Landscaping and planning

French furniture masters who lived in the 18th century gave the world such a piece of furniture as a sideboard. The main purpose of the sideboard was to place exquisite tableware and interior decorations. At that time, ceramic and porcelain dishes were so expensive that they often became the main source of pride for the owners. According to the French fashion of the 18th century, elegant gravy bowls, bowls and cups were exhibited in the most prominent place of the house, emphasizing the high status of their owners. However, it was unsafe to store expensive dishes on the surface of chests of drawers, shelves and tables, and it was unreasonable to hide them behind thick cabinet doors. Therefore, the masters decided to create a piece of furniture that would allow to demonstrate the beauty of porcelain utensils, while at the same time taking care of its safety. This is how a sideboard appeared - a wardrobe with glass front doors, which eventually turned into an indispensable piece of furniture in every home.

Despite its venerable age, the sideboard is still popular with designers. Today we invite our readers to consider the design features of sideboards, as well as ways to place these pieces of furniture in modern interiors.

Sideboard for dishes in the living room

Construction and design of classic sideboards

The design of the sideboard resembles a buffet. But, unlike a sideboard, a sideboard can consist of several sections, each of which is designed to store certain things.

In the classic incarnation, a sideboard is a piece of furniture, conditionally consisting of two elements:

  • top case with glass doors;
  • bottom chest of drawers.

The world's first sideboards were made exclusively from precious woods. The fashion of the 18th century demanded ornateness, sophistication and pretentiousness, so sideboards were often decorated with intricate carvings, golden plating, curved legs and rich fittings. At the same time, the sideboard could be made both in the form of a single structure, and in the form of two independent elements - a massive wide chest of drawers and an elongated high showcase. The chest of drawers, as a rule, was equipped with shelves or drawers in which the hostesses kept kitchen utensils or textile accessories. As for the showcase, its space was divided by shelves into several sectors, thanks to which it was possible to place a lot of table sets and porcelain products in it.

Another difference between a sideboard and a sideboard is the presence of doors. If the upper part of the sideboard can be open, then the sideboard showcase, as a rule, was equipped with doors with glass elements. Depending on the shape and design features, this piece of furniture could have one, two or more doors, which were often complemented by wooden frames, doors and decorative details.

Despite the fact that the sideboard was originally created to store dishes and cutlery, this piece of furniture could be placed not only in the kitchen or dining room, but also in any other room. For example, the interior fashion of France in the 18th century made it possible to place a sideboard in the most prominent place in the living room or hall for receiving guests.

In our open spaces, the sideboard gained popularity in Soviet times. But since at that time people preferred maximum simplicity and conciseness, the design of this piece of furniture was greatly transformed. The facade of the Soviet sideboard was not decorated, but carefully cleaned and polished, because of which the product began to look like a kind of cupboard for dishes.

It may seem that the sideboard is exclusively decorative furniture, which is used in modern decorations only to give an additional style load. However, this is not only a beautiful, but also quite functional item that allows you to organize a convenient storage system for things and utensils.

Sideboard in a modern design

Designers love to use chic classic sideboards to enhance the beauty of certain interior styles. However, due to excessive ornateness, a classic sideboard is unlikely to become a harmonious element of modern designs, so this piece of furniture has been slightly transformed to suit today's requirements and preferences.

Unlike its ancestor, a modern sideboard is made not only from wood, but also from many other materials - acrylic, plastic, stainless steel, glass, etc., which allows you to give it absolutely any decorative orientation.

Design modifications also affected the design of the product. Today's sideboard is not a symbiosis of a cupboard and a wardrobe, but a universal piece of furniture that allows solving many functional tasks. For example, almost every major furniture manufacturer produces corner sideboards for the living room, the design of which provides for the presence of wide and narrow shelves, drawers, drawers and cabinets. Due to the angular shape, such a piece of furniture does not take up extra space, but at the same time it opens up great opportunities for arranging many things - dishes, interior decorations, books, etc.

Corner sideboard for the living room

If it seems to you now that the existing kitchen is not able to accommodate all the necessary amount of dishes (which you have), this is not a reason to urgently purchase new furniture, sometimes it is enough to take a creative look at what is available + purchase a couple of small additional options.

We think you will agree that dishes and products are the most important thing in every kitchen, not counting, of course, the Lady Mistress herself. Products are not our topic, but we will talk in great detail today about dishes, or rather, about how to store them.

Nowadays, comfortable kitchens are no longer something unrealistic: in most large cities, their choice is huge - ready-made or made to order. When deciding to change the furniture in the kitchen, you, of course, first of all pay attention to the facades. But is this the most important thing? Let's think.

The order in the kitchen most of all depends on how rationally and attractively the dishes are placed. After all, it is much more pleasant to maintain it when all items have a precisely defined storage location, organized in the most optimal way.

Before using creative kitchen organization ideas, it is advisable to do 4 important steps, as they are completed, it will become clear: what reserves you have, and what really needs to be purchased. By the way, this is not our invention, but only a creative interpretation of the ideas of Julia Morgenstern, a well-known specialist in organizing space.

For optimal effect, it is advisable to write down your thoughts, as well as conduct real experiments with the rearrangement of dishes.

step #1: revision of storage locations

Do not consider this suggestion banal, but imagine yourself as a Strategist who first assesses the Situation, and only then arranges his Army.

So, most often in the kitchen there are:

  • closed storage systems (cabinets and drawers);
  • open systems (shelves, racks);
  • special systems (as a rule, designed to accommodate a certain type of dishes or kitchen utensils, roof rails, displays, etc.).

step-2: estimate the amount of dishes

divide dishes and other kitchen utensils by function, and then by frequency of use (according to your habits)

step-3: determine the optimal (or possible) storage location

we will not talk about the fact that it is better to put rarely used things higher and further away, you yourself know this. But to remind you that several small compartments are a much smarter solution than one large one, perhaps it's worth it.

step-4: understand what your kitchen needs "like air"

some problems are easily fixed by purchasing special systems, while others may require a complete retooling of the insides of 1-2 of your cabinets.

By the way, if you really take all these steps, then you will look at our gallery of ideas with completely different eyes, accurately determining WHAT EXACTLY will be the best solution to improve the convenience of your own kitchen.

what and how to place in kitchen cabinets and drawers

Try looking for creative alternatives to traditional blow-drying or handy ways to “put everyone in their corners”. The more compartments and special fixtures you have in your cabinets, the more likely it is that the dishes will return to their rightful place.

For example, dishes. Many more modern ways of storing them have already been invented, in addition to drying over a sink.

Or cutlery. The number of modern (and inexpensive) internal drawer liners is striking in variety. But besides them, there are other ways.

BUT pots, pans and pans. Are you sure that where they are now stored is the only possible solution?!

And do not forget that any banal kitchen cabinet can be transformed miraculously if you add sliding drawers to it. metal meshes and carousels, which are sold in many stores and are designed for all standard cabinet sizes (from 15 to 80 cm wide), including corner cabinets.

They allow you to rationally use the space of even very deep cabinets and pantries. At the same time, getting the farthest object is no more difficult than any other.

ideas for outdoor storage of dishes and kitchen utensils

Of course, not everyone likes the idea of open storage. But, perhaps, some solutions will seem interesting to you, because they will not only add order, but also make your kitchen even more beautiful.

Let's start with kitchen utensils, - its open storage can be just convenient or add French country charm to the kitchen.

We already talked about open shelves in a separate issue, and here are a couple more ideas on what can be placed on 2-3 small shelves.

special storage systems

Many manufacturers have already made sure that individual items are placed conveniently, and, moreover, exactly where it is required. You can choose them in style or color, just the way you like it. Moreover, the railing system is the simplest solution. And there are a lot of them: you just need to search a little. Some solutions look extremely functional, while others are also decorative,

A bit of history

The first information about cabinets dates back to the 13th century. Those rare models that visitors to the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris see are more like chests placed on their side and equipped with several shelves. And so it was. We will no longer recognize the name of the person to whom we owe modern storage systems for things, books and utensils.

As well as we will not find those who began to use the cabinet in order to store dishes in it in the 15th century. Outwardly, it resembled a sideboard with shelves without glass, where plates and cups were placed. Such a wardrobe was called a dressoire, and was produced exclusively for noble people. Moreover, by the number of shelves one could judge the title and wealth of the owner.

A special decree of the king was issued, according to which the baron could have a dressoir with two regiments, the count was supposed to have three, the duke was already four. And the wife of the English king Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, was presented with a dressoir with 12 regiments.

Later, in France, a postavets appears, a kind of low cabinet for storing dishes. But it finally acquired a semblance of a modern look in the 17th century with the reduction in the cost of glass production. Now the family's silver and china dinner sets were displayed in the cupboards and cupboards.

Capricious fashion has not bypassed the furniture rows. Cabinets changed their modification, bulky walls receded, giving way to more elegant and lighter furniture. Small white wall in the interior

Passion for antiquity and the desire to take the best from past eras led to the fact that cupboards began to be used in almost all design areas. Today, these are the most diverse buffets and sideboards, chests of drawers and showcases, which are made both in a stylized antique look and using the latest technologies and materials.

Some time ago, such furniture was high-status and expensive in price, they did not buy it, but ordered it at will, taking into account the required dimensions. It was made of expensive woods, decorated with carvings, trimmed with inlay and gilding. The wardrobe could be a single structure with the lower chest of drawers, which contained drawers. With good care, they served for decades, being inherited by children. Cupboards with dishes were placed in living rooms or dining rooms, usually between the windows. Corner models were located in niches and corners.

The first models of cupboards for utensils had mostly decorative functions, as they stored and displayed expensive family sets and valuables. Today, comfort is added to this quality when using kitchen utensils, which have their place and are protected from dust and dirt.

Wall for dishes and books made of solid wood

There are several models that are traditionally used for dishes. They have a long history, retain the features of their predecessors, and at the same time look stylish and are made from new materials.

Buffet

He is the great-great-grandfather of the modern version of the dish cabinet. Of particular popularity are perennial retro models that have a so-called history. The appearance that this piece of furniture had in the 17th century has come down to us almost unchanged. The construction of several levels kept the dishes in accordance with their purpose and appearance.

At the top, behind glass doors, the most valuable sets of glass and crystal were kept. The middle drawers were intended for cutlery, made of metal or silver. The lower array was given under heavy utensils.

Modern sideboard in the interior of the living room

Both parts of the standard sideboard were separated by an open niche intended for the preparation of cutlery and snacks. Often she was supplied with a mirror on the back wall.

Sideboard

The appearance of the sideboard resembles a buffet. But it is usually shorter than its counterpart and may consist of sections, each of which stores various things, such as clothing. The classic sideboard is conditionally divided into two elements: the upper half with glass doors and the lower chest of drawers. The middle open niche is missing here.

Original modern sideboard in the interior of the living room

It differed from the buffet doors. In the sideboard, they were an indispensable element and, as a rule, were made of glass in wooden frames or without them.

Display cabinet

The motto of such a cabinet can be considered the phrase - everything is for show. The showcase differs from its counterparts in that it has glazing on four sides and from top to bottom. The visiting card is an unusual glass. It is hardened and impact resistant. In the lower part, small drawers can additionally be located.

Such cabinets help to increase the space of the living room, and glass creates an atmosphere of fragility and lightness. The showcases were intended to display valuable samples of dishes and other important things that the owners were so proud of. They could also stand in the center of the room, so that guests could see the owner's treasures from all sides. Modern commercial and medical showcases have the same function and appearance.

hanging cabinet

Hanging structures are convenient to use in those living rooms where there is little free space, but you want to add some decorative effect in the form of beautiful dishes. To do this, choose modern wall options with separate lower chests of drawers for things and equipment and wall cabinets with glass doors, where you can put the same tea or coffee set. Proper wall mounting required.

Slide

A slide is a type of sideboard that has not only glass doors, but also transparent side panels. The traditional slide has an uneven facade: high in the center and decreasing on the sides.

Corner cabinets

Such models were one of the varieties of the traditional cabinet with an unusual shape. This option is chosen to save the usable area of \u200b\u200bthe living room. Allows you to put the dishes in a line diagonally, because of which it can be viewed from different points in the room.

Cabinets in the living room in a modern style

A cabinet for dishes with glass in the living room in a modern style cannot but attract attention. Such furniture is chosen carefully and seriously. If the sideboard is not one of the parts of the modular system, then you will have to buy it, adhering to the appearance of the rest of the furniture and the design of the room.

Modern style is not one single direction, but a fusion of several trends that express their vision of people's life and convenience, while emphasizing the individuality of tastes. But common to all interiors is the simplicity of design and freedom of perception.

Modern style is characterized by a variety of materials: metal here can be combined with glass and wood, and some elements are made of stone and plastic. Along with trendy novelties, antique furniture and decor can be found in the rooms. And cupboards with glass doors can be made in different directions.

Loft

The furniture of this style is characterized by the presence of bright colors, and sometimes incompatible materials are chosen: wooden bases with stainless steel and plastic. Cabinets for dishes usually have open shelves, but there are also options with glass. Chrome-plated shelves look good with frosted or bright plain glass.

Art Deco

Bohemian, bourgeois style carries a delicate taste and some theatricality of a luxurious life. The furniture has constructivist forms combined with excellent finishes and expensive materials. Cabinets made of ordinary wood, painted white or deep shades of purple, lilac, black, can have simple glass doors with overhead wrought iron elements. Art Deco furniture is finished with silver, gold and mother-of-pearl details.

High tech

Furniture of this style is distinguished by the simplicity of conventional geometric shapes. Metal and plastic surfaces completely negate decor elements. The lack of decorations is compensated by different textures: the brilliance of glass cabinet doors, glare on steel and polished shelving.

In a high-tech style, the beauty of engineering equipment elements is emphasized, various mechanisms of holders, fasteners, and lighting stand out. And the simple glass doors of sideboards are equipped with push and open systems (pressed and opened). Functional and practical.

Eclecticism

A comfortable style that allows you to combine details and elements from different interiors, emphasizing them favorably and playing with them in an interesting way.

Materials for cabinets with glass

Today you can choose from what material to buy a showcase for dishes. There are the following options:

  • MDF. They are made by dry pressing of small chips under the influence of high pressure and temperature. It is inexpensive and, according to its characteristics, is most popular with buyers;
  • Chipboard. It is made from shavings by hot pressing with the addition of various binder resins. A popular option is lacquered chipboard. Lacquering gives the product a beautiful shine, at the same time protects the surface from mechanical damage. The material is quite strong and heavy, but can swell and delaminate under the influence of moisture;
  • Plastic and forged metal are rare, mainly in decorative finishes. The first is more suitable for furniture made in eclectic and art deco styles, the second is in demand when recreating the provincial spirit of Provence.

Separately, it is worth talking about cabinets that are made of wood. Calm forms, natural smell and unique aura make up the soul of such furniture. Therefore, more modern materials made using the latest technologies will always lose to wooden showcases with glass, which are much more expensive. Another positive side is the individual production of each model. The hands of the master process the wood and give it the desired shape, putting their skill and a piece of soul into any detail.

For cabinets, such types of wood as oak, beech, birch, pine, larch are used. There are models of boxwood and pistachio wood. The choice of a particular variety depends on personal preferences and financial capabilities.

Wooden cabinets with glass fit well into any modern interior, from laconic minimalism to lush baroque. And the functionalism of such items will allow them to be fashionable and relevant for many years.

How to arrange the dishes in the closet

There is an unspoken rule that the dishes in the closet must match the style of the furniture. For example, an elegant service made of fine porcelain will look good in classic wooden cabinets with carvings and gilding. Modern tableware with a bright and stylish design is more suitable for a sideboard with simple and concise forms.

A cupboard with glass doors, in which dining and tea sets are stylishly placed and illuminated, can decorate any living room. It is customary to arrange dishes so that each item is neatly placed, and it can be easily reached without hitting others. Items should not cover adjacent products and blend well with them.

Place the dishes, adhering to the following rules:

  • Heavy items such as tureens, voluminous crystal vases are usually placed at the bottom if all cabinet shelves are made of glass. This is done for security purposes. Closer to the doors and in more accessible places are those dishes that are often used;
  • Fragile items can be placed at eye level. The dishes are also arranged in size: the highest models are built against the wall, and the lower options in the foreground are closer to the doors;
  • If there is one cabinet, and the dishes do not match in style, then they are placed on different shelves. More modern models are located at the top, and the middle and lower shelves are given to old glasses and sets;
  • Multi-colored sets that can be interestingly arranged will add brightness and originality. Stylish metal utensils of fashionable brands, collections in monochrome design, vases of unusual design will beautifully fit into cabinets that have a modern shape;
  • Experienced housewives have many secrets on how to beautifully and originally arrange dishes in a glass cabinet. For example, an LED flashlight is placed in a large crystal candy bowl, followed by small stacks. The rays of light, refracted in the crystal facets, will create original highlights, which look especially beautiful in the dark.

Remember! It is not recommended to place clay dishes in cabinets with glass doors. This is due to the fact that in the absence of fresh air, such objects begin to smell unpleasant.

Choice of cupboard

To create a real home comfort, and not a semblance of a museum storage, you need to choose the right furniture in which the dishes will stand. A wardrobe with glass should not only be functional, but also correspond to the style in which the interior of the room is decorated.

  • To begin with, it is worth deciding on the purpose for which the furniture will be purchased. If you have to store not only sets and glasses, but also cutlery and large items, you can purchase a sideboard with shelves with doors and drawers. With a large number of beautiful dishes, they opt for a showcase with glass shelves. Modern hanging cabinets with LED lighting will also look good;
  • Get a certain model depending on the number of dishes. For one tea service and a set of glasses, a hinged module or cabinet with glass doors will suffice. The surface of the latter can be used as a stand for a TV or musical equipment. For large collections, full-fledged tall cabinets of standard sizes are purchased. There are also narrow versions of sideboards with one door, which will occupy a small area. For small apartments, corner models may also be suitable;
  • In a small living room, a wardrobe with a mirrored back wall and large glass doors will look great. This design will not damage the visual perception of the room, on the contrary, it will add depth and clarity;
  • You also need to decide on the color scheme of the cupboard. Light options are more suitable for a small living room and a room whose windows face the north side, as a result of which there will be little natural light in the room. Bright artificial lighting will have to be added to dark cabinets, otherwise the space will look “compressed” and gloomy;
  • Pay attention to the surface of the glass. It must be smooth, without cracks or chips, and at least 4 mm thick. Modern cabinets can also be equipped with colored glass, which look very advantageous in the interior of the living room. And the lighting above the dishes will attract attention and make the room brighter and more festive;

Remember! If there are small children in the family, for safety reasons, it is worth refusing to choose glass showcases. They can be replaced by a convenient sideboard design, in which there are glass surfaces in the upper half. In addition, pay attention to the strength of all surfaces.

  • In the store, be sure to check the case for damage and chips. During delivery and assembly by the company's employees, you need to make sure that the glass surfaces have been installed correctly and that there are no scratches or cracks on them.

How to fit the wardrobe in the interior of the living room

A place for a cabinet with dishes in the living room is selected based on its area and layout. If it is part of a dining set, then usually such furniture is located along one of the walls. The dining group can be located in the center of the room. But this is an option for a large room.

In a small room or living room combined with a kitchen, a cupboard with dishes is located opposite the entrance or not far from the soft corner, if the room does not provide a table and chairs. Such a sideboard can also delimit functional areas. Then, with its facade, it is placed in the direction of the dining group.

It looks beautiful in the interior of two identical glass cabinets, separated by a low pedestal or fireplace. The cabinet can be used as a TV stand or simply contain decorative items.

Glass cabinet lighting

Modern cabinets with glass for dishes are often produced with backlighting. Such furniture options may have a mirrored back wall and glass shelves. The backlight will help to admire the showcase with crystal and dinner sets even at night when the general light is off. Often used and colored backlight, for example, blue.

Thus, you can not only highlight the desired zones, but also save electricity by optimizing its use. Spotlights are used as lamps. Illumination, depending on the type of lamps, is LED or halogen. Both types have advantages and disadvantages, but are equally suitable for such lighting. It should be noted that fluorescent lamps are not suitable for the cabinet, they begin to fade and fade the colors on the dishes.

Halogen lamps

They are perfectly combined with spotlights, well illuminate the interior of the cabinet and have an acceptable cost. The service life of such lamps is about 4000 hours, they are economical in energy consumption, spending it several times less than conventional incandescent lamps.

The disadvantages of halogen models are their fragility and high heat generation, which can cause yellow circles to appear on the surface of the cabinet shelves. In addition, such lamps subtly feel voltage drops, which often occur in the networks of apartment buildings, and may therefore lose their service life. Install the lamps using special cloth gloves.

LED bulbs

These are the most convenient and practical models in operation. During operation, they do not heat up and do not require the presence of ballasts. The service life is up to 50,000 hours. Energy savings compared to an incandescent lamp is 95%.

Color models are also used to create a festive mood. When buying LED lamps, it is advised to choose well-known brands. Cheap counterparts may not last long, and it often happens that the indicated power does not match the available one.

LED Strip Light

The use of LED strips today is one of the popular ways to illuminate the cabinet. Such material is easily bent, and installation is simple even for a non-specialist, since the inner surface of the tape is covered with an adhesive layer. Connect the installed structure using a power supply.

The illuminated interior of the cupboard creates a fabulous holiday feeling, especially in the evening. The light, refracted in the crystal surfaces of the glasses and reflected from the walls of porcelain sets, is multiplied many times by mirrors and glass partitions, scattering a lot of reflections around the living room. And if you light candles instead of chandeliers and sconces, then their flame, propagated with the help of a glass cabinet and utensils, will resemble the good old days when there was no electricity and the Internet, and mail was delivered from city to city on cradles.

If there is a sideboard with a transparent door in the kitchen or dining room, then it will be the second most important piece of furniture, after the table. Therefore, it will influence both the style and the mood in the room. From a practical point of view, you should decide whether it will contain only festive dishes or everyday plates. Whatever your choice, we will inspire you to create a real masterpiece.

Let's start with items for each day. If beautiful dishes are rarely used in the dining room, then it might be worth putting them in a box and putting them away, and filling the cupboard with what you use daily. Plates, mugs and glasses, which are always at hand, will simplify table setting, and behind the sideboard glass they will look no worse than beautiful models. The lower drawers are useful for storing cutlery and napkins.

To make the everyday look more festive, you can put on the shelves, especially if they are open, vases of flowers or candles. They will enliven the interior and decorate the table.

If the choice fell on dishes for a special occasion, then it will be possible to admire it, and the closed cabinet doors will protect it from dust. If there are more items in the set than can fit in the sideboard, then you should not cram everything into it. Arrange beautifully what you can, and put the rest in boxes.

Something should be put, and something should be put. It is better to place large plates vertically, so that it rests on the wall. If there is a feeling that the plate may fall, then it can be fixed with a stack of others.

For everyday dishes, this rule also works - a large dish can be placed between the sideboard wall and cups or plates.

If you stack similar things in a pile, you can not only save space, but also give the closet a stylish look. Cups, saucers and cake stands look good this way.

In the case when all the plates for cakes are stored in one place, it is worth thinking about other items that are required mainly during the holidays. For example, cake candles can be placed in a cup, drinks can be placed on one of the shelves, and flower vases on the other.

If you hang the most beautiful item from the set, you can not only stylishly update the interior of the room, but also save some space. The main thing is to look at the places on the shelves before driving a nail into the wall in order to determine the correct location.

Glasses should be lined up like soldiers on parade - evenly, clearly and neatly. For each type, you need to select your shelf, and not mix them.

A little contrast will give an interesting look to the whole room. If you are using white plates, consider a black sideboard. Against the background of a dark or bright color, the dishes will stand out favorably.

Even if only the interior of the cabinet is contrasted, the dishes will immediately look completely different.

If after the arrangement there is not much space left, then you can give a pleasant dynamics with the help of other items. For example, a combination of plates and books or an unusual picture will be interesting.

Even in the living room, such an interior item would be appropriate if you give it the desired effect - for example, combine dishes and vases.

You can approach the sideboard from the other side and fill it with books that will look amazing behind the glass door. Moreover, the more books, the better.

When in doubt, always stick to symmetry. So that such an arrangement is not completely boring, you can add some interesting candle or vase to the dishes.

It seems: what is so difficult here? Are there really any rules about how to arrange dishes in a sideboard or wall? Of course, there are no special instructions, but the hostess must still adhere to some rules. What are they?

Style is important not only in clothes

First of all, you need to remember that the dishes should be harmoniously combined both in terms of functionality and the quality of the material. For example, glasses, wine glasses are not placed among tea cups with saucers; crystal is not put on the same shelf even with very beautiful, bright ceramic dishes; elite dishes for the kitchen should not end up in the room in the wall or in the sideboard, even if it is very expensive!

Remember: dishes should be combined in terms of price, material quality and functional purpose.

Everything needs a measure

The most common mistake of housewives is the desire to put all the beautiful dishes on display for guests: a lot of it accumulates over the years! It turns out that it is simply impossible to arrange it successfully: if the dishes on the shelves are close, it is difficult to notice and even more so appreciate the elegance and originality of any items. Therefore, when you think about how to arrange dishes in a sideboard or a furniture slide, adhere to the following rule: it’s better to have less cups, glasses, vases on the shelf, but each item will be in sight.

At the same time, do not rush to extremes: half-empty shelves, unless this is a special design decision, look poor.

Can ceramic tableware decorate a room?

Ceramic dishes can be very interesting in their design, and if you managed to buy original ceramic sets, why not put them on the open shelves of the sideboard or walls.

Just do not put either porcelain or crystal next to it - then your ceramic dishes will not only look good, but also emphasize your creative approach to decorating a room: inexpensive dishes can look very advantageous in a certain interior.

Not by "growth" and not by "color"

When the necessary items are selected, taking into account their compatibility, the shelves are planned for glasses and wine glasses, for tea and dinner sets, the question remains: how to arrange the dishes in the sideboard or in the wall so that it looks beautiful? Just, as we said above, do not try to exhibit items "by height" - it looks very primitive. Try to make beautiful arrangements of glasses and wine glasses, grouping them so that small glasses and glasses are in the foreground or surround the composition of tall glasses.

In no case do not put a glass in a glass or a glass in a glass (even if they are crystal) - no "towers"! The same applies to plates: do not put them in piles - set aside closed shelves for them in the wall or sideboard.

From the dinner service you can put a beautiful tureen, gravy boat, salad bowls, napkin holder; if there is enough space, a dish. It is not necessary to display a complete set of tea and coffee sets. From the first, it will be enough to put a teapot, a sugar bowl, a milk jug and several tea pairs; from the second - the same set: coffee pot, sugar bowl, cups and saucers.

Little trinkets

Some housewives like to put various souvenirs made of glass, porcelain figurines or vases between the dishes. All this, of course, has nothing to do with dishes, but it should be noted that sometimes these little things, if the hostess has good taste, look really harmonious among the dishes.

Even if you find very successful options for arranging dishes in a sideboard or wall, still periodically change the compositions so that they do not bother you or your guests.
