Hiring a construction team of 2-3 people costs about 300 rubles per hour. The cost of building materials at the contractor will be 20-30% higher than at a retail outlet, not to mention wholesale warehouses. In general, it is better to keep silent about the conscientiousness of the performance of work. Why not then make a canopy from a metal profile with your own hands and save money and nerves?
In order for the construction process to be successful and nothing later had to be redone, it is necessary to immediately take into account all the nuances. This applies both to the selection of the right materials, cleaning the territory, and engineering work to calculate the ultimate load. Consider the sequence of actions.
Step 1 You need to choose a construction site.
If you have several options where you can build a future structure, then it is better to give preference to a place with shallow clay to save on concrete. The angle of the slope of the land should also be taken into account so that your building does not end up in a collection point for water from the entire site - this will provide you with many inconveniences, regardless of what you built it for. It is best to choose a hill or a relatively flat area with the possibility of water drainage.
Step 2 We choose the material.
It is immediately necessary to calculate the cost of the future design. If you use a galvanized metal profile for the roof or powder coated, then a solid cost will come out. If you just buy metal and treat it with anti-corrosion protection, you can save up to 30%. The size of the metal square for the racks must be calculated taking into account the rainfall load per 1 m 2 in your territory + the wind effect coefficient (somewhere around 3.4% for a temperate climate zone). With a size of 4x4 meters and a slope of slopes of no more than 45 0, a metal square of 40x40 millimeters is enough. The greater the distance between the supports, the greater should be their thickness.
Step 3 We clear the area for action.
The floor of the canopy will be concreted, so it is necessary to remove a layer of earth about 10 centimeters from its location, cover it with sand halfway, a little crushed stone and leave about 5 centimeters for a concrete screed. This will be enough for a car weighing 1200-1800 kg. If weighty objects are supposed to be in the canopy, it is better to make a screed 9-12 centimeters. In the course of stripping, we remove all roots from the ground, large stones.
Step 4 We build communications.
Before you build a canopy from corrugated board with your own hands, you need to consider its subsequent operation. The first step is to make ebbs in the ground, calculate their location and other details. In some areas, it is necessary to take into account the availability of electricity, water supply, gasification (depending on the purpose for which this structure is being built).
Now that we already have a "master plan" in hand, we can proceed directly to construction. It is better to check everything at once, since any alteration will cost you a lot or take a long time.
The manufacture of the supporting structure is the most important process, since the durability of the structure directly depends on the correct execution of all actions. An incorrectly assembled frame can simply fall under a solid load in winter or be untidy in appearance. To prevent this from happening, everything must be done gradually, taking into account all possible situations during operation.
Step 1 Installation of columns.
First of all, it is necessary to drill holes in the ground with a diameter of 30 centimeters - they will be intended for the subsequent concreting of metal supports. Next, we insert a support into them, only carefully so as not to pour a lot of earth on the sole of the pit - then the concrete can sag. After you pour 50% of the solution into the pit, you need to take a plumb line, measure everything and adjust the rack left / right. Perform exactly the same operation with the three remaining supports, and then align them in height.
Step 2 We make a binding.
It can be done at the very top - this is a traditional construction method, or you can try extraordinary ways to strengthen the structure. For example, weld the strapping crosswise (the top of one support and the bottom of the other are connected), with a mesh, or even make a double one - at the top and bottom.
Step 3 Crate.
If you have a straight shed roof - there is nothing to fool yourself and come up with "cunning" designs. Just install metal beams every 80 centimeters, a profiled metal sheet will be screwed onto them. With a gable roof it is a little more difficult: we make a straight beam and a ridge, under the ridge there should be a perpendicular reinforcement to the straight beam. One boost is enough. The most difficult option is a double arch. Here it will be easier to buy ready-made bent elements, and then make L-shaped reinforcements every 40-50 centimeters between these arched squares. If the canopy is more than 4 meters wide, a direct additional reinforcement must also be installed.
Do-it-yourself canopies made from corrugated board will cost about 7,000 rubles if you buy metal at the average market price. The installation process will take no more than 1 day, and only 1 worker can do it (you need to be able to use a little welding machine and basic skills in working with a grinding tool).
This is the most important process, since the appearance of the entire structure depends on the quality of the assembly. We will mount on a bolted connection - it's much easier. To prevent the roof from leaking, and also to prevent corrosion of the bolts and metal profiled sheet, it is better to use plastic or rubber washers that are worn directly on the hat and can protect the hole from moisture in the winter. Let's take a closer look at the step-by-step instructions for installing the roof.
Private land plots for our citizens are always identified with the hard work of growing their own organic products. However, dachas do not lose popularity, since with the development of the industry in the field of building materials, it has become accessible and easy to ennoble your own dacha and build a corner for relaxation or other pastime on it.
Rolled metal products have become one of the raw materials for the construction of sheds. The welded frame of the canopy is more popular with owners than the wooden one. The process of constructing this object is described below.
So, what are the advantages of a metal frame over a wooden one? Let's take a closer look:
Forms of a metal canopy
We are talking, of course, about the truss system - the rest of the structure is a rack, concreted into the site or installed directly on the ground. So, the features of the forms of the roofs of the canopy:
The following describes how to make a shed canopy yourself, using simple steps for this. You need to decide in advance on the purpose and desired dimensions.
Consider a small mobile welded structure, since the advantage of installation in any suitable place is welcomed by all owners of summer cottages. In addition, inexperienced home craftsmen, based on their own product, will receive the necessary training for further creations. So what will be required:
Professionals use in their work data from the area about the amount of precipitation that falls during the season, soil conditions and other figures. This is a prerequisite for structures exceeding a length of 10 m and a width of more than 5.
The creation of a small structure must also be subject to certain parameters. For example, how to calculate a shed metal canopy yourself:
A do-it-yourself mobile single-sided canopy made of a metal profile is notable for the fact that it does not require special preparation. It is only important to level the ground by removing the turf for this and tamping the ground.
Subsequently, under a canopy, you can make a lawn, a wooden platform or lay out paving slabs. Under the racks, pits should be dug in advance so that the structure does not begin to sag.
The whole structure is assembled "upside down" for convenience. Only the roof is laid on top. So:
Now, the slag is beaten off, the welds are cleaned and the structure is turned over for installation in place. It is important to wrap the ends of the posts with several layers of roofing material in order to reduce the effect of constantly wet soil on the metal.
When the canopy is already stable, they begin to weld the crate. According to the drawing, metal pipes or corners are fixed at a distance of at least 1 m. It is immediately necessary to drill holes in the crate and frame of the entire rafter system to fix the polycarbonate.
It is impossible to cut sheets of plastic in advance - there is a risk of incorrect measurements and, as a result, the coating will have to be redone. It is better to do this on top of the finished frame. The sheets are overlapped without fixing, the attachment points are marked and cut out at the bottom.
Fixing is not complete without the use of thermal washers, as an additional sealing of the metal frame from moisture. Double protection of the structure should also be in case a single-sided wooden canopy is conceived with your own hands - then rubber o-rings are glued to the logs, at the attachment points.
When the material is ready for the final coating, the metal frame should be brought into a decorative form in advance, not forgetting about protection. Surikami - with protective compounds against corrosion, the finished canopy is painted even before the roofing - so, there is a chance not to miss a single centimeter of metal. Next, polycarbonate is laid using a connecting profile, and at the end of the work, protective end caps are installed so that moisture in the form of evaporation does not penetrate into the plastic cells.
How to make a shed canopy with your own hands: calculations, features and stages of work
Canopy structures made of shaped pipes can be found in many places: in the yards of country houses, on the territory of summer cafes, in parking lots and other public places. Their main advantage is that you can do all this with your own hands. To do this, you do not need to have special skills and knowledge, just follow the detailed instructions.
The metal profile today has become one of the most popular and sought-after materials for the manufacture of canopies of various types and types with a polycarbonate coating, since its main advantage is a long service life. If such a building is properly looked after, then it can stand for more than a dozen years. Such canopies can be used in a variety of places:
The scope of canopies from a metal profile is quite extensive, since they are universal structures that have a large number of different modifications.
The most popular today is the arched type of product. It is much more difficult to make it than a single or gable, but it looks very impressive. Such a canopy is built separately from the house or adjacent to its side.
When choosing the type of roof, it is necessary to take into account the fact that the snow does not linger on it, but falls freely to the ground, without creating a large load on the roof.
In addition, there are canopies of a dome, arc, pyramidal shape, as well as single-slope and dual-slope.
In addition to polycarbonate, slate or metal corrugated board can be used for roofing. Therefore, we can say that the complexity of erecting a canopy from a professional pipe directly depends on the choice of frame design and materials chosen for the roofing.
First you need to accurately determine the location of the canopy, as this is very important for choosing the material for the future structure and roofing. It is best to place them on a flat area or hill, as it will be easier to make the necessary drainage there. If you decide to build a structure in a lowland, then the collected water will "force" you to make additional storm sewers, which will entail unforeseen costs.
It is also important to make a preliminary drawing of a canopy from a metal profile. In addition to the location of the racks, it is necessary to take into account the cross section of the profile pipes. If the length of the structure does not exceed 6 m, and the width is 4 m, then for the installation of supports, you can take a pipe with a cross section of 60x60 mm. For the construction of a large structure, a pipe with a cross section of 80x80 mm is taken.
List of required tools
To make a metal canopy, you will need a certain set of tools:
Calculation of the required number of profile pipes
For the construction of a small shed canopy, it is necessary to make accurate calculations and draw up a preliminary drawing:
The sequence of work depends on the type.
Shed canopy
This design is the simplest. For its manufacture you need:
arched structure
The construction of an arched canopy is carried out in almost the same way as a shed, but they are more aesthetic and functional.
It is quite difficult to build an arched canopy on your own, since for this you need to have special manual or electrical equipment so that you can easily bend the metal profile. At home, it is almost impossible to perform such actions.
double awnings
A gable canopy is mounted similarly to a single-sided canopy, however, there are two triangles in the structure, which are mirrored relative to each other. The roof of such a canopy is formed by two inclined planes at a certain angle.
Due to the presence of a ridge knot, this design has a more complex structure system, but it can cover a much larger area of \u200b\u200bthe site.
Multi-slope canopies
Such structures are used to cover large areas such as car parks, exhibition pavilions, etc. At their core, they are a series of sequentially arranged gable structures. Here, in addition to the ridge knot, which is located at the upper points, it will be necessary to create a drainage system.
In the process of carrying out any welding work, safety precautions must be observed. Also, after completion of all work, each weld must be cleaned of slag so that there are no joints. This can be done with an ordinary grinder with a special metal hedgehog nozzle.
To connect metal structures from a profile with a wall thickness of more than 3 mm, it is best to use gas welding, since an electrical analogue may simply not “pull” such an amount of work.
For this, a special pipe bender is used. With it, you can easily bend various types of metal profiles. But if there is no such tool at hand, then a grinder and welding will help to cope with the task.
It is very important when bending various pipes to prevent the appearance of cracks and large kinks, which should not be in the structure of the canopy. Also, they should not be flattened. In the process of working with a manual pipe bender, considerable physical effort must be applied, so it cannot be used to bend a profile with a cross section of more than 40 mm.
After the structure of the canopy frame is fully welded and cleaned of scale, it is necessary to degrease all metal elements before painting them. To do this, you can use a common solvent, acetone or gasoline, which must be allowed to dry. After that, you can start the priming process.
Light gray primer suitable for any type of paint. Dark is used for bright materials. White is usually used when painting a metal profile with pastel colors.
The primer can protect the metal from premature corrosion, and thereby significantly extend its service life, as well as reduce paint consumption.
Do-it-yourself canopy construction from a profile pipe - drawings, instructions with photos and videos
We could also consider gable structures, but the purpose of this particular article is to make an extremely practical, simple and cheap canopy with a metal frame, so we chose a single-slope structure. Make it 2 times faster, since there is no need for bent trusses, joining the roofing material in the center and materials will go 30% less. Consider the entire instruction step by step and start with the preparatory work.
STEP 1: choose a place for a shed canopy. You can build wherever there is space, but it is better to choose a small hill in the yard and a place with shallow clay so that water after rain does not accumulate under a canopy, and you can spend a minimum of money on installing concrete under the supports. Fans of Feng Shui are not welcome here, since the main thing here is practicality.
STEP 2: choice of materials. We have already chosen it. Our supports will be made of a metal square 40x40 mm, we selected it taking into account the load of the structure and the possible wind load of 4%, we also did not forget the precipitation for the harsh climatic zone. The supports are designed for a metal canopy with a slope of 15-20% and dimensions of 4x4 meters. The roof can be made of polycarbonate, but we still preferred metal corrugated board, as it is inexpensive and easy to work with.
STEP 3: clearing the area. We will use a concrete floor for the car, so the area must be planned and about 10 cm of earth removed for adding slag and installing a screed at least 5 cm thick. This is a lot, quite enough for a heavy SUV (within reason, up to 2500 kg). If you want to buy a hummer or a tractor in the future, then your screed depth will be at least 12 centimeters.
STEP 4: calculate communications. Yes, you heard right, there will be more communications around the canopy. What for? It's simple. Firstly, water will not wash it away, it will not flow under a canopy, and secondly, it just looks cool and is inexpensive. These will be ebbs in the ground and drainage systems. In addition, it is necessary to supply electricity to the shed just in case of a fire (suddenly there will be nowhere to fry a barbecue or you need to warm up the car) and make wire conclusions from under the screed or along the supports in the future.
Metal carports can be of different sizes, you can make it just for a car, or you can create a parking lot for 3-4 places (suddenly the mother-in-law will come to visit or former classmates), it is better to think it over in advance, since the expansion will be problematic. At the very least, you need to pour the foundation and supports immediately to the size of the canopy you have chosen and start manufacturing after the calculations. Look like that's it. Now we have prepared the site, morally gathered and accepted for courage - you can go to build.
Making the frame is the hardest part, because installing the roof and decorating is already a breeze and even a child can handle it. But the frame must be carefully done, do not be lazy to use the level and more often check the correctness of the work. If you install the supports or the screed unevenly, then it will be possible to fix it, of course, but it will take a lot of time and effort, because this is almost completely redoing everything. Consider how to concoct a metal canopy with your own hands according to GOST in detailed instructions.
STEP 1: install the supports. There are about dozens of different methods for installing supports, but we will not bother our heads with lower strapping, we just make a 40-50 cm deepening in the ground with a drill or a shovel, put a metal profile in the center and fill it with concrete - the support is ready. Here it is important to install the supports exactly vertically, measure everything with a level so that they are in the same plane. We make a concrete solution 1: 3.
STEP 2: top strapping. But at the top it is necessary to tie the supports, since their height will be 270 centimeters above the ground and 240 cm, respectively, on the other side, where the slope will be (we chose just such a height), they may deviate slightly. Therefore, at the top along the perimeter it is necessary to weld a metal profiled pipe, the length of which will be equal to the length of one side (we took the dimensions of the canopy 4x4 meters as a template).
STEP 3: crate. Since metal sheds with a shed roof do not require bent elements and joints in the middle, making the crate is as easy as shelling pears. It is necessary to weld a metal pipe every 60 centimeters between the sides of the canopy with a height of 270 and 240 cm to form a slope. We will get about 20% slope, even a little less - this is quite enough for the metal frame of the canopy to successfully cope with any amount of precipitation.
Now it remains only to screw the roofing material. The frame will cost only 3,500 rubles, you can still save money by installing jumpers every 80 centimeters, instead of 60 cm as we did, but it’s better to have a margin of safety, you can make the construction easier only if the carport is located in a cozy place in the yard and not exposed to strong winds.
As we said earlier, it is possible to lighten the structure and attach polycarbonate to the roof, but this will not be very rational from the point of view of efficiency. It is best to make a shed metal canopy from corrugated board. In addition, it does not need to be bent, leveled, put tricky washers and it’s not scary to pull a little. Installing it is easier than a steamed turnip, consider the step-by-step instructions:
STEP 1: drill holes. It is necessary to lift the metal sheet and make holes in it at the level of the metal beam that connects the sides of the canopy. This can be done simply: put the sheet on the beam, mark the bottom with a marker where you need to make holes, remove and drill them. Holes every 35 centimeters.
STEP 2: drill out the metal carport. Holes can be made both in advance in the marked places, and when the sheet is already applied to the frame and a jumper is drilled through the hole on the corrugated board. It is necessary to use special screws with sealing caps so that the screwing points do not rust. You can use plastic washers to work, it's convenient and cheap.
STEP 3: treatment with protective materials. It is better to use deep impregnations for metal and varnishes so that our work will stand for many years. When using varnish, metal canopies for summer cottages last at least 2 times longer, since even high acidity of precipitation does not cause corrosive processes.
We looked at how to make a metal canopy without the help of a specialized team, but we also suggest watching a video on how to properly screw the corrugated board to the metal frame in order to avoid mistakes:

An arched canopy in the form of a visor is ideal for the porch of a house. A gable canopy will perfectly hide your car. An arched canopy for a gazebo can be made of multi-colored polycarbonate.
You can build a metal canopy from a profile pipe yourself quickly enough, without much effort, if you have the appropriate materials, drawings and the necessary tools. The simplest structure that can be built on the territory of a country house is a shed canopy. The main thing at the same time is to follow all the rules of installation, to follow exactly the developed scheme of the project.
Metal sheds are reliable, functional outbuildings, durable, practical, but visually light, harmoniously fit into the landscape of the site, do not clutter up the natural landscape. In the article, we will analyze the advantages and disadvantages of metal structures, what is better to build from, we will offer examples of simple projects, we will tell you how to correctly calculate the dimensions of the building, as well as its individual elements.
We will give detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to make a shed canopy from a metal profile with your own hands, for example, the drawings were chosen with average sizes, if necessary, they can be adjusted to individual conditions.
Canopies made of metal, a photo diagram of a standard design is given below, you can make it yourself, even if you are far from construction. The design of the building is simple - these are vertical pillars, a truss truss is attached to them, then a crate is arranged, then a roof.

Metal awnings are widely popular in private individual as well as commercial construction. These are covered parking lots, stops - a shelter for people waiting for public transport, structures above the entrance to the building, according to the regulatory regulations, their presence is mandatory in houses above 2 floors, visors above the gate, galleries leading from the gate to the house, outbuildings - shelters for firewood, other utensils, gazebos - from mini structures to combined buildings, sometimes two-story.
The project of a free-standing metal canopy from a profile
Metal canopies can be divided into three types:
Drawing of a cantilever-beam attached metal canopy to the house
The project of a canopy of metal structures is made based on the functionality of the building, these can be:
Canopy of metal profile and soft tiles for firewood
Tip: For glazing a metal canopy, it is recommended to use sliding aluminum systems, they do not block the view, the sections can be moved to open the building as much as possible. Such glazing is a reliable protection against precipitation, dust, gusts of wind, in a slight frost it will maintain a favorable microclimate inside, which will make rest comfortable at any time of the year.
Large metal structure combined with brickwork
Open metal canopies, due to the low weight of the structure, are often arranged on the roof of a garage, summer kitchen, gazebos. Such a solution is a great opportunity to organize a comfortable recreation area with a gorgeous view, if there is no space for an independent building on the site.
Metal canopies are divided according to the materials of manufacture:
Material | supports, | truss system | Auxiliary elements, crate | Fastening |
The thickness of the walls and the section of the profile depends on the size of the structure
round pipe | 50-100 mm in diameter | Ø25-30 mm, often the truss is made of wood | Ø18-25 mm | Welding |
Profile rolled | Profile rib 50-150 mm | 25*25, 40*30, 25*50, 40*40 mm with a wall of 2 mm for small, medium buildings, 3 mm for large buildings, or a 60*40*2 mm profile is used | 40*20mm | Welding on a metal scarf or bolted connection |
Prefabricated structures made of aluminum profile | Finished products are assembled as a constructor: on washers or end method
Canopies made of stainless steel | Only professionals can make a quality product with their own hands; a special type of welding is required. Canopies made of stainless steel do not require finishing or additional protection.
Forged Products | The most luxurious, sophisticated type of canopies that will decorate the house and the site. There are 2 options for implementing the idea: order a finished building or do it yourself. The first solution is simpler, but comparing the cost, there are less financial costs, if you weld a frame from a metal profile, decorate it with forged parts, serial stamping, which you can buy on the market, will cost less at a price. |
It is more practical, more economical - to build a canopy from a profile pipe with your own hands. Over time, it can be closed with curtains, glazed, overlaid with brick, stone, decorated with forging, wooden grating.
Drawing of a standard cantilever metal canopy over the front door
Analyzing any drawing of a canopy from a profile pipe, the structure can be represented in two parts: a metal frame and a roof. The base is vertical pillars made of a round pipe or a square profile, along the upper heads of which there is a strapping with rolled metal or the lower belt of the truss. This gives rigidity to the metal structure, helps to maintain the geometry even under significant loads.
Pillars are recommended to be placed at a distance of 1.5-2 m from each other. If the building is adjacent to the house, garage, sauna, etc., then it is advisable to place support columns near the main building that will hold the canopy. In the absence of such an opportunity, in order to tie the canopy to the house from the metal profile, with your own hands you should attach a transverse beam to the load-bearing wall, which will serve as a support for the farm. Long anchors are used in the work. The solution will help distribute the load evenly across the entire load-bearing wall.
The main load from precipitation and gusts of wind falls on the truss system of the canopy, so it is important to make the correct calculation of the trusses, to determine the thickness of the profile for its manufacture. Canopies from a metal profile, photo examples below, are arranged under a single, gable or arched roof.

Typical truss arches for metal canopies
In order to correctly calculate a truss from a profile pipe for a canopy, it is necessary to take into account snow and wind loads, the angle of the roof, and the size of the structure. Experts will help you avoid mistakes in rather complex engineering calculations or you should use an online calculator.
For the manufacture of small or medium metal canopies, in private it is better to use ready-made drawings and projects, to make universal trusses that are suitable for all types of structures.
Standard shed trusses
The optimal roof slope is 15-25o, suitable for all types of roofing material: polycarbonate, corrugated board, soft roofing, metal tiles, etc.
In order for a frame for a canopy made of a profile pipe to meet quality standards, a number of conditions must be met:
Scheme with dimensions, according to which you can build a standard carport for a car with your own hands from metal
We will make a canopy from a metal profile with our own hands, we took typical drawings, adapted them to the size of the site, the dimensions of the building are 4 * 3 m, the roof is made of polycarbonate 8 mm thick.
The standard scheme, according to which we will build a canopy from a metal profile with our own hands, a photo of a typical design with an arched roof
We enclose the site with pegs, pull the rope, mark the installation site for the pillars, check the geometry, the diagonals should be equal. We remove the upper soft layer of soil, dig holes for supports, 700 mm deep.
Attention: If the terrain is swampy, uneven terrain or the ground on the site is quicksand, then it is better to equip the pile foundation.
We fill the bottom with crushed stone and sandstone, layers of 100 ml, we ram the pillow. The site can be lined with paving slabs or poured with concrete. For concreting the site, a reinforcing frame is made of corrugated rods, a cell of 100 * 100, 200 * 200 mm, is laid on a pillow so that the reinforcement does not touch the bottom by 50 mm, pebbles or ready-made coasters should be placed. A crate is installed around the perimeter, a 100 mm thick slab is poured with concrete at once, without interruptions. The fittings must be immersed in the solution by 50 mm from all sides.

We pour concrete at the bottom of the pits, a layer of 100 mm, insert pillars from a profile pipe, check the verticals, fill the solution to ground level. If necessary, we set the selections until the concrete has completely solidified in order to maintain the geometry of the frame for the canopy.
After a week, when the solution gains strength, we file the pillars to size. We weld the harness along the upper heads, this will fasten the building and give it rigidity.
The farm is best made on the ground, then raised to the frame. To bend the profile, you can use a special machine or make a rigid template with your own hands, according to which the details of the farm will bend. In large stores, a service is provided for bending a metal profile along standard radii. Farms should be installed every meter, there are 5 of them in our construction. We need 10 curved parts, as well as a 30 * 30 * 2 mm profile for internal stiffeners.
How to bolt a truss to a metal frame
We cut the farm elements to size, cook the main nodes of the truss system. When all the parts are ready, we lift them with a crane onto the frame, then we attach them to the strapping with bolts or by welding onto a steel scarf. Next, we weld the crate from a profile of 40 * 25 * 2 mm, a distance of 750 mm.
After assembly, we clean the frame with a stiff brush, remove scale, remove signs of corrosion, then go through with sandpaper to finally get rid of the lesions, as well as increase the adhesion of the surfaces. Before painting, to degrease the frame, it should be washed with a rag soaked in a solvent, when it has completely evaporated, it can be primed.
Useful advice: A light gray primer is suitable for any color of paint, dark mixtures are relevant for bright colors of paint, for pastel colors it is better to use a white primer.
The primer will protect the canopy from corrosion, significantly reduce paint consumption. If the coloring composition does not have good hiding power, then the primer layer will provide a reliable protective layer and a uniform color. Under hammer compositions, one layer is sufficient; for coating with conventional paints, it is better to apply primer 2 times. Metal canopies are painted with brushes, rollers, spraying from an airbrush is most beneficial, which will significantly speed up the process, reduce paint consumption by one and a half to two times, and provide an even, holistic, reliable, aesthetic coating.
Standard hammer effect paint colors
For metal canopies, it is better to use cellular polycarbonate. Cut with a grinder with a disc for metal. Sand the edges with a fine abrasive to remove burrs. You can fix polycarbonate on thermal washers or using a special profile.
In the first case, holes are made 2 mm larger than the diameter of the fastening leg. A rubber seal is put on the washer, which prevents dust and moisture from getting inside, the part is inserted into the hole until a characteristic click. Point fastening allows the material to maneuver a little, which protects the polycarbonate from deformation, cracking during the operation of the material during cooling or heating.
Thermal washer mount
The profile connection is more hermetic, it is justified when it is necessary to join the panels. The edges sit on thermal washers. Which type of profile to choose depends on the type of roof, so it is selected individually.

Subsequently, the sides of the canopy can be sewn up with blank panels, glazed, hang curtains or plant grapes, climbing roses, climbing plants, when they grow, you get a beautiful, lively gallery.
Be sure to see how to make a canopy with your own hands from metal, the video tells in detail how to join the main components of the structure, cook the farm, and strengthen the frame. The video tells in detail what errors had to be encountered in practice, as well as how to eliminate them.
The design of the canopy, which is simple at first glance, requires preliminary calculations, and before erecting the frame, it is recommended to draw at least elementary drawings. It is worth doing this out of material savings - in order to accurately calculate the need and use expensive materials as completely as possible. In addition, the correct calculation will ensure the reliability of the structure and its ability to withstand gusts of wind.
Any canopy is a structure with a roof and no side walls. Thus, in any canopy, several mandatory elements will be installed:
And if it is easy to calculate the need for materials for racks and for floor runs and is quite capable of doing it yourself, then a design engineer or any other specialist familiar with the basics of drawing can correctly calculate and draw a drawing of a farm. If there are none, or you decide to make your own canopy from “a” to “z”, then a few tips will help you figure this out. We will talk about how to make a canopy from a profile pipe - this is the most commonly used material for canopies. Although the drawings are the same for any material, including wooden structures.
Most often, steel pipes with a square or rectangular section are used for the manufacture of supports. The round section of an ordinary pipe will also work, however, difficulties may arise with it at the junctions of structural elements.
As for the parameters of the pipe, that is, its thickness and wall width, then there is a whole methodology for determining taking into account loads. However, in a small structure, these calculations can be neglected, since with a relatively small vertical load on the canopy roof, even a thin-walled pipe will not be deformed. In general, use either a thin-walled pipe with a wide cross section, or a thick-walled one, but with a small cross section. From the point of view of costs, it is more economical to use thin-walled with a large sectional perimeter.
As a standard, a do-it-yourself canopy from a profile pipe is made from a pipe with a size of 50-100 mm. The pipes can be thinner if the racks are placed more often. If the roof rests on only four pillars, then it is better to make them from a pipe of a larger diameter or section.
Supports are poured with concrete or installed with anchors. In the first case, particularly careful derivation of the vertical level is required. In the second, with the help of anchors, it is still possible to subsequently correct some skew of the support.
Since the canopy is exposed to the wind, you need to very securely fasten the frame of the cross-beams with the uprights. The transverse beams are fixed as rigidly as possible on the uprights; for this, the metal elements should be securely welded or bolted at two points on each of the supports.
It is more reliable to install a pair of crossbars, which are interconnected by cruciform ties.
Next, proceed to the calculation of the truss - a structure that firmly and tightly connects the transverse beams to the supports and the crate, creating a monolithic frame system.
The farm is designed depending on the type of roof of the canopy.
The simplest roof is a pitched roof. More difficult are gable and multi-pitched roofs. The calculation of the arched roof is made in a special way. But whatever the design, it is important to know that with an increase in the height of the farm, its bearing capacity will increase, so in winter the snow will not linger on such a canopy roof.
With strong stiffening ribs, you will increase the strength of the entire structure.
For stiffeners, of which there will be several, you need to choose a strong pipe. Its size is determined by the size of the canopy structure itself:
The distance between the pipes cannot be more than 1.7 m, so this must be taken into account when planning the farm step.
The larger the overlapped side, the more racks and, accordingly, the more expensive the canopy comes out, the more difficult the work will be. It is optimal to make a span of three meters, it will provide sufficient area and at the same time will be minimal in terms of costs.
This canopy is the easiest to make. For its installation, only simple runs from a pipe with a square or rectangular section are required.
The beams should be calculated taking into account the loads on them, the climatic features of the region and the length and pitch of the runs, the weight of the proposed roof. It is better to entrust the calculations to a specialist. For self-calculation, we can recommend small beams of 3-4 meters and a profile for them of 80-100 mm.
The upper and lower belts are connected by a central post, the upper beam is reinforced with a strut. Other types of canopies, including arched ones, should be mounted according to separate calculations. In this case, the frame is built on the basis of the above schemes.
If you do not know this craft at all, then it is better to entrust welding to a specialist. But if you have a welding machine and skill, then you will be able to make, among other things, welding with a tubular section. First, splicing is carried out along the edges. Then continue to the center. Spot baiting, level checking, straightening with a sledgehammer, welding of all elements are the stages of welding. As a rule, the side parts and rafters are assembled alternately and separately, and then they are also placed in turn on the supports - the side ones and then on them and the rafters. With a lift, the frame can be completely assembled directly on the ground and lifted into place already assembled.
The finished frame is placed on supports, this will require help, since one pair of hands is not enough. Next, the same spot welding is carried out, accuracy is checked using a level, and finally, constant welding is carried out. When the frame is assembled, the joints should be cleaned to remove scale, and then the metal frame is treated with an anti-corrosion coating. Often the metal profile already has such a coating. If it is not processed, the processing must be carried out independently.
Important: All metal frame elements should be carefully checked for anti-corrosion treatment. If the surface of the coating was damaged during installation. Needs to be re-processed. Only in this case the canopy will serve for a long time.
A wooden crate is placed on the farms, on which the roofing is installed. The easiest and most reliable way is to lay a simple metal profile flooring. It is reliable, quite durable, and is relatively inexpensive. The use of polycarbonate sheets for the manufacture of canopy roofs is also common today. In addition, no one has canceled slate, and you can also use polymer sheets.
In order for the crate made of wood to last longer, wooden structures should be treated with antiseptic preparations. Polycarbonate roofing is laid directly on the girders of the farm.
A canopy is a simple design, which, nevertheless, is very important for any suburban area, cottage, etc., since it allows you to protect from rain, a summer terrace, a parking lot, etc. One of the most popular is a hinged structure made of metal profile, since this material is inexpensive, durable and practical. Today we will talk about how to make the simplest (single-sided) canopy from a metal profile with your own hands (drawings, photos and video instructions are attached).
From the metal profile it is used mainly in cases where the most reliable protection of any area from precipitation is required. The metal profile is very popular due to a number of undoubted advantages:
During the construction of canopies, special attention is paid to the choice of a certain form of construction, since its practicality and convenience will largely depend on this. So, shed canopies can be considered the simplest form, presented in the form of an inclined plane located at a certain angle.
This design has its own distinctive features, among which one can note the natural drainage system and ensuring maximum protection of the territory.
Advice. The sloping surface does not allow precipitation to accumulate in large quantities, so shed canopies are especially relevant for use in regions with high rainfall.
The manufacture of a canopy from a metal profile is a rather laborious process, therefore it requires careful study of the details and well-executed calculations. About all this further.
So, if you decide to make a shed canopy with your own hands, first of all, pay special attention to several issues:
Advice. If we are talking about building a canopy with our own hands, it is best to give preference to a shed design, since all the rest are quite difficult to manufacture and install, so only those who have professional skills can do it.
Using a tape measure, measure all the main parameters of the site for the installation of the future structure. Given the figures obtained, calculate the amount of materials that will be required to create a canopy.
First of all, you should carefully clean the area under the canopy from various debris, branches, foliage, etc. Then level it. Now you can proceed directly to the preparatory work. Let's start with the foundation (in this case, the supports). Make markings for the supports, keeping a distance of about 1 m between them.
In places where markings were left, make recesses for the supports and carefully compact the soil at the bottom of each hole. After that, fill each hole with a partially drainage layer consisting of a mixture of sand and gravel. Place the supports in the prepared recesses, carefully level them and fill with concrete.
After the concrete dries, it is possible to weld longitudinal beams and girders to the supports, which will be used as supports for metal profile sheets. A welding machine is best suited for this work, but if one is not available, you can replace it with self-tapping screws and a screwdriver (however, it is difficult to call such a design reliable).
The last stage is the laying of metal profile sheets. You should start from the lowest level. Lay the sheet and fix it on the beams with special screws. The next sheet should be laid in the same way, but slightly overlapping the previous one. We move in vertical rows.
Here, in principle, are all the subtleties that should be considered when creating a shed canopy from a metal profile. Good luck!
