your thoughts for new events.

The Four of Swords is a stagnant card; it forces you to interrupt your activities and retreat to peace. These are obstacles that are understandable and easy to solve, and do not require additional effort from a person. Illness is one of the meanings of the card; a person is forced to stop vigorous activity due to poor health in order to understand himself within himself. At the same time, he understands that he would not be able to voluntarily arrange this break for himself.

The Four of Swords always has power. It falls to people who have experienced confusion and stress, and they need a reboot, self-care, the ideal would be to send them on vacation. Timely care can help a person understand the current circumstances, but if it is not planned, it will be perceived as a misunderstanding.

The card explains that there is nothing in the world that would be worth a person’s strength; it is important to use periods of solitude to restore energy. Four of Swords Tarot card has the following meaning: planning actions for the future, external passivity, reflection, analysis, solitude.

A person is faced with a certain problem that he will have to solve using strength, energy and intelligence, and life experience. The older meaning of the card is exile, imprisonment, refuge, refuge, exile.

Personal Description

Passivity and inertia. Perhaps this is due to fatigue or illness, but it can also be calm, useful reflection, a pause to express creativity. It is important to use a productive break to recuperate and plan for future work, reflecting deeply on the challenges that may arise.

Positive features

Renunciation of vanity and problems, returning to your inner self, solitude, relaxation, inner balance, meditation, contemplation, spiritual practices. A person withdraws from the struggle with the outside world in order to heal. Just like all Fours, the card carries stabilization and stopping. Most likely, after the Three of Swords, this recovery occurs after severe stress, fear or pain, something that has exhausted the body and soul.

The map especially relates to churches and temples. It describes a person who is looking for redemption and communion, who sincerely repents, ponders his past life, and makes plans for the future. It marks rest, but not death, internal silent suffering, forced peace, self-knowledge and solitude, renewal of the soul through suffering.

Negative traits

The Four of Swords can show a person from the awkward side, alienated, weakened, constrained, characterized by emotional and physical weakness.

Questions from visitors and answers from experts:

On a deeper level

The Four of Swords personifies the lack of activity when “the sword has already been swung.” In astrology, this is the 12th house, through which a person comprehends what happened before, realizes his place in this world, and contemplates the present. Outwardly, he is less active so that no one around him distracts him from an important activity.

A person is given time and space to be alone, look at the true cause of current situations, and prepare for future events. The astrological XII house promises healing of old wounds and atonement for karmic transgressions.

The preceding Arcanum is the Three of Swords, which is the Lord of Pain caused by surrounding people or people. The solitude into which a person goes can be deeply internal and spiritual, but it can also be expressed externally, for example, imprisonment.

Monastery, Prison or Hospital is an ancient description of the 12th house. The pause that a person has come to is forced and unplanned, but it is for the sake of peace and restoration of the soul, purification of consciousness, peace, for the sake of a better life in the future. The symbolism of the Arcana is perceived negatively; a person tries to break free, but nothing works.

External circumstances are a reflection of the inner world; the real obstacles are inside a person and prevent him from achieving his goals. The Four of Swords and the XII house create a strong magical space in which the human soul undergoes transformation.

The Four of Swords relieves suffering and focuses attention on personality problems. By closing a person from the outside world, the card, as it were, checks what role awaits him in the future. Will he continue to fight because he has learned a life lesson, or will he fail because he is unprepared.

A person examines himself. Causes always have consequences. The map shows the connection with the internal conductor, access to information channels of energy. In this case, there is an opportunity to plan, work through, and think. Imprisonment should be used to come to your senses.

Libra of the third decade rules this card, it most clearly represents partnerships and relationships. In this decade, the concepts of goodness and justice, morality and optimism, a sense of humor and an attentive attitude towards people are important. The ruling planet Jupiter adds agreement here.

This decade tends to see harmony in the world, often turning a blind eye to the fact that not everything has been done and more effort is required. Representatives of the third decade should listen more to their inner voice and specifically express their ideals.

The meaning of the Four of Swords in various layouts

For career and work

A lull in business, a respite, a vacation, retirement or retirement, a refusal to fight. The thief should suspend the implementation of all plans, not launch new projects, and leave everything in its place. Theft and embezzlement, unaccounted for circumstances (financial losses, risks), professional burnout, exhaustion.

If a person is outwardly inactive, he may still be working internally and planning things for the future. In order to plan everything carefully, you need peace and solitude, giving up a place in the sun. Self-isolation and rest, competent analysis of what is happening, refusal of initiative.

On the one hand, this is recognized as resignation and exhaustion, retreat and failure of self-control, but on the other, it may simply be neutrality. At the same time, the person does not finish his business, he simply pauses it for a while to understand the situation.

Such a case looks like inertia and inaction, forced, lack of dynamics, but at the same time it means recovery, saving energy, accuracy, and quick changes in the future. This time is used to think and develop a better approach to the situation.

But the card warns: you may not be able to return to the pedestal right away; rash actions will lead to the same outcome (the Five of Swords symbolizes this).

Sometimes the Four of Swords is interpreted as self-employment and working alone. It may be an indicator of unemployment or receiving help from legal and advisory specialists. The card represents professional areas that require accurate calculations, mathematical, technical and economic knowledge.

For finances and property

The card symbolizes detachment from problems related to property and money. It shows that a person has financial responsibility. It is necessary to survive the crisis period by freezing until better times. Loss of material assets.

At the same time, a person can make important and correct financial decisions, but only after a deep analysis of the situation. Among the meanings of the card, there are the following: favorable use of previous experience, ability to manage property, correct calculation, correct assessment of losses and profits, foresight, improvement of the financial situation, correctly made decision.

For love and relationships

The Four of Swords speaks of loneliness.

The Four of Swords Tarot meaning in relationships symbolizes temporary loneliness, but it can be prolonged. A voluntary break that a person took to understand himself. Forced alienation, when nothing depends on a person. Internal isolation, when a person himself does not understand how he came to this state.

Sometimes the card points to past events that are still connected to today. Therefore, a person refrains from relationships, since the past still reminds of itself. He is afraid that the same mistakes will be repeated, which will result in disappointment, pain, fear, betrayal. For such an interpretation, cards are needed that indicate this (Tower, Devil, Three and Five of Swords, Five of Cups).

But this does not mean that a person will not have a relationship, it’s just that at the moment he has a period of isolation, which is caused by past failures and quarrels with a partner, exhaustion and isolation. The Four of Swords provides an opportunity to calmly reflect on previous relationships, evaluate them calmly and rethink your actions.

In silence and tranquility you can heal the soul, heal wounds with time. A not too long pause in your personal life symbolizes awareness of the lesson and recovery of the soul. A period of lack of sexual life, forced pause, inaction. A person exists and understands reality, but at the same time, he treats everything cold-bloodedly and aloofly, without discussing the problem.

Many authors say that the Four of Swords represents truce. This explanation is also possible. The card indicates a lack of feelings and a desire to show them towards a partner, a lack of initiative, steps forward, a passive position.

For health status

Hospital stay, loss of mobility: sciatica, paralysis, major surgery, coma. In a reading with nearby negative cards, it can indicate a fatal outcome. Complete exhaustion of strength.

The Four of Swords symbolizes the early stage of motherhood, when a woman's health is not fully restored after childbirth, and she is absorbed in the baby. Supposedly she “died to the world.” Also recovery from illness, passive rest alone, a period of regeneration of strength.

This is a card of healing, but only when a person is in isolation. Sometimes this card is explained as a tendency towards depression and suicide, as well as damage or waste of energy, which leads to loss of vitality.

You should calm down and go to the bottom. Take care of yourself, restore balance and harmony, give yourself a rest, reconsider your plans for the future, specifically describe your goals, weigh your strengths again. Refuse from disorderly actions and unnecessary waste of energy resources.

At the moment, you need caution, savings, prudence, introspection. You shouldn’t get into trouble, everything will happen as a matter of course. But this is not the time to sleep or sit idly by. You need to pay attention to your health to avoid problems in the future.

The meaning of a reversed card

The Four of Swords reversed has a positive meaning, for example, a release from imprisonment, recovery from a long illness. Resumption of actions and return to previous affairs. The best of all card meanings is moving forward, which is very valuable after a long period of absence.

But still, sometimes a card in an inverted state means slackness, delay, lag, mobilization of forces for some business, disruption of peace and rest, which is now necessary. Bad dreams, insomnia, illness. Late timing due to carelessness in planning. It’s worth stopping here and thinking about things before rushing into battle to restore what was lost.

The principle of the reversed Four of Swords is that everything should be at the right time and in the right place with the right people. The same principle is followed by Cancer and its ruling planets: Jupiter, Mars, Moon, Saturn. Mars in Cancer shows inaction, frozen inside. The Moon represents motherhood and restoration. Jupiter means the protective actions of fire.

Also, an inverted card is associated with greed, selfishness, envy, minor failures, and collapse of plans. Ancient meanings: restraint, foresight, testament, economy, gradual replenishment of what was lost.

Combined with other cards

How is the Four of Swords interpreted in combination with other cards:

  • With the Magician - an incentive to take active action;
  • With the Priestess – detachment, rest, the need for internal work on one’s consciousness, calmness;
  • With the Hermit - withdrawal from the outside world and people around;
  • With the Wheel of Fortune - rapid events that cannot be overcome;
  • With the Hanged Man - lack of active actions, emphasis on spiritual restructuring, redemption;
  • With Death, Ten of Swords - a dangerous disease or a clear threat to life;
  • With the Tower, Four of Pentacles - prison;
  • With the Ten of Wands - taking a high bar, which is currently beyond one’s strength, leads to illness;
  • With the Knight of Wands (woman) - will be abandoned;
  • With the Four of Cups - solitude, contemplation, risk of depression;
  • With the Six of Swords - refuge, refuge, has a funeral combination;

This card signals a time-out like a referee on the field. Her main message is the pointlessness of fighting at the moment. Forcing events or confronting other people is now not only inappropriate, but also practically impossible. All attempts to dramatically change the existing order of things will lead to nothing. This card always involves a delay.

The Four of Swords is a card of peace and detachment; it absolutely excludes vanity. Its main meanings are solitude and isolation, exile and retreat, respite and temporary care. There is no progress in business. Her main advice is to use this time to rest, reflect on recent situations, regain strength and health, and plan more wisely for the future. This card responds extremely accurately to a state of incapacity - in a wide variety of meanings and manifestations, from subtly psychological to completely medical cases.

The Four of Swords is considered to be, if not “bad,” then “not particularly good” card. The reason for such an assessment is most likely that the consciousness of Western man is generally very vain, the state of inaction and contemplation is alien to him and has a depressing effect on him - what kind of prostration is this? Our consciousness as a whole is focused on more or less productive activity, circulation in the flow of events and activities, accelerating the progress of things, it constantly requires some kind of “action”, like a squirrel in a wheel.

Each Arcana brings its own experience and its own lesson. In this case, it is the experience of a squirrel that has fallen out of a wheel (sometimes literally into sediment). For most people, this is displeasure and shock, and only in rare cases is this card rejoiced as an opportunity to detach, collect thoughts, be alone with oneself and take a breath. This is a precious respite, a much-needed time-out now, a granted refuge from the hustle and bustle, even if the person himself painfully experiences them as an exile, what is called retreat. But those who find themselves in the midst of hard work usually perceive the Four of Swords as manna from heaven. It is not for nothing that in the old days this card was called “the small mercy of Swords” - they are at rest. This is planning actions in hermitic solitude, preparing consciousness for a new round.

The Four of Swords is a card of stagnation, interrupted activity and forced rest. In this meaning, it resembles the Hanged Man card, but its difference from it is that it is associated with specific events: the obstacles or difficulties pointed out by the Four are usually simple and understandable, and overcoming them does not require us to overturn all the foundations of life. This position is akin to illness, which is also one of the meanings of the card. We are forced to interrupt our active activities and take a break. Whether we suffer or try to use this pause to sort ourselves out depends only on us. At the same time, it is clear that we can use a pause to work on ourselves, but we would hardly arrange it for ourselves of our own free will.

The Four of Swords is neither a passing nor a random card. This is always a strong sign. Often it falls out after a period of confusion and stress, when a person simply needs to “comb his hair,” rest, recharge, take care of himself (and ideally, go on vacation). It is timely departure from the field that allows you to return to it, and the Four of Swords makes it clear that what is most needed now is solitude and calm. But for a person, this state often turns out to be unplanned, and therefore is perceived as an annoying dependence on circumstances.

The card says that since there is nothing in the outside world now that would be worth the efforts of the questioner, it makes sense to wisely use this period for internal integration and restoration. The surrounding maps will also give a lot of information about what preceded it and what will follow.

According to the Four of Swords, there is confident thinking, planning of future actions with external passivity, in more rare cases - a couple of sleepless nights over some project, when others disappear “from the radar screens”. Sometimes the card indicates that the questioner is faced with some kind of problem that he will have to think carefully about, using all his mind and life experience.

Traditional meanings of the Four of Swords are exile, imprisonment, exile, also refuge, refuge.

Meditative and inert. Perhaps the person is simply sick or tired, and therefore lay low. But it can also be calmness, useful reflections alone, a creative break. “Productive exile”, which becomes a period of recuperation and preparatory work for the future, deep thinking through issues.

The Four of Swords person may seem constrained and awkward, alienated and depressed, exhausted and weakened, he is characterized by physical and emotional isolation, the need to protect himself from the outside world.

Abstraction from problems and vanity, avoidance of corresponding emotions, return to oneself (especially in conjunction with the Hermit). Contemplation, solitude, restoration of internal balance. Meditation (its forms can be very diverse), relaxation, spiritual practices. In this card, a person moves away from pain and struggle to rest and heal. Like all Fours, it carries an impulse to stabilize and stop. The Four is preceded by the bitter Three of Swords, so most likely this is a recovery from a fair amount of stress, pain, fear, confusion, something that has exhausted the soul and body.

This card has a special relationship to churches and temples. It can describe the state of a person seeking redemption, forgiveness, communion, sincerely repenting, pondering his past life and developing a main line for the future. This card “loves” people who have battle incarnations in their karmic assets and who now live an emphatically quiet life, with an emphasis on the water trine of houses in the horoscope. In this regard, the images of the Waite deck are striking in their “hits”. The wave, on the crest of which the soul had once been, subsided, and for a time he was left without strength and without an active desire for a goal. It is characteristic that the halo of Jesus on the stained glass window, under which the knight rests, contains the word PAX - rest, peace. Yet Pax is not Requiem aeternam. This is rest, not death. This is the mystery of forced peace in solitude, self-knowledge and renewal through silent inner suffering. Temporary sleep of the once restless soul, latent period (“sleeping beauty”).

I can’t help but remember Anuka’s words at Peggy Guggenheim’s grave in Venice: “Here rests Peggy Guggenheim...Yeah, rests...Knowing her, he’ll rest and still give everyone a hard time!” This is the mystery of the Four of Swords.

This is one of the cards that shows that internal state of consciousness when the “sword” of various activities has been waved - it’s time to think about the soul. In astrology this is the 12th house. According to the XII house, a person contemplates and comprehends past experience and his place in the world, and his external activity is noticeably limited so that nothing distracts him from this vital activity.

He is given a place and time to be alone with himself, to see the true essence of past situations and to prepare for future events and experiences. The XII house is a place of healing old wounds, atonement for karmic debts and atonement for karmic crimes (it is not for nothing that the previous Arcanum is the Three of Swords, the Lord of Pain caused to us or caused by us). This imprisonment can be internal, spiritual, or maybe external - the Four of Swords is one of the strongest indicators of hospitalization and imprisonment.

Well, Prison, Hospital, Monastery - this is exactly how the XII house is described in ancient astrology. A forced long pause, “imprisonment”, a monastery of the spirit - you won’t leave until you pray. The higher forces “put it down” for the sake of peace, tranquility, restoration and purification of consciousness, in order to prepare for a new chapter of life. The symbolism of the Arcana is often perceived quite negatively; a person makes unsuccessful attempts to “open the ring”, “break free”, but that was not the case.

The true obstacles are inside, external circumstances are only a reflection of this. Both the Four of Swords and the XII house symbolize a powerfully protected magical space. It is not for nothing that it was given to a person from above, and it is not for nothing that it is so well protected - the soul goes through the science of its own suffering here, it is a tomb and a cradle at the same time, a place of accumulation, concentration and transformation, a very important transformation must take place in this enclosed space.

Let us remember the previous Secret - this is the Three of Swords. In the Four, relief from suffering occurs, grief heals itself, cosmic consciousness concentrates on the main problem of the individual, the main pain. It is this that locks a person in order to avoid premature defeat (and the ego can be indignant and protest). Whether we accept the lesson of the Four of Swords in full or insist on early release will determine what our role will be in the next Arcana - the Five of Swords. Will we be the one who wins the coming battle because we have gained spiritual maturity and strength, or the one who is defeated due to the unpreparedness and recklessness with which we hastened to get involved in a new fight (or drama).

On the Arcana we see a knight lying on a gravestone with his hands folded in prayer. The three swords above him correspond to the fourth, fifth and sixth chakras - in accordance with Masonic tradition, their points point to the head, throat and heart, which correspond to the places where the builder of Solomon's Temple, Hiram Abiff, was wounded. These three chakras also correspond to those mentioned in the traditional formula of repentance for sins: cogito, verbo et opere (“in thought, word and deed”). Jupiter in Libra teaches mercy and justice, harmony and impartiality in assessing current events, in a word, everything that our hero lacked so much in the past.

On a metaphysical level, the Four of Swords symbolizes constructive action, and not at all inaction. The hermit, locked in his cell and immersed in introspection and prayer, is not at all idle - he is very busy. By the way, we all know very well that in a state of intense internal busyness (focus on some thought or feeling), external busyness is unproductive - everything literally falls out of hand. This is “work in the hour of rest” - an internal search in the silence of the cell. The symbolism of the card is such that the attention of the person lying is drawn to three swords (spiritual, divine: they can also be interpreted as the “Three of Swords” - suffering experienced or caused in the past, perceived mistakes), and the fourth sword (earthly force) remains inactive.

In the space of the Four of Swords, a person passes some kind of exam to himself. At the level of Mercury, the stabilizing Four of Swords contains the entire pattern of the cause-and-effect structure of the world. Everything is conditioned by thought. The same causes have the same consequences. The card indicates a connection with an internal mentor, a guide (one of the roles of Mercury is a psychopomp, “guide of souls”), mediumship, access to some important energy-information channels. This is a retreat, a “planet in exile,” the need to reason, work through, and plan. This imprisonment must be used to come to one’s senses, analyze the experience and enter a new phase without repeating previous mistakes.

It is believed that the card corresponds to the third decade of Libra, which most fully represents the Libra idea of partnership - the idea of harmony in human relationships as an analogue of higher laws. This decade is characterized by the concepts of justice, goodness and morality, as well as calm optimism, a sense of humor and an attentive attitude towards people. This decade is ruled by Jupiter, who bestows those born in this decade not only with the above-mentioned advantages, but also with agreement (the case when only social norms serve as the criterion for judgment and the principle “as above, so below” is taken too literally).

This decade is also inclined to see only the highest harmony in the world, often turning a blind eye to the fact that the truth has not yet come to the world, and in order for it to become truly humane, one must work hard. Representatives of this decade, in order not to become a traitor to their own ideals, need to listen more often to the inner voice of their own conscience, but in order not to repeat the path of Don Quixote, they must specifically comprehend the implementation of their ideals. After an unsuccessful attempt to reach the number Three at the level of matter and, having “landed”, or more precisely, slammed onto the ground, the Force (understood metaphysically) finds an acceptable compromise in the form of a reliable and practical Four.

It is, of course, limited, but at the moment this does not really matter, since we are talking about a temporary respite before a new throw. At the level of the Four of Swords, a kind of rest occurs, a healing after the struggle of delusions associated with the Three of Swords. The ideal, of course, has not been achieved, God could not be brought to Earth, but the idol has already been sculptured, and the primary sympathetic connection between the deity and his earthly reflection has already been established. This is a moment of centering, clarity, spiritual cleansing, restoring balance.

Light and Shadow (advice and caution)

Advice: don’t get into trouble, calm down, lie low. Take care of yourself, stop and regain your balance. Give yourself a rest. Critically reconsider your goals and plans, weigh your strengths again. Refuse from active and disorderly actions, from spending any resources - monetary, nervous, and so on. Now more than ever, prudence, caution, and savings are needed. It is useful to conduct self-reflection to heal emotional wounds. The tranquility and hermitic period of life are shown. “Taste the silence,” take time for a break, and finally get some sleep. At the right time everything will happen by itself.

Warning: no time to sleep! Delay is like death. Sitting (lying) with folded arms will impoverish life to the point of indecency. At the same time, the card may indicate the need to pay close attention to your health in order to avoid serious problems in the near future.

A break in business, a time out. Calm. Vacation. Retirement or resignation. Temporary refusal to fight for a place in the sun. Trying to speed up the process and break through anything is useless. This card is a clear indication to freeze plans, refrain from starting new things and projects, and leave everything as it is. In modern tarology, two peculiar negative meanings are attributed to this card. The first is economic crimes (embezzlement, theft). The second is the lack of a real risk assessment when planning projects, underestimation of economic aspects, and financial losses due to ill-conceived decisions. If the question being asked is in any way related to this, they can be taken into account.

Exhaustion, professional burnout.

With external inaction, the card may indicate a period of intense internal work and careful planning, night vigils and reflection. To think through the situation and plan future actions, you need calm and solitude, a temporary refusal to participate in the race. Taking a philosophical position in relation to the enemy is coolness, refusal to fight, use force, self-isolation from some situation. Rest, wait, take a sober look at things, refuse “bleeding interactions”, and take initiative when you are powerless to influence anything at the moment. On the one hand, this is undoubtedly exhaustion and resignation, expulsion and retreat, recognition of a fiasco and inability to control the situation. On the other hand, this may be a completely conscious position of non-interference and neutrality.

This card resembles a revolutionary in exile. Lenin in Shushenskoye. "We'll take a different route." What was done before was not entirely effective; if you follow the same path again, you will again find yourself in the same situation. But careful planning will provide benefits in the future. This is work whose results may come later. But “Shushenskoye” still needs to be met - such a meaning of the card as expulsion, failure may also appear.

Forced stop of the project for the sake of accumulating resources (in this sense, the Four of Swords should not be confused with the Ten of Swords - this is not the end). Stuck case.

This is a situation of inaction, inertia, forced to sit with folded hands, no dynamics. On the other hand, this is recovery from clearly unhealthy behavior and the leitmotif of this change is economy of energy and caution. The card clearly indicates the need for a recovery period after the situation that has just passed (symbolically - the Three of Swords). This time should be used to think things through and develop a wiser approach. The map also contains a warning: do not expect a return to previous heights - they turned out to be not very good. If you strive for the same thing again, you risk once again finding yourself in the same unpleasant situation, and even worse (Five of Swords).

Sometimes the card indicates working alone, self-employment, and often night work (mostly passive, such as being on duty).

It is often an indicator of unemployment and may indicate receiving help from employment consultants, lawyers, etc., especially when surrounded by appropriate cards.

At the same time, it is believed that the card indicates those types of work and business that rely on accurate calculations and require good technical, mathematical or economic abilities (for example, bookkeeping and accounting).

Detachment from problems related to money and property. The card is especially indicative if it is known that the person has financial responsibility. Waiting for better times, freezing during a crisis. Material losses.

At the same time, the card is often credited with good economic thinking and the ability to make correct, informed decisions after careful analysis. Among its meanings there are such as: great knowledge concerning material issues and the ability to use them to increase wealth; using accumulated experience to improve the financial situation; the ability to manage one’s property, correct calculations, realistic assessment of profits and losses, prudence and forethought, economical actions; a decision made after careful analysis of available information.

This is a card of temporary loneliness, temporary detachment and temporary hermitage. These are temporary phenomena, but as a rule they are very long-lasting, and you should not expect them to end soon. The card can describe three qualitatively different states: 1) voluntary stay in one’s personal space, a time-out that a person took himself to put himself in order; 2) forced isolation, when he objectively lacks the ability to change anything; 3) internal confinement, for which a person cannot find an explanation; it is as if he is fenced off from the world by a glass wall, which he is quite tired of, but for some reason it turns out to be impossible to break through, and at this stage such is the will of karma.

And karma, as we know, is rooted in the past deeds of the soul. Sometimes the card indicates that the past has very great power over a person (and we can talk about both the events and attachments of this life, and about more distant times and connections). He professes solitude and refrains from building relationships because he remains there, and the ghosts of past feelings visit his soul like guests on Solaris. Sometimes this is the coldness of “got burned by milk” - a person is paralyzed by his fears caused by past difficulties in relationships, disappointments, pain, betrayal (as a rule, this requires some additional indications in the layout, and the Devil, the Tower, the Five of Cups are certainly indicative, Three and Five of Swords).
He gave up, abandoned his feelings, “buried himself alive.”

But he didn't die, and he shouldn't have said never. It's not forever, even if it's for a long time. This is exhaustion from stress, failures, quarrels with a partner. At the same time, the Four of Swords makes it possible, after a breakup, to more calmly evaluate the relationship and the decisions made then. The Four of Swords gives time to think and warns: until a person analyzes and rethinks his past actions, the future will remain “under lock and key” for him.

Through the Four of Swords, in silence and outer silence, the restoration of the tormented soul takes place, the healing of wounds by the almighty healer - Time. However, other healers can also help - for example, an intelligent psychotherapist. Being alone, a person rebuilds. He will build relationships differently when the time comes for this. Banzhaf writes, “This period of turning inward can lead to a beautiful, peaceful union, to the formation of a space in which both partners have the opportunity to express their feelings.” This pause in personal life, during which nothing happens, is essentially heart surgery under anesthesia, followed by recovery, the realization of a certain lesson.

Lack of sex, refractory period, inexcitability, exhaustion. “Nothing is happening,” a forced pause, something very earthly remains inactive, full of “half past six.”

This is an indication of a “living corpse” type of relationship - it seems to exist, but there is alienation and coldness. Problems are not even discussed. The breakup is coming without a scandal (due to the lack of emotions necessary for a scandal).

This card may indicate a lack of any feelings, a reluctance to take initiative and take any steps forward. The position on it is, to put it mildly, passive.

Long-term illness, or even hospital stay (in general, this card is an indicator of hospitalization). Loss of mobility for some reason. This could be an attack of radiculitis, a serious operation, paralysis, or coma. Surrounded by clearly negative cards (and if the essence of the issue suggests such a risk), it can also indicate death (traditional meanings are “coffin, grave”).

Complete exhaustion of strength.

According to the Four of Swords, there is an early phase of motherhood, when the woman herself has not yet fully recovered physically after childbirth, and is completely absorbed in the baby (“dead to the world”).

Recovery period. Peace after illness. Rest (passive and solitary). Slow recovery. The Four of Swords can be considered a card of healing - but one that happens little by little while the person is in prostration.

Occasionally, it may indicate depression and suicidal tendencies, as well as damage, a clear energy-informational disturbance leading to loss of vitality.

Sometimes a card carries a positive meaning of the end of a protracted isolation - this is a good indicator for a person to whom the Four of Swords has more than once shown itself in an upright position. But this doesn't happen so often. The period of peace and quiet is coming to an end; ahead is the need to return to current affairs. This could be a release from prison, recovery after a long illness.

Resumption of actions, return to previous interests, but more often than not, all this is untimely. The best that this card can give is a very restrained and cautious movement forward (which can be valuable after a period of complete stagnation), and this must be correctly understood. The Reversed Four of Swords is not the Chariot! Its progress is comparable to the progress of a patient who managed to be discharged from intensive care, and is already able to walk to the toilet on his own. Everything is learned by comparison, and the possibility of such a walk could be a global breakthrough.

Delays, lags, laxity or confusion of thoughts, inability to mobilize oneself for something. This is similar to the feeling of a person who is suddenly pulled out of meditation. Something is interfering with the much-needed rest right now, it’s not giving me peace.

Insomnia, bad dreams.

Short illness.

In the reversed position, the Four of Swords card means an untimely action and warns that actions must be very careful and planned. It’s time for a person to stop and think, but he rushes into battle, driven by the desire to restore what was lost. "The right action at the right time in the right place with the right people... leads to the right results" - the reversed Four of Swords symbolizes the neglect of this principle. Sounds Cancer and the planets associated with it - Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, Mars. Mars in Cancer is in decline, so the action seems to freeze, go deeper, and turn inward. The moon symbolizes restoration and motherhood. Jupiter, symbolizing the protective hypostasis of fire (the bright grave), in the inverted Four of Swords can give such a negative manifestation as tyranny.

Greed, envy, greed, petty jealousy can upset plans and cause minor failures.

Traditional meanings are forethought, restraint, economy, wise management, gradual replenishment of losses, testament.

With the Magician - awakening to activity

With the Priestess - emphasis on quiet rest, detachment, contemplation, the need to work on oneself in solitude

With a Hermit - going to a monastery (maybe to the inner monastery of the spirit)

With the Wheel of Fortune - incomprehensible rapid events

With the Hanged Man - a radical decrease in activity, a huge emphasis on redemption, spiritual restructuring

With Death, Ten of Swords - a possible threat to life, a dangerous disease

With the Tower, Four of Pentacles - prison.

With the Eight of Wands - the move will be made, this card weakens the influence of the Four of Swords

With the Ten of Wands - taking on an exorbitant load undermines health and will end badly

With the Knight of Wands (for a woman) - will be abandoned.

With the Four of Cups - contemplation, solitude, risk of depression

With the Six of Swords - a very funeral combination, the meaning of refuge and refuge (it is possible that the latter).

With the Eight of Swords - life abroad (again, there is a connection between the 12th house and emigration).

With the Seven of Pentacles, it enhances the importance of reassessing one’s activities and comprehending the results achieved.

Reversed with the Empress, Death, Tower - danger of ruin.

Inverted with a Star - prison.

Card of the day
The worst thing that can happen is complete stagnation in business, and you have a feeling of your own worthlessness and brokenness. But perhaps this will just be a delay in one of your tasks, or you yourself will want to postpone some task, because today you will not be able to do it. Even if such a break in business does not come entirely of your own free will, it can and should be used for reflection and relaxation.

Reversed card
Insomnia, bad dreams. Exit from imprisonment. Recovery after a long illness. Slow recovery. Caution in business. Will.

The Four of Swords depicts a deceased person in contrast to the bright and lively scene outside the window.
Someone decided to take a time out and take a break from the world.
Sometimes we respond to difficulties by running away or hiding in our shells.

Removing yourself from a situation can be healing if the goal is not to hide but to recuperate.
Problems arise only if the withdrawn person begins to completely cut himself off from communication with the world or to block the world from himself.

Questions to ask yourself if you draw the Four of Swords
  • What are you hiding from?
  • Have you taken a break?
  • Are you waiting for a deliverer?
  • Do you think about something carefully?
  • Do you feel cut off from the world, from the possibility of salvation?
Key Ideas
If you need to step away from troubles, make sure that you want to recuperate and not withdraw.

A strong removal can completely disconnect you from the world, cast a spell that you cannot break - only another person will be able to do this.
Make sure to find a balance between rest and work, reflection and action, contemplation and change.

Fortune telling in half a minute
Derek and his family have moved several times over the past three years.

Four swords indicate peace and recuperation after battle.
This card indicates that organization and order are necessary to regroup forces.
Rest.
Recovery.
Retreat.
The Four of Swords proclaims calm after the storm.

It points to the opportunity to take a well-deserved break after a fight and reload your guns, whether you choose to spend that time alone or be isolated by others.

In any case, this is exactly what you need.
In White's Universal Tarot, this card contains an image of a knight lying on his tombstone in a church with his hands folded in prayer.
Three swords are suspended above him, and a fourth is attached to the tombstone.

This whole scene is filled with a spirit of absolute stillness and peace.

Symbolism
The Four of Swords heralds a period of recovery from severe emotional or physical turmoil.
This often means spending time alone and contemplating to process the meaning of recent events.

We need to think things through and perhaps decide to end it all by retreating to a higher spiritual level or taking a temporary vacation.
Sometimes this card signifies recovery from illness and the need for recovery.

We need to gather our strength and try not to think about the recent difficult trials.
If they led to losses, then the Four of Swords proclaims a period of mourning, required in order to come to terms with the loss and continue to live.

No matter what we have been through, this card communicates that a period of solitude is required to prepare for new turns in our lives.

Interpretation
Choosing the Four of Swords means that a period of mental relaxation may be beneficial for you.

Maybe you've recently been sick and in a stressful situation, and this time off will allow you to regroup and sort out your emotional and physical needs.
You must restore your mental energy and physical strength, and the only way to do this is time.

This will be an excellent opportunity for you to calmly understand recent events and look at them from a new angle.
It is important that you do not try to engage in any other activity, such as tidying up the house.

Only in a state of complete peace will you be able to restore your balance and prepare for new battles.

The Four of Swords means that reflection and night vigils are needed, a recovery period is needed.

Inner meaning
Now you have to work through your problems and plan future actions.
You need solitude and peace; don't avoid them.

This is a map of reflections and night vigils; almost a hermit.
It also indicates the need for a recovery period after the situation you just went through.
Use this time to reflect on everything that has happened and plan more wisely.

Don't expect the heights you've enjoyed so far; as you have seen, they were not very good for you.
If you rush to the same heights again, you may find yourself in this unpleasant situation again.

Value in the layout
Direct or positive: loneliness and calm.
Exile, retreat, the need to think and plan.
Careful planning will give you an advantage over your enemies.

Recovery.
Alertness and caution; economy and caution; all this is needed now.
Reversed or negative: greed.
Bad dreams.
Perhaps a short illness or temporary financial difficulties.

Envy and petty jealousy, either on your part or on the part of others, can derail your plans.
The result is minor failures.

If the tension and suffering of the Three of Swords is not alleviated, in the Four of Swords it can have a negative impact on your health.
To avoid torment or simply to clear your thoughts, you may need solitude or sleep.

You want to stop fighting, take a break from stress, meditate, or just daydream.
On the card of the Waite-Smith deck, three swords hang on the wall, and the figure lies on the fourth.
This suggests that the work of organizing your own thoughts and arranging things in order of importance has begun to take up too much energy.

Put all your worries aside and let your subconscious mind calmly work on one single task.
However, hanging swords themselves can be a source of pressure and anxiety.
You may be going through a period of self-observation and introspection, writing down your dreams and thoughts, or being observed by others.

In the stained glass window, also depicted on the Waite-Smith deck card, the worshiper kneels before a figure whose head is surrounded by a halo with the inscription PAX (Peace), speaking of a peaceful mind.
These details may mean praying, asking for advice, receiving help from someone in authority - such as a doctor, lawyer, clergyman, guru, or directly from spiritual forces.

This card can also mean imprisonment, retirement and pacifism.
In some cases it can also mean death.
In one fortune telling, an elderly Russian lady, a mental worker, planned to commit suicide if she became too sick and weak to care for herself.

The theme of the stained glass window indicated her fervent desire for the children to understand her decision and come to terms with it.

Reversed Four of Swords
On the inverted Four of Swords of the Waite-Smith Tarot, it is clearly visible that the crossed swords of the Three are now arranged in a strict order.

Now the person seems to be looking at them from the ceiling - as if leaving the body during sleep or contemplation with spiritual vision.
You may awaken from a literal or metaphorical dream with a clearer vision or simply a different perspective on what is happening.

The period of peace and quiet is coming to an end, and you have to return to current problems.
Perhaps you are just recovering from an illness.
If this is not the case, think about it - perhaps you are refusing to seek advice or take care of yourself.

This card may also indicate that the querent has insomnia or is haunted by unpleasant dreams and cannot truly rest.
Perhaps the time of loneliness and isolation is ending and you are returning to the world.

In fact, this could also be a “getting out of prison” card - if that’s how you perceived this period.
You are ready to work again or you stop the activity that has led you to a dead end.
However, it may also be that the figure on the card falls directly onto the points of the swords.

You may feel helpless in the face of a serious dilemma or a victim of circumstances.
The traditional interpretation emphasizes caution.
With the help of prudence, prudent management and savings, you can avoid business losses, personal difficulties and illnesses.

When you project this card onto others, you see them as either too good or as frozen in their perfection, like the “now deceased Founding Fathers” or sleeping heroes waiting to awaken at the appointed hour.

Or they may seem withdrawn, ill, and unwilling or unable to help.
You may also feel sympathy for someone.
From a shamanic point of view, this is a card associated with dreams and the astral plane.

It indicates contact with inner mentors and guides or with any other figures of power, as illustrated by the stained glass scene of a kneeling worshiper.
Channeling and mediumship are also possible.

Traditional Reversed Meanings: saving, spending regulation.

Slow replenishment of losses.

Sympathy.
Greed, greed, stinginess.

Four of Swords - you need a break, recuperation.
Take a time out.
Now, figuratively speaking, the energy wave after the rise has subsided and has flown away, so your strength is exhausted.
Usually this card appears when a person is in a difficult situation and knows that the problem is still far from being resolved.

Attempts to dramatically change the existing order of things will not lead to anything yet, because you do not have enough energy.
Reversed - you can again begin to act actively and assertively, but first be sure to think everything through thoroughly.

It is possible to renew old connections.

Astrological meaning: Saturn in the 5th house as a symbol of a break in creativity or in the 6th house as a symbol of illness.
FOUR OF SWORDS The Four of Swords is a card of stagnation, interrupted activity and forced rest.

Truce Third decade of Libra from October 13 to October 23.
Astrological equivalents: Cancer, Mars, Moon, Houses Fourth and Seventh.
The third decade of Libra most fully represents the Libra idea of partnership - the idea of harmony in human relationships as an analogue of higher laws.

This decade also tends to see only the highest harmony in the world, often turning a blind eye to the fact that the truth has not yet come to the world, and in order for it to become truly humane, one must work hard.

Four is of course limited, but that doesn't really matter at the moment.
Since we are talking about a temporary respite before a new throw.

The Tarot card shows a figure lying on his back in a resting position.

Three swords hang on the wall, one nearby: the mind passively accepts the world as it is, but...
he is always ready to be fully armed.
Outside the window, against the backdrop of a noisy world, a man knelt before a woman: consciousness bowed to more refined feelings.

Straight position: In the upright position, the card symbolizes rest, recuperation, renunciation of struggle, loneliness, hermitage, exile, imprisonment, sleep of the once restless soul, latent period.

It must be remembered that the word “temporary” must be added to each of these concepts.
The Four of Swords is the small favor of the Swords: they are at rest.
The sword rests, for it has completed its task.
The knight sleeping on his bed has achieved something in life and tastes the fruits of silence.

The card can mean either work in an hour of peace (the spiritual search of the Hermit in a cell), or a moment of peace among hard work.
The Lying Knight, perhaps, is not sleeping, but praying; he is busy with spiritual activity.
On a metaphysical level, the Four of Swords symbolizes constructive action, will embodied in matter.

The hermit, locked in his cell and immersed in self-contemplation, is not at all idle - he creates.
Inverted position: When reversed, the Four of Swords card signifies an untimely action.

It’s time for a person to stop and think, but he rushes into battle.
"The right action at the right time in the right place with the right people...
leads to correct results" - The Reversed Four of Swords symbolizes neglect of this principle.

The theme of the Four of Swords is Cancer and the planets associated with it - the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, Mars.
Mars in Cancer is in decline, so action at the level of the Four of Swords seems to freeze, go deeper, and turn inward.

The moon symbolizes restoration and motherhood.
(Motherhood is generally one of the key words for the Four of Swords.) Jupiter, symbolizing the protective hypostasis of fire (the bright grave), in the inverted Four of Swords can give such a negative manifestation as tyranny.

The Four of Swords eliminates vanity.

In the chapel, on a tombstone, lies a living man in knight's armor with his eyes closed and his hands folded on his chest.
One sword is engraved on the side of the slab, the other three hang on the wall.
The only bright, bright spot on this map is the stained glass of the Gothic window depicting the holiday.

In some decks, he sits in a graveyard or simply in an open area, deep in thought.
The card symbolizes a person who has decided to withdraw from the world.
He gave up, abandoned his feelings, “buried himself alive.”

But he is alive, and his brain is full of thoughts, so his idea is doomed to failure.
There is no need to isolate yourself from the world, this card advises, it is better to get up and go outside, to the people who are waiting for you.
Thus, in the upright position, this Four recommends action, “going out to people.”

Inverted: On the contrary, he advises to postpone this: the time to act has not yet come.
In the “Egyptian Tarot” deck, four swords converge with their tips to one point, which gives it an additional meaning of reconciliation, truce (both in the upright and inverted positions).

[Description] The card contains an image of a knight (possibly deceased) lying on his back on his tombstone in a church with his hands folded in prayer. The knight decided to take a time out and take a break from the world. Three swords are suspended above him, and a fourth is attached to the tombstone: the mind passively accepts the world as it is, but it is always fully armed. [Traditional meanings] When the Four of Swords card appears in a reading, it may mean that you are in a state of recovery from illness or injury, a state of rest or respite. It portends a period of recovery after severe emotional or physical shocks. This often means spending time alone and contemplating to process the meaning of recent events. Now is your time to think, dream, introspect, and perhaps decide to end it all by retreating to a higher spiritual level or taking a temporary vacation. The card may hint at delays or the calm before the storm. It is likely that the current situation has deprived you of strength, and you have no choice but to pray and ask for help from above. Only in a state of complete peace will you be able to restore your balance and prepare for new battles.

The card reflects the need to retreat and protect oneself from the outside world. Since the ego has not yet realized that the true obstacles are inside, and external circumstances only confirm this, it climbs into the trenches and locks itself in order to avoid defeat. This is a map of reflections and night vigils; almost a hermit. The Four of Swords does not advise going to the same heights that you recently aspired to - they may not be the most suitable for you. Arcana Tarot Four of Swords: respite

What is the meaning of the minor arcana of the Tarot - 4 of swords?

The Tarot meaning of the 4 of swords can be either positive or negative. This card should be interpreted depending on the issue and situation. Let's consider the meaning of four in layouts and its manifestation with other Tarot symbols.

Upright and inverted 4 of swords

Upright

The card symbolizes a warrior lying on his deathbed. He is struck by enemies, but is still alive. Classic interpretation of the lasso: calm before the storm, temporary calm, rest, healing. On a deeper level, the 4 of Swords means loneliness, stagnation in business and a comfort zone. It shows that the person himself chose the path of retreat, while he dreams of a quick return to the battlefield.

In the upright position, this card calls for active action. It's time to come out of the shadows and start changing your current state of affairs. However, deciding on this is quite difficult. The stability that the 4 of swords speaks of is addictive, creating illusory well-being around a person. In fact, this stability plunges a person into a world of dreams and fears, preventing him from developing.

In the Thoth Tarot deck, the card symbolizes stopping, accumulation of strength, truce.

The 4 of Swords advises getting out of this state, but only after complete emotional and physical recovery. To come to your senses, it is recommended to change your environment, your social circle, and start doing things that give you strength and arouse sincere interest.

Inverted

The inverted lasso calls for not taking active actions in the near future and relying on circumstances. You shouldn’t go against the flow, it’s better to take a neutral position and watch what’s happening from the side.

The person described by 4 swords is weak physically and mentally. His strength has dried up, he is indifferent to everything. In such a state it is dangerous to undertake anything and make decisions. It is better to focus on your inner peace and health.

The map clearly indicates events that influenced the questioner. They were probably so unexpected and negative for him that they resulted in complete burnout and exhaustion.

The 4 of Swords does not encourage you to plunge back into familiar reality. On the contrary, she gives advice to lie low, listen to yourself and plan your next steps. Arkan speaks of the need to reconsider your past behavior, draw the right conclusions and change your attitude towards yourself, the people around you and the situation.

Interpretation in layouts

The meaning of the 4 of swords may vary slightly depending on the question of the fortuneteller. What significance does the card acquire in readings for personal life, health, situation and career?

Health

In health fortune telling, the interpretation of the 4 swords should be carried out based on the situation of the questioner. This card can promise either complete recovery or a critical condition.

The traditional interpretation of the card is coma, immobility, sciatica, hospitalization, hospital ward. The appearance of this lasso in a reading most often means an unexpected blow, deterioration in health, paralysis, or loss of capacity. If the 4 of swords lies in fortune telling with negative cards, then this is a bad sign, promising death.

Another meaning of the card is exhaustion, burnout, lack of strength. The card shows that the person is at a low energy level. If this card falls to a woman, then most often it represents the time after childbirth, when the mother is completely absorbed in caring for the baby.

Sometimes 4 swords may indicate damage, thoughts of death, loss of vitality. If an inverted card appears in fortune telling, this indicates a gradual restoration of a person’s energy potential.

Love

If the 4 of swords appears in a love divination, then this indicates a crisis in the relationship. This lasso symbolizes reticence, lack of trust and escape from problems. The partners are not ready to sort things out and open up to each other at the moment. Everything leads to a breakup, quarrels and betrayal of one of the partners.

Map indicates that a serious conflict is brewing in the couple. Old grievances, omissions, mutual claims - all this can instantly make relationships cold and lovers strangers to each other. The right solution in this situation is to talk openly about family problems and come to a common decision together.

Relationship problems indicated by the 4 of Swords are temporary.. The crisis situation will soon pass, but for this the lovers must make an effort. If neither of them takes the initiative, the relationship will most likely collapse.

If the question concerns a new partner, then the lasso speaks of the passive development of relations. Most likely, due to their own fears or doubts, partners will not be able to build strong love bonds. The card can also indicate a partner’s lack of interest and indifference.

In an inverted position lasso speaks of postponed conversation, hiding secrets and mistrust.

Fortuneteller's question

The dropped Four of Swords in a fortune telling about a situation indicates temporary calm and tranquility. However, the questioner’s thoughts are occupied with further plans. The Arcanum shows that in the current situation it is necessary to follow the arguments of reason, and not feelings. Now it is important to gather your thoughts, accumulate enough internal resources for further struggle and implementation of plans.

If the card comes out upside down, then it is speaks of a reluctance to leave the comfort zone.

Career

In a career scenario, 4 swords predicts stagnation in the professional field. The card speaks of the lack of prospects, the passivity of the questioner, and lack of time to implement projects.

Also, the lasso can show the isolation of a person from the team. The questioner will not have to stay in this position for long, since he will soon decide to change jobs or begin to actively move up the career ladder in the place where he already works.

Inverted, this Tarot symbol indicates instability, poor financial situation and routine work. The questioner is in a position where he has no control over anything. There is no need to take any action or try to get out of the situation just yet. For now, it’s best to go with the flow, gain strength and make further plans.

4 (Four) of Swords meaning in Tarot cards, in relationships, in love, in work

In the foreground is a knight's tombstone, very typical of England in the 14th-15th centuries. Many such tombstones have survived and survived to this day. Moreover, it is even known which specific tombstone served as the prototype for Pamela Coleman Smith in her work on this map.

The background of the map is clearly divided into right and left halves. The central place on the left side of the picture is occupied by a stained glass window. It is difficult to understand who exactly is depicted on the stained glass window.

However, it is known that Pamela was inspired by the stained glass window of the church in Winchelsea, where the word "Peace" - "Pax" - depicted near the Virgin Mary.

The right side is occupied by the image of three Swords. Moreover, their gray color suggests that these are not real swords, but bas-reliefs.

You should pay attention to an almost imperceptible detail in the center of the map: the head of a bull at the base of the slope of the stained glass window.

Meaning in relationships

Now let’s look at the interpretation of the meanings of the Tarot card 4 (Four of Swords) in relationships and love.

The card suggests that a person needs solitude. He does not cut off contacts with the outside world, but at the moment it is very important for him to be alone. Only in solitude does he feel safe. The 4 of Swords represents a kind of refuge.

It is very important not to force a person out of the shelter. The time will come, and he will come out of it himself. But those who do not understand this risk ruining their relationship with this person.

Open - hole card

The 4 of Swords is definitely a hole card. A person is focused on his inner work, whatever it may be. And he is not interested in either old or new relationships at this moment.

Relationship intensity

There is very intense work going on inside a person. But this has nothing to do with relationships.

Relationship scenario: love, family, relatives, work

"The subscriber is temporarily unavailable." The key word is temporary. Sometimes, however, the situation reaches the point of absurdity, and people hide in their tower or in their cave for so long and feel so comfortable there that they simply do not want to leave.

A person at 4 of Swords behaves in such a way as to reduce the number of points of contact with other people to an absolute minimum. It doesn't matter if it's family, friends or work.

Loneliness. A person feels the need to be alone. He does not permanently cut off contacts with the outside world, but at the moment he is temporarily withdrawing from the world. The emotional state is very similar to that of a wounded animal that retreats into a hole in order to focus on its recovery while feeling protected and safe.

J. Gray in the book “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” describes the need to stay in a cave as absolutely normal male behavior.

Importance in health matters

A person is weakened after a serious physical illness. But the crisis has already passed, and recovery has begun. The card indicates the need for bed rest or treatment and rehabilitation procedures.

Although the physical body is still weak, the spirit has already recovered. And the restoration of the body is only a matter of time.

Ways to Increase Income (Key to Increasing Income)

The map directly indicates an increase in income. The very beginning, the first drops of rain. The beginning of a natural, progressive, positive process, when all previous actions were correct and proportionate. The preliminary work is completed and the process has started. The task is to give up the fuss and implement the further plan.

However, the card sets a number of conditions for receiving income - do not tell anyone about your intentions, do not share information, do everything yourself. Even help provided with the most sincere intentions will be useless at best, and harmful at worst.

General state of finances and trends of changes

The main idea of the 4 of Swords is that the financial situation is beginning to improve. The position in which it stabilizes will be better than the position from which you started.

The map does not say how much or how little money you have at the beginning of the journey; moreover, right now there may be none at all. But the money begins to accumulate and be collected, step by step, penny by penny.

The process has only just begun, but it is already accelerating.

A thin rope for mooring a ship.

Positive and negative impact on income

Your situation is starting to improve - this is good news. With a passive approach, the sheer confidence that everything, albeit slowly, is working has a very positive effect. The card also has a positive effect on those who prefer to work alone, not depend on collective decisions, and answer only to themselves.

“You just need to learn to wait” is, of course, good advice, but sometimes the lack of quick and visible results can negate all preliminary efforts. Reading the meanings of Tarot card 4 (Four) of Swords, in matters of work, intellectual actions are much more important than physical ones.

Outwardly, it seems that nothing is changing, and this is an unpleasant, destabilizing moment.

What your mind says is more important than what your environment says.

Interpretation and meaning of Tarot:

Tarot cards are a powerful tool that allows you, through understanding archetypal symbols, to come into contact with the secret hidden at the subconscious level. This article provides a detailed description of one of the minor arcana - the Four of Swords. In various versions of the Tarot, this suit also goes by the following names: Blades, Swords, Knives, Daggers.

Short description

In classic decks, the “4 of Swords” card depicts a man dressed in knightly armor. He lies on the tombstone, in complete peace, his eyes are closed, and his hands are folded on his chest in a prayer position.

One sword is engraved on the front panel of the tomb, and three other blades are found on the wall. Also visible in the background is a stained glass church window. In some versions of the Tarot, it depicts the face of the Virgin Mary.

Most likely, the knight is in the premises of a temple or chapel.

Interpretation of the map

In almost all matters, the above-mentioned lasso personifies stopping, procrastination, and inertia. However, it is important not only to know the symbolism of the arcana, but also to feel the meaning of the Tarot cards. The Four of Swords in love speaks of indifference or loneliness.

In matters related to professional activities, education and creativity, she warns that it is best not to take any important actions in the near future. And in matters relating to spiritual development, the card can mean meditation, a state of prayer, hermitage and departure from the bustle of the world.

Professional activity

The meaning of the Tarot “Four of Swords” in career matters implies a temporary lull, suspension and stagnation in business. In some cases, this lasso may foreshadow dismissal, retirement or retirement. But perhaps we are talking about a vacation.

If the question was asked regarding a creative project, upcoming negotiations, or the start of a new business, then the appearance of “4 Blades” in the scenario is far from the best sign. The card warns that it is undesirable to make plans or take any serious actions in the near future. Most likely, attempts to move up the career ladder will not be successful.

In some cases, the card talks about emotional burnout. At this stage, you should reconsider your plans and think about the appropriateness of the methods used.

In financial matters, the “4 of Swords” suggests that in the near future the most rational solution in a difficult situation will be saving. For those who are looking for work, the above card does not foretell employment in the near future. The interpretation of neighboring cards in the layout will help to understand the direction of action and prospects.

The meaning of the Tarot “Four of Swords” in the layout for relationships with a team or business partners implies a lack of interest, ease in business and a lack of inspiration for the successful implementation of creative projects.

A card in an inverted position encourages action. The period of calm has lasted too long, and in order to get out of this state, you need to gather all your strength and make a breakthrough. You may have to leave your familiar environment, get out of your comfort zone and find a new path.

Interpretation and meaning of the Tarot “Four of Swords” in matters of love and relationships

The appearance of this suit in scenarios concerning love relationships is far from the best sign. Most likely, this indicates some difficulties and obstacles that arise between people.

The meaning of the Tarot “Four of Swords” in love implies loneliness, fatigue and coldness. This condition can last for a very long time.

If the questioner has recently experienced a breakup with a loved one, the current period of loneliness is necessary in order to rethink everything and sort out their feelings.

As soon as a person manages to learn the lesson life has taught him, he will begin to have a different attitude towards what is happening, and in the future he will not make the same mistakes.

If a person is looking for a partner, the appearance of the “4 Swords” in the scenario does not foreshadow the fulfillment of a dream in the near future.

In addition, this minor lasso indicates that the root of the problem of loneliness is in the soul of the questioner himself. Perhaps he is building barriers to his happiness.

There can be many reasons: past disappointments, grievances, self-doubt, reluctance to change and make any efforts.

The meaning of the Tarot “Four of Swords” includes another interpretation. If before this the relationship was tense, the appearance of this lasso is an omen of the resolution of the conflict. In this case, the card represents peaceful coexistence and harmony.

The reversed position of the card symbolizes change after a long period of stagnation. The situation will force a person to leave his comfort zone and take action. It is possible that circumstances will require you to make a difficult decision.

All this is far from a complete list of options for the development of events that the Four of Swords (Tarot) tells about. The meaning in a relationship can be interpreted differently, depending on which cards the lasso is adjacent to.

Self-development and spiritual growth

The meaning of the Tarot “Four of Swords” in the layout regarding issues of self-improvement is interpreted as advice to devote time to spiritual development and putting thoughts in order. You should temporarily abandon social activity and everyday hustle and bustle and engage in personal development.

An inverted position indicates that the person is in a difficult situation. This is primarily due to a lack of understanding of the meaning of one’s actions and future prospects. Perhaps he took on several things at the same time, which did not bring any results.

Health and psycho-emotional state

In scenarios regarding health status, the appearance of the Four of Swords is far from the best sign. This minor lasso warns of possible illness and hospitalization. However, do not despair ahead of time.

The card should not be taken as a fatal omen, but as a warning and advice to reconsider your attitude towards life. In this case, we are talking about diseases caused by excessive workload, lack of rest, emotional overstrain and stress.

Therefore, the questioner should consider resting and restoring his physical or mental health. Ignoring such warnings from fate can cause negative consequences.

Adjacent cards in the layout will help to interpret the nature of the diseases that the Four of Swords warns about. Tarot, whose meaning is inherently positive, in combination with the above-mentioned lasso should be interpreted as advice to take a break, devote time to restoring your health, relaxation and meditation.

The presence of unfavorable cards, such as the Three of Swords, Nine of Swords, Death (13), Tower (16), can serve as an omen of serious illness.

In some cases, we are even talking about a complete loss of motor activity, a coma, or serious forms of mental disorders, such as deep depression and apathy.

However, in most cases, the “4 of Swords” indicates rehabilitation: the acute period has passed. The recovery process may take a certain period of time, but with proper treatment the disease will recede.

Personality character and current state of mind of a person

The meaning of the Tarot “Four of Swords” implies, first of all, the state in which a person is at this stage of life. Such a psycho-emotional mood is most likely caused by nervous exhaustion, stressful situations and fatigue.

Emotional burnout can lead to apathy and depression. Others perceive such a person as inert, unemotional and withdrawn. The meaning of the Tarot “Four of Swords” (upright) is the personification of an extreme degree of introversion, bordering on misanthropy.

Simply put, a person avoids communication with others and strives for solitude. However, this is not a characteristic of the personality as a whole, but only the current mood. Perhaps, due to past disappointments, he feels the need to withdraw in order to protect himself from the outside world.

This state makes it possible to restore strength.

Meaning of the Tarot “Four of Swords” (reversed): a person acts very impulsively, without a clear idea of future prospects. The desire to shoulder an unbearable burden can result in failure and deterioration in health. Arcanum in an inverted position advises you to calm down and determine your goals.

Situation

If the fortune telling was devoted to a specific situation, then the meaning of the Tarot card “Four of Swords” implies a period of stagnation. At this stage it is better not to do anything. Most likely, attempts to do anything will not be successful in the near future.

It's time to rethink past beliefs, think about future plans and set priorities. However, you should not leave everything to chance and refuse to solve the problem.

Perhaps what is happening in the present will be relevant after a certain period of time.

Another interpretation is forced delay due to external circumstances. Other cards will help you understand the reason. The presence of the Three and Nine of Swords in the layout indicates a deterioration in health.

Combination with other arcana

Interpreting various combinations is no less important than understanding each card individually. The appearance of one or another arcana in a reading can bring new shades to the perception of the situation, and in some cases even transform the overall meaning, revealing hitherto unknown facets of what is happening. The ominous omens of unfavorable arcana are offset by positive cards.
