Among small architectural forms, benches and benches are the most common. It can be made from any materials or their combinations: wood, metal, stone, concrete, plastic, glass.

They are everywhere: streets and squares of cities, parks and squares, sports and educational institutions, public institutions and residential premises. An almost obligatory element of landscape design, a plot of a private house or a summer residence.

The easiest and most affordable material to process is wood. Do-it-yourself wooden benches provide an opportunity to save money, demonstrate home craftsmanship and be a creator.

Wooden benches: economy option

Make wooden benches using existing "blanks". It is enough to process a little, to assemble a strong and functional structure - with a seat, back and legs.

Moreover, such "modules" are inexpensive, sometimes purchased for "penny". We are talking about pallets, or pallets.

But not everyone is suitable for garden furniture. Do not use products from non-grade or unedged boards. In the first case, large knots can fall out, in the second, “aesthetic” qualities suffer.

There are cases when the step of fastening the board is clearly not suitable for a bench.

The pallet is a wonderful donor for the shop

A pallet is better, as in the photo. With a corner chamfer removed along the contour.

The width of the pallet is great for bench seating. It must be cut off, the rest can go to the backrest device.

If the width of the back is not enough, then the bench will have to be made from two pallets.

Seats and back are part of the design. Need legs. Let's make pallets from the board itself.

  • the bench may not be stable

rigidity is ensured by the seat, and the area for attaching the legs is quite small. Usually, a lower bundle is added so that they do not “disperse”. A simpler option is to use another pallet as a base (more precisely, part of it)

or two. Do-it-yourself benches, benches made of wood in detail and clearly.

Fixing the back, as can be seen from the examples, can be done with a pair of rails, boards, rope or rope. The assembled shop, its surface is cleaned, sanded, varnished or painted.

You can not cut the pallets in width and make a garden sofa.

There are examples of the use of pallet boards for the manufacture of other products from the class of small architectural forms. There are also flowerpots in the photo.

It is not necessary to spend time disassembling pallets, but it is better to buy standard lumber.

Simple bench forms: board and timber

There are designs and execution options - from the simplest to specimens with wood carvings, worthy of being called real works of applied art.

The easiest option for making is a wooden bench without a back.

The drawing shows a do-it-yourself wooden bench, completely made of a board with a thickness of 75 mm.

Bench made of boards and timber

Each element consists of two parts.

The seat with beveled ends is assembled from two boards. If the bench will stand in an open area or outside a heated room, then it is better to provide a gap. It will allow water to drain and compensate for the swelling of the tree.

The leg consists of two glued elements. For the reliability of the end connection, a pin (dowel) is inserted. Two short support beams and seat mounts are attached to the leg. The legs and beams are connected with grooves, fixed with glue and self-tapping screws. When assembled, the leg and beam are attached to the seat board with two pairs of self-tapping screws and dowels, holes are pre-drilled under them.

Assembly order

1. Cut out the workpiece;

2. Process the ends and clean the surfaces for gluing;

3. Glue the legs;

4. Beams are attached to them;

5. Gather a shop;

6. Sanded and varnished (or painted).

Images and drawings of a bench from a 30 mm board with a support beam.

Bench from a board 30 mm with a support beam

There are already figured elements in the form of legs with radius cutouts. You can make it easier to work and make them rectangular. The drawing is not a dogma - it can be taken as a basis and changed in the direction of simplification, and in the direction of complication. They do the same with sizes - they make the shop wider, shorter, etc.

What is the difference between this option and the previous one?

One long support beam is used instead of four short ones, it also performs the function of a stiffener for the base - the legs and the whole structure are more stable. The connection of the legs and the beam goes through a thorn-groove, and it is much easier to cut the thorn out. That is, this form is a little easier to manufacture, more stable and gives more room for experimentation.

Below are several options for a similar design, but in a different design.

For example, in the style of minimalism - there are not even protruding edges. Splicing according to the tenon-groove principle is used to connect the legs and the seat.

In this model, the task was simplified as much as possible - they even refused to cut out grooves and spikes. The connection between the legs and the beam in this case is best done using confirmations, and not self-tapping screws (they have a larger contact area). For strength, a couple of dowels are usually added on each side, planted on glue. Hidden fastening of the seat is done on a dowel, open - on a self-tapping screw.

If the bench is not very long, then the beam can be placed below. In such a design, it performs exclusively the role of a stiffener.

In the photo below you can see an unusual case of using a dowel - it fastens the beam to the legs not with a hidden installation, but with an open one.

In this bench, a bar was attracted to the "help" board.

Legs with crossbars and two oblique stops for sitting are made of it. All fastenings are made on confirmations, and the connection of the bar of legs to each other is carried out using grooves.

Here, too, a bar is used for the base. Due to the large thickness of the seat board, it does not require additional support. The lower beam serves as a stiffener.

Making a small bench with a back is not much more difficult. The principle of installation and fasteners is similar to simple benches: grooves, spikes, dowels, glue, self-tapping screws and confirmations.

You can take the design with "solid" legs from the board as a basis. Move them a little from the center to the edge so that the ends of the seat and legs are in the same plane. Attach vertical beams to the legs and screw the back to them.

Bench with carved back

For a model whose base is made of a bar, the back is even easier to make. Two pairs of legs: front - for seat support, rear (high) - for attaching the carrier beam, seat and backrest.

These were light and “mobile” bench and bench designs made of wood, which can be used with equal success in an open area, under a canopy or indoors. There are more massive forms focused on "stationary" placement.

Benches: large format

Making a bench from wood with your own hands for a summer residence involves the use of any form of material. Including those that are used in the construction of wooden houses.

For example, a bar. For reference: a beam is classified as such if the aspect ratio is not more than 1:2, and the smaller side has a size of 100 mm or more. Reducing the size translates such lumber into the category of "bar".

It is not easy to assemble such a shop, as in this photo, with your own hands, but you can.

Assembling the legs is not difficult at all. The only difference from the board and the bar is that you will need more powerful fasteners. For example, such self-tapping bolts for wood.

Under their head, you will have to expand the hole (but the confirmations also require this) and put a washer.

It is much more difficult to install and install the seat.

To “tie” the beam together, three metal studs are needed, with a length almost the width of the seat, and two - the width of the bench, taking into account the legs. It is difficult to find such on sale - you will have to make them from round fittings (stainless steel). The gap between the timber can be maintained with the help of wooden board plates strung on studs. The thickness of the plates should be the same as the three supporting vertical beams that support the seat in the center of the bench.

And this copy is made of even more powerful timber (150 × 100). Its assembly is much easier. Two seat beams are attached from below through short cross beams, which are then mounted to the T-shaped legs.

Another easy-to-execute example using a large-format board. The bearing capacity of the material is such that it does not require the use of reinforcing beams - the seat is attached to the ends of the short legs. The author of the project knows well that the most rigid geometric figure is a triangle. Therefore, both the configuration of the lower part of the supports and their connection to each other by bolts has the shape of an equilateral triangle.

If it is possible to order two non-standard wooden beams, then making such a bench with your own hands will not be difficult: you will need to “add” four short beams (100 × 100) for the legs and two bars (100 × 50) for the back.

Bench made of timber

But if there is no such possibility, then instead of a non-standard beam, you can use a pair of standard ones.

Such a garden bench made of wood with its own hands already uses logs.

The most difficult thing in this option is to make a longitudinal groove and a spike for connecting logs with an ax (or adze). For reliable fixation, you will need another pair of dowels on each side (this is the same dowel, but only thicker and longer). The seat and back can be made of board (as in the photo) or timber. Do-it-yourself benches, benches made of wood - ideas and solutions.

And this version of the bench is already more complicated.

But not much. The main difficulty is to make a back, or rather a notch on it. All fastenings of the parts of the structure to each other pass through dowels.

In principle, such wooden fasteners are strong enough - log cabins with a couple of floors (including wooden churches) were previously built without a single nail.

And a very simple option: two decks with a groove and half a log, sawn lengthwise.

Bench simplicity perfection

Wooden bench

In conclusion, a couple of examples of how you can make a bench out of wood, but not purchased, but found in the nearest planting or forest. Benches, benches made of wood with their own hands from auxiliary material.

In this example, only the seat is made of board, everything else is made of natural material, which had to be selected in thickness and adjusted to fit.

To make the seat of such a shop, you need a professional tool, so you will either have to order a longitudinal sawing of a log, or (which is easier) take an unedged board as a blank.

Note information : , .

A bench is an essential attribute of a summer cottage or house adjoining territory. Often on the site there is a place not for one, but for several benches. One in the yard, another in the garden, the third at the gate. A do-it-yourself bench with a backrest is probably the easiest and most useful project that you can do in the country.

The beautiful wooden texture of the bench will look harmonious in any garden, especially if you use not just boards for the bench, but all parts of the tree that are available to you in the garden.

In order to make a simple bench, you do not need special skills or expensive tools, and wood in the country is one of the most affordable materials.

If you have never made a bench yourself, we will show you the whole basic process, based on which you can create your own little masterpieces.

We hope these beautiful benches will inspire you to design your own.

Do-it-yourself bench with a back

To begin with, we propose to master a simple design that is easy to manufacture and which has good rigidity and stability.

Wooden bench. Preparation of materials

In order to make a bench, you will need:

  • 2 short front supports [A];
  • 2 long rear supports (the back will be attached to them) [A];
  • 8 short crossbars for tying supports and stiffening [B];
  • long boards for the seat and backs (their number depends on their width and the desired dimensions of the bench) [C].

If you are planning to make a long bench with a backrest with your own hands, then make sure that your boards that you have prepared for the seat will not sag under the weight of the people sitting on it. And if the boards really sag, then this can be fixed - you can collect another support and put it in the middle.

Every detail needs to be polished so that after resting on the bench you do not have to pick out splinters from various interesting places.

Remember also that if you want to dig in a bench, then your supports should be at least 40cm longer.

Garden bench. Execution of works

After your parts are cut to size and sanded, you can start assembling. For this, it is better to use self-tapping screws, but if you do not have a screwdriver, then the bench can be knocked down with nails.

It is important to fasten the crossbars with at least two self-tapping screws to each support as shown in the picture. And the greater the distance between the screws, the more rigid the structure will be.

Now it remains only to paint and let the paint dry.

And here's what you can get. You can give the bench a different look without changing the design. Just take a more roughly processed wood, and the result is a completely different thing! Although structurally its differences are minimal, and it is done in exactly the same way.

DIY bench

But even if it seemed too complicated for you, then for you there is a design of a bench with a back, which is done with a hacksaw and a hammer in just a matter of hours.

All you need is six boards of the same thickness (preferably at least 40mm).

Her scheme is elementary simple.

After all the parts are cut to size and sanded, it is assembled in a few minutes!

Only it is better to drill holes for self-tapping screws in advance so that the board does not split during assembly.

This bench looks concise and modern.
And this is not surprising, because there is nothing superfluous in this design. Each structural element is absolutely necessary and at the same time minimally sufficient. Your bench with backrest can be made in any way, we have shown only two of the simplest.

Benches photo

If you enjoy working with wood, you may want to expand your skills and add new original details to your bench.

If you are uprooting stumps in the country, consider that you have become the proud owner of a unique material for your next bench, which you will make with your own hands.

Often those of us who love and know how to do something with our own hands are simply embarrassed to waste our time on this “nonsense” - it’s more important to dig up a garden in time.

The pleasure that you will get when working on your garden bench project will bring you really happy moments.
And those around you who were puffing - why are you busy with a frivolous business, will be proud of your bench, which you made yourself, and tell everyone that you are so unexpectedly talented.

And we are sure that these successes will inspire you to try new ideas, because do-it-yourself benches are always more practical and cozier than ordinary standard ones.

If, sitting on a bench, you want to relax and be inspired, then it is more logical to place it near something beautiful: a pond, a flower garden or an alpine slide.

A do-it-yourself garden bench is not an easy task, but you don’t need to be a professional in wood carving or welding. It is enough to have small skills in working with a hammer, saw or welding machine, materials and desire.

Soon you will have comfortable and beautiful DIY garden benches.

Having the desire and the necessary materials, it will not be difficult to build benches for the garden.

Necessary materials and tools

With a creative approach, a garden bench can be made from almost anything. The most optimal and simplest option is a wooden bench, for which you will need boards and varnish with a primer from the materials, and a screwdriver with a jigsaw from the tools.

If you want to see a metal bench on your site, there will be a completely different set of tools: a welding machine, metal pipes, a pipe bender, a grinder.

If there is none of the above, and the desire to see a bench on the site is great, you can use any materials at hand. Bricks or car tires with a board in the middle, wooden boxes can also serve as a bench. Even from plastic bottles and cardboard, you can build a cute bench.

Step-by-step instructions for making a bench with your own hands

Wooden garden benches with backrests

Most often there are two types of handmade wooden benches: an ordinary bench and a bench with a back.

For convenience, before starting work, it is better to draw a drawing, select the size of interest and buy boards that are suitable in size. If this is not possible, you need to use an electric jigsaw or saw, and independently prepare the elements of the bench.

Read about the types of perennial fast-growing shrubs for hedges.

You will need:

  • 5 boards 1.5 m long and 15 cm wide, it is better to choose a thickness of 3-4 cm;
  • 2 legs, which will also be a support for the backrest - 900 by 150 mm and a thickness of 3-4 cm;
  • 2 front legs - 360 by 150mm with a similar thickness to the rear legs;
  • bars 40X40 mm;
  • screwdriver and screws;
  • varnish and impregnation;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • sandpaper.

The drawing will help you in the manufacture of a garden bench

Having prepared all the necessary materials, you can get down to business.

Before fastening the boards, they must be well processed so that rest on the bench brings pleasure, not splinters. The longest boards that will go on the seat and back need to be sanded with sandpaper (or a sander).

If the house has an electric planer, it is necessary to use it to make the shape of the boards rounded.

The blanks for the rear legs need to be finalized, giving them the correct shape.

The legs, which are also a support for the back, are processed with a grinder

We take boards 90 cm long and mark a division of 40 cm - the height of the bench. From this division at an angle of 20 degrees, we cut off the upper part of the board with a jigsaw, while the board should stand with an edge. We get the back leg and the angle of inclination of our future back.

The most difficult and important is the cut, it must be even on both workpieces in size and depth.

We cut the timber along the width of the bench - 50 cm. We connect the legs with it, it is better both from above and from below, so the bench will be more stable. Distance between legs 28 cm (front and back).

We fasten three long boards with self-tapping screws using a screwdriver to the upper bars of the finished legs, with which we connected them.

We collect the back of the bench. We attach the remaining two boards to the previously prepared cut. The distance between the seat and the board is 20 cm, the boards are 2-3 cm.

You can strengthen the design. To do this, you need to attach a board along the length of the bench to the lower strapping of the legs. This will give even more reliability and stability.

We cover the bench with varnish to give it decorativeness and durability

Garden benches made of wood without a back

Similarly to the steps described, you can make a simpler bench without a back. For her, we need everything the same, except for the boards 90cm going to the rear legs, instead two more boards 36cm in length. It is assembled according to the same principle as a bench with a back.

Garden benches made of metal and wood

Making a bench from metal and wood is much more difficult than just from wood, but it looks stronger and more solid.

You will need:

  • grinder for metal;
  • welding machine;
  • metalwork vice;
  • metal pipes 30X30 mm;
  • primer for metal;
  • wooden boards for seating and varnish for processing.
Read about how to make a windmill from plastic bottles with your own hands.

Seat frame. We cut the pipe into 4 parts: 2 by 1500 mm, 2 by 400 mm. Weld in the shape of a rectangle.

Legs. We cut off 4 identical pieces for legs of 460 mm from metal pipes and weld them using a welding machine to the corners of a rectangular workpiece.

Bench back. Tubes of 440 mm are welded to the pipe with a length of 1500 mm on the sides in one direction. Then this blank is welded to the rectangular part of the bench.

The design is ready, it is necessary to wipe the welds, polish and cover the shop with a primer.

To stiffen between the legs to the back (inside diagonally) and to the seat, additional metal ribs can be welded.

A bench made of wood and metal is ready

Seat. For the seat, it is preferable to use wooden boards, which must be processed before screwing, go through with sandpaper.

They are attached along or across, depending on your desire, with the help of bolts (preferably with rounded caps).

Holes are drilled in the metal frame with an electric drill, into which bolts are screwed. You can also use metal staples, then a drill is not needed.

Upon completion of the installation work, we treat the wooden coating with varnish.

Stone garden benches

Garden benches made of wood look beautiful, but they require careful maintenance. But benches made of stone are not whimsical in maintenance and are easy to assemble.

If there are ownerless stones of different sizes on the site, you can build an almost exclusive shop from them.

We take large stones and lay out the seat and back of them. We lay out armrests from small stones. We put a few decorative pillows and you can sit down to rest.

Such shops are inconvenient to move around the site, but they look original.

Description

Instructions for making a garden bench step by step, each step is described in detail and illustrated

Viktor Sergeev

- the oldest piece of furniture that has become available to man. A wooden snag, just slightly hewn with a stone ax and brought into a cave, is the great-great-grandfather of all modern furniture, closer to which are wooden benches, which have not lost their relevance and demand - neither in the house, nor, especially, in landscape design.

Garden benches made of wood: choose a style

It only at first glance may seem that the bench is far from the most important element in landscape design, but real professionals say that it is from the bench that garden design begins and ends on it. Otherwise, why then all these efforts and labors, if no one can enjoy and appreciate them?

That is why it is important to place the bench correctly, choosing a place from where the most beautiful and attractive view opens, and the bench itself can become an elegant accent that complements the beauty of the garden.

A comfortable bench in the garden will become the place where you can hide from the hustle and bustle, admire nature, read a book or listen to music, dream, just relax. At the same time, wooden benches for summer cottages are a powerful and effective “weapon” of landscape design, they can be used for zoning a site, marking boundaries, etc.

At the same time, garden benches differ in their functional purpose:

  • front doors - they are installed at porch, at the entrance of the house. These are wooden decorative benches, richly decorated with carvings, they become a favorite place for photo shoots.
  • dining - they are usually placed at B-B-Q, on the terraces, in those places where the family likes to dine in nature
  • garden - small benches, next to flowerbeds, flower garden or plot, they are good to sit down and relax while working in the garden. Usually it is of a very simple form, without decorations and aesthetic frills.
  • relaxation - usually they are "hidden" in the most secluded corner of the site, away from strangers, and even their own eyes, where the whole situation is conducive to relaxation. The main criterion is comfort, and you can not be modest with the size - you can climb on such a bench with your feet and even lie down

To make the bench comfortable, you should adhere to the following dimensions:

  • the optimal height is about 40-50 cm, while the legs will comfortably rest on the ground and rest
  • seat width - about 50-55 cm. The seat is made with a slight inclination inward - 5-12 cm, so it is more convenient to lean
  • back height - 35-50 cm
  • back tilt - within 15-45 degrees
  • if armrests (handrests) are installed, then the optimal height for them is 15-20 cm, counting from the seat

Advice! When choosing material for a bench, preference should be given to wood that is especially resistant to moisture and decay - oak, larch, hazel, cherry. But teak is considered to be the "champion" in terms of strength, its wood contains natural resins that protect it from rot and insects (bark beetles, termites).

The choice of the shape and type of bench depends both on your preferences and the style in which the garden is decorated.

For country style, a bench that is as simple as possible in shape, natural color or painted in a discreet brown shade, is suitable. For the Provence style - a little semi-antique shop, rather modest in terms of decoration, painted in blue , White , purple or blue.

  • the bench must be periodically painted (opened with varnish). It is best to do this at the beginning of the season, before carefully cleaning the tree from the remnants of old paint.
  • in hot weather, the bench should be placed in the shade - it will be comfortable not only for you, but also for the tree - ultraviolet radiation negatively affects the quality of wood
  • regularly check the fasteners (bolts, screws, nails), if necessary, fasten them to the stop, do not loosen the structure
  • if you notice traces of rot on one board, replace it immediately, do not let it spread further

A bench is an item that should be on every personal plot. However, it is not always possible to allocate funds for the purchase of a metal bench. Therefore, you can make a bench with your own hands from a profile pipe.

Advantages and disadvantages of a profile pipe

The profile pipe can have a different cross-sectional shape:

  • oval;
  • diamond-shaped;
  • square
  • rectangular.

It is made of carbon and low-alloy steel, so it is very often used in both civil and industrial construction. Such a pipe can be easily cut, welded and bent. From it you can make a beautiful garden gazebo, swing and sliding gates, children's swings, carousels, various types of fences and other small architectural forms for a personal plot. Including a bench.

The professional pipe has:

  • increased level of resistance to high physical and mechanical loads;
  • a fairly reasonable price;
  • light weight of the finished bench design.

At the same time, it is very easy to work with her.

Pipes with a round (oval) section have a high degree of resistance to mechanical stress, so they are best suited for the manufacture of a metal yard bench. It is recommended to choose thin-walled pipes with a thickness of 1 to 4 mm, as they are easier to work with at home. The material is inexpensive, and the metal structure will be quite light.

A significant disadvantage of such a pipe is its susceptibility to corrosion, so the benches will need to be regularly painted with oil, alkyd, epoxy or polyurethane paint with preliminary priming and removal of the old coating and rust that has appeared. But if you properly care for such a product, then it will serve you for a long time.

A garden bench made of metal profiles will fit perfectly into the backyard landscape You can always independently adjust the width of the back and seat Benches for summer cottages made of metal profiles can be decorated with decorative elements The bench can be made without a back

Tools and materials for work

Metal pipes are not the only material that will need to be used to make a bench with your own hands. You will need:

  • pine boards for the arrangement of the base of the seats and backs;
  • powerful welding machine;
  • pack of electrodes - 3 mm;
  • angle grinder (or hacksaw);
  • powerful drill (for drilling wood and metal);
  • file or sandpaper;
  • exact level;
  • tape measure or regular meter;
  • planer for grinding work;
  • paint and primer for metal;
  • goggles (mask for welding) and gloves;
  • paint on wood (you can take varnish or stain);
  • reliable hammer;
  • large pliers;
  • wood bolts with nuts.

To bend the pipes, you will need a special tool "Snail", which can be used as a regular brake disc from the car. It will not damage the material.

How to make a metal frame for a garden bench with your own hands

Before proceeding with the manufacture of any type of bench, it is necessary to carry out preparatory work, in particular, it is recommended to study the technology of bending and welding pipes in advance.

Metal pipe bending

In order to create bent elements, it is necessary to plug one end of the pipe with a cork, and pour fine sand into it, and then close it on the other side. Then place it in the bending device, clamping it between the protrusion on the brake disc and the pin, and then bend it to the desired angle.

If the pipe does not bend well enough, then you can use a blowtorch and heat the bend.

For the manufacture of various elements for the bench, it is best to take pipes with a round or oval section, as they lend themselves best to bending.

The sequence of manufacturing a house adjoining bench without a back

A bench without a back is a very simple design, so for its manufacture it will be necessary to make three rectangles, which are connected to each other by pipes that act as a seat.

To make a shop, you will need to take:

  • a metal square or rectangular pipe 11 meters long (rolled section 30x30 mm);
  • 2 pieces of profile pipe 2.3 meters each;
  • 6 pieces of 60 cm;
  • 6 pieces of 45 cm;
  • 8 wooden boards 6 cm wide;
  • 24 bolts with nuts.

To make an ordinary bench without a back, you need to weld 3 rectangles prepared in advance, and then connect them together with two guide pipes, which will serve as a seat frame. Further work should proceed according to plan:

  1. Long support segments must be placed horizontally, and shorter ones must be mounted vertically.
  2. In the process of welding the cut pieces of pipes, it is necessary to maintain the angles of the supports, since they must be exactly 90 degrees.
  3. After carrying out all the welding work, it is necessary to clean all the seams well with a special grinder or an ordinary file.
  4. Then the seams must be well primed.
  5. After the frame is welded, on each of the supports you need to drill 8 holes (symmetrically located) for attaching the boards.
  6. To prevent the appearance of rust, the frame of the bench must be coated with paint for metal.
  7. Wooden boards are recommended to be impregnated with wood stain.
  8. If desired, wooden boards can be replaced with rectangular pipes. They just need to be welded to the structure and also painted with anti-corrosion paint.
  9. In order for sharp corners not to interfere, the slats can be laid in a specially prepared metal frame. It will take 1.2 m of pipe.

How to weld a bench frame with a small back

You will need:

  • profile pipe with a section of 25x25 mm (8 m);
  • pine boards (thickness 30 and 25 mm) for the seat and backrest.

For the frame device, you need to prepare in advance:

  1. Profiled pipe - 1.55 m. To create a jumper between two supports.
  2. 2 bent pieces of pipe 78 cm each. Supports for the back of the bench.
  3. 2 pieces of pipe 35 cm each. For making the base for the seat.
  4. 2 pieces of pipe 39 cm each. For the front supports.
  5. 2 pieces of pipe 20 cm each. To strengthen the front supports.
  6. 4 steel plates 40x40 mm. For the manufacture of stands for supports.
  7. 2 bent steel strips 45 cm each. For connecting future supports.

To make the seat you will need:

  • 3 pine boards: length - 1.6 m, width - 6 cm, thickness - 3 cm (for the base of the seat);
  • 3 boards: length - 1.6 m, width 6 cm, thickness - 2.5 cm (for the back);
  • 24 bolts with nuts.

The work on making a bench consists of several stages:

  1. First you need to weld the crossbar and two pieces of pipe 35 cm long. The jumper should be exactly in the center of each of the pieces and at an angle of 90 degrees.
  2. It is necessary to weld two bent pieces of pipe 78 cm long to this design. It is necessary to weld at the place of the bend.
  3. Then the front elements of the supporting structures must be welded to the workpiece. In this case, the location of their connection should be 9 cm from the base of the bench.
  4. In order to increase the strength of the bench, the front supports must be welded to a pipe, which will serve as a transverse jumper.
  5. Next, you need to weld 2 arcs between the supports and fix them at the ends of the legs. The finished product must be well polished in places of welding seams.
  6. Then the metal structure must be primed and painted with a special anti-corrosion paint.
  7. On the finished structure, it is necessary to symmetrically arrange wooden boards, which will serve as the basis for the seat.
  8. Before fixing the boards, they must be treated with varnish or stain. Boards are attached to the design of the bench with the help of special bolts with round flat heads. Thicker and stronger boards are used for the bottom, and slightly thinner for the back. If necessary, they can be painted with any oil paint. If there are no wooden boards, then the same metal pipes with a rectangular section can be used for the seats.

For convenience, you can make metal armrests on the bench. To do this, you need to take two pieces of pipe 75 cm each and simply bend them at an angle of 90 degrees, and then weld them on the sides to the metal frame. Process the seams with a grinder or file. The armrests can also be painted.

If you make rounded soles at the legs, then on such a bench you can also swing.

Finishing the bench after its assembly

After the whole structure is assembled, you can simply paint it with a special paint for iron. With the help of varnish or stain, it is recommended to process the wooden planks of the seat and back, and then the bench will acquire a beautiful natural color. Such a bench will look great on any personal plot. The decor is chosen taking into account landscape design.

You can independently sew soft comfortable pillows and bedspreads for the back. Children and the elderly will be very comfortable to sit on them on warm summer days.
