16. Note

The name of Iran comes from avest. Airyānam vaeja and other pers. Aryānam Vaeja, which roughly means "Country of the Aryans". In the Achaemenid era (550-327 BC), the concept of "Aryānam Vaeja" was transformed into "Aryānam Xšaθram" - "State of the Aryans". From Old Pers. Aryānam Xšaθram there is the name of Iran under the Arshakids (250 - 224 BC) - Aryānšaθr (Ariyanshahr). The name of the Sassanid state (224-651 AD) - Erānšahr (Erānshahr) comes from avest. Airyānam Xšaθram... The Avestan diphthong "ai" was transformed into pehl. "E" - "Erān".

Persia Iran was called by the ancient Greeks from the central region of Pars - the modern Ostant of Fars.
