Each person has such dishes that remind him of his childhood. For many, such a sweetness can serve as a chocolate potato, which so often attracts with its appetizing appearance on the shelves in pastry shops. But the recipe for chocolate potatoes is very simple and this cake can be easily prepared at home.

How sweet potatoes appeared

Most likely, such a simple cake simply cannot have a special history of occurrence. Yet all over the world this pastry is known as the "Runeberg Pastry".

There is a story that one day the wife of a famous Finnish poet accidentally received guests at her place, and there was nothing in the house for tea. Then the clever housewife mixed all the sweet ingredients available, namely, crushed crackers, flour, cookies, jam, added a little rum to this mixture. From the resulting kind of dough, the woman hastily rolled up koloboks and served this dish for tea. The delight of the guests knew no bounds, and since then the cake began to gain popularity during tea drinking.

An economical recipe for making chocolate potatoes

This cake can rightfully be called economical, because it is prepared from the most common ingredients that are found in every home.

So, to prepare a dish we need:

  • 500 g of any cookies like "For tea", "baked milk", "nut", etc.
  • 100 g walnuts
  • 150-200 ml of milk
  • 3-4 tablespoons sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp cocoa
  • 150 g butter.

Cooking method:

1. Cookies must be refined. This can be done with a meat grinder, blender, or just do it even with a fork or hands. It all depends on the desired consistency of the cake itself.
2. Chop the nuts as well.
3. Heat the milk over a fire in a saucepan and add cocoa to it. Stir very well so that no lumps form. Bring the milk and chocolate mixture to a boil. Add pieces of butter to this, let it melt completely.
4. In the liquid from, cocoa and butter, you now need to add chopped cookies and nuts. Mix everything thoroughly until a thick mass is formed, from which you can now make koloboks.
5. From the mass, form cakes in the shape of a bun, ovals or even in the form of a sausage. Ready-made cakes can be sprinkled with powdered sugar or chopped nuts. That's the whole secret of making a cake so tasty and familiar to many.

Cake options

Sometimes adult guests can be surprised by the almost classic Runeberg pastries, for which 1-2 tablespoons of rum or liqueur should be added to the main ingredients. From this, the taste of the delicacy will acquire an unusual taste and a more persistent aroma.

Classic also implies the use of crushed crackers, not cookies, in the recipe. In this case, you will have to take a little more sugar, because crackers are not as sweet as cookies.

You can safely include a wide variety of dried fruits in the composition of the ingredients, which it is advisable to grind before adding to the cake dough. These can be raisins, dried apricots, prunes, pieces of dried pineapple, cherries, etc.

You can substitute regular milk for a sweet treat. In this case, sugar should be excluded from the recipe, because the cookies will then be very sweet.

For rolling cakes, you can use cocoa, as well as chocolate chips. Well, to make the cake even more chocolatey, you can also include chopped or grated chocolate in the ingredients. If it is possible to add melted chocolate to the "dough" itself, then the taste of the cake will also only benefit from this. In this case, it is only important to choose the right chocolate so that it does not roll into lumps during the melting process and does not release water. It depends solely on the quality of the chocolate. Also, then you can not add sugar to the dough.

You can use cream to serve cake potatoes. Most often, for these purposes, a creamy or butter color is used, which is given different shades, and the cake is decorated like a small cake.

Taste, like happiness, is present in the simplest things. Remember this!

Shape and size according to personal preference.

How to make a brownie potato

Do you like to feast on the taste familiar almost from childhood? Do you know who invented the dessert? These cakes are greetings from distant childhood. They were loved and eaten by every child and adult. They were sold in every store, even despite the food shortages prevailing at the time. In the days of our distant childhood, it never occurred to anyone to cook these wonderful cakes at home, since they were everywhere, but the products for their preparation could not be found. Now the pastry potatoes made from cookies are also sold in pastry shops, but something has changed in it. Perhaps they have become too dressy (which is not surprising in our era of food abundance), perhaps the recipe has changed. Let's make these wonderful cakes at home. And for this we will use a recipe that most accurately conveys the taste of cakes from our childhood.

For cooking we need:

  • 400 g of any cookie;
  • 50 g butter;
  • two tablespoons of cocoa powder (and a little more for sprinkling cakes);
  • condensed milk 150 g.

The cooking time is 30 minutes.

Caloric content - 250 kcal.

1. The base of cakes potatoes consist of cookies, but since during the preparation of cakes, cookies have to be crushed and crumbled, there is no need to buy beautiful and expensive cookies for this purpose. It will be advisable to use the simplest cookie. To begin with, the cookies should be ground into small crumbs. This can be done either by hand (using a mortar or rolling pin), or by grinding it with a meat grinder or food processor.

3. Following the cocoa, add the pre-melted butter, then lightly stir the mixture.

4. Condensed milk should be added to the mixture in several stages so as not to miss the right moment and make our mixture too liquid.

5. After each time you add the condensed milk, mix the "dough" thoroughly so that the condensed milk is evenly distributed throughout the mass. When our dough is completely saturated with condensed milk, we begin to knead it. Knead the dough for about two minutes. This process allows the whole mass of crumbs to be evenly soaked in condensed milk and butter.

6. Roll the finished dough into a ball and let it stand for ten minutes. Then we tear off pieces the size of a small tangerine from the mass and roll them into a ball, and then give an oblong shape (like a potato).

7. Formed cakes, if desired, can be rolled in cocoa powder or powdered sugar, and you can also decorate the cakes with cream. Enjoy your tea!

Another recipe for cakes in 5 minutes:

"Potato" owes its history to Frederika Runeberg, the wife of the 19th century Finnish poet, who one day made cakes from the simplest products - jam, cherry liqueur, sour cream and biscuits. The guests really liked the small lumps decorated with berries, and the fame of "Potato" spread to all corners of the country. Over time, the recipe changed somewhat - the cake was made from biscuit crumbs and a variety of creams.

I love "potatoes", but I do not manage to eat it so often, because it has recently risen in price (And the recipe, it turns out, is so simple! I will definitely try to make it)
