A garage is not only a parking space. It is also a workshop, a place of rest, and a club of interests. Therefore, the arrangement of the garage should be convenient and thoughtful. On a small area, you need to place a lot of things, and it should be convenient to use them. Homemade products for the garage will help with this. What people do not do with their own hands. From an elementary shelf to a complex device. All this can be made by yourself. But you need to know how. Several ideas for modernizing the garage and a plan for their implementation in the article.

Homemade garage: ideas for arrangement

Arranging a garage is a lengthy process. You won't be able to do everything right away, you have to constantly modernize something, change, make something new. In this case, they mainly use homemade products for the garage. It requires less money and is also a pleasure - making the necessary thing out of the garbage is worth a lot.

Even in a small area, you can fit everything

Storage of tires and wheels

Every car owner is faced with the problem of storing off-season "shoes" for the car. Where to stick the tires is a sore point. In general, the way tires are stored depends on whether they are mounted on disks or not.

Tire storage methods

So tires with disks can be suspended or stored lying down - in the form of a stack, stacking them one on top of the other. To hang the tires, you can use luggage belts, chains, a metal cable with a diameter of 4 mm or more in a polyethylene sheath. Attach belts to the ceiling, wall, to the top beam.

PE-sheathed cable, ring anchors and clamps for tightening

Luggage straps are best secured to rings in the ceiling or hooks on the walls

Drive pins of sufficient length into the wall, but such that the pin does not stick out of the tire

Not only a pin will work, but also a hook with a small bend radius

Another affordable way is to drive pins or hooks with a small bend radius into the wall. The distance between the hooks is slightly more than the diameter of the tires. The length of the pins should be such that they do not stick out beyond the tire. You can stuff them almost under the ceiling so that the wheels fit.

Tires without discs can only be stored "standing". Special shelves are made for them. They are usually welded from a profiled pipe. 20 * 20mm, maximum, 30 * 30mm. You can also use a corner. It is inconvenient to cook a round pipe, but you can make crossbars from it - the tires fit and hold in this case better.

The shelf width is 4 times the tire width, plus a 10-15 cm margin for some freedom. The height of the rear wall is slightly higher than the outer diameter of the wheel. The design is simple = from the side it resembles a right-angled triangle. Having an inverter welding machine, it will not be difficult to weld such a shelf.

Tire Storage Shelf - Great DIY Garage DIY

This is a factory version with a completely inhuman price tag. But you can borrow the idea - the cross members can be rearranged depending on the size of the tires ... you never know

Just cooked and painted

These shelves are usually hung on the wall. But the place must be chosen so that no light falls on the rubber - it deteriorates from this. Not the most difficult homemade garage items, but very useful.

Workplace

Probably the largest number of homemade garage items is associated with the equipment of the workplace and tool storage systems. Moreover, shelves and shelves in the garage are not the only way to solve this problem. First of all, you need to decide where the workplace will be located. There are three options:

A table or workbench for a garage is made of boards, sheathed with plywood. Inexpensive, quite reliable. If you have a welding machine and verification skills, you can weld a frame from a corner or profiled pipe. Sheathing again is better with moisture-resistant plywood. The result is a smooth, abrasion-resistant surface. You can, of course, use laminated chipboard, but the laminate is quickly damaged.

U-shaped workbench for the garage

So that the place "does not walk", you can install shelves or drawers under the tabletop. Drawers are more convenient, but making them is still a hassle. It is quite possible to make shelves and put boxes knocked down from plywood on them. Plastic boxes and baskets are also suitable. But the walls must be thick.

Drawers can be placed on the shelves

By the way, there is a useful idea - to make a rack for storing tools from used cans. Find ones with a handle on top. Then everything is simple - one of the sidewalls is cut out and in the future this canister is used as a box.

Useful and simple homemade garage items

It is not necessary to make a whole rack - after all, it is difficult to remember where, what is. But according to the same principle, you can make drawers for shelves. On the ends, by the way, you can stick inscriptions or pictures (recognition with pictures is faster). Such homemade products for the garage bring satisfaction - creating a useful thing out of garbage is a pleasant feeling.

Tool storage

The most difficult task is organizing storage of the tool in the garage. It is necessary to make sure that everything is in order, but, at the same time, is at hand and in plain sight. Moreover, closed boxes are suitable only for very organized people who always put the thing taken in place. Otherwise, you will constantly rummage through the boxes, forgetting where that lies. There are several ideas for conveniently storing small items and tools. These are very simple homemade products for the garage.

The usual metal mesh will help to quickly solve the problem. A reinforcing mesh made of 2 mm wire, a 10 cm cage is suitable. Attach it to the wall, bite off some twigs, bend them, make hooks, crossbars, etc. You can buy special hooks that are attached to the net (available in stores selling commercial equipment), ordinary double-sided hooks that can be bought or made from wire are also suitable.

Wall mesh - a way to quickly organize tool storage

It is convenient to store screwdrivers on a special shelf. Take a board, plywood, 10-15 mm thick. The board must be sanded well so that there are no splinters. Then in the plane, drill holes of different diameters in one or two rows. If the board is wide enough, you can make larger holes for chisels or even hammer handles. Clean all the chips again. Now we need to come up with a wall mount. You can use a regular bracket. Screwdrivers, chisels, and other similar material are inserted into the holes. Convenient, fast, everything is in sight.

Idea for storing screwdrivers in a garage

There are also useful homemade garage items that allow you to organize the storage of hand tools. Pliers, pliers, wire cutters, etc. to place conveniently is problematic. It can be hung on a net; it is convenient to take off, but not to hang up. But there is a simple solution - to attach a narrow board and put the tool on it. To make it "sit down" comfortably, grind off the board from one side. In cut, it should look like an isosceles triangle.

Storing hand tools in the garage

Another simple idea for storing a cordless tool, chargers and spare batteries for them. Make a shelf as in the photo above. In the lower part, cuts of different formats are made, and the upper ones are used as ordinary shelves. The idea is that everything is in one place, quick to get / set in place. These garage homemade products will make your workplace comfortable. It will be easy to maintain order.

Homemade Garage Carriers

Even with very good lighting in the garage itself or on the street during the day, visibility is very low under the bottom of the car. To illuminate the front of the work, they use portable lamps - carriers. These are the simplest homemade garage items. With them, you can start the epic of the arrangement and equipment of the garage space.

The most widely used type of garage carrier. Self-made ones usually make very similar

In the simplest version, this is a cartridge attached to a wire, a small screen with a hook can be attached to it. Such a completely uncomplicated thing. Light bulbs are used ordinary - incandescent or housekeeping under a standard cartridge. Everything is not bad, except that these bulbs are beating very often, you need to look for how to hang them so that they shine in a specific place. In general, the design needs to be improved. There are several rework options.

Unbreakable lamp holder

This plastic bottle lampshade perfectly protects the fragile bulb of an energy saving lamp. You can also use an LED lamp, but incandescent will not work - it gets too hot. The design is usual - a cord with a plug and a cartridge at the end.

The main task is to find a plastic vessel with walls made of translucent milk plastic of medium thickness. Transparent will not work - it will not scatter light, too thin walls will not save the lamp from blows. After finding a suitable vessel, a trifle remains:

Everything is simple, but such a shade allows you to brightly illuminate exactly the desired area, the rest of the space is flooded with even light that does not cut your eyes.

Carrying LED recessed light

The simplest and most common homemade garage items are portable lamps. Without them, it is inconvenient to work not only in a garage pit, but even just on a workbench. You need a flat recessed LED luminaire that can be turned on at 220 V. These models are called "pills" because of their shape. You also need a cord with a plug, a piece of plastic window sill - to build in the lamp. A piece of the window sill should be larger in size than the lamp. You select the specific dimensions yourself. Further actions are as follows:

That's it, the homemade carrier is ready. This option is for floor installation. The movable leg allows you to change the angle of inclination. To make it turn over less, a couple of weights can be fixed inside the case (in its lower part).

Attach the carry cord to the ceiling

Conveniences are made up of little things, and very simple homemade products for the garage help in this. For example, you can remove the cable from a portable lamp that always gets tangled under your feet. Carrying is usually done with a cheap cable. It is not the most flexible, does not fold well, its turns on the floor fall under your feet. In general, it is inconvenient to use. You can protect yourself and carry - hang the cable from the ceiling. The solution is simple but very effective.

Such a "suspension" to the ceiling for carrying you can do it yourself in an hour

  • Two anchors with a ring at the end.
  • Cable tie.
  • Clamping clamp.
  • Metal rope. The length depends on the size of the garage - it is necessary from one wall to another.
  • Steel / plastic rings or steel wire and a piece of pipe to make these rings.
  • Carry with long cable - roughly double the length of the garage.

The cable runs along the long side of the garage. More convenient - not far from the "working" wall, where the workbench or other equipment is located. Little work:

Well, that's all. You can use it. With such a device, the carrier can be pulled to either end of the garage, while the cable does not get tangled or clinging. Convenient, requires little time.

DIY garage compressor

A compressor is needed in any garage. And by the way, this is not the most difficult homemade product for a garage. A low-power compressor for a garage for inflating tires and other small work can be done with your own hands from auxiliary materials. For example, from a compressor from a refrigerator. For this you will need:

  • compressor from the refrigerator;
  • a sealed cylinder with thick walls (you can use a flask from a fire extinguisher, a small gas cylinder);
  • safety valve for 8 atm;
  • pressure gauge;
  • fitting;
  • oxygen hoses with couplings (the length is selected based on the size of your spare parts);
  • base for the compressor - a thick board, a piece of plywood will do.

In order not to pump any muck into the tires, it is advisable to also put a filter - to separate oils, dust and other contaminants. A diagram of a homemade compressor is shown in the photo.

Homemade compressor circuit

The compressor must be equipped with a starting device. We turn it on in the network, look into which tube the air is sucked in, mark it. You can put a car filter on it - clean air will be pumped in.

We collect the receiver-oil separator from the cylinder and the safety valve. To do this, we cut two fittings into the cylinder - for the inlet and outlet of air. We put a safety valve on the inlet to it with the help of an oxygen hose and connect the compressor outlet.

Homemade compressor for the garage based on the compressor from the refrigerator

We put another car oil filter on the outlet of the oil separator receiver - to remove the oils completely. We connect the filter to the pressure gauge, and from it there is already a hose, which is connected to the bus through the corresponding adapter.

The assembly is complete. But in order to carry this device conveniently, everything must be fixed in some way. You can weld the frame to size, attach wheels and a handle - for easy transportation. One of the compressor options for pumping the wheels is described in the video. There is no receiver, but its function is performed by an oil filter. You can do that, but with a receiver, the design is more reliable.

Since the compressor in the refrigerator is small, it can take a long time to inflate the wheels. It can be made more powerful by installing two compressors that will start at the same time. Accordingly, the pressure will build up twice as fast. But in such an installation, a more solid security group is required. Such homemade products require a little more equipment, since the circuit is still more complicated.

A garage press is assembled from scrap materials. No complicated parts are needed, they make it practically from the remains of scrap metal. We need:

  • Two sections of the channel 80 cm long each, with the dimensions of the shelves 50x30 cm.
  • A piece of a profile pipe with a diameter of 40 or 60 mm, a length of 2.5 meters.
  • Iron plate 8 mm thick, dimensions 250x250 cm.
  • Two corners, one of which is 300 mm long, with a section of 50x50 mm, the second - 250 mm long, with a section of 25x25 mm.
  • The hydraulic jack is the main mechanism of the press.
  • Two springs and bolts of different diameters for fastening. They are selected locally.

Any plane can serve as the basis on which the press is located, as long as it is strong and solid. Usually the press is installed on a workbench.

Homemade press on the workbench

First, we make the side racks on which the entire mechanism rests. For this we take two sections of the channel. From the bottom, for emphasis on each, corners are attached with the letter T. In them, you can immediately make attachment points for subsequent installation on the base, drilling holes in four places from each edge. Then, according to the same principle, a corner is attached to the upper part of the channel, and a metal plate is attached to the pressure part of the press.

Now from below on the support channels you need to make fasteners for the springs that return the press mechanism back. For this, two holes are drilled and a bolt is screwed in from the inside. Then, according to the same principle, the two upper fasteners are prepared on the lower side of the pressure plate.

Now it remains to make a stand for an impromptu press. For this, two shaped pipes are cut, the length of which is slightly longer than the side supports from the channel. Connect them in such a way that they tightly clasp the vertical press racks, but do not clamp them. A jack is installed under them, and holes are drilled in place for its fastening.

Improvised press on a stand

The homemade press is ready. For smooth walking, the side channel is lubricated with grease or oil. When it becomes necessary to use it, the mechanism is installed on the prepared mounts and the frame is tightened with bolts.

It is easy to build an alarm system in the garage with your own hands, no fancy "devices" are required for this. All that is needed is an old push-button telephone, a sealed contact, a spring-loaded switch, or better a breaker and wires.

Do-it-yourself garage phone alarm

The signaling is assembled as follows:

  1. On the phone, you need to set up a one-touch call to the subscriber and enter your number.
  2. Then carefully disassemble it to connect the alarm wires.
  3. If on the device the "hang up" and "call" functions are controlled by one key, the first wire is soldered to it, and the second to the speed dialing digit.
  4. If the operation of these functions is separate, then the third wire from the signaling breaker goes to the button.
  5. If the button is used with two contacts, they are soldered to the call and dial function button.

Assembling a homemade alarm for a garage from a phone

When making such homemade products, keep in mind that the interrupt button will play the main role. It must be installed on the edge of the garage door between its opening and closing parts. At the same time, it should be positioned so that rain and snow do not fall on it. And the phone needs to be hidden in an inaccessible place, for example, in the far corner of the rack you built. To do this, long wires must be soldered to the contacts in advance. When the garage is closed, the breaker button is clamped by the garage door leaf, and at this time the alarm is in standby mode. When the gate is broken or opened, the contact opens and the circuit signal is sent to the telephone, which will make a call to the entered number.

Remember that homemade products like a garage alarm need some kind of secrecy. You shouldn't tell everyone and everyone how skilled you are.

It is simply impossible without such structures as racks with shelves. On them, you can fold all the small change, spare parts, tools and attach a self-made press in disassembled form. In order for such homemade products to fit into the garage space, first determine the place for their installation. They are usually constructed on one side of a wall or at the end of a room. The width must be calculated so that there is free access to the car and the open doors do not touch the racks.

To arrange shelving you will need:

  • bar with a section of 50x50 mm,
  • chipboard or OSB sheets for the construction of shelves,
  • iron corners and nails.

The base of the rack must be strong, because the rather large weight of the laid out tools presses on the shelves. Carry out all the calculations in advance and only then get to work.

Homemade tool rack base

The first is the bar on the ceiling. This will require self-tapping screws with plastic plugs. Holes are drilled along the previously marked line with a perforator with a step of 20-30 cm. Plugs are installed in them and the bar is attached to them with self-tapping screws. Then the plumb line determines the place of installation of the lower bar. Both the top and bottom bars should be on the same horizontal line to keep the racks level and sturdy.

Now you need to install the vertical posts. For better stability of the rack with shelves, they need to be fastened every 40–50 cm. They are fixed with nails, which are hammered in using the "slanting face" method or with the help of iron corners. We measure the distance from the upper bar to the lower one and, according to the size, prepare the vertical elements of the rack frame.

Now you need to install horizontal jumpers to support the shelves, but first you need to outline the places for their attachment. To do this, you need a tape measure. From the floor, mark the distance to the installation of the first row of shelves on the rack on each vertically installed bar. Then we measure the distance between each post. We cut the bars according to these dimensions. Now they need to be fixed. We insert one between the posts and fix it with self-tapping screws from the end, two on each side. Thus, we install all the elements of the frame. Then, from the installed bars, the second row of shelves on the rack is marked with a tape measure. They are installed in the same way.

Installing the frame elements of a homemade rack

It will be better to calculate in advance the number of shelves on the shelves before installation and to carry out the assembly of the frame according to the drawn up drawing or diagram.

Having assembled the outer frame, it remains to fix the bars on the wall for installing the shelves. A line is marked on the wall at the level of each row of crossbeams on the frame. Then the horizontal level is checked by the building level and a bar is attached along the entire length of the structure according to the marking.

It remains to make shelves for the shelves and install them. We measure the distance from the wall to the edge of the frame and from one vertical rack to another. According to the dimensions obtained, we saw a sheet of chipboard, set it in place and, for reliability, fix it on top with self-tapping screws. We do all the shelves in the same way.

Doors are usually not made on shelves; you can hang a dark fabric curtain along the entire length. That's all, the place to store the things you need is ready. It remains to simulate a homemade workbench and will be equipped in the garage.

Homemade products in the garage cannot be made without a workbench at your disposal. First, its support is assembled from the corners or profile pipe. It is better to connect these parts by welding. But if this is not possible, then bolting is allowed. But for this you will have to additionally mark the joints and drill holes. Convenient height of the finished workbench - 90 cm from the floor. So it will be more convenient to carry out work behind the workbench. But for someone it is better to repair while sitting, in which case the height of the workbench will be different. The sizes and dimensions for each garage are different. And it is better to decide with them before assembly.

Having assembled the base, we proceed to the manufacture of tabletops for the workbench. Recommended thickness 7–7.5 cm. Can be made from 100 mm thick plywood. If this is not possible, we will act in a different way. We glue the tabletop from several sheets of ordinary plywood. The standard thickness is 1 cm, and in this case 7 pieces will be enough. Having decided in advance on the size of the workbench (its upper part, where the tabletop will be mounted), we saw off the plywood along it. For connection, you can use PVA glue, but Moment or BF is better. You need to apply it on each sheet separately and after an exposure of 3-5 minutes, connect all the sheets.

Making plywood workbench worktops

After that, the glued sheets must be laid on a flat place and pressed down from above with a heavy load, in this state everything should remain for 24 hours. In order not to cut each sheet of plywood to size, you can first glue them, and then cut the tabletop for the workbench from the prepared material.

Now you need to cut off the iron sheet for the top covering of the workbench working plane, on which all the work will be carried out (metal with a thickness of 4–6 mm will be required). For accuracy, it is better to put it on plywood and circle the outline with an awl or nail. Then cut the sheet with a jigsaw equipped with a metal file. You need to fasten the tabletop with bolts, having pre-drilled holes in it and on the workbench. After assembling the workbench in its lower part, you can make small shelves and cabinets with doors. For this, any plywood or pieces of chipboard left after the manufacture of the shelves are suitable.

Iron sheet for the top cover of the work surface of the workbench

A variety of homemade products greatly facilitate the life and work process of a motorist. There is no need to search in the corners where everything lies, all the details are in their place. And a simple assembly type alarm will reliably protect the garage from burglary or car theft.

The garage is a second home for car enthusiasts. This building serves not only to shelter the car in bad weather, but also as a place to store all kinds of tools, often is the owner's "mini-workshop", where you can make almost any repairs. Each owner equips his garage for himself. Some do not take the equipment of the room very seriously, and it starts to bring more problems than benefits. But still, most motorists try to adhere to certain requirements that are important to fulfill for more convenient maintenance of their car. So, arranging a garage with your own hands requires compliance with certain requirements.

Primary requirements

Arranging a room for a garage means that it will be warm and dry enough.

Your car should not freeze even in very severe frosts. If possible, you can provide a system for quickly warming up the garage.

It is very important to reliably protect the premises from intruders. When setting up your garage, remember that access to tools or equipment that will be located in the garage should be as convenient and simple as possible. Therefore, it is better to think in advance about the location of the storage places.

In general, this is only the very minimum of requirements that it is desirable to take into account for your own comfort. You can also supplement and equip the garage with additional tools for repair and maintenance of your car at will. A workbench with tools and a viewing hole can be a great addition to the equipment of the room.

How to install racks and shelves

For the most comfortable arrangement of the garage, a lot of space is required, and this is often a problem. The storage of working tools and equipment also takes up quite a lot of space. Therefore, when setting up a garage on your own, try to adapt as much space as possible for shelves or cabinets, but so that they do not interfere with free movement around the room. The shelves can be hung wherever you will not cling to or bump into them, over tables, windows, shelves, and so on.

The distance to the machine when hanging shelves on each side must be at least 1 meter.

Quite often, it is convenient to equip a wall for a variety of shelves and equipment, which is located farthest from the gate. It is there that the main working tools, a compressor, a workbench and more are located. Everything is at hand and does not interfere with moving around the room.

A large number of shelves in the garage is a big plus, but it is also worth thinking about a small locker where you can hang work clothes and put some rags.

How to properly equip a viewing pit

The question of the presence or absence of a viewing pit is quite individual. First, you need to decide how high the need for arranging such a pit is. There is no point in equipping it if you often use the overpass on the street.

If you decide that you need such a pit, then you must take into account that the walls and the bottom must be concreted. The edges of the pit should be reinforced with iron corners. It is also worth considering what and how you will close the inspection hole during its non-use.

In the corner of the pit, a drainage hole is needed, all the water that accidentally falls down will be collected in it. The hole must be made of such a size that it is convenient to scoop out the accumulated water from it. In order not to accidentally step into the hole during auto repair, it must be covered with a lattice.

Small equipment can be placed in the pit, which can be useful for repairs; niches can be prudently made in the walls so that it is convenient to put the used tool. Also take care of lighting the inspection pit, install a lamp, or equip a place for a portable lamp.

Necessary equipment

A standard set of tools and a jack are enough for a normal wheel change or disk replacement, for carrying out the most common work under the hood of a car. But to perform more complex work, you need special equipment.

Workbench

It is best to use wood and metal to make a workbench. It is best to cover the working area with a piece of metal, protecting the wood from rapid wear. It is better to make a workbench in two or three levels in order to arrange as many necessary things as possible.

For normal body repairs, a welding machine with either tungsten electrodes, which are in a shielding gas, or a carbon dioxide machine, which welds metal with wire, will be enough for you.

Such an apparatus is used to purify the air from vapors, oil droplets, water and other small particles that may be present in it. This is a very convenient device used when painting a car, and contributes to the uniform distribution of paint over the metal.

Washing

Of course, this is not a professional car wash. And just about the one that everyone can equip in their garage. To do this, you just need to bring a hose or pipe to supply water to the garage and drain it into the sewer. However, remember that electrical wiring and lighting will need more protection.

High-quality ventilation and lighting

It is very important to create high-quality ventilation in the garage, it will not only save the room from unpleasant and harmful odors, but also protect it from the formation of dampness and excessive dust.

Ventilation holes are usually made on both sides of the gate at a low height and covered with grilles. The same holes are made on the opposite wall, but already under the ceiling.

Of course, the best lighting is natural, so if possible, you should think about having a window. If this is not possible, then make several lighting zones: above the working area, general and portable, with which you can highlight the most necessary.

Also, to equip the garage, you will need to buy metal tool cabinets, racks, workbenches and other garage equipment that will fit into the interior of the garage.

When creating, and almost any owner seeks to do something with his own hands, whether it be shelves for parts, a workbench, a gate, ventilation or heating. We will talk about this in this article, namely, how to create all these same garage homemade products.

Self-made overhead gates are much better and more efficient than conventional gates on leafs.

After all, everyone knows how much trouble these doors cause in the winter, when ice accumulates on them, and a lot of snow on the site behind the gate. All this gives a lot of difficulties when leaving the car garage.

Therefore, homemade products in the garage, such as single-leaf lifting gates, will be very convenient. The gates are equipped with a special device thanks to which they rise. It is not necessary to apply great efforts when lifting, since the total weight of the door is compensated by 2 cylindrical springs.

The work is carried out thanks to a system of levers with springs and rollers that open along the guides. It is thanks to this system that the sash is lifted. In this case, the compensating springs are facing outward, and the upper one goes inward (rolling along the guides).

Construction details: gate frame, opening mechanism, lifting sash. The assembly mechanism is light and convenient.

The gate frame is assembled quite simply with the help of 2 vertical beams and 1 horizontal one. Vertical beams have a length of 2300 mm and a section of 120x80 mm. The horizontal beams are 2750 mm long and have exactly the same cross-section. They are connected to each other thanks to squares and metal plates. In the opening, the box is fixed with metal pins with a diameter of 10x200 mm. The lower ends of the box racks are deepened into the concrete base by 20 mm.

The sash is made of a plank board (which is sheathed from the outside with sheet steel), a corner and a frame with ribs. The shield is attached to the frame with furniture bolts with metal strips. The frame is made of rolled steel and has dimensions of 2500 × 2100 mm.

Gate mechanism

When lifting, the upper part of the door moves under the ceiling along the guide rails. The rails consist of steel angles with a length of 2100 mm and a size of 40 x40 x 4 mm.

The fully fabricated rail is attached at one end to a steel plate for further attachment to the vertical box posts. At a distance of 120-150 mm, a section of the channel is attached to the other end of the guides. The guides must be strictly horizontal. This is achieved by placing a washer between the beam and the channel.

The door lift is regulated by a spring tension screw. In this case, it is important to ensure that the sash is always in a stationary position. The gates are closed with special locks located in the corners of the gate wing. A handle is provided at the bottom and in the middle with a height of approximately 20 mm.

In addition to garage doors, homemade garage items are all sorts of shelves for storing tools. They can be either large, mounted in the far wall of the garage, or small, located on the sides of the room.

DIY garage shelves

The simplest and most basic shelves can be made using cables that are sold in all kinds of hardware stores. They have high strength for hundreds and thousands of kilograms. Sold in a variety of sizes and diameters. Each shelf is held on 4 such cables.

The next part that is needed in the manufacture of shelves is a piece of metal or plastic tube. It is necessary to determine the distance between the shelves of the rack. They are attached using special bushings with a locking bolt. The bolt is screwed into the threaded hole. As a result, the shelf rests on all 4 bushings (on each side).

These shelves are highly mobile and lightweight, both in terms of weight and in terms of varying width. At any time, you can change the width to the required one. However, it is worth remembering that they require good and durable ceilings.

For those shelves that will be attached to the walls, you can use wire about 4-6 mm thick, which is sold in any stores that sell metal in coils or cut. A kind of "herringbone" is made along the width of the ceiling space. Accordingly, for fixing the shelves, you need two identical "herringbones". For one side and the other.

It is best to make these "Christmas trees" at the same time (for greater symmetry). You can use the shelf itself as a template. If you create these herringbone pendants with some margin, then in the future it is possible to remove or insert additional shelves. Wall mounting is carried out using self-tapping screws, brackets or wood grouses.

Perhaps, at first glance, the fragility of this structure may seem, but this is not entirely true. They are actually very sturdy and resilient. None of its elements can be changed from such a triangle. The corners and lengths of the sides are strong enough and, moreover, elastic.

Making a workbench

In the garage, in addition to various work related to the car, many also perform locksmith, carpentry and other repair work. This is what a workbench with a vice is for. Of course, it is much easier to use an industrial workbench, but a layout board is also used.

The sizes of workbenches and layout boards can be completely different. The height should be appropriate and positioned for the convenience of the work to be performed. The best height is considered when the worker makes it at the level of the center of the palms of the lowered hand.

Making a workbench with your own hands is quite simple. In this case, smooth boards with a thickness of 4-5 centimeters are used. The boards are connected to each other in width. The main components of the workbench are considered to be a recess with a wedge, an emphasis, holes with pegs.

The emphasis is needed to hold materials during the work performed (planing). It is fixed with screws or nails at some distance from the edge on the left side of the table. It looks like a wooden plank about 10-12 centimeters wide, about 20 centimeters long and about 2 centimeters thick. The boards rest against their ends when planing.

The recess is necessary in order to clamp the materials in an upright position. In this case, all materials are attached thanks to the wedge.

Holes with pegs serve for the necessary support when planing boards, cross-cutting of material and some other processes. At a certain distance from the rear edge, holes are drilled along the entire length of the workbench. The pegs inserted into them are stops, so it is important that they are of a small height. Ideally, products of different heights should have different peg sizes.

Directly the workbench table is mounted on 4 legs, which are connected to each other by bars. After it is covered with linseed oil to prevent drying out.

Room heater

DIY homemade products for the garage are not only all kinds of devices for equipment and repairs. It can also be heating and ventilation devices. Consider an example of equipping a garage with a special stove, which is extremely necessary in the winter season.

It is known how often it is necessary to warm up the transmission in winter, and sometimes antifreeze (in severe frosts). The situation is greatly facilitated when a special heating stove is used, which does not consume much fuel and at the same time maintains the engine temperature at the desired level.

The principle of operation of such a stove is based on the course of chemical processes. Heat is released not due to fuel combustion, but due to the fact that on the surface of the heating element fuel vapors are oxidized by atmospheric oxygen.

Stove diagram

The stove consists of a burner, a fuel tank, a cloth or asbestos wick. A heating element is placed in the burner in the form of two metal grids and a frame, which are impregnated with a catalyst. The wick supplies fuel from the tank to the burner itself. The upper part of this wick opens evenly under the net, and the lower part must be on the bottom of the tank.

When fuel is poured into the tank, care must be taken not to spill out into the outside. Fuel should only be inside for safety reasons. After filling the fuel tank, wipe it thoroughly with a dry cloth.

The heater is started at a distance of 25 meters from the machine. It is fired up according to the following principle. First, 50-100 ml of fuel is poured onto the grid of the heating element. Then it is set on fire with a match. After the flame goes out, fuel vapor is sucked from the tank to the heated surface. In the presence of a catalyst, under the action of oxygen, they begin to oxidize. The temperature gradually rises and flameless combustion begins.

Hot spots often spread gradually, with a corresponding increase in temperature. Flameless combustion does not immediately cover the entire working area of the burner. If you do not stop this process, then it will continue until all the fuel runs out.

In order to make a heating element, long-fiber asbestos is used. Within one hour, it is impregnated with a catalyst from a platinum chloride solution or a cobalt-chromium solution. For 100 g of asbestos you need 1000 cubic centimeters of solution. The resulting mass is dried, fiddled with and ignited. The result is a dark and loose asbestos mixture. It is evenly scattered through wire nets. And for a burner with an approximate surface of 10 dm², the catalyst consumption is about 300 g.

Heater operation rules

Avoid getting oil, dirt and water on the work surface. Compliance with a simple technology in the production of a heating element and competent operation will ensure the operation of the device for many years.
