Description

Stationary medium expansion foam generators GPSS are an element of stationary foam fire extinguishing installations for vertical tanks with a volume of more than 5000 m 3 at oil and gas enterprises and warehouses.

Foam generators of the GPSS series are mounted on the upper belt of the RVS tanks.

Modification of the stationary foam generator GPSS-2000A prevents the reduction of the foam pressure due to the guide casing.

The principle of operation of foam generators of medium expansion GPSS

Foam generators GPSS produce medium expansion air-mechanical foam from an aqueous solution of a foaming agent, forms a jet and delivers foam to extinguish a fire. This foam generator is suitable for overcoat fire extinguishing method. When ignited in a tank with a fixed roof, foam is applied to the entire surface of the ignited oil product. In tanks with a floating roof or pontoons, into the annular space between the tank wall and the metal diaphragm of the floating roof or pontoon.

Air-mechanical foam localizes the areas of ignition, reduces the evaporation of the liquid, and hence the appearance of new combustible vapors, and significantly reduces the temperature of the burning product.

Foam does not have a harmful effect on most materials and equipment, does not create additional load on structures due to its low bulk density.

The design of stationary foam generators GPSS

In the case of the GPSS foam generator there is a sprayer and a cassette. At the bottom of the housing is an air intake with a protective mesh.

The solution pipeline for supplying an aqueous solution of a foaming agent of a stationary fire extinguishing system is connected to the generator through an inlet on the flange. In front of the sprayer there is a damper, which is one of the arms of a two-arm lever mounted in the foam generator body on a hinge.

At the moment of extinguishing the fire, the foaming agent solution under pressure is supplied to the generator. Under the pressure of the jet from the sprayer, the damper rotates around the hinge axis and removes the fork from the stop. The tension of the rod disappears, under the pressure of the jet of the foam concentrate solution, the cover rotates around the hinge axis by 90° and opens the generator outlet. The atomizer creates a stream of foam in the form of a torch falling on the surface of the cassette. The mesh surface of the cassette creates a lot of foam bubbles by injecting air through the intake hole in the bottom of the case. The foam created in this way is directed to the gas-air space of the tank to extinguish the fire.

Stationary foam generator GPSS-600, GPSS-2000, GPSS-2000 A

  • GPSS foam generators are designed to supply foam when extinguishing a fire in a tank.
  • Foam is introduced into the tank through foam chambers mounted in the upper belt of the tank.
  • The foam breaks the membrane (a fragile vessel) made of oiled cardboard or sheet lead, enters the surface of the oil product and stops burning.
  • Usually 3-5 foam generators are installed.
  • GPSS 2000A- modification with a guide casing that prevents the weakening of the pressure of the foam concentrate.
  • The GPSS foam generator is installed on steel vertical tanks with a volume of 5000 m3 and more.
  • Foam is supplied to tanks with a fixed roof based on foam covering the entire area of the product surface, and to tanks with a floating roof - based on the annular space between the tank wall and the metal diaphragm of the floating roof.
  • Stationary medium expansion foam generator GPSS is designed for use in stationary foam fire extinguishing installations for tanks with oil and oil products.
  • The generator can be used for this purpose in other industries within the limits of its technical capability.
  • The generator complies with the climatic version U, placement category 1, operating conditions in an atmosphere of type II GOST 15150-69.
  • GPSS is part of an automatic stationary fire extinguishing system in tanks for storing oil and oil products, the use of which is mandatory in accordance with PB03-605-03p.8.4.
  • In the event of a fire, the tank may deform due to an increase in internal pressure. This leads to the destruction of the pipes supplying the water solution to the GPSS.

Device and principle of operation: (see picture below)
The inlet of the foam generator is located on the flange 3, to which the mortar pipeline of the stationary fire extinguishing system 6 is connected.
Installation and fastening of the foam generator on the tank is carried out using a mounting flange 2, which has an outlet closed by a cover 9, which is mounted on a hinge 10.
In front of the atomizer 8 there is a damper 11, which is one of the arms of a two-arm lever installed in the body of the foam generator 1 on a hinge 12.
The other end of this lever is connected by a hinge 13 to the fork 14. In addition, the two-arm lever is connected by a rope 15 to the handle 16 of the manual drive.
With its free end, the fork 14 is installed on the stop 17, fixed in the foam generator housing 1 with a bolt 18.
The rod 19 is connected with its ends to the cover 9 and 20.
The cover 9 is drawn to the edge of the outlet of the foam generator by the rod 19 due to the force generated by the rotation of the nut 21 along the thread of the stud 20. In this case, the nut 21 rests against the fork 14 with its end surface. foam generator, is fixed on the stud 20 with a lock nut 22.
The limiter 23 of the opening angle of the cover 9 is attached to the pin 20 and the rod 19.
The second end of the limiter 23 is bolted to the upper part of the housing.
To protect the lever system of the foam generator from breakage, the plug 14 is fixed (only for the period of transportation) with wire 24.
The description of the initial position of the lever system and cover 9 corresponds to the standby mode of operation of the foam generator installed on the tank.
To use a stationary medium expansion foam generator in operating mode (during fire fighting), a foam concentrate solution is supplied under pressure to the generator.
By the pressure of the jet from the sprayer 2, the damper 11 rotates around the hinge axis 12 and removes the fork 14 from the stop 17.
Under the action of the initial tension of the rod 19 and the rotation of the damper 11, the fork 14 rotates around the axis of the hinge 13 and disengages from the nut 21. In this case, the tension of the rod 19 disappears and under the pressure of the jet of the foam solution, the cover 9 rotates around the axis of the hinge 10 at an angle of about 90 ° and opens the outlet of the foam generator.
The atomizer 2 forms a jet of the foaming agent solution in the form of a torch falling on the surface of the cassette 3.
The mesh surface of the cassette 3 contributes to the formation of many foam bubbles due to the injection of air through the intake hole in the lower part of the GPSS-600 foam generator housing.
The foam created in this way is directed to the gas-air space of the tank to extinguish the fire.

Medium expansion foam generators are designed to produce air-mechanical foam from an aqueous solution of a foaming agent, as well as to form a jet and supply it when extinguishing fires of combustible and flammable liquids. Foam generators GPS is a special water-jet ejector portable type. The general principle of operation of portable generators is as follows: a foam concentrate solution is supplied under pressure to the sprayer. Due to ejection, when the sprayed jet enters the collector, air is sucked in and mixed with the solution. When the mixture passes through the mesh, foam is formed.
