Garden equipment

There are things you can live without. For example, an electric can opener, or a sausage cutter. This list could be continued indefinitely, however, the meaning is probably already clear. In ordinary life, they are simply not needed. Of course, there is a certain degree of probability that someday they will also find a use.

For example, you are expecting a large number of guests and you need to open 10 cans of green peas, and then cut 20 loaves of sausage into thin slices. Of course, under such circumstances, the above things will be very useful. But these are special cases. In our usual everyday life, it is easier for us to open a can of canned food in the usual way, as well as cut off a couple of slices of sausage for a sandwich.

It's the same with computer programs. Studying them just for general development, in the hope that one day they will be needed, would be a waste of time. Of course, during training, you improve your general computer skills in any case. For example, you are more confident in holding the mouse in your hands, you start typing more and more quickly, you are more fluent in unfamiliar interfaces ... Nevertheless, first of all, it is worth learning programs that will really help you in your work or personal life.

MS Excel program is a universal tool and is suitable for almost any person who, on duty, has to calculate something, maintain databases, build diagrams, and the like. Moreover, the word "calculate" often frightens ordinary people. Something like matrix transposition or differential equations is immediately presented.

In fact, even in ordinary life, there is a place for calculations. Let's take a look at some simple examples.

The first is the most commonplace: you need to keep a table of expenses and incomes. If you are not lazy and write down at least large expenses there, you can draw conclusions about the structure of expenses and correct them.

Second: you need to draw up a diagram using the existing table. In Excel, this is done in literally a few minutes (of course, if you know how).

Fourth: you need to maintain a small database of the company's customers.

All these and many other tasks become easily solvable if you use Microsoft Excel.

By the nature of my work, I constantly have to analyze digital data. It used to take a long time to do this because I preferred to work with a regular calculator. However, when the chief once again hinted at the presence of constant errors in calculations and asked to speed up the provision of reports with the results of business trips, "bad" thoughts began to creep into my head that it was time to shake things up and start training.

How you can learn Excel

Everyone comes to Excel differently. However, few people manage to master the program on their own, using textbooks. The fact is that, as a rule, there is no time for this. The bosses don't really care that you have to learn anything. He needs a result.

Therefore, you have to work in fits and starts. In free time. Buying books at your own expense.

There is another tactic: you can endlessly terrorize your colleagues by asking them question after question, asking them to show how this or that operation is done. Colleagues are different. Some try to help you at first. Others immediately come up with a way to make you "get off" yourself. For example, give advice in a deliberately dismissive tone, showing with all your appearance that you are an impassable dumbass, and without a single hope of correction.

Alas, self-study is usually slow. Sometimes a person simply falls into a stupor, because he firmly rests against an insurmountable obstacle. Day after day nothing turns out, and there is no one to ask. Colleagues, seeing you approaching their table, immediately take on such a puzzled look that asking them questions simply does not turn out to be difficult.

What to do, you think, and decide to look for some courses on mastering MS Excel.

MS Excel courses

Here, as they say, whoever gets lucky. If you are lucky enough to find a good teacher who really works with the program in practice, and did not study it from books a month before the start of your courses, consider that half the job is done.

If your boss agrees to let you go to school during working hours, it will be even better. And if he also condescends to pay for your education, then you can consider yourself a real darling of fate.

What if everything turns out the other way around?

You will drive to the training center after work, when your head is already boiling from production tasks. You will pay a considerable sum from your own pocket for the Excel course. And with all this, you will come across a teacher who can tell about the program only within the framework of the "Excel for Dummies" book. Any question "aside" from the general line will baffle him.

As a result, after graduation, you will be fully convinced that Excel is one of the most complex programs in the world, and you yourself are one of the most stupid students, the shame of the training center that graduated you and the teacher personally. How can you not return to the good old calculator, causing the anger of the bosses and the smirks of more advanced colleagues.

Even if this sad "second option" does not happen to you, you still have to drive through half the city to classes at the end of the working day, waste time in traffic jams, sit in a stuffy classroom under a flickering neon light, adjust to the speed of the slowest student in the group - really is this how education should be in the 21st century?

Online lessons MS Excel

Of course not! I immediately dismissed the face-to-face courses and started looking for online training options. In general, on the Internet there are a lot of completely free Excel learning materials... At first I was delighted and started looking through them, but over time it became clear that free lessons are very scattered, it is difficult to find a continuation, etc.

Sometimes the quality of information presentation left much to be desired.

However, at some point, I discovered two courses that seemed successful to me. Alas, one of them was not complete enough and contained only the most. This was only suitable for the very novice users. The second course was thorough and serious. Most of all, I was captivated by the fact that the analysis of program functions was not a simple abstract enumeration, but on concrete examples.

Let these were examples not entirely from my area, but they helped to master the capabilities of the program, to get a handle on, to absorb the techniques of work. All this made it possible to take subsequent independent steps, acting by analogy.

Online training versus classic courses

There are disciplines where online learning is powerless. Everything there is built on the living interaction of a mentor and a student. However, if we are talking about mastering a new computer program, then the video lesson will work more successfully than the usual one, when both the teacher and the student are in the class at the same time.

If we work with video lessons, then we are not tied to a specific time and place of study. You can practice when the time is available. The main thing is not to give up. This rule is very important! Many people who scold distance learning turn out to be undisciplined slobs. Having paid for the course, they believe that they will learn in any case and are very surprised when month after month passes, and knowledge somehow does not increase at all.

No wonder. On weekdays, they usually have no time to study - work, fatigue, TV. And when they sit down to lessons on the weekend, what they learned a week ago is almost forgotten. You have to endlessly return, re-watch the video lessons already passed. And not just watch, but do all the actions yourself. And then there are tasks for independent work.

Another problem is the passive viewing of video tutorials without any attempts to do the proposed exercises with your own hands. Indeed, why do they need to be done when everything is clear anyway. Let's move on ...

As a result, not getting practical skills day after day, just looking through the lessons during the lunch break with a cup of coffee in hand, a person is not learning, but wasting time. Unsurprisingly, some have developed a strong antipathy to distance learning.

Yes, it is not for slobs. If you want to learn something - watch and learn.

Excel lessons by Andrey Sukhov

As I said, I liked the course. All topics are covered with specific examples that are much better remembered. I liked the fact that the author recorded more than one large video lesson covering an entire section of the course, but split it into several short videos.

Watching a short video covering a specific situation and its solution is much more convenient. It's very easy to rewind the video if you listened to something. It is constantly proposed to perform this or that action on your own. So not only the head, but also the hands remember the sequence of operations.

What is valuable is that the author proposes to watch the first, introductory part of the course without setting any conditions. It covers the very initial knowledge and skills, which, nevertheless, are sufficient for solving simple, non-special tasks.

At the same time, it becomes possible to listen to how the author conducts lessons. Are there any problems with diction, is the tempo of the presentation of the material normal, are the examples clear, etc.

At one time, I also first subscribed to the first free part, and then paid for the full course. It cost 1800 rubles. On the one hand, it seems to be expensive. On the other hand, face-to-face courses are much more expensive. If you buy a textbook, then the savings will be very dubious. Indeed, there are inexpensive books, but training is very time-consuming.

The result of training and implementation of Excel

Now the bosses are quite happy with me. I have fewer errors and I submit reports on time. Why are there bosses! I myself am delighted. After all, it cost me once to draw up and debug the table and then all the work consisted only of adding fresh actual numbers to several cells. The program instantly performed the calculation and produced ready-made numbers.

If earlier drawing up the accursed report was a real hard labor, now it has turned into a holiday. Everything turns out quickly and without errors. Almost "self" :)

Who said the phrase: "Manual labor on the shoulders of machines?" This is exactly what happened in my case. The time spent on training paid off handsomely. Thanks to Microsoft for such a useful program and to Andrey Sukhov for clear and useful.

Video Information

Good day, dear reader of my site. I haven't written new articles for a long time, and yet I made up my mind. The topic "" is quite difficult to master, but useful if you are dealing with a lot of numbers. Which is what I will show in this article.

This lesson will focus on the basic purpose of spreadsheets. And, if possible, I will tell you how to make a table with calculations and, plus, build a graph for this table. I hope the article will be useful and interesting.

1. Basic controls for tables.

2. Building a table.

3. Editing the table and filling with data.

4. Using formulas in excel.

5. How to make a graph in excel.

6. General design of the document.

7. Draw conclusions.

Basic table controls.

In the last lesson, we explored the structure of a spreadsheet sheet. Now let's try to put some of the controls into practice.

We write the title of the table.

There are three options here. The first option is without merging cells. The second option is using the cell merge tool. And the third option is to insert a shape element into which we insert the title text.

Since we need to learn how to work professionally and efficiently in Excel, we forget about the first option forever. Why? This is not correct, not professional, and during further work many problems may arise when editing and displaying.

Personally, I use the second or third option. Ideally, if you learn how to use shape elements and insert text into them. Then you will forever forget about the problem of text placement and its further editing and correction.

Consider how it's done:

1. Select the area of cells that we need to merge with the right mouse button. To do this, place the mouse cursor in the first cell of the region and, while holding the left mouse button, move to the final cell of the region.

2. In the toolbar - the Main tab - the Alignment block - the Merge Cells tool. We select the parameter we need and click on it.

We look at the picture:

3. Click on the merged cell twice with the left mouse button and enter the title text. It can also be edited, changed size, font style and alignment in cells.

Building a table.

Moving on to the next element, building the table. We use the technique of selecting cells, select the area we need and set the borders of the table. First, sketch out on a piece of paper or in your head (if you can visualize) the structure of the table. The number of columns and rows. And then start selecting the area. It will be easier.

We look at the picture:

Home tab - Font block - Borders tool. Select the desired border selection option. In my case - All boundaries.

You can also set the thickness of the border selection line, line color, line style. These elements give a more elegant, and sometimes understandable, readable form to the table. We will talk about this in more detail later in the chapter "Document Formatting".

Editing the table and filling with data.

And now the most crucial moment to remember. Editing tables is carried out as follows.

1) select the desired area. To do this, we first define what will be in the cells. It can be numbers that represent monetary value, percentages, measured values, or simple numbers.

2) Click on the selected area with the right mouse button and in the context menu select the item "Format cells ..."

3) Having decided on the digital value, we select the display format we need.

We look at the picture:

4) Set up automatic alignment of cell contents. Here it is optimal to choose: wrap by words or auto-fit.

We look at the picture:

This is an important point, which will help you to observe numbers in cells as numbers, and the monetary equivalent as a monetary equivalent.

Using formulas in excel.

Moving on to the main part, which will look at the full potential of spreadsheets.

Let's start with the automatic cell numbering feature. We put the number "1" in the first cell, the number "2" in the second cell. Select these two cells. In the lower right corner of the border of the selected area, click on the small black square. Holding down the left mouse button, drag in the direction of numbering, thereby continuing to select a column or row. Stop in the desired cell and release the mouse button.

We look at the picture:

This function allows you to apply propagation and copying to the selected cells.

Formula for addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.

In order to make any calculation, you must enter the value "=" in the cells. Next, with the mouse cursor, click on the cell with the first indicator, put the calculation sign and click on the second indicator, and at the end of the calculation, press the Enter key.

We look at the picture:

The "SUM" function is necessary for summing many cells. The formula is as follows: = SUM (sum range)

We look at the picture:

Place the cursor in brackets and select the area to be summed with the cursor.

Here are the basic formulas that are most commonly found in spreadsheets. And now the task: you need to make the following table using these formulas.

We look at the picture:

Whoever fails, write in the comments, I will help!

How to make a graph in excel.

The creative moment in this tutorial has arrived! What is a diagram? This is a graphical, visual display of data in the form of two scales of indicators and a result.

To build a chart, we need a table that contains at least two indicators.

Let's see an example:

And we look at the possibilities of formatting the chart

1) Constructor

2) Layout

3) Format

In these three tabs you will find everything you need for a high-quality diagram design. For example, axis title, chart title, appearance.

Are you ready to complete the task?

To the table that you completed in the previous task, you need to build a diagram.

You may have your own version! I'll show mine at the end of the article.

General design of the document.

The layout of spreadsheets, as well as any text document, is necessary to give style. The style, in turn, can be business, draft, presentation, teaching, youth.

The following points can be included in this section:

- highlighting by color.

- use of different fonts.

- the location of objects in the document.

- design of diagrams and other objects.

All these points are primarily aimed at ensuring that any person can easily understand all the values and indicators. As well as a beautiful or austere appearance of the document, depending on the purpose, it should emphasize your competence and professionalism.

We look at my design option:

Certainly not the most original and best, but emphasizing everything that can be applied to the design.

We draw conclusions.

The material in the article can be said to be HUGE. But at the same time, I tried to highlight all the points that reveal the potential and purpose of spreadsheets. I have given the basic tools for making full use of spreadsheets for their intended purpose.

At first glance, it seems very clever and irresistible. But this is not the case! Set up a similar table and graph based on your cash costs per month or week. Or, for example, calculate your car rides. Thus, you will receive a statistics and analytics tool.

I would be glad if you hit the social buttons a couple of times and leave comments on my hard work.

See you in the next articles!

In the form of graphs, charts and histograms, you can present any data, both simply entered into a spreadsheet, and data obtained as a result of calculations. So, the final ninth video:

Excel is one of the most powerful applications in the entire Office suite. It is used not only by accountants and economists, but also by ordinary people. The program is designed to work with numbers and tables, it makes it possible to present information in the most perceivable form: as diagrams and graphs. Here you can carry out the most complex calculations and perform various mathematical operations. In addition, the user does not need special knowledge, it is enough to learn how to work in Excel.

What is this office application?

Excel works with files that form a kind of workbook, consisting of separate sheets. Letters, symbols and numbers are entered into table cells. They can be copied, moved or deleted. If necessary, various operations are carried out with them: text, mathematical, logical and others. Beginners who are just learning how to work in Excel should know that any information can be displayed in the form of graphs or diagrams.

How do I create a file?

First of all, you need to open the document. To create it, you need to click on the program shortcut or go to the application through the "Start".

By default, the name is Book 1, but you can enter any name in the File name line. While working, it is worth periodically saving data to avoid loss of information in the event of a computer crash or freeze.

You can easily switch between sheets by clicking on the corresponding inscription at the bottom of the page. If there are a lot of tabs, it is better to use the arrow keys on your keyboard. To insert a sheet, you need to find the "Insert" item in the "Home" menu. There will be displayed all possible actions applicable to sheets, such as add or remove. You can also move tabs.

The "face" of the program

Before you figure out how to work in Excel, it's worth exploring the interface. The tools are located at the top and bottom of the window, and the rest of the area is occupied by rectangles, which are cells. The peculiarity of spreadsheets is that actions can be performed in some cells, and the result can be displayed in others.

Each table has columns that are designated by letters of the English alphabet. Lines are numbered from the left. Thus, any cell has its own coordinates. You can enter both data and formulas in each cell. Before entering the latter, you must put the symbol "=".

Each cell has its own characteristic

To understand how to learn how to work in Excel correctly, the user must know that before entering values, it is necessary to set the dimension to a column or cell. It will depend on where the data is being measured. To do this, right-click on the selected range and select the "Format cells" item in the dialog box.

If the entered number is greater than 999, it is necessary to set the division by digits. You should not enter spaces yourself.

For the correct display of data, you cannot enter more than one separate value in one cell. Also, do not enter enumerations separated by commas or other characters. Each value must have its own cell.

How do I enter data?

It will not be difficult for users who know to enter data. To do this, you need to click on a cell and type letters or numbers on the keyboard. To continue working, you must press "Enter" or TAB. A line break is carried out using the combination ALT + "ENTER".

When entering a month or a number in order, it is enough to write the value in the initial cells, and then drag the marker to the required range.

Wrap text

Most often, users are interested in how to learn how to work with text in Excel. You can wrap it by words if necessary. To do this, you need to select certain cells and in the "Home" tab you need to find the "Alignment" option, and then select "Text Wrap".

If you need to automatically change the width and height of a cell according to the entered text, you should do the following: go to the "Home" tab and in the "Cells" group select the "Format" item. Next, you need to choose the appropriate action.

Formatting

To format numbers, select a cell and find the Number group in the Home tab. After clicking on the arrow next to the "General" item, you can select the required format.

To change the font, you need to select a certain range and go to the menu "Home", "Font".

How do I create a table?

Knowledge of how to work in Excel is unlikely to be useful to the user if he does not know how to create a table. The easiest way is to select a specific range and mark the borders with black lines by clicking on the corresponding icon at the top of the page. But often a non-standard table is required for forms or documents.

First of all, you need to decide how the table should look in order to set the width and length of the cells. Having selected the range, you need to go to the "Format Cells" menu and select the "Alignment" item. The option "Merge cells" will help to remove unnecessary borders. Then you need to go to the "Boundaries" menu and set the required parameters.

Using the Format Cells menu, you can create different variations of tables by adding or removing columns and rows, and changing borders.

Knowing how to work in an Excel spreadsheet, the user will be able to create headers. To do this, in the "Table formatting" box, check the box opposite the "Table with headers" item.

To add elements to the table, you must use the "Design" tab. There you can select the required parameters.

What are macros for?

If the user has to often repeat the same actions in the program, knowledge of how macros work in Excel will come in handy. They are programmed to perform actions in a specific sequence. Using macros allows you to automate certain operations and facilitate repetitive work. They can be written in various programming languages, but their essence remains the same.

To create a macro in this application, you must enter the "Tools" menu, select the "Macro" item, and then click "Start recording". Next, you need to perform those actions that are often repeated, and after the end of the work, click "Stop recording".

All these instructions will help a beginner figure out how to work in Excel: keep records, create reports and analyze numbers.
