Eduard Nikolaevich Uspensky was born in 1937. He began his career as a humorist, he, together with A. Arkanov, published several humorous books. By his own admission, he got into children's literature by accident.

His children's poems began to be published as humorous ones in the Literary Gazette, they sounded in the radio program Good Morning! Eduard Uspensky acted as the author of cartoon scripts, many of which are loved by more than one generation of viewers. The novel "Gena the Crocodile and His Friends", first published in 1966, brought great fame to the children's writer.

Her characters, Crocolil Gena and Cheburashka, have been living in several cartoons for several decades now. No less success fell to the lot of adventures of friends from Prostokvashino - Uncle Fyodor, Sharik, cat Matroskin. And they also found their on-screen incarnation. In addition, Eduard Uspensky wrote for the popular children's program "Baby Monitor", for the TV program "ABVGDeyka", now he is broadcasting "Ships have entered our harbor."

The writer's works have been translated into more than 25 languages, his books have been published in Finland, Holland, France, Japan, and the USA. Recently, Eduard Uspensky announced that he had completed many years of work on a series of historical novels that tell about the period of False Dmitry and the Time of Troubles.

How the boy Yasha climbed everywhere

The boy Yasha always liked to climb everywhere and climb into everything. As soon as some suitcase or box was brought, Yasha immediately found himself in it.

And he climbed into all sorts of bags. And in closets. And under the tables.

Mom often said:

- I'm afraid, I'll come with him to the post office, he will get into some empty parcel, and he will be sent to Kyzyl-Orda.

He got very good for it.

And then Yasha took a new fashion - he began to fall from everywhere. When it was distributed in the house:

- Eh! - everyone understood that Yasha had fallen from somewhere. And the louder the “uh” was, the greater was the height from which Yasha flew. For example, mother hears:

- Eh! - so it's no big deal. This Yasha just fell off the stool.

If you hear:

- Eee! - so it's a very serious matter. It was Yasha who plopped down from the table. I need to go and look at his bumps. And on a visit, Yasha climbed everywhere, and even tried to climb on the shelves in the store.

One day my dad said:

- Yasha, if you climb somewhere else, I don’t know what I will do with you. I'll tie you to the vacuum cleaner with ropes. And you will walk everywhere with a vacuum cleaner. And you will go to the store with your mother with a vacuum cleaner, and in the yard you will play in the sand tied to a vacuum cleaner.

Yasha was so frightened that after these words he did not climb anywhere for half a day.

And then, nevertheless, he climbed onto the table with his dad and crashed together with the phone. Dad took it and actually tied it to a vacuum cleaner.

Yasha walks around the house, and the vacuum cleaner follows him like a dog. And he goes to the store with his mother with a vacuum cleaner, and plays in the yard. Very uncomfortable. Neither you climb the fence, nor ride a bicycle.

But Yasha learned to turn on the vacuum cleaner. Now instead of "uh" constantly began to be heard "uu".

But just then a very wonderful case turned up - they bought a new wardrobe.

He decided to climb into the closet.

Yasha moved the dining table to the closet and climbed on it. But he did not reach the top of the cabinet.

- Yasha, eat porridge.

Papa says:

- I do not want.

Mom and dad got tired of persuading him every time. And then my mother read in one scientific pedagogical book that children should not be persuaded to eat. It is necessary to put a plate of porridge in front of them and wait for them to get hungry and eat everything.

And Yasha felt embarrassed that he put his grandmother on the floor, he put his toy gun in her suitcase, the most expensive one.

The gun was a toy, but just like a real one. From it, you could even kill anyone you want for real. Only pretend. Yasha never parted with him. He even slept with this gun.

In general, the grandmother was saved by all the people. And she went somewhere.

Mom Yasha raised for a long time. She said he would kill my mother. That mom is ashamed to look people in the eye. And Yasha promised not to run like that again. And they went to another store for sour cream. Only Yasha's promises did not last long in Yasha's head. And he started running again.

A little at first, then more and more. And it must happen that the old woman came to the same store for margarine. She walked slowly and did not immediately appear there.

As soon as she appeared, Yasha immediately ran into her.

The old woman did not even have time to gasp, as she was again on the floor. And everything fell apart from her suitcase again.

Then the grandmother began to swear strongly:

- What kind of children are gone! You can't go to any store! They jump on you right away. I never ran like this when I was little. If I had a gun, I would shoot such children!

And everyone sees that the grandmother really has a gun in her hands. Totally, completely real.

They quietly disappeared from the store.

But after this incident, Yasha never ran in stores. I didn't dangle from corner to corner like crazy. On the contrary, he helped his mother. Mom gave him the biggest bag.

And once Yasha saw this grandmother with a suitcase again in the store. He even rejoiced. He said:

- Look, mom, this grandmother has already been released!

How the boy Yasha with one girl decorated themselves

Once Yasha and his mother came to visit another mother. And this mother had a daughter, Marina. The same age as Yasha, only older.

Yasha's mother and Marina's mother got down to business. They drank tea, changed children's clothes. And the girl Marina Yasha called into the hallway. And says:

- Come on, Yasha, play at the hairdresser's. To a beauty salon.

Yasha immediately agreed. He, when he heard the word "play", he threw everything: and porridge, and books, and a broom. He even broke away from cartoon films if he needed to play. And he never even played at the hairdresser's.

All the children walk through the autumn forest, collect leaves in bouquets. They swing on the swings.

And Yasha is taken home to dry.

They put him on the radiator to warm himself, and his shoes hang on a string over the gas stove.

And dad and mom noticed that the more Yasha stands in puddles, the more he catches a cold. He has a runny nose and cough. Snot is pouring from Yasha, no handkerchiefs are missing.

Yasha noticed it too. And his father said to him:

- Yasha, if you run even more through the puddles, you will not only have snot in your nose, you will have frogs in your nose. Because you have a whole swamp in your nose.

Yasha, of course, did not really believe in this.

But one day, dad took a handkerchief into which Yasha was blown and put two little green frogs in it.

He made them himself. Cut out of viscous chewing sweets. There are such rubber sweets for children, they are called "Bunty-plunty". And my mother put this handkerchief in the locker for Yasha's things.

As soon as Yasha came back from the walk all wet, mom said:

- Come on, Yasha, let's blow our nose. Let's get the snot out of you.

Mom took a handkerchief from the shelf and put it to Yasha's nose. Yasha let's blow your nose with all your might. And suddenly mom sees something moving in the scarf. Mom is scared from head to toe.

- Yasha, what is it?

And Yasha shows two frogs.

Yasha, too, will be frightened, because he remembered what his father told him.

Mom asks again:

- Yasha, what is it?

Yasha says:

- Frogs.

– Where are they from?

- Out of me.

Mom asks:

- And how many of them do you have?

Yasha doesn't even know. He says:

- That's it, mom, I won't run through the puddles anymore. My dad told me that this would be the end of it. Blow me out one more time. I want all the frogs to fall out of me.

Mom began to blow his nose again, but there were no more frogs.

And my mother tied these two frogs on a rope and carried them in her pocket. As soon as Yasha runs up to the puddle, she will pull the rope and show the frogs to Yasha.

Yasha immediately - stop! And in a puddle - not a foot! Very good boy.

How the boy Yasha painted everywhere

We bought pencils for the boy Yasha. Bright, colored. A lot - about ten. Yes, they seem to be in a hurry.

Mom and dad thought that Yasha would sit in a corner behind the closet and draw Cheburashka in a notebook. Or flowers, different houses. Cheburashka is the best. He is a pleasure to draw. Four circles in total. Circle head, circle ears, circle belly. And then scratch your paws, that's all. The children are happy and so are the parents.

Only Yasha did not understand what he was aimed at. He began to draw kalyaki. As soon as he sees where the white sheet is, he immediately draws a scribble.

First, on my father's table, I drew kalyaki on all the white sheets. Then in my mother's notebook: where his mother (Yashina) wrote down bright thoughts.

And then anywhere else.

Mom comes to the pharmacy for medicines, submits a prescription through the window.

“We don’t have such a medicine,” says the pharmacist’s aunt. “Scientists have not invented such a medicine yet.

Mom looks at the recipe, and there are only scribbles drawn, nothing is visible under them. Mom, of course, is angry:

- You would, Yasha, if you spoil the paper, at least draw a cat or a mouse.

The next time, mom opens a notebook to call another mom, and there is such joy - a mouse is drawn. Mom even dropped the book. So she got scared.

And this Yasha drew.

Dad comes to the clinic with a passport. They tell him:

- What are you, a citizen, just out of prison, so thin! From jail?

– Why else? Dad is surprised.

- In your photo, the grate is visible red.

Dad at home was so angry with Yasha that he took away the brightest red pencil from him.

And Yasha turned around even more. He began to draw kalyaki on the walls. I took it and painted all the flowers on the wallpaper with a pink pencil. Both in the hallway and in the living room. Mom was horrified:

- Yasha, guard! Are there flowers in a box!

They took away his pink pencil. Yasha was not very upset. The next day, on my mother's white shoes, he painted all the straps in green. And painted the handle on my mother's white purse green.

Mom to go to the theater, and her shoes and handbag, like a young clown, are striking. For this, Yasha got a little in the ass (for the first time in his life), and the green pencil was also taken away from him.

“We have to do something,” Dad says. - Until all the pencils of our young talent run out, he will turn the whole house into a coloring book.

They began to issue pencils to Yasha only under the supervision of the elders. Either his mother is watching him, or his grandmother will be called. But they are not always free.

And then the girl Marina came to visit.

Mom said:

- Marina, you are already big. Here are pencils for you, you and Yasha draw. There are cats and mice. The cat is drawn like this. The mouse is like this.

Yasha and Marina understood everything and let's create cats and mice everywhere. First on paper. Marina will draw a mouse:

- This is my mouse.

Yasha will draw a cat:

- That's my cat. She ate your mouse.

“My mouse had a sister,” says Marina. And draws another mouse nearby.

“And my cat also had a sister,” says Yasha. “She ate your mouse sister.”

“And my mouse had another sister,” Marina draws a mouse on the refrigerator to get away from Yasha’s cats.

Yasha also goes to the refrigerator.

“And my cat had two sisters.

So they moved throughout the apartment. More and more sisters appeared in our mice and cats.

Yasha's mother finished talking with Marina's mother, she looks - the whole apartment is covered in mice and cats.

“Guard,” she says. - Just three years ago, they did the renovation!

They called dad. Mom asks:

- What, shall we flush? Shall we renovate the apartment?

Papa says:

- In no case. Let's leave it all.

- Why? Mom asks.

- That's why. When our Yasha grows up, let him look at this disgrace with adult eyes. Let him be ashamed then.

Otherwise, he simply won’t believe us that he could be so outrageous as a child.

And Yasha was already ashamed even now. Although he is still small. He said:

- Dad and mom, you fix everything. I will never paint on the walls again! I will only be in the album.

And Yasha kept his word. He himself did not really want to draw on the walls. It was his girl Marina who led him astray.

When Edik was an unintelligent child, he played this Cheburashka. And then he grew up and forgot about his plush animal. The man had other things to do. For example, it was necessary to urgently dig a wide and long snowy passage to the camp of the “enemy”. Or lie in wait for some “non-dangerous” old woman in the yard and scare her with an exploding piston.
Time, of course, was short. It was also not enough for lessons. That's why Edik studied poorly. And so that my parents would not scold me too much, I mastered one important and necessary art. How to cut deuces from a diary. Imperceptibly so, with a razor.
No, Edik was not at all going to remain a loser all his life. In the depths of his soul, he cherished a dream - to become a minister or an academician. At worst, a very successful gold digger!
Since there are no academics with two grades, Edik was always going to "take off" - from Monday to start studying well. But it didn't work to 'break'.
The schoolboy Uspensky was rescued by chance. Once, a boy not too deliberately jumped from the roof. As a result, he ended up in the hospital with a broken leg. There was nothing to do there, so he asked his parents to bring him various books and, to the amazement of those around him, began to study. Yes, so stubbornly that he could later finish school well, and enter the aviation institute, and even become an engineer.
Uspensky worked in his specialty for three years. And then he suddenly realized that he was doing something wrong in life. He turned out to be an active engineer, but stupid. And suddenly two long noses appeared from around the corner - the tame rat Lariska and the hooligan old woman Shapoklyak. The door of a telephone booth slammed, and an incomprehensible plush animal got out. "It's Cheburashka!" Ouspensky guessed. And he began to tell his famous tale.
The story about Cheburashka and the crocodile Gena really liked the little listeners. But for some reason, the adult bosses did not like it at all. "Cheburashka has no Motherland!" they exclaimed. “And it’s generally unknown what kind of fruit it is (that is, excuse me, the beast)!”
Despite everything, the book was still printed. And then another, no less famous essay appeared - "Uncle Fyodor, a dog and a cat."
But many readers rejoiced early. Because adult uncles and aunts once decided not to publish books by Eduard Uspensky at all (there wasn’t enough paper for everyone?). But for some reason they allowed to shoot several cartoons based on them (they themselves probably watched cartoons with their grandchildren in the evenings).
But Ouspensky continued to compose anyway. Not only poems and fairy tales, but also plays, screenplays; broadcast on radio and television. Of course, “Baby Monitor” and “ABVGDeyka” are now remembered only by fathers and mothers or even grandparents, but the program “Ships Came to Our Harbor”, which Eduard Nikolaevich invented and has been running for twenty years, has a huge number of quite young fans.
But what about television and radio broadcasts! Once Ouspensky came up with a whole book publishing house - "Samovar" is called. Eduard Nikolayevich has a lot of ideas in general. For example, now he dreams of his own animation studio and a real Disneyland in the city of Anapa. There will definitely be a jungle with Gena the crocodile, the Blue Carriage slides and much, much more, and it will be called Uspensky Park.
But what about books? The writer has complete order with them. Eduard Nikolaevich writes and publishes them with enviable constancy. So the company of his literary heroes is growing all the time. Recently, a girl with a strange name Maksha and a gutta-percha boy Geveichik appeared there.
Like a good father, Eduard Uspensky looks after his vast family and always knows exactly what is happening to whom and who travels where. For example, “The Finns adore Uncle Fedor, in America the favorite is the old woman Shapoklyak. Everyone there is in love with her. Well, the Japanese are just crazy about Cheburashka…” Who will be the next hero? Only the writer himself can answer this question. But he does not like to answer such questions. He doesn't like interviews at all.
What he really loves is, having left the city, to lock himself in his house so that no one interferes, and write, write, write ...

Biography

Eduard Uspensky was born on December 22, 1937 in Yegorievsk. The writer's father worked in the apparatus of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of the Soviet Union, and his mother worked as a mechanical engineer.

In 1955 Uspensky entered the Moscow Aviation Institute. Already in his student time, he began to engage in literary work. His poems and feuilletons were regularly posted in the institute's wall newspaper. And since 1960, the writer published them in pop collections, the Nedelya newspaper and the Crocodile magazine.

After graduating from high school (1961), Uspensky worked for three and a half years at the Second Moscow Instrument-Making Plant.

The beginning of creative activity

In 1965, Uspensky, together with Felix Kamov, headed the author's group of the student pop-satirical theater of the MAI "TV". And in 1966, the Moscow publishing house "Art" published a collection of humorous stories for the stage "Four under one cover." These four were Eduard Uspensky, Felix Kamov, Arkady Arkanov and Grigory Gorin.

Books for children

Ouspensky began writing for children in the mid-1960s. Five years later (1965), the publishing house "Children's Literature" published his first book - a collection of poems "Funny Elephant".

The famous fairy tale "Crocodile Gena and his friends" was published in 1966. Crocodile Gena and Cheburashka become the favorite characters of children and adults. Not only in the USSR, but also abroad.

In 1969, director-animator Roman Kachanov staged the puppet animated film Crocodile Gena based on the scripts of Eduard Uspensky. In 1971, "Cheburashka" came out. Then came "Shapoklyak" (1974), "Cheburashka goes to school" (1983).

Together with Kachanov, Uspensky wrote the plays Cheburashka and His Friends (1970) and Gena the Crocodile's Vacation (1974). In the 2000s, animated films about Cheburashka were made in Japan.

Uncle Fedor, dog and cat

A fairy tale story about a boy whom everyone called Uncle Fyodor was published in 1974. According to Uspensky's book, director Vladimir Popov in 1978 made the animated films "Three from Prostokvashino". And the popular favorite cat Matroskin was voiced by the famous actor Oleg Tabakov. Two years later, "Vacations in Prostokvashino" came out, and in 1984 "Winter in Prostokvashino". These cartoons, as well as the books they were based on, have become favorites for people of all ages for many years.

Ouspensky also wrote fairy tales Down the Magic River (1972), Warranty Men (1975), School of Clowns (1983), Kolobok Follows the Trail and more.

Ouspensky's writings have been translated into 25 languages. According to his scripts and works, 60 animated films were shot. This is the famous "Antoshka", "Ivashka from the Palace of Pioneers", "Koloboks are investigating" and other equally famous and beloved works.

Ouspensky's childhood and youth

The future writer was born in 1937 in the small town of Yegorievsk, which is located in the Moscow region. His parents were educated people, they had Edward - not the only child in the family, the boy had an older brother Igor, and later Yuri was born. After the start of the war, young Edward, along with his mother and brothers, was evacuated. Until 1944, the family lived in the Urals.

Returning to Moscow, the future writer went to school, but did not study very well. Only in the seventh grade did he begin to make progress in his studies, mathematics was best given to him. A big role in Edward's passion for reading was played by his stepfather Nikolai Stepanovich Pronsky, who had a huge library, carefully kept books and forbade exchanging them for food.

The first experiments in versification date back to the time when the young Uspensky was in the ninth grade. At that time, writing was a fashionable hobby. Ouspensky's poetic works were published in literary newspapers and sounded from radios. An important role in the development of Uspensky as a writer of children's books was played by the experience of working in camps as a pioneer leader.

Adult Assumption

Having become a student of the Moscow Aviation Institute, Eduard Uspensky continued to engage in literary activities. After graduating from a higher educational institution in 1961, he went to work at a factory in his specialty. Together with G. Gorin, A. Arkanov and F. Kamov, the writer took part in the creation of the book “Four Under One Cover”, which quickly became popular. Thanks to this, Eduard Uspensky and Felix Kamov organized the student theater "TV". The success was enormous.

Later, the writer became the founder of the programs “Good night, kids”, “ABVGDeika”, “Baby monitor”, “Ships entered our harbor”. For his creative work, he was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree.

Eduard Uspensky was married three times. From his first marriage, he has a daughter, Tatiana, from his second brother, daughters Irina and Svetlana. The third marriage broke up in 2011, the couple had no children.

Creative activity of the writer

1965 was marked by the release of a collection of poems by Eduard Uspensky "Everything is in order", which immediately received recognition from readers. However, Ouspensky's most famous works are books for a children's audience. Crocodile Uncle Fyodor, Matroskin and Sharik, postman Pechkin - there is hardly a child who does not know these characters. It was thanks to Ouspensky that the children's animated series "Fixies" was born, which is so loved by modern young viewers. It is based on Uspensky's story "Guaranteed little men", which was born in 1974.

Children's writer Uspensky

Cheburashka is one of the most famous characters created by this author. Together with his friends - the crocodile Gena, the doll Galya, the loser Dima, the excellent student Marusya - he opened the House of Friendship. This event formed the basis of the story "and his friends." This work was written in prose form, before that Uspensky wrote poetic texts. The heroes of the writer were so fond of the audience that several more stories, novellas and plays were published from his pen, in which new exciting adventures awaited friends.

In 2012, the Russian Ministry of Education and Science included the first story about the adventures of the crocodile Gena and Cheburashka in the list of one hundred books that are recommended for middle-aged students to read on their own.

A cycle of stories about Uncle Fyodor

For many years, Ouspensky's works about a boy named Uncle Fyodor and his animal friends: a cat named Matroskin and a dog named Sharik have enjoyed great success among readers. The first story from this cycle was published in 1974. There are seven books in total. Ouspensky's fairy tales were so popular that they became the basis for animated films. In the period from 1975 to 2011, five cartoons hit the TV screens telling about the adventures of the smart boy Uncle Fyodor and his talking animal friends.

The last was the cartoon "Spring in Prostokvashino". Matroskin and Sharik receive a letter from Uncle Fyodor, in which the boy says that he will arrive soon. His parents will follow him. However, the old house is too small to accommodate all the guests. And then Uncle Fyodor turns to a construction company for help, which quickly built a modern cottage.

The audience met the cartoon ambiguously. The audience criticized the art, which is very different from the original. The plot and "Mail.ru" also caused a lot of discontent.
