The price of popular Chinese garage lamps clearly does not correspond to the quality. The wire immediately frays, the light bulb and body instantly become hot - there are many disadvantages. But convenient portability for the garage is a snap. A minimum of parts is needed, and the quality of lighting and ease of use are much higher than that of Chinese consumer goods.

If you buy a carrier with energy-saving lamps, there is a significant disadvantage. When such a lantern breaks, especially in the inspection hole during minor work, mercury vapor remains in the room for a long time.

Conventional incandescent lamps consume a lot of energy and have to be changed frequently. In addition, the case heats up quickly and such lamps are completely unsuitable for carrying. Another story is modern LEDs and fluorescent lamps. The question is which option to choose for carrying.

Fluorescent lamps - advantages and disadvantages

The power consumption is low, the operating life is long, but by the end of the service the luminous flux becomes extremely low, almost doubled. Flickering and decreased light levels cause severe eye strain when working in the garage, so it is not advisable to use such carriers all the time. They are good when carrying is needed exclusively for one-time work.

Since all these lamps contain mercury components, it is not advisable to use them for a carrying lamp.

Gas-filled lamps

They consume a little electricity, five times less than incandescent lamps, but the brightness quickly decreases. Service life is three years. It is better to choose such lamps to replace conventional incandescent lamps, when it is easier to create normal light in the garage than to bother with wires and carriers.

LEDs

Choose LEDs with warm white light for your garage; base E27, G13 is the most economical and convenient option.

Lamps that are optimally used for carrying and options for stationary lighting:

  • if you need to make the light normal. throughout the garage, then choose LED lamps M-40/42 (passage). This is an analogue of fluorescent lamps with IP65 protection. These lamps are resistant to dirty work in the garage - dust and moisture. Power – 40 W;
  • For carrying, you need to select LEDs with a lighting angle that can be adjusted (up to 75 degrees). The power supply for such light bulbs is from a 24V unit;
  • Line Light diodes with a power of 14W do not heat up quickly and provide optimal local illumination;
  • A strip of diodes for emergency lighting can also be powered from a battery (12V). Choose a warm white spectrum, such a strip (60 LEDs) consumes only 4.8 W;
  • When carrying an LED light bulb, it is better to use a “corn” type light bulb with white light;
  • fluorescent lamps Osram 4000k at 40W in combination with Epra at 57W (at 40W there will be little illumination) - the light is simply super for painting and inspection pits.

Another story - a clothespin flashlight. And your hands are free, and you don’t have to fuss with lighting angles and wires.

We offer several options for simple and effective designs of portable lamps for the garage.

Carrying aluminum profile and diodes

Required components:

  • rectangular profile (aluminum) – length 40 cm, the choice of length depends on the number of light bulbs. You can take it shorter – 20 – 30 cm;
  • hook for fastening (butterfly);
  • metal drill;
  • 1 Volt LED lamps - from 4 to 6 pieces;
  • It is better to choose adhesive for fastening lamps that conducts heat;
  • collimator lenses - according to the number of light bulbs. Take the angle wider than sixty degrees;
  • LED driver with galvanic isolation, such drivers are designed for a small number of light bulbs (up to 7 LEDs of 1w each);
  • rubber cable - five meters;
  • fork;
  • double-sided tape for cell displays, ordinary construction tape is not suitable and any sealant;
  • a piece of cast plexiglass;
  • several bolts for fastenings.

The procedure for assembling the LED carrier:

  • cut holes in the profile for lenses of the required diameter;
  • in the top panel of our carrier we make holes for attaching the hook, according to the diameter of the bolts;
  • We fix the hook at the end of the body.

Advice. Choose a hook with a spring mechanism, this will make it more convenient to secure the carrier at the desired angle. The spring additionally prevents the body from rotating while suspended.

  • It’s better not to save on lamps; choose products from trusted manufacturers;
  • We connect the LEDs by soldering; it is not advisable to twist the contacts. It is better not to install a substrate for an LED in a standard metal profile, since the lens will be above the profile;
  • cut out a protective panel of the required size from plexiglass;
  • We attach the LEDs to thermally conductive glue, insert the lenses and fix them with plexiglass;
  • In order for the glue to set well, the entire structure can be wrapped with threads and left for 24 hours;
  • Now you need to securely fasten the cable to the profile so that it does not fly out during operation. You can additionally solder the edge of the cable with PCB; twisting the cable alone will not be enough.

Important. Buy a rubber cable for homemade carrying. It is more durable and practical, easily withstands severe frosts and curls less.

  • Additionally, the cable in the profile needs to be fixed with any sealant; it will take a long time to dry - two days;
  • we attach the hook to the profile with bolts, for better tightness we put the bolts on silicone sealant;
  • glue two layers of tape onto the profile, insert the required number of lenses;
  • Now you can remove the top protective film of the tape and secure the protective plexiglass;
  • The driver can be mounted directly to the fork, so choose the right size fork that can accommodate a hole to mount the driver.

It may be easier to make a normal light in the garage, but carrying it is still needed for minor work in the pit under the body and under the hood, you can’t do without it.

Even if the garage is twilight, six watts is enough to provide good illumination of the desired area.

Ice carrying, powered by cigarette lighter

Quite good lighting can be done from a battery, for this you can make a simple 12 V carrier. This is an ideal option if the carrier is needed solely for quick repairs under the hood.

For such a lamp you need a few components:

  • body from an old fluorescent lamp;
  • ice lamps on LEDs SOV 84 – 2 pieces, length 17 cm, from daytime running lights per car;
  • we glue the diodes to the body;
  • place the assembled plate with lamps in the light diffuser;
  • we secure the cord with a roll or can be fixed firmly by soldering a plastic plug;
  • All that remains is to connect the wires to the power supply (DC to 12V).

With a voltage of 600 mA, the output power of such a carrier is 7.2 W, even if the garage is dim, such a lamp gives more light than a regular 220 W fluorescent lamp.

The carrier can be connected to any power supply with a direct current of 1 Ampere (220/12). If you solder the connector, it can work well from the cigarette lighter in the car.

Easy to carry that doesn't break

And if you need to do the simplest transfer quickly, then this option is also possible:

  • energy-saving light bulb (11 W or more;
  • a plastic bottle with a wide neck so that the cartridge can be screwed in firmly;
  • cartridge, cord with plug.

We cut a hole on one side of the bottle, the size of an energy-saving lamp; it is better to take a flat lamp, so the luminous flux is greater. We insert the cartridge with the connected cable into the neck of the bottle; additionally, you can fix it with glue.

We screw in the light bulb - you can connect the carrier to any outlet. If dropped, the plastic reliably protects the lamp from impacts.

Carrying LED Ceiling Light

Light is ok. at any angle it is possible if you make a portable structure from a regular LED ceiling lamp for 300 rubles. We cut the housing from any plastic to the size of the lamp so that it is stable.

From below, you can cut out a stand from tin and attach it to a stable leg with bolts or self-tapping screws.

We attach the lamp to the body with glue, trimming the edges if necessary to improve adhesion. All you have to do is connect the wires and you can use it.

A garage is more than just a place to park a car. It is also a workshop, a place of relaxation, and a club of interests. Therefore, the arrangement of the garage should be convenient and thoughtful. You need to place a lot of things in a small area, and they should be convenient to use. Homemade products for the garage will help with this. What people don’t do with their own hands. From a simple shelf to a complex device. You can make all this yourself. But you need to know how. Several ideas for modernizing a garage and a plan for their implementation are in the article.

Homemade garage: ideas for arrangement

Setting up a garage is a long process. You won’t be able to do everything right away. You have to constantly modernize, change, and create something new. In this case, they mainly use homemade products for the garage. It requires less money and is also a pleasure - making the right thing out of garbage is worth a lot.

Tire and wheel storage

Every car owner is faced with the problem of storing out-of-season “shoes” for the car. Where to put the tires is a sore point. In general, the way tires are stored depends on whether they are mounted on rims or not.

So tires with rims can be hung or stored lying down - in the form of a stack, stacking them one on top of the other. To hang tires, you can use luggage straps, chains, or a metal cable with a diameter of 4 mm or more in a polyethylene sheath. Fasten the belts to the ceiling, wall, or beam located above.

Another available method is to drive pins or hooks with a small bending radius into the wall. The distance between the hooks is slightly larger than the diameter of the tires. The length of the pins should be such that they do not protrude beyond the tire. You can fill them almost to the ceiling so that the wheels fit.

Tires without rims can only be stored standing up. Special shelves are made for them. They are usually welded from profiled pipes. 20*20 mm, maximum 30*30 mm. You can also use a corner. It is inconvenient to weld a round pipe, but cross members can be made from it - the tires fit and hold better in this case.

The width of the shelf is 4 times the width of the tire, plus a margin of 10-15 cm for some freedom. The height of the rear wall is slightly higher than the outer diameter of the wheel. The design is simple = from the side it resembles a right triangle. Having it, welding such a shelf will not be difficult.

A shelf for storing tires is an excellent homemade product for the garage. This is a factory option with a completely inhumane price tag. But you can borrow an idea - the crossbars can be rearranged depending on the size of the tires... you never know. A shelf for tires in a garage with limited space. No tires - you can fold the shelf

Such shelves are usually hung on the wall. But the place must be chosen so that light does not fall on the rubber - this will deteriorate it. Not the most complicated DIY projects for the garage, but very useful.

Workplace

Probably the largest number of homemade projects for the garage is related to the equipment of the workplace and tool storage systems. Moreover, this is not the only way to solve this problem. First of all, you need to decide where the workplace will be located. There are three options:

  • The entire width of the far wall. If the garage is of sufficient length and it is possible to “steal” about 1.5 meters. The advantage is that everything is located compactly, at hand, and does not interfere with walking along the car. The disadvantage of this solution is that you have to carry tools far away if work is carried out outdoors.

    Tabletop and many drawers. The main thing is to remember where everything is

  • Along one of the long walls. This arrangement is chosen if the garage is wide but not long enough. It makes sense to place the table and workbench to the left of the entrance - on the driver’s side. But this is not critical. The disadvantage of this arrangement of the workplace in the garage is that you have to move with some caution, but it is more convenient to bring/take out tools outside.

    The main thing is to place the tools correctly

  • Occupying one of the corners. This is an intermediate option. Moreover, one of the sides can be made longer, the other shorter.

    Placing a desktop in the corner of the garage and placing a sofa next to it is not a solution to the problem. Occupying two adjacent sides is a great idea.

A table or workbench for a garage is made of boards and covered with plywood. Inexpensive, quite reliable. If you have a welding machine and verification skills, you can weld a frame from a corner or profiled pipe. Again, it is better to sheathe it with moisture-resistant plywood. The result is a smooth, abrasion-resistant surface. You can, of course, use it, but the laminating layer is quickly damaged.

To prevent the space from wandering around, you can install shelves or make drawers under the countertop. Boxes are more convenient, but making them is still a hassle. It is quite possible to make shelves and put boxes made of plywood on them. Plastic boxes and baskets are also suitable. But the walls must be thick.

By the way, there is a useful idea - to make a rack for storing tools from used canisters. Find ones that have the handle on top. Then everything is simple - one of the sides is cut out and in the future this canister is used as a box.

It is not necessary to make a whole rack - it’s still difficult to remember where and what is located. But you can use the same principle to make drawers for shelves. By the way, you can stick inscriptions or pictures on the ends (with pictures, identification is faster). Such DIY projects for the garage bring satisfaction - creating a useful thing from garbage is a pleasant feeling.

Tool storage

The most difficult task is organizing tool storage in the garage. We need to make sure that everything is in order, but at the same time, is at hand and in sight. Moreover, closed boxes are suitable only for very organized people who always put the taken item back in its place. Otherwise, you will constantly rummage through drawers, forgetting where everything is. There are several ideas for convenient storage of small items and tools. These are very simple DIY projects for the garage.

An ordinary metal mesh will help to quickly solve the problem. A reinforcing mesh made of 2 mm wire, a 10 cm cage, is suitable. Attach it to the wall, bite off some rods, bend them, make hooks, crossbars, etc. out of them. You can buy special hooks that are attached to the mesh (available in stores that sell commercial equipment); ordinary double-sided hooks, which you can buy or make from wire, are also suitable.

A grid on the wall is a way to quickly organize tool storage

It is convenient to store screwdrivers on a special shelf. Take a board or plywood, 10-15 mm thick. The board must be sanded well so that there are no splinters. Then drill holes of different diameters in one or two rows in the plane. If the board is wide enough, you can make larger holes for chisels or even hammer handles. Clean all the chips again. Now we need to come up with a wall mount. You can use a regular bracket. Screwdrivers, chisels, and other similar materials are inserted into the holes. Convenient, fast, everything is in sight.

There are also useful homemade products for the garage that allow you to organize the storage of hand tools. Pliers, pliers, wire cutters, etc. placing it conveniently is problematic. Can be hung on a net. It’s convenient to remove, but not to hang. But there is a simple solution - attach a narrow board and put the tool on it. To make it sit comfortably, grind down the board on one side. When cut, it should look like an isosceles triangle.

Another simple idea for storing cordless tools, chargers and spare batteries for them. Make a shelf as in the photo above. In the lower part, cuts of different formats are made, and the upper parts are used as regular shelves. The idea is that everything is in one place, quickly taken out/installed in place. These garage DIY projects will make your workspace comfortable. It will be easy to maintain order.

Homemade carriers for the garage

Even with very good lighting in the garage itself or on the street during the day, visibility under the bottom of the car is very low. To illuminate the front of the work, portable lamps are used. These are the simplest DIY projects for the garage. With them you can begin the epic of arranging and equipping your garage space.

In its simplest form, it is a cartridge attached to a wire; a small screen with a hook can be attached to it. This is such a simple thing. The light bulbs used are ordinary ones - incandescent or economy ones with a standard socket. Everything is not bad, except that these light bulbs break very often, you need to figure out how to hang them so that they shine in a specific place. In general, the design needs improvement. There are several modification options.

Unbreakable lamp socket

This plastic bottle lampshade perfectly protects the fragile bulb of an energy-saving lamp. You can also use an LED lamp, but an incandescent lamp will not work - it gets too hot. The design is simple - a cord with a plug and a cartridge at the end.

The main task is to find a plastic vessel with walls made of translucent milky plastic of medium thickness. Transparent will not work - it will not scatter light, too thin walls will not save the lamp from impacts. After you have found a suitable vessel, some small change remains:

Everything is simple, but such a lamp allows you to brightly illuminate exactly the desired area, the rest of the space is filled with even light that does not hurt the eyes.

Carrying LED Recessed Light

The simplest and most common homemade products for the garage are portable lamps. Without them, it is inconvenient to work not only in, but even just on a workbench. You need a flat recessed LED lamp that can be turned on at 220 V. These models are called “tablets” because of their shape. You also need a cord with a plug and a piece of plastic window sill to install the lamp. The window sill piece should be larger in size than the lamp. You choose the specific sizes yourself. The next steps are:

That's it, the homemade carrier is ready. This option is for floor installation. The movable leg allows you to change the angle of inclination. To make it turn over less, you can attach a couple of weights inside the body (in its lower part).

Attach the carrying cord to the ceiling

Convenience comes from little things, and very simple homemade products for the garage help with this. For example, you can remove the cable from a portable lamp that always gets tangled under your feet. Carrying is usually done with a cheap cable. It is not the most flexible, does not fold well, and its coils on the floor get under your feet. In general, it is inconvenient to use. You can protect yourself and carry it by hanging the cable from the ceiling. The solution is simple but very effective.

You can make this “suspension” to the ceiling for carrying with your own hands in an hour

  • Two anchors with a ring at the end.
  • Cable tie.
  • Clamp clamp.
  • Metal cable. The length depends on the size of the garage - it needs to be from one wall to the other.
  • Steel/plastic rings or steel wire and a piece of pipe to make these rings.
  • Carrying with a long cable - its length is approximately double the length of the garage.

The cable is stretched along the long side of the garage. It’s more convenient - not far from the “working” wall, where the workbench or other equipment is located. A little work:

Well, that's all. You can use it. With such a device, the carrier can be carried to any end of the garage without the cable getting tangled or caught. Convenient, takes little time.

DIY garage compressor

A compressor is needed in any garage. And, by the way, this is not the most difficult homemade product for the garage. A low-power compressor for the garage for inflating tires and other small jobs can be made with your own hands from auxiliary materials. For example, from a compressor from a refrigerator. For this you will need:

  • refrigerator compressor;
  • a sealed cylinder with thick walls (you can use a fire extinguisher flask or a small gas cylinder);
  • safety valve 8 atm;
  • pressure gauge;
  • fitting;
  • oxygen hoses with couplings (select the length based on the size of your spare parts);
  • base for the compressor - a thick board or piece of plywood will do.

In order not to pump any nasty stuff into the tires, it is advisable to also install a filter to separate oils, dust and other contaminants. The diagram of a homemade compressor is shown in the photo.

The compressor must have a starting device. We plug it into the network, see which tube the air is sucked into, and mark it. You can put a car filter on it - clean air will be pumped in.

We assemble an oil separator receiver from a cylinder and a safety valve. To do this, we cut two fittings into the cylinder - for air inlet and outlet. We place a safety valve on the inlet hole and connect the compressor outlet to it using an oxygen hose.

We install another automobile oil filter at the outlet of the oil separator receiver to completely remove the oil. We connect the filter to the pressure gauge, and from it comes a hose, which is connected to the tire through the appropriate adapter.

Assembly is complete. But in order to carry this device comfortably, everything needs to be secured in some way. You can weld the frame to size, attach wheels and a handle for easy transportation. One of the compressor options for inflating wheels is described in the video. There is no receiver, but its functions are performed by an oil filter. You can do it this way, but with a receiver the design is more reliable.

Since the compressor in the refrigerator is low-power, it may take a long time to inflate the tires. You can make it more powerful by installing two compressors that will start simultaneously. Accordingly, the pressure will build up twice as fast. But such an installation requires a more robust security group. Such homemade products require a little more equipment, since the circuit is still more complicated.

If you are an avid car enthusiast or a jack of all trades, then you certainly have a garage or a suitable shed. It is in these rooms that the main need for work is a portable lamp: there is always a place that is difficult to reach by the light of table and wall lamps, or small parts that require a concentrated beam of bright light. You can easily make a carrying lamp from available waste material with your own hands. A little patience and half an hour of time is all you need to create this homemade product!

Materials for work:
Cord (for example, from an old vacuum cleaner) with a working plug at one end – 1 pc.;
Suspension socket for lamp – 1 pc.;
Empty polyurethane foam container – 1 pc.;
Chandelier body with horn (without shade) – 1 pc.;
Short bolt – 3 pcs.;
Nut – 3 pcs.;
Drill, thin drill, screwdriver.

Stages of work:
First stage: connect the wires.
We free the old chandelier from the shade.

We find a wire from an unused household appliance (in the presented version, a cord from a vacuum cleaner is used). It is desirable: a longer wire, with a double insulating layer, so that it has a working plug at one end.

Unscrew the horn from the body. We thread the cord into it so that the direction of movement goes towards the connection of the horn with the lampshade.

Second stage: connect the wires. We are looking for a pendant socket for a lamp.

We disassemble it into its components: disconnect the body and threaded sleeve, take out the porcelain liner.

We free the end of the cord pulled out from the horn from the outer insulation, and strip the wires themselves (by cutting and removing the inner insulating layer from both wires).

We thread the stripped wires into the chandelier body.

Further work is carried out inside the chandelier body. First we insert the wires into the cartridge body.

We secure it with a special nut, which secures the chandelier horn to the body.

Next step: connecting the wires to the porcelain socket insert.

To do this, twist a loop at the end of each wire.

Unscrew the contact screws on the porcelain insert. We thread the screw into the loop. We put the screw in place and screw it tightly to the insert (the wiring ring remains under the screw, on the insert).

After screwing the contact screws, we place the porcelain insert into the cartridge body (wires inside).

We connect the cartridge body with the threaded sleeve.

Third stage: making a reflector.
To concentrate the direction of light, we make a “curtain” - a reflector, by cutting out a spade-shaped part from an empty container of polyurethane foam.
