Cocktail history
The first legend, the most romantic, dates back to 1770. In those early days, the owner of a bar located near New York lost his beloved rooster. The owner announced that whoever finds the loss will marry his daughter. After a while, one army officer brought the owner of the bar his cock, which by that time had managed to lose its tail. The owner had no choice but to announce to all visitors of the bar about the upcoming wedding. His daughter, who worked at her father's establishment, began to mix different drinks out of excitement, which immediately began to be called "cock tail" - cock tail.

The second legend says that in the 15th century in France, in the province of Charente, wines and spirits were already mixed, calling the mixture coquetelle (cocktail). From this later the cocktail itself came about.
The third legend tells that the first cocktail appeared in England. And the word "cocktail" itself is borrowed from the lexicon of racing enthusiasts, who called unclean horses, that is, those with mixed blood, the nickname cock tail because of their tails sticking out like roosters.

The cocktail received worldwide recognition in New York when the St. Regis working in the bar Petiot, having decided to experiment, added Tabasco sauce to the drink. At the celebration of the cocktail anniversary, the honorable right to say the first toast in honor of the unique "Bloody Mary" fell to the granddaughter of the legendary bartender, and the creator of this cocktail, Fernand Petiot.

In New York, December 1 was declared "Bloody Mary" day. In honor of the anniversary, the cocktail was offered at the price of 1933 - 99 cents.
“Bloody Mary” owes its birth to Fernando Petiot, a bartender who worked in the Parisian bar “New York” at the beginning of the last century.
Legends of the appearance of the Bloody Mary cocktail:
Legend has it that Fernand came up with the name "Red Snapper" for his cocktail, which means "Red Snapper" (there is such a fish). But one of the regular customers of the bar called the drink “Bloody Mary”, after which this name was strengthened behind the cocktail. Another legend tells, on the contrary, Fernand Petiot himself called the drink “Bloody Mary”, but the administration of the bar “King Call” tried to rename it to “Red Snapper”. Another legend tells that in Chicago there was a bar called "Bucket of Blood" and the charming girl Mary often visited it, and the Bloody Mary cocktail was named after her.

So let's start, according to the results from the promodj.ru portal, the places were distributed as follows:

10. "Tequila Boom"

9. "Bloody Mary"

from the history: The tomato-vodka cocktail owes its birth to Fernando Petiot, a bartender who worked in the Parisian bar "New York" at the beginning of the last century. In the 1920s, this strange, by Parisian standards, drink appeared in Petiot's "repertoire" - a mixture of equal parts of vodka and tomato juice. It must be said that the invention was not appreciated by the French. The finest hour for the Petiot cocktail came already in America, in the New York bar "King Call", where Fernand himself moved in 1934 ... Here, however, more or less exact facts in the history of "Bloody Mary" end, and then the variations begin , in which it is difficult to grasp what the true details of this whole story were.

* The name is associated with the name of the English Queen Mary I Tudor (1553-1558), who received the nickname Bloody Mary for the massacre of Protestants, although the connection between the name of the cocktail and the name of the queen has not been proven. The name probably refers to the cocktail's blood-like color.

8. "Long Island Ice Tee"

  • Compound: Vodka, Gin, White Rum, Silver Tequila, Orange Liqueur (Cointreau), Coca-Cola (80-100ml), lemon (1/2 piece), 6-7 ice cubes. Alcohol 20 ml.
  • Put 2 lemon wedges in a highball, fill the highball with ice cubes to the top. Pour in: vodka 20 ml, gin 20 ml, white rum 20 ml, silver tequila 20 ml and orange liqueur 20 ml. Squeeze a slice of lemon there, top up with cola and stir gently

    *from the history: The cocktail was first invented during the years of Prohibition, as it looks and smells like ice tea (iced tea). However, it is believed that the cocktail was first prepared in the 1970s by Chris Bendixen, a nightclub bartender in Smithtown, Long Island. Long Island Ice Tea is one of the strongest alcoholic long drinks (28- 30% of the volume - alcohol))

7. "Mojito"

Compound: White rum (50 ml), Soda (100 ml), Simple syrup (15 ml), Mint (20 g), Lime (3/8 pcs), Ice (12 cubes) preparation:

Put 10 mint leaves and 3 lime wedges in a highball (regular glass 250ml)
Pour 15 ml of sugar syrup
Crush with a pestle (you can crush anything) and pour crushed ice to the top
Pour 50 ml of white rum and soda water to the top
Stir and garnish with a sprig of mint.

    from the history:

The ancestor of Mojito was the national non-alcoholic mint drink. When rum was added to it, it immediately began to enjoy great success and according to the Cuban archives, back in 1928-1932, it was called Criollo. It then took on its current name.

An interesting story is associated with the current name of the drink. Some people think that the word mojito means “mosquito” in Spanish and compare the effect of the drink to an insect bite. However, the mosquito in Spanish is mosquito. The parallel drawn by others with the "mint" root of this word is also not legitimate, since in all interpretations, mint is either menta, or herba, or mint. Some experts believe that the name of the cocktail comes from the word mojado, which means "wet".
There is a version that "Mojito" comes from the word "Moho". There is a Creole tradition to use the "Moho" sauce, the main component of which is lime, as a seasoning for meat dishes. Perhaps it is precisely because lime and mint are added to the cocktail that it got the name "Mojito", which means "Little Moho".

*** on look at me already wrote about mojito, if you are interested, you can read in large volume

6. "Pina Colada"

* from history: The name of the cocktail translates as “filtered pineapple”. Initially, this name meant fresh pineapple juice, which was served strained (colado). Unstrained was called sin colar. Then rum and sugar were added to the composition. In the middle of the twentieth century, in one of the Puerto Rican bars, the recipe for the cocktail "Piña Colada" was born, which gained immense popularity and became the pride of Puerto Rico. Piña colada is considered the official drink of Puerto Rico.

5. "Screwdriver"

composition: vodka (50 ml), orange juice (150 ml), ice (6 cubes), a slice of orange for decoration.

put all the ingredients and mix in a highball glass, garnish with an orange.

* from history: In many countries "screwdriver" is called the English word "screwdriver" (pronounced skrudriver), which also means "screwdriver". The first written mention of this cocktail is found in the American Time magazine in the October 24, 1949 issue.

The cocktail is so named for its unique properties. Quickly "spins" (gives, one might say)

After deeply inserting the tube into the glass, begin to pull its contents, pouring cream and curaçao liqueur on both sides.

** there are several variants of this drink - 1) when Galliano is replaced by sambuca, for some reason the cocktail has exactly the same name and has a completely different composition: "Gone with the Wind"

2. "Nail"

The search engine for the query "Cocktail Nail" gives the following: "Red nail", which consists of whiskey and drambui (liqueur based on Scotch whiskey and heather honey), and on pdj.ru it is written that the drink "Nail" is made from tequila, Tabasco sauce and sambuca. In a respectable book for bartenders, a drink that contains such ingredients is called "Red Dog", I give a recipe for this cocktail:

compound: Tequila 30ml, Sambuca 30ml, Tabasco sauce - a couple of drops.

It's hard to imagine a bar, restaurant or nightclub that doesn't have cocktails on the menu. Almost no party takes place without these drinks, they are loved by visitors to social events, vacationers at resorts, etc. Such classics as Mojito, Sex on the Beach or Pina Colada are familiar to everyone, especially women prefer them.

List of the most popular bar cocktails

A cocktail is understood as a mixture of several drinks, as well as additional ingredients in the form of spices, syrups, etc. Alcoholic cocktails are mainly prepared with ice, they are made on the basis of pure or slightly carbonated water.

There are many theories of the appearance of cocktails, some consider their homeland to be France, others - England, there are other versions. Such drinks became widespread in the United States in the 20s of the last century, when the "dry law" was declared at the state level. In the same period, the most famous cocktails appeared, which later became classics. Now they are loved all over the world, almost everyone knows the names of cocktails. Among them:

  • Mojito;
  • B 52;
  • Long Island;
  • Sex on the beach;
  • Pina colada;
  • Daiquiri;
  • Cosmopolitan;
  • Tequila Sunrise;
  • Cuba Libre;
  • Bloody Mary;
  • Margarita.

Mojito

This refreshing drink appeared on the Island of Liberty - Cuba. It spread widely in America in 1980. It is an incredible combination of fresh citrus, mint and sugar aromas that neutralize the characteristic alcoholic strength. The drink is light and fresh and is often served in summer beach bars and beach parties.

Of all bar cocktails, it is considered the most common; it is also loved in Russia. The classic recipe includes ingredients such as:

  • white rum;
  • mint leaves;
  • lime (or lemon);
  • soda water or sprite;
  • brown or white sugar;

To make a cocktail, you need to take a tall glass, squeeze lime or lemon juice into it, tear mint leaves, add sugar. The ice should be chipped and added there as well. Then rum is poured into the glass, followed by soda water.

There are many alternative cocktail recipes. If desired, you can add to it:

  • watermelon juice;
  • strawberries;
  • Apple juice;
  • orange slices, etc.

There are also recipes for making a non-alcoholic Mojito cocktail that even children can drink. To create, almost the same ingredients are taken as for the classic version - lime, sugar, ice, mint, soda or sprite.

First, put a few tablespoons of sugar in a glass for a drink, squeeze the juice of one lime, pour torn mint leaves. All ingredients are pounded with a wooden spoon to exude juice and flavor. Then they put ice in a glass and fill it with a sprite or another fizzy drink (for example, Schweppes).

You can decorate the glass with mint leaves and lime or lemon wedges. Drinking a drink, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, is best done through a straw.

Pina colada

Another drink that is among the popular cocktails around the world is Pina Colada. Its homeland is the Caribbean Islands, and the name can literally be translated as "filtered pineapple", since it was previously the name of strained pineapple fresh. Then they began to combine it with sugar and rum. The cocktail was first made in its modern form in a Puerto Rico bar and has become a local pride.

For one serving of the drink, you need to take 60 ml of white rum and pineapple juice and 75 ml of coconut cream. For garnish, you will need whipped cream, chopped pineapple, and a cherries in alcohol.

Juice, rum and coconut cream are mixed in a blender, then ice is added and in this form is poured into a glass. Decorate with whipped cream and add fruit. In some bars, Baileys is additionally added to the cocktail, this option is suitable for those who like stronger drinks.

Sex on the beach

The most popular sugary alcoholic drinks made from different ingredients are loved by girls the most. Such cocktails are moderately strong, but at the same time sweet and soft, have a pleasant taste, and quench thirst. These include the famous Sex on the Beach. Traditionally, it is considered a drink of beach parties, previously it had other names, which also differed in their "beach" origin. Initially it was called "Sand in Your Shorts", then it became known as "Fun on the Beach." The final name was invented in order to emphasize the piquancy of this drink.

The ingredients are:

  • orange juice;
  • cranberry juice;
  • peach liqueur.

The proportions of the drink are as follows: 1 part liquor and 2 parts each other ingredients. They should be poured into a shaker, shaken, then transferred to a tall glass filled with ice. When serving, the liquid is garnished with an orange slice, lime or an alcohol-laden cherry; a cocktail stick is required. There is an option for making a cocktail with pineapple juice.

B 52

This cocktail can be called a classic, unlike other top drinks, men love it more than women. It includes 3 types of liqueur - coffee, cream and fruit. They should be layered on top of each other, but not mixed.

There are several versions of the origin of the drink. According to the most common, it was first cooked in Malibu at the Alice bar and named to the part of the American bomber, according to the other - in the Calgary bar. However, the first version is considered more plausible, since the time of the creation of the Boeing B 52 bomber and the moment of the appearance of the cocktail coincide with each other. Perhaps this explains the demand for the latter among US military pilots in the middle of the last century.

It is not easy to master the art of making a cocktail; not everyone succeeds in making it the first time. The main task is to pour in 3 types of liqueur so that they do not mix with each other when serving, otherwise this cocktail will no longer be called B 52.

All 3 liqueurs are taken in the same proportion: "Kahlua" coffee-based, creamy "Baileys" and orange "Cointreau" or "Marie Brizard".

For preparation you need a glass for cocktails -. The ingredients are poured in one by one. The first is the coffee liqueur, which ensures that the subsequent layers are uniform and not torn. Creamy is poured in second. It should be inserted carefully through the back of the spoon. The last layer is poured in the same way - in the form of an orange drink.

Experienced bartenders often arrange an impromptu show for visitors in bars when preparing B 52. For example, there is an option when, after creation, the cocktail is set on fire and served to the visitor in this form. But you need to drink it immediately through the straw until it melts. The “burning” cocktail does not differ from the classic one in terms of taste, but drinking in this form can be called a kind of extreme entertainment.

It is believed that this drink got its name due to the fact that its correct use causes the effect of a quick take-off and a sharp turn. You need to drink it from the bottom, in the process of drinking the cocktail becomes warmer and at the end - hot. It is not recommended to abuse it. One glass is enough to cheer you up during a party or bar gathering with friends.
