Glass fragments are a traditional decoration for an interior door. True, if the glass cracks, then instead of a sophisticated style, the room takes on an unkempt look. Therefore, it is desirable to change the fragile element in the door leaf quickly. The task does not require the involvement of a specialist at all.

When is it possible to replace glass with your own hands?

A man without special skills in replacing glass in an interior door will not be scared if he deals with products such as:

  • domestic veneered door of economy class;
  • a door with a glass insert secured with glazing beads;
  • collapsible business class door.

Damaged glass can be easily removed from domestic veneered doors of economy class. The empty opening in the domestic model of the door is measured with a tape measure, and a new glass piece ordered from the workshop is carefully inserted from above. After these manipulations, silicone gel is distributed around the perimeter of the glass, the excess of which is removed with a rag.

Glass is inserted into a domestic veneered door through the top

Unfortunately, even when repairing a domestic veneered model, you can do something stupid. Once my father, a builder by profession, in a hurry forgot to lower the ruler inside the cell where the glass used to be. The result is quite predictable: without taking into account the depth of immersion in the door leaf, the glass turned out to be small. And it was only necessary to add 2 cm to the dimensions of the glass insert.

When the broken glass in the door is held by glazing beads with decorative nails, take a screwdriver or a spatula with a hammer. The last two tools are used as levers: a putty knife is inserted into the gap between the door leaf and the glazing bead, and the hammer is hit on the handle of the blade, forcing the nails to rise from their holes.

Door glazing beads keep the decorative insert in place

After removing the glass particles, the recess for the new decorative element is coated with silicone sealant. The glass is inserted into the prepared opening and fixed again with glazing beads.

Using a trowel and hammer, you risk scratching the door leaf. Trouble can be avoided if a piece of rag is placed under the glazing bead in the area where the nail holds it.

The glass from the doors of such a model is removed after dismantling the glazing beads.

A business class door will need to be disassembled to replace the glass. This means removing all the bolts under the rivets. At first glance, it may seem that everything is simple. However, those who cope with the dismantling of fasteners and old glass will definitely face a difficulty - the troublesome process of assembling a business-class door. There is a high probability that it will turn out skewed.

You will definitely not be able to master the science of replacing glass in an interior door on your own if a trouble happened with the following types of product:

  • a door with a glass insert of a non-standard shape, the dimensions of which are difficult to determine for a non-professional;
  • a door with triplex, sold at an exorbitant price, encouraging to buy a new product, rather than repair an old one;
  • a door with glass, fixed by hidden wedges, which can only be removed from the recesses and opened to secure the new element by the master.

However, my father, who is more of a “break and build” lover than a professional, found a way to easily change oval, zigzag or other irregular glass. He learns the exact dimensions of the glass insert by tracing the contours of the broken element on the cardboard. Having received the template, the father calmly orders the glass in the workshop or carves it himself.

The wrong shape of the glass is not always an obstacle for self-repair of the door.

How to replace glass in an interior door

A good substitute for a cracked glass insert in an interior door can be:

  • organic glass that does not break, but is easily scratched;

    Organic glass is a competitor to a simple glass insert

  • decorative glass, whose advantage is the original style, and the disadvantage is the difficulty in finding a pattern that matches the patterns on the other glass door inserts;

    Decorative glass is used to give the door a "zest"

  • simple glass as a traditional and budget option (they simply order it to the glazier, having learned the dimensions of the old glass insert);

    A door with ordinary glass inserts is in demand, despite its simple appearance

  • double-folded wood-fiber board, covered with decorative film for furniture, but at the same time unable to give the door a special aesthetics and serve for many years;

    In place of the glass, a piece of fiberboard, covered with a film, looks great

  • plywood, which, when glued, will provide the same benefits as fibreboard and is most often used as a temporary option.

Required tools

To replace a damaged old glass with a new one, you need to find the following tools and devices:

Stages and procedure for replacing glass in an interior door

Replacing the glass insert in the interior door is performed step by step:

  1. The door leaf is lifted and removed from its hinges, and then placed on the floor or a large table.

    The door is placed on a flat surface.

  2. Using pliers, a chisel and a hammer, the glass retainers are removed from the door.
  3. All pieces of the decorative insert are removed from the opening, up to the glass chips. In order not to be cut by shrapnel, they work only after they put on tight gloves.
  4. The recess for the glass insert is freed from the gasket and scraped with sandpaper, removing the sealant layer.
  5. The opening where the glass insert was previously located is measured with a tape measure. At the same time, it is taken into account that the parameters of the new product should be 3-4 cm less than the dimensions of the bed, because, in addition to glass, it will be necessary to accommodate a sealant in the opening. The measurement data is provided to the glazier.

    The area of the door with broken glass is measured with a tape measure

  6. As soon as the master hands over the finished glass, the recess under it is coated with silicone sealant. A gasket is put on the edges of the glass insert.
  7. The product is inserted into the opening. Sealant is carefully applied around the perimeter of the bed again.
  8. The glass is fixed in the opening using glazing beads with decorative nails or other elements.

    Decorative nails are used in combination with glazing beads

  9. After 2 hours, which are needed for the sealant to dry, the door is put back in place.

By the way, having noticed that the glass does not enter the opening freely, you cannot press on it, trying at all costs, to squeeze it into the box. The smartest way to fix the problem is to trim the backing material.

Dismantling the interior door before replacing the glass

When glass and wood in the interior door are connected into a single whole without glazing beads or other devices, the glass is changed only after the door leaf has been completely disassembled. This operation is carried out in stages:

Perhaps the newcomer will not be able to replace the glass in the interior door the first time. In this matter, it is important for a man not to lose his composure - and everything will work out. Of course, provided that he does not violate any instructions in the instructions.

There are many different models of door leaves on the market today. Designs complemented by glass inserts are especially popular and in demand. However, there are times when the glass in the door needs to be replaced. This is most often due to poor product quality or careless handling of the sash.

Peculiarities

Nowadays, consumers are completely unlimited in the choice of finishing materials, decor, furniture and door panels for their home. A door matching in style and shade can be purchased for any interior, be it the popular timeless classics or the pretentious baroque.

Nowadays, in many homes you can find beautiful and elegant doors with a glass insert. It can be of various sizes. So, in stores you can find designs in which glass occupies almost the entire door leaf or specimens that have glass inserts made in the form of narrow stripes. Both of these options look attractive and stylish in their respective environments.

Often beautiful, but fragile inserts break in them, even with rather careful handling. This can lead to very unpleasant consequences. For example, one of the household members may be seriously injured by fragments of a glass insert.

Of course, the destruction of glass in the door leaf can occur not only due to low-quality raw materials. In case of careless handling of such structures, fragile inserts in them can also break. So, it is not recommended to slam such doors sharply, as this most often leads to disastrous consequences.

You should be especially careful with canvases with glass inserts if small children and pets live in the house or apartment.

Often, after playing, they sharply slam doors or throw something that can hit directly into the glass. This can lead to a very unpleasant outcome in the form of serious wounds.

Often the glass in the door still breaks or cracks and needs to be replaced. You can do this work quite well on your own. The main thing is to competently and seriously approach this issue and stock up on all the necessary tools and materials.

Types of glass

There are several types of glass that are installed in door leaves.

  • Stained glass. These glasses are the most expensive. Replacing such inserts is more difficult, since without it the interior may seem completely different and faded.
  • The usual. Classic glass surfaces can be supplemented with a special sticker in the form of a decorative film. Ordinary glasses are transparent and frosted.
  • Plexiglass. This material is not afraid of impacts and is more durable. It looks more like plastic, which is also often finished with a decorative film.

How to change?

Before directly replacing a damaged part, you must free the door from it.

First, you need to remove the door from the hinges (for more convenient work) and acquire some accessories.

  • Heavy gloves to protect against cuts.
  • Slotted wide screwdriver. With this tool, you can pry off the wooden platbands that hold the glass in the door. If your canvas is paneled (collapsible), then the screwdriver may not be useful at all.
  • Chisel. This tool is indispensable when working with materials such as wood.

  • Small hammer. The hammer will be needed in the work of securing the glazing beads with small finishing nails. If you are working with a paneled model, then it is better to buy a special rubber mallet to lightly drive in the panels during the assembly of the structure.
  • Stationery knife. You will need such a knife to remove the old sealant at the new glass installation site.
  • Rubberized insert or sealant. Special seals not only provide high-quality shrinkage of the fragile insert, but also prevent the appearance of rattling during the operation of the door leaf. A loose structure can also knock during use.
  • Construction paper bag, cardboard box or piece of thick paper. You will need the paper to carefully and safely wrap and remove the debris left over from the previous glass insert.

The following designs are used to install glazed interior doors.

  • Shield. These are products where glass is attached using special glazing beads by means of an overlay.
  • With grooves for insertion on one of the sides (they are royal). These are models in which glass is installed in the cavity of the door leaf.
  • Paneled. In these models, the glass is inserted into the grooves.

Paneled

In order to repair the paneled canvases, they must be almost completely disassembled into different parts. Many people are intimidated by the large number of details that make up such a door, but do not panic.

The structure may not be disassembled, but only open access to the glass.

To do this, you need to know the design of such a door.

  • Support in vertical position - side pillars of the door;
  • Cross support - holds longitudinal parts and glass;
  • Panels - thin components of the inserts located between the transverse elements;
  • The baguette part is the same transverse support, but it acts as a decorative insert.

Many paneled doors are made according to the tenon and groove principle. They are very easy to disassemble. When faced with these options, you do not have to clean the required areas of old sealant. After removing the damaged insert, a new glass is installed in the same place, and the door is assembled in the reverse order, after which it can be installed in its original place in the apartment.

After removing old and damaged glasses, it is necessary to immediately remove the fragments and any small items left from them. This is necessary in order to protect yourself and other household members from serious injuries.

Tsargovye

To replace the glass in the side door, it is also removed from the hinges and laid on a flat surface. After that, using a ruler and a chisel, you need to remove all the plugs located at the edges of the base. Using a screwdriver, remove all fasteners. Now you need to take a small hammer and a block and use them to separate the drawer over the entire surface of the canvas. This should be done from the bottom up.

After removing the drawer side, it is necessary to remove the old glass from the grooves together with silicone (of course, wearing gloves). At the end, you can safely install a new glass sheet of a suitable size into the grooves, place the drawer side in its original place, assemble the structure and install it on the hinges in the opening.

Shield

As a rule, glass in such traditional canvases is installed on the sash using glazing beads (wood fasteners). For work on replacing the insert, it is better to purchase new parts, since the old ones can be easily damaged during the installation or dismantling of the glass.

First you need to lightly tap the glazing beads with a screwdriver and a small hammer. It is necessary to loosen the insert a little, but do not remove the fasteners. Then you should remove the glazing beads at the top (only if the canvas is removed from the hinges).

After that, the remnants of the old glass are removed. Do not forget about removing the old sealing compound from the door leaf.

A new glass insert in such products is installed in a lumen previously treated with a sealant. If necessary, a glass seal can be used. Glazing beads are installed on top.

You can fix the parts that hold the glass in the shield base with small nails or silicone grease.

How can you glue?

If the glass in the door did not break or crack, but began to stagger, making unpleasant noises, then you can act in different ways.

  • Purchase a specialized "sanitary sealant" and apply it with a thin strip in the gaps between the glass and the wooden sheet;
  • Insert regular matches into the corners of the glass piece. Also, acrylic putty is suitable for this, which must be applied to the edges of the glass;
  • Small pieces of cork can be thoroughly greased with universal glue and inserted into the cracks around the perimeter of the glass insert;
  • Remove the glazing beads, apply sealant to the glass and install them again, but closer to the panel.

These simple works will solve the problem when the glass in the door leaf is loose and dangling. The main thing is to carry out all actions as accurately as possible.

How to hide a small crack?

If the glass in the interior door is cracked, then its repair and restoration of decorative functions can be done in the following way.

  • Glue a special adhesive for glass furniture;
  • Glue the affected part with epoxy glue;
  • Apply moldings to the cracks if they are along the edges of the insert;
  • Decorate with various films that will cover the damage;
  • Hide with stained glass films.

One of the most common options for restoring cracked glass in an interior door with your own hands should be considered in more detail.

  • First you need to stock up on silicone glue, a brush, a syringe and acetone, as well as detergent and clear varnish;
  • Next, you need to carefully prepare the glass insert and wash it thoroughly with a glass cleaner and warm water. You need to wash the inserts on both sides;

  • After they are completely dry, you need to degrease the area where the crack is. To do this, you need to take a cotton swab and moisten it well in acetone. On the degreased surface, the glue will be applied much better, and the service life of the glass restored in this way will be much longer;
  • It is also permissible to handle cracks with cotton swabs. However, when using such a device, you should pay attention to whether it leaves behind fibers on the damaged area of the glass;
  • After careful and careful handling of the damage, it is necessary to start gluing the crack.

  • To do this, you need to draw silicone glue into a syringe (of course, without a needle) and fill the crack with it as accurately as possible. Take your time getting started with such work. It should be done slowly and surely so that the composition is evenly distributed over the damaged area.
  • Today, in building materials stores, you can find tubes of glue equipped with very convenient nozzles with tips that help to squeeze out more impressive portions.

  • If the damage on the glass is large enough, then after applying the glue, it is worth sticking it on both sides with ordinary transparent tape. The work performed should be left for 12 hours until completely dry.
  • At the end of this work, you need to cover the crack surface with a colorless varnish. To do this, take a thin brush, dip it into the composition and draw over the bonding area. After that, you need to wait until the applied varnish is completely dry, and the work will be completed.

Successful examples and options

Doors with glass look organically in many interiors, and it does not matter at all whether stained glass or ordinary inserts are present in them. The main thing is to choose a design of a suitable style and color.

There are several organic and stylish ensembles to consider, which feature elegant doors with glass inserts.

  • The fashionable side door in black with transparent glass inserts will effectively stand out against the background of snow-white walls and a glossy milky floor. Next to such a detail, you can put a small light armchair and a metal floor lamp with a bell shade.
  • The structure of a dense chocolate shade with a thin glass line in the middle can be installed in a white room with an accent wall close in shade to the door leaf. The floor in such an environment should also be trimmed with white materials and furniture in snow-white and coffee tones should be placed in it.
  • A luxurious dark chocolate door with a long black glass insert will look perfect in a white room with a gray floor trimmed with glossy tiles. Support the dark canvas with wall shelves of a similar shade and a wood table that simulates light workmanship.

One careless movement can lead to disastrous consequences. Often the result of such actions is broken glass in the doors. Replacing glass in an interior door is a simple process, however, there are also some nuances here.

Let's take a look at what the process of changing decorative glass in the most widespread types of interior door leaves is.

What to change

Before studying the issues of replacing glass in an interior door, you should first study other equally important information. After all, glass is by no means a panacea, and you can replace it with other materials. Modern technologies make it possible to use a variety of materials instead of glass.

Decorative door glass

This is probably one of the most expensive door leaf inserts. Such glass can be found not in all door models, even from elite manufacturers. This is ideal and doesn't require any modifications.

The only drawback is that you will need to make an effort to find exactly the same glass instead of broken or damaged. The decor on the glass is different, and another option may not be in harmony with the rest of the canvas.

Often broken glass on one door is new glass in all other canvases in the apartment. So replacing glass in a door can be quite expensive - 1 sq. M. such a product for interior paintings costs from $ 20.

Plain glass

This is a decent and affordable alternative when there is simply no money for decorative glass. Some refinement is already required here. It consists in pasting the surface of the stele with various films that imitate a decorative finish.

Glass and film are sold in the markets and in any building supermarkets.

The choice of these materials is very wide. At the same time, the cost of replacement will be at least half cheaper than buying and installing decorative glass.

Polycarbonate

This material is plexiglass. Decorative and ordinary glass have a significant drawback - fragility. The product is quite fragile - one wrong move and the glass in the door needs to be replaced.

Monolithic polycarbonate does not have this drawback. What is plexiglass? It's plastic, but transparent. The disadvantage is that it is highly susceptible to scratches, and when there are too many of them, transparency disappears and the material fades.

Film for glass.

In order for polycarbonate to also perform a decorative function, it is required to paste over it with decorative films. The film will play not only a decorating role, but also a practical one - it will be able to protect plexiglass from scratches inevitable during operation.

The budget option may not be seriously considered, but you can replace the broken glass in the interior door with laminated fiberboard, if you fold the sheets with their backs to each other. There is little good from such a replacement, but it is a very inexpensive way to solve this problem.

Insert glass

Glass doors are inserted using quarters. These materials can be confused with glazing beads. In general, this is the glazing bead, but it is wrong to call them that. However, it’s not about the name of the parts. If the canvas is just that, then the process of replacing glass in the door will be very simple and as fast as possible.

Apply quarters

Using a chisel or flathead screwdriver, cut the quarters slightly. It is necessary that the nails holding the part come out. When the nails are visible, they are pulled out with pliers and pulled out. The beads will then fall off easily. However, one small but very important detail should be taken into account - the order in which the quarters are removed is important. Violation is another broken glass.

Fitting the glazing bead.

The first step is to remove the quarters on the sides of the door. Then the lower one is removed, and then the upper one, but you should be extremely careful with it. If this is a whole quarter, then it must be held until the glass is completely removed.

The next step is to take measurements and go for new glass. Then the glass is inserted into place, the quarters also return to their places.

Non-standard replacement

It is not often that interior doors decorated with glass are made using the quarter technology. There are also such canvases where the door and glass are one-piece construction. There are no glazing beads there.

To replace the glass in an interior door of such a plan, you will need to completely disassemble the entire door for parts.

LED lights.

The first step is to study the ends of the canvas. There may be plugs where manufacturers hide fasteners from view. Self-tapping screws or confirmations are used as fasteners. Then, the canvas is removed from the hinges and located at the long end.

The plugs are removed, and the fasteners are unscrewed. The long side part of the canvas is removed, and then the glass can be taken out.

A new glass for replacement is installed in its proper place, and then the door is assembled back. Some difficulties may arise during the assembly phase.

They are created by seals that are used to prevent the glass from rattling. This problem can be solved by smearing the edges of the glass with soapy water.

A simple glass change can also be done along with other changes.

So, it can be illuminated using an LED strip. You can also do even more - LED glass illumination using a contact switch. The door can only be illuminated when it is closed.

This is how to replace the glass in the interior door - it's very simple, which will give the door a second life.

What you can't do on your own

Not all glasses are replaceable. So, it is almost impossible to replace glass with photo printing, as well as stained glass or triplex. And it's not even about the complexity of the fasteners or something else. These glasses are very fragile, and their cost is very high.

Another nuance is hidden mounts. The glass is fixed by means of special wedges that are inserted into the groove. You don't even have to try to extract these elements with your own hands. Also, don't try to replace the round glass. Sometimes the canvases are decorated with glasses with various intricate shapes or even corrugated products. Such a replacement must be entrusted to specialists.

Replacing glass in an interior door is not considered a particularly difficult task, but it must be done accurately and accurately. A fragile insert requires skills in handling the material and the appropriate tools, so it is better to order cutting from a specialist. Trade construction organizations provide such services directly with the purchase of glass decor.

Glass inserts are most often changed for the following reasons:

  1. The broken glass must be removed, even if it has not fallen out. A sudden movement when closing the web will result in possible injury to people.
  2. The aging of decorative inserts affects their appearance and also often leads to replacement.
  3. Installing glass doors in your living room is an easy way to freshen up your interior. The repair option only includes replacing the glass in the canvas or resizing the frame.
  4. The glass insert can be accidentally stained or scratched. You can replace the glass if it's easier than tidying it up.

Preliminary stage

To repair a damaged glass panel door, preparatory work must be done. Before installing a new insert:

  • remove protruding fragments from the frame (most often they are easy to remove with a little effort);
  • remove the canvas from the hinges and lay it on a flat surface;
  • inspect the door and try to determine how the insert is mounted;
  • if the glass is not broken, then dismantle it.

In old apartments, glass was inserted into the door frame using putty. To repair interior doors and replace broken glass, you need to pry off the glazing bead holding the insert with a knife or screwdriver. After that, pull out the nails with pliers, remove the glass part and clean the opening from the remnants of paint and putty.

To work, you need to prepare tools:

  1. glass cutter;
  2. hammer;
  3. small nails;
  4. silicone sealant.

Glazing beads often need to be replaced. You can buy them in a hardware store, in the lumber department.

Kinds

Doors are glazed using different types of material:

  • transparent - often complemented by pasting with decorative films with drawings imitating a stained-glass window;
  • matte - rarely requires additional finishing;
  • with a pattern, corrugated and stained glass - are decorative types of glass, it is better to entrust cutting them to specialists;
  • tinted or mirrored.

Selection of material

Frosted or corrugated glass is used where a view of the room from the outside is undesirable: in the bathroom, bathroom, bedroom. These types of material are thicker than transparent glass: it reaches 4-6 mm. The home craftsman will not always be able to cope with cutting on his own. Therefore, after dismantling the old glass, it is recommended to remove the dimensions of the opening for the insert and order a replacement in the workshop of a construction company.

For the living room, decorative glass for doors is often selected: with an engraved pattern made using complex technology and surface treatment with a sandblasting unit, stained glass, consisting of colored pieces connected together. If desired, you can use both corrugated and frosted glass if the interior design is not particularly luxurious or is made in a minimalist style.

Transparent and any other can be installed in the kitchen. A budget option is a simple window glass covered with a film, or decorative curtains on a glazed structure.

Options with what can be replaced

If it is not possible to quickly insert decorative glass into the door instead of broken glass, there is an option to replace it with other materials. For temporary insertion you can use:

  1. plywood or fiberboard covered with a film that fits the veneer surface of the canvas;
  2. plexiglass (monolithic polycarbonate);
  3. window glass covered with a film under the stained-glass window.

These materials are not the best decor for the door, therefore, in the future, you will again have to make repairs and insert new glass into the opening.

How to replace glass in an interior door

In economy-class doors, the insert is removed and installed from above, through a special groove. Silicone sealant serves as a sealant: do not forget to clean the frame well from its residues. Before replacing the glass part, you need to find out its dimensions.

Glass in inexpensive models has a rectangular shape, so it is enough to determine the dimensions of the glass opening in width and length. When taking measurements, it is important not to forget about the allowances that are needed to fix the insert in the grooves. Measuring the allowance is simple: slide the ruler into the groove. Add the resulting value to the length and width of the opening.

It is advisable to cut the glass as accurately as possible so that it fits easily into the mounting gaps. Before installing the glass in the interior door, fill the grooves with sealant.

Doors of a more complex design will have to be disassembled to replace the glass. To do this, you need to find bolts on the sides, covered with special decorative plugs. By unscrewing the bolts, you can remove part of the blade and remove the insert. Measurements should be made taking into account the allowances.

When inserting glass into a kitchen door with a panel, the master must find the dowels in the upper and lower parts of the canvas. They need to be removed and 1 side of the frame removed. Pull the glass panel out of the groove, measure and cut out the replacement part. Assemble the structure in reverse order. Place the dowels on glue.

How to insert rectangular glass

Rectangular inserts can be found in the interior or kitchen doors of old apartments, and in expensive products in new buildings. It is not difficult to insert glass into an old-style door:

  • after dismantling the glazing bead and cleaning the grooves, measure the opening taking into account the groove;
  • cut a rectangle to size and insert it into the opening, applying a little sealant there;
  • install the glazing bead in place and secure with nails.

Inexpensive plastic, laminated and veneered products are available with inserts on fasteners with glazing beads. In this case, the repair is carried out as indicated for the old-style doors, removing the strips along the perimeter of the opening on only one side of the door. It is advisable to save the nails with which the glazing beads are attached and use when installing the strips in place. To exclude the rattling of the newly inserted glass, before the procedure, apply silicone sealant in the recess between the canvas and the strips.

Variants of complex doors sometimes include non-removable fasteners: a groove with countersunk wedges. Such a product will have to be taken to the workshop for a branded replacement: it is impossible to do this with your own hands. According to user reviews, repairing a complex structure with hidden fixation is more expensive than buying another door, so it makes sense to ask a sales assistant for details in advance.

Installation of non-standard forms yourself

Manufacturers produce unusual models of doors with complex glass shapes. They are beautiful, but repairing them will not be complete without the help of a specialist. Do-it-yourself glass replacement in the interior door should be started by examining the fastening of the insert: if it is too complicated, then you should immediately call the master at home. But in the presence of removable elements, as a rule, you can replace the insert yourself:

  1. Remove the door from its hinges and place it on a piece of cardboard. Its size must be sufficient to completely close the opening.
  2. Contour the opening as precisely as possible, remember to take into account the installation allowances.
  3. The template must be cut and tried on in the opening. It must fit exactly the size of the frame.
  4. The template for glass with complex shapes must be taken to a cutting workshop.
  5. It remains to put the finished parts into the grooves, coated with sealant, and secure with decorative overlays.

In sliding structures

A sliding door can consist of a large glass sheet and a thin frame around the perimeter, or look like a swing door: with inserts in a wooden or plastic panel. In any case, the canvas must be removed from the awnings and laid on the floor. To remove a heavy object from the grooves of the profile for sliding the sashes, you will need an assistant.

If the door consists of a frame and glass, then you will need to disassemble it completely. Bolts can be found at the edge of the framing structure and removed. The edge of the glass is protected by a silicone seal, which must be removed and preserved if not damaged. If the integrity of the material is violated, it is ordered together with a glass door.

Measure the length and width of the web. It does not shatter into fragments, but only becomes covered with cracks, so it is easy to cope with the task. When ordering glass in a workshop, it is necessary to clarify that a material with a protective film is required (or triplex, as for car windows). After receiving the ordered product, it remains to insert it into the frame, first putting the seal on the edges. When installing, cut the silicone tape so that it is 5 mm less than the glass on each side.

When installing a glass element between MDF panels, the fabric is collected on a horizontal surface. To install glass, overlays are most often used, which are attached to nails. When installing the insert and driving small fasteners into a wooden door, you must be careful not to break the glass: one wrong movement will lead to repeated repairs. Lift the assembled door leaf and place it in the profile runners for the sliding door.

Interior door panels with glass inserts of various shapes and sizes are a popular interior design option today. Sometimes the question may arise about how to replace the glass in the interior door with your own hands if it is damaged. This nuance must be taken seriously and carefully studied the replacement procedure, otherwise the design will not have an attractive and aesthetic appearance.

The design and name of the elements of interior doors

It will not be difficult to insert new glass into the opening if you prepare the necessary tools and materials for the mission and follow the step-by-step instructions.

To do it yourself replacing glass in a door structure, you should stock up on the necessary tools and materials. These include:

This is the minimum set of tools and materials that should be at hand at the time of self-replacement of glass in interior doors.

Types of glass

Today in the construction market there is not a single option for replacing glass in doorways. Before deciding on your own to change the damaged glass in the door structure, you need to study some types of materials and rely on the one that best suits your wishes. You can pay attention to such glass for doors:

In fact, each of the above types of glass is suitable for installation in interior doors. But it is worth familiarizing yourself with the features of each of them and bet on the one that is most suitable in all respects.

Ordinary glass

Among the advantages are the following facts:

  1. The cost of such glass is available to everyone.
  2. Installation does not require additional knowledge and equipment to cut the desired part.

Of the shortcomings, only one can be named, ordinary glass requires additional finishing after installation, which means the purchase of additional materials.

Sliding door design with glass

Such glass is pasted over with a decorative film, which can be ordered or picked up in the store along with the main material.
