The list of troubles that await drivers on the road is confidently headed by a punctured tire. And in this situation, a dilemma becomes before the motorist, whether to do tire fitting with his own hands or contact a technical center where there is all the necessary tools and experienced craftsmen.

In the first case, the owner of the vehicle can save. Yes, and the nearest service station can be located quite far away or accept customers only by appointment. However, in order to properly perform tire fitting yourself, you need to have certain skills and tools.

Independent problem solving

A punctured wheel does not cause serious difficulties if there is a “spare wheel”. In the absence of such, special blades will help to solve the problem, allowing you to tear the tire from the disk. The procedure can be significantly simplified with a conventional tow rope and a car jack.

Having prepared the specified toolkit, we sequentially perform the following steps.

  1. We dismantle the wheel and clean it of dirt.
  2. Stir it with the nipple up and let the air out.
  3. Place the jack as close to the wheel rim as possible.
  4. We pass the cable through the hole in the disk.
  5. Having thrown the cable on the jack bracket, we connect its ends.
  6. We rotate the handle of the jack, controlling that the landing ring moves down, and the cable pulls up.
  7. We take out the camera by lifting the sidewall of the tire.
  8. We change the camera and place it in its place by inserting the fitting into the corresponding hole from the inside.
  9. We carry out the flanging, pumping up the camera a little.
  10. We install the wheel on the car and inflate the tire.

On paper, all these actions look simple. But it is very difficult to fulfill them, especially if everything happens in the field, and even in bad weather. The quality of homemade tire fitting always leaves much to be desired, and you need to be prepared for this.

Manual tire changer: assembly instructions

A device for fast beading of wheels is called a machine. Diagrams and drawings of such mechanisms for tire fitting with your own hands are easy to find on the Internet. There you can also find a detailed description of the process of their manufacture in artisanal conditions. But is it worth the time?

A manual machine of our own production is an analogue of the equipment used in car services. With such equality of functions, it has its advantages, among which, in addition to saving finances, one can note:

  • simplicity of design and compactness;
  • durability and maintainability;
  • the presence of a manual drive;
  • easy and quick disassembly of the mechanism;
  • lack of special conditions of service and storage.
  • independence from the auto repair shop;
  • Efficiency of repair even in field conditions.

It should be mentioned that most of the drawings of the tire changer machine available on the web are provided for light vehicles. However, for owners of commercial vehicles on the Internet there are also recommendations, diagrams and video instructions for the manufacture of more powerful mechanisms.

Design features

The machine under consideration has many options. We will consider the design of a classic tire fitting mechanism, which consists of the following components and parts.

  1. Frame. The structural element, which is the basis for the entire mechanism, is formed from a rectangular steel profile, the parts of which are connected by welding. Experts advise placing metal pipes in parallel, and strengthening the structure with metal corners. To increase the service life of the machine, the use of stainless steel, or at least the painting of frame parts, allows.
  2. Pipe. This element of the machine is necessary for the subsequent attachment of the handle. Therefore, it must be durable, since it will play the role of a lever in the process of carrying out activities for the dismantling of tires.
  3. Riser. Structural detail mounted on the frame of the machine. This item is required to install the rim. It should also be durable, as it will take significant loads.

Large forces and loads that will affect the structural elements of the tire changer require the use of durable and reliable materials. For the same reason, it is highly recommended to reinforce all connections with screw fasteners.

Device assembly

A manual machine is assembled for beading automobile wheels according to the drawing. The whole process includes the following procedures.

  1. Strong and high-quality profile pipes are selected for the base. The distance between the jumpers of the frame must be at least 70 centimeters. You should also observe their parallel arrangement relative to each other. The fulfillment of these conditions will ensure the stability of the entire structure in any operating conditions.
  2. Frame elements are connected using a welding machine. At all important nodal points, it is necessary to use steel corners, which will significantly strengthen the entire structure.
  3. If necessary, the frame is equipped with legs that allow you to adjust its height and / or position on an uneven surface. The mobility of the device will be added by roller wheels, which must be equipped with stoppers.
  4. Pipe fastening is carried out after the final formation of the frame. The recommended diameter of this metal element is 30 mm. Before welding, it is necessary to install a flange, which is located at a height of 50-60 cm.
  5. The final stage is the installation of the machine lever, which requires the preliminary fastening of a special plate that acts as its basis. The lever itself is a separate unit consisting of a paw and a shoulder.

Obviously, without the use of a welding machine, the above work cannot be carried out. Also note that after assembling the mechanism, the entire structure should be primed and painted to protect against corrosion.

In the assembly of a tire changer, there are certain nuances that it is desirable to take into account. Below are some tips from "experienced" masters.

  1. The angle between the lever and the flanging tip should be sharp (but not too sharp), which will ensure easy installation of tires on the rim.
  2. Before you start designing a machine, you need to consider its design and develop a drawing and / or diagram.
  3. The machine must be securely fastened to the floor by means of anchor bolts (for concrete screed) or self-tapping screws for wooden flooring.
  4. In the process of beading the wheel, it is recommended to lubricate the car rim and the tips of the machine with a thick soap solution.
  5. Before starting tire fitting work, wash and dry the wheels well.
  6. Different models of rims may differ in the number of holes for fixing bolts, as well as the distances between them. Therefore, you must first stock up (or make) special metal adapters.

In conclusion, we note that on the Internet there are many diagrams and drawings for the manufacture of tire changers. Most of them involve the use of improvised and easily accessible materials, which ensures the low cost of the finished product. Therefore, such equipment of your own garage will not be superfluous, especially when you consider that the cost of car services is constantly growing.

On the track, motorists face various troubles and breakdowns, one of which is a punctured wheel. You can replace it with a spare tire, which should always be in the trunk of a car, and a set of necessary tools. Do-it-yourself tire fitting is sometimes more profitable than applying for a similar service at a service station. The help of specialists in this matter often costs quite a tidy sum, not to mention the seasonal replacement of tires, which is always accompanied by huge queues of drivers who decide to change wheels at the last moment. How to do tire fitting with your own hands, we will tell in this article.

Signs of a punctured wheel

Damage to a car wheel is always accompanied by signs such as:

  • A sharp decrease in speed.
  • The appearance of external sounds.
  • Skids and jerks of the car on flat sections of the track.

Punching a wheel requires the driver to immediately stop the car on the side of the road and check the condition of the tire. If it is damaged, the following actions are carried out:

  1. First gear and parking brake are set. If the car is on a slope, then one wheel is insured with a stop - a stone, a log or a "shoe".
  2. Enable alarm.
  3. Post warning signs.
  4. Start manual tire fitting with your own hands.

Precautionary measures

Do-it-yourself home tire fitting is mainly carried out in the garage. You can disassemble and bead the tire with the help of special tools - mounts. Often do-it-yourself tire fitting is carried out using chisels. Do not use heavier tools - they can damage rubber, tube, rims and tires. In addition to conventional tools, you can use a special do-it-yourself tire fitting machine.

It is advisable to carry out the procedure for changing the wheel at a distance from the car, since damage to the body can be caused in the event of a breakdown of the mount. The driver must also take precautions to avoid injury if tools spring back.

Wheel disassembly

Do-it-yourself tire fitting begins with disassembling the wheel.

  1. One tire bead is removed from the wheel rim. The edge of the rubber is carefully pry off with a pry bar and supported with a screwdriver to prevent slipping back, after which it is brought out of the rim. Before starting work, it is advisable to moisten the rim with soapy water - this will facilitate the process of removing the rubber.
  2. At a distance of 15-20 cm, the second mount is inserted and moved to the side until the bead is completely removed.
  3. The other side of the tire is removed in the same way.
  4. The stretched rubber is removed by hand.

Installing a new tire

Do-it-yourself tire fitting is carried out after disassembling the wheel as follows:

  1. One side of the rim goes overboard.
  2. A mounting blade is placed between the wheel and the tire, with the help of which a part of the bead is brought over the edge of the wheel.
  3. At a distance of 10-15 cm, the next section of the tire is inserted beyond the rim with a second spatula.
  4. The first blade is installed behind the second one and the whole process is done in the same way.
  5. The second bead of the tire is placed in the rim in the same way.
  6. The installed tire at the end of the work must be pumped up.

The use of raw rubber or a special adhesive patch allows you to repair the tire after you have done the tire fitting yourself. A manual tire changer greatly simplifies and speeds up the entire process of changing tires. Tires are not retreaded if the puncture exceeds 12 mm.

Tire fitting tools

Do-it-yourself tire fitting can be carried out using special equipment, it is sold in car dealerships. In addition, you can independently make the desired machine: a large number of drawings are presented on the Internet. Tire fitting equipment is a structure equipped with two levers: one of them is equipped with a “dog” and a stopper, and the second is fixed. Pressing the lever allows you to easily and quickly remove the rubber from the wheel rim.

The rubber is removed using a disk with a special gear. It is rotated with a balloon wrench, which allows you to remove the rubber thrown over the disk. To put on rubber, it must be filled under the roller. The entire tire fitting process rarely takes more than 10 minutes.

Create a tire change kit

Such a kit consists of two parts: a bead breaking device and a tire changer. The lower frame is made of a steel pipe in the form of the letter H with dimensions of 90 x 60 cm. At a distance of 30 cm from the edge to the jumper, a pipe with a diameter of 2 inches and a length of about one and a half meters is welded at a right angle. The weld can be reinforced with rectangular kerchief triangles. To mount the wheel on the pipe, the old hub is put on and welded. Its height is selected in such a way that the wheel placed on it is at the level of the person's belt. Above the cylinder, the pipe should rise no more than 30 cm and at the same time not interfere with work. A bracket is welded at a short distance from the hub, with which the bead beating device will be attached - it is made of a steel sheet 4-5 mm thick, in which a hole for the bolt is drilled.

The photo above shows a device for beating a wheel bead. For its manufacture, a pipe of a larger diameter is taken so that a long lever can be inserted into it.

For the lever, a steel pipe one and a half meters long is used, its tip is made of a steel bar with a diameter of 20 mm. The length of the lever can be varied and depends on the free space in the garage and the strength of the hands. The tips for the lever are made either using a grinder with a cleaning and petal circle, or on a lathe.

The smaller the angle at which the flanging tip is welded to the lever, the easier it will be to put the wheel rubber on the disk. However, it should not be made too small. During beading, the lever can scratch the wheel rim, so it is necessary to find the optimal angle.

Since the finished tire changer is lightweight, it must be fixed to the garage floor. This can be done with self-tapping screws if the floors are wooden, or with anchor bolts installed in holes and filled with concrete if the floor in the garage is concrete.

To facilitate work and reduce the risk of damage to rubber and discs, the lever tips and tire bead are lubricated with soapy water. For a similar purpose, all wheels are thoroughly washed and cleaned of dirt before tire fitting.

Adapters with studs allow you to work with wheels that differ from native ones in the distance and number of holes for fasteners. Such adapters can be made independently from metal one centimeter thick.

Do-it-yourself tire fitting is not difficult, the main thing is to have the necessary materials and tools.

As you know, today a car is not a luxury at all, but a real necessity, and sometimes quite acute. At the same time, modern vehicles undergo more and more tangible changes every year, improving in their configuration and getting more and more new opportunities. However, despite numerous innovations, motorists from time to time still have to perform some manual procedures that no on-board computer can handle. One of these activities is tire fitting. Not every car owner will dare to do this work with his own hands, many prefer to entrust their vehicle into the hands of service station employees. But in order to easily replace summer tires with winter ones or, for example, quickly remove a wheel in an unforeseen situation, there is no need to pay big money. It would be much more correct to learn how to do home-made tire fitting with your own hands in order to be prepared for any breakdown and save a significant part of the financial resources.

But first, you should consider what tasks are assigned to the wheels of the car from a technical point of view.

The main purpose of car tires

The design of these structural parts of the vehicle is tire, cylinder and rubber. At the same time, while driving a car, tires perform a number of important functions:

They reduce and sometimes completely absorb the vibrations and shocks of the car caused by driving on rough roads, which is especially important for residents living in rural areas;

The force is distributed evenly, which contributes to a comfortable ride for the driver and passengers;

Thanks to the tires, the car grips the road much more reliably;

The car does not rock from side to side, but moves smoothly.

Before considering in detail the features of doing such work as do-it-yourself tire fitting, you should study all types of tires for cars. In addition, these elements also differ structurally, which is also important to mention.

Design features and types of tires

Not only professional drivers, but also ordinary motorists know that the choice of wheels is a very responsible task. Based on the structural features of tires, it is customary to distinguish the following samples:

  1. Chamber. Inside the tires of such wheels there are special rubber elements. In addition, the design also includes such details as the main frame, tread, as well as the sides.
  2. Tubeless, that is, having an empty space between the rim and the tire.

If we talk about seasonal types, then tires are usually divided into the following types:

  • summer samples that should be operated in dry and warm weather;
  • winter tires equipped with a special tread that improves the grip of the wheel with the road, which is essential in low temperatures and when the roadway is icy;
  • all-weather samples, which can be operated under any weather conditions.

Why check tire pressure?

As you know, do-it-yourself tire fitting of wheels includes not only repair activities. This also includes a procedure that should be performed regularly - this is checking the atmospheric pressure inside the tires. The safety of the driver and his passengers directly depends on the frequency of its implementation, since the air from the wheels gradually leaves, and this can cause an emergency.

The design of modern electric pumps usually includes a pressure gauge - a special device that helps control tire pressure. In addition, it is important to note that this short procedure will not only make driving safer, but also save some fuel, since the car consumes more fuel than required due to poorly inflated tires.

When is it necessary to change tires?

If we talk about what time of the year you need to remove the so-called summer tires, then everything here depends solely on the weather outside the window. It is important to remember that the urban climate is somewhat different from the rural one, so on busy roads it is possible to equip the wheels with winter tires just before the onset of cold weather. Approximate temperature indicators, signaling the need for "changing shoes" - 5 - 6 ° C.

In turn, it is not necessary to change winter tires for summer tires immediately after the onset of the calendar spring. It is important that the temperature stays around 9 - 10 °C for several days. But driving on studded tires for too long is also not worth it: this is fraught with premature tire wear and can be dangerous in case of emergency braking.

Materials for tire work

Of course, every motorist should always have a minimum set of tools with them, like heads of different sizes, etc. But if we talk about the procedure for changing wheels, then there is no such thing as the main do-it-yourself tire fitting device, here you need to have several tools:

  • the jack required to lift the vehicle;
  • a balloon-type wrench, necessary to remove the bolts from the wheel;
  • pressure gauge with which you need to control the pressure;
  • a pump (optionally a compressor) to fill the balloon;
  • mounting blades, called mounts. This tool allows you to remove the tire from the wheel without any problems.

In addition, the use of a soapy solution will facilitate the entire procedure (some car owners prefer to use silicone grease).

Removing the damaged wheel

Before carrying out repairs, the tire must be removed from the vehicle together with the carcass. For such an event, it is extremely important to have tools such as a jack and a spray bottle available. It is recommended to do all the work exclusively on level ground, and if there is some slope, then some kind of support must be placed under the wheel.

Next, the side on which the damaged tire is located should be raised with a jack. It is not necessary to achieve a great height, it is enough that the tire is 3-4 cm from the ground. After that, using a balloon, you can unscrew the nuts and remove the wheel.

All this event also applies to such a procedure as tire fitting. It is very problematic for an ordinary motorist to draw up drawings of the entire work process with his own hands, therefore, in order for the repair event to pass quickly and correctly, one should be guided by the recommendations described below.

Tire change process

One of the main difficulties that arises during the tire fitting process is related to the separation of the rim from the tire. To do this, use a special spatula, using its wide side. To make the whole procedure easier, it is recommended to pre-moisten the rim with a soap-based solution or silicone grease so that the parts slide better.

Do-it-yourself tire fitting is a rather tedious and sometimes lengthy event. As a rule, the speed of work depends primarily on the skills and patience of the performer.

Having removed the old tire, the new product should be put on the rim according to the same principle, slowly and with the help of two mounting blades.

Fitting a wheel with a new tire

After equipping the rim with a new tire, the entire structure must be installed in its original place and all bolts must be carefully tightened. When doing tire fitting with your own hands, you should take all the details very seriously, as the safety of further driving depends on it. It is best to start tightening the bolts from above and then move diagonally. This method of fastening will allow you to accurately center the wheel.

Complete the procedure only when the machine is completely on the ground. All bolts must be tightened as tightly as possible.

Thus, we can say that, when figuring out how to do tire fitting with your own hands, you need to strictly follow all the recommendations, and then the result of the work will definitely be positive, and it will be difficult even for the most demanding station employees to determine that the entire procedure was performed by the motorist on their own Maintenance.

A punctured wheel in the presence of a spare tire that has not been repaired in time contributes to the desire to do tire fitting with your own hands. But in order to be able to do this, it is necessary to have the appropriate tools, and most importantly, skills. To do tire fitting on the road with your own hands, you need to have 2 mounting blades, as well as a device for tearing off a stuck tire from a disk (many people use a small piece of steel corner with a sledgehammer for this). But it can be done much more conveniently with the help of a jack and a tow rope.

Wheel repair on the road

The method of repair on the road described above is only suitable for extreme cases. For example, if there is no tire shop nearby. However, if you decide to always do your own tire fitting, then you better have a full-fledged tire fitting kit in the garage, which you can do yourself if you wish. Not only will it help you avoid queues at the tire shop in spring and autumn, it will also save you money.

Making a tire fitting kit

In our case, the kit consists of two devices: the actual tire changer and the bead breaking device, combined into one. The bottom of the machine frame H-shaped 90 × 60 cm is made of a steel pipe of rectangular section. A two-inch round pipe about one and a half meters high is welded to the jumper 30 cm from the edge at a right angle, the welding point is reinforced with scarves in the form of rectangular triangles 5 mm thick. An old hub is put on the pipe for attaching the wheel and welded to it. The installation height of the hub is selected according to the height of the person so that the wheel lying on it is approximately waist-high. The pipe should rise above the cylinder by at least 30 cm and not interfere with work. A little below the hub, weld a bracket for fastening the bead breaker device, which can be made from a fragment of a steel sheet 4–5 mm thick by drilling a hole for the bolt in it.

The device for beating is clearly visible in the photo. The pipe for the manufacture of this assembly should be taken wider so that a long lever is inserted into it.

The lever for removing and installing tires is made of a steel pipe about one and a half meters long, and the tips for it are made of a steel bar with a diameter of 20 mm. The length of the lever may be different, it all depends on the strength of the hands and the size of the free space in the garage. It is better to make the tips of the lever on a lathe, but you can also cut it out with a grinder with a cleaning wheel, and then grind it with a petal. See photos for tip sizes.

Tire dismantling

Tire mounting

  1. Lubricate the tire bead, rim edge, and arm mounting lug with soapy water.
  2. Slide part of the landing board onto the disc.
  3. Insert the mounting lug of the lever between the fitted section of the landing board and the disc. It is necessary that the ball of the tip rests against the disk, and the landing board is approximately in the middle of the tip.
  4. Resting the lever against the pipe above the wheel, pull it towards you. In this case, the tire bead will be put on by the middle of the mounting tip on the disk.
  5. After the first bead of the tire is put on the disc, grease the upper landing bead with soapy water and do the same with it as with the lower one.
  6. When the top bead of the tire is put on the disc, you can inflate the wheel.

The smaller the angle at which the tip for flanging is welded to the lever, the easier it is to put the rubber on the disc. But don't overdo it.

If this angle is too small, then the lever will touch the disk during the beading and scratch it, so look for the optimum.

The machine turned out to be very light, so for comfortable work it must be attached to the floor. If the floor in your garage is wooden, then attach the base to it with self-tapping screws. If the floor is concrete, then make several holes in it, install anchor bolts in them by 8, and fill them with cement mortar.

To make it easier to work, and there was no harm to the disks and rubber, be sure to lubricate the lever tips, the rim, and the tire seat with a thick soapy solution. To do this, do not work with a dirty wheel, always start by cleaning it.

To repair wheels that differ from yours in the number of mounting holes and the distance between them, make adapters with studs. They should be made of metal with a thickness of about a centimeter.

How many troubles for beginners (and not only) motorists are caused by the operation of dismantling and assembling car wheel tires! Bent rims, torn tire beads, camera mounts and even injured fingers are frequent companions of this work. Therefore, many car owners prefer to go to a car service and entrust it to specialists, which has its well-known negative sides.

In addition, as someone subtly noted: tire punctures happen more often, the farther from the car service you are. Taking into account all of the above, I set myself the task of developing a simple and small-sized device that works in tandem with a jack (available in any car kit) and facilitates tire disassembly and beading. Based on the reviews of car enthusiast friends who happened to use this manufactured device, and on the basis of personal experience, I can say that the task was solved quite successfully.

The device consists of three parts (assembly units), which have a very simple design. They can be made by a do-it-yourself car enthusiast with basic locksmith skills. The device and the principle of operation of the device are clear from photographs and drawings. Plank - a steel plate measuring 140x36x4 mm. To it, perpendicular to its plane, three threaded (M8) pins are welded: one in the middle and two at the ends.

The extreme mounting pins are the same - simple threaded rods. The distance between them on the bar corresponds to the diameter of the circle along which the centers of the mounting holes of the car wheel disk are located (for the Zhiguli - 100 mm). The central pin is stepped: at the bottom there is a shoulder-heel, above it is a thickened part, at the top there is a rod-axle with a thread at the end.

The shoulder serves for better stability, the thickened part - for maintaining the rod at the height of the wheel rim, the rod-axle - for fixing one of the ends of the rod on the rod. Fastening the pins on the plate - in any way possible: on threads with lock nuts, riveting in square holes, etc., so long as the pins do not fly out and do not turn.

I have these parts inserted into round holes with a diameter of 8 mm in the plate and welded to it from below. In order to speed up the installation of the device on the wheel for the pins, the corresponding wing nuts are selected (if there are none, then you can get by with the usual ones). The bar is made of a steel bar with a diameter of 16 mm. One of its ends is sharpened according to the profile of the mounting blade and well polished. Nearby, behind the profile surface and in its plane, a hole with a diameter of 9 mm is drilled in the rod.

The other end is bent in a heated state with a hook, and here, not far from the end, the same hole is also drilled, only its axis is perpendicular to the axis of the hole at the other end of the rod. The cable is steel. Its diameter is chosen so that it “doubly” easily passes through the lower hole in the heel support and in the longitudinal groove of the jack stand, into which it is inserted for work. The rope is tied into a ring.

When working, it is better to leave the place of the ligament outside the "broaching" zone - throw it on the support (balloon wrench) or on the jack bracket. The device for dismantling the tire operates as follows. First, a bar is fixed on the wheel disk with the help of extreme pins and wing nuts. Then the straight end of the rod is brought under the tire bead (like a mounting blade), and its bent end is put on the central pin of the bar and secured with a wing nut.

Further, a “balloon” key (head up) is inserted into one of the windows closest to the bar in the wheel disk, and the lower outlet is thrown over it - a loop of the cable ring. Its other release, previously passed under the bar and into the heel hole, is superimposed on the jack bracket. After that, the jack is installed on the bar, and its handle rotates "up", i.e. clockwise.

At the same time, the cable is “selected” and moves the rod with the jack to the place of attachment of the lower loop of the cable (to the head of the balloon wrench), and the straight end of the rod brings the tire bead to the wheel rim. Then the balloon key is moved to another window and the operation continues. When replacing a tire, its second side is displayed in the same way on the same side of the disk.

The force on the jack handle during this work is approximately the same as when lifting a car. To mount the tire on the wheel, the position of the bar changes. Now its bent end is inserted between the rim and the bead of the tire, and the straight end is attached to the central rod of the bar. The wrench, cable and jack positions remain the same as when the tire was removed.

The device is designed for a car jack of the Zhiguli type, but when adjusting some dimensions of parts, it can also be made for other jacks of various car brands. The use of the device is especially effective when mounting and dismounting tires with hard sides.

But the most important thing is that not only the wheels and tires are preserved, but also the hands. The reliability of the device is ensured by the simplicity of its design. The mass of the device (without standard equipment) is a little more than half a kilogram; and fits in a tool bag along with a set of tools.

How to make a tire changer with your own hands?

It is most convenient, faster and more reliable to change tires in a specialized tire shop. But it’s not always possible to go there, and there can be a lot of reasons for that, one of which is the cost of replacement. That is why some motorists try to do everything on their own. Only for this you need certain equipment. How to make a simple tire changer in your garage, we will tell further.

Do you need a wheel beading machine in the garage?

In fact, if you look from the outside, the procedure for replacing tires does not seem to be such a difficult task. You just need to remove the old tire and put a new one on the wheel. But as soon as you set about dismantling, one problem arises - there is simply not enough physical strength.

You can purchase a special travel kit that will make the task easier. It includes a set of various mounts and special wedges. But if the tire has been used for a long time, then it takes a lot of effort to peel it off the edge of the disk.

It is in such cases that dismantling the wheel may require some home-made devices that will be designed specifically for your situation. One of these is a tire changer.

Design features of the tire changer

The device of the tire changer is very simple and similar to the design of the rack jack. It consists of: a frame, a vertical riser and a pipe with a handle.

The frame consists of two parallel tubes from a rectangular profile. They are connected to each other with a steel corner.

The vertical riser is attached to the frame and performs a number of tasks: mounting the lever and a platform for fixing the rim.

The pipe with the handle will work as a lever when removing the tire.

Important! When constructing all the components listed above, you need to stock up on high-quality rolled metal, because when performing tire fitting, the machine will undergo heavy loads.

Advantages of homemade design

A do-it-yourself car wheel breaking machine has many advantages:

Important! With proper use of such a machine, the wheels will not be damaged.

When you decide to build a homemade tire changer with your own hands, we recommend that you look for suitable diagrams and design drawings on the Internet.

  • Take two strong profile pipes, place them parallel to each other at a distance of at least 70 centimeters. So the design will be more stable.
  • Connect them together with a corner or a smaller pipe. Additionally, you can install legs that will be adjustable.
  • Next, weld a pipe with a cross section of 20 or 30 millimeters to the crossbar. Pre-weld the flange at a height of approximately 50 centimeters.
  • Weld the fastener to the vertical part. They will serve as a steel plate. With its help, a lever will be installed, which will be required to remove the tire from the wheel disk. The lever will consist of two parts: a shoulder and a paw.

Now that you already have a DIY tire changer, you can start stripping the wheel. You will also need the long pry bar from the travel kit. You can weld a handle to it.

  • Install the wheel on the flange and secure with a clamp.
  • With the narrow end of the mount, bring the edge of the rubber out of the outer part of the rim. Turn the wheel over and completely remove the tire.
At this stage, it is important to carefully consider the following points:

  7. Ease of manufacture

For the manufacture of such a device for servicing the wheels of your car, we need such materials

  • Channels and corners
  • Bulgarian
  • Welding machine
  • Old unnecessary ordinary metal disk from a car wheel
  • Several bolts and nuts

Getting Started

The machine can be made both mobile and stationary, the difference, in fact, is only in the presence of the wheels themselves.

That's actually all

The process of disassembling a wheel on a homemade tire fitting machine

Since it is rather difficult to explain in words and even more so to imagine, we will use folk wisdom, which says that it is better to see once than hear a hundred times

Disassemble the wheel on the road

If there is a need to disassemble the wheel on the road, then proceed as follows

  • Remove the wheel from the car
  • Let all the air out of him completely.
  • Pass a towing cable or a strong rope through the hole in the disc
  • Place the jack on the tire as close to the rim as possible.
  • Put the cable on the jack, after tying it so that it creates a tight girth ring between the tire and the jack
  • Raise your jack - thereby you will act on the tire, and it will separate from the disk, while it is better to press with your weight on the opposite part of the wheel from the jack

The photo below will clearly show you the whole meaning of this process.

Explosive pumping of a tubeless car wheel

If after that you need to quickly pump up the wheel and at the same time it is tubeless, then even a machine electric pump will not help you here, because air will escape through leaky holes faster than the pump will pump.

How to be in this situation, just take something very strongly combustible, you can usually get gasoline from a tank or from a fuel hose in the engine compartment.

  • We need about 50 grams of gasoline
  • Pour it into the tire, it is possible at the junction of the tire with the disk and throw a match into this place or set it on fire with something on the extension cord - for example, with burning paper, dressed on a stick, since when gasoline is ignited, a sharp pop will occur and the wheel may even bounce, and in order to you didn’t get hurt here and you need a handy extension cord for ignition
  • After popping, your tire will have about 0.5-2 atmospheres, immediately connect your electric, foot or manual pump and inflate the wheel to the desired pressure until it is flat. The video below clearly demonstrates such an explosive process of inflating car tires.
