The coffee table is a decoration and highlight of the interior. A handmade item is doubly appreciated. It can be made from wood, glass, plastic and other materials. It's not difficult at all. You will need drawings and a little patience. A beautiful table will become a place where you can relax and read the press or sit with friends over a cup of tea. Step-by-step instructions with photos will simplify the manufacturing process.

Preparatory work

In order to make a coffee table on your own, you will need not only drawings, but also materials with tools. Stock up on the following building supplies:

  • wood (solid);
  • water-based varnish;
  • solvent;
  • acrylic paint;
  • brushes;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • jigsaw;

  • screwdriver;
  • grinder;
  • milling cutter;
  • drill.

As for wood, the best choice would be an array of pine 2.5 cm thick. In accordance with the drawing, the parameters of the coffee table, which is planned to be made by hand, are 1.5 m x 0.5 m.

Attention! The table does not require separate legs.

Varnish is needed to cover the finished structure, in total it will need about 0.3 liters. Acrylic paint is best purchased with glitter. With its help, you can give an unusual look to the interior. The assembly of the table will be carried out using self-tapping screws. Their size should be 4 x 60 and 4 x 40 mm. As for the rest of the tools and materials, there are no special requirements for them.

Mounting Features

The first step in the manufacture of a coffee table is the selection of drawings and sawing out the appropriate parts. Suitable schemes can be found on the Internet or you can make your own.

Attention! Ready-made drawings are much easier to use and the process of making a table will be completed faster.

So, when all the details are ready, you can start assembling the future interior decoration.

  • All joints and roughness of wooden parts must be primed. This can be done with wood glue or PVA. Then let all components dry completely.

  • Planks and legs should be fastened with self-tapping screws indicated in the list of required materials.
  • The resinousness of the coffee table is easy to remove with a solvent. The most popular remedy is white spirit. Moisten a dry cloth with a little agent and wipe the surface of the table.

Advice. Do these manipulations in an open space, because in the apartment this smell will not disappear soon.

  • The table is almost ready. But it needs to be decorated. To do this, you need to mix varnish and acrylic paint with shiny splashes. Cover the entire surface of the table.
  • After the paint and varnish have dried, the coffee table can be placed indoors and used for its intended purpose.

Table made of wooden boxes

This is the easiest and most original way to make a decorative table. A handmade designer item will rightly take its place in the living room or bedroom. To make a table, you will need wooden boxes. It's wood, not plywood. Wood has good performance qualities, which cannot be said about plywood.

But still, this material is also required for a coffee table from drawers. Take a few minutes of instructions and you will definitely succeed!

  • Prepare a sheet of plywood. This is done in order not to burden the structure. Wooden boxes are not a perfect geometric object.
  • In this regard, the boxes should be laid on a horizontal, flat surface. Before cutting the plywood sheet, draw the outlines. And cover the sheet of plywood with varnish or stain.

Advice. For a coffee table made of drawers, you will need wheels. They can be purchased at any hardware store or hypermarket. It is best to buy wheels that are small and low.

  • The wheels should be fixed at the corners, and the drawers should be attached to the bottom tabletop.
  • It remains to varnish the coffee table. After applying the varnish, you need to let it dry and only then cover it with a new layer. This procedure is repeated several times.

Advantages and disadvantages of wooden tables

Wooden tables are a popular option that will easily fit into any interior. It is only important to choose the right shade that will be in harmony with the rest of the furniture. Like all objects, such designs have their positive and negative sides. The pluses include:

  • a large selection of wood (soft, hard breeds);
  • variety of shades and textures;
  • ease of manufacture and ductility of the material;
  • naturalness and environmental friendliness;
  • versatility.

In addition to the positive aspects, it is necessary to note the disadvantages. There are few of them, or rather, only two: the high cost of the material and susceptibility to mechanical actions (scratches, abrasions, etc.).

Drawer table Metal table Transforming table

To make a coffee table with your own hands, you will need:

  • hardboard slab or plywood, if you are going to create a plywood coffee table with your own hands or a transformer coffee table;
  • boards;
  • tape measure, which will help determine the size;
  • a hammer;
  • grinding machine;
  • 3-4 legs. If your plans include a round coffee table with your own hands, then you should take 3 legs;
  • hacksaw for woodworking;
  • drill and a set of drills;
  • screws, self-tapping screws, finishing nails;
  • putty and high-quality glue;
  • paint and primer;
  • sandpaper.

You may need additional tools, it all depends on what kind of coffee table you intend to make.

How to make a coffee table?

You can create a tea table with your own hands by following the scheme:

  1. Cut the ends of the boards at an angle of 45º, cut out elements from wood material or chipboard, the length of which will be equal to the length of the blanks made.
  2. Place the parts in the center, carefully align the ends.
  3. Take measurements to determine the distance separating the extreme bars. Using the parameters obtained, cut out a pair of blanks that will be used as the lower supports. Fasten them with screws. Screw fasteners into each longitudinal rail to give the table strength and stability.
  4. Drill a couple of holes at the ends of the support rails, which will be useful for integrating the structure with other elements. If you do not have enough experience with the tool, practice by taking unnecessary wood trimmings.
  5. Place the workpieces on the sides, secure with a quick-clamping device called a clamp. Masters who create a coffee table from chipboard or from softwood (pine solid wood) do this: they put board trimmings under the supports of the fasteners. By doing so, they avoid marks left on the surface.
  6. Firmly fix the extreme bars on the base, screw the screws into the holes made in advance.
  7. Take measurements to find out the width of the base made (this is necessary in order to understand how long the blank for the end part should be). Experts say: “I assemble a thing with an accuracy of a millimeter, because I take a sip with a small margin in length, and carefully grind off extra centimeters.” When making a wooden coffee table, use the advice.
  8. Moisten the end parts with water, apply adhesive, assemble the individual parts. Make a belt. This will allow you to fasten the structure together and fix it in a certain position. For a stronger bond, use carnations for finishing work.
  9. Process the assembled coffee table with sandpaper with your own hands, removing irregularities. The gaps formed at the site of the seams must be filled with a putty mass.
  10. Color the assembled coffee table, made by yourself, using the finished project.
  11. Place mounting plates on the lower crossbars of future coffee tables, which will later be useful for making the lower part. Make holes and screw the legs into them.

Do-it-yourself transformer coffee table is a little more difficult to make, however, the coffee table assembly scheme is approximately identical.

A transforming table, made from improvised materials with your own hands, will complement the room and make it more functional. Transformer for the living room - this is optimal for the room.

DIY coffee table on wheels

1 2 3

If desired, you can assemble a table from chipboard with your own hands on wheels. A folding coffee table is very convenient to use, as it allows you to move furniture from place to place without any extra effort. An original coffee table with your own hands is quite a feasible task. Make a lunch option according to the algorithm presented above, and then fix the wheels on the legs. You can remove this part from an old cart and equip a dining or stylish folding table from boards for magazines or other accessories.

To fix fixtures at home, use high-quality screws. Attach the wheels to the base of the structure, making sure that they do not peek out from under the bottom. It is unacceptable that the plinth makes it difficult to move the homemade table. Adjust the location that the coffee table will occupy: low or high level of supports. It is important that the wheels turn without difficulty, allowing you to move the table.

DIY glass coffee table

Tables with glass are very presentable and practical. The transparent top is perfectly combined with various types of materials. To make a coffee table out of wood with a glass top, decide how thick the glass needs to be and choose the appropriate method for cutting it.

To make a glass coffee table with your own hands, you will need a furniture board in which a hole of the desired shape is cut. Next, you need to fix the pre-cut glass in it (for this purpose it is most convenient to use a glazing bead). In the presence of a glass cutter, it is better to use this particular device, which ensures high-quality work.

There are two main types of glass cutter: roller and diamond type. Devices of the first type are suitable for working on a thinner glass plate, whose thickness is not more than 4 cm. The tool includes from 1 to 6 rollers. There must be a cut line. Experts say that models with an oil reservoir have the best properties. They are great for both professionals and beginners.

Carefully prepare the glass before cutting, that is, rinse it and degrease it. If you are dealing with a relief surface, then a diamond glass cutter is absolutely not suitable for working on it. Cut such a plate, turning the smooth side towards you. When cutting with a roller glass cutter, make sure that the line is completely covered with turpentine liquid.

After the glass has been cut, fix it using special glue. If there is no adhesive available, it is allowed to use suction cups for making furniture in the Provence style with your own hands, which are attached first to the leg and then to the glass.

If desired, the table with your own hands can be decorated with a variety of decorative elements, which will make it even more presentable and modern. Table-suitcase for travel lovers

A very original solution for an old favorite suitcase that has seen other lands with you and that you don’t want to throw away because of the memories.

How to do?

To get started, go to the store where you will need to purchase furniture legs ( wooden or metal). If you want to make a mobile table - then you need to take the wheels. You will also need plywood, screws and a screwdriver.

Now we make markings on the bottom of the suitcase for future legs and drill holes. Since it will not work to attach the legs to the fabric, we put plywood inside the suitcase, make markings on it through the holes and also drill it. Now we attach the mount to the bottom of the suitcase and fasten the legs. Using hot glue, glue the felt inside the suitcase.

To give the table an original look, reminiscent of distant travels, you can decorate it with stickers made in the form of stamps, or decorate it at your discretion.

That's all - an unusual coffee table is ready! By the way, there are a lot of options for turning suitcases into tables: by choosing the legs to your liking, you can make a table in style retro or classical. You can not attach the legs at all if you have a massive suitcase - it will look truly incredible: such a table will bring a sense of adventure and adventure into the interior, the spirit of travel and unexplored distant countries.

Log table for nature lovers

We take wooden bars (in this case, birch) of the same height and width, only 32 pieces. You also need to take the base for the table, legs (4 pieces), putty to match the wood, a screwdriver and glue designed for wooden surfaces.

First you need to assemble the base for the table, then glue wooden bars around the perimeter, and sew up the middle with cardboard. Then we fasten the legs to the bottom. Next, we glue thin wooden dies to the inner surface - thanks to this, it will seem that the table is completely wooden. Now we take the putty and carefully close up all the voids, after which we overwrite until an absolutely flat surface is created. Voila! Now you are the owner of an extraordinary table that will become the highlight of your interior.

If you like the idea, you can create other tables according to this scheme, using, for example, branches instead of bars. To create such a table, you need to take a plywood box, painted black paint, the size of which is 40x40x60 cm (or any other size at your discretion).

To glue the frame, we take branches, from which we first remove the loosely holding bark (we do this with sandpaper). What is the procedure for gluing: first we glue the branches on the long side of the table, and then we select wooden dies and, as mosaic, lay them out on the ends. The thickness of the dies should be approximately 1 cm, they can be cut with a parquet or circular saw. And finally - install the glass, which will be the countertop. If desired, by screwing wheel supports to the table, it can be made mobile.

Using the same technology, you can create many more unusual pieces of furniture. You can lay out the branches horizontally and then you get such a wonderful table. Such furniture looks not only very original, but also incredibly stylish.

original pallet table

An idea that came to the mind of someone truly brilliant. It would seem that you can come up with pallets, which are probably lying around in every dacha? And you can make them a very convenient and functional element of the interior.

How to do?

To get started, collect all the tools you need for your idea: the pallet itself, a drill, clamps, a hammer, screws, a nail puller, glue designed for wood, wheels, soap, a primer, a screwdriver. In addition, take paint brushes, a petal brush head with abrasive bristles for a drill, varnish and a colorless primer.

First of all, you should take a drill with a nozzle designed for wood processing, and clean the surface of the boards from contamination with it. Now carefully disassemble the sanded pallet into parts. Lightly tap the rusty nails with a large hammer and carefully pull them out with a nail puller. Glue the broken pieces of boards with wood glue. At this stage you will need clamps. They need to carefully clamp the boards and wait until they dry out.

Now the parts prepared for the countertop need to be nailed and glued on the reverse side, then clamped with clamps and wait until they dry.

Then cover the table with a colorless primer, and then varnish. Next, on the back of the table, mark the places for the screws to attach the wheels. Drill holes for the fasteners. In order for the screws to easily enter the wood, grease them with soap. Using a ratchet, you can quickly and conveniently tighten hex screws.

Stylish, compact and quite functional table is ready!

Table from boxes

Another original idea captivates with its simplicity and surprise - well, who would have thought to build a table from boxes? But it has come, and now you yourself can create such an unusual piece of furniture at home. Surely you yourself will be delighted, and your guests will appreciate the originality of this idea.

How to do?

Take 4 wooden boxes, sandpaper, water-based varnish, roller and brush, dowels, 10 mm plywood sheet, PVA glue, 4 wheels and self-tapping screws.

First you need to sand the boxes and varnish them. Then, using a drill with an emphasis, make holes at the ends of the boxes. Using wood glue, you need to fix the dowels in the attachment points and connect the ends of the boxes to each other. Attach the wheels to the plywood sheet, and then attach the sheet to the boxes with self-tapping screws. The table is ready!

These extraordinary things can be created from quite ordinary materials. Having imagination and a desire for originality and comfort in your home, you can easily work wonders. Look around: maybe the old window frame has every chance to turn into an interesting element of the interior?

Or maybe a huge wooden reel from an industrial cable that can become an elegant piece of furniture?

Even a novice master can make a table from improvised materials. But before assembling a coffee table with your own hands, it is better to view the drawings and diagrams in advance. This will allow you to decide on the shape of future furniture and cut off too complex options.

Do-it-yourself drawings and diagrams of coffee tables

It is comfortable, lightweight and versatile. For the rigidity of the frame, the underframe is assembled from legs and a drawer - a rectangle connecting the legs and supporting the tabletop. Otherwise, the legs will move apart and the table will lose its stability.

At the same time, the complexity of the assembly does not increase much, but now you can store books, notebooks or other trinkets in the coffee table.

A feature of this design is the absence of legs - they are replaced by four sidewalls, to which a ready-made folding mechanism is attached from the inside. To it, on a short pair of supports, a wide board is fixed - the underframe, and a double tabletop is attached to the high supports, which, in the unfolded version, rests on the underframe.

PVC pipe magazine table

The simplest and most economical, but very original version of a coffee table is to make it from plastic pipes. The shape and height depend only on the wild imagination. It can be a small round table that functions as a bedside table or a full-fledged coffee table with a glass top.

To create it you will need:

  • pipes of two diameters - thicker for the legs and narrower for the underframe, for example, 16 and 9 mm;
  • glue gun or a tube of transparent superglue;
  • medium grit sandpaper;
  • hacksaw for cutting plastic pipes (can be replaced with a saw for wood);
  • acrylic paint to hide the printed markings on the pipes.

The process itself is simple to disgrace:

  1. Cylinders of the selected length are cut. 4 legs are made from a thick pipe - their length will be equal to the height of the future table (40-50 cm). 30 short cylinders are cut from a narrow pipe, on average 10-15 cm (depending on the shape of the table, the number can be changed).
  2. You need to start assembling the base from the center - so there will definitely not be large gaps between the cylinders. Glue is applied to the entire surface of the adjacent pipes. A little trick - to accurately glue the cylinders, liquid superglue is poured from the end of the pipes so that it stacks down the entire length of the joint. With a glue gun, the joints are simply processed from the outside - after painting they will become invisible.
  3. When the desired shape is reached, the legs are glued - you need to make sure that the diagonal distance between them is equal. Otherwise, the table will fall on one side.
  4. The final step is painting. The easiest way to do this is with an aerosol method, although you can also use a simple paint brush.

When laying a glass top on your table, you should choose tempered glass with a thickness of 10 mm. To prevent the removable tabletop from sliding on the base, use silicone shock absorbers for furniture.

If a non-removable countertop is planned, it is fixed with transparent silicone glue.

Assembling a wooden coffee table with your own hands

For admirers of the classic style, there is nothing better than a wooden table. For him, you need to stock up:

  • planed bar 40x40 mm - for legs;
  • planed board 50x20 mm - for the side;
  • a finished worktop made of furniture board 800x400 mm (but MDF or plywood is also suitable);
  • putty for wood - overwrite holes from self-tapping screws;
  • sandpaper or a grinding nozzle on a drill - process wood;
  • varnish or paint - for finishing the table.

Of the tools you will need a screwdriver (or screwdriver), a saw for wood and a drill. After cutting the bar into legs, and the boards into the drawer side, the assembly of the table itself begins:

  1. The underframe is assembled first. For convenience and ease of assembly, everything is done upside down. Sidewalls to the legs are attached obliquely with self-tapping screws through pre-drilled holes. But you can also use metal corners if aesthetics are not so important.

Wooden tables are not only made from planed wood. With minimal woodworking skills, you can create original furniture even from firewood. For example, picking up a wooden block of suitable height and a pair of Y-shaped thick branches, working a little with a grinding nozzle and varnishing everything, you get an excellent massive coffee table for a summer residence.

And if after the construction of the house there are several euro pallets left, there is no need to rush to dispose of them. It's almost a finished table!

It is enough to grind and stain the surface, put them one on top of the other and securely connect them together. And to make the table mobile, 4 wheels are screwed from below, 2 of which are with brakes.

Decorating a coffee table with epoxy resin

If there is a sawmill nearby and there you can get a sawn board with a lot of defects for a pittance - just great! It is from such materials that the most beautiful tables decorated with epoxy resin are obtained.

The process is time consuming but not overly complicated:

  1. The cut board is glued with wood glue into the countertop. Flat boards must be placed under the clamps - for uniform fixation.
  2. After the glue has completely dried, the tabletop is polished, all cracks and holes from knots are cleaned. Before applying epoxy, the surface must be cleaned of dust and small chips.
  3. To make the table glow effectively, use luminescent paint in powder. About 100 g of paint is needed for 2 liters of the finished resin solution. Resin and hardener are mixed 1:1, the dose should be measured accurately and so that the hand does not flinch. Too much hardener will cause the resin to crack, while a lack of hardener will delay the curing period.

Such a tabletop is suitable for a coffee table in the living room of a cottage, and in the bedroom of a city apartment.

If there are several meters of wooden bars left at home, you can even make a table out of them! The video shows in detail and clearly how to make unusual designer furniture from building debris:

How to prepare do-it-yourself drawings with dimensions for a coffee table

Even those people who did not draw at school are faced with the need to work according to the drawings. For the manufacture of some models, a drawing may not be required, but for a coffee table made of wood with your own hands you cannot do without it.

To build their own drawing, they are armed with a large sheet of paper, a pencil, a ruler and a tape measure. The dimensions of the future product are measured with a tape measure, it must fit freely into the allotted place in the room.

All dimensions are fixed, and with the help of a ruler they are transferred to paper. All parts are cut according to the drawings. Do not forget to add the thickness of the legs and countertops to the drawing.

What materials can a coffee table be made from?

Let's decide what kind of model should be in the room. There are different options, and each has its own nuances.

In any case, it will not be superfluous to prepare a hacksaw, a hammer, scissors, pliers, fasteners, carpentry or furniture glue, screws and nails.

Prepare 11 tires of the same diameter. We take two tires on the chair and connect them with ourselves using a screwdriver and self-tapping screws. For the table we take three tires.
We cut out 4 circles from plywood (pressed chips) with a size slightly larger than the inner diameter of the tire, and one large circle for the countertop.
The result is a cute garden set.

Table-suitcase

Do you have an old suitcase? How wonderful!

So, what is needed for such a rapid transformation? Four stable legs of any type - the main thing is that they are combined with the final decor option and easily withstand the product. Legs can be bought on Avito or torn off from old unnecessary furniture, made on a lathe. As a painting, you can take white enamel, as it is easy to decorate. But, in general, the color can be any, up to gilding. If the appearance of the suitcase is perfectly preserved, then you can not paint it. If you wish, you also need PVA glue, decoupage napkins, brushes, sandpaper, gold or silver acrylic.

First paint the base and let it dry. All irregularities are sanded, and a second layer of enamel is applied. Now we paint the legs and, as soon as they dry, glue them with furniture glue to the base. That's all the work! We turn the table and admire the result of labor.
